POSTGAME ... Saturday Morning Quarterback ...Top-ranked Los Altos goes down, Duarte-Gladstone ends in brawl

Above: This taken from a spectator when fight breaks out between Gladstone and Duarte. I'll have a different thread on this incident later this weekend.

Above: Duarte's Desmond Hayes eludes a defender during Falcons 34-3 win
Friday's results
Duarte 34, Gladstone 3 -- I'll explain this later, game ends in brawl with 3:28 left. Chris Harris look great though, rushing for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
Bonita 28, Northview 12 -- Podley continues to work magic with Bearcats; Saints next
Damien 14, Charter Oak 14 -- What, no overtime? Give Spartans credit for bouncing back after last week's loss.
South Hills 28, Fullerton 7 -- Not surprised they won, but shocked at how easy it was
St. Francis 35, Los Altos 21 -- I have to watch the video. I can't explain how the team I saw last week loses at St. Francis and gives up 35 points.

Above: St. Francis QB Austin Heyworth running for a touchdown against Conqs.
Rancho Cucamonga 42, West Covina 21 -- Too many athletes for Bulldogs to keep up with
Wilson 42, Montebello 20 -- Chalk up another solid win for Wildcats
Rosemead 34, Temple City 12 -- Took a while for Panthers to finish them off
Azusa 39, Sierra Vista 14 -- Aztecs could be a force in Montview
Don Lugo 22, Rowland 21 -- Another close loss for Raiders
Corona del Mar 22, South El Monte 14 -- Closer than I expected
La Puente 39, Workman 9 -- These Warriors are a force
El Monte 22, Baldwin Park 21 - Lions go for two and win on final play of the game
Arroyo 28, El Rancho 21 -- Didn't think Knights would struggle, but they did
Diamond Ranch 15, Ayala 12 - Ranch struggles with team that beat Duarte
Nogales 7, Montclair 3 -- One touchdown is all it takes

Thursday's results
Glendora 28, West Ranch 14 -- Tartans look flat early, but bounce back and beat a very good West Ranch team.
Troy 42, Diamond Bar 38 -- Brahmas lose, but make their point. If I'm one of the so-called Sierra League favorites, the Brahmas would worry me.

While looking at the argument some people have posted in regards to the talent Damien has, the fact stands that none of them have major D1 potential. Don't get me wrong, there are players with great athletic ability. Unfortunately, great athletic ability doesn't constitute great football players. Rabe is very good "high school" player who committed to Oregon, yet he rated a two or three star overall. McMahon has great speed just like 10,000 other high school players across the country and he will be lucky to hear from a Nevada or New Mexico State. Herrera is another one with great speed at receiver but he doesn't carry a 6'4'' frame running 4.38. These kids are good for what they are doing know. Miller was getting looked at by some programs but struggles with extra points now and again. And D.Harper is not an argument...by all means congrats to him but being asked to come to school and walk on the team doesn't mean he amazing. USC filled a roster spot with just like they did with South Hill's Justin Hart two years ago. He will be buried on that depth chart and will get against the Idahos of the NCAA when SC is up by 30. "God's gift to the world" Will Harris (Charter Oak) hasn't even played and why? Oh yeah he's not that good. He's gonna sit behind Taylor Mays and Kevin Ellison until they're gone and by then SC will have some freshman with twice the talent that he does. While I'll agree that Damien's coaching is sub-par at best (excluding Carroll considering that the defense is the only thing keeping their season alive), these kids aren't going to be stars any place else other then where they are. The SGV produces one or two kids at most that are really capable of a D1 scholarship, and no the WAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt conferences don't count (no disrespect to Ian Johnson. The Haydens, Minor, and McClutcheons aren't out here anymore. I can't remember a big time recruit coming out if the SGV since Donnie McClesky (Amat) and even he went sorry ass Cal that didn't start getting good until he was an upperclassman. And I know there are going to be names like Bryan and Jeremy Patton thrown at me but c'mon. Jeremy hasn't done anything significant at all and Bryan's only memorable highlight will be his pick off of John David Booty while splitting time on the field. I haven't heard anything from Daniel Drayton (Los Altos) either. Sedrick Ellis and Chris McFoy (Chino) have had decent college careers at SC and everyone was drooling over them when they played out here. The SGV doesn't have the LB Poly, Mater Dei, Hart, Valencia, St. Bonaventure's of the world. Those teams come here to kick our asses for a confidence boost. You have to go out west for the amazing talent or go out to Norco and Orange County for the four and five star prospects. The SGV is stuck in the middle and that is exactly where most of these kid's talent lies in comparison to the rest of the state...in the middle.

BIG BLUE,
Read the same article in the Trib about D Ranch. All the coach said was in reference to scheduling tops teams for non league games to test themselves, similar to what we do . He mentioned he would like to schedule AMAT . I don't see where you should take that in a negative manner after all he is condidering us still one of the top teams unlike alot of other schools who don't have the b_lls to schedule us even though we are thing of the past with no hope in sight.

Amnot....your retarded, you have exactly zero room to talk sh*t.....your not winning, your not improving, your teams gettng smaller, slower, and weaker every season........you have loads of drama ahead of you, and no one in sight to steer you straight.....i feel for you.....you used to be "SOMEBODY" in football, and not that long ago---kinda like us....except we're not a buncha primma donna, self absorbed, uptight buttholes,.....we're just a buncha public school folks trying to regain the magic....I hope your team is as lost as you are, I'm sure those Carson kids are gonna feel real sorry for you. Your gonna get alittle Polynesian blanket party thrown your way this week....enjoy.......

Randy the randnipulator, Randomly selected for listening pleasure, the great Randino,
Bottomline is you team sucks and is going nowhere. Temescal punked you guys and you must feel like a real big shot beating up on those boys from Walnut........whenever you want to pick up the phone and call Amat for game do it.....we will cut off your nutz and hand them to you partner.......heck Ayala is going to kick your ass in your next game.......Chino Hills and Damien , new coach or not your team is a loser every year......stick to baseball oh thats right thats over too now that the Gary Brown days are over......

AMAT fan...stay the hell outta this.....this is between DRHS and DBHS.....you got enough problems yourself...nobody was calling you out, although they should, your a shell of what you used to be.....3 wins this year?....if your lucky....we don't bash our own admin here(maybe someone elses), we don't bash our kids here....we don't bash our coaches here either.....I didn't think airing dirty laundry was part of the Lancer tradition (of which I dont give two sh*ts about).....but after having read your posts here fer a couple years now, i see through your smoke and mirrors......we all do.....

D-Ranch calling out Amat in the fish wrap today.? what is that?...bet by your league and win something before you start popping off with that nonsense.

Where is the friggin' spell check on the tool board. I spell like I went to Diamond Ranch! I'm sure my point was delivered....
Posted by: randy | October 2, 2007 9:30 AM
I guess my last response was sensored by the Disney oversight committee that screens the posts....whatever...
Hey Chuntee Panther fan.....your school admin screwed up the deal last year, Layton may or may not have been a part of that, I don't know....We will both have openings this coming year (in '08), I'm sure it will be carefully looked at up by the folks who actually make the deal....DBHS will be even stronger, and your will be weaker next year, sounds like a perfect time to start this thing off.....
Must be nice though and so convenient to have your pick of the athletes in the Pomona School District, "arrange" a cheesy little inter district transfer and have them suit up on game day....while Garey, Ganesha, and Pomona's team drop off the map in every sport.......theres no way ALL them kids live in DB and Phillips Ranch....it is what it is though huh? you still DON'T win championships--except in Girls hoops......PROPS to ya there!!!!!!!!
Work on winning those league games, and not so much about non-league games...so you might possibly make it to the finals before we retire...that should be your focus, que no? Mr. Coin toss.......don't be coming into this house barking like some big dog that hasn't done jack sh*t in 10 years......NOTHING.......YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW AS A TEAM IN 10 YEARS....S T F U.....
Are we still friends?? If we weren't friends, why, I just don't think I could bare it........;)
Posted by: randy | October 2, 2007 9:27 AM
Hey chun-thee.......we don't make the calls here on the blog. You know that. Our admin has heard the questions about who we are going to play in the preseason. We don't go whining to them at every game.
I think we have two openings next year. I'm pretty sure Temescal and LB Jordan will be off the schedule. Next year we will be even stronger, and you weaker...so maybe they were just looking for the right time to schedule your dumb asses. Like a skilled boxer waiting for his chance, and striking at just the right moment.
Work on your league games, thats what gets you into the playoffs, ...It must be nice being able to pick the prize athletes out of the Pomona school district, arrange some cheesy inter district transfer and have them suit up for you on game day. There is no way in hell those kids ALL live in DB and Phillips Ranch, you know exactly what i'm talking about. Must be nice though, and how convenient.....good luck against Oaks Christian...if you have a a chance at scoring 14 points on them, this is the year....
Posted by: randy | October 2, 2007 8:46 AM
Randy, yeah right! Layton was in and the triple booking (not the case)came from waiting for you! DR had to pick up Christian last minute. It was your school who did not have a coach! All preseason games are available next year. Call the school and ask for the AD or the coach. (909) 397-4715 Put or shut up! The Brahamas are all BULL!

Roosevelt Alumni/Damien FB Fan,
The problem with Damien lies on the lower levels, at this point in time. The coaching is, and has been, sub-par for several years. The quality of athletes has allowed this fact to go unnoticed for quite some time, but the reality has surfaced and is obvious to anyone who follows the Spartans regularly.
Once the varsity years arrive, primarily Junior and Senior years, the players are not prepared for the advanced speed of the game. This years O-line is good sized, but what is size without quick feet?
The secondary is gets burned more frequently than my morning toast, and the defense's pursuit to the ball seems to be in slow motion.
Add these shortcomings to the crappy play calling from the sidelines, and you've got mediocrity.
I wrote a few weeks back that this year's Damien squad is a .500 team, not much more than that. This forecast speaks to their program's problems, and their current level of play.

What are you now, Gano's personal secretary? As a matter of fact I did call and Gano said he's too busy to speak right now as he was trying to pry your lips off his butt cheeks.

I agree with most of your post but, you are way off the mark stating that any one on this years JV team belongs on the Varsity roster at Damien let alone play at that level. Their last game on Thursday against Charter Oak. They had to get a saftey to win over a team that cannot get out of there own way. That is a bad 0 and 4 team. A coaching staff calling the wrong plays at the wrong time. I would rather have a kid play at the JV level then sit at the varsity level. You should be happy your son is where he is. Damien will have a new look in two weeks. I can't promise a new play book but, changes are being made for the better.
Good luck to you son the rest of the way.

Well little boy have you made that call to Gano yet?
Thats right no response at all, and try something a little more original would you sister, lay off the crack pipe drink lots of water, what the F&*%.
The way you poped off last week about his coaching im sure you made the call to his office, still no response.
And you are concerned about my spelling you know the more i read your bile spitting out of your head im really begining to think you are a female, worried about my health worried about my spelling whats up here are you a girl, come on now tell the truth.
Anyway just in case you dont have coaches number, this will help just drive down to the school, you know where its at right off the 60 freeway the one with all the titles painted around the gym. Hopefully I spelled o.k. for you sweetheart.
P.S. dont piss in your pants when you see him!

Truth be told,
Using the West Co. game to make your point doesn't work, West Co. is in a down year,
they start 6 sophmores so leave my Bulldogs alone[lol], The games that would be interesting vs Amat would be Glendora, Diamond Ranch [when healthy] C.Oak & S.Hills, we'll have a gauge
on how S.Hills compares with Amat this Thursday
when they play Rancho C.
About the West Co. game, I don't think the Bulldogs are as bad as they played that night, & the score is not a true indicator of the differences between the two teams. I feel this
team will learn through the season & will improve
noticably come league.

Response to "Diamond Bar":
Slow down kitty kitty....We were good to go last year, but your people at DRHS, with your revolving door head coaches, triple booked for "our" weekend.......the principle scheduled someone, the AD scheduled someone else, your flavor of the month head coach at the time scheduled someone else....in the end, you stuck your "hardest non league schedule in the country" and we got the boot, that iron man scheduling surely had alot to do with you getting into the playoffs last year on a COIN TOSS.... that was impressive bro!
Our time will come---that is for sure. Buts its not like we're ducking a proven CIF champion, YOUR PEOPLE TRIPLE BOOKED and left us holding the bag!
You are legit contender, and we're on the road back. We've both got great kids, and this thing will blossom into a purple, black and blue beat down every year. Don't be so anxious to get your teeth kicked in, and paws de-clawed.....we're coming...and HELLS coming with us.....
Posted by: randy | October 1, 2007 1:17 PM
Just speaking the truth about the top 10. I am not a Amat faithful at all but it does make sense that they beat RC and WC got beat up. Also truth is Amat will not make the CIF playoffs again, there is no way they beat Crespi and there is no way they beat ND. As far as the locals playing Amat sure anything can happen and a SH or LA could win a game against them but year in and year out they play some heavy hitters and maybe it is time to move them down..they are not what they used to be and will find that out again come league play, heck Carson may take them out......It is a little of coaching and it is talent base and Amat has got to face facts they cannot hang with the big boys anymore and should come down and play there SGV counter parts......
Posted by: Truth be told | October 1, 2007 10:43 AM
Truth Be Told. You have a good point about Amat. I have no problem with them being #1 even with losses. They are playing TOUGH teams to get ready for their BRUTAL league. I would love to see them play Glendora, Damien, Los Altos, and Charter Oak all in pre season. That would be a heck of a pre season, and keep pounding Rancho. Then the debate would be over. They would be #1 unless they lose to a local team. Until they lose to a local team, I say put them #1. I'm sold.
605 Out!
Posted by: 605 Fan | October 1, 2007 10:14 AM
Here's a question for the Amat faithfuless. Name 3 teams in the SGV that are potentially your peers. Say you consider yourself a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale. Rate all the SGV teams and what do you get? Not one other 10. Damien is probably a 7 at best. Los Altos and Charter Oak are maybe as well, so how can you be the King of the SGV? Your peers are St. Bonny, Servite, Mater Dei, Rancho Margarita, Norco, Loyola ect. Kings operate on a larger scale don't they? So can Amat please stop with the "we're the king of the sgv" comments. I know that will never happen but hey you never know. Saying you're the king of the sgv is like saying you're the owner of the most expensive house in La Puente. Wait? YOU ARE SAYING THAT! long live the king (burp!)
Posted by: Greenspan | October 1, 2007 10:11 AM
DBHS agree to play Diamond Ranch! DR is playing two teams in your league and still can't get you to agree? This would be a great rival because the boys play Pop Warner together. Our side wants it, your side wants it, our players want it, your players want it, our coach wants it, your coach...? Whats the deal. Stop telling everyone you have too many rivalries. Troy is not a rival. Diamond Ranch will be a bigger rival than Walnut. Call Diamond Ranch and schedule the game. Everyone knows it is you who are ducking us. Give the fans, parents, players and the community what they want.

Mr. Tillis must be going crazy and throwing his tantrums now that Tamayo put up a bad game and he must be calling for Blakes promotion........also WC losing to Rancho Cucamonga?.....All the talk about Amat being at a equal level with the rest of the SGV and being a normal team now?....heck Amat made it look easy against RC......WC got rocked there is no comparison Amat is still king of SGV......now SH and LA will have something to say about it right?...wrong St. Franny kicked LA ass again for the second straight year with Soph. RB....all LA has is bryce and the young man is the only one carrying that team single handedly...that is why that top ten is a bunch of BS.......
Posted by: truth be told | October 1, 2007 9:27 AM
Well, I had to pick West Covina, Fred is right, too many athletes. But congrats to coach Sanchez and the El Monte Lion! That was my upset of the week. BP got out coached. Better athletes doesn't always get you a win. Rancho has good coaching and athletes.
Words of wisdom for coach Heggins. Start calling both sides of the ball. You are the only one who has a clue on your staff.
Can't wait to see this week's picks.

Heart is great to have, but it doesn't mean jack sh!+, if you don't have the skills to go with it. You can the biggest heart and the best of intentions, but if the skills aren't there, it just doesn't matter. Your best athletes should be on the field, on both sides of the ball, at all times, baring any injury. There seems to be a common thread that most of these coaches don't/won't play the best player for the job. Damien fans, LA fans, Amat fans, CO fans and SH fans all complain of this. Coaches get too caught up in their own agendas. Remember coaches, its not about you just like its not about any one player. Its about what the TEAM needs most at the present time to be successful in the current season. A coach is a teacher and that is what should be taught.

To the bloggers who keep talking about Marcus Wiliams like he has or did or would have contributed to Damien's success get a grip. He was hurt all of last year except a few games. Never was a factor. In fact Chris Marine was Damien's horse and game MVP on a couple occassions. Williams never was a factor. He's a hard worker but he's had a rash of injuries that have left him on the sidelines 75% of the time. I find it incredible this talk about missing one player and great teams deal with that reality. Imagine Damien without Pertusati. Glendora without Kalsuny. Los Altos without Bryce. And so forth. They are major loses. Damien was lucky to get a tie. Damien size and speed alwyas keeps them in games when their coaching fails them. They are woefully undercoached and poorly conditioned. It's taken Schmitz and Rabe 4 years to get in shape. Morrisson does everything for that team but carry water. As big and strong as Damien is and with their speed they should be undefeated. No RB coach,no QB coach, no WR coach, no TE coach, no strenght coach,no linebacker coach. Morrison does offense, Carroll does defense and that it. Coach Bubba is all heart and work ethic and Coach Hile does what he can. SBut Damien is simply an undermanned and under developed staff. And that mess starts at the lower levels. Rabe DE, Schmitz Ol,Herrera WR,Miller K, Betance P,McMahon S,Salter DT are all potential DI prospects. That's 7 on one team! Add Mendrun U, Travis WR, Luiten DL,Walsh DE and DeLaTorre OL and Harper CB@USC from last year's team and well that's alot of ballers on 1 team. Best of luck to Morrison. No way he's a .500 coach playing Div6 teams and Ayala and DB for the last 5 years, but he is. A Glendora blowout of the Spartans will have the Alumni forgetting last year's heroics. Hope Coach Carroll comes thru for Morrison like he did last year at this time and runs the table roughing people up. Not a hater but is anyone else not impressed with Damien's consistent size advantage? Morrison start bringing up the biggest, fastest, meanset most skilled JV players immediately. I count 7 that are qualified. Go Spartans!

there are no "IFs" in football huh? so there are no upsets??...cuz every week, the best teams consistently kick the crap out of the "up and comers"???
perhaps you didnt see how half of the top ten in college football lost this weekend.....maybe IF they had brought their "A" game, they would still be in the top ten???
You never know whats going happen fer sure, thats why they play the games...right??

Diamond bar, let me tell you there for real im not saying there going to win a championship but the serria league teams better be ready when you play them, john martin is doing a outstanding job over there and that team has lots of talent and big hearts and beleive me they have played big teams and fast teams and done just fine.

Your comment about DB slipping in (IF) Chino Hills, Glendora, or Damien crashes during league play is duely noted.
My opinion is that Ayala will likely make a mad dash at the CIF big dance also.
But then I'm not kicking DB to the curb either.
Pre-season winning builds confidence as you suggested, and as we all enter league play.....we are glad you (DB) are feeling it this year.
Several strong teams in the Sierra League will definitely make things interesting in 2007.
FYI: There are no "IF's" in football or any other sport.
Best of luck....until we meet.

Fred,
Tribune top 10 rankings will be difficult this weak. After careful analysis, this is how I would place them:
Tribune Top Ten rankings
1. Glendora (Beat a very good West Ranch)
2. Los Altos (Lost to St. Fran - should have done better)
3. Charter Oak (Tied Damien - a lower ranking team)
4. Diamond Ranch (should have done better against Ayala)
5. South HIlls (good win against Fullerton, have they ever won a game?)
6. Bishop Amat (a victory - Thank God!)
7. Damien (No Snowden and can only come up with a tie?)
8. San Dimas (doing well against lower lever opponents)
9. Rosemead (Good win vs Temple who?)
10. Duarte (#10 just to piss off Crutch)

i asked where your from, because either you or your team has lost to gano many times or his team allways finishes ahead of yours, your jealousy runneth over.

You know what, I'm taking that comment about DB and not making the playoffs back....they should take down both Ayala AND Chino,....that would leave one more win to sneak out/pulloff/upset over Damien, Glendora, or Chino Hills----just one of those supposed tough guys slips and lets down against the Brahmas, and we're in...this aint gonna be no walk in the park, thats fer sure, but the Brahmas have the horses to score with any of those 3 teams. They just gotta have a big game defensively, and they are in.....I believe, the fans believe, and its pretty obvious the Brahma players BELIEVE.....stay strong, stay gold...

rooseveltalum74,
Have you ever thought about laying off that pipe when you write? Here's some advise if you're sober enough to read this, sleep 8 hours, take 2 advils, drink lots of water, use spell check and have a 2nd grader check your writing for grammar, sentence structure and sentence clarity.
R2D2,
Why do you ask where I'm from? are you a homie, cause I don't wanna get shot?
Posted by: LA who? | September 30, 2007 4:36 PM
Like I have said in the past, Anonymous is a coward little boy, some day when these url's are released and believe me they will be I mean even citibank cant keep thier info secure, im sure your a wanna be who's kid never even touched a field, or more than likely you dont even have a kid just yet.
And to the child who wrote about the chicago bears shows your level of football intellect, you piece of tripe there is no simalarity between the N.F.L. and high school football, whoever the football coach is, its his right and thats it, when you have put in the work and the sacrifice to get to that level then you can open your mouth, he is paid to do that job.
Also mr know it all are you saying that the Qber position is the reason for Amats demise, thats immature once again you are blamming all the wrong things on all the wrong people but its O.K. for you to do this you have no accountability or no responcibility if you say something stupid you can just run away and not look at your computer for awhile, but if your a coach you need to be responcible for what you do and say.
By the way the Qber didnt give up 35 points nor did he fumble the ball in the first Qtr, or drop any pases, try looking at the original point here strength of schedule, now if you can focus on that and what do you think about that.
From what I saw on the highlights the kid is better than 60% of the kids out there, if not call Gano mon morn and let him know, the school secretary will put you right through to his direct line.
And the way I see it no one went after Amats kids those people are leaving on thier own because the ride isnt worth the price of the ticket plain and simple, and im sure were not as good as anonymous and his kids but hey all kids want to win and maybe they arent DI level but why not win a title or at least have a shot.
Actually ive never heard anyone of these so called lower level kids who left Amat, bad mouth Amat or anyone in it, they just want a chance to play plain and simple.
Why would anyone have a problem with a kid just wanting to get on the field unless thier kid wasnt good enough, what about it little boy "anonymous" or did you even play? goosh I think thats it did you even play, ha, ha, ha, im sorry i brought it up.

CO please stop whining about the loss of Snowden. Although he would've made a diffrence, just like two others have said, a good football team doesnt rely on one individual. CO also had Crespo so there is no REAL excuse there.

Yes Randy i agree with you too! Getting Coach Martin is a true blessing and i dont think players or parents could be happier with the results thusfar being that we are so early in the season. Not getting Martin would have been like "The one who got away"..lol
I truly beleive the defense will tighten up by league...but the offense is not shabby . Im pretty excited ..Win or lose!

DBHS, the most improved team in the valley?.....did an actual sports writer give us that tag??? Word up my brutha! We'll take it :)
The Brahmas have GREATLY improved, anyone who follows the Sierra League knows this. They play better offense than they do defense, but they have shown some fight we have haven't seen in a few years. The core group are juniors, they will be back...
They had the ball and were driving in the 4th qtr down by 2 TD's against Temescal Cyn (a D2 semi-finalist who killed them 42-3 in '06)....they were down 14-3 at half against LB Jordan (D1), turned it around closed it to 17-16, went for 2 pts on the conversion but wound one one play short of beating them (we got whooped by a similiar playoff bound Locke team from City section in '06).....and then there was Troy, that Coleman kid is the sh*t! We had them on the ropes, we had it in our grasps! Without Coleman they drop off the map! Troy was also a semi-finalist team last yr in thier division.
We're close, and getting closer....this week is the 'bye', they are 2-3 going into league now, but showing life that wasn't there the last 3 or 4 years...
Coach Martin has those boys moving forward, making progress and getting better each week.....I'm not saying they are gonna win league, hell theres a good chance they won't even make the playoffs, but they are on the warpath, they are on the move, they will need to be DEALT with......And I know EVERYONE in those stands couldn't be prouder of what we are seeing.........Keep Bringing It Brahmas!!!!!!!

It's funny how LA fans come on here and give their expert advise on how their team should have won. You start playing decent teams like SF expect to lose and then you start pointing fingers. It doesn't matter if you have Dan Marino at QB or not, your team would lose when faced with above average competition. Remember opposing teams will stack the box, stop the run, force the pass (nonexistent) and bingo against your one dimensional offense.....there is no balance! Let's hope Mahamud or whatever his muslim name is doesn't get hurt trying to carry his team every week.

Oh SH we're back-don't forget you have a few BA imports yourself. We don't need your QB, we have a QB, what we need is our coach to make some changes. Gano is a smart guy with experience-PRIDE or no pride the fan's expectation is that he will make a change before league and hit you with a QB who will bring it! The dimension is there-he WILL recognize it and go with it. He knew after Spring ball who he should go with, then it would appear there was some recruiting done and now they see that their recruit is not getting it done. Smart Gano is, how flexible is he is the question. Even if he platoons the QBs between the two seniors-that would be a better plan of action than what he has going now. Oh BEWARE SH we will be back-ready to rock and roll week 6! We respectfully look forward to the battle-we will settle it on the field! We appreciate a good opponent and you are one SH!

That's what I'm talking about and so what if no one wants to listen to us now because later you going to feel us whether you like us or not because we're going UP and Los Altos is going DOWN in the rankings and in games. Los Altos you should of also taken one of our Quarterbacks when you raided Bishop Amat of theirs because your situation has gone from bad to worse. Buy a ticket now folks because we are going to get our revenge on EVERYONE except Charter Oak (sorry Skrid) of course because you're not on our schedule and you won't even make the playoffs! OUCH! See you in a few weeks L.A..!

Rooseveltalum,
You make some good points. The first of which is that there is a major problem at the QB position. I will not insult the young man. I will only say that it is obvious to everyone that he is not getting the job done. I will use the Chicago Bears as an example. They went to the big dance last year with their QB. This season he was not getting it done and after a few games he was benched. Change can be a good thing. Lets bring it down to the local HS level, with no disrespect to the schools mentioned. South Hills made a QB change this year and is now reaping the benefits from it. Amat has been steadfast on their chosen QBs each of the last 2 years and has suffered because of it and their unwillingness to change overall. I hope Gano doesn't fall into the same trap.

Attention CO... If you can't block on the o-line it does not make any sense to have your receivers running 10-15 yard routes! Come on! Common sense would tell you to shorten up your routes. Try rolling your QB out instead of tacking sacks or grounding penalties. I know I'm a Monday morning quarterback, but come on....you get the ball back with time on the clock and you can't get any positive yards because of one defensive end (#95). I'll give this, that kid is a stud!
And for all those who say if Kanan played it would have been a different outcome....NO SH%T? AS someone stated in an earlier post, good team find a way to play with what they have. He would have made a difference, but I'm not so sure the score would have been any different. Damien fields a good tough football team and I wish you luck the rest of the year.

rooseveltalum74,
Immediately after reading your comments I knelt down and began to pray and then stood back up and sang the National Anthem. You brought me to tears with what you wrote and I say Amen my Brother!
I also decided to start a petition for you to be hired on Los Alto's coaching staff because you are a genius in terms of high school football.
If we wanted to stage a rally would you be willing to make a guest appearance and say again what you just wrote but this time in front of thousands of people?
I know I feel much better after reading what you wrote and these people are bad and wrong and my sense now is from your comments Los Altos is going to win the SUPER BOWL this year!
You can do it!

To all you monday morn Qbers, its clear that L.A. is having some issues at the top spot o.k. now we know this but show some intellect and a little class.
Calling kids out by name is a tough thing to do especially if your not leaving your name.
Last years kid had one hell of a ride and two grat years to enjoy it.
As far as I can see he is the only one of Gano's Qber's to play a down in a four year university, at that position and he's only a freshmen,
So its easy to see that all these kids at Los Altos have a tough act to follow.
The journey is the key here the, little Qber from last year had a cannon but was too short for Amats greatness so they said thank you to the school and quietly departed and never looked back.
But please remember the kid was a two year starter at AMAT, he wasnt a bench warmer or a kid who played a different position and then transferred, he flat out started as a freshman and as a sophmore, that is the answer here, you need to go with a kid who has started someplace.
Now back to the point the Los Altos loss is not the players fault directly, it is directly related to strength of schedule its that simple you cannot go into this type of game after Damien and thier size and expect to come out healthy, this is a scheduling issue.
Damien should be the first game on the schedule every year, not a cupcake like Rosemead, "sorry to any panthers out there", the cream puffs and the tripe should be after the Damien but before the St Frances game thats plain and simple.
I am not calling anyone out here all im saying is broken legs and kids being carried out is not a heart issue or a toughness issue these kids are the toughest around, its fatigue and not enough rest between title fights, not to mention the strength of the Miramonte league, if your going to play this tough of a schedule you need a lot more depth.
Stop calling kids out unless your going to put your name on this post, and from what I see 4 titles and 5 straight appearance's many playoff wins and several kids playing at the next level hey lets see what happens next, I know we all want success for our team and kids but lets give these guys some respect and some space.
You dads need to chill for a while and see what happens.

for everyone out there who thinks they know how to coach, and or the jealous ones who love to see la lose, they lost one game,if you were at the game, yes they got out played st francis was better than them that day,and if u read the paper that was ganos exact words, no excuses like allways never uses excuses,i to think tamayo needs to improve but as bad as the game was there was a fumble by another player, st francis recovers then scores, then there was a cmpleted pass from tamayo then is fumbled an again they score, gano has more cif titles for the time he has coached than anybody around and we have people who say he cant coach, sure he and all coaches get out coached sometime, and all you peoplr who know exactly what to do to make la better, then you must be going to the games, so please keep going, your support for the program is appreciated.

You're a D1 football school. You're supposed to play high caliber teams.
LA is D6, and has played:
Rosemead - D7
LB Wilson - D1
Damien - D2
St. Francis - D3
Where do you get off talking smack about schedules?

All you CO fans stoping complaining about if Snowden would've played the outcome would've been different. A good teams learns how to cope when players go down plus u people are acting as if damien hasnt loss anyone. They lost Marcus Williams who had a pretty productive season last year and would of had a even beter one this year.

Coach Gano, if you read this.... People always accuse you of not being a good coach, but just recruiting and playing favorites. Now they say you are stubborn and refuse to change. Prove all the naysayers wrong and change the offense. That is the issue.

one day i would just love for the people of BA to ADMIT that they just cant compete at the PAC 5 level...just once....yes they were ONCE dominant but those days are over now you're just your run of the mill type team, just like LA CO and SH.....they're only a handful of teams that are POWERS....MATER DEI, SERVITE, LB POLY, those are powers, yes on any given night anyone can compete but its just ridiculous to think that you can take a season of that, but somehow this makes BA SUPERIOrs to others in the SGV, no it just makes u 3-7 or 4-6 and not playing in DEC....

Agreed Conq Fan. It is a learning experience and I hope the coaches have learned from these last games and make the needed changes. I was at the game and agree the TE should get the ball more. I think the big problem is the QB can't do that consistantly. I also agree that he is not the one for the job in this offense. He did seem to be shaken and lacking confidence. All the balls thrown were high and exposed the receivers to big hits. The offense that coach runs needs a much more athletic QB. Having seen all the QBs available this year and with no disrespect to any, 2 would seem to be the logical choice. Also, there needs to be a deep threat out there that can stretch the field. St. Francis put 8-9# in the box at times and dared LA to throw. Gano is a smart coach and I have faith that he will make the changes to the offense to give them the best chance to win.

tough loss LA but its fine its one of those learning exp. in a suprisingly hostile enviorment. There are bigger issues at hand and this loss isnt the end all. Every week is a learning expierience, the trick is to LEARN!!!!! You all played hard and fought till the end, im sure that the coaches saw some things that they can do better as well. OKAY now that i said that here are some pointers, i just finished watching the highlight tape (and I was at the game), from where i was sitting i couldnt see when 84 caught those two balls but seeing what he did after it amazes as to why he doesnt get the ball more, with a passing game that is practically naught, it seems as though the TE with good hands is a perfect place to go even if he is split out wide (have you seen the chargers?) (or the Browns?), to comment on the reverse that some one brought up, yes ur right a reverse to the TE isnt common but i dont have a problem handing it off to that guy with his pads facing NORTH SOUTH, did you guys see how he dragged the pile and ran over Number 4?, adjustments need to be made and attitudes need to change its a long season and i wish the best to LA, wont be able to cath this weeks game but i will see you at HOMECOMING. GOOD LUCK CONQUERORS!!!!

NOTE TO LA
After watching film on you this year....Tamayo is too short, he is not a threat in or out of the pocket and is not a playmaker. If you decide to stay with him, it won't matter how well Bryce plays. In the end, Tamayo will cost you games, the playoffs and your season. Bryce is great, but he cant always save the day. Thanks in advance for exposing your weakness and for giving the league to us this year.
Sincerely,

Hey hey hey...it's Mark Verti and Tom Salter..aka. The Crew! Hell yeah, we have a nickname now!!! Woo hoo hoo! Wow, what a week! I mean, having an off week has really been great. We hit the strip clubs, uh...I...uh I mean, looked at film...yeah that's right, looked at film. We really made progress with practice this week. I think these little Mexicans could really come close to Mater Dei, maybe like 65 to 14. I really do think we can score 14 points...don't you? Viva Mexilancers!!! Viva Mexilancers!!! Hey John Colt or Joe Colt, whatever the hell your name is...you never got back to us man!!! We were going to go out and party. Why didn't you call? I had some ex-players I wanted you too meet. Now, keep in mind, they spent some time in the joint and they're used to the prison "way of life", and it is a fact they do "like" you, but I'm pretty sure you can fend for yourself. And no no...I know what you public high school people are thinking..."ex cons"...well, so what!?!? I understand Bishop Amat turns out some real winners but come on...we've all spent some time in the joint, right? Don't judge these fine Mexican people. They work hard to keep their yards full of beer cans, have dead grass and have 25 people live in a 2 bedroom house. And I know it's a little shocking to see these people use the sidewalk as a toilet, but come on...we're in L.A. baby...we're used to Mexicans and bad air...oh and Mexicans using the sidewalk as a toilet. Well, back to football. Hmmm...let's see, who do we have next week? Crap, I have to look at my planner. Oh, you should see this planner, it's so cute. It was a great buy at Longs Drugs. You rule, Longs!!! Anyway, if it's an area public school, we will win next week. You know it and I know it! Viva Mexilancers! Well, I would continue but Mark and I (yes, Tom is writing today) have to get going. Our mothers are coming to town and we have to take them out to dinner. Maybe we'll go to Denny's? We'll see. Well, this has been your weekly Bishop Amat update from your friends AND the best high school football coaches to ever live... Mark Verti AND Tom Salter.
Until next week...
MV and TS
'The Crew'
PS: Glenn Martinez and Escalera...come on...where are you Chicanos? We gotta stick together! We need whitie out of Southern California!

Skrid ,
If you're sincere when choosing me a new moniker, I will change my name but until South Hills We're Back..! is what I will go by because the shoe fits and speaking of which Tamayo has too big of shoes to fill compared to other Los Altos Quarterbacks in the past. Amat INSIDER has no reason to lie and knows firsthand Tamayo in his words "SUCKS" or in other words is going to continue to lose games if he has to perform meaning McBride or bust!
LA Let's go,
I feel your pain brother and was there until Bogan made the necessary change at Quarterback and truly believe now we have the right players in the right position to win.
Bottom line: Teams like us (South Hills) and Los Altos we have no excuses because we have the right skill positions and linemen so my point is if and when we fail the coaches are obviously making poor decisions the difference is Bogan put his ego aside and is adjusting his scheme to his players that is why we have won the last couple of weeks and Gano will instead fail because he will refuse to adjust his philosophy.
Oh and Skrid PLAID LAD is right! Make no excuses for Charter Oak tying last night. From what I can tell you got beat upfront which means same old story that is already old news. Charter Oak is going nowhere this year because they do not have an Offensive Line!
Get ready boys because South Hills will end the season where we started #1! I just wish we could of still had a chance to play in the State Championships but that's ok you still can watch us on T.V.!

I don't see how snowden not playing is getting under your skin or CO not making excuses about it. Would it have helped, probably but at the same time it was probably a good thing that they could hang without him. Ties suck!

Response to: No Snowden @ 9/29/07 @ 1:45 PM
Snowden was a factor in the COHS victory over GHS. He proved to be the winning component in a great game that mirrored equals...until the final seconds of the game.
As interesting and exciting as he was to watch...he did not show, place, or win, against the Damien game.
Hence, he was a non-factor in the teams production. Why he did not play?......Only Big Lou and boys can answer that one. If injured and/or sore due to our match-up last week...so be it...I hope he recovers soon to show-case his talents.
To those that continue to bang about his absence...for the sake of creating a "what if theory"...please burn your psych-books.
COHS played as hard as expected against GHS and Damien..enough said.
FYI: Stop making Snowden a factor to your current solutions (or excuses) when he does not participate.

South Hills We're Back & You aint no Castaneda- Hooray! I have to agree with you both.
With all due respect to Gano-he is really making a HUGE mistake at QB. Make a change! What do you have to lose? Looking at the stats-NOT MUCH!
If Gano doesn't make a change, LA is going DOWN! and so is his personal record for making the playoffs. Looks to me like he has another option in #2 OR #19. #2 & 19 were there all summer and then POOF Tamayo from Amat shows up 5'5", weak arm and no moves. It's the fourth game and he just gets his first TD pass. Of course this follows many overthrown passes to wide open receivers in the zone in prior games.
Let's be fair-some of the receivers are lacking too. #11 seems to require a perfect pass to make the catch, although he has the height, he doesn't seem to have the athleticism.
#2 has been at DB, but I have seen him at a couple of practices at receiver and he actually makes some athletic catches. Why isn't he one of the go to guys if you insist on Tamayo at QB? Use that speed. It's my understanding that #1,#2 & #5 are the fastest guys on the team. Get some plays in spread formation and use that speed. Can we have some reverses with this speed? Come on Gano-it aint rocket science, it's just football. And whose bright idea was it to throw a reverse to the tight end? Excuse me but SPEED is a key to a reverse being successful. Are you kidding me?
No disrespect to Ray-you rock in all that you do! go #84-LA loves ya and your aggressive play.
LA loves it team & coaches-can we start to love our coaching in the coming weeks? WAKE UP!
Let's go LA!
