Their's a passing league game at South Hills. Are they playing a real game? and when I say real game are their lineman involve? Are they both wearing pads and ready to hit someone. If not then its just another practice for all the squads present. Everybody knows passing league is totally different from football. In some case its just not real football. Dont get me wrong the athletes show up to play. But playing tag and actually hitting somone are completely different. When you have a 6 foot 4 lineman in front of you trying rampage the QB. I believe its quite different. Bottom line is, football is only football with pads on. Have fun watching two hand touch, let me know if any of these school plays in a real game then maybe it will be worth watching.

Mike Mc is average at best.

There is going to be a passing league tournament at South Hills tomorrow (7/5) at about 4:00. South Hills will be playing St. Bonaventure, Bishop Amat, and Diamond Ranch. I know that we are all waiting to see what happens with Amat vs. South Hills. Come see it!!

I think I've started as much nonsense about McD as anyone on this blog. And for that I apologize to Jody and Mike. It seems that everytime I mention how amazing he is or how much I respect his game the cockroches come out of the wood work.

It is truely amazing how many people have made comments about Mike that they admonish other bloggers NOT to make about kids...."they're just kids!!!"...I hear that alot. Except when it comes to Mike and his mom. It is a cowardly act to come on the blog and just hammer someone for your sick and twisted sense of "righteousness".

In the end Ron Cuccia is still a legend. So is Anthony Munoz. As are many high shcool players over the years..but every once in awhile 1 player stands out...and in this case it just happens to be Mike McDonough. I partied with Ron and if we had been "busted" that night he would have lost "everything" why...cuz we were stupid kids that made terrible choices. Ron was and is an outstanding individual, and I hope he understands my point, kids do stupid things....and then we GROW UP! I came out okay as well...28 years married to the same woman (how many can say that?)with 4 beautiful intelligent polite kids (again I'm a proud Dad so please indulge). God only knows my past and although I'm not proud of everything I've done I do respect the McDonoughs passion and love for each other. And that's why I support them wholeheartedly.

The last few bloggers have mentioned that Covina was surrounded with great players, and this is true but Mike was a transcendent player. For his size he was the ultimate high school player. "Ultimate"? yes and I'll tell you why.

Most high school players get by on the system they're in( some are are out there at the ALL STAR practice) or the status they have (again some were never all that to begin with and are on the field struggling surrounded by maximum talent). You know the kind. They are on EVERY team. "He's DivI", "he's all this or that" and when they finish their HS career it's over. Guess they weren't as good as advertised. Happens all the time. And why? Because deep down we ALL know the truth...they lacked heart, dedication, skill, determination or "just didn't want IT!"

Look around they are on every campus. With Mike no one can say he EVER left anything but his heart and soul on the field. How many "stars" can say that? NOT MANY.

So this is my last Mike Mc Donough commentary. And to all those "Covina has moved on let's give props to the new guys"...here's a secret....they have to earn it. Mike did..2 Time POY. (Match that!) Props to Coach Thomas and all the Covina ballers maybe "this Class" started something that' you'll have to finish. Best of luck.

Mills, you should have no regrets. Let me put it to you like this. When you are successful or trying to do good, there is someone trying to bring you dowm. Dispite the good things MD did on the field some folks just want to talk about how bad he is.(They are the PERFECT ONES)They have way to much time on there hands. Look nobody is perfect. Look at all the knuckle heads in the NFL messing up there careers making dumb choices. They should just let it go and remember the kid for who he is. Einstein did not fail math classes - he taught himself geometry in sixth grade and had outpaced his study partner (a medical student) before leaving junior high. He liked math, but did not play football.

I am beginning to regret putting this video out there. This was not meant to be an opportunity for people to come bash Mike AGAIN! It was merely an attempt to show those of you who have never gotten to see what some of us have, and that is the athlete McD play. This one play sums up Mike as a player in one play. He starts at QB, not an easy position if you're dumb (did you know Einstein failed some Math classes? Oh, and before you slam me for the reference, its just that, a reference, not a comparison). First off, he runs the correct play, second he makes the correct read, sees no one is open and proceeds to scramble (remember Steve Young vs the Vikings! Wow what a play!). Then he JUKES the first defender, proceeds to lower his head and drives through the next defender rendering him unconscience, THEN continues on with the play making a SECOND move and then plows into more defenders, all the while driving his feet and with the help of some determined linemen he scores!! Did you notice this was a 4th and long play from beyond the 34 YARD LINE!!!! What a great play!! I don't care if you don't like the kid, frankly I don't care, but if you're any kind of a football fan, you know this was a great run by a great player! Pure and simple. I for one, will be sure not to miss McD's last hoorah as a high school player!

There are lots of talented kids competing in this heat over at Covina HS.. McD will be remembered for his greatness but he also will be remembered for not winning the big one..when we talk greatness in HS football a championship goes along way. Being close and not getting it done but still being a stud is ok but most remember the Championships. Lets move on and give those Colts of today the recognition they deserve. McD will ride out into the nite Friday and lets start running some HS football blogging here on other great ones. He had his moment and now it is time for class of 2008 to get busy.

My kid goes to Covina and had some classes with McD..it is first hand and his skeletons are no secret....so before you pop off your Tee Pee know that this is first hand or would not write this making it up you whiskey guzzling, casino driven fool!

As I sit here reading the post, I can't help but laugh. Why do yall get off bashing kids. I think I stated this point once before. Mike D is a good player as well as JJ, Art Combest, Tre McNair, Paul Clark, John Joe, Arron Harris and the list goes on. Yes he's moving on and what he does in the future is up to him. The kid has followed his dream so far and has accomplished alot in his HS career. Let him enjoy his time. Why can't we just remember the great games and the fun we had wacthing a good football player. WE ALL HAVE MEMORIES OF GREATNESS. We all have some great HS on the field feats. We all have friends who have done somthing spectatular. Look my boy plays for Covina and I've been to the practices and the team has moved on. They are doing there best to get ready for next season. I have enjoyed covina football for the past 3 years. Win or loose I will be there for the until my kids are done. Lets not forget Mike D did not do it alone. He had a great team. He had some ALL CIF & SGV players helping him. I will not forget the great returns by JJ, the great runs by Art & Tre, the great receptions by Paul Clark, and the hard hits by Ralph Diaz, Frankie Olives and Mike D. Let the kids have there time and we need to move on to the next chapter. All the schools in the area have had some great players and the will continue to have great players. Lets talk about the season to come and have fun doing that.

Just a note, the hit Mike put on the kid from BP was awsome. I was there in person. That night will forever be in my memorie. (As a concerned parent I also called and spoke with BP officals on his condition)

You guys are missing the point. Maybe you didn't hear, there's an All-Star game this Friday. We're closing the book on last year's seniors this week leading up to the game. They have one more shot under the lights to entertain us and represent their schools. Then we'll get more into this coming season. Also ... people don't stop talking about greats of the past ever.

You'll soon learn Mike is a Memory and will become a distant one after this allstar game. The new season has begun and there are lots of good talented and explosive players out there ready to start their Junior and Senior seasons. As this football season approaches we are still talking about McD and last year. Why? Last year is gone and so is Mike, give it up already. I love watching the hit and he is tough as nails as he always was when I first seen him play as a 10 yr. old...If he grew to 6'1 6'2 range this kid is definitley going places....it is unfortunate that he did not. Best of luck to him at the JC level but it is time for Mike to grow up and face the adult world and it is time for the adults to send him there and stop propping him up where is ego is going to get popped once he see the college JC ball...there are players there you know..Lots of Mc.D's there...he will be just one of a bunch.

Who cares about this McD kid and what his HS stats were. One all star game for him and thats it. It is not like he is going to USC or UCLA. He is going to JC. He was a good HS football player thats it....He will not be stepping on the District Field as a player anymore. I grew up in the shadows of West Covina but was in Covina School Dist.I've seen a lot of good players from that school,Tommy Haynes,Troy West , the Wallachs, how about Big Willie Kendrick,the Burns Bros.Nin Burns,I sure as heck can't remember them all.Join Mike McDoungh to that group .That highlight was one of the best hits I've ever seen in all of my football carrer.Being an old Lancer it reminded me of a smaller Eric Bienemy.Not being able to really see these athletes because of Friday Night Lights and only reading about them on Saturday Morning before our morning practice,Ive really enjoyed these little snip-its of football around the valley.Keep up the good work on the eastside Aram....Was up Reg...Go Bruins

Mcd vs. Redlands?

Is this intended to be 1 person against a team or were you refering to Covina vs Redlands?

No doubt, Redlands would man handle the Colts with out a problem. Glendora BEAT the Colts 3 years straight, and after seeing the Glendora vs. Redlands game in the CIF playoffs last season, I have no question Redlands would destroy the Colts. I believe the Colts were a great team last year, but Redlands is really in a different universe. Just watching Redlands doing their pre-game warmup, I knew Glendora was in for a whopping. Redlands was by far the best team Glendora faced ALL SEASON and Glendora had faced many of the top teams in their respective leagues in SGV. Redlands is extremely well coached, great QB, great D and more athlecticism on one team than many leauges combined. Truly loaded...really surprised they didn't go all the way to win the big prize!

come on war chief i been watching high school football for over 20 yrs i seen big hits like that all the time,he was a great high school football player theres no dout about that but i think people are getting carried away with this guy what about his school work, what that don't matter.its like what mr corona said about retiring his jeresy, maybe if he were a great student/athlete but he was'nt so what are you telling other kids its alright to screw up school is long as you do good in sports.

No meed to hide behind a screen name on this one. I heard this kid McD was pretty special and went to see him for myself against San Dimas. He was everything I could have imagined. What a great player. The fact that I found out he went to school with my son and knew him when he was this hyper kid only made it sweeter but never jaded my judgment on how great Mike is.

Last year I wrote that Hile was not a "throwback" LB..(yet) after only his Jr. year and caught alot of flack for that comment and more comments along those lines. But the truth is a "throwback" player is what Mike is. Any question of his greatness is shown in that clip...and he was BETTER as a senior! Another thing that great "throwback players" do is make everyone around him better and united. Look at the clip and see EVERY linemen at the goal...they never gave up on the play because they KNOW Mike won't give up either. How many people caught that? Every single linemen!

The fact that he apologized to the BP coaches only tells me he realizes his greatness as well. Didn't everyone appreciate that last move at the 5..slide stepped 3 yards and then plows, twist and turns to get into the endzone...while never stopping his feet. Question? Why are all the great players so fundamentally sound with outstanding VISION and superior MOTORS?

Don't let any one or any thing slow your roll. I hope Covina retires your jersey so no one wears # 7 again. Maybe some day soon when people start to make a lot of "noise" about the next "great" player...they'll take a moment and compare them to you. See that's the ultimate compliment. If they are not better than Mike Mc Donough ..well then they're just "pretty good" and need work.

I've gotten into trouble when I say so and so lacks this or that....but I've seen and played against great players...some who even went on to play/star in the NFL. I was no where better than average in any year other than my soph year but I always judge ANY talent by the "greats"...Ron Cuccia, Vernon Maxwell, Danny Lozano,Segio Villasenor, Steve Martinez, Eddie Gutierrez, Fred Ford,Fred Manaluena, Samoa Samoa, Kevin and Darren Nelson the Loyolas, Notre Dames, St. John Boscos, Crespis,St Paul teams of the 70's. Sorry I never seen Bishop Amat play until they were beat by Damien a few years back.

Some say I'm too opinionated and see flaws in everyone's game but the truth is every one of those 'great" players had "it" and it showed up early, often and really ALWAYS. I"ve talked to a couple of parents from diffent schools and it's been my experience that most parents "see" their kids playing mortality and appreciate when I tell them how much I like their kids game. But others, and those are usually the parents who only see what they want to see and hear only what they want to hear, never realize it ALWAYS comes to an end. Those are the parents I feel sorry for...they believe the hype and look bewildered when it they see their sons play against great players or at least better players. Sometimes "systems" make "stars" out of average "talent" other times systems slow down "stars"..think Jon Joe at SD...he's incredible at ALL STAR practices (basketball or football)Every player can improve but improving takes honesty. When you see the ALL STAR practices you "see" talent and coaching or the lack thereof.

Best of luck to ALL the ALL STARS and thanks for the memories. Too bad with Travis out with a back injury that someone did not ask Damien's CIF 1st Team Division II and 1st Team All AREA Guard Steven De La Torre to represent DHS instead of only Hile and Mendrun (2). But oh well.

We still talk about that hit from time to time, Mike didnt just hit him, he hit him and went up and over him...

That is one of his better hits but Mike played that way every game...

Hey i heard the translation for hater is about seven different languages is "football fan"...give the kid his due...that is one of the most vicious hits you will see on any level...oh and anonymouse coach higgins was not pissed at McD about the hit....it was a clean hit and McD even went up to the BP coachs after the game and apoligized.

Too all the West Players you better not be caught standing on the tracks when the train(McD)comes running through.

Very true about the classroom.. That's why they called it student/athlete.

ok mike was a great high school player but what does he have to show for it besides some awards and he gets to play in a meaningless all star game,hope he gets his act together in college and does something with all that talent but than again college is a hole new game the guys are biggerand stronger and faster.oh and you need to pass your classes.

It was 2005. Yes, Mike was a Junior. If you look, it was 4th and 11 or 12. Too close to punt, too far for a FG, go for it. It took about 30 or 40 minutes to get the game started again. If I remember right, the kid Mike ran over was taken to the hospital, was checked out ok and even suited up and/or played the next week. He was OUT!!! though. Someone said that just to the right of view of the video there was a Sheriff running on the field even before he scored. Mike is a great athlete, I really hope he focuses on the positives in his future and goes far. I'm looking forward to watching him at Citrus. He's going to be really fun to watch. Good luck Mike as well as all the other athletes that have the privilege of playing in the All-Star Game.

thats when mike was a junior !!.i was standing right there and saw the whole thing unfold .that boy from baldwin pakk never got up, we on the side line really thought that mike broke is back or neck. after about 5 minutes of pure silence,and all the cheering stoped mike was on the side lines ,telling the other players that he hopes he gets up ,he never did they put him on a streacher and off he went to the emergency room!

MY VOTE FOR THE HARDEST HIT!! ASK COACH HIGGINS ABOUT THAT HIT,HE WAS PISSED THAT MIKE DID NOT PUT A MOVE TO AVOID THE TACKEL, WHAT A JOKE ,MIKE IS A STUD AND WILL NOT BACK DOWN OR AVOID ANYPLAYER THAT FACES HIM!!
