Since I can't flick on ESPN and watch highlights of our San Gabriel Valley teams, you can help by suggesting this week's football player of the week.

I think some of you schools should give some love and donate some of your varsity 2nd stringers to Bassett. They've been getting their tails kicked for so long, I'm starting to feel sorry for them. Look at it this way they would start, make some big plays and play in a multi million state of the art stadium.

Northview is a wrestling school. They do have some kick ass wreslers from what I've seen. Do all these wrestlers live in the Covina area?

ANONYMOUS said:

Northview is a Baseball school....they are just decent in football and will not play for any CIF championship this season. They will be lucky if they take their league.......I guess League Champs is still considered ok. CIF rings count and I do not see them getting far.

where is Northview high school on this poll?

upland..
Would that happen to be the same referee that didn't call 4 obivious PI or a face mask? Maybe both defense of Upland and CO should be player's of the week, they not only played each other they also had to play the referee's.They didn't allow a score for 3 1/2 quarters And wait for the streaker....

people, get a grip! you guys sound like all the jaa coaches. it is good to volunteer... but just 'cause you volunteer does not make you a coach

Well if this kid is so confused playing WR at LA why is he not sent down to JV to learn to play the WR position. LA Conq. Seems like you have an inside to the football team. I saw the kid throw one day after practice and felt why he was not given a chance. I don't know the father or the story, but he looks like a good athelete & he may be confused because he is learning to play the WR position. If someone got offended thats too bad I just feel that for LA to get deep in the playoffs they need the vertical game to open the running game wich is their strength. I'm not a coach I went on what I seen and what some players have said.

I mean the kid playing WR for LA, not QB.

Hey Freddy, saw the story this morning about South Hills. I'm glad you finally got those guys some ink, they've been so neglected this year. Ummm...Just wanna let you know that there are about 30-40 other schools in the tribune area that you could possibly cover from time to time buddy. I don't even care if it's LA, I'm just sick and tired of seeing stories about South Hills dude.

LA Conq said:

Okay, here's the truth about this kid playing QB for LA that is supposedly better than Tamayo and Tillis.

Simply put...he's not that good. These guys who are making comments about "he can make throws that Castaneda made last year" have NOOOOO idea what they're talking about. This kid has a good arm...stronger than either Tamayo or Tillis, but a strong arm by itself does not make a good QB. If that was the case they would make the TE Rodriguez the QB, he can throw the ball 70 yards.

The kid is playing WR now for the Conqs and from what I've seen...he has NO idea what he is doing on most plays. You should have seen him in the scrimmage vs. Upland and in warm-ups last friday night. He's running the wrong routes and constantly asking his coaches and fellow players what he's supposed to be doing. HOW THE HELL CAN YOU BE THE QB IF YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT ONE RECEIVER IS SUPPOSED TO BE DOING???

Still not convinced? This kid was one of the 6 or 7 kids competing for the QB spot in the spring and early summer. But his old man (probalby one of these bloggers) decided to tranfer is kid to Cantwell. HE QUIT THE TEAM FOLKS! He was gone for like a month! How can you say he was not given a chance when he was part of the QB competition and then he abandons his teammates when he's told by coaches that maybe he should look at playing another position? He's lucky Gano took his little ass back and didn't tell him to take a hike!

Please stop second guessing coaches and the decisions they make regarding players. Who the hell are you guys to think you know better than someone like Gano? Ask yourself this question...What's more likely:

1) Gano, Aguilar, Fair and all the others coaches on the LA staff are stupid, stubborn people who are purposefully not playing their best QB and are willing to compromise their team's success for...wait, was the reason they would do this again?

OR 2) You are biased or misinformed about this kid's ability and should trust coaches that see these kids perform EVERY DAY!

JBats, Rooseveltalum74...I'm willing to bet you have some connection to this kid because I've spoken to the coaches and NO ONE associated with this program thinks this kid is even close to a QB. It's sad that some people can't accept reality.

Player of the week has to go to someone from Diamond ranch!! #8 Joe Carillo, #3 Brian Spirlin,#44 Spencer Stueve,#54 Kyle Lyngel,#2 Thomas Clarkson,#12 Bryan Bonilla. Or how about their O-line, allowing the qb and running backs rush for all those yards and great pass protection. But the game had to go to the defense for stopping National recruits like Wade O'neal and Corey Harky.

Hey I also saw the L.A. game really great team too bad for the Qber situation, if they had one half as decent as last years kid they would at least be at the Semis again.

Dont get me wrong here these are two great kids and probably good little recievers in thier own right, but last years kid they are not, not even close.

The other kid at reciever is really good too bad I thinlk something is going on here he is not as good as the Qber from the last two years but he is better than these two players at that position.

Im kinda wondwering why they only want a senior at Qber right now oh well its probably nothing at this point, just seems theres a story in this somewhere.

I feel bad for the kid and his family, to know your better and have to watch from the sidelines man thats tough, ill keep hoping for that kid to at least get a shot.

john

it was their 1st game and i think LA looked good, yes they need some adjustments but nothing major!!!!

JBats said:

John, you are so right on. LA needs a QB that with a strong arm that can get the ball very quick to their TE. By the time the ball gets to the TE he has defenders on hime and can make his move down field. Regarding the Soph you are talking about he throws a nice pass but can not handle the pressure, i seen the JV game he just throws the ball away when there is pressure, that would be dissastorous on the Varsity Level. But I have heard that they have a kid that they have playing receiver and DB on Varsity that is about 6' tall and can make the throws that Matt Castaneda made last year, but the coaches won't give him a look. He can also throw the deep pass. Hope coaches give this kid a chance.

go for a pass said:

I was at the LA game and saw their reciever drop about 4 passes and even an interception. I guess if they had someone that can catch other than their TE, they would be a better team. And Rosemead was not that good. The LA defense did a great job.

LUVTHISGAME said:

Hey John, its been a while since you've been on here. I was at the LA game as well. I knew the BA game was going to be a rout so left early. I agree with most of what you said. I think the taller QB would be better for their offense. He threw to their big TE on the big pass play over the middle for about 20 yards. They actually drove down the field with him in and could of scored, but he took a knee at the end. The play you say he was stripped looked to be a busted option play(I could be wrong), but he was being tackled and went behind the back and pitched with his left to the RB and it bounced of his facemask. Pretty ballzy move. From the fence I heard LA players on the sidelines yell catch the ball. I think he'll be good.

john said:

Went to the LA game, at this point they are not the #1 team. LA still needs a QB, I see the reason that AMAT didn't give the job to either of the transferrs. One is 5-4 with not much on the ball and the other is taller but throws from the waist, got the ball stripped once. They scored some points but had to rely on the big play because they couldn't sustain a drive. LA punted way too much for the team that they were playing. The Defense looked pretty steller and McBride looked good. I sure hope that LA finds a way to get the ball in the hands of Rodriguez at least 15 times a game. The QB's couldn't make this happen, this would open some things up for McBride. I hear that they have a Sophmore that is pretty good.

Clearly a lot of Los Altos faithful on this poll. Diamond Ranch and Glendora have beaten better teams than Rosemead so far.

These polls are parents and players trying to pump their oen schools. Take the strength of schedule, record and how a team played to decide who is top in the valley.

Why not just call this entire blog page The SGV Tribune Football Blog. You'd think that football were the only sport that existed! How difficult is it to start a blog for another sport...,geesh? The content is user fed.

Gladstone HS just had a two day volleyball tournament. Can we hear a little bit about that? Would it kill you to start a blog on waterpolo or cross country. I love football as much as the next guy, but can we pretend for just a minute that other sports exist?

I may be wrong but I think every damn holding penalty was in the second half too! Each drive in the 3rd and 4th quarter C.O. would gain positive yards 1st downs, 2nd and shorts, moving the ball like the first half right down the football field and then a holding penalty would negate any forward progress and C.O. would then be in a 3rd down and +15 yards and any attempt to maintain a drive was stopped until C.O. tried to throw the ball down the middle of the field halfway through the 4th quarter the score 0-0 with 6:00 minutes left and the ball was intercepted and a 15 yard late hit penalty was added onto the turnover. A touchdown and bizarre punt later and the game was suddenly 14-0 with almost no time left on the clock...

Teams that lost, should drop down in ranking. Amat is 0-2 for God sakes and is about to be 0-3 against a top ranked Hart team. In the BCS, if you lose, you drop. USC has one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA, but if they lose they will drop down. You have to win games to be considered a top team.

i think linemen should get some caniditcy for player of the week

Brian Partida, of course. Fred Robledo can testify to that. He seemed impressed by Partida's play versus a tough Temple City team. Partida just makes the right decisions and leads his team to victory. Thats why ARROYO is going far this year. Expect big things from the KNIGHTS! Partida for Player of the Week! I mean c'mon, he did get MVP in the game of the week, so...

Someone one over there at Rosemead better teach their defense how to tackle! and their offense how to score a point on us!

Either Rosemead really sucks or LA is really really good. I think it's the latter

I also forgot about Amat, I believe they are still up there with Glendora & Los Altos despite there 2 losses, I haven't seen any of these teams play so these are just opinions like everyone else, only time will tell.

Dan said:

After writing my last post I saw the you-tube
vidieo of Los Altos, they certainly belong in the top 5, maybe up there with Glendora at 2 or 3
If that was Tamayo at QB they will be fine he looks solid back there.

Dan said:

I agree with Joe Colt
Diamond Ranch looks Impressive at this point, & #2 should go to Glendora.
I disagree with South Hills being out of the top 5 though, Trabuco Hills is a good team and are not watered down, their line won the linemans tournament that had all the big schools, and they were a semifinals team last season, and being that South Hills had two TD's called back and also lost two turnovers in the red zone [one
of those was a fumble at the 1 yard line.] thats a
possible 4 TD's they might have had, so it really sounds like the Huskies out played Trabuco Hills
but lost on their own mistakes. we'll find out in a few weeks.
Charter Oak lost to a very good program in Upland
and the score was 0 to 0 with 6 minutes left to play then the mistakes were made that cost them the game so the Chargers still look to be a strong team we'll see when they play Glendora.
Los Altos beating Rosemead doesn't tell us much
cause we don't know how good Rosemead is, I got a
feeling D.Ranch, Glendora, Amat & a few others could do the same to Rosemead, no offense to Rosemead they'll still contend for the crown in the MVL but I think the D6 teams are at another level.

Joe Colt said:

FredJ,

Based upon the game between SH and a watered down Trabuco Hills they shouldnt be ranked better than 5 or 6 until they can prove otherwise, keep in mind that too much individual talent can be a bad thing if there isnt any harmony.

Just my opinion, they have issues and should have clobbered Trabuco Hills with all that talent.

Somethings up...

Joe Colt

Joe Colt said:

Good God Fred, did you have the ask the question of who we believe is #1 and attach that LA abused poll to it?

The answer is obvious as to who is #1, Diamond Ranch at this point in the season.

They played a highly ranked Edison team and stayed in the game, then they upset Chino Hills which is also ranked highly in the state and was the IE #1.

I put DR at #1 and GHS at #2 until more games are played, Etiwanda will tell us all if the Tartans are for real this season.

Big deal los altos beat a weak rosemead team, just wait it gets tougher.

Panther Fan said:

Player of the week has to be some one from Diamond Ranch! Brian Spirlin 171 yards on 15 carries and two TD's against a team that has six players who have offers including two Naional Recruits. Joe Carrillo Almost two hundred yards in air, one throwing touchdown, almost one hundred yards on ground and two rushing touchdowns. Player of the week has to be a big time player. A big time player makes big time plays in big time games. DR was playing the #1 team in the IE and these two players had a big time game. Please get off the tip of South Hills. They lost to a D6 team. DR beat a D2 team with collegiate division 1 players. Win the game, a big game, play a better opponent, have a big time game and then nominate the "Golden Boys" from SH.
