I for one would like to have a bonfire at Homecoming and we could throw all the shirts and banners to keep the fire burning. I guess this is just part of the new breed of boosters and parents who caused the problems at a baseball game earlier . They just do not know what it means to be a LANCER and to take pride in the fact. It brings great pain to my heart to see this kind of bulls_ _ _ going on at our school . What used to separate us from the rest is slowly dissapearing.

I felt the same way when I saw those shirts. Then I see that Tierra is performing at the Extravaganza and knew that things have certainly changed at Amat. It is getting a little ghetto-fabulous if you asked me. Must be the East LA influx. What ever happened to the parents that used to wear preppy polo shirts? now you see Parents wear T shirts and hats that read "Mack's hauling services" or "My kid can beat up your kid". Maybe they should raise tuition to keep a better class of people.

I agree with butthead74 that there are good and talented kids from the LP and BP areas that choose not to play for their respective hometown high school for obvious reasons. Gone are the days of showing your true loyalty towards your school and playing with kids you grew up with. Gone are the days where you proudly wear your letterman's jacket to show where you live and go to school. It's like that in the business world, you move on where someone else will pay you more, guess it all comes down to greed...maybe globalization has reached an all time low. Because there is no such thing as LOYALTY in the business world nor in sports.

Heck, if all the real athletes played where they are suppose to play, you'd see more parity in the local public schools section but then again Los Altos would just be another mediocre team.

You seem to knock all that I say listen clown boy I did not say Gano would come over all i was stating is that if a coach of his caliber were to come over they would keep thier local talent and attract the other key athletes.

As allways you are such a boy that you cant stay on subject, the main point is that in a city of that size there are at least 4 kids who are 6'2" or bigger and over 260lbs no doubt and there are more than a few good specialist and with a well respected coach a couple of other kids would come on in, its the same all over the so cal area.

Now squirrel brain if we go way back about 7 or 8 years ago the L.P.youth program had a championship caliber team, that is to say they were beating all the other S.G.V. teams as 10 yr olds, as of this date none of those kids ever went to L.P. high they actually choose thier way into Amat, Los Altos and some even went to setvite high, that is a fact peanut head the kids are there, but they wont play for a no name coach right now.

And as the other blogger was saying give this guy a chance im not knocking him I hope for his sake and the kids, that he does a good job, this is a great thing for the area if the school does good. But many will tell you the same thing if the kid is a decent baller and only has on average two seasons to play, why take the risk on this guy being just another patsy or friend of someone, remember knuckles the kid playing ball only has 20 games to play and the preperation of two years built into that, whos taking the risk here.

One last point here is if this guy is a loser and wins one game or maybe two and he gets fired or gets a better job someplace else he can move on easily, how does the kid get back his 20 games to do over, try that one mr Nobody.

But listen there are good talented kids in La Puente but believe me if you have many of your top kids playing thier pop warner ball in Hacienda heights "and you do" then you will never keep thiose kids in your high school, there are even home grown talent going to wilson and as I said earlier Amat and Servite have gotten thier share.

The demographics of the valley speak for themselves, this just isn't the same place we grew up in. What used to be athletic power houses are undergoing change, yes even us. Now everything has gone to the O.C. or I.E.

The sports of today in the USA are going to piss. We have all the latins in baseball and now the Chinese, Korean and Japanese players have come in, sorry to say our african american kids do not have as much intrest in playing pro baseball anymore. Moving on to Basketball yes we do have our African American players but now the influx of european players are now taking to the NBA and it is a open league much like baseball. Hockey WTF happen there can you even prnounce their names? I cant even identify with american Hockey players. Football is the only one sport we are clinging on to and with all those other sports taking in all the non american players intrest is it just a matter of time before we see Football get the europeans to come over here now that there is NFL europe. Soccer is international and the U.S.A. has made big in roads here but we are still behind as far as the mens teams. What it come down to is our American people have lost their hunger towards are sports programs and are letting the other countries send their players here to take over. Just like China trying to take the lead as the next superpower over the U.S...It is just a matter of time before they ask us how much do we want to sell the U.S for? and we hand them a price...we need to get a hold of our country we are being slowly but surely swallowed by the Chinese govmt. You think the lead in the toys was a mistake..heck the best way to kill us is to kill our generations....China wants this country and will stop at nothing to obtain it......

The only way things will change is to have these folks assimilate and embrace the American Culture. I went to one of their local grocery stores to grab some beer and it amazes me that almost no one speaks English....from the cashier to the stocker. Why is it so hard to learn English, hey our grandparents and some of our parents learned because it was the right thing to do. This is a big problem to me, because in a way it disrespects the American Culture and our tradition. So what does this all have to with football? Simple, this also translates that they don't want to learn and accept American sports.

Make no mistake, Gano was the choice of Despain who was seeking a coach who could continue the tradition of success at LAHS and not someone who would simply say what he wanted to hear to get the job.

Gano truly is a beleiver in the systems Despain established at LA for over 30 years, he "drank the kool-aid". How do we know this? Gano runs, for all intents and purposes, the same offensive scheme Despain used during his long tenure. I can say with confidence that it is my belief, that no LA QB has ever taken a snap that was not directly under center.

Gano was not just a "yes man" but understood the theories Despain employed and I would think that now, after 10 years and a number of championships of his own, he could make any changes he desired. And yet, last Friday, there were the tigh-ends moving from one side of the line to the other prior to the set call. There ws the familiar man in motion being prompted by the same leg movement used by both Hertels, Sproul, Smith, Hill, Aguilar, Castaneda et al.

There were the same mis-direction hand-offs to backs cutting back against the apparent blocking schemes.

3 years ago I saw LA get crushed in the opening round of the playoffs by Aliso Nigel who blew LA away with a spread offense. I remember thinking that Gano should consider it.

LA truly sticks to the philosophy of making the player fit the system rather than building the system around the avaialable talent.

The problem with keeping decent coaches (Smolin, Ward, LeGro) at these schools are because they suffer firstly, from poor community reputation and secondly, have poor administrative and community support and thirdly, lack of player quality. These administrations at Bassett and La Puente, Sierra Vista just don't give a damn about football and what good it can bring to the community. They rather have taco stands at their swap meets and have bandas playing "camaron" in the background. Not being a racist here, but the bottom line is demographics play a major and integral role, you have first generations of Salvadorians and Guatamaltecos etc. pouring into these communities that grew up with soccer...football? noooo futbol! So if they ever decided to assimilate and learn to play American football, would be tantamount to teaching an American to speak Chinese. The results are poor football programs played by inexperienced kids that cannot compete with a program with kids that played since their JAA days.

You made some very valid points about demanding high expectations within the community. Call me a pessimist, but I don't believe that a "markee" coach will make a difference as immediate as next year. It would be great, but it's a difficult task to take on.

Again, I agree that having a "name" may attract kids to the school, but one or two players do not make a team. It takes time to build a quality program and coaches/administration seem to come and go before anything consistent can be established. Unfortunately, the community and the surrounding establishments have created such a negative reputation that it would be very difficult for any parent or student to feel comfortable in the area. I don't feel like it's a bad place. Its reputation is a lot worse than what people give us credit for.

Your school enrollment comparisons are meaningless. The real studs are drawn to programs with a rich history. Charter Oak has the football history over Glendora and, subsequently, gets the cream of the crop.

To Glendora's credit, this year they have built probally one of the best programs in the Valley, dispite the lack of history and transfer oppurtunity. This team is made of local Glendora superstuds, not big time transfers. Charter Oak has the resources, history and oppurtunities Glendora does not.

Having said that, Glendora, by far, has the much stronger team over Charter Oak and a tougher league to boot.

Glendora will be this years bench mark where all other programs are compared and rated.

Just read the blog about L.P. high and do feel kind of sad for you guys, looking at all the other schools and thier pride and all the winning history they can all brag about.

The problem here and the remedy are both very simple its obvious the kids are there, thats not even a Question the real problem is the markee coach, plain and simple.

The two or three extra stars needed to win at a decent level would come if you had a markee coach no doubt, you see if the coach is this snail looking guy who exudes no confidence or no charisma then no one will play for him, but if he has a name or a history with winning or winning programs then the good kids will stay in the area.

La Puente highs first problem is no one stays in the school they opt for Los Altos or some other local school. Its simply the gate test open the gates and where do they go and in the warriors case they leave, thats it plain and simple. The Browns live in La Puente and there are several others out there that wont have anything to do with a looser.

Example where did Mc Bride go , thats right not to La Puente, or what about all the others over the years on Los Altos roster from choice you see its very simple, dont blame the community or the kids, the issue is someplace in the admin or the coaching and probably both.

Try this one Gano leaves Los Al and goes over to La Puente C.I.F. title next year no doubt.

Hey there are guys in the S.G.V. who can get and keep kids in your school and win at an unbelievable rate and the community will rally around, everyone loves a winner, but what will the admin do.

Dont feel bad we can always use the new field for soccer.

Now here is the real kicker will anyone in that community go and demand a winning program.

a little more about gano, i continue to read all the negative stuff on here about him, and really, people dont know him, first of all hes a good dad to his freshman daughter, a couple short stories to share, i have a good friend who's nephew plays freshman football at another local school which i wont name, hes a big guy, keps tearing his 2x pants, coaches say they cant get him bigger, so i placed a call to greg, was up at practice today, he took about `15 minutes of his time away from his practice to to take me in the equipment room to find a pair of 3x, very kind of him,especially with this weeks game against damien, and we know how important mondays are going over opponents team, next story, i used to coach at royal oak, one of my old players graduated from charter oak, and was another of those chargers that hate any and everything to do with los altos, he came to me on the field after the c0, la game 2 years ago, said you know what, coach gano is really a good guy he got to know him a bit, im sure other coaches have same situations but wanted to tell about greg, a pretty good guy.

buy i think northview will go undefeated.(sorry saint fans) and will make go very deep in the playoffs probbably championship game. But if they run into oak park or oaks christian their season is done. As long as they can stay away from those 2 then they will do great.

Coach Gano played QB at APU and my brother-in-law was his center...he is a gracious guy, gave my dad an LA hat awhile back, he is 83 now and still goes to several games a year and climbs those stadium steps in stride. Coach always asks about him when we see him.

i to saw mcbride last friday night, i agree with you , im thinking of jeff obert from charte oak, in 1985 i believe and mike vicino royal oak in 1972, i put him up there with those too, with maybe more speed.i know gano very well, in fact was there for a few today,hes well aware of bring tamayo around slowly, i to thought they were very good and smooth friday, still aways to go but getting there, i saw dr saturday, will be a good game with them,and of coarse against co anything can happen, like ive said in the past, a lose in there league to anyone is not a bad thing, every team is good and have good coaching staffs. i was impressed with the number of polayers doing well friday not just a hand full

DR, didn't lose this week but they beat a very good team in a close game, they have the two best quality wins in the SGV under their belt and their only loss was a close one to Edison which every other team in the SGV would have loss to. [sorry Glendora fans just being honest], Either way I would love to see a game between Glendora vs D.Ranch, or vs Amat ,or even Los Altos.

You tell me to go get some players I tell you to go get a real coach , we got the players. I dont think you pay attention or are not even there to watch the way a current Amat practice is being run. Can you say Amature. Nothing going on there but clowning and going thru the motions...if you cannot see it you must be a blind MF. Kick us when we arwe down and thats ok, it is your ghetto coming out of you for good reason. Amat has not exactly done its part in trying to put fourth a good season and quite frankly as a backer of Amat I will and still have hope for them to be at least competitive and return some respect to the team. In all honesty I feel we are lying down to teams and are not showing up and this goes for the players and the coaches. Game one was ours and we let Los Osos back in, we did play with allot of intensiity and heart that game. Orange Lutheran we were scared shitless, players and coaches then on to Hart where more of the same occured put the tail between our leggs and lay down. both players and coaches. It is in our heads right now that we cannot win and the coaching staff last weds. before the Hart game proved what I am saying by having a lax practice and were screwing around themselfs, knowing they were 0-2 and with Hart coming up next you would think they would put in their work and prepare...from the looks of things they were laying back at Weds. practice with no intensity and the game was decided right there that they were not going to come to play...result 43-11 I knew it going in we were going to get our asses kicked...now here comeS Rancho Cucamonga then a Bye before Carson. We will get beat by RC if we dont come to play and the coaches have given the kids the right to throw the season since it seems like Verti and all his clowning around is a great example why this team is embarrassing us right now....Verti will be fired after this year the way things are going...I know deep down we dont have the talent as in the past but we can at least play with some courage and heart and have a more diciplined coaching staff...I see allot of joking and laughing and non preparation going into games...Who is the genius behind our offense..very predictable and you have the mind of a flag football or pop warner coach...Look at Hart and their formations they are very classy and awesome Look at Amat and you see the same O...nothing special at all to our offense...who the F designed that crappy playbook... Playing 1 on 1 coverage with our D backs ...heck a good spread O will kick our ass all the time........long season ahead unless we get serious both coaches and players. 0-3 that is pathetic 1-2 ok with RC coming up would have been about right but 0-3 facing 0-4....give me a break that is not Amat.

I am a fan and an alum of Los Altos and I do want them to succeed, but I cannot help thinking about last year when they crushed Rosemead, defeated Long Beach Wilson, beat Damien and South Hills, were looking good and then lost four in a row to St. Francis, Western, Charter Oak and Diamond Ranch and needed to win a coin-flip to even get into the play-offs.

In those play-offs they returned to their early season ways, blasting Rowland and (it was either Kennedy or Foothill, I get those teams mixed up) before giving El Dorado their toughest game of the year except for their opening season loss to Esperanza.

Last years team had what was considered a stronger QB, but I was not impressed with Castaneda all that much. I believe his lack of arm-strength and height and inability to both read El Dorado and throw over the charge, kept Los Altos from scoring at least a second TD and possibly a third, which would have propelled them into the championship game.

My hope is that Gano can keep these kids focused because I agree they looked very good in terms of execution and tenacity. The O line was quick and got to their assignment ahead of McBride giving him the only thing he seems to need, a very slight hole.

I have seen just about every LA team since 1972 and when I got home Friday evening, I told my son I think he, McBride is the best back they have ever had and he is one of the best I had ever seen period.

SGV PRIDE ...DR is good , but you still LOST . A LOSS IS A LOSS 1pt. or 100pts. Wait until playoffs come & championships banners are hung . Glendora as of TODAY has a better shot @ a CIF Championship . At least that is the way I see it . I DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER DR a SGV TEAM ,but just the same ... Best of luck to you & the boys @ DR .

Appreciate your support! As far as your observation of "hearing glendora fans non-stop on this blog", Well, there are plenty of true blue fans and lots of new fans from SGV rooting on this team. I know this is way to early, but many people are hoping this team has what it takes to bring some glory to SGV in the CIF finals. Whether that happens or not, I say lets worry about each week as it comes. I'm very glad to see new fans broaden their perspective by including the Tartans in their "support prayers".
Usually, this doesn't happen till playoff time, but, I'm glad to see it comming early!

Can't wait for the CO/Glendora game!

MAYOR's TROPHY GAME is FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21st at CHARTER OAK.

LA is for real, Wilson was much bigger but LA took it to them. After what I saw last week, I wasn't sure. They couldn't sustain a drive but this week they did against a much better team than Rosemead. They are a solid group of kids, they mat not have the size some of these other teams but they play with heart and keep coming at you. #1 in the valley right now, I can see that. Lets see what they can do against Damien.

What happened to Amat, as I said last year. No help from the Admin (Msgr. Carroll) and a weak coach in Verti the program is falling apart at the seams. After him being happy about almost beating Los Osos and the spin about loosing to Orange Lutheren. You all know the spin about the trick plays being the back breaker. Well one I can understand but three in the same game, that is lack of preperation by the coaches. Lets see how the rest of the year goes. The Amat Alumni will not stand for another year of mediocrety and missing the playoffs.

MSGR. Carroll must go. No one answered my question about a month ago on the status of the school President and his term and if there was any way to get him out. I think there needs to be a recall on his election. Oh was he even elected. Msgr. Carroll must go!!!!!!!

Must importantly, is CO better this year over last year. If the answer is no, how can any one expect CO to do well against this very much improved Tartan team which beat CO last year?

There's a whole lotta talk about Glendora being like a college team. For those of us that haven't seen em in action, are there any highlights from the recent games? I'd love to see for myself.

Some observations:
I too was at the DR game. Diamond Ranch must have easily had a dozen penalties including a couple for unsportsmanlike conduct. I agree that they are very talented but they may be their own worst enemy. Football is a game of athletics AND discipline. If they are able to clean up their act they will become even stronger, if not well...
GHS vs CO,
The Tartans had better win! With possible playoff games ahead against Corona Cenntenial, R.E.V and the likes it would be unfortunate to lose to lil' ol Charter Oak. I see two veteran defenses squaring off and two young QB's trying to survive. Glendora made the big play last year, this year I see another close game with special teams being the difference.

Oh my gosh I love all the talk about the big CO/GHS game! Most of it is well stated and actually kind, on a blog that has a history of not being so nice!

I bleed blue and gold but I have this small place in my heart for our neighbors to the north. It's players like Jake Vega and the group that comes from the Junior All-American program. This core group have been together since they were flag players. They have been tough at every level. What an absolute tribute to the importance of the youth level.

What I don't understand is why it would be an upset if GHS won the game, they are in a higher division, play stronger competition and have an undefeated record. The upset would be if CO won!

I wish Glendora a injury-free game and best of luck. But remember "on any given day", just ask Michigan or UCLA about the underdogs!

Since you and I are clearly on the same page about the community issues in La Puente, do you have a proposition (other than running for mayor) that will immediately change the attitudes and behaviors of the kids and families? If so, please let me know, because it's something that I would definitely like to be involved in.

Only then, I can rant and rave about my beloved La Puente Warriors in these blogs like all these folks from Charter Oak, Glendora, Damian, Bishop Amat, Los Altos, etc. Again, we haven't had much success in La Puente, but we will always have our pride.

I didn't see many the man write anything about claiming titles. If glendora is in fact the top dog in the valley, they should beat co by 28-35. P.S. they are #1 in my book, FU@# that was hard to say but they are. People just have a hard time hearing glendora fans non-stop on this blog. Only Novmber & December will tell us how great the tartans are.

I lived the better part of 20 years in the area. You are correct...........the problem is in the community. Until the community changes its attitudes about school and their kids behavior, then things will stay the same at LP.

As for the football team being in the right direction, I beg to differ. The guy they have there now will not be there after this season. He already sees the handwriting on the wall. He will be back in Rosemead by this time next year. Like in the past years: If you can't win at the school, the coaches are not going to stay.

I don't have a grudge, it's more like disappointment. There are some great kids at that school and they deserve better.

first of all i said dr has some good athletes and could be a very good team, i was sitting on the visiting side, if it werent for the bench there running back would of landed on the track, and the numerous out of bound hits, im not against dr at all, im against them saying how good there are because of last year, and there tuff schedule, last years champs , sure, this year cajon is 1-3,they are very well coached but they didnt play good at all last night,but i guess your the experts as you know it wasnt a clip in the middle of the field and what i saw about 20 yards from me out of bounds, i was wrong,i just love good hard (clean football) know matter who it is in the valley.playing a hard schedule and coming close doesnt cut it, like i said before, if and probably when they win cif one day, i will say congrates, and hope your bulldogs have a fine season too, tough league your in.good luck

I was just pointing out that CO lost to glendora and damien, glendora lost to damien who lost to LA who lost to CO. It's a whacky world. I hope glendora doesn't beat co and lose to chino hills and CO beats DR. If that is the case then who is buying the drinks, I know we'll all need many to figure this out again next year.

I recognize that COHS has some quality athletes coupled with a great coaching staff. But like Big Lou said following the LM game....CO has plenty to improve upon before claiming any titles.

GHS is in the same boat...and those that follow the game closely understand what this means.

Allen is by far a good looking QB but he will have his difficulties against the pressures of GHS's stronger defense.

Figuring that GHS will apply pressure...CO will not be able to handle the wave of white and red shirts in their back field. Allen will either wheel out in a bane attempt to make things happen or get buried by losing real estate.

Interject CO's running game due to the lack of the aforementioned and now CO will have to deal with four very agressive linebackers....'that know how to lay hats.'

If that is not enough the GHS-Deep-D will be their to finish what we started. Scoring points for COHS may be non-existent as time clocks down.

With regards to CO's defense....I agree that they are good but against a more experienced GHS O....things could unravel quickly as Kid Kaluzny and Company will make non-believers change their minds about what direction the plaid crew are going.

All in all, this is sure to be a great game...and I wish both teams a save experience.

First off, I appreciate your response and opinion. I do agree that there has to be a change in the school in order for us to succeed and I believe that the change has already been made, at least in the football program. I believe that the football program is headed in the right direction.

However, I do believe it's a lot more than just firing a bunch of administrators and coaches in order to solve this problem. Having grown up in the area, I feel like its more of a social issue within the community that eventually impacts the school and sports programs. If you ask me, that's much more of a tall order than it is to produce an effective and successful academic and athletic program. I love the school, I love the community, and I love the football program, but its an uphill battle that we will forever try to fight.

As far as grudges are concerned, we all have them and we all have trouble overcoming them. In the end, life still goes on. I hope that you can overcome yours someday.

The truth be told, CO is an excellent team in a league which does not have the strength of the Sierra leaugue. Thats the facts. Last year CO lost to Glendora, Damien and, would certainly of lost against Chino Hills (if they had played). Please don't take that personally. There are many leagues tougher than Sierra too. Most people would agree Baseline is most likely the areas toughest, followed by Sierra. I'm not even including Pac 5, trinity or others which are much, much tougher!

Relax JFR, you sound like a great fan! Support your team!!!

By the way, the guys at FREEMANS POWER RATINGS don't listen to little old me. They are very independent and judge only the facts. Glendora holding 51 in the State stands as a testimony to this teams current strength. I hope CO comes prepared, I know they will.

First off, as the Panther supporters told you El Cajon Christian is a Defending CIF champ, they are a very good team and looked well disiplined
last night, they would beat many if not most teams in the SGV, second, D.Ranch did nothing to embarras themselves, your comments about the late hits and the refs are a bit exagerrated, the game was pretty clean, The refs were not biased, they made a big call against D.ranch on that TD that was called back. The TD should not have been called back, I saw the block that was called a clip, it was borderline but it wasn't a clip, all it did was nullify a great run by the tailback, let the kids play the game, this isn't basketball,I've seen some overzealous refs this weekend [the BP & West Co. game in particular] & it gets frustrating when it seems like there is a flag on every other play. Anyways if you can get over your dislike for D.Ranch you might see the game more clearly next time around.
Like I said, I'm not a D. Ranch fan, cause I'm a WC.Bulldog fan, but I recognize when a team is doing something special & so far this season I think D.Ranch has gone above & beyond expectations, more so then any other team in the SGV.

Thats a very good question and a very good post. Thank you sir. My thoughts on why CO continues to produce excellent football teams has alot to do with very consistent and quality coaching through the years. They seem to always place well in league, which, may also be a sign they need to be in another more competitve league...Sierra maybe? (maybe not!)

Glendora, on the other hand, seems to be consistently mediocre in the Sierra League. Of course, not including the present DREAM TEAM the Tartans have today. I believe the present squad is a once in a life time grouping of talent which is bound to get even better (if you could imagine that) as the season progresses.

Looking forward to the CO game next week. I predict the Tartan D will shut down CO completely and the Tartan O will score at will.
Don't misconstrue my comments as a "put down" of the CO team. They are a good team with excellent coaching. I always root for them when they are not facing the Tartans. My comments are only a testimony to the incredible and awe-inspiring way the Tartans perform on the field. I have been watching Tartan football for nearly 30 years and can not remmeber one single Tartan team as balanced with talent as the present team.

You know many teams have their one or two marquee players, this years' Tartans have marquee players in EVERY position...a coaches dream team you might say.

CO fans will enjoy watching the Tartans perform next Friday. I mean this in a good way.

Dear fanATIC & football gp,
First of all fanatic I think that rating for co was overly kind due to past successes. I also want to let both of you know that the coach's at co are not oblivious to the huge test in front of them. Everything I have seen "glendora" tells me this is that great team that only comes around once in a great while. Big, strong, athletic and well coached. I am curious about one thing though, why is co always in the top of the valley year in and year out with the smallest coaching staff and less transfers than the other powers. I only wish for a good hard fought game on friday, seeyu all there.

Your right my man!....most SGV teams are about three to four week away from exposing their true colors (ie; strengths and weakness)....and that my good sir, would also include GHS.

As good as we look right now we do have a level of quality experience that most SGV teams don't have....the ceveat to that is that we still have areas also that need improvement..Coach P and his staff know what is needed to compete against valored teams. We are confident that all the adjustments necessary to compete will be addressed as we draw closer to league play.

Having said that, with three weeks into the season we are still ahead of everyone else and will continue to only get better as we compete against teams like COHS. I value and applaude the efforts that both teams will exercise....but based on my observations I do believe that we will triumph in the end.

I love all of the pep talk prior to the Glendora/CO game next week. The talk is good for business!

But in realilty, I'm an outsider who happened to see both teams play. Attention CO fans, you are going to be upset. This Tartan team has no flaws. They are big, strong, fast and the D swarms like a bees around a hive. I have been watching prep sports a very long time (i'm 67 years old). My grandson plays for a local team (not Glendora or CO)I went with him to both games.

The Glendora team really seems like they should be playing against USC not CO. I'm very serious.

Good luck CO, but don't count on doing much.

glendora better bring their "a" game friday night against CO cuz they haven't seen a real team yet. Their defense is over rated. their offense isn't even rated. your right, Co's o-line is undermanned to the likes of glendoras defense. They made huge strides from the upland game to the last. LM blitzed almost every play in the 2nd and they did show improvment but are probably two or three games away from getting it. they need some huge bounces to stay in this one.

I totally agree with you! The quality of coverage in Saturday's paper was pathetic...only like 5 box scores, no accumulated player or team yards.

Interesting thoughts on the outcome of the GHS vs COHS game. Your right about GHS not having the opportunity to deal with C. Allen last year at QB. What I saw he is a great pocket QB...his feet in the box are quick and sharp. He also has a good looking arm as I observe him throw to his WR and TE at the LM game. But that was against LMHS.....and they were not a true test of quality.

The real problem COHS will encounter is pitting a unexperienced O-line against a much bigger, stronger,faster, and more experienced GHS defensive front and secondary lines.

GHS is battle hard and I'm even referring to their last two games...I'm referring to the fact that they have been TOGETHER playing football as a team for the passed seven years.

Their time spent in the GJAAF program, coupled with Coach P's GHS program have made them what they are today & that's..DAM SPECIAL!

So, while your opinion was greatly appreciated it truely will have no merit come this Friday at COHS. We eagerly await the competition....best of luck to COHS.

What has happened to high school and football coverage this year? I've been out of town for two weeks, come back and there are so few games covered and even less box scores. Last year, I used to pick up this paper on Saturday to read about each game and look at the stats in the box scores. There used to be at least 20 box scores on Sat mornings. This is so half assed. Today, only the Citrus-Compton game was covered. No wonder this paper is ridiculed as much as it is. I guess when Aram left, not only did he take his huge ego, but the good coverage too.

Please lets quit talking about south hills and how good they are,were's aram who said they were the best thing he ever saw,remember they had 3 qb's who could start anywhere what a joke ,what where they all sick friday night. This is why you don't perdict things after only the first week of practice so lets quit talking about the shills,amats,weco's and start talking about real teams.

I will let you enjoy the little success you guys will have this year. That is only fair. However, if the people at the school would ever change their backwards way of thinking about football, the school might actually succeed. Then again, the same attitude towards football is pervalent in all the sports at the school. They need to fire the current AD and principal. Then after that, hire some coaches who actually care about the kids and not just setting themselves up for a more lucrative job at another school. If all these things happen, LP might have a chance.

We never had much at La Puente. We usually play the hand that's dealt to us and we try to make the best out of it. We haven't had much success. When we do have success, all I ask is you allow us to enjoy it. I've read your previous blogs about my school and you seem to have a personal vendetta against us. Must importantly, is CO better this year over last year. If the answer is no, how can any one expect CO to do well against this very much improved Tartan team which beat CO last year?

I think the game will be over by the 2nd Qtr. The CO line will be like swiss cheese against this mighty Tartan D. The Tartan O will have a lot fun all night.

One thing about Glendora that I really liked was their size at linebacker. It's one of the things that few high school coaches value. 6'2" 210/220 athletes! Glendora has them and that's a problem for their opponents. As far a Klusnany the QB is better than advertised. Vega and company are tough skillful runners. The Oline is really the weakness of Glendora if the have one. Their success is more a credit to Coach P exploiting defenses than their blocking but the season is young and lines gell quickly when you're winnng. Compliments to Coach P's ability to build a program from next to nothing. What will be interesting to see is the after game handshake between Morrison and Coach P after last year's game. My early guess is Coach P has a long memory and used that game to rally this team for revenge. Both coaches are in their 5th year and the players and the coaches are really a reflection of the program both men have built. Advantage Coach P.

Christian HS has won 11 of their last games and were CIF champs. They won there first two games easily and their running back might become the all time career leading rusher in the San Diego area. This is where Reggie Bush played ball. Lots of questionalble penalties, but hey DR still won. There was a touchdown called back and DR's defense made several 4th down stops. Embarrassed for the SGV? This team took on an OC power house (Edison) to the edge, beat the IE's #1 team (Chino Hills who won last night with a 35-13 blowout) and tonight beat a CIF champ from San Diego. If anything Diamond Ranch is representing the SGV very well.

Bishop Amat is now the high school version of Notre Dame. All the glory is in the past....Nonetheless, the school does excel in other sports, but the football legacy will be just history. How long do we have to wait until BA rises to prominence again? I'm sick and tired of hearing "wait until next year.. our freshmen and sophomore teams are really good this season".. People, snap back into reality! We've been saying those words for the past decade! Even if we do have the talent, luck or destiny seems to be contriving against us. I remember the '02-'03 team that gave up a close game to eventual champions Los Alamitos. The momentum changed in a questionable roughing the punter call. That team produced Division 1 recruits and a national champion starter in Ryan Smith. Not to mention the following season's team where DiFiori decided to kick a 40+ yard field goal on 4th and inches!! I still have hope, but not for this season. The kids give it their best, and I applaud them for their efforts.

Well I could sit here and make a million reasons why we should have played better tonight against christian of el cajon but i'm not. El Cajon is a very good team, they outscored their last two victory's by a score of 100-24.This team has won their last 11 games and were cif champs in their division last year.They had a much better defence than edison or chino hills our last two apponants.Our defence played a great game and we'll take the WIN 2-1 not exciting but great team's know how to WIN.Last week I said we have the best athletes in the valley and tonight we prouved that. We'll grow with this victory and we'll be ready for another victory against los altos and not let charter oak slip threw our fingers like they did last year.GO PANTHERS

Bishop Amat is known for its past triumphs and championships and all the fans that live in the glory days do need to focus on the present. Indeed we cannot put the blame on the coaches for the lax program nor can we blame the players solely. Reality is that Amat is a different program than it was 20 years ago, but that doesn't mean that they don't have the POTENTIAL to regain the glory days. The coaches need to better analyze who they are playing on the field and need to get more creative using these players. On the contrary, the players need to really step it up more; these boys have the heart, now they really just need to show it and start playing like it was the last game they'd ever play. If both sides can do that, then Amat will return to the golden era. As for people who make accusations about players who have left, they left FOR A REASON. Some were financial reasons, disciplinary reasons, or simply because they "wanted more playing time." If they get that at other schools well good for them. Honestly though, Amat CAN overcome the loss of these players and achieve success. They DO have good coaches [ie. newly added Coach McCutcheon] despite claims, but they too are still learning and growing. Amat is a strong team, but they are still a diamond in the rough this season. 0-3 does not define their season. They have plenty of games ahead to reinvent themselves, which I have full support that they will.

All the luck to you Amat...prove everyone wrong and go make us proud!

The bigger picture is as someone before has stated "love him or hate him" Between Mike the Clone and others along with Aram Tolegian and the Tribune this blog is obviously something the newspaper has wanted to invest money in to. Look at all the changes and the budget this year that has been alloted to the blog. Wheteher Aram and MTC had anything to do with the coverage we now have it is pretty unique for a newpaper to devote coverage like we get to high school football.
I tend to beleive that once some of the controversial stuff that was going on in the beginning or inception of the blog got around and not only about Glendora football and MTC and with all the hits the blog was getting management of the Tribune was seeing there was a hunger for more high school football coverage.NOw, do we thank Aram and MTC for that who knows but the coverage sure is nice. We should be thanking them instead of ragging on them. Because the only reason I'm here is because I wanted to see what all the hub bub was about in the beginning and I haven’t left since.

Good Job Los Altos in our 39-7 victory over Long Beach Wilson. Held a team who was averaging 30 points a game to just 7. Many seniors stepped up and filled in nicely for the injured starters that were out.

Damien next week, it's going to be a good one. Should defenitely be the game of the week.

Bishop amat is terrible. If they were even half descent they would at least keep up with these teams. But no getting blown out week after week. I remember when my sister went there through 96-00. Things were a lot different. Now they just plain suck!

Our family has no problem with Mike the clones statements so anyone who says they speak for all of Glendora needs to think twice before they speak for us.

I can agree with your takes on WC. there certainly are a lot of good things about this team. Other good performances from this team came from Josh Thomas, Anthony Martel, and Alonzo Nevarez. One concern I have is most years I think we would not be this close with BP, They looked like a pretty good team tonight & had us on the ropes for a good portion of the game, they really caught momentum when they caused a fumble on the 10 yrd line on what would have been a big pass play for us, after that turn over they get that big run & all of a sudden our "D" wasn't makeing
the stops they were earlier on, I think that was
inexperience on our part, we are young and the game emotions got the better of us. The good thing about being inexperienced & young is that they can improve & I think this team has the talent to get a lot better then last night.
Next week we play Lock Highschool from the city section, they where a very good team last year beating city power Taft in the first round playoffs and coming within 1 point of Dorsey who is another perennial powerhouse in the city section. I've heard from more than 1 source that they are big & physical so West Co. will be in for another tough game. The main thing is that we
have to grow as a team & keep improving each week,
like you said we have to keep a good mix of passing & running plays, it looks like our sophmore QB could be a good one & he made a couple of beautiful throws last night, Ricky Johnson showed some heart & toughness with his runs, not bad for a sophmore, I noticed John Ciaurri came out of the game in the second half and had his pads off, I hope he isn't hurt. If we can keep from the injuries & work on picking up the blitzes and start playing as a unit I think we'll be ok come league.

The Tartans are going to feast on the Chargers and drink Martinelli's Apple Cider from the Mayor's Trophy again. There is no way Charter Oak can beat Glendora. Glendora is just too big. Too skilled. Charter Oak may do well in the Miramonte League but this is a Sierra League team. They are just too good. In regards to the coaching staffs, I do think the Chargers staff would roll the Tartans staff in a bar fight but that wouldn't mean much. Could you just see Big Lou wrestlin' with Pasqy and Lil' Dom going bezerko to save his ol' man in the Applebee's parking lot after the game? I'd watch out for Coach Lehigh though and that Armijo guy, they look like they might be able to brawl. Pasqy's crew wouldn't stand a chance, poor guys would probably sue though and have the last laugh to go with the Mayor's Trophy filling it with the Chargers's Coaching staffs hard earned money. If you get a chance try to find the highlight film from last night and check out the run McBride makes in the 3rd quarter where he goes down the left sideline and stiff arms two defenders and then outruns a couple more to the endzone. the wc vs. bp game was a great game. baldwin park had west co beat and then they let them come back in the fourth qtr. baldwin park has some great athletes year in year, but some how the coaching staff can never get their crap together and finish an effin game. good job braves players.

My take on West Covina:
1. QB Jacob Shirley is young(soph), but has a nice arm, and goes through his progressions when has time.
2. Rb/Lb/Ss Isaac Tucker is a STUD! never comes out game, tough runner between tackles, excellent k/o returner, had about 15 tackles
3. O-line needs to jell, gave up too much on run blitzes in first half.
4. Rb Ricky Johnson can be special, he's young, but very athletic.
5. Wr/Db Ryan Henson is a ball hawk. Good hands, good vision.
6. Defense looks solid and should improve with more experience of Henson and Josh Thomas.
7. Ryan Diaz is a monster!
If the Bulldogs continue to diversify their offensive play calling, and learn from their youthful mistakes, they have the potential to not
only sneak up on a few teams (sh) they kind of remind me of that '04 team. Just my opinion..... out

I don't know who wrote the little blurbs after the scores for this weeks games, but they obviously haven't been to a Bonita game. The first game the defense gave up one touchdown on the final drive of the Covina game. The second game against West Valley the defense only allowed two touchdowns and the offense allowed three. One of the touchdowns the defense allowed was off of a turnover which was returned inside the five. The last game was just a far superior team in which neither the offense or defense could do much until trash time. I know you probably haven't seen the games and are just going off of scores, but you should know that is dangerous. Turnovers my friend not the defense has been the problem.

I am not hating on Glendora. They played an excellent game! I'm not taking anything away from them. I was wrong about the game and most of you guys were right. The comment I made about Etiwanda was not to lessen Glendora's victory. I was just speaking the truth. In the IE they had a lot to say about how great they were and how they had the best WR in the state. I was at the game and they looked like dog crap! Overrated and not worthy of all the praise they got during the preseason! Good job Glendora and I hope they have an excellent season.

Opinion: COHS vs LMHS

If last nights game was something to build on then COHS is in big trouble. CO's offensive front line looked confused and non-functional. Late break-aways won it for CO while connecting twice on the long pass helped seal the victory. I was disappointed at half-time at CO's inability to move the ball and control the game against a less talented opponent.

Happy to say I was glad to hear after chalking this win that CO players were eager to now take- on our plaid crew.

Based on what I observed, CO's front offensive line will not have any answers to Kovar and Bowdry. With their speed and strength they will claim property in CO's backfield and control the game. CO's QB (10) won't have the time to throw the ball long or short....ouch bad scene.

As for CO's running attack....well, Big Lou better think of something else quick because the calendar clock is ticking and six days is right around the corner.

GHS secondary will be ready for prime-time as they stop the inside and outside attempts on the run. Look for Horn, C.Young, Niles and Glassman to cause great pain to those brave enough to try.

GHS Kid Kaluzny and Vega will highlight their athletic abilities as they execute with precision skills on the heels of our O-line (Sefton-McGarry-Noriega-Lilly-Bachman). Look for Edwards to have another stellar game (in the end-zone baby) as contributors Johnson, Jackson, Aguirre, and R. Young catch and run for big yards.

FYI: Congrats to all SGV teams that cornered a win and/or improved on their own game.

They just seem to be of the first half, but some good shots including 2 TD passes and a great view of that pooch kick and recovery on the kickoff.

Pre-season 5-0 is not important. Ending league play as a 5-0 team is important and is what the best coaches and teams are focusing on at this time. Great teams are honing their abilities to execute while remaining healthy.

All this dribble about GHS vs Amat or OL or Los Osos is nonsense. Coaches contract with other schools for the sake of exercising what they need to make perfect as league play approaches....nothing less and nothing more matters.

As for this weeks Plaid Lad pick.....well it should be no surprise who will dominate & control the game clock with their O and D. GHS will display strengths with aditional room for improvements, but nothing will remain as a road block for this wrecking-crew.

The only way we can put anyone's theory to the test about beating Amat is to put them on their schedule next year. But everyone knows that will never happen, I must imagine losing 2 years straight is enough to move on and just keep wishing.

when the local schools do take on the lancers, Amat usually does prove their worth by defeating them. But in the early 2000's Glendora came close one time losing 19 to 14 & Damien beat Amat in another year, also the year Damien won Ayala also beat Amat 31 to 7, my point is local teams do rise to the occasion once in a while.

Agreed! But please don't use Covina and Etiwanda as your gauge on how good Glendora is this year. Those happen to be Glendora's first two games. That's it. Those of us who say Glendora may be ONE of the best teams in the valley, say it from watching the team perform on the field, in practice and knowing this talented group for several years. Not just gauging our opinion on the caliber of recent opponents. It was said earlier, the Tartans seem to make decent teams look terrible, as was the case with Etiwanda. They were so over powered, they seemed to give up.

Glendora & Amat would be a good game this year,
the same with Glendora & Los Osos, as for Orange Lutheran that team is still on another level, I would think it would be similar to the Amat game,
either way good job to Glendora & good luck to Amat, show us that you still can bring it, If Amat can keep the game close then we know they still got some firepower.

It can't be said Glendora would beat our team of today because when they line up against the LANCERS it is a whole different situation than facing Covina or Etiwanda no matter what people think of our team today.

These hypothetical questions are really tough and annoying at the same time. There really isn't a true answer for them. People keep bringing up past teams. Thats not the question. If Glendora and Amat played today, what would be the outcome? I say it would be a great and tough game. Who would win? We will never know. We should let it stand at that.

Everybody seems to forget one thing . It just seems like when an SGV team faces AMAT they tend to play a little tight and it shows in our record when we play them . Look at what we did to CO a couple of years back and to ST Francis when everybody thought they would whip us .Just go ask your neighbors at Damien they can tell you also. Granted Glendora does look good right now but if and when they line up against the LANCERS it gets a little hard for the them to swallow .

AGAIN, how do we know what would happen in a Glendora/Los osos/OL game. You assume because Amat lost, Glendora would lose. That is plain faulty logic. The answer would be easier if Glendora and Amat playeded common opponents. Though Glendora would have to lose to this common opponent and Amat would have to win if Amat would be assumed as the stronger team. Unfortantly for Amat, it doesn't appear Glendora will be losing anytime soon if at all and Amat, well, Amat needs to win a game.

I don't believe, the way things are going this year, that Amat should be used as any kind of litmus test. I am pushing for the Lancers though!

How do you know what the result from a Glendora game against Los Osos and Orange Lutheran would be. Maybe the Tartans would win! We know the Lancers would lose because the games were played.

Also, I recall the Tartan big boys beat Los Osos at the lineman comp (came in 1st place)if that says anything.

2-0 Start and that is fantastic. Next 2 games CO and West Ranch and you will win both of those and start out 4-0, but the next 3 will tell if this team is special, El Dorado, Damien and Chino Hills. In those three if you go 3-0 or even 2-1 this team is special and loo for great thing to come for the Tartans. The question about playing Our Bishop Amat Lancers right now is a good question but if history has taught most SGV teams about playing Bishop Amat, is that altho you post a good defense and have started out 2-0 you still would be spanked by Bishop Amat right now. Even tho we have not won a game yet and most likely will lose tonites game this team is very good if you want to compare Amat to the rest of SGV teams. D1 is tough dude and we are finding it out this year again. If Amat moved down and played the d-6 d-7 league they would be outcasts for beating up on smaller schools.......Let us take our lumps in d1 and trust me this football school will be back again...we have been down this road before only to bounce back. go ask Redlands how hard it is to play BA. Yes the Redlands that beat you guys last year.

Also, there are several schools that fall into both coverage zones, which are obviously those on the Inland Empire-SGV border. Those are the fortunate schools, because they get love in more than one paper. Depending on space, some newspapers are able to devote more attention to a particular game than others. If I'm a Glendora fan, it's really a win, win. I'm sure the Covina's, Northview's and others in the middle of the San Gabriel Valley would love to have two newspapers follow them on a regular basis. Unfortunately, we're all they have.

I too was very disappointed in the small article that was written about the game last night. I was expecting bright color pictures with "SIERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" in big bold letters underneath the pictures and at least 3 pages worth of ink about our football team. We deserve it, we deserve respect, it's all about Glendora, damn it!

Tommy Tartan, the Tribune is part of a newsgroup that includes the Daily Bulletin, San Bernardino Sun, Pasadena Star-News, Whittier Daily News, Long Beach Press Telegram, L.A. Daily News, and the Daily Breeze. Because of staffing issues, if we have a game played in another newspapers coverage area, we generally use their reporters, even if that sometimes means the story is more slanted toward the teams from their coverage area. Steve Ramirez and I are the only full time prep writers at the Tribune, so you can understand why we need to share stories whenever possible. We simply don't have the financial means to send correspondents far outside our coverage area. That's also why in most cases when we have two local games such as last night with Covina and Glendora, we generally give more attention to the game where we have a staff writer covering it, because we have more control. On a smaller scale, the Tribune, Star-News and Whittier Daily News work closer together than the other newspapes in our group, so when we do have a game like tonight when South Hills is playing La Habra, or La Mirada is visiting Charter Oak, we generally write a common story that doesn't lean toward one side or the other. I know it's not the best of situations, but this is the only way we can possibly try to have every game covered. Hope that helps.

I have to agree with TM here. Forgeting history, past CIF titles and all the glory, would todays Tartans beat todays Lancers. I say yes. Anyone can lose to great teams. The object here is to win. Forgetting the Tartans last two games opponents (don't know how you could)just watching how the team performs together and their undeniable talent throughout, lends me to believe it would take one awesome and totally tight team to stop them. I don't think todays Lancers are up for the task. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe by seasons end you can relook at how both teams have done and take another look at the question. But on todays terms, I can't think of a local team that can beat them or even be competitive. Somebody said earlier, this is a once in a lifetime grouping of talent. Say what ever you think, but you really need to see the team perform before you lay judgement.

Regarding the earlier post by "Tartan Terrific", pay no mind. Either a poser as someone else said or a "myopic buttonwearer" as the Clone would probably say. I understand you have to spread yourself and the ink around the valley. That said, I was a little dissapointed in the small story this morning. If any of the faithful care to look, check out the Daily Bulletin (I think it's on-line too with more pictures) where the story is expanded and a couple of good pics. The Trib chose to shorten the ink but I'm sure they had their reasons. This brings me back to an old issue that I still don't get...who covers who and why, because several teams get double love in both papers. 5 of the 6 teams in the Sierra league get Inland ink as do our neighbors in S.D. Even St. Lucy's, which is WEST of Glendora H.S. does! Makes no sense to me. Just cover the whole league when the schools are that close. The Daily Bulletin gets delivered to some homes and businesses in Glendora, so what gives? Sorry, just venting :)

As for this "buttonwearer" (I've got an extra one for you Mike, are you ready to put one on yet?) I felt in my heart we would win and even in my head, but I knew it would be a very tough game. I was very surprised at how much we dominated though. Eti may have been overrated some for sure, but they are still a solid Baseline team and will contend for the 3rd place spot in that tough league. They also spanked a playoff team from our division last week (Temescal?). Go ahead everyone and put us to the test again next week though, but it sounds like some are starting to believe the hype. so true! I have never seen anything like it before. All other Great teams/programs (LA, SH, Amat, etc..) get the thumbs up and praise before the first day of practice, where as, Glendora has to beat the the top teams in each league (last year) and still no love. So is life as a Tartan. They will just do as they do; suck it up and keep winning!

Props to Glendora they won without any controversial big impact transfers into their program.

i was very frustrated with the etiwanda coach in the tribune today. he doesn't sound like a very good coach. instead of taking the lost like a real man and giving credit to the much superior team the tartans, he blames his team for "screwing up". face it coach, you were dominated all night by a much better team. you could have never prepared for the whopping you got. how many coaches do you need? i think they had 18 coaches on the field.

good job glendora, after last night, i'm a believer. CO better study the film, though i don't think there is much they could do against this glendora team.

First impressions of Glendora's team. Awesome linebackers. Line play is pretty good but really alot of the credit goes to Coach P who wins wherever he goes. Overall this team is primed and ready for the big time. Great overall team chemistry. Running attack and play calling by Coach P were outstanding. It's tough to single out a player but #78 is a stud. Easily Glendora's best O linemen. On the D line it's pushishment by committee. All that aside Etiwanda was horrible. It's really an indictment on the ranking system if anyone thinks Etiwanda is Top Ten anything. Poorly coached, undersized and erractic as a team could be coupled with a bad QB and well the Tartans had a feast. Taking nothing away from Glendora it was impressive how fast Glendora made Etiwanda quit. And that's a sign of a potentially great team. Well done.

MTC where are you? I'm waiting to hear your "blast" on last nights game. I'm expecting to see a lot of Glendora players/parents/fans at tonights CO / LM game to see what they can expect for next weeks game.

FWIW, I didn't get my picks up yesterday as I was viewing a JV game. I am man enough to say I was wrong about the Glendora Tartans and I'm pleased they whipped up on the Etiwanda squad. I still think the Baseline is tougher than the Sierra though.

You got to be kidding! Etiwanda is the 7th ranked CIF Inland Division team. You think the Tartans didn't have a legitiment test here? Tartan D held the Eagles to a total of 48 yards until the last drive against our reserves. Not a good test? We should wait until the CO game before you declare the Tartans for real? Sorry big boy, the Tartans are for real. You can wait until the last game of the season if you want. Tartan O was brilliant again last night and the D, well, I still think they are the best group of boys in the Valley.

I could of predicted your response. Has the Tartans ever one a game without someone blaming the victory on something stupid like the other teams key player had a cold or the QB had a hang nail.

And what about this Eagle coach in the Trib ripping his team for screwing up so much. Come on coach! How about you didn't prepare your boys for such a dominating team like the Tartans.

Don't know the stats from the game but I'm sure there were heavy yards for the Tartans on the ground tonight. The line and FB's did a very solid job of opening holes for a variety of backs. We got double diget yards from 5 or 6 guys tonight with nice work from the So. Holmes early and consistant work all night from our workhorse Vega. He had to roll for close to 100 yards. But there were other solid contributions as well. The passing game gave us just enough to keep them honest with several key completions to keep drives going, but tonight we basically ran it down their throats. We started just a bit slow on O again with just a 3-0 lead midway through the second quarter when we turned it on with two dagger TD passes from the Kluz to a wide open Edwards (both times!) sandwiched around a brilliantly executed pooch kickoff by Lehigh that was snared out of the air by a diving Beckwirth along the far sideline. That really blew open a close game...until we fumbled down deep in Etiwanda territory on our next possesion which they return to about the 9 and then puched in for a TD just before the half (although Young blocked the PAT). The good news for the faithful was that Paski had deferred the opening kickoff so we started with the ball an executed a very nice long drive and TD to take back the MO and we rolled from there. The D did play outstanding again with only their last drive where Etiwanda chewed up some yards as we were in more of a prevent D with a few subs in. Their hot shot WR didn't do much as Young, Beckwirth, Nichols & Co. kept the wraps on him. Just as important though the front seven hounded the QB all night with several sacks (saw Bowdry & C. Young in on some along with others) and their running game went nowhere.

I am not sure CO is for real. O line has BIG question marks for me.

Good win for Sierra League foe, but wondering if it is a real indication of how good Tartans are. Etiwanda and Covina may be over rated this early in the season in coaches polls and Cal Preps. Etiwanda is 1-2 now and Covina does not look as strong as last year...Charter Oak might be the best gauge...

did u say nv has no stand out recievers or running backs? did you watch the same game i did? Robles was alright today but jason Knowles had a hell of a game on the ground and farmer and jones are tough to cover because not many schools have two stand out corners so be ready saints cause time will tell.

Diamond Ranch saw Etiwanda in Passing League. This is a legit win for Glendora and deserves props. Congrats. You deserve your top ranking.

re: SGV RANKINGS

Okay so we walked away with a 31 to 13 victory over seventh ranked (D2) Etiwanda. Congrats to the O-line and O-backfield that made it happen when it counted. GHS D was the master component to this victory as they strangled any opportunities Eti attempted to complete. Bowdry and Kovar were awesome. The entire secondary pounded Eti's running and passing game.Hats off to Horn & Young and company. You all know Stryer will sleep tonight with a big smile on his face.

Tribune Freddie was wrong...but that is what guessing at sports outcomes are all about. Personally, I could care less where any ragpaper ranks us. Being tagged with a number or placed on a top-ten so-called list is for fans that don't understand what the pre-season is all about. I've supported the efforts of GHS because they proved beyond a doubt they can execute. In the weeks to come GHS will only get better executing thier O-D & special-teams. Watch out Sierre League here we come.

Don't have the stats yet, our pals at the Bulletin covered the game for us. I'm off tonight surfing this site like all of you. I'll probably have to wait until the morning.

I saw half the game also, all Northview had to do was show up to win. Impressed with Robles, but without standout running backs or receivers, they don't stand a chance against our Saints. Prediction; Saints 31, Vikings 12 (2/5 punting).

I am really glad you guys won also but ease up a little, Fred just gave his honest opinion prior to the game which I think we all prefer.

If he lied and picked just the SGV teams for games played with teams from other areas what good would that be? Fred picked wrong, he knows it after the score and most likely is glad he was incorrect and GHS won.

Tartan Terrific, "High school fotball can sometimes upset you." Why would I be upset, I'm glad Glendora won. I just made an honest prediction. And what do you mean about not getting the "recognition you deserve." Is not being the No. 2 ranked team in the area enough recognition? Didn't we put the Tartans on the front page with a big photo last week? Didn't we do a video with Glendora before the season. Not enough recognition? Sometimes you people amaze me. Just watched half of the Northview game, great offense, Robles looked sharp and he has some talented receivers. Kevin Jones is a player also. Defensively, not convinced yet. I've seen San Dimas too and they will score points on Northview. That could be a shootout.

This game is going be a challenge for both teams. Look for Kid Kuluzny to hit his mark on the beaded-throw and WR Johnson and BJ and company to catch and run. The O-line (Sefton, Bachman, Lilly, Noriega,, and Big Mc-Garry) will prove more then Eti can handle. Vega, Marteney, Tarango, Holmes,and Karnoski will gain enough to color a victory. GHS LB's Horn, Young, Niles, Glassman, and Santellan will make "pigeon gravy" out of the Eti starting O. In the end,
look for Kovar, Meraz, Bowdry, Sakiyama, R. Young, M. Edwards, and Nichols to quiet any attempts made by Eti's O.
