Thanks Blu,
It is just a shame that these guys could not have stuck around for the 4 year plan. This also includes Maciel and Seanez and Crespo. When these young men were freshman they won their league which most of it is the new Trinity league now. What this team would look like right now as seniors. Well that is all hindsight now but it just makes me wonder what kind of great games we would be having with SOND, Crespi and Loyola this year with that team left in tact. All that said this years team is not bad and all the haters will hope for Amat to fall face down but I am not so sure that is going to happen. Wags is a monster and Seals looks good back there with him. Lenhart has impressed me and I understand he is tutored very well off the field, this may be what Amat needs this year a good energetic QB. The O-line looks pretty damn strong and the kids look like they built themselfs up in the off season, the D-line will have a powerful rush this year with Silva,Austin, and Stremple. Putting points on the board will not be a problem my only concern is our young DB's., Verti tunes that part up and this team is going to have a productive season. To the people who want the Top Ten Lineman posted...true these guys are the meat and potatoes of a teams success but I dont think anyone knows their names and their are allot of good lineman out there. Tell me if you can name the O-Line for USC OR UCLA off the top of your head..but you do know who the QB, WR, AND RB's are...that is just the way it is. Games are won and lost in the trenches and these guys deserve more recognition but it just does not pan out that way. People know the names of the players that score the points and it has always been this way..It is not going to change....Blu your input is welcome thanks for coming back on...I also have been posting less due to Work and vacation.

you didn't understand what was said about the lineman. EVERY TEAM needds them and they should be in the spot light, but the truth is. They are not. That's why Aram and others don't write about any. They don't know your names. It's there in plan english.

Anonymous,
Further, every great LB will credit his defensive linemen for opening paths for those crucial sachs and tackles which always makes the LB look good.
Give some credit to the top lineman in the area. They are the foundation of any team.

anonymous,
if you were a quarterback and you said that about your linemen youd be hurtin real bad right now. how could you say that about the big boys? ya they dont get in the spotlight, but without them the guys in the spotlight wouldnt be there. so next time you think about talking bad about the big fellas, think again.

Not only did Walsh revolutionize the way that offensive football is taught (and the framework for the WCO as we know it today, straight from Coach Walsh's mouth, was developed by Sid Gillman - not Coryell), but his "coaching lineage" is, as you say, very impressive.
Like Mike White or Mike Holmgren who spawned Mike Sherman, Andy Reid, Steve Mariucci, Marty Mornhinweg and Brad Childress. Or George Seifert who found Mike Shanahan and Jeff Fisher. Then there's Paul Hackett to Mike McCarthy, Jon Gruden, and Bill Callahan. And Ray Rhodes, Sam Wyche, Mike Mularkey, then Bruce Coslet. Finally Dennis Green who gave opportunities to Brian Billick, Jack Del Rio; Mike Tice, Scott Linehan, Tony Dungy, Herm Edwards, Lovie Smith, Mike Tomlin and Rod Marinelli. A coaching who's who, for certain.
However, if we in the sportsworld are really fortunate, Coach Walsh's legacy may be most remembered for his work as one of the first National Advisory Board members for the Positive Coaching Alliance. Our organization was born out of the Stanford Athletic Department in the late '90s, largely with the support of Coach Walsh and will change the culture of youth and high school sports - even if it's one league, one coach, one parent at a time.
Coach is one of the most gracious men (similar to Coach Wooden) and having the opportunity to spend some time with Coach a few times the past couple of years has proved to be a a blessing. Here is an interview that I was honored to sit in on in person. It is a a must-read for all Walsh fans and for any aspiring coach.
Read. Browse. Enjoy.

Dude! we all know that the great football teams have great lineman on both sides of the ball, but they are never in the lime light! They are not on this blog either. Have a couple #1's from In-N-Out and hit the gym and stop looking for the top 10 lineman. No body knows any!! We all need ya, but don't know ya. Not because there isn't any, we just don't know your names. Just your # when we read the program. Sorry, just fact.

MATMTWTBAG
I forgot about McBride. All we can do is speculate about why he left buy I would bet the farm it had something to do with having to share carries with Wagner and more importantly, Wells. Wells actually ran for almost half of all McBride's yards for the season and Wells missed the last two games of the season. At Los Altos, McBride is THE starter and the offensive scheme over there is now probably centered around him.
If he and Wells stayed at Amat, there would be no doubt that he would have started but he would have also had to continue sharing carries and/or catches. And then there is the monster, Wagner to compete with as well. And I mean monster in a good way!
I guess the most positive thing that came out of all of this is that the lower level football programs at Amat are doing something right. They are developing good players. It's unfortunate that this year, these good players will probably do some great things at other schools that compete at lower divisions. But in this day and age, when parents are living vicariously through their kids and tossing academics into the wind, what would anyone expect?

Ditto Mike...R.I.P. Coach Walsh
to just crazy: You sound like you are new to youth sports. Stand by. Unfortunately it begins early. Just go watch a Jr. Gremlin flag game to see how bad it is. They don't keep score, yet parents and coaches are going off like they just won or lost the Super Bowl. As kids get older, it gets worse. Yet I wouldn't trade it for the world. Enjoy.
Hey Anonymous: I read with great interest your take on Glendora South Hills LL. I coached there a few years ago. My team won league, then we won City Series and they handed me the Major All Star Team. When I saw the kids that were selected (and more important...the kids that weren't) I gave the Player Agent the list back and told her that neither my son nor I would participate. They aren't any different than any other league with regard to All Stars. At least the Golden's aren't allowing PAROLED FELONS to coach teams like they do at Charter Oak Pony.
Football season can't start soon enough!
I'm waiting for that Linemen top 10 as well! C'mon Aram! Then...do you dare do a Top 10 Coach list at the risk of offending any coach you may want to eventually interview?

Today is a sad day for the Clone, a coach to whom I had the pleasure of talking to and getting to know over the years has passed away.
The great Coach Bill Walsh left us at the hands of leukemia. he has been fighting for a couple of years now.
If you ever want to learn anything about football, life in general and or life after football I suggest you go out and buy some of his published works. Or even if you get a chance if you can find them some of his motivational dvd's.
Coach thanks, the lessons I learned from you I use to this day.

The Amat Ron Brown was a 6'5" 225 DE/OLB that played at USC through '86 and spent two seasons with the Raiders in '87 and '88.
That other Ron Brown was a big-time kick returner also (and I believe still holds some NFL return records)

Hey Aram the parents are also crazy about football in JAA football, I was at chicks sporting and there was alot of parents there buying stuff for there kids and haveing them put on sholders pads with pants running in the store and talking loud so the other parents could here were there from. they all have the future star on there team and the parents were loud. Is this what i have to look foward to. if anybody out there can answer that will be great. My question is am I going to get sucked into that drama.....

In one of your many postings you state Ron Brown 1982, Los Angeles Raiders. Is this the Ron Brown that won the gold in the 4 x 100 1984 Olympic's and then went on to play with the Raiders. According to him he went to Baldwin Park High not Bishop Amat. Just checking.......

BLU,
totally agree with all you had to say.......Altho I thought losing Bryce McBride was a loss as well...we still have some good RB's over at Amat but Bryce would have helped us at the RB position. We still are ok in that area but Bryce showed signs last year of a good quality RB. Size was a question with him but he was very strong , fast and has heart and determination when touches the ball. I dont know what the fall out was with him over at Amat, and why he trasferred over to Los Altos, but I hated to see him go. Wells, damn that whole situation and why could he not be saved and given a chance. Bonilla that was different and I am hoping he give CHHS a good season..

Hey Mike!
I've been real busy with work but I have more time now to blog. I hope all has been well with you bud. I see that you and Mr. Anymouse have been keeping things nice and warm around here and that is great.
What I see happening in not only the SGV but all of the Southern Section is massive amounts of transfers because of football reasons. I mean, when you have to have a judge bust out the law book and remind coaches that they are not allowed to actively recruit, you know that illegal recruiting has been happening on many levels.
Unfortunately for a lot of families, football has taken on a more important role than academics. Too many parents think their kid is destined to be an NFL star and when their kid is denied a starting position, they pack up their stuff and move so to speak. What a lot of parents are unaware of is that there are dozens of scholarship Div-1 football players (PER TEAM) that never get to suit up for a Saturday game. There are players with full rides that never get further than the practice squad. And if you do indeed start on a Div-1 team, the odds of you getting drafted by an NFL team are astronomical (exaggeration but ya know what I mean).
I've stated this before but the cold hard fact is that if your son has had trouble securing a starting position by the time he is a Senior, the chances of him getting a football scholarship are pretty much nil. By the time he is a Senior, there should not be any question of his starting position. Of course there are always exceptions but these exceptions are extremely rare.
Players leaving Bishop Amat is nothing new. The competition level for starting positions has grown more fierce over the last years. This coupled with the high number of parents who think their kid is the next NFL star is why we see so many kids here in the SGV as well as the OC switching from school to school. Academics has taken a backseat.
For most years, the talent level at Bishop Amat is very high. Last year was a perfect example. Amat started 18 juniors and sophmores. Against St. Francis, 4 of those starters were injured (including 1 senior) and did not play and yet they beat St. Francis. As far as the transfers this year, there were only 2 that hurt....Wells and Bonilla. Neither of them had anything to do with Verti or the football program. Wells left for disciplinary reasons and Bonilla had to leave because of family problems. All the other transfers mentioned on this blog were NOT in contention for a starting position....again...academics gets dumped on.
There are many that just love to jump all over Amat as soon as something troubling happens to the football program....Most people have no idea what it's like to play at such a high level year after year. Of course it's always possible for a lower division team to play a good Pac-5 team close and possibly even beat that Pac-5 team but they key phrase here is "year after year."
But you, Mr. Mike The Clone are different...
You've seen Jim Walker and Redlands in action and they were a sight to behold and they looked more like a college team. And yet, Walker's Terriers were the red headed beaten step child of Div-1 football that took many an early exit from the playoffs. Many came at the hands of the Lancers...Walker has yet to beat Amat. I wish more people would be more aware of what goes on in the Pac-5. Perhaps then they would not be so quick to relish in the demise of the Lancers.
But I also know that Amat fans are indeed loud and proud...like myself. But if more people were aware of the level of competition Amat faces every year, they would understand. What if Chino Hills had to face Mission Viejo every single year?....What if South Hills had Esperanza in their league?...West Covina played Mater Dei great last year...But imagine if West Covina had to play Mater Dei for 20 or more straight years...
Now add Servite, St. Paul, St. John Bosco, Loyola, Santa Margarita etc. for 20 years straight (give or take little) and then a person would begin to understand where our pride comes from...win or lose.
Wow! I went everywhere with this entry! HAHA! That's all I have time for!
I'm routing for the Tartans this year. I would love nothing more than for them to prove their doubters wrong.
Happy Saturday Night All!

I know this is bascially a high school blog, but as discussed before I think this is relevant. For the last couple of year I have belonged to the South Hills Little League here in Glendora which has some of the nicest fields and facilities ever seen in this part of town. So here is where I think that Joe Colt post is relevant. We enter All-Star teams every year and send them to their respective play-offs. The thing is at South Hills everyone thinks their kid is an all-star so what do they do they assign kids who have no business being all-stars to these teams. It is total make your kid feel good about himself mentality. It is so sad. If we had a true allstar team we would probably win some games. But know everyone is a allstar with the current people that run South Hills. Turns outs that the people that run south hills are the parents you guys are talking about. They even want to move to Pompei Park. Currently the kids play on grass infields permanent pitching mounds andit is a nice experice for the kids. So I hear what your saying when it comes to a few parents at south Hills its just the ones that are in charge and starts with last name starts with a G.

Joe Colt,
Bingo!
When you were told to be home at 5:00 you were home at 5:00 not 5:01 and two seconds because you knew if you weren't home at that time your butt was done.
Some of us have raised nothing but "Veal" and are afraid to upset little Johnny because we want him to like us, be his best friend......errrr what non-sense. And for all you high school glory boys "Hell Week" was just that "Hell Week" two hours in the morning and two hours at night. No frecking water bottles, no towels to dry off, if you were hurt suck it up and deal with it. Today that's a lawsuit, and parents looking for the quick buck and a way out.
It makes me sick some of these people.
Be a Parent lead by example say "no" when needed it's ok.
Not a day goes by when I say the same thing " I look back on this and think we were better for it and also tougher."
Nice Job Joe Colt and hope some of the youngsters read your post and "Get it"
Now that you have me "riled up" I better just leave it at that.

Joe Colt,
I could not agree more. I vividly recall getting the first Atari and we must have had most of Lark Ellen and Las Palmas at our house. We played over-the-line at Lark Ellen and could always find a group of Colts willing to play “tackle” football at a venue to be chosen. The issue does revolve around the character of kids that exist today versus yesterday. Sure you have the great character examples today, but they seem far fewer with the dads (moms too) pressure of today.
I grew up in Northview’s backyard, but you just never say the transfers you see today. You went to elementary with your closest friends; met some good guys in junior high and you all went to high school. You parents supported you and did not try and place you at some other school only to see you fail or never achieve the stardom they thought you might have. How many of these transfers are actually making it well beyond what they might have done on their own campus?
Joe Colt, remember when Covina crushed Ganesha at the district stadium (wild card, semi’s, CIF champs year) only to have Ganesha beat the crap out of you guys in he North end zone. I still remember Dusenberry knocked out on the ground.

Joe Amat,
Placing this here on this thread since its current and hopefully enjoyed.
There have been many good points made on here regarding the athletes of prior generations vs todays athletes, I can see valid points with both sides of this topic. The one thing that hasnt been mentioned (Or at least I havent seen it) is the style of parenting from generation to generation, my kids are spoiled and its my fault along with the tech advances we didnt have (Computer, Myspace, Ipod, cell phones, texting, video games etc) that I believe make you soft.
Remember when the Atari pong hit our neighborhoods? The kid that had it was BMOC and his room was packed with friends, but that was all we had, just pong. Mainly we played football, wiffle ball, tag, hide n seek, rode our bikes etc and we did this under the street lights on the local cul de sac, I look back on this and think we were better for it and also tougher.
The parenting part comes with our generations parents, specifically the Dads (I still hear stories about Mr Wolak and specifically what he had in store for Jim when he didnt beat Coach Kearns in the turkey trot at Traweek, classic story that has legs to this day). They were tough as nails, usually WWII or Korean Vets that didnt take our crap and instilled a different set of values in us. We owe alot to them and they made us what we are, I cant say we let our kids down since we in no way could be our Dads but every generation that comes along will be a bit softer until the country faces a crisis that forces us to be less indulgent and focused in the same direction as our parents had to be.

Tart Mom..
You made me chuckle with that last post. It appears you missed my hidden point. The word "tart" is indeed used as slang to describe a loose woman. But the reason why that particular word is used is because....ummmm...well...
Can you think of another word that may be described as a small tangy pastry?
As far as it being a description of the opposite of a woman who is barefoot and a kitchen dweller, I have to admit, you lost me.
As far as sales are concerned, you must know every detail of the product from every angle however foreign or irrelevant. You must breathe and swallow the same air as the customer to respond and possibly counter any question. And if this fails, you must convince the customer that the air on your side of the wall is not only more beneficial to their health but will also bring a certain orgasmic joy.
I'm no stranger to the sales mentality nor methods. And my post was not an attack on you (I apologize if you felt that it was). For what it's worth, I do hope the Tartans kick the crap out of everyone this next season.
And yes, everyone on here thinks that I'm overweight because of my name. Does it matter? NAHHH! I'm here for that might and magic of the

Thank you Bluorca for your concern, I am familiar that tart can be used a slang to refer to a loose women however it is also used to describe something tangy as well as a small pastry. I thought it would be appropriate to describe a Glendora Tartan mother who isnt barefoot, in the kitchen all day and has a mind as well as an opinion. Bluorca please remember that the first lesson in sales is to not have presumptions about people, if presumptions were the rule the name Bluorca could conjure up many thoughts that would be worse then a tart.

You might want to change your name. In Europe, Australia and in many places in the U.S. a "tart" is another word to describe a promiscuous woman...and I'm putting this lightly because the other words I could have used are terrible ones. Of course, if you already knew this then please disregard this message. I hope I've been helpful.

Tart Mom,
Come on now I'm gonna have to reel you back in pretty soon if you keep that forty to fifty to nothing diatribe up............your border lining on becoming a "button wearer".
Actually you are "button wearing" but since your a "newbie" that will be your excuse. Some of these dopes will start knocking you around a little with some of those outlandish predictions so becareful for what you wish for.
You seem like a sensible woman, eeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr regain those senses and come back to reality.
Just showing some love!
OUT!
Mike the Clone
P.S. You see MOM you got them piling already.

Re: C.I.A. and Aram
Please, let me explain myself before you write and/or say anything more.
Big Lou is the President of Charter Oak and Commander in chief of the Charter Oak Football Program so never once was I trying to imply that he issued any orders from his office.
Big Lou and his staff are the men that command and direct their team and are responsible for planning any football strategy. Big Lou issues the rules, regulations, and instructions for the football program not me.
So never once did I hear anything directly or indirectly from Big Lou, my son, or anyone else for that matter regarding being “quiet” but after I read what you wrote Aram I felt so strongly about your instincts and intuitions that I thought maybe I should express something too but again my words NEVER Big Lou.
I recognize, respect, and love Big Lou and his staff’s passion for the game and for our young men so much and you’re right Aram we have been extremely quiet this summer focusing on ourselves and there hasn’t really been any movement with us but I personally consider that to be a positive.
Our present, current, existing state of affairs means you’re right once again Aram in what I was trying to say is let’s just wait until Friday nights this fall because there’s really nothing to talk about unless you can try and convince me otherwise and I am willing to listen to your debate and what you have to say before I make any final decisions now.
C.I.A. Admittedly, I kept reading your comments until you finally antagonized me enough to where I chose to concede and write this comment back because my original plan was to never write anything else again just one time and one time only but I respect our men too much that I have to make certain everything is very clear and concise. So you win and speaking of which I also want to wish your team (who is your team?) the best of luck this year and much success and most importantly good health.
Sincerely,
C.O. Dad

Response 2: Tart Mom
Maybe your not really a Plaid Mom??? Cuz giving basketball scores ie.."score maybe 40's or 50's" during football season is gonna get BB coaches angry with you mommy dearest.
FYI: We won't score 40 or 50 pts against anyone we play in 2007.

Oh Tart mom.... You Glendora people NEVER were good losers, but you are even worse winners.. Perhaps you shouldn't put the cart before the horse... Being confident is ok, but play and win the game first, then toot your obnoxious horns...Humbleness sure is a dying quality... Let's hope you are not eating crow soon enough..When YOU pop off like that, PeOPLE love to see you lose!

Five more weaks until we play covina and we cant wait, GHS is for real this year so be prepered colts. After hearing and reading about how good we are this year from the players and plaid-lad the score should be lop sided and covina will be luckie to even score, maybe mid 40s or 50s to nothing is our prediction. No asterick like last year when they didnt have theyre qb, we will win easily and hopefully use our second string juniors to seal the victorie by half time. Go Glendora
