Steve Ramirez and Fred J. Robledo going head-to-head throughout the season.

Records:
Robledo: Last week (18-6); Season (30-7)
Ramirez: Last week (17-7); Season (26-11)
Notes: What a tough week to pick football games. Ramirez and I both missed Duarte beating Monrovia, St. John Bosco knocking off Damien, and Trabuco Hills over South Hills. I called the Upland over Charter Oak and Ramirez called West Valley over Bonita, but where I edged him out for the week was picking El Monte over Sierra Vista.

Thursday's games
Northview vs. Walnut at Covina District Stadium, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Northview), Ramirez (Northview)
Glendora vs. Etiwanda at Colony HS, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Etiwanda), Ramirez (Glendora)

Friday's games
South Hills at La Habra, 7 p.m. - Robledo (La Habra) , Ramirez (La Habra)
La Mirada at Charter Oak, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Charter Oak), Ramirez (Charter Oak)
West Covina at Baldwin Park, 7 p.m. - Robledo (West Covina), Ramirez (West Covina)
Claremont at Damien, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Damien), Ramirez (Damien)
Ontario Christian vs. Covina at Covina District Stadium, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Covina), Ramirez (Ont Christian)
Long Beach Wilson at Los Altos, 7:30 p.m. - Robledo (Los Altos), Ramirez (Los Altos)
Canyon at Bonita, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Canyon), Ramirez (Canyon)
Bishop Amat vs. Hart at Canyon, 7:30 p.m. - Robledo (Hart), Ramirez (Hart)
El Segundo at Duarte, 7 p.m. - Robledo (El Segundo), Ramirez (Duarte)
Glenn at Wilson, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Wilson), Ramirez (Wilson)
San Dimas at Montclair, 7 p.m. - Robledo (San Dimas), Ramirez (San Dimas)
Montebello at Rowland, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Rowland), Ramirez (Rowland)
California at El Monte 7 p.m. - Robledo (California), Ramirez (California)
Jordan at Diamond Bar p.m. - Robledo (Diamond Bar), Ramirez (Diamond Bar)
Azusa at Mountain View, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Azusa), Ramirez (Azusa)
South El Monte at Pioneer 7 p.m. - Robledo (Pioneer), Ramirez (South El Monte)
Ontario at Nogales, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Ontario), Ramirez (Ontario)
Warren at Arroyo, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Arroyo), Ramirez (Arroyo)
Bosco Tech vs. Workman at St. Matthias HS, 7 p.m. - Robledo (BTech), Ramriez (BTech)
Cantwell-Sacred Heart at Bassett, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Cantwell), Ramirez (Cantwell)
Garey at Gladstone at Citrus College, 7 p.m. - Robledo (Gladstone), Ramirez (Gladstone)

Saturday's game
El Cajon Christian vs. Diamond Ranch at Ganesha, 7 p.m. - Robledo (DRanch), Ramirez (DRanch)
Bloomington Christian vs. Western Christian at Citrus College, 7 p.m. - Robledo (BloomChristian), Ramirez (West Christian)

Final thoughts: If I'm right, South Hills is 0-2 after what will probably be another close loss at La Habra. This is what happens when you play a tough schedule. Nothing wrong with it, Huskies will bounce back and still win the San Antonio, but from a SGV swagger standpoint, losing your two opening games hurts. Also expect Damien to bounce back big as well as Charter Oak. They won't be losing this week. Also think West Covina will throw the Mater Dei video tape in the trash and handle Baldwin Park. Also hoping Diamond Ranch doesn't stumble on Saturday against El Cajon Christian after last week's big win. In fact, that game is at Ganesha, so hopefully SGV fans will turn out to see for themselves how good this team really is. Oh yeah, picking against Duarte again this week. I'm 0-2 picking the Falcons, so that has to change.

You sound like a know it all. AND you have zero credibility.

"For your information i played football for a division 2 school in the OC but live in SGV . Varsity three years, so i know what i am talking about."

Al Bundy also scored four touchdowns in the city championship but I wouldn't have him coach RBs or give a seminar on running the football.

"i continue to support Bishop Amat no matter what downfalls that may occur."

The kids know you are no supporter.

Watcher thats all you are,

This must have been your very first post on here..congratulations on keeping up with whats going on in Prep football. You say that you had been coaching for 20 years. wow, great achievement. What exactly were you coaching, water polo? For your information i played football for a division 2 school in the OC but live in SGV . Varsity three years, so i know what i am talking about. I was also involved in coaching afterwards as well. Now about your childish comment about playing MADDEN08...cmon are you serious? thats a comment kids make to each other. someone of your supposed caliber should make more intelligent comments, no?
I am not a part of any problem. i continue to support Bishop Amat no matter what downfalls that may occur. I am just giving my opinion on what i see. If that bothers you, then maybe you shouldnt be on this site reading my blog. If you cant take criticism well, how in the world were you a coach for 20 years. I agree with you that there is improvement in the other schools programs. i.e. LOS ALTOS, SOUTH HILLS ETC. i have seen some of their practices as well. Now about your comment regarding IGLESIAS...i dont think he should start because he's a senior. If you read my previous blogs, i constantly said that from his performance throughout he should have the starting role. He hasnt even had a chance to showcase anything at all. We will see with time if that changes. I was a coach as well so i know and see the potential in many of these players.

Great comments, all. I am not certain what happened to Patricio or Markham; my direct involvement with the school began later. Anyway, I refuse to place any faith in the rumors that surround them.

I definitely agree with Jastrab: we miss men of Rogers' calibre. This goes back to my original point. The school's current leaders do not have sufficient character, charisma, or long-term vision. Jastrab mentioned Loyola and Servite in the context of balancing a great athletic program with high academics. It's a shame that in 2007, Amat does not seem up to this challenge. Our kids deserve better.

That said, let's hope for the best this Friday.

I don't know about Patricio getting fired for hitting a student, but I left in 84 so it must have been in 85 (84 football year). He had a temper, so I don't see it as impossible. I thought Markham left because of the culture.

I don't think many people liked him and he had this wacky premise of only having 25 to 35 guys on varsity. We played him when he was with Colton and he had like 30 guys on Varsity. He originally created the JV when they also had a sophomore team so he could take all the 2nd and 3rd string varsity and get rid of them. At Colton he must have had 10 to 12 guys going both ways.

I will give him credit for getting rid of those practice uniforms Amat used for games. Patricio must have thought we were Penn State with the white on white away uniforms with virtually no color.

I think Amat really misses guys like Coach Rogers who could take a bunch of guys and have a great defense. I don't ever recall getting beat like Amat has in the past few years. We lost to Servite with their nationally ranked 82 team 36 - 0 or something like that and I thought Patricio was going to die.

Amat insider,

If you are referring to Hemingway, I am not sure if he is the problem. He accepted my transfer my freshman year with some problems and seemed intent on bringing back Amat's football program. Father Hill just left and Hemingway allowed Patricio to run the program his way including the numerous F bombs anywhere on campus. I did not have to deal with this extra layer of president above the principal, but is all seems from an administrative perspective to add nothing to the school.

You can run a great program and have great academics (i.e. Loyola, Servite) for example. I guess times have changed, but I don't remember any kids parent lobbing or tying to "dad off" to coach Patricio as he probably would have to the dad to take off and take your kid.

Jastrab,

This kid you are referring to is #2 Isiah Bowen, looks like he came from WA area as listed on the program. He's built like a linebacker and is only a junior, I havent' seen him make any big plays yet. However, I was impressed by him taking a neck breaking NFL type hit by an OLU LB after a reception. He got up like nothing, so you know he can take a hit. Hopefully he will have a productive season and finish his senior year at Amat.

As an Amat insider, may I suggest that many of our current problems reflect long-term structural flaws. One can blame our coaches, our parents, or our kids, but, ultimately, responsibility for our lack of success (and our lack of morale) goes to our administration. Our fall from grace comes down to two people: the priest and the principal.

Just a fan,

While it been a long time, the Parades I remember from 80 to 84 (my years at Amat) was our AD and did not coach much or at all. I think Amat took the cheap route when the Markum (sp) experiment did not work out and the allowed him to coach Amat. I liked Parades, but I don't recall him being much into our program and his football knowledge was limited. I gather after I left he had some success, but to say he was great seems a bit of a stretch.

If you have ever been around Amat and understand the culture so much of their talent is predicated on how teams do 5 to 10 years earlier when kids are in 3 grade through 8 grade. Parades inherited some great talent that was influenced by Patricio and the upturn in the program in the early 80's. Not to say he did not know what he was doing, but he also was a part of the famous or infamous "second round jinx" which many teams starting the season ranked 1st in the pre-season Big Five/D1 poll only to fall in the second round. The must have gone 11-1 four or five times.

Things may be different today, but Amat needs to buckle down give one of these guys some time. I grew up down the street from a guy who had some good years at USC and had they ran him out of town ..well that is now USC history

BTW..what is the 411 on that kid that is 6'3" 220 and playing SS or DB. Can he play? He is listed as coming from WA. Is he a transfer?

My brother played OL that year .You guys had some GREAT TEAMS , Davis was a GREAT COACH . As far as SIZE ....I thought Schurr was pretty big .But compared to my playoff opponenets , you were TINY . We played Cajon & Apple Valley , MID 80's. NOW THAT WAS B I G .

I played for a man named Ken Davis. This man knew how to motivate & get the most out of his kids. We were'nt very big in size & can still remember Hart laughing at us as we lined up against them ! Ken Davis was the spitting image of Lou Holtz. They were'nt laughing after we beat them twice for the league title. Coaching makes a big difference & this is what is lacking at Amat right know. ( I am know an Amat Dad ! ). BTW, I grew up & played with a guy named Ruben Solorio ? I beleive he was/is a coach also at Upland along with another former teamate Richard Kim & Ex coach Ben Negrete. Do u know them ?

Senior Yr - Varsity Foothill League Champs ( beat Hart Again ! ), Hart wins CIF. I played with Art Chavez's little brother Tony.

Watch-22,

I do not agree with the notion of, empty the bench if someone is not getting it done, all that Hinges on the game situation. 1.) If Amat is in a tight game as in the Los Osos game it makes sense to stick with the starters and certain second stringers giving the starters a blow. 2.) In a lopsided game such as O-LUTH I did see some second string players get some reps in. Heck Darian Johnson the sophmore got to start and he was inserted into the starting line up for O-LUTH and he did not play vs Los Osos. 3.)The coaches will not use that bench in a close game. They will play players in a blow out but not scout team players. Scout team players play when it is a blowout and we are not in playoff contention, this is done to look at players for the following year. It is not a favoritism thing here it is trying to win with the best players available and trust me the coaches know who they are. The Wagner, is not a RB most likely came from the fact he was looked at as the fullback for this year and Mcbride or Bonilla were going to be the starting tailback. Well as you know McB and Bonilla left and thats when Wagner was put back there along with Jesse Prieto who is a good, good player. As far as QB I do agree Iglesias has not really been given a chance to show his stuff but again the season is still young. I believe by the time it is all said and done before league we would have seen all QB's in game situations and the starter will emerge to take us into league. It could very well be your choice in Iglesias. Right now I am in favor of Lenhart and it is his job to lose. I dont like the idea of a qb rotation in league play, but in non league it is ok to find out who will lead you into battle come the real season. Give it time it will all play itself out for all positions.

Watcher that's all you are said:

some people are just foolish and are just what they claim to be, a prep watcher! some one who watches from the stands, probably never played football and just begins to make judgments on what is to be done. you claim you've been there all season wanting the best, yet you blog crap they should do this, they should do that. why not be a man and tell them a up front what you think. but yet, you just watch them play and watch them practice. But know nothing about the game, except for the fact of madden 08. I've coached for over 20 years now, and finally retired not too long ago. I've been to Amat's practice, LA's practice and SH and so on. And all i see is improvement. You say play iglesias, why? Cause he's a senior or because he could LEAD the team. big difference. you say where is the defense, well what's wrong with the defense, is there DL,LB and DB's or the whole defense. The offense look prepared against LO but not O-Lu are you seruiously comparing OLu' D to LO D. just watch your games, play your madden and shut up. cause right now you are a part of the problem not the solution.

Difiori was a better coach, Salter was excellent and Paredes was the best. I didn't know Verti was the one that called all those boneheaded offensive plays during the Difiori days. This should have been the writing on the wall that this guy is not cut out for D1 coaching. It is not the kids fault that he is getting outcoached against the very best D1 coaches.

Anonymous Lancer said:

Amat Guy,

The problem and solution lay with the coaches, with Verti being the head problem. The problems aren't new. These are the same problems the team had last year. Its not the players. These players are talented, but need to be put in a position to win. Some of our counterparts badmouthed players and families that left, saying they were the problem. That wasn't it either. This is D1 football and we need D1 coaches. Daylon is the only "qualified" coach. Time? I don't think so. They had all last year to work out the coaching kinks and the talent pool drops after this season. There only 10 games and the last 3 are league. We have to win 2 to make playoffs. Our performance last game shows that is not likely.

VERY WELL SAID MY FRIEND...I AGREE WITH YOU THAT IT IS STILL VERY EARLY. I HAVE NOT WRITTEN AMAT OFF NOR WILL I EVER. MY MAIN POINT THAT I WANT TO MAKE IS FOR SOME PLAYERS TO BE GIVEN A CHANCE..IF A PLAYER ISN'T PRODUCING THEN DONT BE AFRAID TO PUT IN THE 2ND STRING. EVERYONE SHOULD GET THEIR SHOT...EVEN THE 3RD STRING. IF THE LINEMAN ARENT BLOCKING..PUT IN HIS BACKUP. IF THE QB ISNT THROWING ACCURATELY OR MAKING TOO MANY MISTAKES..PUT IN HIS BACKUPS AND SEE WHAT THEY DO. LETS SEE WHAT OUR TEAM IS CAPABLE OF DOING? THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE IF THIS WAS DONE SINCE LAST YEAR, WE WOULDVE KNOWN THAT WAGNER WAS A TRUE RUNNING BACK AND WE COULDVE DONE BETTER.WE WOULDVE KNOWN THAT LOPEZ WAS A GOOD RECEIVER..VERTI NEEDS TO MIX IT UP AND NOT STICK TO ONE ROTATION. DONT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS INTO ONE BASKET LIKE YOU DID WITH WELLS LAST YEAR. DONT FORCE SOMETHING TO WORK WHEN ITS NOT. LETS GO AMAT*****

Prep 22 / Amat guy,

Most or some of P-22 is saying is valid and you are on it Amat guy when you say we are getting ready for Hart. It just seems to me that lots are hitting the Panic button way too early. Two games into the season against two very good football teams and we come up empty but the season and the fight just started. Sure we have to get a taste of winning before League play and the non league games are not that important as preparing for league. Teams jell faster then others and Amat will continue their ride this season, if it means missing the playoffs again so be it, but as of right now we are very much in the hunt as all the rest. We may be 0-2 but it is a horserace to the finish line and we are barely at the 1/8 pole. Give it a chance to mature gentleman, Amat is not done yet we have a ways to go and all teams are not going to be O-LUTH. The coaches are preparing a 10 game schedule give them a chance. In the end we will find out if we live to see the playoffs or we come up empty trying. Nonetheless I back Amat and it's players andd coaching staff to the fullest as both of you should too...we have the haters and the impatient but as of right now there is no need to critique or blast our slow start...we have lots of time before league play...I am sure we will figure it out along the way. Our backs are to the wall just yet. Relax and give it some time.

We were thrown to the wolves back in 82 & put into the Foothill League with powerhouse Hart High School. We shocked the world & defeated Hart twice in 82 & 83 to win the Foothill Title. We lost a heartbreaker to Channel Islands 28-21 in the 2nd round of the playoffs & Hart went on to win CIF that yr as the 2nd seed in the Foothill League. We would have faced Hart for the 3rd time in the show & know without a doubt ! we would have beaten them a third time.

I felt your pain last year and I fear the same may be in store. l The great thing about experience is it frees your mind to pull the trigger on what you know is the right thing to do. Before you have that experience - you're not sure what the right thing to do is so you straddle the fence and sway in the wind (ie: alternate QBs, Wags has a big week - then gets 8 carries, etc). Some things you know and some things you don't know, but what bites you in the ass are the things that you don't know that you don't know
so
MAT,
I'm afraid much of what you say is true but we've got who we've got and there is not much we can do.
and
Fred,
On that note, you might get a fun story if you do a little digging er...I mean investigative reporting and I'm pretty sure that I remember being told that both Kevin Rooney AND his defensive coordinator McNab (don't remember hearing his first name and was at Chaminade at the time) both applied during an Amat head coaching vacancy a long time ago when they were young assistants.

You could look at this story two ways. 1st, oh what could have been. Young guys...would have stayed forever...could have had a dynasty with no lull in the program, etc

Yeah Anonymous, but the Amat coaches called plays like they were coaching against Rosemead.

dbpanther,
You bring up a good point with your comment that the Amat glory days were in the '70s.

Then there was a lull until the mid 80s when Amat ran off 11 straight league championships (Angelus and Del Rey) with a couple CIF titles mixed in. Would you also call those the Glory days?

If history repeats itself....

Same song, different season Amat. I told you this was going to happen. You didn't want to believe it and thought I was harsh and unfair or have some sort of vendetta. Well look at you all now. You're on the verge of being 0-3. QB issues again, not surprised. Lenhart is starting strictly because his daddy is longtime trainer Gary Souza. Nick Iglesias is a far better player and a good kid, but he won't get a shot. You all made excuses last year that Tamayo and Tillis ( both now playing and making plays at LA) didn't have the height or the arm strength, but Carillo didn't have a brain. Thats worse. Iglesias has all the tools and was on the scout team last year, so whats your excuse now. Last year Verti said Wagner wasnt a running back, do you agree with that after his performance in the Los Osos game? Defense cant adjust, what a suprise. You've got the same idiot calling it. He said Lopez wasn't good enough to play many minutes last year. he's the same kid witht the same tools, that you guys now want going both ways. Sermons left, you said he wasn't good enough and he's anchoring the DR secondary. These players didn't get touched by the football fairy overnight. They've been that good. You morons made your bed, now lay in it.

HEY AMAT FANS
PREPWATCHER HERE....I WAS AT BOTH GAMES OF AMAT'S AND WITH THE TEAM THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER. I SAW THEIR PROGRESS THROUGHOUT SCRIMMAGES AND PASSING TOURNAMENTS. TO TELL YOU ALL THE TRUTH, I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED. WE(AMAT) ARE BETTER THAN THIS AND IT SEEMS THAT OUR COACHING IS VERY HESITANT AND STUBBORN. I WILL START OFF BY ADRESSING OUR OFFENSIVE ISSUES....
FIRST OFF LETS START WITH OUR QUARTERBACKS(OUR LEADERS OF THE TEAM)... ALL ALONG I HAVE BEEN SAYING THAT THE TOP QB POSITIONS SHOULD BE BETWEEN IGLESIAS AND LENHART. I HAVE YET TO SEE IGLESIAS STEP FOOT ON THAT FIELD EXCEPT ON SPECIAL TEAMS AND IN ONE PLAY WHERE HE HAD TO HAND IT OFF. LENHART HAS NOT SHOWN ME ANYTHING SPECIAL AT ALL...WHY HE IS THE STARTING QB I DO NOT KNOW? MCCLANAHAN(A SOPHOMORE) SHOWED MORE POISE AND DETERMINATION THIS PAST FRIDAY. HE SUPRISED ME AND SHOWED THAT HE WAS WILLING TO LEAD THIS TEAM. I AM JUST WAITING NOW TO SEE IF VERTI WILL GIVE THE SENIOR IGLESIAS HIS DUES AND HIS CHANCE TO SHOW WHAT HE'S CAPABLE OF.IF YOU RECALL IN THE MONTHS PASTDURING INTERVIEWS WITH THE TRIBUNE VERTI DID MENTION THAT THE QB SPOT WOULD BE BETWEEN LENHART AND IGLESIAS. IN THE OFFSEASON IGLESIAS SEEMED TO ME TO BE THE BEST PERFORMER OF THE 3. I REALLY THOUGHT THAT BECAUSE OF HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
DURING SPRING TRAINING HE WOULD GET THE STARTING ROLE....VERTI HAS LOTS OF QUESTIONS TO ANSWER IF THIS SEASON DOES NOT GO WELL AND IF THE OFFENSE ISNT PERFORMING.
NOW WITH THE OFFENSIVE LINE.....WE WERE JUST OUTPLAYED AND OUTCOACHED. OUR LINE DID NOT SEEM TO BE PREPARED FOR ORANGE LUTHERAN AS THEY WERE FOR LOS OSOS..
NOW WITH OUR DEFENSE...WHERE IS IT? OUR CORNERS NEED TO ADJUST BETTER AND MCCUTCHEON NEEDS TO BE GIVEN ALL AUTHORITY TO COACH THE DB'S...OUR DEFENSIVE COACHES NEED TO RETEACH THE BASICS ON HOW TO HIT AND TACKLE...WE WERE MISSING WAY TOO MANY TACKLES AGAINST ORANGE LUTHERAN...WE LOOKED SCARED OF OUR COMPETITION. AMAT IS BETTER THAN THE WAY WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING AND WE ALL KNOW THAT AMAT IS BETTER THAN THIS.....
HOPEFULLY OUR SEASON CHANGES FOR THE BETTER, OUR DEFENSE TIGHTENS, AND OUR OFFENSE IS ABLE TO OPEN IT UP AND AIR IT OUT.....KEY WORDS: ADJUSTING, FUNDAMENTALS, AND CHOOSE A LEADER(QB) FOR THIS TEAM..WE WILL BE OK...LETS GO AMAT******KEEP YOUR HEADS UP...THERE'S PLENTY OF FOOTBALL LEFT.

Frank Lopez the Senior Receiver for Amat is very fast and maybe can help that secondary. Good idea with Jerry Mclan. and Lenhart back there but like Lopez can these men tackle and is it worth the risk of injury and losing them on offense...What I am not seeing from the front 3 or four on the D-Line when they are pass rushing is a attempt to swat down some passes, I have yet to see one of them get their arms/hands up in the air, even if this does not swat down a pass they could try to distort the QB's vision...who is running that d-line?...Team speed is way down. Those O-luth Linebackers played with somewhat close to College speed the way they were in pursuit of the ball carrier. Amat needs more speed to the ball defensively and the secondary is very wide open and easily picked apart. Lots of juniors back there could be the reason. Plus I noticed the 5'5" Gener trying to guard and play DB on the 6'7 Jeremy Shockey type TE from O-luth.........come on that was sorry....where is the bump and run in all this.? do we just line up and take what they throw at us. there has got to be more that we could be doing to defuse some of that openess........we need to start looking at a team as a color and not as a name.......seems like we are intimidated big time by a schools name. This is not Amat type football, what the heck is going on?..lets go, I am getting sick of this Cra-!.......I am not giving up but I am hoping some coaches read this blog......the coaches need a fire lit under their Ass-s as well...That was embarassing Friday nite.

Mustang Sally,
Last year Montebello beat Northview. This year Northview 40-14. I hope you show up on Friday.

FredJ said:

I wasn't at the game, but Verti said the fake punt, onside kick and fake field all led to first-half touchdowns, which put them in a hole. I really can't say whether it's him getting out-coached or not, I simply don't think they're as talented as the teams on their schedule so far. They will probably be 0-3 after this week, but I wouldn't give up on them yet. They have a stretch of five games against Rancho Cucamonga, Carson, St. Paul, Alemany and Crespi that are all winnable before facing Notre Dame and Loyola to close it out.

Anonymous said:

Just a thought.... Lenhart and Mcclanahan are both very good athletes could ether one are both help the very poor secondary we have seen over the last two weeks... WE NEED DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE.......

MATMTWTBAG said:

Fred,

Did Verti giving anymore insight as to what happened in the teams collapes Friday? The O-LINE looked good vs Los Osos. Orange Lutheran is a very good team so I guess the line was whipped. Are there injuries on Amats line? Fred do you think Verti and staff could be getting out coached and out manuvered by the seasoned veteran coaches like OLUTHS Kunau or the upcomming Mike Herrington over at Hart, not to mention facing the legend Kevin Rooney at SO Notre Dame.? Is it the talent or the coaching or a little of both why Amat is just not going to get it done this year.?

FredJ said:

I talked to Veri this morning fellas, it appears they will continue to alternate quarterbacks each series unless one completely outshines the other in practice this week.

What is wrong with Lenhart as the starter? Playing OLUTH it did not matter who started you were not ging to look good I dont care which Amat QB it was. This is not fair to Lenhart. His O-line did not do him any justice at all, OLUTH just had the game speed at a much more faster pace than Amat did. That what it comes down to is game speed and unless Amat turns theirs up it will be a long season competing in pac5 competition. I would stick with Lenhart for now. I agree Jerry Mc. did flash some signs of a good QB but I would not dump Lenhart just yet. Also the other QB is a Senior and he only got one play to end the game. No one knows what Nick Iglesias can do either as a starter. The season just started and lets hope that these lessons Amat is learning from the likes of O-LUTH will help them come league play. Season is not over and niether is Amat but the coaches better get it together and stop putting their tails between their legs when they have a big name opponet in front of them because what happens is the players sense it and also put their tails between their legs ala Notre Dame last year and now O-LUTH this year. Time to regroup Amat the season just started dont throw in the towel yet. We still back you just go out and fight for us.

Hey fred,

last weeks perforance by Amat was dicouraging and dishartening, but Amat needs to bounce back in a big way. Weather they do it against Heart or not...who knows. The one good thing I i did see last week was the 2nd string QB come in and play with poise and in all actuallity he probably should be the starter. McClanahan is a drop back passer, throws a great ball, and sees the field well. Lenhart is good, but McClanahan looked a little more seasoned at the position. If theres one good thing that came out of that game, that was it. Weather Verti can get off his high horse and start a sophmore over both juniors, thats another issue. I will be at this weeks game as I am most of the time regardless of their record. We will keep fighting.

Charter Oak seems to be following a pattern the last few years. Lose to Upland, beat La Mirada, lose to Damien and Glendora, then beat up the Miramonte League.
