Breaking News: Wilson football coach Robert Oviedo resigns

| | Comments (3504) |

Wilson football coach Robert Oviedo resigned this week. We'll have more in Thursday's newspaper. Oviedo will remain a teacher at the school, but wanted to take a year off to spend more time with his family. Oviedo has two kids, and his wife Dr. Monica Oviedo is the principal at Santa Fe. It was a good season for the Wildcats, who beat Los Altos to recapture the "Wheel" for the first time in nine years, and they advanced to the CIF-SS Southwest Division quarterfinals. Oviedo was at Wilson for seven years, and finishes with an overall record of 34-41-1.

So who is this quarterback in the forth year. What is booth going for 1 extra year at middle school and 1 extra year at high school.

Anonymous said:

No. Next four years.

Anonymous said:

To clear that up, 2011/2012 season. I think you mean the next three years.

Anonymous said:

ConqAlum,

First of all who is this incoming freshman quarterback that is going to lead LA in 2012. I have seen the sophomore and freshman quarter backs in action. They should be better than this years qb, but no way are they leading us to a CIF Championship. None of these quarterbacks have the heart, to be a leader. I always like Castanda's game, the kid came out and gave 100% every game. I know he had those 3 or 4 games that he was off, but he stayed in and took the hit. I don't see that in any of these quarterbacks and you need that at the varisty level.

ConqAlum said:

From what I've seen coming up, barring injury, or transfer out, LA qb's will be fine for the next four years.

"If that's the case, I'm sure the lines coach made the right decision."

The way I heard it, there wasn't really a decision... unless he was going to move one of the other linemen over and create another hole, I suppose. That's the problem with linemen... you really have no idea if they're going to be any good until you see them in pads against live competition.

It was neither the first nor last time 'plan A' went out the window at LA.

"OK, Any word on any potential transfers."

Not a thing yet, but it's only December. I'm sure we'll hear more sometime near the end of the semester. Then we'll hear the chorus of whining about recruiting, as usual.

Anyway, the first thing that needs to happen to make LA's roster more solid is for all the sophmores that were ineligible this year to get their butts in gear so they can play next season.

I will tell you this much I am on the other blog resending Gilmore's stats so everyone out their will see the real numbers of the real POY.

For those of you from the other side,

read the following,

Lead his team to the second round of the playoffs, a team that was projected to finish last in league.

Gilmore 1978 rushing yards
Gilmore 406 receiving yards
Gilmore 232 interception yards (17th in the Nation)
Gilmore 5 interception

GILMORE 174 POINTS
GILMORE 29 TOUCHDOWNS

Can any one match these numbers?

Could you image the numbers with a quality line?

If the award is Most Valuable Player, no way it can go to anyone other than Gilmore.

You are in a tuff situation at Wilson, being that most of the football talent in the area goes to LA. The idea person to take the job is a person from the area that can start to pull some of the local talent to Wilson, or a person that can pull some of the talent from the team that he is currently coaching. If you show the kids in the Wilson area that Wilson can produce a winning team then they will stay with their friends aka go to Wilson.

Anonymous said:

what kind of potential does Wilson have? Who would want the job? seems like they are always at or near the bottom? I am not jabbing but asking questions.Want honest, well thought out answers.

Anonymous said:

Your comments on the bottom weren't very clear.

I pulled these comments out of the article;

"Johnny Crespo, Jonathan Clark, and Kanaan Snowden combined for more than 600 yards rushing behind durable senior Brian Hunter, who averaged 127 yards a game."

“four kids making an impact on defense, even though they were a bunch of scrawny kids.”

"Sophomores Nick Padilla, Thomas Delgado, Thomas Alva, James Robles and receiver Mikey Harrell continued to get their feet wet, making contributions when given an opportunity."

And finally,

"They were a skinny, scrawny little group who had a lot of chemistry. They were forced on the field on offensive, defense and special teams. We took it on the chin in a few situations, but they played hard, got better and came back as juniors and set the world on fire."

That being said no way is Gano going with a bunch of sophomores his last year. Gano has a one year plan to put a winning team together. I see lots of senior transfers coming into LA this year or Gano is gone.

LA Football said:

Chargers' three-year plan
Fourteen seniors began Charter Oak varsity career as sophomores
By Fred J. Robledo, Staff Writer

• 2 Minute Drill: Trabuco Hills vs Charter Oak
COVINA - It was an unusual move, even for Charter Oak High School football coach Lou Farrar, but the potential was worth the risk.

In the summer of 2005, Farrar and his staff contemplated long and hard about bringing up 14 sophomores to varsity, knowing the early experience under the lights could be beneficial in the years ahead.

Turns out the veteran coach was right again.

It was a season in which the Chargers finished a modest 8-4 and advanced to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division VI playoffs, but those sophomores played a huge role.

Drew Carreon, now a 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker, was the quarterback, throwing for 1,706 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Johnny Crespo, Jonathan Clark, and Kanaan Snowden combined for more than 600 yards rushing behind durable senior Brian Hunter, who averaged 127 yards a game.

David Altamirano, Michael Howard, Ben Counce, Raymond Washington and Domanic Blanco were already making an impact on defense, even though they were a bunch of scrawny kids.

Sophomores Nick Padilla, Thomas Delgado, Thomas Alva, James Robles and receiver Mikey Harrell continued

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
to get their feet wet, making contributions when given an opportunity.
"It was the largest group of sophomores in my 40 years of football that I ever brought up in one group," Farrar said. "It wasn't a desperate thing, we felt these were guys that would be big for us down the road, and could also contribute right away.

"They were a skinny, scrawny little group who had a lot of chemistry. They were forced on the field on offensive, defense and special teams. We took it on the chin in a few situations, but they played hard, got better and came back as juniors and set the world on fire."

Carreon moved to linebacker as a junior with sophomore Chris Allen taking over at quarterback, and the Chargers took off.

Charter Oak won the 2006 Miramonte League title and advanced to the CIF-SS Southwest Division championship game, losing to El Dorado, 17-6.

Now seniors, the "Big 14" not only won the Miramonte for a second consecutive season, but find themselves back in the division's semifinals. The No. 2-seeded Chargers (10-1-1) will host No. 3 Trabuco Hills (11-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

"They were totally crushed losing in the finals last year," Farrar said of his third-year seniors. "This is their last year and they haven't stopped wanting. We've asked throughout the year how they want to be remembered, but we know they answer.

"They want to go out on top and they're approaching the end of their high school careers. They know every time they step on the field is a special time for them. This is their opportunity to leave their legacy, and they're working hard throughout the week to give themselves their best opportunity.

If the Chargers win, they advance to the championship for a second consecutive season and would get either a rematch with top-ranked El Dorado, or meet up with South Hills in what would be a historic all-San Gabriel Valley classic.

South Hills (10-2) faces El Dorado (11-1) on Saturday at Valencia High School in Placentia.

"We just want to get back to the finals," Snowden said. "We don't care who it is as long as it's us playing them."

Crespo said the seniors had been close long before they started playing football at Charter Oak. It goes back to middle school and even elementary school.

"I've known most of these guys since seventh grade," Crespo said. "For a lot of us, it goes back to our (Charter Oak) youth football days of Gremlin football."

Padilla talked about growing up at Charter Oak football games, and picturing himself in those uniforms.

"If you were making a movie about us, you'd be surprised how many of us were running around the stadium when we were 10 and 11-years old," Padilla said. "We're like that group of neighborhood kids that grew up together and know everyone's families. It's a tight group. We even look forward to two-a-days during the summer, because we get to all hang out."

It's a group of seniors without a particular standout, which is just how Blanco likes it.

"The all star on this team is the team itself," Blanco said. "If we win it all, that's how it's going to happen, with everyone doing their part. That's what got us here, and that's how we're going to finish it."

Anon,

The article states 14 sophmores.

My mistake. I meant 14 sophmores.

Anonymous said:

sorry,

12 is two short of your number 14 sophomores starting.

Anonymous said:

LA Football,

Why do you come on this blog with numbers that you can't back up? Due to two way players you have around 16 starters per team. The 05' Charter Oak team had only 12 sophomores on the team as a comparison our team had 13 sophomores that year. Of the 12, one was a lineman and one was a Defensive end. Now are you going to try and sell us that all 12 started (one short of your number), which left about 4 spots for the 18 returning seniors and 15 juniors.

LA Football said:

Look at this year Charter Oak team that had 14 starters for three years. Tell that to Farrar. If he you think that was crazy.

And "NO" I don't think they are going to to do that. What I'm trying to say LA will have some depth on the line for the next three years.

Anonymous said:

If you are trying to tell us that a sophomore line on the varsity team is going dominate your crazy. Those kids would be the weakest line in the league. From what I have been told we have one kid from that freshman team that might see some varsity time, other than that JV.

LA Football said:

Have you seen the line size on that LA Freshman team. Opening huge holes. Any running back wanting to further his career would love. I mean your talking 6'5", 6'3", 6'2", 5'11", 6' ranging from 190 to 245 lb kids with huge frames. Plus the already big kids on the JV side.

LA definetly has a line to start with.

Anonymous said:

The talk around LA is that Gano wanted to quite football and focus on softball. Now he doesn't want to leave with a 4-6 record as his last season, so he is going to coach one more year. The real issue is the 34 seniors leaving and the junior class isn't that strong. Next year he isn't going to go very far with a team full of Juniors. Two options lots of transfers or stay on two years, I don't see the LA team going very far with what they got now.

Anonymous said:

Respect the families wishes, drop the subject.

bystander said:

All I have to say that all the talk about Gilmore transfering to another school to get more exposure is probably a mute point. Gilmore will be lucky to graduate from high school much less survive at a top notch school like Oregon or other major program. His football talent will most likely reach its potential owing to his other deficiencies.

The reality of this discussion are the kids. Look around the children from China, India, Korea, Germany ETC are kicking our childrens ass all over the place. Football is a path to further their education. Football also takes them of the streets when their parents are working and keeps them out of trouble. Sad part about most football teams is that there only focus is to win football games. As a parent you should ask yourself who are these people that are coaching my son. What is there philosophy? How committed are there to see your child succeed in life? Do they love your child? Haceinda Heights is spec on the map but the next president, Noble Peace Prize winner, a cure for cancer & aids could come from here, but the sad part is most of you would perfer to win a football game.

Dang, This Los Altos Wilson fighting is just as funny as the cougars fighting with HLP for control of Hacienda Heights get a clue on how grown men are arguing on a blog about What High School is better? Who's a better coach? What size shoes the quaterback wears? ect. The bottom line is every parent is going to do what's best for the son, but I believe the child should be giving a choice on where he want's to play and the parents should support them no matter what but I believe in pointing your son in the best challenge as possible and schools like LA,SH,Damien,DR give those challenges, if your son can't compete then he's not a good football player and doesn't deserve to play you want a star send him to BASSETT or Wilson LP or Worman he'll get plenty of playing time there.

"How would you feel if your child was one of those kids that worked his way through the system and his senior year Gano brings in a recruit to replace him?"

-----------------------------------------------------

If your child is not good enough to beat out an incoming transfer, then he doesn't deserve the position in the first place, even if he's been with the "program" from his freshman year. The best player wins the job.

Gano doesn't make "starting job" promises to incoming transfers, because he's not going to pigeonhole himself into one option when another may be right around the corner.

You may not like it, but this is how the world turns. Survival of the fittest. On the playing field, or in the business world.

Keep your blinders on, and enjoy your nice, safe, Wildcat World, and know that by "protecting" your son, your also denying him the chance to prove himself against some of the better talent in the SGV.

P.S. That goes for Gilmore as well. He should take his talent to the OC, and showcase it with one of the Pac 5 elites. It would be a shame to see his talent wasted over the next two years in the desolation that is Wilson High Football. Nowadays, Orange County high school football is the easiest path to playing saturdays.

LA Conq said:

You know what guys...GRI is right. It's not fair to the players who have been at LA for 3 years to have a transfer come in and take their spot. Gano really should have told McBride to go back to Amat. Sorry Tamayo, we don't want you, we already have a QB. You know what Ortiz, don't bother tranfering, we have a couple receivers already lined up.

I think that's exactly how it should go...don't let kids who want to transfer to better their opportunties come in and play. Tell them "Tough nuts kid, that's not how we do it here at LA...even though that's how they do it everywhere else." You'll probably counter this argument by saying "they didn't choose to come in...Gano went and recruited them"...yeah, whatever, if you have evidence of that then please call CIF so we can end this debate.

And by the way, that's a great lesson for life too. We all know that no one ever gets replaced in the work place if someone better than them comes along right? If I'm not very good at my job and someone else comes in and impresses the boss with his work ethic and skill I'm sure the boss will tell him, "sorry...we don't do that kind of thing in this business". But that's a stupid argument of mine, schools are here to make our kids feel good about themselves...not prepare them for real life, RIGHT?

You know what's funny GRI...You don't seem to have a problem with the fact that the Wilson QB this year TRANFERRED IN FROM LA! According to your logic that's not fair to the kid who got replaced! Hmmmmmmm...

Another head coach who would talk to a dad about other coaches is obviously not a professional. Send your kid to Wilson because he's obviously not welcoming competition. High School sports is this way at a lot of high schools. Why don't you go after Bogan and Farrar? They have a ton of out of towners on their teams. By the way, it's not illegal to have players away from your zone if they're on permit, that's a CIF Rule, so who is breaking rules? You're a coward, to come here and continuously bash someone and not leave your name is pure cowardice. No good luck to you or your son, I hope you guys suck it up...Leave your kid back another year you gloryhoggin Dad. I see it now, you're going to hate life after sonny is moved out and gone to college...nothing going to be left for Daddy Blowhard to do. To be honest with you I support and attend many of the LA games. I was at the girl’s soccer game at Rowland just yesterday, left work early to watch some friends play. As I have made it perfectly clear I don’t support Gano’s football staff and the way they run the program at LA. I do support all the kids involved in the program. Some of these kids are family and I wish them the best.

I will not support a person that builds a varsity football team not around but with recruits. Los Altos is suppose to represent the Hacienda Heights area, not an All Star team of San Gabriel Valley. How would you feel if your child was one of those kids that worked his way through the system and his senior year Gano brings in a recruit to replace him? I have multi friends that have been in that situation. That is why my son and others will not play for the man. You know everyone is watching and waiting for the next batch of kids he is going to bring in. His staff has already stated that they need to reload to compete next year. LA has some great football players in their sophomore class. These kids will be juniors next year, work with them next year and go for the title in ’09. Be a coach not a recruiter.

Joe Amat,

I know this connection with the St. Paul Slim has got to end sometime, but I believe that Oviedo has spent time coaching under Ansich the legend of St. Paul and his teams were always disciplined and played with heart. I do not want to speculate on the Wilson kid on weather he will stay.

Lets start by purging some of our Slim, Msgr. Carroll must go!!!!

As for the HLP parent that wants Arrellans as Wilson head coach, wow!!!!!. High school is not Pop Warner or Little League.

Do you really want a Pop Warner coach as your head coach. Just think about it, as a pop warner coach you hang with the parents go for pizza and bear. That has to end, along with all the cuddling up to the coach for playing time.

LA Conq,

you hit it right, some people don't get it, the 6 players that you listed counted for 12 starting positions. That is the one knock I have on Gano, good coach but he has way too many key players going both ways. I think he did one of his better coaching jobs this year because of the injuries. It is a shame that Gano didn't have 50-60 players to plug in as Amat does each year.

Let’s talk a little about YOU and YOUR SON. You know the one that doesn’t have to worry about getting those splinters from his rear end at Los Altos since he can’t get on the field due to grades. Do you really want to talk about living your dream through you son, I am not the one that doctored up the Birth Certificate so my son could play with the younger kids and dominate. Now the Quarterback comment, that’s the one that gave it away, no one that really knows my son would make that comment. So I came to the conclusion that it had to be someone with no class and thinks he can coach. Only one name came up, a short bald headed man that is on the Los Altos freshman coaching staff, fits in perfect with LA (thinks he can coach).

"LA with all those injuries was still a talented team compared to Wilson."

Really? I wonder why you think this.

Let's run down the positions, shall we?

RB- Wilson, no contest (though LA had some depth here)
WR- Wilson, no contest
QB- Wilson's transfer was better than LA's
OL- LA, in a margin that steadily decreased as the game went on (no backups, everyone goes both ways)
DL- Same guys as OL for LA.
LB- Probably LA... neither played well that day, but for some reason Oviedo never seems to have a strong LB corps
DB- Wilson, no contest
K- LA
P- Even

You forgot some starters:

Leonard Magillon OL/DL (vs. Charter Oak and Wilson)
Sean Acuna OL/DL (vs. LB Wilson and Damien)
Nick Longoria (vs. Rosemead and LB Wilson)

Not that the "survivors" were exactly unscathed. One of the coaches told me that Ryan Seamans showed up to film on Saturday looking like he had been hit by a truck.

Still, I wonder why we think it's worth arguing with someone insipid enough to think a team can win multiple CIF titles without coaching.

LA Conq,

I will keep this real simple, no one player beats a well coached team. LA with all those injuries was still a talented team compared to Wilson. That being said LA got beat by Gilmore. As you saw for yourself when Wilson played Trabuco Hills, Trabuco Hills stopped Gilmore. That is a well coached team.

Joe Amat said:

ConqFacial,

But I do agree with the rest you have to say.

Los Altos vs Wilson? No Brainer! Gano's record speaks for itself and, in all honesty, we'd love to have him.

I can understand your reasoning for enrolling your child at Wilson. He'll have a much better chance of getting playing time over there than at LA.

But, don't try, and tell us that holding back your son was for academic reasons only. One extra year to get bigger, stronger, faster couldn't hurt, right?

Also, being at Wilson allows you to see directly who his competition is. Since no JR, or SR's with any major talent want to go to Wilson, you won't have to woory about late coming transfers (ala LA).

If you looked at LA's past you'd see that Gano doesn't need to do much in the way of "recruiting" (like Amat). There's a tradition at these kind of schools (as an alum, you should know this) that attracts players.

You should be ashamed of taking the low road for your son. If he wants to be the best he can be, he should be attending your alma mater, playing his best against all comers.

if you can? please think before your jealous fingers start typing. you talk about all those players going to la, what? you think gano recruited all of those players. GET in thru your not-so-smart skull, kids WANT to play at la, thats why they go there.and you were talking about showing your son this blog, saying your teaching him the right thing to do and the right way to act.
then what are you going to tell him when he ask you, dad, what difference does it make what someone else does, its not our concern, why should we worry? and dad. why are you so upset? its none of our and your buisiness.real nice thing to teach your kid.now that i think about it, maybe you are the kid after reading your crying and complaining responses . get over it!!!
so lets see now.
7- semi finals
5- finals
4- cif championships
since 1998
sure sounds like a bad coach to me .
show that to your son and explain how bad gano is as a coach now!!!

Joe Amat said:

GRI,
While I do give you some credit for, at least, a catchy nickname, your mention of the Danny Sandello incident doesn't damage or implicate or defame Los Altos nearly as much as it does South Hills or the family.

The kid transfers to Los Altos for football. Say about that what you will, but at the conclusion of his senior season he is no longer a Los Altos football player and his transfer BACK to South Hills for baseball doesn't necessarily say that Gano/Los Altos football didn't work out.

It really just means that the family took advantage of the system and that they didn't think that Danny could beat out Kevin Mort at Qb at South Hills - so they went to LA. And then they felt that South Hills baseball provided him a better opportunity (even though Los Altos went further in the playoffs that year).

Right? Worthwhile? Ethical? Probably not? Legal? I guess so.
Did it "work out"? He did get to play QB at LA and wouldn't have at SH...then returned to pitch and play SS. For him...athletically...maybe so. Academically...Socially...that's not for us to say.

Football Jones said:

GANO HATERS & GRI,

I attended (4) LA games this year and they seemed very well coached; Special teams were excellent!

OBSERVATION: After injuries, LA's biggest problem...by far...too many offensive turnovers, which in turn taxed a depleted defense.

**EVERY** team eventually has an 'off' year and 07 was LA's.

I they'll be back next year.

Unlike some others on this blog, I have no idea who you are. But I can tell you this: Your evaluation of Gano's absence of coaching this year is severely flawed. I challenge any other coach in the valley to have the injuries that Gano had to deal with this season and still keep his team as competative as the Conqs were this season. Here is a list of the STARTERS that were lost for all or part of the 2007 season.

Bryce McBride RB/DB
Ray Rodriguez TE/DE
Josh Contreras OG/DT
George Perez DB/WR
Richard Maciel MLB/FB
Ryan Howing WR/DB

And that's just the starters! That doesn't take into account the backups that had to come in and take their places who were banged up and injured. The team that was put out on the field for league was partially comprised of JV players...not even varsity back-ups!

Keep throwing stones though GRI...it makes you and your kid look great!

Gano’s Recruiting Incorporated said:

The difference between me and you over at LA, I don't kiss Gano's A** to get my son a spot. My son earns what he gets on the field no Gano back office deals. If like I have said in the past, he's not good enough to be a quarterback so be it. If he’s not good enough to be a kicker so be it. He earns everything on his own merit on the field. It really depends on how bad he wants the spot and how hard he is going to work to get the spot. Based on the comments that you are making I also know who you are, and yes you have gone by at least three different screen names in the last couple of days. You also know that my son is a very motivated young man. I am going to show him your comments on this blog about him. My guess is that he is going to know who is making these comments. Knowing him you may just regret what you wish for in the coming years.

As far as holding my son back, over at LA you have no room to talk. You have a freshman coach over their "Booth" that held his son back last year. Who repeat the same grade at the same school, same work. I as a parent didn't make sure he was going to get the starting quarterback spot by being the head coach of the freshman team this year. Me as a parent didn't use my friendship with the Head Coach of the Varsity team "Gano" to get my spot. That same quarterback in the Wilson game went 0-10 passing, great game. I did hold my son back for many reasons, the major reason being his education. I realize that my son like your son has very little chance of getting a D1 scholarship. I am planning an education path for my son that is realistic. High test scores, high GPA, get accepted at a major university and get a four year degree. I personally feel he would have a better chance at a scholarship in a sport other than football. Not like you, football is HIS current dream so I as a parent am assisting him to obtain his dream. I am fortunate that my son loves playing sports and I can share this love with him. I will assist him in his attempt to obtain HIS goals, not mine. My son may never play high school varsity football due to his size. But the one thing he has over your son is heart, and I am proud of him.

Or then again he maybe on the other side of that ball winning the wheel like the Wilson quarterback that was on the short end of “Gano back office deal”. You know the LA freshman quarterback that got past over for one of Gano's coaches son's as the starting freshman quarterback a few years ago. Be very careful with what you wish for these comments may come back and bit you in the A** like they did this year.

As far as any LA team being all LA kids that is a joke. If you go through any LA rooster at least 1/3 of those kids are out of area. The starting freshman team this year has over 1/3 the kids that live out of the area that I am aware of. That is your freshman team.

I was at a dinner last night that a local high school varsity head coach also attended. We talk about football in the area Oviedo and Gano of course came up. I asked him the question "What do you think of Gano as a Coach". His answer was "I don't know he never has had to coach". After I left the banquet I thought about the answer. In Gano's nine years at LA he never has had to coach. He had a 4-6 team this year. You can make your own conclusions from the comment. He also went on to tell me one year Gano had I believe it was 14 out of his 17 starters at the varsity level had addresses out of the school district, yes 14 out of 17. Los Altos varsity team had three kids starting that came from Hacienda Heights/La Puente, what a joke.

I am a Los Altos Alumni to see what Gano has done to the Program over at LA kills me. It comes down to at what cost do you want to win. If you want to win at all costs then Gano is your man. I personally feel for those kids in the LA program that grew up in the area and really will never play varsity football, their dream will never be fulfilled. What’s real said about it is the parents think that their kid is going to be the exception, their kids going to be that select 3 or 4 starters from the LA area.

There is no way L.A. should of lost 5 games in a row! Even with those key injuries, L.A. still had enough talent to at least win 3 of the five games that they lost. They would not have gone far in the playoffs, but they would of at least made it there. The coaches are the ones who let their team down. I have to give the other schools credit they did a good job preparing for L.A., they knew which players L.A. had left to stop. L.A. coaches on the other hand just stuck their heads between their legs even before the injuries. The injuries happened due to lack of preparation, and also bad luck. They had no clue how to adjust before or during the games. What a joke this season turned out to be. Good luck to Charter Oaks And South Hills, They deserve to be where they are.

2006 record 0-10
2007 record 7-3

How many kids on the 2007 Wilson Freshman team every played tackle football before this year. The number I heard was four, yes four kids. They took a team with four kids with tackle football experience on it to a 7-3 record.

As an comparison how many kids on that LA team had experience, well since I know most of them I would say they had a total of about 45 kids on the team. I would say that about 30 of them have played tackle football in the past. Thats taking into account most of the starting line was to big to every play organized tackle football.

That is what I call coaching, something that you guys over at LA don't understand, due to the lack of it over their.

Coach did a nice job with the "limited" resourses he had. Being a High School Coach is a non-glamor service to a school, kids, and communit (you get about $3,000.00 per season to coach a team). I'm sure wilson high school is thankful for your service! It must be tough to compete in that league with so many school's getting transfers and large school populations with good demographics to choose from. Is there any other jobs going to open up this year?

I HAVE A CHILD THAT WILL NOT BE GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL TILL THE YEAR 2009, BUT WE PLAYED AT HLP THIS YEAR AND WERE COACHED BY COACH ARELLANCE. AS PARENTS WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT WHERE OUR KIDS WILL BE ATTENDING HIGH SCHOOL. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT JUST ABOUT ALL THE LOCAL TALENT IS GOING TO FOLLOW COACH ARELLANCE TO WILSON NEXT YEAR. THE MAJOR REASON FOR THIS IS COACH ARELLANCE AND HIS STAFF COACHING THE FRESHMAN PROGRAM AT WILSON HIGH SCHOOL. THE COMMENT MADE EARLIER ABOUT COACH ARELLANCES GETTING THE VARSITY JOB AT WILSON WOULD BE HUGE AS FAR AS RECRUITING LOCAL TALENT IN THE FUTURE. I WILL TELL YOU THIS MUCH IF COACH ARELLANCE ENDS UP GETTING THE VARSITY HEAD COACHING JOB AT WILSON, MY SON WILL BE THEIR IN 09'.

Joe Amat,

It sounds you like you have someone in mind. Who are you talking/thinking about? I thought the Wilson coach was doing some good things over there to bad he's taking time off.

john,

DON"T say that... another St Paul guy at amat?!?!? That's all we need.... no offense to Oviedo. He's done a pretty good job at Wilson and shouldn't have much time to "spend with his family".

MSGr was a Swordsmen, VP in charge of $$$, VP in charge of discipline, the inept boys basketball coach...ALL former Slime.

However, that does open a local public school job for a young coach with "potential" that has a couple years taking a beating at the highest level and should be looking for a public school job that pays better. Let's get on THAT bandwagon !!!

I wonder why he left?

After seven years you realize the local Talent pull goes to LA. It was a refreshing win to get the Wheel this year. But don't look at it to happen next year. Everyone knows the demographic in the area is changing towards that side of town and it's not coming back any sooner. Parents, if you really want to win some championships send your kid to LA.

Even some of your Wildcat coaches have told LA kids.

BAD Coaches at LA all they have is talent.

Half of that is true.

Man, if they knew what they were saying out there!

Seriously, will see this weekend how are SGV teams fair against the OC teams.

But if you think about it really stacking a local school isn't a bad idea. How are we ever too compete against schools with even a higher talent pull.

Beating ourselves locally. When there is a Bigger Game to be played.

My kid is going to highschool next year and it's going to be LA.

Look at the CIFSTATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES.

CANYON, ORANGE LUTHERAN,OAKS CHRISTIAN

Like the saying says.
United we stand divided we fall.

This thread is about Wilson and you still fell compelled to throw a shot at Gano? Have you ever been diagnosed with any compulsive/obsession disorders or other psychiatric problems?

I know he is a St. Paul guy but what I saw at the LA game he is a very good coach and had complete control of his team. I am sure the family guy thing is I am looking for better things.

He is young, energetic, been around some winning coaches, recruiter and keeps his team playing with poise. Hey Amat fams is this a possible replacement for Verti??????????

I guess Merrill had one final parting shot before he retires. USC doesn't need another water boy.
