What no SGV teams listed in the top 10 of the Inland div of the CIF rankings?

HSFBFAN,
Following your logic, no team should have any respect at this point, right? Who has been truly tested with a win?
Posted by: Anonymous | September 13, 2007 7:39 AM
In my experience usually the people that complain about the rankings are the ones that don't have their team in them!
By the way that comment I read about Amat being able to go 0-10 and still beat everyone else was rediculous. What a miopian that person is.
Posted by: Andy | September 13, 2007 6:51 AM
Glendora beat a bad Covina team and Bishop Amat has not won a game yet. If Glendora can win this week than maybe they will get some respect. As for BA they have to win a game before they get respect. I don't care who they play. How many teams are in any rankings when they are Ofer.

Seven Eleven,
You called two schools in the Miramonte "horrible". What does that say about the Valle Vista? This year Bonita vs. Covina 43-14, last year Bonita vs. Northveiw 26-0. Save the hyperbole for your school pep rally.

I never even mentioned passing league. So u can get out of with that. I don't even follow passing league its so meaningless
All I'm saying is that they dnt suck or whatever u think. They always duke it out wit the best and its always close. Every game in league last year was by like 7 points or less wit the exception of LA.
Posted by: sgvpride | September 12, 2007 10:35 PM
I think Amat should be ranked higher in the standings even though they have lost their first two games. They will come back and get some W's because they are still growing and have complete faith that they will surpass everyone who doubts their competence for tradition. I wouldn't be surprised if they won the Serra league and went to CIF. Two years missing playoffs, but hey ... third time's a charm, right?
Give any other team, including Diamond Ranch, Amat's schedule and see how they compete against HARDCORE schools like Notre Dame, OLu, Crespi, and Hart, just to name a few. They would be in the same boat as Amat is, and maybe even worse...guaranteed. Don't knock Amat for its losses so far...they're just warming up.

sgvcoach hit that one right on the head---chino hills was barely a top 10 team in D2 "the I.E", they are no longer :).....we'll see what DR does at seasons end, i'll be looking for that white towel they throw so well come november.....
Posted by: randy | September 12, 2007 8:31 PM
You guys are grasping. Chino Hills is no where near the IE #1. The Sierra League is down this year in comparison to the rest of the leagues. Corona Centennial, Norco, Los Osos, sound more like #1 type teams to me. Any of them would beat and or have beaten Chino hills. Don't get too excited. I know Chino Hills looks really good compared to the overall talent in the SGV but they do not come close to the Riverside/ Corona area schools overall. Redlands, Colton, Kaiser are some others.

your missing the point, panther fan saying beating la last wasnt a fluke , and im saying not being able to score inside 5 yard on 4 plays isnt one either, my point is these things happen, panther fan thins if goes good 4 them not a fluke but if goes bad must be a fluke, im not bad mouthing dr ranch at all, they were last year and prob this year a very good team, but there are a lot of good teams around, not sure why everyone bashes la, co, and sh, for being good strong programs year after year.

Conq fan,
Like you said we'll see in a few weeks, we can all come up with our theories and reasons for our predictions but as we all know, they mean nothing until the teams step on the field and face each other, as meaningless as these rankings and predictions are they sure are a lot of fun though.
Steve R. & Fred, its all in fun, but I'll play devils advocate and point out that Los Altos & Glendora did do what they were supposed to do and
shouldn't be punished for it, but think of it more as a "just reward" for D.Ranch not just doing what they were supposed to do but going way above & beyond what they were expected to do.
All I know is that in week 0 I expected D.Ranch
to lose by 30 or more points to a powerhouse like Edison, but instead they kept it close and played right with them, then the next week I expected C.Hills to beat D.Ranch by 10 to 14 points but instead D.Ranch looked for real with their suprise win over the Huskies, we'll see
how disipline the panthers are this week, we'll see if they have any kind of let down, I don't know much about this San Diego team, how good are they?

WCC Parent, if you are looking academics first you cannot do better then a school like Webb in Claremont. 90% of Webb students attend college at schools in the US News top 10%. Webb competes at the same level athletically as Western Christian, neither of whom are anywhere near Bishop Amat athletically. You can check out the school at Webb.org.

I think you guys are missing out by not reporting more on our local small private schools.....Western Christian has an OUTSTANDING defense this year and I believe will do well when it comes to league play in their division.
They are not a big name like Bishop Amat, but they don't recruit and they build with what they have. They have boys who can and will go onto play football at the collegiate level....
You are missing out by not checking them and giving them thier dues!!

They also had Farmer from Northview and the kid that plays center for Amat right now. Thats what happens when you let DADS coach their own kids. Also what happened to the kid they called X , I think his name was Xavier Baltazar and Michael Arreola (his dad was apice of work.) banned for the throw the ball at his son for missing a tackle...do you know where they ended up playing their HS ball? knuckleheads his putting it lightly those guys were so diorganized.

Weekly rankings are fun and fun is what HS football is supposed to be, regardless of what Coach Herman Boone might say! The completely arbitray way in which the pre-league games are determined makes pre-league rankings a crap-shoot at best. This is also fun, but this weeks poll will be out-of-sight-out-of-mind when league play starts and especially when the play-off pairings are announced.

Re: Top 10 Poll
This list is comical at best. Northveiw ranked #7 (please!). West Covina, Bonita, and Wilson would all light up Northveiw. I saw the Vikings get smoked at the Bonita Tourney by Charter Oak's back-up QB. It's early in the football season and reality is nowhere to be found. Also, Damien at #6 (LOL). The Spartans are BIG and deep. They lost to St. John Bosco, a traditional so cal powerhouse. What would SJB do to South Hills. Damien can and will beat those teams listed above them this year. Here is my list: 1. Diamond Ranch 2. Bishop Amat 3. The Rest (get a quality win please).
Posted by: Lucky | September 12, 2007 6:54 AM
WC Bruins JAA, The coaches of those jaa teams were (are) knuckleheads. They had Tamayo, McBride, Robles, Tucker, and I believe Bradford Ray, and won nothing! I don't believe you can base anything on who played what at that level
Posted by: Anonymous | September 12, 2007 6:08 AM
Everyone talks about how good they are and who they could beat, but never put these teams on their schedule. Diamond Ranch puts the best of the best on their schedule and don't say a word. Could have beat Edison, but atleast played them tough. Then beat Chino Hills convincely! Division 1 CIF champ and then Sieera League Champs. Next Week Division 5 CIF Champ Christian HS. Two weeks later Oaks Christian CIF and State Champ. Who else in the league has the guts to play these teams? Who else can hold their own or beat these teams? Not scheduling one tough team, but we are talking week after week. Only DR! Who is the best in the SGV. The only team doing something truely worthy is Diamond Ranch!
Posted by: Panther Fan | September 12, 2007 2:20 AM
EXCELLENT!
Rankings are not always based on who can beat who, if they played. My opinion of ratings are always a balance between talent level and a reward for having a great season. It's the same in the Top 25, where sometimes a 5-5 SEC or Pac-10 team is unranked, but a small-conference team, like say Marshall, that is 10-0 gets ranked.

Dan, I'm not dropping Los Altos and Glendora behind Diamond Ranch just because of Diamond Ranch's big win, and it was big. Los Altos did everything they were supposed to do, and so did Glendora. They crushed teams they were supposed to crush. How can you penalize them for doing what's expected of them. I already had both ranked ahead of DRanch to begin with, so I see no reason to drop them yet.
Posted by: FredJ | September 11, 2007 10:53 PM
First... Oscar Robles is a true junior and only 16 or maybe 17 y/o so enough on the held back theory.
Second... I think highly of LA but DR should without a doubt be the areas #1, anyone else think they could hang with Edison and then beat the IE #1 in Chino Hills?
You guys out there may say yes but there is no way and you know it.
Joe Colt
Posted by: Joe Colt | September 11, 2007 10:29 PM
Dan,
These are Fred's ratings, but I agreed with the rankings. Diamond Ranch proved its worth big time by staying close to Edison and beating a very good Chino Hills team, and they were rewarded with a No. 3 ranking. But I believe that since Los Altos and Glendora began the week rated higher than DR and both had convincing victories, they have to continue to be rated ahead of them. Now if Glendora or Los Altos struggled against their opponents, then you might have DR leap frog them, but not after both won easily.

Conq.Fan,
well enough, nothing is obvious at this point,
as much as Chino Hills has been hyped we still don't really know how good they are, but I'm willing to bet they would beat most if not all of the others on the SGV list. As for D.Ranch vs Edison, Edison beat San Clemente by about the same margin this week, San Clemente is supposed to have one of their better teams this year & in
recent years they usually eliminated the best of the Baseline or Sierra league in the playoffs.
After these two games, D.Ranch appears to be on par with the likes of San Clemente, if so thats a pretty high caliber team.

For starters, top 10 standings are a bit ridiculous when you have ten schools playing on different levels. For those who support South Hills or Los Altos, good for you. But you cannot base the performance of these schools all in the same league, because that is just being ignorant and biased to the athletic programs of these schools.
For one, South Hills is a good school. HOWEVER, it is often overrated; yes, they can win and yes, they show great talent, but so do many other schools. To say that South Hills is one of the "greater teams now in SoCal" is a bit much. Many other schools have "standout" players just like South Hills and its sad that we do not acknowledge them...but we acknowledge many players from South Hills, i.e. Dorian Wells - great player, yes. BUT he is not the best player out there, and there is too much hype about his performance. He has much talent right now, but is he cut out to play in college or even the NFL? If not, shouldn't we stop putting so much pressure on athletes, such as Wells, to perform to the highest expectations we have set for them? Because we all know when they don't perform to these expectations, everyone is on their back...and we continually forget that these kids are just KIDS. Let them play the games they love without having to worry about the controversy.
Once again, it is hard to compare these teams because they all perform on different levels of skill. How do you compare the performance of a Division 1 team to that of a Division 4 team? The answer is you can't. Despite all our best efforts or opinions, it is not fair to put these schools on a scale. If a Division 1 Team, such as Amat, loses one week, it is not equal to compare that loss to a win of a lower division school. I am not being biased nor am I favoring one school over another. The plain old truth is that it is unfair to judge these teams, rank them, and then compare all on the same level...whether they're a div. 1 or div. 3 team.
That's just my opinion. Sorry if people will eat me up for saying that, but hey...I love the game just as much as the next person, so please don't take offense.

" after a defeat over a way overrated etiwanda team" does not mean a victory. Sorry to nitpick folks but glendora fan is getting out of control. Glendora kids look good, glendora fan doesn't. DAN....nothing is OBVIOUS at this point, yes diamond ranch played tough teams and yes they even beat one of them, but mentally kids get upo those type of games and playing rosemead just wont do that for some kids....no i dont believe LA is the best team in the valley (there are just to many question marks) they did pitch a shutout but the also struggled mightly on offense. If the coaches dont find a way to ge the ball in the hands of 84 and 1 then they are going to be in trouble, getting it to 5 is easy, (hand it off)....but between the TE and number 1 they are in a predicament they havent been in in awhile, trying to make the players and the QB adjust to them when they should be finding a wayto get 1 the ball other than punts and Kickoffs and getting the TE the ball by flanking him out (it seems as though hes the only guy that can catch. the thing about Diamond Ranch is that you just dont know which team youre gonna get week in and week out, they looked like worldbeaters last year at LA but then did nothing else.....its only WEEK ONE people these rankings shouldnt come out till like week 5 or 6.....its gonnn be a fun season

I'm suprised you don't see it Fred,
Diamond Ranch hung tough with D1 power Edison
then they prove it was no fluke by beating Chino Hills who is one of the best teams in the Inland Empire by a score of 42 to 28, Los Altos looks
good but you have to remember they played Rosemead, big diffrence between Rosemead & Edison & Chino Hills. I'm not a fan of D.Ranch or Los Altos but its obvious that D.Ranch is the best team at this point of the season.

Los Altos is really that good. They shut out Rosemead and will do the same on Friday to Long Beach Wilson. Isnt that what a good defense is suppose to do. Their defense is stacked with seniors who will do the job. They also would have beat Upland (scrimmage lost 3-4) if it werent for some of their starters watching from the bench. It's going to be a good season for LA. Just sit back and watch.

Analysis: Wells' arrival vaults South Hills into a whole different class. As you all know, I've ranked South Hills No. 1 in the SGV and believe they are the favorite to win the Southwest Division. But before Wells' arrival, you could make an argument for Charter Oak or Los Altos to hold such expectations. Now, South Hills easily ranks with some of the top teams in SoCal. I truly mean this. It's not crazy anymore to project an undefeated season, and if that happens, then what about a state championship bowl game?
Trubuco Hills beat you at home and La Habra is waiting for you. I just do not see So.Hills as all that...Dorian Wells the karma is getting you now....what a mistake to think you were bigger than Amat and it's rules.
Posted by: by ARAM | September 11, 2007 5:02 PM
1. Dorian Wells, South Hills - Who else, right? I stand by it, on any team, Wells is the best player in the SGV. Just so happens he plays receiver (mostly). Personally, I don't think it's a coincidence Wells ended up at South Hills. There's probably no other place in the Valley that he'd be showcased better. Wells will be the No. 1 target for whomever is under center. The stats should follow, as should the wins. South Hills projects for a 14 game season and I'd expect Wells' stats to benefit greatly from that. After this year, we'll see Dorian on Saturdays.

To think Oscar Robles played behind Junior Tamayo in JAA....this Robles kid has come along way and deserves all the praise he is getting right now. Tamayos Dad coached so Robles took to the back burner. Funny how the tide turns, altho Tamayo is starting at Los Altos he had to leave Amat to get there, Robles on the other hand is just a junior, I wonder if he is in the one year held back program which makes him a a little older as a junior and he should be rightfully a senior right now>?

I didn't know Los Altos lost a game. Is this a typo?
