Charter Oak with lofty expectations

| | Comments (17) |

It's always interesting when you ask coaches where they would rank themselves if they had to put together the Tribune's top ten. Both Lou and Dominic Farrar think four or five is a fair fit, and both feel Damien and Glendora should be ranked ahead of them. They know the expectations are high after winning the Miramonte and advancing to the Southwest title game. But as the father-son team explained, they still couldn't get past Glendora (14-7) and Damien (25-9) during the regular season. I don't know if I buy that argument. There isn't a team with more impact-type players returning than Charter Oak. There isn't a team with the championship experience this one has. And they have the coaching staff, which is one of the best in the SGV.
Now, if you're asking which is the tougher league, the Sierra or Miramonte, that's an argument for a different thread.
Anyway, listen to Big Lou and junior quarterback Chris Allen talk about the upcoming season.

To "toughest league in the valley",
You might want to listen more closely next time, Lou didn't say it was the toughest league in the SGV he said it was the most competitive in the SGV, there is a difference.
His point wasn't that the toughest teams in the SGV were in their league, it was that any team in that league at any given time could beat any other team in that league. as far as the SGV goes, he could be right, although the Sierra is
pretty competitive too.

Did he say that he was in the toughest league in the valley? Are you serious? Is this a joke? It has to be.

These are power house schools?

I love the valley!

But any real football fan knows that the toughest team in the Valley is Amat. Im not a big Amat fan, but I have to give Amat credit, they play Notre Dame, Crespi and Loyola. Amat represents as the only D-1 school in the Valley and they would easily dominate a less physical league like the miramonte league.

Sorry Farrar, you are a good division 6 school and a par d-2 school. What's that say about D-1?

+1 on Chris Allen and family. Terrific kid and I wish him the best this year.

Love him or hate him...you have to admit that Farrar knows how to get his team prepared to play the big game. Personally, I fall into the second category, I hate the guy. I think he's arrogant, self-serving, and rude. But then again, many great coaches are. Can't wait till he leaves and Dom takes over, at least he's not an jerk like his old man.

These Interviews/reports are great Fred, good for the SGV football scene keep up the good work.
Charter Oak looked impressive in that interview, the QB looks like he has some skills but the best thing was his humility, giving credit for to his teamates, and not appearing cocky or arrogant.
Coach Lou also spoke with class.

Joe Colt said:

You got that right Big Daddy, Chris Allen is also a great kid in general.
His Dad is a good man also, always enjoy talking to him.
I hope Chris tears it up again this year and keep in mind he is only a junior.

Chris Allen is the real deal. The kid is a out right stud. If you haven't seen him play, get out to Charter Oak. He's a great baseball player and a even better Quarterback.

Lou being humble as always....

This post rings so TRUE

I would agree with you! Coach Lou has been an "Icon" in this valley for quite sometime.

With Lou, winning is very important to him. But I would bet that the development of the individual is just as important or more!

He has deciated his life to all the Royal Oak (where it started) and Charter Oak kids for a long time. I can remember the days of playing for coach Lou and now look back and respect everything he has done for all the kids he has touched.

I don't care where you play now or who's better, because when its all said and done, were you taught the game of football and life? Do you have good memories of your playing days? Are you better for having gone through his program? Do you now realize why he was on butt if you ditched school? Is he now still your friend?

To me, HS coaches have to be teachers first and not just in the sport they coach, coaches second and someone who you want representing the community in a postitive way!

I am sure alot of these coaches are real men in there own way, and I take my hat off to all of them. Our kids will be better for your help! Sure some are not on the list, but everyone could be!

Thanks again Big Lou... I truly respect you and the job you have done over the years! Also, a big thanks goes to his wife, who has been there every step of the way!
