This and that ...

Injury updates: Glendora coach Mark Pasquarella said running back Brent Marteney was being examined on Monday to determine the severity of a knee injury he suffered in the first half of Friday's loss. He should have the results by Tuesday. Also, Covina's Nate Nakelski, who was taken away by ambulance following a blow to the head against Walnut on Sept. 13, suffered a concussion. He missed Friday's game against Rosemead, and is expected to miss up to two more weeks.
He said it: Charter Oak coach Lou Farrar following 13-9 win over Glendora. "They are huge. They are everything they were billed to be and more. They told our kids they were too small to play. What the hell, are we a Pop Warner football team? I didn't know you had to weigh in to go play varsity football, but, anyway.... My kids just have big hearts. They are not very big right now, we ran through those big guys, but big heart, a lot of good pride and a lot of good character and it shows up in the fourth quarter."
Said Arroyo coach Jim Singiser after 42-14 loss to Alhambra: : Coaches got to do a better job, players go to do a better job. Just all around we got our butts kicked ... no excuses."

I'm sorry but Eric Bienemy was a very special player. He was running circles around Servite, Mater Dei, St. Paul, etc, in the old Angelus League as a junior.
There is no player in the SGV that even comes close.

You post looks like a conqed in disguise. Any true LANCER knows we would never jump ship no matter how bad it is perceived by outsiders. If you are AMAT why does it state your division instead of our division in your first sentence.

Dames, Crespi's, and Loyola....not even mentioning all the other games he played.....Wells on the other hand hasn't done much yet but wait till the season gets really going not saying McBride wont do anything but just watch the game between those two there will be highlights

I am ALWAYS on here looking for SGV football talk . The Tartans WILL BE BACK IN A BIG WAY THIS WEEK . Los Altos has EARNED their spot as the #1 team & deserve the grey space . Bryce is tearing up the opposition , week in & week out . PERIOD . Amat will be back , they are banged up a little , a little rest will do them good , I see them running off a few wins in a row .Verti has taken ALOT of heat , I think he should expect that , HE NEEDS TO GET HIS MEN MOTIVATED !!! WIN a ew and things will cool down . BEST OF LUCK TO ALL TEAMS IN THE SGV !

Jury Duty - great points!
we'll also find out more about RC w/ their performance vs WC tonight
Posted by: Joe Amat | September 26, 2007 8:16 AM
We will see how good a coaching staff Verti and his crew are when they get 2 weeks to prepare for a Carson team on the Road. Will it be that the RC game was just against a poor weak team or the Lancers starting to step into their game and the coaching is starting to come around. We will see...Given two weeks of preparation and with Carson playing this week and only having a week to prepare I think that gives the coaching staff an edge, will they take advantage of it and bring a strong, well prepared Amat team to play Oct. 5th at Carson?...Jury is still out..this is the pivitol point in Verti and Staff to bring their A game.

Even in down times most have learned never to compare numbers
Besides Cornell, Bennett, Fletcher, and Federico there is also
Cesar Rodriguez, 2003 Kansas
Will Robinson, 2003 San Diego State
Ryan Smith, 2003, Utah/Florida/Tennesee Titans
Jonathan Soto, 2004 San Diego State
Jose Rodriguez, 2005 Kansas
more?

okay okay... i just wanted to know.... but walter thurmond, tobi umodu, brian mason, justin hart are all d6 high schoolers on d1 college teams. my point is amat no longer garners all the area talent. the area public schools have just as much if not more talent. concord de la salle went on a ten year winning streak and never had a starting lineman over
262 lbs.... its all about the preparation. nothing against amat, but if the coaching ain't right.... you get the point.

haha i love all these excuses glendora fans come up with after they lose..glendora you lost simple as that we got the mayor cup back where it belongs and where it's going ot stay charter oak is too much of a family and knit tied community to have a bad football program. we are big at heart like big lou said and are ready for any team, any week...with all that talk saying charter oak is too small and glendora is going to dismantle charter oak made me laugh. after being a tough loss to glendora last year when they ran it down are throats in the last remaining minute of the game to win it.. hey deja vu? charter oak making a run for the championship AGAIN!!

you AMAT faithful are hilarious (THERE ARE QUITE FEW OF US, BUT HILARIOUS, COME ON?), its one one thing to be FAITHFUL but its another to be downright NAIVE. The bottom line is that Bryce McBride is just flat out GOOD (I AGREE, HE IS GOOD, MAN), like the guy said earlier, FACTS DONT LIE, its not like he's putting small guys on there back, hes trucking over BIG players, the video is there for you to see. As for everything else it just seems as though you think there isnt a single player at LA that wouldnt get start at amat (IF YOU SAY SO DUDE). Well if you saw the game on FRI. it seems as though LA has the best Tight End and Defensive End in Ray Rodrigues he physically MANHANDLED every lineman DAMIEN threw at him (QUITE FRANKLY, I HAVEN'T SEEN THE GAME, BTW I HAVE AN UNCLE NAMED RAY RODRIGUEZ?). and if you think he wouldnt start at AMAT youre flat out crazy. The Other DE and OL Longoria (i believe) is no slouch either making plays as well (OKIE DOKIE!). it just seems as though AMAT faithful dont see anything beyond the blue and gold (AREN'T THEY NICE COLORS?), give the other teams credit and stop trying to make yourselves feel better by bashing on 16, 17 ,18 year old kids (PICKED A BONE WITH DESPAINE/GANO, LEFT THE KIDS OUT) , if u have a bone to pik with anyone from LA let me know and ill be more than happy to meet up with you and we can discuss it like grown men (SOMETHING TELLS ME, YOU AND ROOSEVELT74 MUST HAVE BEEN CLASSMATES?).

Should LA ever suit up against Amat, I would attend, root for LA and salute the winner (AND I WOULD DO THE SAME EXCEPT I'D ROOT FOR AMAT). The phantom argument calling for these two teams to play is moot, since these two specific teams will never meet, (NO DUH!). That does not prevent me from giving Gano kudos for creating a program that consistenly wins at the level they compete at and attracts kids and families to it (HEY KUDOS TO GANOS, BUT NO BALLS TO SCHEDULE AMAT).
BTW, why is that when a student/family makes a specific, considered decision to forsake the public school system they are applauded for seeking to better their childs lot (I APPLAUD THEM TOO, GOOD FOR THEM), but when a specific, considered decsion to leave a private school and attend a public school, that that is somehow an act of desertion (NOW DID I SAY THAT?)

Let's give credit when it's due.. No excuses...
I was at the Gledora/CO game and the score was closer than it should have been. CO clearly outplayed the Tartan, but dumb mistakes kept the score down. You have to give it to the old coach (Big Lou), he had them ready and they played hard.
I am not a CO fan, but I call it like I see it.
Hopefully my Knights will bounce back this week against El Rancho, hate to do it to Coach Willy Reyna but he's on the wrong side this time. GO ARROYO

Now the dad or Tillis's dad is another story. If they want to post, then it is their funeral, not Bryce's or Blake's. They seem like they don't want to let it go.
Truth Hurts,
Don't compare Bienemy's size to Bryce. Just don't go there. For the kid's sake.
Anonymous Lancer,
Amat has done it on many occassions in the past. Ralph Brown has suited up and not played. Dennis Wyrick also went through the same thing. You suit up Wagner for an emergency situation. Since Seals and Prieto were fine, why risk playing Wagner. Oh by the way, You must be a parent posing as a player.

If you don't like Bryce or Los Altos...Then don't look at Bryce/LA Highlights or read Bryce/LA articles in the paper.
If you think Wags is the better RB... Great. You should be glad Bryce is gone.
If you think Amat is the better school... Great. Keep supporting Amat. Every fan is entitled to their OPINION and their feelings.
However......FACTS outweigh OPINIONS and FEELINGS every day of the week.
These are the FACTS;
-671 rushing yds on 64 carries
-1 kick return for 97 yards
-9 Touchdowns
-Averaging 225 yards per game
-Los Altos Conquerors (3 wins - 0 losses)
Bryce is in a better place. The NUMBERS don't lie!
Big fish, little pond.....Wow, you guys really don't get it.

No sour grapes. McBride knew he couldn't rack these stats against the Harts, the Oluths, the ND's, the Crespis and the Loyolas of the mighty PAC5. He does look like superman in D6 though!

I've seen games in big ponds, small ponds, green ponds and red ponds. I've seen LA teams line up with the likes of St.Paul, Loyola, Espranza and even Amat. This may have been in a by-gone era, but the backs on those teams held their own. This back would have fit right in on those 4A Championship teams, the Big5 Championship team and even the 2003 Div. 6 Championship team.
You want to deny this, thats fine by me, but I know better.

One of the Covina kids I spoke to @ district field on Fri. night told me Nakelski had a "mild concussion" the previous week. Why would a coach allow a player back on the field after having that kind of injury just one week later? I know pros, college do it,but this is a high school athlete.

This has nothing to do with Wags..by the way what has Wags done for us lately..he played great against Los Osos but was nowhere in the O-luth game and he got hurt in the Hart Game and did not practice during the week of the RC game (crutches). Then they let him suit up and he is all of sudden healed running on the sidelines..anybody else misses a whole week of practice and they dont even suit up....why is it that Wags was allowed this special treatment......sounds to me like there is favoritism going on and thats why Bryce most likely left.....player for player they are even and I just may give Bryce the edge. Dont knock this ex-amat player because he is doing well elsewhere. I dont care if he went to the hated St. Paul Slime I would still recognize what he is doing. As far as his dads Tribune posting why not he is proud of his son and his son is tearing it up nothing wrong with that...

Charter Oak had the ball last & DID SOMETHING WITH IT , they surprised Glendora with that play .It was not an ass whooping , just a last minute surprise play win . BUT a W is a W .

DOES GLENDORA HAVE ANY KEY STRENGTHS TO THE O-LINE? ALL WE HEAR ABOUT IS HOW GREAT THE RUNNING BACK AND D-FENSE IS..

JFR,
Yea, Dukes a little over the top, but I would like GHS' chances in a rematch. Not to take anything away from CO, because these 2 teams are closer than some Tartan faithful think. But some of the "we blew you out..." talk from the other side is equally laughable. I watched the game on tape and took some notes. CO had 11 penalties for about 90 yards and GHS had 6 for about 35 yards (but one brought back a big punt return & each team had a punt "redo" becuase of a penalty). So they weren't as onesided as some have said and discipline is part of what makes a team better (although GHS needs to improve there as well). BTW, have you EVER seen a 3rd and goal from the OPPOSITE side of the 50 before!? That was crazy!! As for the yardage, I read where they ran up 200+ yards on the ground on our "great D" I counted 30 carries for about 180 (I actually got 169, but I may have been off here and there). The CO quarterback was like 7-14 for 63 yards. The stats on Glendora show 155 on the ground and 95 in the air, so GHS actually outgained CO until that last trick play (which I didn't have included in the above numbers). Bottom line, this game was played dead even in almost every way (including each team missing a FG) until that brilliant call by the Farrar's to win the game. THAT was the difference. Great game (although not the greatest execution) played by great kids, great crowd in a great community that we ALL get to enjoy. Props to CO, you knocked us off our pedestal this year, but I think our kids will earn their way back. Go win league, both teams, and represent our area in CIF well. You are "a charge" to watch.
P.S. - We should have known a big play was coming for the Chargers when the lightning bolts could be seen in the distance above the CO field during their last drive.

Nonee mus, Duke,
NM, youmake people ill just trying to get through your first sentence, this from a person who likes CO. STOP! Duke, Glendora won the turnover game and had about 1/4 the penalties. If it was reversed I would buy into your argument, enough already.

I am neither a Glendora fan or a CO fan but from what I can see if they played 5 times Glendora wins 4 out of the 5. CO came to play and it was a david slayed goliath game. Props to CO they played above their heads against a much bigger team. Glendora is a force to be reckoned with this year no doubt about it and I am sure they learned that you have to step it up every week. I feel sorry for their next opponent because Glendora will be coming out with something to prove next game. CO what a confidence builder for your team. I would love to see a rematch. Good hard fought game for both teams...

You can be small, but if you have speed, guess what... You win!
I think Lou learn this last year in the Upland game... CO was huge last year but Upland speed was crazy!

Fred:
I think Big Lou learned last year against Upland that speed does win football games. Co was huge up front last year, but Upland speed was crazy!
This year CO is smaller, and Glendora is huge! Wow, wonder what happened?

Fred,
You need a correction on your lead story. Nate Nakelski is from Covina not Northview. He was at school Friday attending class. Not sure of his status for nexts weeks game against Sonora, but he is doing fine for now.
