Outback is coming to Diamond Ranch ...
Here's what I've got for you today. I've spoken to a few more coaches, but Coach Pasquarella Watch has entered into Day 4. That means still no call back. Hurts! Speaking of getting stiffed, I spoke to Diamond Bar coach John Martin, who offered very little info about the Brahmas and justifiably so. Martin said he won't really know what he's got until the pads go on in August.
Fair enough. He's new and wants to see what the boys can do in pads. But not even receiver Kyle Warren is guaranteed a starting spot, according to Martin, who will not name any starters and said all positions are considered open until he sees what happens in pads. One small issue for Martin, who likes to run a double tight end set, is finding two tight ends to fill those roles. Stay tuned ... I also spoke to Arroyo coach Jim Singiser, who said he wouldn't go so far as to compare this year's team to the 2004 team, which went 12-1. I don't blame Singiser for tempering expectations because his team has been the darlings of summer, impressing many observers in t-shirts and shorts. Singiser did say he was pleased with how things went throughout passing league. One of the people impressed by Arroyo was West Covina coach Mike Maggiore, who also said South El Monte caught his eye. I've heard different things about West Covina, but Maggiore said he's still pleasantly surprised and really likes his both of his lines. Maggiore did say the Bulldogs aren't as fast as last year, but there will be athletes in the right places. Just don't expect the offense to do much more than push opponents around, eat clock and grind for yards. Sounds like a good formula. Maggiore also said the program's overall numbers are excellent. That's good news for WestCo as it remains one of the area's best talent bases. Outback Steakhouse is going to sponsor/cater Diamond Ranch's annual "Black and Blue Game" on August 25. For $5, people will get chicken or ribs and some sides. That's a pretty good deal. Then the question will be how how many D-Ranch fans yack it all back up when they see this nonleague schedule:
8/31 at Edison
9/7 at Chino Hills
9/15 Christian of El Cajon (9-3-1 last year)
9/28 at Ayala
10/4 Oaks Christian

Tartan Fans:
I've been reading the blogs these past few months, so i want to add my .02 cents, but not enough info on the Tartan offense.
Offense looks weaker part of the team but that can be fixed.
Kaluz looks pretty good, He is a "baller".
-Recievers are fast, (well maybe a few... or two)
BJ is a big guy, players call him the future Brandon Bryan... Great Hands, 6'4", he might have a slow speed but i hope "Coach P" will get him more physical
Russ Johnson... great talent, sad that he came in later to the football program, well im glad he left that old school of his
Aaron Stockham... wow this kid is going to be somethin, fast, great hands and great vision, and he's a sophmore!!!
J Gettinger... COWBOY... hmmmm
"Woody"... wow fast kid.. great hands.. could be one of the best if coach put him in more... but really his sport is Soccer and baseball from what i've heard???
-Lineman
Center= Austin Sefton... he's gonna be a little un sure this year. but he did okay... well atleast from what ive seen
Guards= i know coach p has been changing this postion around alot... there loosin there big joe from last year and going down to another big guy...
Ryan Noreiga... big guy, has speed, but a lil softy.
Thomas Lily.. Strong, very fast... but messes up quite a bit.. but he'll learn.
Tackles= two solid, but one a little iffy...
Addison Bachman... tragic story with this one, big guy big big guy, but he is also a little softy, everyone kno's this kid, really entergetic but i kno he;ll get after it...
Jared McGarry... Now this is a big guy but not to tall at all, played very well last year, great blockin and knos how to turn on the boosters, expectin to see good things from him
Tight ends= two main guys and both hard to choose the starter, Action Jackson or Aguierre, wow both with great hands and both with about the same speed, aguirre is a lil bigger and he knows how to play ball, he also blocks very well same with Jackson either way their both great... i hope to see alot of double tight
Full backs= we all kno who the main man is going to be and is it of course VEGA, wow greatest vision out there but a lil sad he is in the shorter body he is in.... 2nd in command the big 40... wow this guy is a man amongst these boys... he's huge, he's really gonna mess players up this year. he really gets after, especially at practice. he runs a few people over
RBs= wow this is where it gets tough... alot of new people to this role...
Brent martney... very quick and is very aggresive, i've heard alot of bad stuff about this kid but he does prove it on the field, he has great hands but his vision isnt to great, not to sure if he'll be able to find those blockers of his, but im sure he'll catch great balls...
Matt tarango... short kid not too big at all, ive seen this kid play, he gets after it, he might be short but he has speed and agility is alright, pretty good vision, i kno he'll bounce out and find that running lane to the promise land...
Andrea Holmes... big kid, and he's only a sophmore, he can do great things but the leading role at RB will be a bit to much for him, i see him splittin time. at passin league he looked a bit goofy, weird running form, looks like he has no balance. but im sure all can be changed

Jeremy,
As soon as you blow one fact, does that ruin all of your credibility?
If so, after looking at CO's schedule, you might want to note the Charter Oak loss to amat, as well as the victories over Los Altos (you should remember the 31-13 drubbing-or did you try to forget?) and West Covina. Just as I said.
Charter Oak Chargers Fall 05-06
Boys Varsity Football
Date Time Opponent Result

9/16/05 v. La Mirada W 24-13

No Joe Amat,
CO lost to LA that year, and suffered a first, and second round exit in the playoffs, the two years that they faced Amat.
Second,
IF there is in fact an investigation into LA, CIF is barking up the WRONG tree.
And I bet if there were CIF was "tipped" off, it was locals who did the tipping. Probably an average or below average program, who has no culture of winning.
Well, that is how it is done OUT OF TOWN talent.
This is why the SGV, gets no respect, because people like you who keep want to keep good talent at schools like San Dimas, or SEM.
What a waste.
ENGAGE AND CONQUER!!
LA.

Junior
Let me help Big Blue and translate his statement for you.
Training ground for D6 & 7 schools=amat 4th & 5th string QB's battling it out as contenders for a local "power" and people are excited and are posting that the school found it's "missing piece"
It would be interesting to see those other "local powers" line up with ND when they are not too keen on lining up against a school that is "resting on it's laurels" like amat.
Schools like Glendora, Damien, and Charter Oak had the nads to play during the 05-06 school year. Another non-playoff year for amat. Those three schools, among the best of the rest in the valley, got swept by a composite score of 96-16. No, that wasn't a typo. NINETY-SIX to SIXTEEN. In a year that CO beat up on Los Altos and West Covina, while Glendora gives Covina their only regular season loss.
When Big Blue says that amat is fine, he is probably referring to the fact that he has seen the ebb and flow through history and the possibility to get back to the top. While the program was on top between '69 and '75 and a few trips to the finals before struggling a bit. They went on to win 11 consecutive Angelus League/Del Rey league championships from '85-96, adding 2 titles and a couple of runner-up spots along the way.
Is amat where they should be? NO! Are they doing what they need to in order to get their? Debateable. Might they take a dump and have a poor season? Possibly. Would that alert administration that they need to pull their heads out of their respective @$$&$? Hopefully! Is it possible to return to the top. Definately!
Who can't see what?
Posted by: Joe Amat | August 1, 2007 12:50 PM
Big Blue
Are you for real? "Amat is fine and has become the training ground for your div.6 and 7 schools..."??
Are all you guys that arrogant? You folks need to come to the realization that you are living in past laurels. Your "strength of schedule" arguments went bye-bye with your 5-5 record and 49 - 0 lesson from ND. What a joke. The funny part about it is you guys can't see it!

Parents view,
A cut and paste is all you got.....Amat is fine and has become the training ground for your div. 6 and 7 schools......some kids come to Amat and fight the fight and stay 4 years with our program acheving greatness, some do some dont.......hey they all cannot be great..Some come and play 2yrs. and leave after they have the great training the staff gives them not to mention going to your public school and having the Amat name on your football resume'....Most come to Amat for our education and some are catholic thru and thru... they have been raised on Catholic school from the onset....this has nothing to do with football because at Amat our Faith in God comes first and our thrive for a better education comes second, with sports being a extracuriccular activity. So go ahead keep bashing, until you can figure out why we send our kids to private school and not public school, then you will have your answer. In the mean time keeping focusing on your kids great football success and keep rooting and getting nothing out of a friday nite football game....for what bragging rights......you must be a raiders fan.....no sense of life and priorities.

This is my first time posting : Many people our talking about the recruitment process that the local high schools are doing in the near future
When Bishop Amat wakes up they will have nothing in there lower levels programs ( Freshman or JV )
football teams example: Youth Programs that High Schools are involved in : Charter Oak Chargers JAA > Charter Oak High School , Covina Vikings JAA> Covina High School , East LA Bobcats JAA >Cantwell High School , West Covina Bruins JAA > South Hills School } Bishop Amat Lancers ARE NOT involved in any youth programs and they should be involved w/ there surrounding cities like La Puente Warriors or West Covina Bruins now this leads me to my next point. When Hell week starts
at Bishop they will lose 10 to 12 kids because they will be transfering out to South Hills,Charter Oak,Covina , Cantwell , Los altos
You would think someone at Bishop would ask themselves why our all these players leaving after they alreay paid for Summer Program $250.00
Registration for 2007 $300.00 1st payment(July) for Tution $520.00 .2nd payment ( Aug.) for Tution 520.00 Sponser form $180.00. The point of the matter is there is MAJOR problem at Bishop and its not Local Coaches Recruiting practices I hope we can all agree with that . I strongly say this if parents and players are happy with Bishop NO Coach could have stole any player out of Bishop I hope we can agree with that statment too . Its late now this I will have a web site in place next week addressing the conduct of players and staff at Bishop . Please sent this to Varsity HC( Verti)JV HC ( Canalles) Frosh HC ( Parker)They all had there chance to keep key players in there program but I can say this they just DONT CARE and they rely only on Bishop name NOT there Hard Work . God Bless everyone in there difficult decision to stay or go to a different school

REEEEGGGGGGGGGGGG,
Dude you and the "big fella" really have to have that streaming radio show. Even if it's just for a half hour but an hour would be nice.
Hell, throw Freddie in to add his "cream puff" side of the valley into the show. I'm sure you can get some local sponsers to pay for the stream with ad time.
Just and hour of analysis and Coaches sound bites that can be accessed threw a link from blog or the Online Tribune.
It would have to be a audio stream because A.T. was meant for radio and not TV if you know what I mean..I know Nisha Guitterez and Aram is no Nisha.
A.T. Dude I just had throw that dig in. (laughing)
You both have the tools, knowledge and access to pull it off.
I'm sure you guys will keep us posted. Execute the game plan, present it to the brass and make it happen!
Late!

SGValley Preps Sports Fans & Community:
Currently there are no plans to bring back "Time Warner's HS Football Game of the Week." There are also no plans of bringing back "A Local Sports Show."
However, because all of my work time is spent covering local news for in the San Gabriel Valley that airs under the title of "TWCable's SoCal News on CNN Headline News," (and trust me, I cover as much sports based news topics allowed) I haven't much if any time at all to produce any of the local games or ALSS as you as local prep sports fans have gotten used to. For that, to Time Warner Cable HS Sports fans, I apologize.
Furthermore, I still (for the love of the game) will plan to cover a game week to week for the internet, in the form of highlights. Watch for it.
AT and I will be co-hosting not only the 2-Minute Drill in traditional fashion on the SGVTribune website (Preps page, of course), but also we have been collaborating on launching a Prep Sports Internet Radio Show that hopefully will be available right here in AT's Blog.
Thanks for all the kind words and if you'd like to push further for the return of local sports coverage please contact Jim Patrick at 626 914-1728 x200 to voice your requests.
Talk to you all soon and have a great weekend.

Jeeeeeeez I'm sick and tired of hearing about Amat and how so many kids jumped ship. Lets face it Amat has lost its luster. I'm sure you all remember when the Raiders,Steelers and Cowboys were considered Dinasties. Thank god the new season starts in a few weeks so all you arm chair coaches and QB's will have you your thoughts and doubts put to rest. The season will play it self out and whom ever is there in December to take the title, well god bless them.
As for some of you guys on here your dribble is getting tired. Plaid Lad Dont you work? I thought this was Arams blog. What ever happened to Mean Green Machine at least he had something intelligent to say. I'd like to see all the schools in the valley do well. But, we all know some gotta win and some gotta loose
Posted by: FB fan | July 27, 2007 1:20 PM
Five more weaks until we play covina and we cant wait, GHS is for real this year so be prepered colts. After hearing and reading about how good we are this year from the players and plaid-lad the score should be lop sided and covina will be luckie to even score, maybe mid 40s or 50s to nothing is our prediction. No asterick like last year when they didnt have theyre qb, we will win easily and hopefully use our second string juniors to seal the victorie by half time.

Concern Parent,
To me it looks like your gripe is with cost of sending your child to AMAT. Yes it a huge financial commitment but you chose it knowing full well what was expected.Keep in mind your child will be getting a top notch education along with playing sports and after all shouldn't the education be at the top of the list instead of the athletics. If you feel it is to much to pay then seek happiness in a public school which according to you and alot of others offer superior athletic programs.
P.S
You left out the cost of books and the building fund .

Response to Concerned parent posted on daily Dose thread:
To the concerned parent,
Get your head out would you. Heck the school does not care who comes there to play football anymore and they like it this way. It was done so purposely. To get away from the reputation of being a football school they can now concentrate on a being a school that have it's acedemics as it's number one priority. Why do you think they hired such a lousy and inexperience coaching staff for their football team. It will not be long before you see them dismantle the Girls Basketball team. They already dismantled the Boys Basketball team. They have Mr. Olivas run around the school hassling the football players to force them to leave. Monsignor Carroll could care less he is going to retire soon and make out on a pension so fat it would make your teeth rattle. This schools sports programs some claim are rebuilding, but what they are doing is slowly tearing down the sports programs to have more classroom awareness and less sports awareness.....In all fairness to Amat that is the way it should be education first and sports second but some parents have it the other way around nowadays. Thinking scholorship or Bragging rights on Friday nites,, that their kid plays on a winner. this goes to the parents with less talented kids as well ..they are on a team warming the bench and looking good in a uniform but the players that do play and are bringing in the wins are giving these parents bragging rights but what does their kid do for the team?....it has all gone egotistical for parents and football.......Amat could care less and at this point they still rake in all that money from kids that go there for education and they rake in the money from the parents that want to see their kid wear that Golden A on his helmet while he warms the bench.....the tradition of Amat football is over and is not recovering any time soon if not at all.........this from a alumni that lives accross the street from the school. God Bless you All.

No one knows how their football season is going to go and most just prop their kids school or their school on pure speculation. Do you know how many star kids go down to injury in game one or game two of a season leaving a their team searching for answers and a lost season. no one knows how any of these schools will come out.
Glendora could pitch a shutout every game and that defense could be as advertised.
West Covina could over take So. Hills
South Hills could lay an egg and not be as good as everyone is making them
South Hills could win a Championship
CO could return to the Championship
Rowland could be the Rowland of last year
Walnut wins a game
Bassett makes the playoffs
Los Altos wins the coin toss again
Damien wins the SL
Covina goes 2-8
Covina goes 9-1
Amat finally makes the playoffs.
Amat loses on a coin toss and misses playoffs again.
CHHS wins a Championship.
No one knows how teams will end up. Good luck to all this season and hopefully all of our SGV teams will be playing in November.

Plaid Lad,
In all fairness to that post and as a Amat parent, I can that Coach Verti and staff are not very receptive or approachable people. I've personally seen Coach Verti blow off several parents. The administration is even worse. I know Wells and his family were completely disrespected by them, with no proof of any wrongdoing on his part. Maybe that is part of the problem and why this individual felt this was one of the only options left.

Response 2: Concerned parent
The Amat debacle seems to unnerve some more then others. My only concern about your post is why you would attempt to sucker-punch the coaches, remaining players, and the school at-large, before hurdling the back fence and running for day-light. If your mind and heart are so heavy over your concerns why not face them by approaching the named coaches and discuss the real issues at hand. Obviously at one point in your parenting you considered your choice of Amat to be the best for your child. If so, you owe it to your young student/athlete and the school to settle matters the same way you accepted them when certain choices were made. Be responsible.

Bishop does seem to have a problem and we all can agree to that. But it sounds like people have a problem with the overall behavior of coaches and players at the school from what I read here. If this is true, Im sure players will continue to leave in large numbers. If there is a problem, they first must admit it and then work to fix it. Denying it or lashing out at others does not correct it or make it go away.

Posted by: C.I.A. | July 27, 2007 9:51 AM
CO Bro,
Yea, this I know. But, you also realize your D gave up 14 points to Glendora while, Glendora D only gave up 7 to you. Charter Oak and El Do are in a smaller division than Glendora. The fact you went to the finals is awesome, really, I was at the game supporting you all the way. But to say you were in the finals and Glendora was not, does not provide a measurable "Team to Team" comparison.
No doubt, as I said earlier, both teams are coming back strong. I gave the defensive edge to Glendora, because, well, we have Horn, C. Young, Kovar, Niles, Beckwith, Nichols, Edwards, etc.. guys who will most likely be the 07/08 All Leagures and Allstars. I know I will catch some hate on that one, but come on, give me some better names. There is alot of talent spread throughout the valley, including CO, but these guys are as good as the best of them.
CO will be a great contender. Like Glendora, they have a tremendous defense returning. Unlike Glendora, CO has a very experienced offense.
I predicted a tough close one. D edge to Glendora, O edge to Charter Oak. The game will have to be played out to see the victor on this one.
FANatic has left the Blog!

OK Concerned Parent, perhaps you'd like to tell us where you are getting your information from. It's easy to post and not back it up so start talking. Maybe YOU are one of the parents who are pulling their kid out of the school because you son won't be getting the playing time you think they so richly deserve. This website you say you are building, is it just to try and take the program apart out of your spite?
We all know what the cost is to send our kids to the school you idiot and we do so of our own free will so you can knock off the part about posting costs.
So I suggest you put up or shut up, if you had the balls to post your venom, you would have already or are you just a flapping your mouth (keyboard)? We'll know who you are anyway when Hell Week starts and we don't see you and your kid there. Two weeks until your cover is blown.

Both teams have awesome experienced defenses (edge to Glendora)???
You do realize CO is returning 10 starters from a team that played in the Southwest finals right.
Mayor's Trophy will come back to CO where it belongs.

Miss you dude!
No doubt the Mayor's Trophy game will be big this season... this time at Charger Stadium! While I would prefer to see the game at Citrus, nevertheless, it will be one of the great games of the season.
Both teams have awesome experienced defenses (edge to Glendora), COHS has the edge on offense. How will this pan out on game night... have to wait and see. I predict a low scoring night, like last year. The winner will have a 7 point advantage.
Good to hear from you Big Reg!

Yeah that Ian Johnson situatiion is a real bad deal. Can you believe that sh*t in 2007? I thought he went to Damien. The paper said San Dimas HS. That was easily one of the best college football games I have ever seen.

What do you guys and gals think of the situation with Ian Johnson and his fiance? He has been getting numerous death threats as the days get closer to their wedding. Its a sad state of affairs. Its 2007 and we still have to deal with this B.S. Unfortunately, racism seems to be alive and well.

Please dude lighten up. It's summer time and re-read my post wise guy. I did say something about Coach P. But in case you missed it here it is again.... now what is your guess? Where is Coach P vacationing?
AT-
Knowing the kind of guy Coach Pasquarella is (devoted family man) I'd be willing to bet he and his family are on vacation together or something similar. 3 weeks off is a longtime..... the question is where is Coach P vacationong? Any guesses? Classy guy like himself, I'll bet he is at Coach LeDuc's Newport Beach Vacation home if not his own by now. Let's start a contest - Who can guess where Coach P and his family are vacationing? My money is on Newport Beach. Talk to you later AT can't wait for the football season.

By the way - All I can say is that the Mayor's Trophy Game is going to be a Big One - played at Chargers Stadium this season, I believe WEEK 3
I think COHS might have the edge this year... but it is still early.....
Good Night People and we'll see you next week AT

What's wrong with Juan Pollo? I love that place. Get the Juan's Big Burrito. It comes with a side of potato salad. One of those, and yes I can eat a whole one, and I'm sleeping about an hour later.

Big Reg. If you have something to say about Coach P. why dont you say it. Instead of "Lets start a contest" and win a prize? What happened, He wont return your calls either? LOL at you.....
