POSTGAME: Saturday Morning Quarterback
MIRAMONTE LEAGUE OUTSHINES SIERRA: Los Altos, Charter Oak both win

Friday's results
Los Altos 31, Damien 20 .... You have to see Mahmud-McBride (219 yards, 3 TDS) to appreciate him.
Charter Oak 13, Glendora 7 .... If you say you saw this coming, you must be from Charter Oak.
Schurr 43, Wilson 33 .....Everyone knows the Wildcats can score, but ohhh that defense.
South Hills 32, Claremont 7 .....Huskies fans are sleeping well, and can finally enjoy Saturday morning paper.
Rosemead 35, Northview 21 .....Uh oh, what happened to the Vikes. Yikes!
Baldwin Park 40, Sierra Vista 12 ....And the city bragging rights goes to the Braves.
Bishop Amat 20, Rancho Cucamonga 7 .... Told you they would start winning.
Alhambra 42, Arroyo 12 .....We heard the Moors were good, but geez louise.
West Covina 41, Locke 21 .....They're really 2-0 if you throw out Mater Dei
Duarte 85, Ganesha 0 .....Did I just print that. Yes, it's right.
San Dimas 41, Ontario 21 ....And the Saints keep marching on
Pioneer 34, Gladstone 0 .....And that Gladiators have to face Duarte next.
Chaffey 29, Nogales 13 .....Chaffey's been tough on SGV teams.
Whittier 41, South El Monte 28 ....Not the year Eagles expected.
Mountain View 12, Keppel 6 ....It's only Keppel, but still a big win for MView.
San Marino 55, Workman 14 ....Lobos get smashed by 3-0 Titans.
El Monte 39, Pomona 19 ....Lions continue to get better
California 53, Bassett 0 .....Some things are better left un-said
Bosco Tech 13, La Puente 0 ....Hey, didn't think Warriors would be this close

Above: Covina quarterback Jacob Olivas, right, is congratulated by teammate Greg Reid, left, after Olivas made a touchdown during the Colts' win over Walnut.
Thursday's results
Covina 36, Walnut 29 .... Hmmm, Northview hammers Mustangs, Colts squeak by.
Sonora 17, Rowland 14 ....Raiders coach Craig Snyder thought it would be close.
Diamond Bar 32, Brea Olinda 13 ..... Working way back to the good ole' days.
Chino Hills 36, Tesoro 27 ....Bet Diamond Ranch enjoys every CHills victory.
Game of the week, Los Altos vs. Damien
FINAL OBSERVATIONS: One of the great benefits of being on the sidelines is watching someone like Mahmud-McBride punish defenders the way he did. It was almost like he welcomed having someone step in front of him. He hit guys with so much force you thought it was a car accident. This kid is the real deal. He has great cutback moves, great acceleration through the holes and finishes off plays as well as anyone I've seen in a long time. I know Gano keeps talking about having to have a passing game, but until someone figures out how to stop McBride, Tamayo can keep having 100-yard plus games and they'll be fine. And I love Raymond Rodriguez -- dominating on both sides and what a weapon at tight end on short yardage plays.
All about the Miramonte
Guess we can end the debate between the Miramonte and Sierra. I think it's clear with Diamond Ranch, Los Altos, Charter Oak, and mid-range toughies like Wilson and Bonita that the Miramonte is clearly the area's top league.
Spartans not sharp at all
Damien's tough to explain. Without Marcus Williams, they don't have much of a running attack. They need Pertusati to come up big, but it's just not happening. I know coach Morrison said his receivers need to catch balls, but there were also a lot of overthrown passes. But I wouldn't give up on the senior QB, he's too good of an athlete and competitor.
Could they have scored a 100? Glad they didn't.
Duarte rolls up 71 first-half points en route to an 85-0 victory. I don't care who they play that's a lot of points. And don't get on Crutch for running up the score, it was 41-0 in the first quarter. They tuned in down, scoring only 14 in the second half.
You see a trend here?
Northview, what happened to Northview? I thought watching them last week against Walnut that their defense was shaky. This 35-21 loss to Rosemead only confirms it. The Vikes are going to score every week, but until they shore up that defense, expect more shootouts like this...And give Rosemead credit, they're only loss was to Los Altos (35-0), which also goes to show how great the Conquerors are too.
Rudy, Rudy, Rudy ... Hope Ruedaflores goes all the way.
Alhambra 41, Arroyo 12...never saw this coming. knew Alhambra was talented because of Smith and Brown, but thought the Knights could score points on them too. Happy for Alhambra coach Gil Ruedaflores, he's in his 20th and final year, and this might be his best team ever.
The Charter Oak we didn't know about, vs. the not-so Goliath Glendora Tartans
Finally, Charter Oak. This is the magic of the Farrar's I guess. I kept telling Ramirez in the office that I wasn't that impressed with the Chargers last week against La Mirada, even though it was 27-0. I wasn't convinced. They weren't moving it well enough on the ground, and QB Chris Allen looked out of sorts at times. But Ramirez said Farrar would have them ready, and said that he wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers won a game like this when everyone was picking Glendora. And Tartans fans, I wouldn't fret too much over it. You lost to a very good team. Just regroup, and get ready for the next one, because the Sierra League is up for grabs.

Comments
Are you kidding me? Mr. Corona still not willing to put his name behind his comments. Do you have any clue who you are talking about? You make uneducated comments about a team your own son isn't even involved in the program. Why don't you take yourself over to the wrestling room and actually spend time worrying about YOUR son rather than ours. Ours put in the time, the sweat and endless hours of film. Here is an inside tid bit for you, one of the players saying is "It's not about me, it's about us!" Learn anything? Just because Morrison turned your coaching request down does not give you the right to be critical of these Spartans!

I sincerely hope you do not think I am picking on you, but Rosy exhibited quite a bit of knowledge about Damien, but his comments about LA seemed rather general and "short winded" to me.
"GREAT TAKE on the Los Altos vs Damien game RooseveltAlumni . A LITTLE long winded but very informative . Are you a parent of just a fan ? Either way you seem to know quite a bit about Los Altos Football .Best of luck to you & your team"

Unlike Morrison to throw players under the bus in public. Doing it in private is more his style. The passes were overthrown, underthrown, poorly thrown or thrown under extreme pressure. The fact that 8 passes were caught was a testament to the quality of both the receivers and Danny's resourcefulness. The line was over matched by Los Altos DL. But more than comment on Morrison's lack of decency with that throwaway comment I'd like to comment on the positives. Damien as usual has the players any coach in the SGV or OC would covet. Salter is a load. Maybe used in combo stunts with Rabe and he's a DivI prospect as is Rabe. Rabe should be used on the inside rather than as a DE from time to time. Reyes and Sharerer are very good DEs.The DL needs stunts and needs to be rotated. They were gassed by the 4thQ. Where's Gallardo and Silva? The LB crew is better than last year's unit. They are much more disciplined in terms of depth and mobile. Simmons is so under rated it's a crime. Dominguez is legit. Very active LB in the London Fletcher mold and he can and will knock the crap out of you. Williams is coming around and if he focuses more on being a leader rather than a shouter and learning his keys he will easily be the stud he was predicted to be his Freshmen year. Still he's a surprise performer taht has really impressed. Let's talk Offense. Someone needs to see the game better. Damien is easily a 4-0 team. No one can completely cover this WR group. Too fast, too long, too bad they aren't used correctly. Read the defense and take what they give you. Several times against SJB and LA two receivers were being defende by 1 DB and Damien motioned out of that advantage. Why? No cohesive offensive second half plan in either SJB or LA. But the players are not the problem. Bento. Freidrich. Herrerea. Talmo. are all very good. Add Miller and Koprinac and there are outstanding. Alot has been made about Damien's lack of a running game. That's BS! Sainz is a So. back who esposes the lack of lower level position coaches at Damien. He's a stud. Quick, slick and gutsy and avg. over 4 y/carry. Hey he's a SO. and he's starting. Where are all the Senior and Junior RBs? Mc Mahon has speed, power and guts at RB but sometimes you have to know when to put your head down and eat some turf. That's what a RB coach would teach. Danny at QB is heroic. Wish he played defense with McHanan, Hererera and Kopribnac and THAT would be the best backfield in the valley! Haywood is young but a keeper and a big improvement at the safety position.. Oline needs to fire out more and be aggressive. They are in passive mode. The best pass blocking lines are the meanest. The best run lines are super aggressive. Get mean. You work hard but just get meaner and rough people up. Charter Oak might be in for a fall but that fall will come at a price. Is Damien willing to pay? I think so. Great game against LA. LA had a plan and eased into it after halftime. They had the confidence of Champions and strutted on the field like they owned it. And they did. Damien Spartans were Champions last year LONG LIVE THE KING! WITH MY SHIELD OR ON IT!!! Be the one that makes the difference!

Is anyone other than me tired of the SD parents hyping their kid at others expence? He is a good player, stop embarrasing him.
Posted by: Anonymous | September 24, 2007 11:25 AM
First of all Charter Oak football players are a Class Act. Glendora's #3 Reggie Young has been tauting the CO athletes since last year and this childish and hood conduct continued throughout the game. A good athlete takes the wins and the loses in a good character. Glendora's #3 didn't even shake the Charter Oak players had at the close of the game. That says a lot. I hope his parents address his conduct because the coaches allowed it.
I guess everyone suprised that Charter Oak won ws due to the game officials doing everything in their power to give Glendora the win, but talent prevailed.
Stand tall CHARGERS!

03 lancer,
totally agree that Amat should run and go back to the Wing T offense. Seals,Wagner and Prieto would run that great. I am not sold on the Hernandez kid as a fullback..he is way to slow for my liking and he just cannot hit the hold fast enuf. He did catch a nice pass out of the bakc field and rumbled down the sideline for a good gainer but he is just not fullback of my choice. Passing game has only one go to reciever, Frank Lopez and we never utilize the TE silva on passing downs...He was wide open a few times during the Rancho game and he just never gets the ball thrown to him consistanly....If O-luth can throw to Blake Ales so much I am sure Verti being a ex-TE would want to throw to Julian Silva more...if your not going to run timing routes or have a percision passing game then the wing T is perfect for Amat....altho the line must be a force when running a wing T......I like the idea.

Tommy Tartan--
I think more people should follow you, I noticed that a few of the Glendora players actually stoppped and hugged a few of the CO players at the end of the game, great example of kids being kids..Now Glendora parents who like to put down everyone @ CO Learn from your boys, Parents don't get involved in a kid fight, kids will make up before the fight is even over and parents still hold on to a grudge..

Amaanda towers over McBride in the video and she is 5"7" and not wearing cleats.
Barbone definitely deserves to be Number one

By the way D6 is on 10-5.

Barry,
I think all my anger left my body when you left our state. If you are in fact a republican I understand your feeling of ease while surrounded by Tartan fan at the CO cellblock. Hell, that is one of the things I like about the "pride of the foothills" I also understand they offer weekly meetings for "Recovering Democrats who now see the light" at the church across from the HS. Your wife might be interested however, you must where shoes and not sandles. I'm glad you are home safely in the comfort of your double-wide in the forrest right off the I-5.

Oh Barry....
On behalf of my friends from Glendora and Charter Oak high schools we are so glad your home safe and sound in your compound.
We are all just so broken up about your miserable visit. We are so sorry!
I'm sure "Coach Lou" is very upset that his visitor from Oregon is not to pleased with him and will lose a good nights sleep over your displeasure. But something tells me he will get over it really fast.
Late!

Why are all you people so vicious? How can all of you take the time to post on here and really say nothing? Two can play at that game. I am home now in beautiful Oregon, thank you, just randomly searching the internet to find a newspaper article about the glendora/charter choke game and then i found this blog and just thought I'd post my two cents like the rest of you idiots. I happen to be a republican thank you my wife is the tree huger so what you say could get you punched in the face you coward. So also what you people are relaying is that I should feel lucky to get out of that blighted area? Well good I am safe and hope that I never have to return to that Charter Choke Penitentary again. I gotta get back to my NFL games so gotta run and my dinner is almost ready too. Charter Choke is a horrible football team by the way and they would get spanked if they had the balls to schedule an Oregon team. Poor, poor, coaching and poor poor play calling and undisciplined football, see the penalties.
Barry
I may have to return to this low IQ blog before bedtime just to hear what this guy that calls himself Nike the Clone and JFR has to write....

Rosemead's defense had nothing to do with Northview playing its worst game right?
Who cares who plays in the Valle Vista league or for that matter the Mission Valley league. I can name players from our league that you wont be able to match but what does it matter? It doesn't change the fact that N-view lost.
And why is it a joke that #10 Angel Alejandre could have and did have a better game than Robles? Its okay for you to insult or call another player a "joke"? but heavens forbid if we question the talent of a viking.
Its all good to have pride in your team and all but seriously, just accept the lost, stop making excuses, and move on. Its like you said, on any given night...
Good luck with the rest of the season and I hope N-view stays healthy and injury free.
J Sutton - The only "desperation" pass as you put it, was the pass down the sideline for Alex Chang #3 that went for a touchdown. I'll admit that looked like a duck but other than that the rest of the passes looked good and were where the WR's needed them to be to make the catch.
We can always agree to disagree but please refrain yourself from telling me what I can and cannot say and I'll show you the same courtesy.

Cop/Coach,
Thank you for pointing that out. Yes, a handful of "Tartan fans" have cried some sour grapes, but the majority of us are being queit and letting CO have it's day. Don't know about the whole "chop block" thing, but that can be something a team just has to overcome. Anyone who says we lost because of loosing #20, doesn't know our team very well. Brent, get better son. You were having an amazing game and we will miss you. That fact is though, that he had not been a real factor in our first 2 games as we have really spread the rushing load around well. The penalties CO people have been crying about were deserved. They play very agressive (I'm not saying dirty) and with that comes penalties. It's something you must overcome and you just did. Our boys (and maybe the parents & coaches too) may have needed a tough loss like this to get a dose of reality...if you don't bring it each week (& I mean mentally as much as physically), even if you have a very good team, you will get knocked off by a good team like CO. They out-desired us & we made too many mental mistakes. So have your say all you basher's, our fans had a lot to say before the game (too much, for sure and too optimistic) so we have it coming. But this is still a very good team and the most important thing is trying to win our tough league. This game will help us as it did you last year, so for that thank you Charter Oak and good luck the rest of the way.

Barry,
I still am wondering how co rushed for 200yds on the steal curtain D. Oh yeah, they got lucky. I wonder why they chose to rush the ball that many times on the last. Luck, or because they could and did! I guess ther defense sucked so bad that they accidentally got in the way of your RBs. All everyone heard about was your monsters up front and your killer LBS, did they miss the bus or maybe they were outplayed for 48 min. If your coaches and players are that much better you should have at least won by 10. I thought you people were about sucking it up and moving on, "some are" but if thats not the case I'll be more than happy to continue speaking about your LOSS!
Barry, If you are from oregon your lucky you left that stadium alive you tree hugging freak. Glendora fans would have let that happen of they new,nor would I.

I was at the Covina Walnut game on Thursday and was on Covinas side not as a fan but just to see a game and saw kids from Northview there with there jerseys cheering for Walnut on Covinas side NO CLASS... The kid that has the #2 jersey had a baby pacifier in his mouth walking around like he was the man. Northview got VERY BIG HEADED on the win against Walnut... Northview Football is ok for the leage there in weak......

I read all the talk (good and Bad) so I had to check him out. It was easy since I live close to Damien. He is really good. What the hell was Amat thinking not trying to develope this kid. You dont get good over nite. Im glad LA saw his potential. Thanks Amat. Your why I call my self what I do. Maybe next year Amat will lose some one good again so I can have a new name. When I see another guy miss a whole 2nd quarter do to diabetes, almost pass out because of low blood sugar, get a insulin shot and come back and murder a team people said he wouldnt be able to take a hit from. Thats when Ill change my name. That kid has heart. Ive neverseen anything like it. Besides the big heart, his cut back moves are great to watch. Any one with anything bad to say should go check him out. You will change your mind. Maybe not Amat fans, They're loseing. How does it feel.

Are you kidding me???!!! Rosemead came out fired up???!!!! Were you at the game? Rosemead went 3-n-out on their first offensive series, while NV took the ball down the field and scored!!! As for Anonymous, Im sorry, you're right, Robles did throw 2 TDs but also threw 4 INTS (two to #3, 1 to #27, 1 to #44). As for the the MVL being better than the VVL-- Im not saying that either, but ROsemead was clearly the better TEAM, while NV had the better athletes with the biggest mouths. Rosemead just played ball and WHACKED em. So you can call it LUCK, A BAD NIGHT, or whatever else you want. I was at the game and saw a fast Rsemead TEAM, playing a flashy but SOFT NV team. NV "darkside" defense OVERRATED!!! NV Offense... Fire the OC and let the HC call the plays. In fact, NV OC told the Mead's DC "You were one step ahead of me, all night"!!!! NV players and coaches know and understand football... Rosemead made Plays (you call them lucky) and NV just over-hype. Maybe if NV stopped spatting and didnt worry about what they look like they may be able to compete with SD in VVL cause they couldn't comepete with the Mead in the WEAK MVL, right? WRONG!!!!

I am from Oregon and was in town for business and came to the game to see what California high school football was like. I think the better team did not win this ballgame. There was better play calling on the red teams sideline for sure. From where I was sitting on the visitors side I couldn't tell who was the head coach on the blue team 'Charter Choke Chargers'? They seemed to be fighting among themselves all night long and definitely got lucky. Overall I enjoyed my experience however would not choose to return to that campus, it looked more like a prison. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

To J sutton
ill give credit to rosemead they did come out and played their best game. But thats just it their best game. While on the other hand northview played their worst game i have seen since last year in that stupid game against pomona.I think the promblem is that the coaches are not keeping the kids concintrated. But in reality they are no where near Northview .Nowhere near the athletes and nowhere near the skill players. They just played a great game and northview came out like crap. That wasnt the real nv team trust me. If thats the case so then your gunna tell me rosemead or any other mission valley team has better plaryers than the valle vista? So # 4 from rosemead is better than nico barbone, Jason knwols, and charles shorts? Because northview is the best talnted and all around team in the valle vista. They are not the champions, Covina is untill someone knocks them off.If thats the case so number three and 33 is better than kevin jones, anthoney farmer, and arius williams. i dont think so.Oh and #10 from rosemead is better than oscar robles and jacob olivas, thats a joke. watch the comments you make because when you insult nv and claim your better your claiming your better than the rest of the valle vista because nv is one of the best teams there. im not goin to say the best because league hasnt started and they haven't proved anything in the regular season. Trust me you caught nv on a bad day . You guys earned the respect for coming out fired up and handing it 2 nv. but on any givin day anyone can beat anyone.

Wow! That caught many of us by surprise.
Charter Oaks' win over Glendora? No. Although I(like many here) believed the Tartan's lines would control the outcome, I am not surprised that CO's athletes won the game.
No, I am surprised by the Glendora fans reaction to the outcome.
Last season Tartan fans had to hear Covina and CO fans wolfing about injuries, suspensions and other issues that led to their losses. They refused to give proper due to Glendora's effort. Tartan fans complained about it.
Now the shoe is on the other foot. Don't fall into the trap Glendora. Congratulate the Chargers and look ahead to you next opponent.
Both the Tartans and the Chargers deserve this.

Hell of a game CO. You guys played with Heart on Frday night. Why cant Glendora players, coaches and fans get over there defeat? How does CO play dirty? Come on now if you had a big running back running full speed at you, what would you do? Oh and Regie #3 dont be running your mouth no more bro. I think Kannan Snowden #4 you played your but of man CONGRATS. Oh i almost forgot 2 congrat CO's O-LINE/D-LINE. Remember what the paper said that you guys were to small on both sides of the ball. #55,#75,#50,#66,#64,and#22 good job on the O-line. #18,#56,#44,and#55 good job on D-Line. "Never underestimate the heart of a Cherger"

J SUTTON,
Robles threw 2 td passes. Yeah you must have really watched the game. One to Williams the TE and Rogriguez the FB get your stats right before coming on here strutting your stuff. Also rosemead got lucky with some desperation throws from the qb so please dont say clutch throws ok jjimenz

if you are calling big red a loser for not being on espn then does that make your old man a loser too for being a high school football coach and not an nfl or even college coach? i'd say so
