And there was a "limpia" after as well.

Joe Doe,
I think Friday night's victory was more than just beating the Falcons. The Warriors were able to overcome the negative reputation that the school has endured. The Warriors were able to overcome the adversity of being down 7-0 and refused to accept the proverbial "here we go, again" effect. Finally, the Warriors overcame their own thoughts of past failures and BELIEVED that they could achieve anything. That to me is Warrior Football.
I'm glad the team has finally earned your respect. With your latest post, you have earned mine as well. I know it's not easy to come in here and post after all that doubt. Changing perceptions one person at a time is okay with me.

Nice one Joe Doe,
Just repeat everything that everyone has said to you and say it right back to them. Now you're attacking the community I grew up in? Serves me right to even respond to such a person.
Posted by: LPAlum | November 2, 2007 6:28 AM
Joe Doe,
There's nothing wrong with living in La Puente. I raised my kids here and they are high school and college graduates. Just because it's not Hacienda Hts. or West Covina doesn't mean that the people that live here are any less. A lot of the talent that Wilson, Los Altos, and West Covina have live in La Puente. So that goes to show you that talent does exist in La Puente.
Posted by: MVL Fan | November 2, 2007 12:51 AM
Once again its the Montview league. If Duarte is that much better why aren't they in the Miramonte League or in any higher division? They were put in this league for a reason.
It's not a question of weaker teams but how well you can play and how far you can take it.
Posted by: MVL Fan | November 2, 2007 12:34 AM
LPChief,
That's real hilarious and obviously an intelligent rebuttal. Can't handle my assessment of the MVL as being weak, so now you need to redeem yourself by resorting to personal attacks.
What gives? You seem to be such a level headed and articulate individual.....ooops but given your area and school affilliation explains your mentality. Maybe some Prozac will take the edge off moron.
BTW, take a reading comprehension class. Once again, never said LP was good or not good, just said they play a weak schedule and that there is nothing to boast about beating weak teams and losing to mediocre teams.

Joe Doe, Anonymous, or whoever the hell you are,
It seems like you've endured some kind of brain injury because you seem to have missed the point once again. You seem to reiterate that La Puente is not good or is not a contender. Fine. You've established that. What I want YOU to understand is: I don't really care whether you think we're a contender or not. I DO care that we're winning more games than we won in years past.
I'm assuming, because you weren't able to develop an effective rebuttel against MVL Fan or myself, you decided to attack the fan issue that is really, a non-issue. If you ever let me know who you are, I can recommend a good doctor. Nothing that Depakote or some Seroquel can't fix!
By the way, we wouldn't want you as a fan anyway.

Bishop amat has had a bad season but its still a good school. Give the kids a break, they try. Yes the studnets have to pay thousands of dollars a year maybe the school can pay for a better coaching staff.
Posted by: MVL Fan | November 1, 2007 4:20 PM
Maybe LP's program wouldn't be under such scrutiny if Koffler stayed and followed through like he said he was gonna...but no he left the boys hanging and the administrators had to settle for a first year coach that brought in a coaching staff that couldn't get it together. McMillon is a great teacher but he was still inexperienced as a head coach. The only thing is if LP were to beat Duarte you people still wouldn't give the boys credit for their accomplishments. As for LP having only three fans, you are mistaken. Go to the game and you see more then three fans on the bleachers and on the sidelines.

I'm proud of what Ayala has accomplished this season. As I said months ago, I was so impressed with Baca last season, I though he should have been the Tribs #1 QB going into this season. Without a doubt, Apparently I was right and the Trib was wrong on this.
Nevertheless, I couldn't be more happier for your program. Your right, this is the year of the bulldog and Tartan together. We both are deserving in being under the light at Citrus Friday. Both teams are winners and, as I said earlier, I feel this really is a "gentlemans game" and a "Cinderalla Ball".
Enough with the lovefest! The Tartans are BIG, but I wouldn't say "fluffy". At least not in the face of Hoss McGarry! He might eat you for lunch for such words!
And, because we are such good friends now:), here's alittle advice for the Bulldogs; don't come Friday night. Save your strength for CIF! The last thing you want to do is chance injury. The Tartans are a physical team. They play hard!
See you Friday! Tell those Bulldog fans, come early. What ever seats they don't fill on the visitor side, will be extra room for the Tartan overflow crowd!

Look I'm not trying to take anything away from your team. But let's get realistic before you jump for joy.
Scheduling weak opponents during pre season and then losing those games certainly does not establish any credibility, beating on weak league teams certainly does not establish any credibility.
All it means is that you are stronger than the weak ones. Beat the Duarte and get past the first round and now you have proven something. This is why you only have 2 fans, do not count me in yet until you get past the first round and establish yourself as a legitimate contendor.

I said CO, WITHOUT SNOWDEN (in bold so you don't miss it again), is an average team as demostrated by your tie with Damien (no Snowden that game). Snowden played in the Glendora game. He was incredible on O and D, but CO BARELY squeezed out a win with only 22 seconds left. Not a big victory as you guys say. Wasn't Snowden who passed on the trick play?

Come on, EVERYONE agrees the Inland Div is superior.

The TRUTH! and Anonymous at November 1, 2007 12:00 AM,
The Tartans are thinking one game at a time right now. First we need to take care of Ayala and win our league. Then we will worry about our competition in CIF. Yes, UNLIKE YOUR DIVISION, the Tartans happen to play in a division made up of great football programs.
After 15 years of nada, I think us Tartans are happy just to have a team playing in the championship game this Friday.
We said from the begining of summer, this team is the best team Glendora has fielded in years. Instead of hating, lets try to support our area's CIF programs. Maybe just maybe, the Tartans might surprise us all in CIF.
Posted by: Tartans all the way! | November 1, 2007 7:15 AM
You people say that LP played teams that are very weak and that the montview league is weak... the thing is that Duarte and LP are in the same league and play the same weak teams. Duarte's pre-season started out with Ayala and Duarte lost. Their first game of the season a couple mistakes...OK Then they went on to beat Monrovia and got by El Segundo by 1 point. We don't want to mention what happened at Ganesha(I think). LP's pre season was Ontario, Wilson, and Don Bosco all in higher divisions except for Ganesha. Bosco was only able to score 13 points when they thought it was gonna be a blow out and LP did not give up. Wilson was worried for a while in the first quarter when LP scored, yes LP lost but they didn't give up. The Ontario game was the first game of the season and they made mistakes but they didn't give up. Give the boys a little credit and respect because they always play their hearts out. They don't get into big brawls in the middle of a football game, and their coaches don't quit on them and decide to come back after a weekend get away. LP has great potential now that they finally have a coaching staff that clicks and players that have respect for the game called football. I for one see how their program has come around and proud of them... as for the game on Friday, don't underestimate the underdog!

Your comments just prove my point. I'm not looking for a free beer or anyone else jumping on any bandwagon. I could care less. Just like the wins this year don't mean anything in YOUR book, they mean a lot in MINE. I've been through some of the worst seasons as a Warrior and I like to relish and enjoy any kind of success that the team is having. I'm glad that you know "Bobby Cruz's" dad. I'm sure he's a good guy.
Yes, you're right. We did lose to Ontario and Wilson at the beginning of the year. I thought that you would, at the least, know, that teams DO get better (or worse, in some cases) as the season progresses.
BTW: It sounds like it's you that needs the beer, not me. Don't worry, when the Warriors pull it off this Friday, I'll get the first, third, fifth, and seventh rounds and talk about membership requirements to the fanclub.

You guys lost to a mediocre Ontario and Wilson team...Let's say if you guys beat Duarte which will be your strongest opponent you will face this year, I'll be in shock but I'll be happy for you...but the reality is you beat very weak teams, which in my book means nada, zippo, zero, and if you do beat Duarte I will jump on the wagon and be a Warrior fan and buy you a beer. I was kinda taken aback by the 28 point win over W.C. as I sat there listening to it also Dan. My take on W.C. this year is there real young with some talent. West Covina can be hard to peg between changing offensive schemes last year after S.H. beat them, (I was hoping we would NOT match up in playoffs last year, its hard to beat any team twice much less your rivals). Then theres the way the Bulldogs can get pumped to play the Huskies, (in the past it was scary, 05' at Mt. Sac ring a bell). However this year the Huskies will win, just way too many weapons on offense and a SCARY defense that will shut down West Covina's offensive game. After thinking through it 28 sounds like alot but not this year ! 35-7
Posted by: VANNER | October 31, 2007 7:57 PM
I would just like to say congratulations to Ayala and Glendora for playing for the league championship game this week. Congratulations for having great seasons and I'm sure the game will be exciting. Congratulaions for being the two teams of three teams representing the Sierra League in the playoffs. Oh yeah, and congratulations for being the two potential teams that get humiliated by Corona Centennial in the playoffs. Hey I'll be the one laughing, while I watch Ryan Bass run all over your sub-par talent. I feel bad for the 3rd place team coming out of your division (Chino, Chino Hills, Damien). They might be the first victim. Glendora and Ayala have no clue whats in store for them. (Probably a 30 point margin of defeat)

Posted by: Oh My! | October 31, 2007 5:20 PM
Lightening doesn't strike the same place twice nor does luck win two football games.... Seems to me the scores between Glendora Chino Hills and Ayala Chino Hills were about the same... One more thing since the press chose not to really cover the Ayala game no one really understands that Chino Hills was scoreless in the 2nd half. What the Huskies left with at half time was all they could get - Ayala is well coached and will make adjustments for who ever they play... This will be a good game don't under estimate either team!
Isn't this what we all want and expect for a Sierra League title game? Even better both teams weren't looked at to win the title at the beginning of the season.... It is almost too bad one team has to loose... Both are winners to have suprised the experts!

Comment:
Lots of chest banging going on over Friday's game between GHS and AHS, isn't there?
The one valid point that I'll agree with is that both teams have great taste in school colors. Beyond that, I must say there are no further words to describe what the game will amount too.
Examining how each team came this far is interesting. Ayala claims that they have ridden to victory on the stellar arm of a junior QB with dominating stats. Fortifying their wins, they also claim they have athletes that can catch the ball and are ranked in Cal's who's / who's.
This said they appear to be a worthy opponent. Looking at their two big Sierra League victories makes you wonder and/or question just how good they are?
The Damien game came down to a 2:13 minute exhibit whereby AHS was looking at a 33-27 loss. Then came the "dreaded fumble" by Damien and the recovery by Ayala...and 99 yards later, AHS walked away with a 34-33 (one point) victory.
Last week AHS dodged another loss hosting Chino Hills....late in the final seconds of the game CHHS plotted a 3 point FG in the red zone only to flub the execution of that play as AHS recovered the ball and ran it back for a 19-10 victory. CHHS makes that FG they would have won by one point.
GHS on the other hand, dominated both teams and won each game by a greater margin of execution and earned points.
If heroics are all Ayala has to offer, as two of their league games dictate, then bring it on. Make no mistake, GHS will not allow these close margins of "prayer-victories" to occur on their home field.
FYI: Yes, I know "a win is a win."

Ayala's off. and def. line is smaller. They are quick and are not afraid to hit. The down side, they have a tendency to give away big plays. If they prevent this, it should be a good battle. If not, it will be a long night for Ayala.

QB heaven
Great post! You make many valid points. I believe the difference, and truely believe the advantage for Glendora in this game, will be the opportunity to go with whatever seems to be working at the time. Regardless of what the Tribune' Passing/Rushing/Receiving Top 10 lists say, Glendora seems to win and, subsequently, be at the championship game for doing something better than many of these "Top 10" players. Back to the point, if passing doesn't work for Kluz Friday night, then, watch out, here comes the running game, and visa versa. Glendora can do both pretty good.
Lets say Tartan D finds away to shut down Baca. Then what? Trust me, you will not run against the Tartan D. Glendora has faced strong arm QB's and top speed running backs. I think the real challenge will be for Ayala. Ayala has not faced a defense like the Tartan D. Of course, we can argue up to Friday, then somebody will have to eat crow. Because in a game like this, anything can and will happen. Both teams are awesome and matchup good.
I give Glendora the home field advantage and of course Home Coming night (not sure why that might be an advantage).
Here's a tip. For Ayala to win this game, you really just need to watchout for Kaluzney, Vega, Karnowsky, Edwards, Holmes, Johnson, Tarango, Gonzales, Jackson, Meraz, McGarry, Bachman, Sefton, Lilly, R. Young, Kovar, Bowdery, Glassman, Horn, Niles, Beck, Santellan, C. Young, Beckwith, Lehigh, Nichols, Murphy, Stockham, Bankhead, Manning, Noriega, Aguirre, Eden, Denerson, several stat girls, coaches and others.

Here's a big problem for Glendora vs. Ayala. During the Chino game and as far back as the Etiwanda game the weakness I see with Glendora's stellar defense is they can be taken up the line with a strong armed quarterback which Baca is. Same goes with any athletic jet at the wideouts. Glendora's defense accounts for that with a great pass rush and some blitzing but the arm strenght and pattern is what gets Glendora. A beaten and tired Chino team and Etiwanda team took them downtown with ease. That's where GHS should be taken. Most of Glendora's strenght is that people run right at them. Speed kills GHS as CO proved. Really has GHS played any fast teams? DHS's Mc Mahon proved that GHS doesn't like to run sideline to sideline knowing the DBs can be taken deep. Typical Coach P defense, well coached, very well conditioned and disciplined. It's not a bend but don't break defense rather it's a break them before they find the holes. Team defense of the highest order, plus they are composed and confident!
Damien couldn't take GHS deep for two reasons: poor pass blocking/ great pass rush and the lack of strenght at QB in terms of deep pattern accuracy. Passing is timing and Damien QBs run too many patterns at practice with non game playing WRs. Sorry but that's what 3rd string QBs are for. Starters and immediate backups get the majority of throws in my book... FROM THE STARTER! Maybe with Betance Damien beats GHS by 14. I know it sounds crazy but Betance is a better QB than Danny but Danny is easily the better athlete. Betance as much as I hate t admit it is a cold blooded, strong armed accurate gunslinger. Too bad he didn't start for 3 years...but there again it's coaching that fails Damien and to a certain extent it's players. Hope the Oregon rumors aren't true but with 2 games to go only a deep playoff run saves Morrison's job.
Either way it's goping to be a great game. Both schools illustrate the value of solid coaching staffs. Ayala is no longer anyone's doormat and that's coaching! AHS/GHS are getting better but come playoffs we'll really see if either is ready for Prime Time. Imagine next year with Baca, Klunzy and Betance. Sierra Legue will be fun to watch! Good luck to all. I'll be there (GHS/AHS)to see the champion get crowned.

Ayala has an arsenal of receivers, if they double or triple team Quiroga, which is the norm, you still have to worry about Damon Baca, Forrest, the tight end and the running backs. If Ayala spreads it out, glendora better stand by.....

What ever happens Friday night Ayala should be looked at in a different light! Everyone thought Ayala was the "easy" team in the Sierra League, including the papers that cover them.... Nice to see hard work paying off!
