Last week was another case in point why picking winners in high school football games is so tough. I was able to edge Fred out, thanks in part to another strong showing by Glendora and Western Christian coming up big vs. Bloomington Christian. But we both swung and missed on Long Beach Jordan edging Diamond Bar, Mountain View stepping up to beat Azusa and Garey beating Gladstone.

Final thoughts:
This is a big week for Valley football, with two featured games – Los Altos travels to La Verne to face Damien, while Glendora goes to Covina to face Charter Oak in the battle for the Mayor Cup. All four teams were ranked in our top 10 last week. South Hills and Bishop Amat have yet to taste victory in the young season, but Claremont and Rancho Cucamonga should be what the doctor ordered this week.
