Steve Ramirez and Fred J. Robledo going head-to-head throughout the season.
Records:
Robledo: Last week (17-1); Season (133-46)
Ramirez: Last week (17-1); Season (134-45)
Notes: Steve and I brought our "A" game last week. Obviously there was a reason we both picked all the same games. Our only loss was picking El Monte over Mountain View, and as you all know, the Vikes pulled off the big upset. We're in crunch time now, only two weeks left and then playoffs. Ramirez only has a one game lead and there is a big lunch riding on this, so the pressure's on.
Thursday's games
West Covina vs. South Hills at Covina District Stadium -- Robledo (South Hills); Ramirez (South HIlls)
Azusa vs. Bassett at Citrus College, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Azusa); Ramirez (Azusa)
Friday's games
Duarte at La Puente, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Duarte); Ramirez (Duarte)
Glendora vs. Ayala at Citrus College -- Robledo (Glendora); Ramirez (Glendora)
Notre Dame at Bishop Amat -- Robledo (Notre Dame); Ramirez (Notre Dame)
Bonita at Charter Oak, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Charter Oak); Ramirez (Charter Oak)
Covina at Baldwin Park, p.m. -- Robledo (Baldwin Park); Ramirez (Baldwin Park)
Los Altos at Wilson, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Wilson); Ramirez (Los Altos)
Arroyo at Rosemead, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Rosemead); Ramirez (Rosemead)
Northview vs. Pomona at Covina District Stadium -- Robledo (Northview); Ramirez (Northview)
Mountain View at South El Monte, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (SEl Monte); Ramirez (SEl Monte)
Gladstone at Sierra Vista, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Sierra Vista); Ramirez (Sierra Vista)
Gabrielino at El Monte, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (El Monte); Ramirez (El Monte)
Diamond Ranch at Nogales, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Diamond Ranch); Ramirez (Diamond Ranch)
Rowland at Walnut, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Rowland); Ramirez (Walnut)
San Dimas at Ganesha, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (San Dimas); Ramirez (San Dimas)
Chino at Damien, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Damien); Ramirez (Damien)
Chino Hills at Diamond Bar, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Chino Hills); Ramirez (Chino Hills)
Western Christian at Aquinas, 7:30 p.m. -- Robledo (Western Christian); Ramirez (Aquinas)
Final Thoughts: Is there anything better than live television? Don't miss the Fox Sports West telecast of South Hills vs. West Covina at the District Field on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. On paper, it looks like the Bulldogs will get blown out, but I bet they bring something special to this game. Should be a lot of fun and excitement for the valley and the San Antonio League title is on the line. Of course, two other great league title games with Glendora hosting Ayala and Duarte going to La Puente.

WOW!
Things happen for certain reasons. I guess this Win prevents the Freshman Wilson/Pop warner coach from taking the varsity job! You know that's what the little worm wants.
I say watch who you sleep with "sleeping giant".

Wow, what a bitter little man you are. I guess that's what decades of losing will do to you...
P.S. You were talking JAA kids, not pop warner.
Try and have a nice day.

I guess you lose to Wilson and your season is over.
Gano you should have never woke up the sleeping giant. You had your fun on Thurday but you paid for it Friday Night.

Who cares,
When you become an expert on youth football come back and talk to me. Your lack of knowledge is tipical of a Los Altos parent. Let me educate you a little. If you are trying to tell me that the Junior All American Cougars aren't going to High School next year, due to age. I am going to tell you that Hacienda La Puente Pop Warner's Junior Midget team has 1/2 the team going to High School next year and every one of those kids are going to Wilson. What does that tell you about the state of Los Altos Football.
Sidenote: The Cougars haven't had a Midget team complete a season for the last decade and I don't see them having one in the decade.

I guess Los Altos is going to be talking a lot about that freshman game. Can't talk about JV game and now you can't talk about the big one. Wilson 42 Los Altos 36. Before the game I was talking to some friends about GANO’s decision to run up the score on the freshman. Well Gano karma, it came back on you ten fold. Your only league win is a forfeit. You lost to your cross town rivals and lost the wheel.

LA fans, where is #32? Who do you think will start at QB next year, Zamona, Longoria, or Booth?? Any GOOD WR's, TE's, OL/DL, or LB's coming up? Any transfer rumors(to or from)? C'mon CONQ NATION let's talk!

The 1-5-1 JAA Cougars you are talking about are Jr. Midgets, not going to high school next year. Cougars did not field a Midget team this year (12-14 year olds).
Get your facts straight before confirming your stupidity to all...
Posted by: Who cares | November 2, 2007 11:30 PM
Maybe you should check out your sideline. A freshman team two years ago of over 100 kids now with Booth as your coach you are at around 45 with about 10 out. You are right it is real hard to get over the loss. As the head coach told the kids yesterday, he has never got beat by a team that was coached that poorly in his life.
I noticed you skipped right over that topic about Wilson's Freshman team record last year 0-10 this year 7-2. Tell Gano well see him next year.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 1:43 PM
Anon,
Well fom the looks of it you guys have kids that are not playing on the sidelines at wilson. And that's with a small group of kids on the team. I guess you can have a few more on the sidelines.
I don't get your POINT.
YOU LOST LIVE WITH IT!
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 1:35 PM
Maybe you should talk to your kids then, I have. I know for a fact that one of your kids already tried to transfer over during the season. I also know that three others have approached a third party about transferring over next year. For a team that is 8-1 the kids aren't very happy. These are all kids that are getting playing time. I am not talking about your 1 play a game running backs.

Anon,
Look at the game film no cheap shots.Just a bunch of fired up kids! I guess coming to the game last friday didn't help Wilson's cause.
Regarding our Varsity. Worry about yourselves. We never have issue with that just look at our records.
Posted by: Fan | November 2, 2007 12:51 PM
I will say this much about the coaching at yesterday’s game. Wilson's coaches made the coaches move to take chances once they got behind to get back in the game. The Los Altos coaches made the Junior All American coaches’ decision to run up the score.
WHAT???
We didn't even have a chance!
Run up the score!!
We didn't score!
I'm going to LA!
Where the Winners are!
I'm using that transfer rule.

Fan,
What happen to your JV team by the way, that’s next years, Varsity team? I heard they lost 20-7 to Wilson. Looks like LA has some issues next year.
All your recruits this year are a bust, next years freshman teams are going to consist of a bunch of 1-5-1 cougars, have fun.
You hope Vega is ok, that’s not what your kids said after the game. I heard the kid that took the cheap shot was bragging about it.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 12:35 PM
Anybody hear that Gano is stepping down from the head coach job at LA after this season. I was told that he is going to be the new Varsity GIRLS softball coach. Maybe as AD he can hire a Varsity Head Football Coach that can really coach this time. Don't make the mistake that Despain made.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 12:24 PM
Pop Warner,
Last I checked freshman ball is prep, you don't like the comments don't read them.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 12:20 PM
You know these kids at Los Altos might have played for some of the POP WARNER/Wilson Freshman coaches. But what I'm hearing from them they have lost all respect for there former coaches. They never knew how bad these coaches could behave in Humiliating loss. You guys say you did zero recruiting. Man what a total lie most of the kids on the LA team have been asked "TO COME PLAY FOR WILSON". Obviously they know where the real coaching is. Plain and simple Wilson LOST. This is not Pop Warner. This is high school football. If we played Wilson 10 times you'll get the same result. If you kids want to Win football games and not be clowned around with these coaches. Use the new sophomore transfer rule before it's to late.
VEGA hope your ok!
What the hell were they thinking running you up the middle!

Come on NOW ....JAA TALK on a HS blog ?!?!?!?
Congrats to the JAA teams who compete each & every week , but save the freshman scores for the announcemnts on Friday mornings @ their schools .
HONESTLY MOST OF US COULD CARE LESS . What JAA Coaches SHOULD DO if indeed they are THAT GOOD , Get a degree & or Teaching credential & GET A HC job @ a local high school .You guys sound like a bunch of CRY BABIES ! YOU LOST ...IT HAPPENS .
Posted by: Pop Warner | November 2, 2007 11:34 AM
Now lets talk about the freshman coaches at Wilson, this year zero recruiting in the area, had the normal kids they get every year, so far a 7-2 record, last years freshman team was 0-10. This year’s freshman team at Los Altos 8-1 last years team 9-1. Let’s talk about the talent on the Los Altos team. I would say that about half the skilled players were coached by these Wilson Freshman Pop Warner coaches.
We can also talk about the real issue; these Pop Warner/Wilson Freshman coaches started Hacienda La Puente Pop Warner Football three years ago. They build a program in three years that is nationally recognized as one of the best in the United States. They have sent two teams in their first two years to the National Championships, something no other league in the 77 year history of Pop Warner has been done. That is what they have done as President, Vice President, & Treasure of Hacienda La Puente Pop Warner. As coaches in three years they have a record of 26-7-1. The 06’ team went to the National Champions in Florida and this year’s team lost in the Semi Finals. It should also be noted that they are not playing junior all American teams. The conference they are playing in is the largest conference in the United States and includes Orange County and Los Angeles County.
I will say this much about the coaching at yesterday’s game. Wilson's coaches made the coaches move to take chances once they got behind to get back in the game. The Los Altos coaches made the Junior All American coaches’ decision to run up the score.
Wilson Coaching Staff = CLASS
Los Altos Coaching Staff = NO CLASS
Posted by: Anonymous | November 2, 2007 11:00 AM
I guess it proves that what you do in Pop Warner has nothing to do with how you'd do in high school.
Wasn't it you that was popping off about how the Wilson coach won a "Pop Warner National Championship"?
Please, that's what happens when you talk smack - it usually comes back to haunt you!
It did!

LA Conq,
What are you joking, 1st and 2nd string tailback out in the first 2 minutes of the game. On a team that isn't deep to start. Los Altos comes out of the first half with a 7-0 lead. I wonder what Booth (head coach) was thinking then. Real funning Booth makes the comment to the kids, "break his leg" two minutes into the game they took their shoot, they only got the knee. And the kid that hit him was bragging about it after the game, great job Booth and Gano. What do you expect out of a coaching staff that has all the talent and zero coaching skills?
You have a head coach that coaches a Pop Warner team to a 1-9 record last year; you have a line coach who cheated in youth football by falsifying his own son's birth certificate and others. You have some other line coach Freeze who talks more about his rings than teaching the kids. That is the worst coaching staff in the valley. Ask Gano or Curtis, according to them this coaching staff is gone next year. Coach Curtis is taking over the JV team.
Talk about a coach with no class up 32-0 with about 2 minutes left in the game and go for two points on the extra point. Booth keeps his starting team in the whole game and continued to run up the score every chance he had. Maybe he should go to DR next year, perfect fit. O I am sorry he did run his backup running back for one play in the forth quarter. Booth made his statement, now he has to live with it. He created a group of kids with no class. Some of his own parents were embarrassed with the way your kids acted on the bus when they were leaving, of course you had Booth controlling them.
O I’m sorry Booth just found out from one of your parents it wasn’t you that decided to go for 2 points,GANO told you to go for the 2 points. LOTS OF CLASS GANO. I guess GANO wants a job at DR.

If those Glendora linemen are running 4.7 and benching 350 then you can bet it's steriods. Look at the Glendora program and see the picture of two Glendora players giving the "hulkster" pose without their shirts. That's steriods! Supplements or whatever.
I wondered how the Glendora faithfull were sooooooooooo sure they would have the best/strongest players in the Sierra League/SGV...plain and simple....steriods. Got the money honey? I seen the glendora team last year 3 times and they are NOT the same team this year....the only question is , "How did the Glendora faithful KNOW they would have the best team in the SGV AFTER losing their bplay in Edmonds and a whole bunch of senior leaders/starters.?"
Too bad. But if those numbers are true...in other words "factually" clean then Rogaine really works, Big Macs are good for you and Paris Hilton is a virgin.

LA Conq,
I don't think you want to go their. The head coach at the varsity level at Wilson is a lawyer, what did Gano get his degree in, eating donuts. The head coach at the freshmen level COACHED a HLP Pop Warner team to the National Championships in 06'. I was told that you freshmen head coach Booth coach a HLP Pop Warner team last year to a 1- 9 record, worst in HLP history.
Posted by: Anonymous at October 31, 2007 09:17 AM
The Freshman Coach at Wilson did what!
34-0 just fast enough to see it go off the score board.
I'd take that off the scoreboard as soon as I could with the beating they received!
OUT COACHED! OUT PLAYED!
Better luck next year!
Good players though. You just need a better coach!
With all the screaming on the sidelines you would think he was coaching a POP WARNER TEAM!
Trick plays a little to late for Halloween!
Thanks for the treat!

I trully am a lucky man! In many ways!
He loves to go to LA's games, and at a recent Angel game, a man came up to us assuming we were father and son and shared how much he missed doing things like that with his pop. I know it is likely that I will out live him, but today, being 49 years old, my wife the same age, we both still have each of our parents with us. I have to assume this is pretty rare.

Both DE's Kovar and Bowdery run 4.7 to 4.8.
Bowdery holds the Los Osso record in speed at the linemans comp this year. Not to mention, Kovar benchs 350 to 360 and runs 4.75.
Why do you speak without knowing the facts?

I will not be attending the LA-Wilson game this week based on a decision I made three years ago. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, "No one goes to the "Battle for the Wagon Wheel" game at Wilson anymore, it's just too crowded".
Wilson's visitor side is wholly inadequate for big game crowds, a complete pain in the A**. My pop, who was 80 at the time, climbed a hill at one side of the "Little League" stands and was promptly chased down by one of LA Counties finest. We decided then that this was a "treat" we would deprive ourselves of in the future.

Gano QB'd at APU, don't know what his degree was in, but apparently you have some sort of problem with his collegiate pedigree. Be that as it may, I would imagine there are quite a few coach's who love to eventually retire with his record.

TM,
Gano has concerns about Wilson pulling the core of the local talent base to Wilson. From what I have heard those concerns are valid. Per CIF rules their is nothing Gano can do about it. Gano knows exactly what I am talking about. Gano I don't understand why you get so upset at the comments on the blog, they are ture. What you don't understand is their are a lot of kids, coaches, etc. at Los Altos that don't like you. That is why all this information gets leaked out. I don't understand why you would accuse a high school kid of writing these comments on the blog. When any person with 1/2 a brain could check the time stamp and realize the kid was in your class when these entires were made.
Posted by: Anonymous | October 31, 2007 3:30 PM
the los altos program could be alot better.if there coaches wouldnt play favorites, and just let the best players start then they wouldnt have the lack of talent. Lets face it at the beginning of the season when LA had the quarterback dilema, everyone remembered that andrew tomsio the starting QB at wilson was originally from LA, but since LA played favorites like always, he is at Wilson now. When he could be doing GREAT at los altos, like hes doing GREAT at wilson.

Trojan Man,
Not for achieving his goals, but how you achieve your goals. Gano is a master at using the system to get what he wants. Thats all fair, but don't start crying wolf when someone else wants to play the game and Gano knows exactly what I am talking about.
Posted by: Anonymous | October 31, 2007 2:56 PM
Coach O better hope there are other offers out there for him to take because he will need a job shortly. I have never seen a wilson team down so bad in number of players and size than I have this year. Running sweeps to the fastest kid around and then throwing to a good kid on 3rd every series does not make a good coach. Say what you want about Gano but he is a proven winner and your coach, I mean lawyer is not. By the way, St. Lucy's doesn't even have a football program.
Posted by: JFR | October 31, 2007 2:21 PM

JFR,
Well Coach O must be doing something right being that he has been offered head coaching jobs at other local high schools and was offered a coaching job on Coach Carroll staff, yes USC's staff.
Then we have Gano, with all these CIF titles, looking but no one interested, go figure.

WOW, the head coach at Wilson is a lawyer. He better learn how to win or he will be back working as a public defender. What the hell does a law degree have to do with being a successful football coach, OBVIOUSLY NOTHING!

Somehow people have missed the fact that Glendora is not the only team in this game with a Defense. In Sierra League play, Ayala has outplayed all other Sierra League Defenses. According to CalPreps Ayala average pts allowed 14.3 vs Glendora 16. Looking at quality opponents, Glendora gave up more to Chino Hills than Ayala, but Ayala gave up more to Damien than Glendora.
The Tartans had better beware, Estipular, Choi, Larivee, Brown, Villanueva, Brandon and Co. will bring the hits too.
This game will be a ball buster.

Now Baca is special. That's a QB that's going places. Great arm action. Great reads and great composure...although Klunzy is no slouch in the composure department.
Let the fireworks begin but the difference maker in this game will be GHS' Vega. He runs for 160 yards and keeps the chains and clock moving...and Baca and Co. on the sidelines and that spells victory. But if Baca gets hot early and explodes for 2 early TDs I think it spells TOUGH NIGHT for GHS.
.
My pick Glendora by 21 @ home.
Oh and Cop/Coach....you did your friend a favor by not bringing that kid to Damien. He's in WR heaven with Baca. My question to you is why bring talent to Damien when there's no coaching at the lower levels?

Lost in this whole season's discussion is the slew of injuries that have plagued Wilson's offensive line. This offense was poised to be one of the best in the area with Gilmore running, Tomsio passing and Romero receiving. They have played most of the season without three and sometimes four off. lineman. they lost their best one half way thru week 3, their starting right OT before week 1 and then again against Bonita and lost one wed. night before Charter Oak. They played without four against Bonita and their returning center playing OT. They havent gotten anyone back but have learned how to play without them and you saw that against D. Ranch. This team is not as deep as LA and therefore the huge blowouts in league. Too bad.

Go Big A,
Agree with others that The Kluz has done what he's needed to do. We have a varied running attack with 5 or 6 guys over 100 yards (including him, and we have both power AND speed guys) and his ratio of 9 TD's/1 INT is awesome. Check out the QB ratings of both...I think you'll find them almost identical. That best illustrates his value to us. Your guy's going to be the All-league QB for sure, but we love our guy too.
AHSfbFan,
We have played several very talented teams with good passing attacks. Etiwanda has thrown for over 1500 yds & has a D1 receiver (but showed poorly against us). Charter Oaks Allen is pretty good, West Ranch (no stats available) is a passing team that I think averages around 200 yds. a game (BTW, did you all see they hung with Canyon last week? Lost 10-3 against a VERY good team). Also, El Dorodo's balanced attack was tougher than any in the valley and Damien & Chino Hills are solid as you know. And Chino's Fallon, whom we just played, was averaging about 175 yds a game but had one of his worst against us. We're excited to face a full on passing attack, so bring it on.

Any good passing attack is NEVER meaningless in any game. Some teams run and pass and some teams pass more than run..
Ask The Patriots or Colts then get back to me with some facts.
COP/Coach
Not missing anything with the Glendora QB. His stats are very poor in league and especially in the big games.
By the way, better check Glendora running game to, not that great with NO real speed threats as some have mentioned.

LA Conq,
I don't think you want to go their.

It's your MOM!
You don't need to spell check. I wasn't writing an essay.
I remember #34 on the Charter Oak team laying out Gilmore.

LA Conq,
Wilson has the best varsity and freshman running backs hands down. Your varsity team is going to have a real tuff time stopping Gilmore and freshman team is going to even have a harder time stopping Vega.

Go Big A
Thanks for doing the numbers:)
But, they are meaningless in this situation.
Cop/Coach said it correctly when he stated Baca must throw the ball every possession as Ayala has no running attack. This inflates his passing numbers. Glendora, on the other hand, can run and throw. Kaluzney may only attempt 1 maybe 2 passes per possession with great accuracy at the right time. Kaluzney doesn't throw to one "favorite" receiver. He has several excellent choices to pass to, who can run the ball after reception. Glendora's running attack is split between 3 to 4 running backs... each are quality runners.
I really like Ayala, don't get me wrong. They have accomplished quite a bit this season. It seems Ayala's last two victories were cases of capitalizing on last minute turnovers. Tartans have played the season with very few turnovers.
The point here is the Tartans are difficult for the oppossion to plan strategies against as they have multiple weapons, not just one receiver or running back to double team. Not to mention, the Tartan D is relentless and will not give up much realestate.
Tartans 35
Bulldogs 14

who cares about a freshman qb..no threats dad..play with the big boys before you put your son in the hall of fame...
Posted by: Anonymous | October 31, 2007 2:45 AM
To- Go Big A, you are missing the boat on Glendora's Kaluzny. His numbers may not match Baca's. This is due to the fact that they have a multi-faceted running game. Kaluzny doesn't have to throw too much because Glendora has not been behind too much this season.
I like your WR Quiroga. His dad is a good friend/ex-coworker. I almost had him talked into transferring David to Damien after his frosh year. Sorry Coach Morrison...I tried!
Sorry Tartan fans (and especially Drew and his parents), but I feel that Chris Allen, not Drew Kaluzny will be the best QB in the area next season. Of course, I'd love to have either QB for my team anytime.

only the big games matter
We'll lets see the facts:
Baca 165 yards against Chino Hills and Kalunzy 42
Baca 3 Sierra League games:
49/81
.604%
10TD
4INT
754 yards in league which is 45% of his total yards YTD
Now Big K
3 Sierra League Games
13/29
.448%
4 TD
0 Int
147 yards in league which is 17.9% of his total yards
Who's the threat? Are you kidding me! Kalunzy one of best in the SGV ... Wrong!

Thanks Steve Ramirez,
Just got finished reading the article you wrote today on the local area standouts, West Covina's
Walter Thurmond, South Hills Jeremy & Bryan Payton, & Cal Hi/St. Paul's Nick Grigsby, nice to keep tabs on the local talent. Thurmond is having
a solid year as a sophmore, I knew about his fumble recovery return for a touchdown vs Michigan, but not about his interception, and I didn't realize he has 72 tackles this year, coming from a corner back that seems pretty outstanding, and judging from his solid performance vs USC on saturday I could see how he
would have 72 tackles so far this season.
I've heard that the Oregon Coach has called Mike Maggiore and was real happy with Walter. Oregon also picked up West Covina's William Wallace who graduated last year and is red shirting this year.

Got to pick Glendora to win this Friday over Ayala. Ayala is a very good team, but because of their record the last few years, they have not played or experienced CIF calliber competition which truly hardens a team. Many of the Glendora players have played against the likes of Hart (giving Hart a run for their money) and Redlands. This kind of competition matures players quickly and does have an affect on mental performance in the BIG games.
Ayala, being a passing team, will have the face the likes of Nichols, R. Young, Edwards and Beckwith in the long ball. On the shorter passes, the Tartan crushing crew; C. Young, Niles, Horn (All League) and Glassman will be ready to terminate any receivers crossing their paths. Ayala will have no chance of running the ball or screen passing with D-linemen Kovar(All League) and Bowdery in the QB's face all night long.
The Tartans are blessed with running backs to spare; Vega (All League), Karnowsky, Holmes and Tarango, each are breakaway threats. How about those receivers! Johnson, Jackson, Gonzales and, one of the biggest threats in the SGV after receiving the ball, Edwards!
QB Kaluzney is unquestionably, one of the top QB's in the area. Only 1 interception. He's a passing and running threat.
The o-line is big and tough; Mcgarry (All League), Sefton, Bachman, Lilly and others.
The Tartans are loaded, healthy and ready to play Friday!
This is the year of the Tartan!

It is really great to see such clean language in here again.
Fred, as a DR supporter and having seen both LA and Wilson up close, I think you will be the one who is paying for the meal. LA has shown they can play without Bryce. In fact, if it were not for the sloppy defensive coverage in the last 40 seconds of the game, LA would have won on the field against us.
As for Wilson, try to remember that DR was without its MOST VALUABLE PLAYER--THEIR COACH!!
Wilson did not show anything great. DR held Wilson to NO, 0, ZERO, NADA, NIL first downs throughout the first quarter and part of the second quarter. They were continually starting at their own 35 or less. They were very turn over prone and they could not stop DR's speed.
What changed? TOO MANY PENALTIES, MISSED COVERAGES, DROPPED PASSES AND SUSTAINED ENERGY. To go through what DR did in the previous week--ineligible player leading to forfeiting all wins, coach ejected from previous game, coach not on sidelines, and whatever other emotion you can think of. All-in-all, DR did really good.
When it comes to LA-Wilson on Friday night, I would look for LA to RUN, RUN, RUN all over Wilson. They are too fast for Wilson and LA has more heart for winning.

I'm lovin this matchup Friday at Citrus Stadium. Tartans have had some great matchups agianst stiff competition, but none of those games are as big as THIS one. The reason? for both teams it for ALL THE MARBLES. Both CIF tickets are punched, now it's for the Sierra Crown and a better seeding in the playoffs. Wow, most of us in Tartan land quietly felt that if we could get to this point in the season 3-0 in league, the title would be ours. Ayala, props to you for coming on big. You will challagne our pass defense like no other. It's up to Bowdry, Kovar, Young and gang to put pressure on the QB. Our veteran DB core...come on Edwards, Nichols, Young, Mraz and our deep guy Beckwith. Nice to see you playing well at the right time. Let's add to those 10+ Ints. and lay a blanket on those wideouts and backs. The Solid LB core will be all over the field in both run and pass support. A big test for you as well. The offense needs to just be consistant, pound the ball with a little of our own passing game thrown in. Do what you do best...not turning over the football and controlling the line. Ayala will bring all they have. They can smell this one so we have to bring that much more energy. Can't wait for the atmosphere and the pagentry (I can hear the bagpipes now), but most of all THE GAME! Playoff atmosphere. Don't miss it.

can't wait to see the glen/ayala game. saw glendora aginst chino hills. man o man, glendora is big and tough. loads of talent spread throughout that team. defense plays very good together from the line to the db's. ayala sounds there up for the battle, but will have to play the top of their game every possesion to even score. so many weapons on glendoras offense. glendoras qb will be the #1 sgv area qb going into next season. hes only a jr.

Yeah Fred.Niice picks this week.See the Wilson-LA game as pretty off though, Wilson is terrible. They gave an overrated DR a tough challenge last week but I think LA even with all the injuries should dominate Wilson still.Something to the effect of 34-10?The Rowland-Walnut game is a toss up but I agree with the Rowland pick though.
To the ND/Crist talk.Crist is the real deal and he has faced the tough competition(ie:SERVITE/SAUGUS/BIRMINGHAM/CANYON-CC).He is the real deal.As far as high school is concerned, he is the 2nd best QB in California to date well behind Matt Barkley.Moving on to ND and D-1, it is going to be a tough transition but he has the size and athleticism to be a good QB in college.I think as far as upside is concerned, Jimmy Clausen is a much better QB prospect.I see Clausen stepping into the starting role next season as a Sophomore and seeing Crist redshirt his freshman year and fill in the back-up role the next year with Clausen as a Junior.Crist has some mechanical issues still and doesn't really have the prototypical 'laser' so to speak. He will be good but it will take a lot of work beforehand.
Homecoming Game: Ayala @ Glendora, Citrus College:
Get out to this one!Haven't seen Ayala play yet but was really shocked not only to beat Damien.(Despite being outplayed all of 46 minutes)And then completely shocked over the win against Chino Hills.Still yet to see thm play but it is obvious this is a confident and talented group and Glendora is going to have much more than they bargained for this Friday.Consistency on the offensive side of things is a must for the Tartans. There isn't much to poke holes at as far as the Tartan defense is concerned. If they can prevent the big plays and the offense can avoid the mistakes they have made at times the past two years, this should be a Tartan win.Ofcourse Ayala will come in hyped up and no doubt ready to play. That said, its got to be the Tartans title to lose. They are the stronger team but team speed should factor into this.If the boys aren't conditioned for this game, it could turn out bad.Expecting big performances out of that fierce LB core and obviously the secondary will be put to the test. The Tartans have to set the tone early. If they try to get into a finesse battle with Ayala, it won't be good.Pound them with a heavy dose of Vega/Young/Karnoski and get Tarango into some open space and it could be a long night for Ayala.Ayala needs to force turnovers and try to avoid a completely one dimensional offensive attack and they have certainly got a shot.In the end, Tartans too strong.Pull away with a late Russell Johnson-Andrew Kaluzny connection to cap a long drive and the Tartans win it, 31-17.

Even though I am a Covina "Homer" I like what I have seen from Baldwin Park, however I believe the Colts will win by 6 since BP has been inconsistant and the Colts are hungry for some respect...
Either way good luck to both teams and especially to the kids I know so well on both sides of the ball...
Angel, Rod, Billy, Nick etc... Have a great game and go get em...

Here's my take on this weeks Montview League showdown. First of all. I don't claim to be an expert but I love high school football. Unless you actually go out and witness a high school team over the course of a season, it's not always easy picking who's going to win the big game. You can read into all of the stats and stories but you have to check it out for yourself. A couple of my friends coach at Duarte so we always talk Duarte/LP football and I've also had the opportunity to check three of their games. I'm reall
