You will be banned

This weekends Saturday Morning Quarterback was the worst, and won't be tolerated any longer. The foul-language, signing on with well-known users screen names, and going so off topic that it's turning away our favorite people. I now have the authority to ban IP Addresses, and already have banned a few. If you're a regular poster, and someone else is using your screen name, email me ASAP and I will ban the imposters. To everyone else, consider this your only warning. And if you are banned and want to be reconsidered, you'll have to email me personally at fred.robledo@sgvn.com.
Sorry it came to this, but enough is enough.
Need your input: What are your thoughts on registration? You would still be anonymous but be required to use a screen name to post comments. Hopefully, these were just a few idiots I had to ban over the weekend and we can go back to normal conversation. Personally, I'd like to avoid registration. But if it comes to it, we may have to do it for the sanity of the blog.

FRED;
JUST TOOK A LOOK BACK ON THE BLOG. I HAVE NOT BEEN ON SINCE LAST SEASON...FINALLY YOU HAVE BROUGHT BACK INTEGRITY TO THE HIGH SCHOOL PREP BLOG. I CANT TELL YOU HOW HORRIBLE SOME OF THESE BLOGGERS CAN BE TO THESE KIDS. SHAMEFUL, DISRESPECTFUL AND MOST OF ALL JUDGEMENTAL. TAKE IT FROM A MOTHER WHO HAD TO DEAL WITH IT ALL. GOD FORBID YOUR SON IS A HIGH PROFILE PLAYER BECAUSE THEY WILL RIP INTO EVERY PART OF YOUR LIFE EXCEPT FOR FOOTBALL ABILITY. THANKS FOR TAKING A STAND FOR ALL THE FUTURE PLAYERS IN THE SGV! GOOD JOB!

For what it's worth, I think that you should have user registration. We've been down this road before. Aram said he would clean it up, and it only was a matter of time before things got dirty again. If I recall correctly, this is not the first time you've brought up the possibility of registration. Well, here we are again back where we started. I'm sure that the comments will be better for a short amount of time, but without accountability, the discussion will just deteriorate again. Registration doesn't curtail anyone's free speech, it merely makes them accountable for their free speech. Racist comments and hateful comments are not welcome in this online community.
I also think that registering will make users stick to 1 screen name. Users who use multiple screen names often kill conversations because they don't have to stand by what they say. If someone refutes their point, they simply change user names and go along their merry way. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but this is exactly why I am more of a reader on this blog and less of a poster these days. But, that's just my opinion.

Fred,
I fully agree with this post, keep in mind that the so called definition of insanity is to "Do the same thing over and over again and to expect different results"...
Without a log in system the comments will get progressively worse after a cooling off period under your new rules...

To everyone, there will undoubtedly continue to be comments that you're not comfortable with, especially when it comes to critique's of coaches and players. I don't know a sports blog anywhere where criticism doesn't exist. But when the comments are obvious and unnecessary personal attacks, or go into off-topic racial slurs, those are the type of comments and people that will be banned from this site. 95 percent of you can comment like you've always have. It's only a few people that stumble in here now then who try to ruin it for everyone.
Posted by: FredJ | October 29, 2007 9:51 PM
AJ, I don't know if there is a big downside. Me personally, I surf other blogs and like it when I can casually leave a quick message without having to register. I'm sure it won't be a problem for regular posters, but not everyone posts regularly, and some are turned off when they have to fill out forms.
Posted by: FredJ | October 29, 2007 9:39 PM
Fred,
As a reader of the blog who sometimes throws his hands up and stops reading for a while due to some of the people you will now crack down on, I have to ask: what is the possible down side of registration?
Posted by: AJ | October 29, 2007 9:18 PM
Good luck Fred.
Posted by: jeffrulerson | October 29, 2007 9:08 PM
Jeff, I can always go to registration, but lets see how this works. If people start to post trash, I'll ban them, it's as simple as that.

Fabulous Freddy,
I say it's about time, what you did in two months is something we fought for with Aram for a few years. I'm hoping this came out of respect for the kids and coaches more so than you wanting to protect the bloggers. The kids and coaches were taking a beating here last couple weeks...Never ok to call out a kid on here. Remember back in school and how you worried about a zit or a chick not liking you...that's how fragile you are in high school and to read about yourself on here and how you suck etc...was not cool or productive. Cheers to Fred and let's see if it works.

Good going Fred, this great high school football blog was headed downhill real fast these past couple of weeks, way to put a stop to it.
I don't have a problem with this blog if it requires a screen name to post, seems like every
HS football message board does it & it doesn't slow the boards down, it gets old reading all these anonymous post without having any kind of reference as to who is writing it.

Don Fred,
You know I have been here since the beginning and I don't care who's tenure the blog is under. This past week was the worst that I have EVER seen. And be it Fred or A.T. it was the worst PERIOD! and that's not Fred's fault, the guy has a life away from the paper and the blog.
Oh and did I see you call me Mike the CLOWN. I see it's ok for DON FRED the self appointed mighty moral one to call names but it's not ok for others. Look DF, if you wanna call me a CLOWN and it makes you feel good, more power to ya, but don't come in here on your moral high horse and start throwing your verbal trash can around and do the same exact thing that your complaining about in the blog.
And to use your own words........
"I think it's always the punks and the bullies that take the time to stand up and cry morality when they are really the clowns in the parade. Mike The Clown and Joe Amat are the spineless worst of them all."
Looks like your beef is with me, Joe Amat and Aram. (Who I know still prowls these pages) but have a take why and don't suck. I'm sure Joe and I can handle anything you throw our way in regards to High School football.
And to use your own words again....
"Let this be a lesson. Talk football. Don't agree SO WHAT! It's a game. Again TALK FOOTBALL or SPORTS! Technique, fundamentals, coaching decisions, lack of discipline."
So much for practicing what you preach!
OUT!

I kind of had a feeling it would come to this and I am real glad Fred has made a point not to put up with it. Back in the Aram days when it all started it was fun, good natured and there were strong opinions, some even coming from myself. When it got to be F-this, your Mother that, Clowning and getting away from HS sports topics the blog became a joke and I had no use for it. MT Clone you could not have said it any better my brother. As far as Amat takes. I am taking a beating with my Lancers but nonetheless hanging in there. I never say die and look forward to the Notre Dame game this Friday. Win or Lose This team makes me proud. What Men they are to go out and play the game reguardless of what most are saying about them. All players are fighting on in these losing battles, but they still remain Strong as teamates and friends on and off the field. To the Seniors,, tight friendships were made since freshman year and they will remember each other as they graduate in June, as the team that just did not get it done but their memories as classmates and varsity players Wearing the Golden A will last forever. My Senior tells me he and his teamates talk about how they have disappointed us parents and fans but that they will not give up and continue to try to win in these last two games, not for themselfs but for Amat and its student body. Hey anything can happen. Mighty Are The Men That Wear The Blue And Gold. Thanks for cleaning up Fred.

Hope this doesn't get me banned Fred but I found Lancer Lunatic's blogging vomit all over the threads, several times, over and over much more offensive than Robert Gilpin. But that's just me. On some level it was funny to see all the bloggers scramble to protect their good blogger names and to find themselves defenseless against his attacks. Kind of like the coaches and administrators feel when some bloggers go at them without mercy and without any sense of decency. That was funny to me. Now that "he's" gone...and rightfully so, isn't it just a little bit like seeing bullies get punched in the face!
Let this be a lesson. Talk football. Don't agree SO WHAT! It's a game. Again TALK FOOTBALL or SPORTS! Technique, fundamentals, coaching decisions, lack of discipline. But if you look at Bishop Amat Football (Verti, his parents, his mother, the AD, Monsignor, any coach not named Wiard ect.), Charter Oak Baseball (Coach Tom you know the Championship Coach that likes to "abuse" kids for no reason...yeah right!),Glendora Baseball ( Coach Henly...and his son), Damien Baseball( Caoch Pro's habit),Mike Mc Donough (everything under the sun, his mother, his dad, his record, his 'tude. ect) Crutchfield (racists antics...opps his high energy coaching style, his lack of ..well everything)Damien Dad's (kids, being a disgrace, ect ect ect)and many many more ridiculous comments about others. How about Roosevelt74...were those comments "racists" in nature or were we just "giving it to him"...chuckle chuckle??
Where were all the "moralists" then? Where were the "That's uncalled for comments?" Where were the "moralists" then? Hell where was "Aram" then? Other than egging it on or letting it "slide" I'm glad Fred's here and handling it his way. (First the trust, then the rules and now the announcement of the Hammer!) Kind of like parenting. I think Fred you stopped it after the right amount of "simmering/marinating" (although unlike Aram I'm sure purely unintentional)...I think it's always the punks and the bullies that take the time to stand up and cry morality when they are really the clowns in the parade. Mike The Clown and Joe Amat are the spineless worst of them all. But they are at times the funniest, the most informed and the most popular...just like high school bullies. And just like high school they have their "fans" and yet after high school most of their "peers" will admit..."Why did I even think they wre cool?" So maybe anonymous (the idiot not the clever one... or is the clever one the idiot?...I get confused), Mike the Clown and Joe Amat can take a lesson from our friend Bobby G and not make it soooooooo personal anymore. We got "it" the first hundred times you made your, "I'm so much smarter than__________." (fill in the blank)
Thanks Fred for being a professional. How's your nephew Art and his millionaire son. How he got those millions is a story that's both tragic and funny at the same time. Just like this blog.

The post below is just a good example of "Taming the Tongue" GREAT EXAMPLE FOR US ALL!
FRED, CLEAN IT UP, MIKE at October
Thank you for making this an important issue.
We all need to try (not easy) to make this a respectful blog for HS sports.
One thing to remember, this isn't the next level yet and we are dealing with 14-18 year old HS kids. I believe most parents have a good handle on the negativity that faces us all in life and it is our responsibility to bring certain things to your attention Fred. I will honor your wishes and do that like some have this weekend.
This old dog learned some new tricks this morning! How many of us have said something in our lives that we wish we could take back? To our kids, spouses, coaches, or people we don’t even know… like this blog?
This weekend, the race remarks, coach’s attacks, player attacks, school attacks, just went too far. Sure its part of life, but doesn’t make it right.. Whether you believe in the power of the word or not, I leave you with some thoughts to consider:
1.Read the book of James – all of which highlight the power of the tongue.
2.Memory Verse James 3:2 - “For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a PERFECT MAN, able to bridle the whole body as well”
Enjoy your Sunday everyone and keep the faith and god bless America!

Fred,
I was going to fire off a e-mail this past weekend to let you know about the nonsense that was going on but as I can see you have a handle on it.
When guys come in here and start disrepecting the oldtimers like Joe Amat, CO Bro, Big Daddy, Joe Colt, SGVPride, Living Legend, Conq'76, Plaid Lad, FANatic, Vanner, MAT, Bluorca you know it's out of control. In fact we lost a great poster in Anymouse awhile back because of the same crap that was going on over the past week in here.
I know I'm missing a few of my friends on this list but they deserved better than the havoc that was going on with their screenames. And frankly it's one of the reasons with the limited time I have I wasn't posting.
So to the oldtimers that I have mentioned above, you guys have my utmost respect and hope you guys realize that if some "dope" is posting under my screename or as some "offspring" of mine you know it's not me. Most of us have been here from the inception and we pretty much know each others takes and look out for the blog. It's ashame that some abuse it.
Also on a sad note tonight will be the first time I have missed a "Bagpiper" game in 3 years. I'll be a wreck all night checking the scoreboard here online.
Thanks for getting control Fred and I know I speak on behalf of the blog "oldtimers" and say thanks.
I AM OUT!

Great work!
IP blocking is a great step. Registration is good, but on some sites tends to slow activity. You've got it really going here, so if we continue to police ourselves and work together we usually identify the riff-raff and out the imposters in a short time.

Thanks so much for this fred... this is my first year using the blog and its nice to see when players/teams are highly talked about in a good way, while at the same time the teams that did not have a good week were encouraged for the rest of the season. And then you get the few, while actually more than a few now, that have toilet mouths and they start to really put down these KIDS that are just playing a game and trying to enjoy it, weather a loss or win. thanks for bringing the blog to the way it is meant to be used.......... FOR PRAISE AND ENCOURAGEMENT!!
