At Glendora, it's all about defense

I do agree with you that size is over rated. The bottom line is the whole package. Size,strength,speed and foot work as well as good coaching. Coaching being the key in the whole mix. If you want to see the best of both world's you have to watch Norco High School's program year in and year out. These coaches teach all of thee above. The OL at this program is also taught great blocking sceams. They pick off more LB/CB then any HS football team that I have ever seen. If any of you coaches have a chance to get your hands on tapes of Norco High Schools films it will make you a better coach.

In college there is no shortage of fast moving 275 pound kids but that doesn’t mean they are that way in HS.

Am I way off here, or does HSFB still afford plenty of opportunity for the reasonably sized athlete in the trench as opposed to the requisite 275 pound overly bulked up kid?

Having said this, do you favor asthetically bigger, less agile lineman or smaller, better technique and more agile kids to anchor your O line?

I would have to agree with you! First of all, it dosen't matter who won more games, who's a better coach. What matters now, is the kids did learn a lot from both men.

They both gave alot to GJAA programs and numerous kids had good experiences! I would bet, that Henry or Ken are very proud of the kids that have moved on to play in HS.

The team at Glendora has been together for a long time now, and its great to see them still palying together! And how can you forget others outside of Glendora that have marched on and done a wonderful job for their respective schools.

I had the opprotunity of meeting both men who continue to follow kids they coached outside the program. They both deserve alot of credit on their services to the community!

Ken and Henry are both excellent people and great examples for the boys. Ken's job was tough having to recruit from all areas to fill a team. Most of the kids that age had already begun freshman football. He did and continues to do a great job. I believe Henry had back-to-back championships. Thats also a great acomplishment.

Sorry for budding in here. But you guys (or girls) were getting carried away for absolutely no reason.

Good news is Ken's and Henry's boys are mostly all together here on the Tartans. Lets all support the combined group for a great season!!

Looking forward to seeing how teams will handle the Tartans. It will certainly be interesting.

Nichols & Young speedy... Come on, they might be able to run down a sub5 guy and thats it!

Edwards has to be the most schooled and smartest football player on that field. Legit speed with good movement. Nichols not big but good speed too!

This being said lets again be honest, Pasqy knows thats if there is any team on his schedule likely to produce an upset against you its Covina, he saw it almost happen the last three years and thats undisputable.

It makes for a great opening game and provides some intrigue, I will be there and most likely standing next to Big Daddy whooping and hollering for the boys in Cardinal and White as we have been doing for the last three years.

No matter what the final score its going to be a great game and as always Covina will give you all they have with tremendous heart.

I don't agree with you thoughts about the speed of the Tartan LB's. Horn, Niles and Young are fast enough to run down most RB's I've seen. Young has been on the sidelines recently with a foot injury. But he will return shortly. D-lineman Kovar had a Hamstrain, but is expected back next week. Great speed and size in the Tartan D backfield with Beckwith, Edwards and others. DB's R. Young and Nichols, may lack size, but they are faster than a rabbit and hit like a train wreck. Not at all concerned about this D.

I hear QB Kaluz has looked great in practice: good arm, speed and leadership. RB Vega can not be stopped with one or two tacklers. Better swarm him if you hope to stop him. Tartan kicking game shows the greatest improvement overall...finally!

Will be a great season if they stay healthy.

You are probably correct about that but keep in mind that when Covina had up years in D9 and Glendora had middle of the road years in D2 we played you tough yet still lost, Glendora is being so pumped up by their boosters that this year could possibly be an upset.

I am not holding my breath but thats how things usually work when you think your all that and the team your playing against is on a down year, food for thought.

Should be a fun game either way, cant wait no matter the outcome

Someone said earlier size isn't everything. I have to agree. The big boys must also posses speed, strength and coordination or their size becomes a real hinderance. Duarte had some of the biggest size kids I have ever seen and plenty of heart, but the big boys were alittle akward. You saw what the Tartans did in that game. Without naming names, a few of the big boys at Damien suffer from the same akwardness. Hopefully things are better this year.

Yes, Chino Hills is always a threat. We don't hear a lot about them on this blog as they fall outside of the Trib circ, but, we are all very aware of their talent and speed.

Spirit is high at GHS. These experienced boys understand that this will probably be their only chance in a long while to win league and advance in CIF. They are working hard. The team looks to be the strongest, fastest, most experienced Tartan team I have personaly seen in many years.

Maybe they will go all the way this year and maybe they won't. But, the great thing about being a Tartan, the boys keep the spirit high...win or lose.

Once you hit the CIF Playoffs you will not make it past the second round. Their are three or four IE teams waiting for you and it will not be pretty unless you have a total package on both sides of the ball.

When glendora blew away duarte and beat charter oak last season, both these teams had players on the line who were 6'6" 260lbs and larger. size isn't everything. both when you add size to speed and experience, it helps
