Breaking News update: Diamond Ranch will forfeit all five wins, including both Miramonte league wins

LATEST: Because of an ineligible player, Diamond Ranch, which was in prime position to make a run at the Miramonte League title, is now fighting for its playoff life. The school learned of an ineligible player, and reported itself to CIF, thus forfeiting all wins up to this point, including both Miramonte League wins over Bonita and Los Altos. Diamond Ranch was 5-2 and 2-0, and now will be 0-7 and 0-2, according to CIF spokesperson, Thom Simmons. Simmons also informed me that they have received the paperwork requesting a hardship for the player who Diamond Ranch has declared ineligible. Simmons said typically, it takes 7-10 days for CIF to make a determination on his eligibility.

On Wednesday, The Pomona Unified School Disctrict released this statement
When a student transfers to another high school and wants to compete in athletics, the proper transfer-eligibility paperwork has to be filed with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). It was discovered late Tuesday afternoon that in the case of one Diamond Ranch High School (football) player that didn’t happen. As a result, the Panthers must now forfeit their two league wins, and it’s not yet known whether that player will be given permission to play in the team’s remaining games, pending a hardship application.
“This was our mistake entirely,” said Principal Monica Principe. “The rules are very clear and we just didn’t follow up to make sure CIF had received the paperwork we sent, and they say they didn’t. We’re terribly sorry for disappointing our players, their families, our students, and all the fans.”
Diamond Ranch still has two Miramonte League games left, and could still be playoff- eligible, depending on the results of those games and on the end-of-season decision by league members on which teams to send to the playoffs.
“We have personally delivered the required paperwork to CIF today, and are hoping to find out by Friday if this student will be allowed to play in the remaining games,” said Principe.

As a result, the Miramonte League standings are as follows.
Bonita 2-0
Charter Oak 1-0
Los Altos 1-0
Diamond Ranch 0-2
Wilson 0-2

Hey John,
If those better schools in the are like LA, CO, S. Hills wont play Amat! Only DR has stepped up. Then you must be the only moron on the planet that thinks the San Dimas' Azusas' Glendoras' or Baldwin Parks' would play us. Damian doesn't even want to play Amat anymore!

Hey DR PANTHER fans and parents,
Ignore all the negative comments from these jealous people. That is truely what they are jealous and envious. I know from past experiences myself. I know your coach is not recruiting. DR got players from Amat, but so did Los Altos with McBride, So. Hills with Wells both Amat transfers and other schools throughout the valley got players transfers from Amat. Due to Amat's lack of success and poor coaching. They're just trying to rub it in. They don't talk about Chino Hill's coach going to schools and youth football programs giving kids there t-shirts, hats and recruiting them. I'm going to put it our there because I've seen it for myself. DR has alot to be proud about. You have a new coach that I feel is promising! DR plays a tough schedule. Not like the rest of the valley playing weak schedules. My advice to the DR people is to keep that St. Paul guy outta there so he doesn't recruit anymore of your players. They took Haynes your former tailback from DR. Yes, I'm gonna put it out there again. I know for a fact St. Paul recruited Haynes as well as the qaurterback from So. Hills. You don't hear about that, huhh? hahaha! DR PANTHERS all these people crying are all the people you beat or are going to beat, lol. They hate to see you on top. Get use to it. When your #1 everyone's gunning for you. -Bishop Amatster

Hey Amat Guy,
Are you serious Coach Spoon a Head Coach? That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Maybe a pop-warner, Jr. All American, Bassett HS, or Mt. View HS as a head coach, but never a pack5 school. He's a position coach if that at this level. Amat needs to bring in the offensive co-ordinator from Mater Dei, St. Boneventure Head Coach or Head Coach Agguire who won a couple of city titles while at Carson High. These are all guys that interviewed for the job, but were denied. These guys have proven themselves at the highest level of high school football and that have been head coaches. You can't keep grandfathering in head coaches. Look where we are at right now with DiFiori and Verti. -Amatster

Hey John,
Are you kidding me? Charter Oak will never play us again after that devistating blow about two years back. Coach Farrar wants no part of it! Los Altos is still feeling the pain we brought upon them back in the 80's when the great Coach DeSpain stated to the editor of the Tribune "Amat's players hit too hard!" The South Hills coach turned down Amat's Coach Verti's invitation this year and to my surprize Diamond Ranch with the new Head Coach and all was the ONLY ONE in the entire VALLEY that has the courage to play Bishop Amat. It's probably why their the team the Tribune talks about the most and probably why their the only team in the valley with a tough schedule other than Amat. I see bright things in the future for DR as they continue to play big schools. Their is a big talent pool in that area. The only teams in the valley playing more than one pack5 school in a schedule is DR and Amat. The pack5 speed and level is a step above the lower divisions in the valley. Coach Farrar of Charter Oak knows better. His CO played one of Amat's below average teams about two years ago and they got shut out. Those schools like Los Altos, CO, So. Hills are doing well, but they are not playing anybody. Bishop Amat is losing more so due to coaching, but they still have players. No high school in the valley wants to play Amat. I wish to God some of these area schools would play Amat. So we could humble the entire valley, but like I said they keep dodging Amat and we keep going elsewhere to find teams that will play us. We would love to stay local and play the best in the area, but its not going to happen. No coach wants to take that risk. Besides who wants to ruin their season by losing to Amat that probably wouldn't even win a league game in their division. I can picture for example Amat going 1 and 9 on the season and beating a team like Charter Oak that goes 13 and 1 in their division and their only loss to Amat, haha. This year I saw the Los Altos vs So. Hills game and know for a fact sorry Bishop Amat would still beat both those teams. Amat's much bigger, faster, smarter and more agressive to the point that coaching wouldn't even matter. That's how much of a difference. Hopefully, Amat brings in a new regime to take over, maybe some of these players will stay, get developed & things will turn around! -Amatster

I never really heard of Diamond Ranch until last year when they beat Los ALtos. I saw it as a fluke when I read the paper. Now all the Tribune talks about is Diamond Ranch.

panther guy, you hit it on the head resources! if the AD wasnt having to do every other job in the school he would have had the time to do his own job and check to make sure CIF recieved the paper work. the school and the district should be ashamed of themselves. what a blow not only to the kids, coaches and parents, but to the school spirit and program that coach layton has begun to build. i too have known coach layton for many years and to say he would go those lenghts to get a win is just plain stupid.

Duarte would beat lp this friday

OVERSIGHT....that is a great word for the Tribune to live by as they exclude Diamond Ranch from any honest competition achieved by other SGV teams with rankings. The Tribune will gain credibility on their weekly rankings or fold under the pressures to those that subscribe to their paper.

Funny. Amat watched your "ineligible student" leave angry because he wasnt getting playing time being behind Dorian Wells and Sheldon Price. So much for your "can't afford it" theory!

It really pains me to see the number of ignorant comments made by people who think they know what is going on. It must be easy to label people as cheaters and classless when, in fact, you really know nothing about the situation. It looks like nothing more than sour grapes to belittle people that you do not even know while putting in your two cents on a subject that you think you understand. It is true that the paperwork was not taken care of properly and hence DR technically used an ineligible player. It is also true, however, that this player lives in the DR boundaries and was forced to leave his previous school for financial reasons. This hardly makes DR a "recruiting" school as some have stated. This is just a bad circumstance created by an oversight. For others to claim "cheating" and attack the character of a school, its coaches, and its administration is truely classless. Maybe you would prefer to have Garey back in your league so you can make your playoff plans in August, but I for one think DR make the league more competitive, which can never be a bad thing. I do agree that it is ultimately the coach's responsibility to make sure that the team he is fielding is eligible, whether it be with regards to grades or transfers, or whaterver. However, I personally know Coach and Layton and I know that nobody feels worse about this situation than he does. I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season, and I hope the best thing is done for all involved.

Sorry to say... LAYTON DID NOT DO HIS JOB!

MAKE SURE THE TRANSFER IS DONE RIGHT!

TAKE FULL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR NOT FOLLOWING UP BEFORE FIRST KICK OFF!

END OF STROY COACH-YOU SCREW UP BIG TIME

panther guy,
your the first to step up from dr, very classy of you, agree with you on everything you said including you have a good coach, i really hope you rub off on some of the other parents, nice win last night.

TO ALL PANTHERS,

REMEMBER THAT YOU REPRESENT THE SCHOOL AND YOURSELF EVEN BY POSTING WITHOUT A NAME.

SHAME ON ANYONE SAYING ONE WORD ABOUT THE LA KID THAT HURT HIS LEG. FOR THAT MATTER SHAME ON THOSE THAT SAID DR WAS GOING FOR THE KNEES.
THAT PLAYER PROBABLY HAD THE BEST RUN THIS YEAR AGAINST DAMIEN. HE IS SPECIAL. HOPE HE GETS A SCHOLARSHIP.

WHOEVER POSTED THE INFO REGARDING A MEETING BY COACHES RIGHT AFTER THE GAME, R U SERIOUS?????

OR JUST BEING SARCASTIC?? I TRULY COULD NOT TELL, SERIOUSLY. PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS

OH YES LIKE DR IS THE ONLY TEAM WITH SOME KIDS THAT TALK TRASH??? WE KNOW THAT EVEN THE FOLKS BY FOOTHILL BLVD DO THEIR FAIR SHARE AS WELL. WE JUST MIGHT NOT BE AS SMART IN HOW WE DO IT, LIKE RIGHT IN FRONT OF A REF.

ALSO, THE COACH AT LA IS A VERY GOOD HEAD COACH REGARDLESS OF WHERE HE GETS HIS PLAYERS, SAME AT CO, EVEN BONITA ALTHOUGH THEIR SPREAD OFFENSE IS SUSPECT. SHOW THOSE GUYS SOME RESPECT THEY HAVE EARNED IT.

LAYTON HAS EARNED SOME BUT STILL IS ONLY BEEN HEAD GUY FOR WHAT 2 YEARS? HE HAS DONE A GOOD JOB CONSIDERING THE RESOURCES HE GETS FROM THE SCHOOL AND THE POMONA DISTRICT.

PANTHER GUY

Coach Spoon is a yeller and screamer. He know the game but not on a full scale approach. He is two cans short of a six pack and could never be a head coach at any level. If you are a really good coach you should be able to take the reins of a head coach. A line coach or a reciever coach or a special teams coach unless he exceptional is not head coaching material...Spoon looks like a bulldog with all bark no bite. not the shapest tool in the shed by any means.

Hey Amat Guy,

This whole program needs to be evaluated. Even Coach Spoon, what has he done. Past Frosh coach with Junior All American Experience. We need to look at all the coaches and if Coach Spoon is qualified than he stays.

As for schedules, Amat has always played tough schedules. This probably is not the toughest that they have played either. Where is Mater Dei, Servite, Bosco and so on. Cucamonga is not at that level and neither is Los Osos. Carson and St. Paul are not what they used to be either. What I was saying this is one of the toghest schedules but Amat should be sitting at 5-2 right now instead of 2-5. When was the last time we lost to Alamany. That is embarassing, i hear kids are taking themselves out of the game. Wow, that is a coaching thing. It starts from the top, that kid should not be wearing the Blue and Gold and that comes from Verti. Lets look at the Carson game, inside of the 10 three times and not getting anything. St. Paul, a lucky win. Yes lucky, we had a chance to win it with time running out but instead of going for the chip shot field goal when the ball was inside of the 2 Verti decides he is going to ram it down their throat and gets stopped. So we need to go three OT's to win. Unbelievable coaching!!!! and dont tell me we don't have a kicker, good coaching makes a kicker, there is always a soccer kid at Amat that can be converted, we have been doing it for years.

Oh yeah Amat Guy, here comes the tough part of your schedule. As for the guys that are looking to see who Amat is scheduling for next year, if Verti returns we need to stay withing the La Puente Area. That may net 3 wins!!!!! And that is not LA, CO and SH....

Amat needs to look at next years schedule and put themselves in a position to take over the San Gabriel Valley. They need to go public and call out South Hills, Los Altos, Charter Oak and Diamond Ranch. You want to be the best go after the best in the valley first.

This Amat alumni goes back many years and has watched a lot of games and played in some big time games and before you call someone and idiot get your stuff straight.

u guys are all garbage quit trying to live ur high school carrer again and lets us play football who cares about this stufff... really

you rookies dont remember the bad old days before th royal/charter oak merge. RO dominating CO , CO led by the likes of Coach Davis, then along cme Lou an company and all tht pain for the rest of montview lg.Had 3 sons and 3 grnd sons(1) still doin it. its great to be Charger, fite on lou and co

A lot of people were saying that this isn't fair to the kids, but remember last year when Bonita stuffed DR at the goaline to win the game and then lost the playoff spot to DR and LA because OF A COIN FLIP! Now that is something that is definitely not fair to the kids. You can say what you want about Gano, Farrar and Layton, Podley has been a true class act this whole time and you never hear about Bonita getting any transfers, but they still find a way to compete against teams that recruit

dear mr amatalum , very nice stats you brought up and im sure alot of us were not aware and of amats current situation. i really hope for a turaround of power at amat to show that the san gabriel has a representive by its pac-5 standards. ps cheers for dorian wells

DR people talking smack about an injured player??? your kidding?? they wouldn't stoop that low would they? being the rotten, cheaters that they are? say it isn't so Pomona Panthers!!! You have 2 chumps to hurdle coming up (wilson and nogales) then CO "chokes" you out again, just like last year! Enjoy the holidays at home, GOBBLE GOBBLE!

when it all shakes out class will tell..Big Lou equals winner. No more sniveling tightin yur lid and hangon.

panther fan.
showing your lack of class AGAIN. how dare you talke about the kid who got injurerd, gaurantee you there is not a nicer kid around, the more you people speak the worst you look, the only positive about this is, now you guys are the one no one respects as humans, we know you kids are good, we know your coach is good, but your class and respectr or off the map...

john,
You want to get rid of Coach Spoon? You're an idiot. And there are some good coaches on that staff that belong in the program at whatever level. Look at their backgrounds, talk to the parents like me. Theres more coaching than you think. And we have never had a tough schedule like this.

Sounds like, someone has been drinking "HaterRade"
I must say that everyone has lost force on the real situation at hand and that would be the children. As for the "grown man" that have made negative comments toward DR players. It makes me wonder how did you or your child performed!!!! Where do you stand in all this? Let the record be set that no matter what happens, WE ARE ALL STILL AWARE WHO'S THE BETTER TEAM IS, IN THIS LEAGUE, and in time we will see.
I would tell my players keep your heads up and stay force. I'll be back next week to see what everyone has to say. AND BY THE WAY LET OC KNOW, WE ARE COMING TO PLAY. SO PLAY HARD OR GO HOME!!!!

GO BIG BLUE.

Our coach is a class act- he had nothing to do with the error caused by the AD - he blew his top playing LA becuase of a late hit that was not called, injuring one of his players. He takes care of his kids. no shame there. What is sad is when people make excuses for losing. We accept our fate and will move on. Our kids are looking forward to playing Wilson HS tonight and finishing the remainder of the season undefeated-

Call it how you want but when the clock struck 0:00 there were alot of tears in the stands and on the field...although a loss now on paper..but plain and simple you got beat..you know you thought about it all the way home...just knowing that you were crying and couldn't sleep that night is the best pleasure of all...we'll just have to see next year again..love the competition...aren't football fans great..and yes, smash mouth..ask your running back how if felt..probably still feels it hurt..

oops wrong thread, ignore the second last blog.

A win is a win. If it was not that paticular player that caught the winning touchdown pass, then it would have been another. I seem to recall another deep pass resulting in a touchdown in that game. And it wasn't the same player that caught it. LA did not even take the lead in the game until the DR coach gave you 30 yards in penalties that resulted in LA scoring. The panthers answered each time that LA took the lead. The better team won on the field.

His name is Stremple. His other son played with mine on the last League Championship team in 2001 with McCleskey, Lange, Simon, Walker et al.

Regarding the freshman to senior class issue. The Amat senior squad when they were freshmans in 2004 (Wells, McBride, Bonilla, Maciel, Saenez, Crespo, Wagner, Ray, et al), beat:

Vista 18 - 7
Charter Oak 40 - 0
Glendora 32 - 0
Valencia 46 - 14
Loyola 21 - 14
S. Margarita 13 - 7
Servite 34 - 7
Mater Dei 0 - 0 tie

Hmmmm....tied Mater Dei who is the #1 team in the state, beat Vista who beat a good Mission Viejo team, beat Servite who is a top 10 team in the state, and beat the crap out of current SGV superpowers CO and Glendora.

So you can imagine what this current senior squad combined with a talented junior squad was capable of in Pac5 competition. What they would have accomplished this year with a good competent coaching staff leaves much to my imagination. The entire SGV would have been proud and envious of us.

Unfortunately, administration, attrition, grades, disciplinary issues, tuition would not let us have our cake and eat it too.

Boltman

What a bunch of slop. DR has a fine, young and aggressive program and despite this unfortunate event, by all indications, Coach Layton has done some fine work, but he hasn't won anything yet.

No way this DR team beats the Cody led or Harwell led teams Gano posted true championships with. To label Layton's "coaching abilities" superior to Gano illustrates a very immature attitude and a lack of history.

But be that as it may, when Layton beats El Dorado this year to claim his first, (not fourth) chamoionship, I will be impressed. Heck I will be impressed if DR loses to ELDO by only a singe touchdown like LA did last year with a less than historically stellar Conq team.

Panther fan, that was real smash mouth as Los Altos had the win with 34 sec. on the clock. No one fears your team. Yes the hail mary worked for you but to who?....thats right the enelgible player.....sorry for your 0-2 start then the upcoming loss to CO you are done and home for Thanksgiving Turkey, Turkey!

Sounds like, someone has been drinking "HaterRade"

I see all this blaming of other coaches for turning in DR but the reality is the Coaches and AD at DR are the ones to ensure the players eligibility. The AD shuld be in contact with CIF constantly in regards to transfer students. I know LA and CO have had players sit until they had been cleared. Lets face it we are in an era of tranfers.

As for Amat and their lack of being able to recruit, recruiting goes on at all schools for one reason or another. Parents normally send their kids to a school for a reason weather it be sports or academics. Amat has normally drawn the top athletes for one reason or another but there has been a change of late where they have been loosing players. A coaches name will help in drawning the top athletes such as the Amat Girls Basketball and the Baseball team. Coach Verti's two years have been horrible, more losses than ant two combined years. We Lancer alumni and fans know that they play probably one of the toughest schedules in Southern California, BUT we always have. Players have transfered in and out for one reason or another this year and Verti has no control of the team. I have heard there is somewhere around 15 athletes that have transferred from Amat this year. This was supposed to be Amats year, that was the message that Verti said last year. A coach should never blame youth one year because what happens is what happened to Verti this year. (egg on his face)

I understand that the kids are leaving football because of the lack of help in the recruiting process. (I have heard this time and time again) If you go onto Amats wed site they list 23 football players playing college football none from last year, doesn't that sound strange, there were talented players. When the Head coach has connections and is respected as a coach that gets the kids ready for the next level by colleges, parents hear this and they will send there kids. Parents want whats in the best interest of their kids. If I had a son and he was 6-2, 225 lbs and had aspirations of playing college football, would I send him to Verti or to Gano. No brainer there and I am an Alumni and Fan. If Amat would give the job to someone who was respected in the community and Southern California they would be back on top. The Lower level teams are always strong but keeping that talent base has been tough these past two years.

Look at Orange Lutheran. Players are flocking there for a chance to play, they have three QB's deep that can play the game. Where do teams like USC go to for their talent. Amat was a hot bed for them. OL, Mater Dei and Servite all have respected coaches and the players come and those are not cheap schools.

Msgr. Carroll needs to make a big decision in a couple weeks. Does Verti stay or Go??? I personally would like to see McCutcheon take over the program, keep coach Taylor and the rest should go. Some lower level coaching should stay. These two know the tradition that has built Amat. Coach Parker should stay and continue what he does on the lower level, instill the pride andtradition.

IF AMAT BRINGS IN SOME TOP COACHING THAN WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE RECRUITING VIOLATIONS FROM THE LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

It is a shame what happened to our Mighty Panthers !!!!!!But life goes on..Thousands of people have lost their homes and sadly to say LIVES these past few days in the wildfires. I hope that we keep this in mind as all our childredn take to the feilds this week..We are very fortunate that we can still play this great game of FOOTBALL. Panthers keep your head up high and remember that you still are and will be the Powerhouse in the SGV..People are afraid of you and your hard charging smash mouth football...People will always bring their 'A' game when playing the PANTHERS. We must move forward and look to the future..We will not be able to change what happened but hope that we all learn from our mistakes..we play as a team and we lose a team but in the end we are one STRONG family...

JCAZ,

That would be intresting to see if that freshman team stays together til their senior year, our 2004 team did not and now look at what we are doing, Losing and blaming our coach. It is all about talent and if you keep it and groom it for four years they will be a contending team come seniors. With all the recruiting and players moving to other schools for more playing time it is tough to groom a team for 4 years but it still does happen at certain schools. One example of this type of school, that contends year in and year out is The La Habra Highlanders. They are always playoff bound, and they have their Freshman, JV and Varsity all undefeated right now unless they took a loss yesterday. They have a great Pop Warner program they draw from The La Habra Lions and they just keep turning it over year after year. Amat has no such luck and WC, SH, Covina and Los Altos all fight over the JAA talent base that surronds them. To answer your other question his name is Robert Streple and he runs with the flag. He has put three sons thru Amat and they all played football. One of the nicest Gentleman you want to meet. He bleeds Blue and Gold. Beat the Celts!

Correction: LAYTON beat Gano on the field.

BoltMan...

How right you are, Podley did beat Gano on the field...WITH AN ILLEGAL PLAYER CATCHING THE GAME WINNING TOUCHDOWN! Take him off the field and Los Altos wins that game! Then what does that do to your rant?

For those that accuse a rival coach for leaking info to DR or CIF. Face it, no team in the league would have let the other run the table if they were breaking the rules and had proof. DR BROKE THE RULES! It's their fault, not the other coach's. DR's fault! Everyone should play by the same rules. No DR peeps were bitchen last season when Bonita beat them and they still moved on to CIF after a coin flip, same thing happened the previous year too. Who was it CO getting in? Yeah, so if Bonita gets a break for once, so be it. The season still needs to play itself out and anything can happen. I was at the DR vs LA game and seen the unsportsman like conduct call against DR's Corner early in the game and it was the same thing at Bonita's game. They talk trash, act like idiots, but play good football. It even looked to me that they went for the knees in the LA game!!! You can blame Carma, Budda, Faith, bad luck or even good luck, but the bottom line is....DR didn't follow the same rules as everyone else. Who cares who told who, they messed up! Good luck the rest of the season.

Here is the scoop. Gano and Podley met and talked after the Diamond Ranch game at Diamond Ranch’s field. They then contacted Charter Oak and reported their findings. Charter Oak did not want to participate in the petition that Gano and Podley were going to file together. Charter Oak called DR to make them aware, which they weren’t and DR ran its own investigation. They reported themselves after their findings and just got formally introduced to the slickest AD/head Coach of them all. I feel bad for the DR parents, players and coaching staff. Gano is 0-2 vs Layton. Say what you want to say Gano can not out coach Layton. Look at the scores. Layton 2 games to Gano none. Don’t mention injured players because they both had some. Don’t talk about transfers , because they both had some. Just head to head look at the scores. Gano can’t beat him on the field, but Gano and Los Altos Admin vs DR’s Admin and it is a slaughter. Layton wasn’t beaten on the field but in the Administrators office. Gano and his principal vs. a new Ad and DR’s principal. Don’t feel too bad Layton, you will run this valley some day. The coaches hear are old and the writing is on the wall. They are grasping and fear a younger more dynamic coach such as your self. Every college recruiter who has stopped by has talked about you and the players you have at DR. Gano is not dumb. He sees what is ahead of him and this is a short term answer. He must face you again next year, and the following year, and the following year until he retires. The players at DR are fast and athletic. Los Altos does not have a home grown answer for that. For the players good luck and keep your head up. I hope things work out for the best, but don’t think CO is going to feel sorry for you when the game starts.

next year west covina has LA, glendora n diamond bar on there schedule

Diamond ranch is absolutely awful. They kids act like a bunch of loud mouth disrespectful jerks. NO respect for the game our themselves. Their coaches are complete idiots when comes to football but they can sure sag thier pants. I don't really like wilson but I hope they beat DR. BAD PROGRAM.!

Hey????
what was that?
I guess its tough finding out your lower on the food chain
Joe rocks!

HEY

Notes on Amat

Hope all is forgiven here.....anyway, just got back from the Freshman football game against Crespi. I got to tell you that the team looked very good eventhough Crespi came back at the end of the game.

I've been to a few of thier games this year and I must say that this coach, really shows a great deal of intensity on the field.

He has shown that he is will to mix it up a bit on the play calling. However, the only thing that really hurts this team is thier execution. But, that is to be expected at this level I suppose.

Still, it is only Freshman football that were talking about, but the hope here is that, they all stay arround long enough to become seniors at Amat. We shall see....

BTW, there really seems to be a great deal of very knowledgeable Amat football fans out there, and I was wondering how in the world these people know who we are going to play next year ?

Outside of league play, does anyone know who the schools are going to be ? Also, who is that guy in the stands who is always running up and down the bleachers with the Amat flag at the games anyway ? He shows a lot of spirit at the games.

DUDE WE HAD TACO BELL AND COOKIES AFTER PRACTICE TODAY OMG SOOOOOOO GOOD. THANK YOU MR. COOK. OH AND GO TO THE COvsLA GAME!!!!!
IT WILL BE LEGIT SONNNNNN

Dear wondering
I didnt say we were going to win league I said we have a chnace but we have a good team we know CO and LA are good teams but I think we can beat them but we know we have to bring are A game

jfr
good luck tomm, take it easy on us

wondering from la

why get smart with the guy, he wasnt saying anything bad, and we havent played co wilson or bonita, we could not have another win either, we at la dont need or want that crap from are fans

DR has only 2 games left, Wilson and CO. Believe they need to win both to have a shot.

To all DR Panthers, You have three games left and it is playoff time from here on out. What has happened is in the past and what is important now is beating Wilson. You know what you have to do now go do it. You win the next three games two of them in league and you a probably in. This adversity will definatley make you stronger in your playoff games after week 10. You have had a great year and nobody can take that away. Win the next three. Anyone who knows football knows even the top programs suffer from paperwork oversight. Heck Edison three years ago had to forfiet it's games! Sometimes things like this happen and you have to move on. DR Panthers it is not too late "Fight On" Go Panthers!

CIFHopeful
League champs? Have you played Los Altos or CO yet? I think you should be happy with your 2 wins, There won't be to many more of them. Or maybe LA and CO should double check their roster before playing Bonita

Oh NO That mean LOU had CO @ practice today, oh wait they were eating Taco Bell inside..

First of all I dont know why everyone is saying BONITA is celebrating we feel for Diamond Ranch they talk a lot of trash but they still have been working since May I respect Diamond ranchs program they show they come to hit and are good competitors but u got to look at it from our point we havent been to cif for 3 years we lost out on CIF last year from a cointoss and now we have a 60 percent chance at making CIF and a chance at being league champs it gets you excited but we still feel bad for them we go from being 2-3 to being 2-0 in league against great teams you still have a chance keep doing what your doing and youll have a good chance

good luck

I find it interesting that this all comes to light after DR beats Los Altos and Gano the king of tranfers!!

JoeAmat
Thanks for answering my question..Good thing we have this blog or I'd be clueless.I bet it was a busy a day for all AD, and coaches.

Amat 73,

Good point. This underscores the state of Amat football. Potential talent will not pay for tuition when transfers can play for free at a public school, but possibly justified if playing for a top notch coach.

This huge disadvantage plays out unfavorably for Amat given its demographics and current coaching staff. Case in point, if you look at Mater Dei they have rich kids playing for Rollinson and De La Salle has Ladouceur.

Joe Anonymous (nice touch)

Yes the player you mention has yet to have his "hardship" approved and/or prove that their was no prior contact. That is very public and easy for anyone to find out if you know the procedure, so it is not surprising that checking eligibility becomes part of the "scouting report" on a particular opponent.

Yes...if a student leaves a private school and goes to the school that is his residential attendance area it IS still a transfer and is subject to all of the rules that apply. Which means that a valid change of address must occur for immediate eligibility, absent a hardship. Without a change of address you must sit out 1 year of varsity competition.

...and what a sacrilege that was...a Wolak going to South Hills...the horror!!!!!

Why just DR....the others will follow.

Most are in violation as we speak. They know who they are, and now that the can of worms has been open you will see more to come. If you are not in accordance to the rules or did not file your paperwork the correct way more penalties are coming to other schools. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

This is the kind of things that happen when so called grown-ups get involve (LOL). Politics, way to much politics going on here, let the kids play the game. If the two head coaches from Duarte and Gladstone DID NOT act like such babies towards each other, would the kids have gotten into a fight ? If coaches WOULD NOT worry so much about their records, but looked out for their players, would they be called cheaters ? Quit the finger pointing and think about how the kids on this team must be feeling ! this sucks for them, I'm sure they worked hard to get a chance to play the game they love, they did not do all of it to just get it taken away.....
Good luck boys.

anonymous 3:01
You are forgetting one major point. It's not as easy for Verti as it is for Gano or Farrar. There is the question of the tuition and other expenses that go along with going to AMAT. Msgr. is not going to had out free tuition money just for the sake of football. Academics or true hardship probably but athletics only no.

No heckle J

I GAVE these to your MOM . You are such a WEAK blogger .

NOT TO SOUND TOO CYNICAL BUT I SERIOUSLY DOUBTED D.R. "TURNED" THEMSELVES IN, WORD GOT IT AND THEY PROBABLY FELT THE PRESSURE. JUST A MATTER OF TIME. ALTHOUGH IT IS ULTIMATELY THE PRINCIPAL'S DOING, WHAT A LAME-O THAT COACH WAS TO NOT DOUBLE, TRIPLE, QUADTRIPLE CHECK. SHE IS RUNNING A SCHOOL - HELLO -- HE IS RUNNING A FOOTBAL TEAM. HIS JOB TO PROTECT HIS TAM AND PLAYERS!! HOW SAD FOR THOSE BOYS.

TM
Did you get these quotes from your wife? or is it Ex wife?
Silly Trojan Man

If a student leaves a Privte school and goes to their school of residency is that a transfer?

"If you are not cheating you are not TRYING. " Another quote ... "It is Only CHEATING if you get CAUGHT ." Sounds like somebody got caught with their hand in the cookie jar . Too bad , The DR Panthers looked GOOD . Better luck next time Silly Panthers ...

FIGHT ON

TM

Get a clue Verti. Good kids will transfer from San Diego if they'd be playing for a winner. Problem for Verti is that NO LOCAL or distant talent or transfer would play for a loser. Gano and Farrar compete for a CIF crown every year because of the plethora of transfers they get through these transfer rules. Success or failure hinges on who wins the battle of the transfers.

It's unfortunate, but the key to a successful season is to load up on legal transfers. No one wins CIF with homegrown talent anymore!

I typed in Freds name.
His transfer from pasadena to the trib was not approved by CIF and is pending. All of his articles will be forfeited along with his blog entries. Sorry Fred.

Questions to ponder:

Why did D Ranch wait 7 weeks to "check and see" what the status of this transfer player is? That makes no sense. Who's running the show over there?

Don't they (the AD & Head Coach) know the procedure and possibly delays in tracking the tranfer paperwork through CIF?

Only a few people out there know the truth. I am starting to doubt D Ranch turned themselves in, in seems like someone dropped a dime on them.

Did the D Ranch coaching staff know about this sooner and hope this would go uncovered?

All fair questions, that D Ranch parents should be asking. Those kids have kicked a$$ this season. They can still make the playoffs, they just need to circle the wagons, and take no prisoners.

What a crazy twist for the Panther family!

A league opponet that was not Gano or Farrer. Wilson or Bonita?

The kid in question was a talented sophomore at a private school in La Puente (hint hint) last year, and now is a Junior at DR. So does he have to sit out his junior year without any change of residence? Thus, he would be elgible in his Jr year if his family had moved within the school boundaries.

Help me clarify this Joe Amat.

fighton 626,
You mentioned CO's tailback is a transfer who is starting this year. Who was that #4 with the same name playing last year for CO not to mention his older brother was also a star RB for CO a few years back. If this is your first day on the blog please make it your last, jerkoff. WELCOME ABOARD.

FRED
So, Do you think it was the Bonita camp?

Loya's there under his other last name.

Sheesh.

The bottom line in this situation, is that the coach(S) and Administration staff should have followed up with EVERY detail before the season started.

When you leave one school to another, utility bills, DMV, and other inofrmation is required just to register at school.

You tell me that a coach doesn't follow up to make sure this kid is cleared. Not buying it, its his job to get the paperwork back from CIF with the clearance!

Pretty basic rules and procedures to follow.

Re:
"I typed in the Amat Tansfers. Couldn't find Loya's name. Uh Oh Charter Oak."

I know - I typed in the Bishop Amat transfers in CIF's transfer student status search and didn't find Loyla on any of the transfer types.I did, however find another CO transfer from Bishop who is on the "Hardship" list with a status of "received" only. This player is on the MaxPreps Roster but he dosn't have any stats so he may not be playing varsity yet, but Loyla is playing varsity and there is no transfer record on CIF's admin site for him. HUMMMMM....... Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Wow, I spoke to Layton, he wanted to make it perfectly clear that Gano and Farrar had nothing to do with this, which is why I deleted those posts.

D'ranch will end up 1-3 in league with the only win coming against Wilson, they will lose the CO game. It sickens me that this happened, for the Seniors who poured their hearts out in conditioning and all the passing league not to mention the senior and all players parents expense to play football, wash down because of a transfer violation. If I am a parent of DR I would be pissed this happened. Playing a sport is a expense and to have your season ruined is a shame. They have a good team and this was the year for them to really make noise in the Miramount League. What a way to send your senior players out.

If an opponent knows of the violation, why didnt they wait until DR played all their games then expose them. Then DR would forfeit all the league games.

I heard the anonymous source had a Marshall Canyon address.. Go Bearcats. This has got to be a cosmic make up call from last year! Undefeated in league! chill.

"A Miramonte League opponent was aware of the potential paperwork error, according to a source that spoke on condition of anonymity."

Oh yeah, THAT's credible...

joe amat -- that was my point....cif opened pandora's box when they changed that rule and I can almost remember one of the first cases - wolak going to south hills - back in the 80's!!! I cannot recall ONE CHANGE like that changing the whole scope of HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. What a nightmare and hell yea CIF has exposed themselves to every lawsuit they have faced because of that decision. oh i am 100% sure the private schools were the most opposed and saying the same thing you are saying - of course it lessened the "prestige" playing for a private school like amat.. the door was opened for illegal recruiting, the corruptness THAT ONE DECISION has made is now unfixable. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER... letting a kid pick and choose what local high school he/she will attend. how do you think the "little" schools like bassett (your neighbor) feel? what has it done to their chances??? STUPID STUPID STUPID

Dang......VVV this article is pretty deep. Hope that the sentence in paragraph 6 is not true. That would really suck. And the irony on which kid it could be....

Diamond Ranch may forfeit league victories
By Clay Fowler, Staff Writer

POMONA - The Diamond Ranch High School football team is facing the prospect of forfeiting its five victories this season due to an error with the transfer-eligibility paperwork of an unnamed player, according to school officials.
Diamond Ranch notified the California Interscholastic Federation after discovery of the error on Tuesday. A CIF ruling is expected by Friday.

"In no way was this intentional," coach Roddy Layton said. "We weren't trying to cheat. I would never sacrifice a team to play one kid. We reported ourselves, so I think that says something about Diamond Ranch, and now we're just waiting for some decisions to be made by CIF."

The Panthers (5-2, 2-0 Miramonte League), No. 5 in the CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division, have three games remaining on their regular-season schedule, including two league games. If Diamond Ranch forfeits its two league wins - 19-0 over Bonita on Oct. 12 and and 28-24 over Los Altos on Oct. 18 - the Panthers' playoff prospects will be altered drastically.

The Miramonte League grants three automatic postseason berths, but the CIF-SS Southwest Division is composed of too many teams to offer at-large playoff berths.

"I feel like I got punched in the gut (Tuesday) and I've been numb ever since," Layton said. "We weren't just talking about getting into CIF, we were talking about winning CIF."

A Miramonte League opponent was aware of the potential paperwork error, according to a source that spoke on condition of anonymity. It is unknown if the opponent brought the potential error to the attention of Diamond Ranch or CIF.

Layton, unaware of how the paperwork error was discovered, was informed of the finding Tuesday evening by a school official. Before holding a Diamond Ranch parents meeting Wednesday evening, Layton addressed the football team in an emotional meeting that afternoon.

"(Wednesday), for the second time in her life, my daughter saw her dad cry," Layton said. "The players cried too. Anyone would when you put in that many hours and you're that passionate and to have a clerical oversight take it all away."

Diamond Ranch plays Miramonte League foe Hacienda Heights Wilson (3-4, 0-2) on Friday.

"We have personally delivered the required paperwork to CIF today and are hoping to find out by Friday if this student will be allowed to play in the remaining games," Diamond Ranch Principal Monica Principe said. "This was our mistake entirely. The rules are very clear and we just didn't follow up to make sure CIF had received the paperwork we sent. And they say they didn't."

In order to participate in athletics the year of a transfer, CIF requires that a student show proof of a valid change of residence without having been solicited for athletic purposes.

Students transferring due to situations out of their control can participate in athletics if granted a CIF hardship waiver.

"A lot of schools are notorious for their transfers. We're not," Layton said. "It's not like we have a kid driving 50 miles a day who's 6-foot-3, 250 pounds and runs a 4.3. We've had plenty of transfers who had to sit out a year."

If Diamond Ranch's victories are forfeited, the Panthers will fall to 0-2 in league, vaulting Bonita (2-0) to the top of the standings, followed by Charter Oak (1-0) and Los Altos (1-0).

Diamond Ranch, 2-2 in league last season, made the playoffs courtesy of a coin flip, breaking a three-way tie for the Miramonte League's final two playoff spots.

"We could still go 2-2," Layton said. "We can only control what's in front of us. Whatever CIF says, we'll abide by it."

Staff Writer Pete Marshall contributed to this report.

****Hmm.....read the article and compare what staff writer for DB and Staff writer for SGVT wrote. Lot of Info missing in SGVT's piece. This is the same staff writer who became offended at the fact that people were saying that LA coach Gano was to blame. O and the rumor is that the ineligible kid is the kid who caught the winning TD pass against LA last week......Plaease read the whole article, including what caught my eye, the 6th paragraph down....

76er,

No worries.

The rules are exactly the same, but I guess when you KNOW that you will be under scrutiny you go over everything with a fine tooth comb.

Like that old Midas commercial says,
"...We've been doin' this a long time!"

PS: Running on Fumes & T.Morris - HUGE!!!

Don't fool yourself No one in here speaks for their school we all have our own opinion, and thats all it is. Sorry did not mean to hurt any feelings by saying not to celebrate. I truly don't think anyone is celebrating @ this point.

IF D RANCH NEEDS A WIN IN WEEK 10 TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS...AND CO BEATS THEM...I WILL COME ON THE FIELD AFTER THE GAME PULL DOWN MY PANTS AND THROW IT AROUND LIKE DIRK DIGLER AND BY THE WAY I HATE CO TO JUST NOT AS MUCH AS THE PANTHERS

KARMA DOES EXIST!!!

#5 TALKIN ALL THAT ISH...THE COACH GETTIN KICKED OUT...I DONT FEEL BAD FOR THE BLACK AND BLUE GANGSTERS OR VANILLA ICE

What is the big deal with players transfering? Really is anyone monitoring the Tuba player that transfers from Compton High School to Pacific Palisaides because he's an extraordinary talent. This is SO freakin silly.

It's bad enough colleges have this stupid rule. In college at least there are issues of heavy money being put forward and on the table but in high school every student is the same in terms of state funding. As far as private and public school issues they are the same. Who the hell cares where kids go to school and why.

It's the lowest form of totalitary BS on this planet. What a joke and anyone who can come up with a reason is just being self serving.

So every student with skills goes to 1 or 3 schools for athletics...so what. 99.9% of high school athletes never get college scholarship based on athletics anyway!

Come on Fred is there really any reason to worry about transfers other than some sort of mean spirited need to control..EVERYTHING!

Look at Wayne Gretzky. He just released his own wine label...Admits he "Doesn't know a thing about wine other than the color...RED and White!" And why did he do this? To help with the building costs of athletic facilities at Oaks Christian.

Yup that's fair. But you know what? His kids will be right next to mine at Stanford, Harvard and USC..without sports. Is that a rant or what...air quality is having a bad affect on me.

when a school and coach accept an incoming senior transfer that walks right in and starts at tailback (Los altos, charter oak) quarterback (chino hills) maybe the reporters should interview the resident players that grew up in that community and lost their starting position? how do they feel? what if that player was a senior? is it fair or right that the school hand over a position to an outsider? hmm makes you wonder? I wish my kid had a dollar for every time a coach talks about dedication, loyalty, etc., and how your time will come, or will it????????????

would love to hear others thoughts on this.

fighton626

Joe Amat, my apologizes, I did not read closely enough, I thought you were referencing the Warriors, not your beloved Lancers!

Personally,I have never heard of Amat having these types of problems. Are there specific rules governing private schools that differ substantially from the public schools?

"Just curious...does anyone ever remember an incident where that alleged crooked, recruiting, catholic school in La Puente had to forfiet a game due to ineligible players?

Maybe I'm missing one...but I don't think so. Rules are rules and you have to do things above board, cross your T's and dot your I's...always have....always will"

Joe Amat, at the risk of sounding insensitive, how many impact players have left other schools to play at La Puente and what kind of circumstances could they be in if they had to leave another program to attend La Puente on a "hardship"?

There are so many issues with the Diamond Ranch eligability or ineligibility of a player. There are rules in life and rules in sports. Sometimes in life people get away with things and sometimes in sports people get away with things.

The sad part of this is that almost always regardless of intent, the innocent get hurt. So who are the innocent in this case. Those hurt by the use of an ineligible player after it was reported are the Diamond Ranch players, their families and fans.

On the other hand the use of an ineligable player who is allowed to play is not fair to the opposing team. The opposing team then are the innocent ones who get hurt.

Rules are in place to bring order and fairness. Unfortunatly when rules are broken someone gets hurt. However, they only know they got hurt when someone finds out about the infraction.

Many of todays bloggers on this subject are pointing fingers at others claiming that the other successful programs in the area are cheaters, otherwise how can they be successful. In response to those incendiary comments one only needs to use a little common sense. If programs like Los Atlos, Charter Oak and South Hills football, or Glendora basketball or any other ongoing successful program were cheating, you can bet that others in the area would be doing all they could to expose them. The reality is that to continue to be successful you need to know the rules and make sure you play by them.

The issue here is not what is everybody else doing, it should be, why and how did it happen. Was it simple ignorance or neglect or was it purposeful with the hope of getting away with something.

My hope is that this is a very unforunate mistake with no malice intended. However, if it is discovered that someone was involved in intentional wrong doing, either by knowing the transfer was not legitimate or after realizing the mistake choosing to ignor it and hope no one would find out, then woe be unto that person or persons. They then would deserve the wrath of the school and community.

No matter how you look at this, innocents are hurt. We may never know the facts and only more hurt is done when we wrongly speculate. Let's all resolve now not to continue hurting the innocent and stop making accusations and hope that wisdom and fairness will have a positive effect.

The bottom line is, rules are needed and all need to play by them. It's only fair.
