Best fans, best rivalries? Tell us where we need to be on Big Friday...

One of the often asked questions is how we select Friday Night games of the week, or how we decide which games deserve more coverage than others.
Believe it or not it's not based on kick-backs, playing favorites or having a better relationship with one coach more than another. It comes down to you, the football fan, and where you're headed each weekend. The games that we feel generate the most interest in the San Gabriel Valley and our readership usually get top billing. They're the games you blog about on Friday night, and read on Saturday morning. Obviously, teams with storied traditions, big fan followings and can't-miss rivalries are at the top of the list. But we're flexible. We also jump on the bandwagon of the "Who's Now" - which are the surprise teams that nobody expected to do well, but have captured the imagination of their school and alumni, and who deserve to be covered.
So, where will that take us in 2007? I bet you already know, but I'd still like to hear about it.
BTW: Are there any rivalries better than these?
Charter Oak - Los Altos
South Hills - West Covina
Covina - Northview

GO Colts! vikings suck
charter oak and los altos is going to be the best game, but charter oak will come up with the win. charter oak is going to be the best team in the area
huskies aug 28,
At least WC has the b_ lls to schedule one of the big boys . Since this is last year of the MD vs WC why don't you guys fill the gap for the next 2 yrs. and schedule MD instead of some scrimmage with ND. Make it for real if you really want to test your worth.
wow south hills, west covina,
cant wait.
sh. 35

Huskies at aug.28,
Your jealous cause you & your boys ain't in that
picture aren't you?
Rock the Bulldog world? we'll see in week 9, don't stress to much over that picture, it can't always be about S. hills.
they should start a week 1 Mater Dei vs West Covina every year so we can see WC get their ass-es handed to them at the start of every season. So.Hills will rock their WC bulldog world this year.
I MISS THE COVINA-SOUTH HILLS RIVALRY ..DAM IT...I REALLY MISS THOSE GAMES!
"Former Bulldog, that's what I'm going to miss most about not being the Star-News prep editor, the Turkey Tussle. The Muir-PHS rivalry is right there with Garfield-Roosevelt. Hey Dan,
Ya it is a nice, (allright killer) photo, Im just getting back into posting (I have been sitting back just watching the Football momentum build!) I'm looking forward to being at the Game of the Week, South Hills -vs- West Covina !
sgvpride,
right on with your blog, very tuff league, if you lose in this league you lost to a good team,
Your moniker, "Sergeant Schultz" is appropriate
No conspiracy, jsut stupidity. Anyone that is a long time Swordsman will attribute the "Carroll regime" with the downfall of St Paul athletics in the late '80s early '90s that they are still trying to recover from. As Sergeant Schultz used to get called, - "Dummkopf"
Remember what Sergeant Schultz used to say?
"I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!"
Might as well be Msgr. Carroll, Ertle, etc
are u serious bout that wilson being keppel of the valley. Ya rite?. Tim gilmore this year. Bernal and iran last year. Andrew romero this year tal receiver. They just play in a tough league
SHFC & UCLA - what is your problem? Keep to your own elite football schools
dan his roomate is a o-fer over in the covina's
What happened to the Los Altos - Wilson Rivalry? I remember it being so huge. Some said Wilson has become the Kepple HS of the Valley. Lot of smart kids but it certainly have lost its athletes.
Joe Amat,
So what are you suggesting that there is some kind of St. Paul conspiracy to undermine Amat's winning tradition by these St. Paul cronies? Hmmmmmmm, very interesting, I say out with all the St. Paul slime connections.
Not considered a rivalry yet, but West Co & Charter Oak have played each other the last 5 years now going on 6, the last three games have been exciting & close games, hopefully this year will the same.
Anonymous,
No offense but I kind of agree with anonymous II,
it seems like you had such a grudge against the big guy, almost obsession like, its been 2 or 3 weeks since he left & you still seem to want to
post about him, best to let it go.
There once was a clown from San Dimas,
who in football had promised to ream us,
but when the Smudge Pot was done,
all knew who had won,
Bearcats 35 - 14 for the dream-a's
(With apologies to E Lear)
ANONYMOUS II, I CAN TELL WITH YOUR MENTALITY YOU WOULDN'T GET IT ANYWAYS-SO NO SENSE WASTING MY TIME BUT THANKS FOR YOUR FEEBLE ATTEMPT AT A PSYCH 101 DIAGNOSIS. IT WAS QUITE IMPRESSIVE AND YOU ARE SO FAR OFF BUT GOOD TRY LITTLE BUDDY. GOOD NEWS - I HAVE MOVED ON OR "JETTED" ALONG BUT I GOTTA GIVE A SHOUT OUT EVERY TIME I HEAR THE SAME COMPLAINTS I HAD ABOUT THE BIG GUY. KEEP UP THE STUDIES.
If any of you spent any time with Aram personally, you would not feel one inch of bad for the big guy and the blogs that he created. Some people have that side to them that they enjoy pressing people's buttons and he was one of them. This was his playground for a few years and he played like the biggest kid on the monkeybars. He picked the topics, put his spin on it, and than he and his few backers ripped anyone that didn't agree. Remember this, he invited the criticism by starting the blog and having heavy opinions on prep sports- calling out the former Amat coach about "wanting to spend time with his family" was uncalled for...I'll say it again, spending some time on the La Salle sidelines as opposed to being the head coach at Amat is apples and oranges, but Aram went after him, so in return he got slapped around here at times and unfairly, those comments would often get deleted, but not the ones on certain coaches which was outright embarrasing and I was ashamed the Tribune let that stay on their website, but anyways, don't shed a tear for the big guy, he loved it! Just glad to see Freddy here and the Mcd godfather out!!!
Joe Colt,
Thanks man! That means a lot! and I mean that sincerely. Again my best to "Mouse the Warrior"!

anonymous the hate you have for aram is obvious it as if you were passed over for a job and he got the job and your just still mad or your son did not get pick for some team which is it aram is gone mov on
JOE COLT, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ON ABOUT ARAM. HE STIRRED THE POT AND THEN BAILED ONCE IT GOT GOING, THEN CRIED SO HIS "FEW" LOYALS WOULD DEFEND HIM TO NO END. (THE VERY FEW) hE WAS SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND BELEIVE ME MANY OF US WENT TO MNGMNT ABOUT HIS LACK OF SKILLS AND LACK OF CLASS. It was a major concern to them as well and he was being watched over prtty good, maybe the reason he "jetted" I think AnyMouse would MUCH prefer Fred's style, but some haters are still here so maybe not. Well thanks for letting ALL of know and ANYMOUSE is missed.
MTC,
No worries, Anymouse and myself both have alot of respect for you so have no concerns there.
He will never come back, I spoke to him today and he feels that the hatred that used to be on here bothered him so much personally that it took up too much mental time that could be spent thinking of lives positives instead of the blogs negatives, makes sense to me.
He also felt that positive dialogue was stifled by this hatred, you would post a comment and 20 anonymous guys or gals would fly off the handle at you, this went for Plaid Lad, Joe Amat etc.
A rumor would start up about a kid and the haters came out of the woodwork, why would anyone wish bad things upon any teenager?
Players would leave Amat and everyone was so happy about the issues there, why? Thats our only D1 rep, those kids not only represent Amat they represent the entire SGV at the highest level of prep football. 80% of the bloggers want them to fail and fail badly, that is unreal.
These are the reasons he left and the same reasons I never used to post, I know some people liked Aram but he wasnt doing anyone a favor but himself.

Pardon my ignorance, where is St.Paul?
Not to mention that at amat Msgr Carroll (President), the Vice-Principal, the financial officer, the boys basketball coach and who knows how many others are all from St Paul.
The sooner that we get rid of all of them at amat the better off we will be.
i hear not a peep about san dimas, are thy any good this year? is zurnikow still coaching there?
i hear not a peep about san dimas, are thy any good this year? is zurnikow still coaching there?
OK! Amat has kids from Pico Rivera and Whittier and also from Hacienda Heights and La Puente. SP has kids from those areas as well. In the past people from both schools work with eachother and live by eachother. Example being I work with several Amat alumni and the banter goes deeper than you can imagine at work. I was part of the rivalry and still follow both teams. I played with Daylon and Randy Guanko at Rowland and several other Amat players. For example Amat coach Ignacio Ambriz started his highschool career at SP before graduationg from Rowland.
NATIONAL & STATE RANKINGS ARE POSTED TODAY!
CHECK OUT MAXPREPS.COM & CALPREPS.COM!!!
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG???????
THE KID WILL BE BANGING HEADS NEXT WEEK!
DEN KEEPER THAT MAKES NO SENSE, AMAT IS ONE OF THE FEW SCHOOLS WHERE THE KIDS ARE not FROM THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD OR AREA. YOU MIGHT BE RIVALS FOR DIFFERENT REASONS BUT IT AINT THAT.
SP vs Amat hands down. Just plain bad blood players from the same area and neighbors that square of in this epic rivalry.
spartan 4 ever,
To have a rivalry you have to have competition between the 2 schools which history has shown is not there when you face us .Where is the intrest in that. That would be like AMAT and La Puente High as a rival game. Also please read Joe Amat's statement again and take your time to grasp what he wrote.
Anonymous,
Thank you for pointing that out, I hadn't had my second diet coke in me yet. I kind of thought that was wierd that Joe Colt was running "smack" at the Clone.
And Joe Colt please accept my apology for being a little "jumpy". I truly mean that. Me bad! I need a swift kick in the ass for that.
And do me a favor when you see "Anymouse the Warrior" tell him he should drop in sometime just to check in and tell him the Clone say's hi.

mike the c... actually when reading Joe Colt's post - I think he meant that was one of the things that frustrated anymouse, the comments made TOWARDS Wells, McD and yourself..Again t reiderate my BIG problem with Aram - stop the hate. Easy there tiger, again you seem a bit jumpy and ready to pounce...sit back and have a little fun.
Joe Colt - I pretty much agree with you and your buddy, anymouse. I am about maintaing some decency & integrity here yet not being all cheesy and PC.
Hey MTC I found this for you this was about the time that I became somewhat of a semi Mike The Clone fan and realized that you were somewhat of a jerk and not a total jerk if anything you encouraged anymouse to stick with it.

Joe Colt,
Ah excuse me...
"Anymouse" did not have a problem with me AT ALL that I'm aware of.
As a matter of fact we had some fun together. WE had an interesting post in regards to the meaning of "Anymouse". And we never had any problems
So Joe Colt don't even go there either that or you just misspoke I'll be more than happy to go back and repost some of the conversations "Anymouse" and I had.
I do know that one of the last times he was here he had some "dope" giving him a bad time about something, which I don't remember. And he did tell me that he was frustrated with some of the idiots but his frustration was not with me.
Joe I have respect for you and all of a sudden your spewing this blind hatred of the Clone...what gives Joe?
"Anymouse" and I had some good debate on this and that but as far as I was concerned we both enjoyed each others post and the "takes" we took on them.
So just for the record and to refresh your memory Joe Colt here is a posted conversation "Anymouse" and I had back in June of this year and we were discussing the moniker Anymouse and his service to this country. I beleive this posting was around memorial Day…
Anymouse,
Great stuff on the moniker...did you serve?
And if you did, thank you for your service, you’re a better man than I am.
Out!
Mike the Clone
Mike,
To answer your question I did serve and enjoyed doing so, it turned out to be my thing and I spent over a decade doing so...
I also want to thank you for your acknowledgement and as far as being better than anyone else I hardly see it that way, just a different set of circumstances...
"AnyMouse" was good stuff and I used to read the reports religiously, to this day I still practice many of the lessons learned from it in my everyday life, complacency kills...
AnyMouse...
Anymouse,
Listen and listen close...You sir are what this country is all about. You sir has served your country with honor and pride and came home alive. You sir have my utmost respect, because of you sir I have the right to sit here and voice my opinions, right or wrong as they maybe. You sir have served your country to give us all here in this blog the right to say the things we do and I'm sure I've ticked you off at times too, but sir you have served and I admire you to no end.
Anymouse no matter how many times we disagree, thank you sir for you have served I cannot say that enough...God Bless you.
You are a true American and I hope all who like me and dislike me put our differences aside and on July 4th walk up to a Vet and also someone who is now serving and shake their hand and just say thanks.... beleive me it means a lot to them.
Anymouse again God Bless you. You maybe the mouse, but you the man!
I Am Out!

So Joe Colt come on man give me a break….if you have a beef with me don’t mask it behind “Anymouse”

Why cant Morrison call Verti? I wish all children could go to Damien and be above everyone else> ahhhhhhhh WWJD?... WHO?.J who? this is sparta???..AMAT always beat U down
SpartyBoy,
Nice of you to offer, but the series was on. A couple of times in the past two decades. Canceled by the Green and Gold. Both times. And the all-time record - not so good for the all-boys school on the wrong side of the hill. 19-4-1 in school history. 31-3 your last time out, the season before last - in a down year for the lancers. So we understand and don't take offense. Next.
And I didn't say amat didn't want long term SGV rivalries, just that they wouldn't happen. Why? Ask your guy, he might tell you...or Pasqy at GHS - he's dropped us 3 times at 3 different schools. Maybe ask Big Lou. Wilson tried a while back and was so devastated the game before their league opener they lost their next 4...then never again. Makes sense, that's why the Conqs and Huskies don't venture there. It's easier to just claim that you are the top dog based on record alone.
You probably think that Boise State and your boy, Ian Johnson (although props to him) should have been #1 in the nation last year because they were undefeated.
Mr. Amat,
I just read your comments on the Damien Amat rivarly. It would be nice have Verti call Morrison & schedule a long term series. As you said, Amat doesn't want any rivarlies in the SGV. That's fine or is that just an excuse for not playing good teams. Maybe Amat doesn't want to find out how good others teams are. You decide! Going back to the Damien Amat rivarly. Have Verti pick up the phone book & look up Damien in La Verne. The pig skins in your corner.
Colt Fan,
Anymouse is a friend of mine, he left because of all the hatred on here refuses to even read the blog let alone post.
I have tried to talk him into coming back and joining the dialogue now that Fred has taken over but he refuses, he didnt like Aram and thought he encouraged this pointed hatred instead of inspiring positives about SGV sports.
I have to say I understand how he feels regarding this, to have people who live in your own backyard directly bash the character of kids, coaches, fellow bloggers and programs is ill.
The comments towards McD, Wells and finally the Clone turned him off, can you blame him? Why blog and hence help encourage this activity.
I again hope we can have this set up with a standardized sign in and only under one screen name, its still anonymous but does provide for a measure of accountability.
Joe Colt
how about glendora and claremont that used to be a great rivalry...why dont these teams play anymore??

Colt Fan,

Mike the Clone
HEY ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO PLAID-LAD OR ANY MOUSE? A COUPLE OF KNOWLEDGABLE GUYS I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM IN SOME TIME. I KNOW THAT ARE NOT ON AN ARAM HOLD-OUT ARE THEY? PLEASE NOT THAT
Well MTC don't brag too much about thinking like A.T. or your BIG GUY, cause there was 1 guy that DID NOT know his sports. he read about a few names a took the little bit of knowledge to the nines. so give yourself a bit more credit. Now I can already tell that Fred will not allow the crap that A.T. did NOR will he start half the crap the he did but maybe your new time restraints haven't let you notice this or maybe you can't run a muck like A.T. let you. Either way, calm down, drink a brewski and try and be happy, spread a little joy and let the OLD DAYS go. Pasky will do just fine, with or w/o your expertise. Now I am officially over your BIG GUY. lets move on.
I went to see SH vs LA last year and it was a small turnout. Rivalries have more significance if it can pack the house.
Fred if you would have said what are the biggest Rivalries that pack a full house (I mean standing room crowd only).....Amat vs St Paul hands down. You need to show up 1 hour before the game to get seated.
Very intense and hard hitting...no love lost here.
Wow! this thread exploded since last night!
Vanner right now the Huskies have the Kings of Cameron rites but it's a new season, see you in week 9, nice picture of the Bulldogs at the top of the thread ehh?

To the Anonymous who posted at August 22, 2007 12:59 PM
ANONYMOUS,
Go back and do your homework, I’m not back peddling on anything still the same old brutally honest Clone. I’ll say it again…”Pasqy” needs to surround himself with good people come to the game with a plan and get it done. He needs to get to the game prepared and so does everyone else around him. The only one with his act together is Strycula. So the nucleus is there…
Coach Lou, Coach Bogan surround themselves with quality coaches why can’t we?
Nothing personal or anything like that, it’s called game time philosophy and I don’t agree with it. PERIOD! Brutally honest enough for you?
As far as Aram, A.T. or sometimes I referred to him as “The Big Guy” we have never met in person but as I guess you can tell Aram and I basically thought the same way about things. That’s why some of these “knuckleheads” thought we were one and the same and that’s why you saw him and myself carry on banter with each other.
Your beef with Aram is your deal……………..I suggest you get over it and deal with it he “jetted” outta here!
Fred is well aware of Mike the Clone and his “rants” and I will never hold back or deviate from expressing an opinion. Not the Clones way! You may not see as much of those “rants” as you used too but that’s due to new time restraints put on me with both my old and new businesses. But believe me I still poke my “fat head” in here to see what some of these dopey “button wearers” are saying.
Do I think Fred has cleaned it up………..as opposed to what? You watch when the season gets fired up your still going to see the same old outrageous comments and postings coming from the Clone haters, the Amat haters and the same guys that all they do is cuss and call you names. So nothing has changed here as far as I can see. If you want “cheese ball throwing let’s don’t offend anyone” postings head over to the Star-News I’m sure they would be more than happy to toss some “cotton balls” your way.
So thanks for not being a hater ANONYMOUS, I only hope I expressed myself to your understanding.

I AM OUT!

Big daddy, I feel like we just got a time-out for encouraging such bad behavior. I am kind of embarrased I responded but I really wanted to go off...then I re-read and laughed. I remembered BEHAVIOR 101, DO NOT FEED THE BEAST
Former Bulldog, that's what I'm going to miss most about not being the Star-News prep editor, the Turkey Tussle. The Muir-PHS rivalry is right there with Garfield-Roosevelt. The smack talk before the game is unreal, even the coaches get into it. And for two teams that don't draw well during the rest of the season, there are at least 10,000 at the Rose Bowl for the Turkey Tussle, regardless of how both teams are doing. But Bulldog, is PHS ever going to win that game again?
Thanks Fred,
Just caught me at the end of a long day. I will in the future keep my comments to my self.
Go Colts!!!
true fred true, should have just bit my lip. stupid stupid stupid (as I am thumping my big old forehead) Ignore the behavior --Ignore
When someone like Ka da sneak makes the comment he made, don't respond. It's not worth a response. Leave it alone and let it get lost in all the comments. Don't add fuel to the fire. Normally I wouldn't respond, but keep this in mind for future comments.
I hope this section isn't going to turn into only the schools in the east SGV. Definitely the biggest rivalry is PHS - Muir. It's so big it gets held at the Rose Bowl every year. Can't get much bigger than that.
dearest keak da sneak, that must be your gangsta name - class act on your comment, you just proved what an idiot you are so I really don't need to tell you now do I? I usually try and ignore STUPID comments but COULDN'T let such an idiotic comment go by. What ae you doing these days?
Big Daddy, dont let these idiots bait you and get under your skin. I almost responded to it myself, but its like respond to who? The next time the same guy taps on his keyboard he might be anonymous, Joe Squat, Bob the gardener etc, you get my drift.
Thats why I hope the trib sets this up correctly and makes people who come here sign on under only one screen name, its too easy to be good one minute and a jerk the next with the current format.
Joe Colt
keak da sneak,
NOW YOU HAVE TOUCHED A NERVE. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? WHAT YOU SAID WAS UNCALLED FOR. WHEN SMALL MINDED PEOPLE LIKE YOU COME ON AND MAKE UNFOUNDED COMMENTS ABOUT THE KIDS I HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE. THERE IS NO NEED TO COME ON HER AND MAKE STUIP COMMENTS ABOUT THE KIDS AT EITHER SCHOOL. BE AN ADULT AND STEP UP AND HELP A KID IF HE OR SHE IS HEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. OOPS, AFTER READING YOUR POST I SEE THAT YOUR TO DUMB TO DO THAT. TAKE A HIKE DUDE!!!!
whats the big deal about the whole covina / northview rivalry.
from what i hear (including those close to the 2 schools) most of these players are just going to end up in some correction facilities program (aka the pen) or at your nearest in and out flipping double doubles.
SO WHATS THE BEEF?!
Maroon and White
"Covina 14 Glendora 7"
Thats funny! Covina hasn't beat Glendora in 4 years. What makes you think this year will be any different? Sorry, no Mcd - no chance.
Fred, I dont mean to hate on the man...but... Can someone please teach Mr. Murray over there at the W. Daily News how to set up a blog (or maybe even turn on a computer.) I would love to read whats the haps' with St. Paul football.
Compared to your's and Scott's blogs its kind of sad.
As for the rivalries, I gotta go with what I know and thats Rosemead vs Arroyo. These two teams always seem to battle it out for the MVL title.
West Covina 24
So. Hills 21
OT
Covina 14 Glendora 7
W.C. Bruins Midget Division vs Walnut Varsity
OH MY GOODNESS, I NEED TO RUSH OUT TO SEE SOUTH HILLS IN PADS BECAUSE "SH ALL DAY " SAYS THEY ARE HUGE AND THEY ARE THE BEST IN SGV. "WOW" I NEED TO GO SEE THEM..... BLA BLA BLA.. WEST COVINA IS GOING TO TAKE THEM DOWN. ESPN STYLE BABY....
Keppel vs. Mountain View...now that's what I'm talking about. OK I said it!!
West Covina Bruins vs. Covina Vikings....now that is a great rivalry across all divisions
mtc clone or is it G-Man? Is that the best you can do to slam a group of kids, who like every other group in the valley, have and are working their tails off, is to make a stupid steroid statement? You are so weak.
Just talked to Pasq, and will be there in the morning to see what the Tartans are all about. He said not to make much of the injuries that some have posted on this thread. He said he's kept a few guys out of practice because of minor stuff, but there are no serious injuries to report, and nothing that will keep anyone out of the season opener against Covina.
horseshoe, what in the world are you talking about. Victor plays baseball if he really wanted to play football, i'm sure they could find a spot for him. i think that big kid jazz is a beast. he has been playing varsity since he was a freshmen. shorts is another good player. i hope that the defense keeps playing well.
Are you sure the the Cortizone for that defense over at glendora is not steroids?....the size of those boys....."Juice me up pasqy"
Re: Posted by: McD...onalds at August 22, 2007 01:45 PM
With the weak schedule we have our JV team could go 3-7 when facing some of these varsity teams. McD was the catalyst for our success and as I stated if Olivas is half as good we go 8-2 at the worst.
and by the way try to make intelligant comments please, Fred should make this an 18 year old and up only blog.
Joe Colt
Re: Posted by: Horseshoe at August 22, 2007 02:01 PM
Victor has never played football, strictly a baseball player. Covina has alot of athletes that dont play football, its ashame because some of these kids would help out tremendously.
Joe Colt
have you seen sh in pads?
Oh my God these boys can hit!!! The defense by far is the best in the valley, come see for yourself!
No Hype(Glendora), its fact
Joe Amat and MTC,
If you think MTC's careless comment would not take on wings, AS IT OBVISIOUSLY HAS, you both live in a fairy tale world!
ATTENTION BLOGGERS! NO LOCKER ROOM CORTIZONE INJECTIONS OF ANY KIND ARE TAKING PLACE AT GLENDORA HIGH. YES THERE ARE A COUPLE KEY DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OUT WITH MINOR INJURIES (PROBABLY BACK TOMORROW) AND G-MAN IS NOT A TARTAN SUPPORTER. AND YES, SOMETIMES MIKE THE CLONE BACK HANDS HIS COMMENTS EMPHASIZING CERTAIN STATMENTS THAT CREATES A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF CONTROVERSY. HATERS WILL TAKE PORTIONS OF STATMENTS AND RUN TO MAKE A POINT.
Welcome Fred, to G-town. Hopefully some of the injured players will be practicing when you arrive so you can get a real look at this awesome defense every one has been talking about!
Covina you should have your baseball player Victor Valenzuela be your blocking fullback......this kids is Monster
G-MAN.. I guessed what the 'G' stands for..Girly?
I'm hoping to go to Glendora either Thursday and Friday to interview Pasquarella and a couple players. I'll put a video up before the weekend.
NO McD....COVINA 3-7
Joe Colt,
You are correct is all come down to Olivas. It really come down to the O-Line. The have to do there job and protect Olivas. He has looked pretty good in practice. I told my son he better do his job and protect his QB. I will for more worst things, than his coach will do if he allows a sack. We still have spped on defense and speed on offence. Covina will get the job done.
Big Daddy,
Covina has the pieces in place to do some damage, but in my opinion its all going to come down to how well Olivas does under center.
The skill players are solid as usual, key varsity returners with Nick and Arius who seem to be flying under the radar for some reason.
The D line shouldnt have much drop off either, we graduated Parker and Dones but still have Jazz and Shorts so there isnt much concern there either.
Taking a look at O line I believe there are a couple of returners there also, your sons included.
Our kicking game cost us big last year and can only improve in my opinion, I dont think we kicked one field goal all year.
Special teams, jury is out on that one, we did graduate alot there and I have no idea whats coming.
So with all of the above taken into consideration Covina will stack up as usual, again it is all going to come down to the QB Olivas and how he responds under pressure with the pads on. If he does well we go into CIF at 9-1 or 8-2, thats my prediction.
If he folds under pressure be prepared for a very long season and no run into CIF, we will go 2-3 in VVL without anyone to get the ball to our speedsters. Just being honest even though I am Covina Homer, Olivas has to get the job done.
Joe Colt
DEE DEE......babo?? WTF is that?....typical glendora backer......I dont know whats worse the people like DEE DEE from glendora or farm people from idaho?.......well the name sticks for DEE DEE and Glendora...can you spell DEE-FEATED AGAIN THIS YEAR!
Hey Freddy,
See what I mean? It's not even a real Glendora thread and there's a lot of Tartan banter going on. Come check out the boys and give us your low-down and you'll see the keyboards light up!
The good news on injuries is that I didn't see more than one or two guys not in pads yesturday. Some of the guys with "issues" are maning up and workin hard anyway. The other nice surprise was the distance that both of our kickers were getting on kickoffs/FG's. We're not talking all-world here but a definate improvement from last year it seems.
Hey not a MTC hater at all but lets be honest, as you have procalimed many times, you are 'brutally honest' so let's be - when talking about your feelings for the coaches no back-pedalling now. You so speak like an ex-coach but I can tell you love and know the game so I'll cut you some slack. I will give the fact that you have lightened up quite a bit but I figured that was because your main backer is now gone - YES THE BIG GUY as you so affectionately called him. Strong Aram-disliker here and I have never hidden that fact. Props to Fred for cleaning it up in such a short amount of time.
After re-reading, i do see a few, yes a few, from NV fans and i imagine they are high school guys, but big daddy PLEASE notice the Covina pop-offs. anyways, moving along, as i said it will be nice for nv to have a good season and i wish them all the best.
anonymous-
haha no hype? well obviously your a first timer on the blog....and the reason covina has been getting all the hype is because they're good. don't hate, appreciate. and your vikes may be good this year but i honestly think covina is being highly underestimated. yeah mcdonough is gone but who says jacob olivas can't step up and get the job done..and no one ever said anything about northview being a powerhouse and neither is covina. expect a dogfight on october 11, 2007. we'll see who really deserves the hype.
MTC.. I share your passion and We all should slow down and read a little slower.Peace..As for G-MAN How do you like the name ba bo?
Guys lets not fight over this issue. We will have a chance to see who is the better team on 10/11/2007. Just for the record it was Aram who said that NV would dethrown Covina this year.If you look at the other post there are NV Fans stating how the are going to whip Covina this year. I for one will reserve my comments for after the game. I truly hope that Covina wins but if not I am sure you will see one of the best games this season. As for HIM (MMCD)yes he as moved on and so has Covina. I speak with my boys everyday and there focus is on this season only. The past is the past to them. They have to make ther own destiny for this year.
Thanks Joe Amat..........
As usual you get it and took the time to actually read what I posted.
Yes, I had my share of c-zones shots….
In high school only in the Doctors office and only after treatment wasn’t getting it done. On game days with doctor present to administer and with prior parental consent. The before mentioned policy was basically the same as when I was coaching. When those shots were done they were few and far between. Liability at the high school level is also a factor, and besides you’re still dealing with young adults who are still maturing.
Now college was whole other thing.
Yeah Dee Dee you were a little over the top.
And to the “Anonymous” who posted that I have distain for “Pasqy” your just plain flat out frecking wrong man…I can’t believe some of you Clone haters you just react instead of reading what I actually have posted.
Late!
Mike the Clone
DEE DEE (double d's)Which I am sure your not coming out of Gledora.....I never said I was a Glendora blogger. G stands for lots of words but you would not know that with a a name like Dee Dee...what? your brothers named, A DEE DOO......The only DEE you sound like is DEE-MENTED!
C-TOWN, GET SERIOUS...NV NEVER, NEVER GETS THE HYPE. ALL I HAVE BEEN HEARING FOR THE LAST 2-3 YRS IS COVINA COVINA.. I HOPE NV FINALLY GETS SOME PROPS. WE ARE NOT EXACTLY KNOWN FOR A POWERHOUSE FOOTBALL TEAM SO IT WOULD BE NICE FOR A CHANGE. I AM SICK OF ALL THE COVINA HYPE -- DONE OVER, HE HAS GRADUATED. LETS MOVE ON.
Correction.. Go back down to south 'Lone Hill"
ALERT!! G-MAN is a poser..not from Glendora. How many times are you going to come on this blog? Go back down to south valley center where you belong and stay there.
northview - covina......what can i say? northview's got all the hype and covina's being underestimated. how is that if the vikings did nothing last year.....covina's the one with the target on them. expect them to go above and beyond your expectations. farmer and jones? please it's more like tucker, williams, paredes, daniels, shorts, gutierrez, and the list goes on. watch out bearcats they're ready for week 0.
Not really concerned either way but when I read it, it semed MTC wanted to pounce on "IF" the coaching staff was doing anything illegal HE wanted to know about it.
MTC--don't you think Pasky knows about cortizone shots masking a more serious injury - I mean Come On, you have made it more then clear regarding your disdain for Pasky and staff and that's cool but I DOUBT the staff would be that careles. IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE W'S IS IT?
MTC maybe I was a little hasty with my comment. Why dont you share a story or two on how you witnessed or heard of cortizone shots at the high school level. Is this a unheard epidemic? Hey Freddy, maybe here is a story for you thats been waiting to be told.
Tartan,
We won the Los Osos lineman competition. Big FN deal!...what good is it if you blow games because of Pasqy and your O cannot put points on the board. Redland kicked your A--.....your team is not as good as you make it out to be....injury injections now....for christ sakes whats glendora coming to?
hey mike i think you just found your new glendora punching bag in dee dee
Freddy...
Where the hell are the rest of the practice visits and team previews? You chose Gladstone, South Hills and Amat and that's it? No LA? No Charter Oak? No Glendora? No Covina?
Come on brotha...We all win if you visit more schools. You get familiar with the area and we get the info we're looking for.
Joe Amat,
trigger happy bloggers who preach hate will run with a MTC comment like this (even though we all understand it to be only a warning) and start rumors which are far from the truth. I just ask absolute caution when discussing things like this so words don't take on wings.
the covina and northview rivalry is more than just a rivalry. it pits future prisoners and convicts together on the same field. meanwhile, a number of the future pizza boys and girls cheer from the stand.
Easy on MTC!
Not spreading rumors OR assuming anything.
He said "...if it's going on at "Bagpiper U" (which I don't think or know of that being the case)..."
Having been in the trenches and seeing (now I'm assuming:) his share of locker room C-Zone shots it sounded like MTC was expressing concern and passing along the valuable info that it can hide an injury and make things worse.
MTC have you been hanging out with G-Man? Every village has an idiot. How did Glendora end up with two?
Mike the Clone,
Please re-read the post. NOBODY said the player is getting cortizone shots in the locker room without the parents consent! This is a medically supervised situation, with the parents consent, the injury is none with medical supervision and approval. We are not talking about a back alley abortion and please be careful not to broadcast an assumation which is not accurate.
Thanks,
going with the covina - northview rivalry. regardless of records, exciting things happen at their games. a viking always bleeds black and gold blood, it never leaves us.
Any kid getting C-Zone shots in the locker room at this level with out the parents consent is total non-sense and should be stopped. And if it's going on at "Bagpiper U" (which I don't think or know of that being the case) I want to know about it.
C-zone can mask a suttle injury and turn it into a disaster.
Out!
Mike the Clone
Tartan Pride... I've seen kids practice all the time when they are not 100%. It depends on the injury, other than that, your post is correct.
Pomona vs. Ganesha for Gangsta Game of The Week
G-Man I assume you are an adult since the kids are at practice now. Per your question, I dont know the ones your talking about. Please elaberate.(sp?) Nobody, not in pads right now is faking an injury. You are full of crap. Please dont affiliate with Glendora. You are an embarasment to this town.
It does happen everywhere, however, I would not consider it the norm. I don't know about other schools, but Coach P will not allow players to practice unless they could give 100%. He is also smart enough to know that the game is where you win or lose, why chance knocking a injured starter out of the season. He will allow these players to see the trainer and ice up, massage or apply heat during the practice to perserve his gamers for game time. Early season injuries, some extremely severe, are very common at Glendora.
It's not a case of being out of shape. These guys weight train and run all year. A early first place at the Los Osso Lineman Comp pretty much sums up the shape the big men are in.
No, it's really a matter of how hard these guys practice. They practice like nobodys position is locked in. And truthfully, with Coach P., that's the way it is.
Don't all high schools have trainers? I know Co has one of the best in the valley, and believe me she can spot the injuries that are only present at practice..Or the pulled hamstring that happened a week ago but it was ok to run yesterday..I think all coaches should should set the standard if you can't practice you can't play..Lets see how many coaches put recpect for the players who show up on time for every practice before pride.
Well then they should get into better shape. Ok back injury and foot injury etc. You know the ones I am talking about. It is at all HS .......the Stars of the team with the EGO the size of a football field that think they can pull out of practice and f-off on the sideline knowing they are going to start....some of these players are acting like babies and know that real footballs player play thru the pain and get over it..some of these guys just do not suck it up and keep going. Come game day tho after the reserve player has practiced everyday the kick back starter gets to play...BS with that miraculous recovery....not just at Glendora but all HS....are there Many at the other HS that bloggers can chime in about...IT GOES ON DONT PLAY DUMB TO IT.
G-Man~
That was a little off base with your assertion that all pre-season injuries, which don't result in a cast or sling, are players trying to get out of running. While that may be the case in some players, to say all players is broad brushing and doesn't reflect realilty.
Regarding Glendora defense injuries, From what I have been told, there is a back injury (requiring cortisone shots), hamspring, foot injury and sholder injury. All should be well enough by first game. These guys practice hard and play hard. They don't like sitting on the sideline. These guys are gamers, they want to be in the game whether it's practice, scrimage or under the lights.
There are lots of players claiming injury but you bet your a-- come the week of the game they have made a miraculous recovery. it is called pacing themselfs and getting out of all the running and hell week the coaches are putting them thru........some take breaks some do not.......the good players are the ones that pull this knowing their postion is secure...it is done all the time....unless you are walking around in a sling or cast then it is legit..I dont believe allot of the injuries the players claim this time of year when they are walking around f'ing around.
Walnut vs Nogales for the toilet bowl game.
word on the street
several key glendora defensive players are out injured and others are playing injured. nothing really serious though.
does anybody know which players? will they be back for game time?
BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST RIVALRIES AROUND WOULD BE THE UPCOMING "MAYORS TROPHY" REMATCH AGAINST GLENDORA AND CHARTER OAK. CO WILL BE SEEKING REVENGE AS GLENDORA BEAT THEM LAST SEASON. THESE TWO TEAMS USE TO PLAY EACH OTHER EVERY YEAR UNTILL ANGER AND HOSTILITY OF THIS CROSSTOWN RIVALRY ENDED THE YEARLY GAMES. LAST YEAR's GAME WAS THE FIRST IN MANY SEASONS. GLENDORA BEAT THE CIF FINALIST AND TEMPERS OF REVENGE WILL RUN RAPID AT THIS SEASONS REMATCH.
BOTH TEAMS WILL BE PLAYING WITH, WHAT MANY HAVE SAID TO BE, THE BEST DEFENSES IN THE VALLEY. CERTAINLY NOT A GAME TO MISS!
EDGE TO GLENDORA TO BEAT CO AGAIN. I HAVE WATCHED BOTH TEAMS PRACTICE. GLENDORA'S DEFENSE IS EVERYTHING WHICH HAS BEEN REPORTED... DEVASTATING AND RAVAGING. SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET HURT OUT THERE! BETTER FEED THE ANIMALS BEFORE GAME TIME.
The Glendora Damien rivalry is a pretty big one.
As a recent graduate of Glendora i ALWAYS hated Damien
but now i'm good friends with Damien guys, and i am actually going to college with some of them.
I actuallly lost friends from Glendora because i am friends w. some of the
"star athletes" from Damien.
i think its immature and i love having school spirit and supporting Glendora, but some people take it too far,
by the way...that Glendora vs. Damien Basketball game from last season that we won was def. a classic.
Spartan 4 Ever,
Should be - but won't be.
You would have to *play* us every year for it ever to be considered a rivalry.
Unfortunately, amat is destined to develop no rivalries in the SGV for that very reason.
SOUTH HILLS -vs- West Covina
yes Dan Same City but it's The Huskies Street ! The Kings of Cameron!
Hey Guys,
What about Damien vs. Amat? Two catholic schools in the same valley. Enough said!
amat is done, good luck to wagner and dominique and any one left from the class of 08,look at your top school in the valley they all have players from amats power house class of 08
NEW---
Watch the Diamond Ranch---Charter Oak Game, very close last year , and you must give respect to both teams, players as well as coaches..
I have to go with Charter Oak vs Los Altos but have read posts in here about other rivalries and now I want to see those games too.

the same city and on the same street.

ALL FOUR GAMES SUPER RIVALRIES...NOT TO MISS!
ya that LA vs wilson is pretty good 2. wit the excetion like someone said of wilson getting crushed almost every year. good crowds tho
SAD BUT TRUE...You say something negitive about someone. then they defend themselves and you call that 'baiting'? You need therapy.
SAD,
No we just like to toy with people like you of a lesser mind and give the thrill of your life thinking you got over on us. Now go back in your hole and ponder your next move.
Hook, line, and sinker...
You amat honks are classic. Easiest fans to bait in the whole of Socal.
Being that I am a Northview alumni, we still all go to the games and then head to Friday's afterwards. It totally has that small-town feel and you look forward to it all week, hell all year. good Luck to Northview and what a treat it was following the baseball team and checking out all the alums that came and followed - yeah we do NOT need to hear about the loss. Good
luck to all. Have fun guys - it goes fast.
Yes most of the rivalries are pretty good. But how can you beat a cross town rivalry. The same city, you get to own the city title for the year. Covina vs Northview or South Hills vs West Covina. You bang heads with you childhood friends. If your school wins, no matter how the season goes you can still talk all the trash you want. Nothing gets better than that.
SAN DIMAS VS BONITA IS A HOT RIVALRY!!NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. STANDING ROOM ONLY, IT IS A AWESOME GAME TO
VISIT JUST ONCE!
Being a RHS Panther , we would wait ALL year for the Arroyo game .Sad to say in all my four years we beat them only once , the winner was ALWAYS the MVL champ . Much respect to Coach McKinnon .

AMAT vs ST PAUL
It get no better than this. There is just bad blood between us and it goes back along way. As for SAD you must be one of those types that just waits on pins and needles to extract anything about AMAT and twist it to your liking to make it come out bad because if you knew anything about AMAT no opponent or for that matter anyone under the age of 19 in their right mind would sit in the pound . It is a zoo out there . Just kids having a great time on a Friday nite rooting their team on. Why don't you contribute and tell us who your great rivalry choice is or are you ashamed of your alma mater that much.
Feeling lots of love in the room boys....
Fred we all know its WEST COVINA and South Hills.
I like it how the player from West Covina stay off the blogg and dont talk trash like some other schools. GO BULLDOGS.... Hey Dan who ever you are whats up... and keep up the good inside stuff..... WEST COVINA ALL THE WAY>>>>
Yeah I'll be there, my boys are on the team. If I wasn't there, they will beat me down. Yes they were close games, I was just stirring the pot a little.
Tommy,
That's what this is all about. I have to think with my heart. No matter what I hope that the Colts win. I hope that they can pull off the upset. I know that there is alot of Pride in that Colt team. I am in the real world,I just step out of it from time to time.
BIG DADDY???......Uhhhhhhh, when did I ever say that we "beat Covina down"? I think my direct quote was that the last 3 years were "exciting, close, and created much discussion". However your claim of Covina "dominated us in every game" is laughable. Took time out from my busy schedule to look up last year alone. Score = 28-14 Total yards = GL-332 Cov-225 (Max Preps) and YES turnovers 3 to 1 in Glendora's favor (last I checked, that was part of being a good team). Anyway, no disrespect to Covina. The games have been very fun and you're a well coached team. Looking forward the Sept. 7th at Citrus College. You gonna be there Big Daddy?
CO Bro
I know you were messing with me, I really am looking forward to that game on your turf.
CO Bro your a good man!
Mike the Clone
Fred,
There is no better rivalry than Amat vs St Paul slime. Youve got to be there for that one.It was ranked as one of the best rivalries in the country a few years ago. Its the homecoming game this year for Amat and it should be standing room only as usualy. You wont see any harder hitting than in this game.

CO Bro,
Come on now...
Just messing wit u MTC! We can grab a brew @ Referees Pub after the game.
LA vs Damien is starting to become a rivalry especially after Damien could have easily won last years game if it wasnt for the end zone fumble by the running back
Big Blue"
Don't assume that LA may be the only school that hates ba in the SGV. And it's not the kids that play for ba that are disliked, it's the myopic, honk, supporters like yourself, that everyone wishes would go away.
Sadder,
If it is not the kids then why do you and others come on here and bash what they are doing on the football field.?
Big Daddy..What stats are you looking at? What causes turnovers. Did Glendora barely win these games? NO. Covina is a great school with a great program. Try and stay in the real world with the rest of us and good luck to Covina this year. Think with your head and not your heart. (quoted by MTC)

Sadder, not going away for you or anyone else. I am myopic and a honk... funny thing is you are just like me one yourself but you dont recognize it. heck we all are or we would not be on this blog.......Myopians are what make sports and blogs....grow some sacks sadder and stop being a whining B. atch!
Hey I am going to have to chime in here -- Northview vs, Covina is the best. One team could be 9-0 and the other 0-9 and it doesn't matter - GAME ON. We started out together as Covina Vikings (youth football), then Las Palmas and Traweek taught us we had to be enemies, then step up to big bad High School. it's the one time you may be forced to sit on the "other side" cause we share a field, and which crowd can be louder and more obnoxious??? then th chick fights with the cheerleaders - oh wait that is in my fantasy.
It don't get much better - you can feel it in the air. get em Vikes - we lean like a Viking
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, In the past 3 years when has Glendora out right beat Covina. Yes you won the game, but you have never gone out and just beat Covina down. Look at the stats, Covina has dominated Glendora in every game. The Key to your victories has been turnovers. Covina has failed to hold on to the ball in key series. Now you may find this year the Covina will not be a easy win. The boys still have alot of juice left and are very focused right now. They are looking forward to the match up. You may be surprised to see, it's not the kids who left Covina, but the kids who are there now, is what makes the Colts go.
"Big Blue"
Don't assume that LA may be the only school that hates ba in the SGV. And it's not the kids that play for ba that are disliked, it's the myopic, honk, supporters like yourself, that everyone wishes would go away.
Have a nice day.
Sad,
Did I say FISTFIGHTS?......fights amongst themselfs in the end zone seats.......only Freshman and some soph. sit there and are students of BA...they fight with each other in a good natured way as they are fired up like all the rest...they are young and they have fun.........get your head out...you are Sad...very Sad.....A Conq. no doubt.
CO Bro,
Come on now...
I like the Covina game that's when you know football season has arrived. It’s a good barometer of where we are, and where we’re going. I always look forward to this game it may or may not be a rivalry but it sure gets your blood pumping.
Glendora vs. Charter Oak is the ticket I have a lot of respect for CO. And that's not because we pulled out a win last year. But "Coach Lou" is a class act. This match up is between a great coaching staff and a coaching staff still struggling to define itself. Watch the differences between the “Bagpiper” staff and the CO staff on the sidelines and you will see what I’m talking about.
The Damien vs. Glendora match up ehhhh it's ok but just not at rivalry status yet. Playing Damien is like doing laundry it's just one of those things you just have to do and when your done you hope all the stains have come out. Last year they didn't. We were still playing QB "Wheel of Fortune". If "Pasqy" would have given our offense half a chance with sticking with one quarterback and it didn't matter which one last year I feel we could have beaten Damien. Would have been close but we beat em'. That Damien loss was "Pasqy's" fault period!
Chino Hills is always playing spoiler with us so you could say it's a rivalry. That's the game you’re always holding your breath. Losing to the boys from “Got Milk” land is always a reality check besides for the whole week before that game I always have that damn “Milk Shake” song in my head….
“My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and they're like,
its better than yours,
damn right its better than yours,
I can teach you,
but I have to charge”
Go figure!
Tommy Tartan is right; "Bagpiper U" has some of the largest crowds home and away. It's pretty amazing to see south stands at Citrus packed at home games.
Now with that said let’s get this party started and good night Aram Tolegian wherever you are!

A long time ago, in an era far, far away, there existed in the SGV a league that annually offered up on a regular basis, either a runner-up or champion at the highest levels of So Cal highschool football.
Baack in the day, the old Sierra League, comprised of among others, The then West Covina Spartans, the South Hills Huskies and the Los Altos Conquerors. Through the early and mid-seventies, these three teams would vie for the league title and often the loser in the regular season would avenge that loss in the playoffs and very often go on to win the 4-A championship.
LA and CO is fun and often has post season ramifications. LA battles Wilson each year for the "Wheel" and on occasion, the Wildcats "represent" but what brings this cross-town rivalry down, is the poor visitor facilities at Wilson. I decided a few years ago not to venture over to the East side of the Heights when the game is played there.
Now this is what I'm talkin about. Covina vs Northview has to be the best. The talk has already started. The schools hate each other, it's like the North vs the South, brother vs brother. Majority of the kids between both schools have grown up toghter, played with and against one another. Best friends and enimies all on one field. This game will be the game of games this season. The boys will be playing for Pride and Bragging Rights. You will see all the blood and guts left on the field.
GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have to agree with Tommy Tartan, the Covina vs Glendora games have been good ones the last 3 years and provided the unexpected.
As far as an intense and heated rivalry you also cant beat Covina vs Northview, these games are played with heart and always have the potential for upset and explosiveness.
Joe Colt
BTW, as for fan following I havn't seen any crowd bigger than a Glendora home crowd in the Valley (except at Amat in a good year). Even our road following has matched or exceeded some of our opponents HOME crowd.
Fred,
You havn't seen nothin' yet as far as blogger interest until you go visit a Tartan practice and give us your rundown of this year's good lookin Glendora team. There were a lot of onlookers there at the evening workout Monday. I think with Glendora poised to have a solid, if not breakout year, there are 4 great rivalry games on their schedule. Yes, Damien is always the best because it's always there on the schedule and some of our boys have become their boys. With Charter Oak back on the list, that HAS to be a huge "cross-town" match-up of two very good programs with a lot of history. Football has been the one thing our smaller school brothers to the south have had on us most years, but things may be changing...maybe. Then there's Covina, who we open with for the 4th straight year. Great local matchup of a larger program that's always solid but not great against a smaller school that's been overachieving the last few years. The first 3 games were exciting, close and created much discussion. This year, will we see another in the line of, or will the larger school with a talented squad prove that they may have a banner year ahead and also show that Covina may have graduated a bit too much talent? Finally, if things go well enough for the Red & Black, their biggest game of the year (perhaps in the valley)will likely be at Chino Hills with league title implications. It's gonna be a long, tough road for these guys, but it's going to be fun to watch Pasqy and the kids play this season. Stay healthy boys and keep your focus on your next opponent.
St. Paul at Amat.
There isn't a better rivalry than this one.
I may be biased but I believe the best rivalry in the valley has to be Charter Oak vs. Los Altos. Every year the Miramonte title is decided on this game. It’s the one game we @ CO look forward to every year. But I also believe that the Charter Oak vs. Glendora will become the next big rivalry in the ESGV. I can't speak for anyone else but I have a distain for those kilt wearing bagpipers. Of course MTC has nothing to do with my feelings....

I agree with Scott on the South Hills/NV/Covina rivalries. I don't blame the principals of Covina or Northview for stopping the game. Yes, you can say you didn't want to get your a$$ kicked etc...When CIF opened the door for kids to go anywhere they wanted, there was a slew of talented kids who went or transfered to South Hills in 1-2 yrs. time that really turned the tide on whether or not, it was a level playing field anymore. I'm not here to say there was recruiting etc...but there's not a doubt that South Hills was the beneficiary of a lot of transfers in a short period of time. Once again, not putting anything on Bogan, he's been great for the sgv football scene. It's just what happened and I think it became personal with Covina because they lost some kids to South Hills.
Even though Los Altos always wins the LA vs Wilson rivalry is fun to watch. Games are always packed with the schools playing for the Heights.
N Call me crazy but I feel a little rivalry forming between Los Altos and Damien. YES Damien. The past 3-4 years the games between these teams have been close, and when they play the stands always seem to be full and the games are exciting. I know these teams always want to beat each other.
" and the fights in the end zone seats aka the pound will be rocking!"
Typical Raider mentality from our "guiding light" of the SGV.
well i would say los altos vs. wilson but los altos whips there as*ses each year
Nice photo Fred,
That picture really gets my blood pumping
GO BULLDOGS!!!
it used to be south hills, covina and south hills, northview until a couple of principals chose to end the district rivalries.
Amat/St.Paul..blood and guts war...This year's game at Amat with Homecoming on that nite...The students will go crazy and the fights in the end zone seats aka the pound will be rocking!
The Bonita-San Dimas is a great rivalry with standing room only. Alot of people having a great time and enjoying the night!
Looking forward to it this year.
Rivalries are what make sports great. There is definately an extra buzz in the air on Rivalry Friday or Rivalry Saturday for college football. I have seen a few of these rivalries and they're each special in their own ways...I like the city rivalries best because the kids and coaches know each other well and you may bump into that coach or player from the opposing team at the store etc...I like the Northview - Covina Rivalry because the schools are so close to each other.
Not too long ago, you would have South Hills-Charter Oak, on that list.
