Area's top defensive front players

Above: South Hills' Damon Kuklinski getting ready to make a tackle.

In no particular order, these are the area's top muscle men. Obviously, this is a tough group to pick. There are so many more names that we could have included, but this isn't a bad list to start with. By the way, this list isn't broken down into top linebackers, lineman, etc, just top defensive front guys.

Dominique Austin, Bishop Amat - Could be best of the best. Listed at 6-5, 250 pounds, the Lancers standout is leaning toward Arizona and San Diego State.

Damon Kuklinski, South Hills - He's out with an injury, but he was the Huskies' leading tackler when he went down.

Spencer Stueve, Diamond Ranch -- The senior is averaging 10 tackles per game on one of the area's best defenses.

Chris Kovar, Glendora - All conversations about the Tartans' talented D-Line starts and ends with Kovar, a returning All-Sierra League selection.

Nick Padilla, Charter Oak - Coming off his best game, a three-sack performance in a 50-6 win over Wilson.

Marc Felix, Los Altos - Ray Rodriguez and Josh Contreas should be on this list too, but both are out with season-ending injuries. In any case, Felix is having another great season.

Bronze Withem, San Dimas -- The 5-foot-11, 200 pound senior is averaging 11 tackles per game and has 69, including 39 solo on the season.

Kebin Umodo, South Hills -- The returning All-CIF Southwest Division first-team selection is having another fine year for the Huskies. In fact, the Huskies are loaded with guys on the D-Line.

Andrew Rodriguez, Northview - The Vikings need more tough guys like Rodriguez if they hope to stop San Dimas next week.

John Rabe, Damien -- The Spartans standout is having a great season despite his teams struggles. At 6-5, 260 pounds, should make a great addition at Oregon.

Overlooking BP again I see....hmmmm

Amat 73 I'll be pulling for you guys tonight. Do you still have that open invitation for seeing a Bishop Amat with the Old Timers in the stands?

Would love to see and hear Amat people who love their school----warts and all!

Family is family.

Anonymous,

I got your Lejune hanging.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAH YOUR GRANDMOTHER WEARS COMBAT BOOTS"

I guess GI Joe is on the Shi- list.

"When Johnny come marching home again HOORAH HOORAH"

"It's all over for the Unknown Soldier"

I am War Admiral. I was a Horse at one time.

woooooooooooooooo,

this thread has really gone off topic and has blown to pieces!

Heavens Gate,
Glad you got it , just trying to add a little humor to some nitpicking a_ _ holes out there. It is all in fun .Don't take the comments on here so serious this is just a place to blow off steam and have fun.

Soldiers of Christ. 73 goes yard! THAT WAS FUNNY.

If that's true what is Cardinal Roger Mahony?

Other than a coward.

I have been divorced, twice. Do I combat credit?

Bot you haters out there are amazing. One word and you people turn it around and start bashing. Anything to knock AMAT. By the way we are soldiers, Soldiers of Christ. Now let's hear it on this comment.

Anonymous you are the kind of idiot soldier that gets this country into the mess it's in. STFU you ridiculous blowhard. Couldn't believe it was you who made the "soldier" comments. WHAT an IDIOT you are. And that "I'm a retired" airforce BS is just that. BS. You're just a piece of a machine that hasn't kicked the crap out of ANY third world country in 50 years. Except Greneda. With all those fancy weapons and high tech gear you still haven't learned the better part of valor. Stand up to the president/Politicians and 'TELL THE TRUTH" In every war the truth is the first causalty and IF that statement is true than it CAN NOT be done without the consent and complicity of Generals/"soldiers" who march their funky butts up to Congress with a billboard of distinctions on their chest and LIE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ...WAR AFTER WAR AFTER WAR. Am I lying?

So to the anonymous fool, windbag, moral compass, father of sgv baseball and every other 'medal' on your chest...thanks for the lecture. Be a good soldier and STFU. We civilians with or without your lecture know the diference of war, soldier, fight, die, ect.. Now go back to your trailer and wrap yourself in the flag of stupidity. My flag lets me use language ANY GOD DAMN WAY I PLEASE. (except fire in a crowded theatre and so forth) What do you think just because you did your duty, without a draft, that you somehow are better than anyone who hasn't? Well it doesn't. You served! my hats off to you. I'll buy you a beer. But pick on someone because you did and they didn't and I'll tell you to GFYS! Figure that out soldier, you love acromyms. God bless America, even turds like you. Stand down soldier the fighting is over seas.

keep fighting boys and keep listening to our Commander and Cheif Bush....We have been there long enough, Bring our Men home. We are dying for a bullshit excuse.

Devil Dogs, Semperfi, Leather Necks, Jar Heads. Who GAF

I fought in World War 2 why all this Military nonsense, we are discussing the top lineman. War and discussing where you been as a soldier is a non issue here.

Joey,

Thats what I thought, all talk. Have your 50 cal asswipe? Bring it. Which MEU were you with? Do you even know what that means? Detached with whom? What was you MOS? Any idea poser? I not only served in the current conflict but served in the first one also not to mention Somalia, Bosnia, Panama and Greneda.

I take offense to high school football players being soldiers for obvious reasons and I doubt you have ever even set foot in Lejune.

You sicken me and the corps let alone all branches of the military where real "Soldiers" get dirty.

Joey,

I retired as a Gunny, what was your paygrade dipshit?

How much can these top 10 Defensive players bench and what do they run the 40 in?

EXCUSE ME, BUT ISN'T THIS THREAD ABOUT THE TOP D LINEMAN IN THE AREA? NOT AMAT THE BEAUTIFUL...GEEEZZZZZ

anonymous, STFU you know what the Amat blogger meant. You probably never have been in the military much less ever even seen war. So stick it before I shove my Fifty Caliber up your fat FN ass. Twisting this into a military view...this HS football and as SOLDIER i KNOW THE DIFFERANCE.

The point is that the kids at Amat arent soldiers, they are kids playing a game that has few implications other than the occasional season ending injury. If you cant differentiate between the two then you are full on stupid and live in a glass bubble, thats a fact and no there are no grammar sheriffs since you need to police your own comments and understand respect for true soldiers. The parents can pump them up all day long as something special and tough but the reality is they are then again kids playing a game.

War is not a game and soldiers go to war, nuff said.

A soldier is someone that is sent out to battle in all fazes of war and that includes the gridiron war. A military Soldier is one that battles and protects his country as well as risks his life for it, and we as Americans and Amat Personel have the utmost respect for. Another person just trying to stir up Trouble..WTF are you the grammar police. America The Beautiful. Amat the Beautiful.

RE: Posted by: Mark my words at October 18, 2007 03:07 PM,

The kids on the Amat football team are soldiers? How disrespectful to the true soldiers that are living and dying overseas as I type. The over indulgent "Kids" at Amat have no idea what true combat is, careful how you choose your words.

Difiori bailed and had the last best team Amat had to offer and knew it was going to go thru a rebuiling stage thats why he left. The whole fricken staff at Amat knew we would be going thru a down cycle and the talent base was not there even with the ones that left. Verti was brought in to pull it back up and he will give him time, 2 yrs is not enough time and I know it sucks for the players and parents that are caught up in this transition but the proud thing is altho you are in this down era of Amat football, both players and Parents of these players can still stand proud and say we played for Amat , we may have not won but we were soldiers and proud to represent the Lancers.

Mark my words , maybe so - but Verti is the reason it needs turned around. Before he came on board things were still rolling at a pretty high level

Recruit,

those players know that Los Altos is in a mess right now and they have nothing returning next year. Youare cellar material for next year enjoy what you have now which by the way is not much but McBRIDE. Amat 73, totally agree and I back these men in Blue and Gold to the end win or lose. Same with our coach. Most bash him and give him no respect, but just wait Verti is going to turn things around. He is a good coach. I support him.

Mark My Words,
Good point ,hopefully these players stay the course and be part of our return to the playoffs. Friday's game will be another test for the young good test for our young LANCERS. Let's just stay behind them and give them the support they deserve and need.

To all the bloggers... I am not a Glendora parent but we do know Kathy and Addison dating back from the GJAA days

This kid is very polite and every time I run into him he will say hello with respect...

Kathy, most of us are sorry for your loss and you're doing a great job as a MOM

Mark my words:

Thanks for the list of names from Amat. I will forward right over to Gano so he can start the recruiting process !!!! What about #20 Gaise, herd he can run but Verti never puts him in at O ? I'll just add him to the list also. Thx Again.

Los Altos recruiting dept.

A couple of clips from the Felix file. Los ALtos LB, #35.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34Sod8S4xi8

Fred,

Glendora runs a 3-4 so there's only 3 guys up front anyway. The other end, #25 Bowdry, actually is having as good or better year than Kovar. More tackles and 3 sacks (Kovar 0 yet, but that should change). Horn plays on the line much of the time in a flex position and he's the most decorated player on D. He got off to a bit of a slow start this year, nagging physical issues contributing I'm sure, but remember him come post season.

Stand up kid @ 1:36 AM? Give us a break. DAD! We are not stupid, what a phony post, Ha Ha Ha...

Juniors,Creager,Seals,Prieto,Lenhart,Price,Teter,Loera and Darian Johnson will carry this Amat team next year, they are young and starting right now, very scary to see them as seniors and juniors next year, thats when Amat will reach the playoffs, but this year is not too far fetched either. Senior,#81 Julian Silva is as good as they come, he is doing some good things as a down defensive lineman as well as a good blocking TE. This guy does not get the credit he deserves over at Amat. Pretty good wrestler to boot.

Fred
When can we get a skilled player's list?

FANatic is on the Blog!

That away Addy! You are a good young man with plenty of Talent.

This blog isn't for the light of heart or thin skin. Some haters use this bog and subsequently, the kids to relieve their inner frustrations. I guess you can call it, emasterb*****!

Congratulations to you and the "Hoss" McGarry for an exception game against the big guys at Damien. And, congrats to DREW for making the Tribune's CIF palyer of the week! Very well deserving! BTW, Fred, Drew is a JR not SR this year. Thats right, one more year of greatness! Perhaps you might make him SGV #1 QB going into next season!

FANatic has left the Blog... actually, I'll be monitoring as I always do!!!!

I did a scout report on a few teams during Spring Ball. And this tall kid with curly hair stood out. He had size, feet and great hands. When I mentioned he was pretty special at the time someone from Glendora said he was soft and had played JV his jr. year. I knew those were the comments of an idiot but I still thought "LOOK OUT THIS KID IS GOING TO SURPRISE PEOPLE!" I've seen him play 3 times this year, AND HE'S BEEN EXCEPTIONAL every time. Last week I mentioned how he would have a war against Damien and was told that it was an insult to mention #78 in the same sentence with Rabe. Whatever I just considered the source and prepared to see him shine. Like i said at the time "My money is on the late bloomer." Every time I see his parents, the jersey gives them away, I see happy people who are proud of their son. After #78 went to war and won against the Spartans I told his mom, who was parked near me, that her son was a special player. Today I can say he is a special person and son as well. Coming on here to defend Mom is major in my book. Hats off to you #78. Your parents should be proud as are your friends. It is a pleasure watching you dominate and push Dline to the ground. That's why they'll come looking to sign you come Signing Day. I think you're the best interior linemen in the SGV, but what do I know. Last year Damien was filled with late bloomers in DT Luetin and DE Walsh and they had their special season. Best of luck kid. You have many more games to play and most of them will be on Saturdays.
LINEMEN RULE!

Hey Anonymous (and a few other names) who keeps telling Fred "great list" "these are the ten best" "blah, blah, blah". You got your son on the list now, isn't that enough? Don't keep trying to reinforce it. Oh, and mr. "I don't have a horse in the race, but..." Yeah, right! Same Dad I bet.

Thats right. sh d line is packed with skill.

my name is addison bachman and i am glendora's strong tackle. i have never bloged on this site befor but i do read it weekly.. my mother who has the most class around who is still suffering from the loss of her son could care less about this websight.. or want to put down a 17 year old player who happens to be my fellow freind. she doesnt even like me to be on this sight for this reason. i prove my case on the feild not what people rank me or have to say about ME but please keep my mother out of this you have no right.. blog about sports not who "you" think wrights the blog entrys. thank you congradulations to the DEFENSE OF PLAYERS..

late, addison bachman #78

Fred,

this is a great list!

That's great to hear

FRED,

Damon Kuklinski was 1st team all league last year and second team all CIF Southwest Division.

Good news: He'll be back real soon.

# 78s mom. Get some class

#74
Keep your chin up.
When people say rude things you have to consider the source. Dont let ignorant statements by stupid people get you down.

you dont have to say i suck just because im fat.

-Joe COlt, Big Daddy

I Kno That This Is a Defensive of Thing, But Ive Been Looking At the COLTS O-Line and That Kid Julian Flores is an over looked player, same thing goes for that kid WIllie Vess im pretty sure vess is the only returning starter from last years line, just observing from the stands it looks like those two are players to be looked at.Both Vess and Flores Have Played together On The Same O-Line for 6 Years and kno the line very well.

# 78 thats Addison bachman yes? assuming by " o-line d-line" stats at 6'4 250 and the way he handled damien along with big hoss mcgarry both deserve to on that list #74 damien just used his weight no sign of him on this list

# 78 thats Addison bachman yes? assuming by " o-line d-line" stats at 6'4 250 and the way he handled damien along with big hoss mcgarry both deserve to on that list #74 damien just used his weight no sign of him on this list

Fred>>>>

This is a good list. You can only include 10 names and you choose the cream of the crop. Every name on this list is representitive of the best D-Line players in the area. I have no horses in this race, but I have seen most of these guys play or have friends you have seen them play. They are tops!

Very good choices!

Ryan Diaz from West Co, as good as any lineman on that list.

McGarry is 5'11" and 290 lbs, that kid shouldnt worry about playing football and get a better diet before he checks out at 40 to 50 yrs of age, thats sad.

at 5'11 290 and 6'4 250 jared mcgarry and addison bachman are a given not to mention matt schmitz 6'6 320 with out those name list wouldnt be complete lets here them freddy

Big Daddy,

I agree, Arrant and Vess need to looked at when this list is compiled...

Joe Colt

you guys are all abunch of crybabies

FYI, I have no problem with anyone saying Freddy screwed up, he messed up or has no idea what he's talking about. But I will continue to delete comments with profanities, and particularly the F-word.

Dominique and his family have already made their decision and are just getting everything finalized. He's signing to SDSU

I hear ya Joe. I'm glad this thread is up. I know there are several other standouts from teams that we haven't covered as thoroughly because their teams aren't having a great season. I'd love to hear about those players too.

Neither Charles Shorts nor Jazz Daniels made this list?

I thought one or possibly both would be a given...

We may not be the VVL powerhouse this year but you certainly shouldnt overlook individual achievements, I hope our Covina O Linemen get some love Fred...

Joe Colt

TOP O-LINEMAN MUST INCLUDE MCGARRY FROM GLENDORA

"***Area's top defensive front players***"

Seals is not "on the defensive front". Good player...his time will come.

Fred...forgive them, they know not what they say!

Fred,
Your doing a great job. Here are some name to get started on for next week O-Lineman. Willie Vess and Rod Arrant from Covina.
Keep doing what you do.

great list fred! These guys are truly awesome players.

That is good list of players. But you have to start to factor in Brent Seals from Bishop Amat High School. He is only a junior, but he si 6 ft 1/ 190 pds and is averaging over a dozen tackles a game. Last year as a sophomore, he had 60 tackles playing both Strong Safety and Linebacker for Amat. He also had 3 interceptions. Already getting looks from the major pac-10 schools.

Don & JFR - Awesome! Fred - special teams - beautiful!

But how about Mascots and cheerleaders. Don had them factored into his Top Ten formula.

Work - hopefully, not another day in my life!

GREAT LIST FRED! YOU ARE RIGHT ON!

Interesting you'd mention Felix before Longoria for LA.

There are lots of guys not on here that are deserving. Thanks for mentioning Jazz Daniels, he's someone I overlooked. What I did last year was make a list of all the guys mentioned in blogs for end of the year considerations. Every little piece of info helps, and since most of you follow a certain team and watch the same players every week, your input helps. I take some of these names and ask the coaches about them to see if their legit, and find out how they did in all league and all CIF. So, if you've got someone you want us to consider, please leave names.

Sorry big daddy, Shorts and Daniels may have been starters for a while, but have done absolutely nothing at Covina. Even their coaches admit that. Maybe it is the coaches to blame? They are big, but the aren't a factor ever.

Fred
It is unfair and rude how some of these so called experts comment on your picks. As if, they have all the right answers and see every game. Shamefull!! Will there be a best ball boy list soon? If so, does it include the stat girls and the guys who hold the sticks?
OFS

Fred,
Work??? What's that?? Look man I know that you forgot to put Jazz Daniels #14 and Charles Shorts #31 from Covina on this list. Dsepite Covina's play they still are some of the best in the area. Daniles has been starting since he was Fresman and Shorts since he was a Sophmore. Studs true Studs.

And for the nut who keeps asking about the O-lineman, that's comming next week. I already asked and Fred promised he would do it. I know that NV and Covina has to get on that list.

If you do that fred I will drive to get the daily bulletin.

How about a list of best special team players

Fred, are long snappers going to be included on your o-line list.

Your doing fine fred, keep it up.

How about Salter from Damien?

Man, does anybody work? I go to lunch and this thread is blowing up when I get back. If I missed some people, name them, that's what this is for, to talk about all the guys you don't usually see in game stories but you know make all the difference in the world...

Freddy,

Good list. Thanks for giving some love to the guys up front who come home every friday night with the bumps and bruises.

I've seen most of these big boys play on your list. They all belong on the list!!

So, Freddy, who are the best PAT holders in the Valley?

hey 10/16 @12:52... who is #31 on covina
LET ME TELL YOU.. i saw last weeks game against N-VIEW, and #31 was all over the field. you could tell that in between plays he was tired, BUT that kid was playing with heart the whole game
HE WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Rolling on the floor laughing my f&$%(#@ a++ off

aka: hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

DON, ROTFLMFAO???

You know that you always have to be careful using the statistics given by a HS football team to make up your mind about who is doing what. They are usually kept by a player's Mom or girlfriend and as such are open to broad interpretation.

Ya know?

Fred,
I saw this guy make a great tackle last week and then he started jumping up and down and screaming, why isn't he on this list?
I think some people live to make your life miserable Fred, keep drinking from the bottle and let it slide. Oh yeah, when can we expect the top ten holder and kicking tandems

ROTFLMFAO

hey FRED just wonderin, is this all your input?, Or did you ask the coaches around the area as well?

Hey Fred, Don't sweat it! You are NEVER going to make all these dads happy wanting their son's name mentioned somewhere on this blog. I think you did a good job with this list.

Fred,

I think some people live to make your life miserable Fred, keep drinking from the bottle and let it slide. Oh yeah, when can we expect the top ten holder and kicking tandems

hey fred,
it should be broke down to, under 200lbs. between 200-250, 250 and over
lol me and my big mouth

I'll stand on McQueen for a down lineman in D. Want more? Ask Coach P and Morrison about the C O DE's, Perri and Williams.

If you want LB's you could do worse than the Lengyel kid at Diamond Ranch. Two way guy, good size, and as the ole Bear used to say, “mobile, agile, and hostile”. The boy is always looking for someone to put on the ground.

What are Tight ends?

Yes, other than the DBs. I get the hint, next time I'll be more specific. Should I break the Olineman into guards, tackles and centers??? Forget I said that, it will just be an OLine list if that's okay with all of you.

RE: Fred @ 11:53
fyi: This is an all encompassing defensive line list
Other than the DBs, This is the best player on the D list.

Padilla's a linebacker

BTW, I looked in the archives and found Aram's linebacker list from July. I forgot that he did one, so lets use this space to talk about all the best guys on the defensive front. By the way, I've been getting several great email suggestions on Olineman for next week. When it comes time for all-area, obviously the OLine is the toughest area to choose. This is when we really rely on coaches.

Fred
I just lost mine

sorry about the mistakes guys, doing too many things this morning. See what happens when you call in sick on Monday...I need lunch.

FRED,

STILL HAVE NILES IN DISCRIPTION PORTION FOR CHRIS KOVAR. HOW ABOUT WITHEM AND RODRIGUEZ? ARE THEY GOING TO MAKE YOUR LIST?

What posistion does Nick Padilla play since were adding in LB's? cuz im confused

Why hasnt the Huskies used the sophmore that everyone calls money. I am hear he is the one that made the QB that left look good and as a reciever he was their leading scorer on the freshman team last year, and he is a linebacker. Is it true he was a three sport letterman his freshman year in football, wrestling and baseball. Is this another clever sceme by Bogan to protect the teams future for next year?

What posistion does Nick Padilla play since were adding in LB's? cuz im confused

I never did a top linebacker list

Hard to pick this list, especially since each team keeps it's own stats; harder yet to pick O-linemen since there is little in the way of performance standards to measure skills by. I'll just go by the ooohhh factor and suggest you consider:

Reuben McQueen, Bonita 6-3, 250 Leads team in emotion and sacks, third in tackles

And yes, I meant to put Kovar, got my notes all screwed up.

Kovar was all league? Did not know that.

FRED,

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TOP 10 DEFENSIVE LINEMAN LIST. WE ALREADY HAVE SEEN A TOP 10 LINEBACKER LIST. NILES/HORN/YOUNG WAS ALREADY ON THAT LIST.

ARN'T THERE ENOUGH TRUE D-LINEMAN TO MAKE A TOP 10 DEFENSIVE "LINEMAN" LIST AS YOU ADVERTISED.

Horn plays a position called "Tartan"...a mix of linebacker/lineman. Your discription of ALL Sierra League returning "lineman" probably belongs to Defensive End - Kovar

fYI: This is an all encompassing defensive line list...not breaking it down into linebackers, lineman, etc...

605 Fan
Barbone and McBride will be on the O-Line list

Come on Fred, get it right. Withem and Rodriguez are LBs, not DL.

When can we get a list of top O linemen?

Fred,

Kovar fits the All League discription (Glendora D-Lineman) you gave Niles. Niles is a LB

All Sierra league? That would be Horn.

Fred,
Niles is a linebacker. Are you thinking of Kovar or Bowdry?
