Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
each league have all-league selection already, therefore all-cif is for playoff only.
Definately, CIF Honors should be open to everyone and all players should be eligible. All the players previously mentioned did stand out a little more than others not mentioned. Overall good choices.
All CIF should be chosen on how players performed for the entire season. There are alot of teams that have one great player, but nothing else and don't make the playoffs. Unfortunately you cannot pass to yourself in volleyball.
Great choices with those additions mentioned.
I agree with adding St. Lucy's Remy and Los Altos Esquivel. However, I would also add the setter from South Hills. She is also an excellent player. I saw three of their games and was impressed.
I'm not a parent, I just enjoyed attending many of these games and I think those picks are good. Some of these players may have been rotated out, but not because of their inability to play front or back row, but because it's high school and some coaches just want all their players to get playing time especially if they're seniors. So, if you take Max Preps under consideration, just imagine what the stats would be if those players did play all around. Just a thought.
all cif should be chosen on how they did in playoff matches not league matches
what are the chances bonita qualify for state playoff
All CIF: Some of those picks are good. St. Lucy's Remy and Los Altos Esquivel should be on that list. They both are outstanding hitters check out max preps and play all around (front and back row).
All CIF candidates: You should look at the leaders on Max Preps. There are to many biased parents out there that aren't thinking clearly.
All - CIF Teams honors? List your nominations vball fans.
Ayala: Boyd
Bonita: Donaldson
Diamond bar: Brown
Glendora: Bader
Los Altos: Macias
San Dimas:the middle blocker?

This goes to all!!!
Heights Volleyball Club will be having its tryouts this Sunday!!!
Tui and Linda (to all american players) will be the ring leaders along with a few other Cal State LA alumni.
We Hope to have an 18's, 16's, 14's, and 12's.
The cost should be under 1,000 as we are not wanting to profit. As long as the girls improve and the coaches get paid a decent amount for their efforts cost should be much less then most other clubs.
SL JV coach should be coach of the year
Although Bonita came up short, they made the ESGV look good. Very classy team and great fans. Congrats on a nice season.
Everyone should know that the SL JV Coach is an asset to any school. SL is lucky to have him.
Yea negative comments about anyone should not be tolerated. Especially about coaches that are trying to make the players better in volleyball and overall as a person outside of volleyball. Ganesha varsity parents respect SL JV coach for winning with honors at the Bonita summer league championship game. During the championship match the ref was clearly making bogus calls in favor of SL, the SL JV coach went up to the ref along with our Varsity coach to voice about certain obvious calls the ref was calling. We salute your SL JV coach for doing so. We also encountered SL parents yelling at the refs for not calling the games fairly. We also salute to the SL JV parents too for doing so.
My kid played against your SL JV team last year from summer league to regular league season.
Your girls played on jv last year had a tough coaching situation? (That quote didnt make sense at all.) Didn't your JV went undefeated in league last year and won 3 jv tournaments? And this year they went undefeated in league and won like 4 or 5 tournaments again. Most of the parents at my kid's school wished your JV coach is coaching at our school. Your JV coach is well respected in the league by parents, players, coaches and referees. Your JV coach is a winner in every way and everyone on the team play and also didn't run up the scores up. It sounded like another person tied to SL trying to cause trouble.
calling out high school kids is a no-no. These are not college kids or pros. You can talk about the strenghts and weaknessness of a program but when you start naming and blaming individuals it crosses the line. For the most part I love the blog and hope it continues next year. It is overdue that girls volleyball got some recognition. In my opinion it is the most exciting of all girls sports.
The negative stuff about St. Lucy's definitely got out of hand on the blog-but SL should partly take it as a compliment because teams were tired of losing to y'all so often. Please be careful St. Lucy's parents-there are many good schools out there and many student-athletes at even the lowest performing public schools who have rigorous AP and honors classes and will continue their education in college. Everyone should be proud of their schools athletically and academically, but let's be careful not to bring others down in the process.
Good luck to both Ayala and Bonita.
I agree about the negative comments being made. We would all feel badly if it were our kid. The Regents had a tough year and hopefully next year will be better for them. The girls who played JV last year had a tough coaching situation then too so it really has been 2 tough years. Great job on hanging in there girls! Stay positive!
Finally something positive about our Regents. I am just glad this season is over and the girls can move on with their academics. Just remember all you NEGATIVE bloggers, our kids are here for academic purposes. Yes my kid made it to the volleyball team and I'm very proud of her. To keep up with all the practices and all the homework and still keep a GPA of 3.5 and above. Yes we paid thousands of dollars for our kids to play club, but you know what, it kept her off the streets from hanging out with the wrong crowd and doing drugs. That to me my friend is worth all the money in the world. No, I don't plan to see my daughter playing in college, but I know for a fact that she's made plans on which college will attend and what she wants to be. So stop with the critism and move on with your life, we all did. Good Luck to Ayala.
Bonita is going to take over their gym?? Wow, I hope we behave at a christian school. Please be kind to their fans even if they throw the Bible at us. And please be respectful and help pick up any trash before you leave the gym. Show what kind of fans and parents we really are from Bonita.
I am deeply saddened by some of the posts by the bloggers on this website. I'm disappointed by the inconsiderate and unthoughtful posting by those who are only brave behind anonymous nicknames. If you are a parent criticizing a young 16-17 year old on a public forum, that is truly unfortunate. Just think how your daughter will feel in that kind of situation. This young student-athlete works hard, and is a competitive athlete who, like all of us, has life lessons to be learned.
Please be careful on how and what you post on this public forum. Many of the posts are positive criticisms, but when you border on personal, non productive, and negative criticism, you may want to consider the effects it may have on such young athletes. All of these athletes are young, high school athletes. Please remember that they play this sport because they love it, they are not professional. Please keep volleyball fun for everyone involved.
For the great middle blocker, keep working hard. You are a tough competitor, and I see a great fire in your nature. Harness that energy, and you will definitely be one of the best. I look forward to another club battle with you! (MSP...)
If everyone who still needs to vent about St. Lucy's and attack kids, would go to VC tomorrow night and support Bonita- Bonita could win the match. Village gets rattled when there's alot of noise. (not their club players, but the supporting cast gets very nervous)Bonita goes in and takes over the gym like they own it-they can definitely win.
To the blogger who said the following " How can a sister fire someone, is that even logical in the Bible." Congatulations, that is the stupidest comment ever made in cyberspace. Please post your address so we can send you a medal.
Dark hair.
Which S/L middle. The blonde girl or the dark hair girl?
Bottom line is that the middle for SL is slow and defintely has a bad attitude. Not too many players out there even want to play on the same club team with her because of her attitude.
why people are still venting about SL game? maybe the interim coach can't make player adjustments after witnessing the brutality of what the parents did to the ex coach. This is sad indeed for any coach and players who wanted to be coach.
good luck to whoever have to bench the SL middle next year but maybe winning is not a priority for SL
The SL coach was not Brutal. He was brutally honest and some of the princesses couldn't take that he sat them out and played more talented and hungry underclassmen over them.
I agree on the post on the SL middle. She is way to slow and has a HORRIBLE attitude and work ethic. It is most unfortunate because with her height, if she worked hard and changed her attitude, she could be a div.1 prospect. At this point, she would be lucky to go div.3.
CDM is a great team, however that was the worse match of SL's season. Take away CDM's great hits and outstanding serves, SL's killed themselves on sloppy team play and no player adjustments to try to get some blocks up front. They had no chance of winning the match, however it would have been nice to see more respectable scores.
Webb is going win
All Academic Team!
Which players from our region will get All -Cif Teams honors? and All Academic Team honors? List your nominations vball fans.
Ayala: Boyd
Bonita: Donaldson
Diamond bar: Brown
Glendora: Bader
Los Altos: right side hitter?
San Dimas:the middle blocker?
St Lucy: Berger
Walnut: Cole
Pomona Catholic or Western Christian all academic team?
Nice to see Bonita and Ayala in the Semi's. As far as all-academic team-Ganesha is tops! Look for a story on CNN after Thanksgiving about how last year Ganesha had more students accepted into the IVY league than any other school in the area (2nd place-Webb). Many of the top students in the school are on the VB team!
Bonita's season ends on tuesday night.
St Lucy's season is over. One final word. Allison Schuman is one class act. Getting the worst of all possible treatment this year and as undeserved as it gets, she handled the whole thing with class and courage and played her game
better than ever. Doing what was asked on any level and doing it with her undaunted enthusiasm.
The year was filled with all kinds of disappointment and drama but Allison rose above it all and my kudos to her family for the handling of it with integrity and dignity. May she shine next year and reap all the kudos that are her due.
Yeah, I agree. But South Hills did not advance either.
Someone is day dreaming?.. Cif championship will never come with the starting middle that st lucy have...when the middle blocker is the most important element that set the tone for defense...when middle blocker can't block then the backrow player will have a tough time passing, and when the passing is not there then how can they attack...South Hills's middle is ten times better...they will be the team to beat next year...good luck to whoever is coaching at SL next year it will be another tough year...yea SL libero should be mvp what is her name the blonde hair girl...average vball fan look for big hits but passing is equally important...can someone also elaborate on how the ex SL coach was brutal? Wow, how can a Sister fire someone, is that even logical in the Bible? So, the athletic director did not see the brutality from the ex coach only the Sister did? so the Sister is practicing with the team and witnessing the brutality?
St. Lucy's did not fall apart. Corona Del Mas was just a bigger and better team. The Regents were overplayed. There was no one person to blame. Yes, Berger did an amazing job, and so did Remy. How could you say that Remy was out of control? She and McCaughey have gone above and beyond the role of captains. They've taken the girls under their wings and inpired passion on the court. Corona Del Mar had powerful serves and powerful hits. The Regents did the best they can to get the balls up. The setters were not horrible. They made do with the passes that they got.
Let's all remember what the girls had to go through all season long. Stop criticizing them and praise them, instead, for what they've accomplished. They made it this far. They've had to work extra hard and still keep their grades up. They've kept their class and their love for volleyball. They all deserve to be MVPs.
The mistake wasn't in firing Art, it was hiring him in the first place. He got fired because he was brutal to the girls. And it wasn't the A.D. that fired him, it was Sister Monica. This is what should happen to brutal coaches.
It is my opinion that Holly Berger should be named MVP not Remy. Alot of consistency alot of hard work alot of talent vs alot of ego but not much else evident by last night on the court and off
St. Lucy's lost in three. I don't think the middle issue was the factor. St. Lucy's just completely fell apart. Their setters were horrible, the hitting fair. Remy had the worst match of her life (never mind stats). She was completely out of control (literally). Berger played well. She had a rough go in the middle but played great in the beginning and end. Smole and McCaughy played strong under the circumstances. Smole came out strong, subbed out later in the game and never given the chance to return, big mistake. St. Lucy's was not short on talent. Their biggest grievance this season is that they short changed the talent they had.
I hope the Atletic Director takes this season as a learned lesson. I expect to see a qualified coach next year (one who knows and can see talent and can insprie as well as lead the team)and a CIF win will take its place on the wall for 2008.
Did st lucy win? Which middle was better corona del mar or at Lucy? We need updates! Ayala won no drama there boring!
Does anyone know if South Hills won or lost tonight?
Bonita dominates in 3 tonite over Palm Desert.
DOMINATES!
yes St Lucy's swan song is at seven tonight
Bonita and Ayala have the best shot of the locals to advance. I can't see the others being victorious. SHills may have a long shot. They have been surprising lately.
annie kim registered 30 kills/about 70 attacks in thrilling win over los altos in 5 games
did SL win All academic team for vball? which high school volleyball team had the highest gpa this year?
Enough said about the past. I hope they can pull out a win tomorrow regardless of who is leading.
Regarding the note about the SL middle, she is 6'2" and to infer that any players were bought only goes to show your ignorance about the school. Academics are first and foremost. Athletic ability is not considered in any part of the admissions process. Please do not demean a fine institution by implying otherwise.
6'4 middles from corona del mar vs a slow junior middle that is only 5'11 from st lucy ...is over ...money cant buy height
anyone got scouting report on corona del mar?
the dance thing is all well and good providing you didnt come with an donkeys rear
the truth of art isnt in this one season
its in the club season before where AGAIN he was let go sent packing hasta lavista
thanks but no thanks
and three months later same thing
different parents different administration different players
coincidence
look at his job record
Lucys was right to let him go
wrong to make a "date" with him as you say
they were smart and used damage control
you dont know
unless
you were there
his
club season resulted in shambles
same was in progress with the schools program
The fact is that nobody knows how St. Lucy's would have done with Art, because he wasn't given the chance. His firing had nothing to do with the team's record at the time or his past performance as a coach. If he was truly that bad, then it is still the school's mistake for hiring him in the first place. Either way you look at it, the school is wrong and caused a lot of bad publicity for itself. I am not waving the flag for Art. My point is that you dance with the date that you brought. You do not pull the rug out from someone midway through a season. Their losses early-on were pre-season when the team was still coming together. With the exception of Remmy & Berger, their talent is very young. Hard to say if any other coach could have done better.
Yes, they have won games without Art. They have also lost games to lesser teams. They should have won Corona in 3, however there were no adjustments made for players that were not playing strong. Any coach would have recognized that much.
are you kidding me
the firing of Art Garcia was "the worst" thing that happened to the team
ask the team
look at the girls
they are winning
but more importantly they
wanted him gone
not two players
look at the stats
losing more games then I have evr seen in four years at the school
his leaving brought about changes that enabled the team to win
Corona Del Mar puts an end to all the St. Lucy's whining, complaining and over hyped comments.
Sorry, but the firing of the SL coach was the BEST thing that could have happened to the team. It had nothing to do with politics, parental influence, or playing time. Look at his record at each of the schools he has coached at, look at the clubs he has coached at, and then look at the number of teams that have disintegrated before the season's end. St. Lucy's administration did the right thing and did it for the right reason-it was in the best interest of the girls-volleyball aside!!! Let it go. He's gone. I would venture to say that it is not a St. Lucy's parent or player who is saying that the girls got to CIF without a coach. Coach Pam is doing a great job and everyone supports her and appreciates her stepping in. She will tell you she's not a volleyball expert, but she is a coach in every sense of the word. Go Regents. and yes, you will have to play all stops out to get past Corona del Mar and this would have been the case, with or without ANY COACH.
The firing of the St Lucy's coach was the worse thing that happened to the team and I felt a poor decision on the part of the school and the Athletic Department. When the school listens to the discontent hearts of 2 players who were benched for not playing to their potential, it sends the wrong message to all who participate in sports. Although the interim coach is a great person, and I take nothing away from her, she will be the first to admit she knows nothing about volleyball and is there more for inspiration then true coaching. The success of the team this season has been due to the leadership of the team captains, previous coaching and the shear athletic ability of the players. They have made the most of their situation, but that does not mean that they are better for losing their coach. The younger players have lost out on a whole year of development and unbiased opinions on their performances. The truth is that some of the players know their positions are secured due to political pressures of friendships of those that are actually doing the line-ups and not based on their performances. This is where a true coach makes all the difference. They have had a good season so far, but, IMHO, they could have been better. They will need all cyclinders firing if they have any chance of beating CDM.
Gman,
Are you a St. Lucy supporter or just one of those parents that like to get the coach fired? If they had lack of coaching in the last match then why did your school fired the last coach? If the current coach is not coaching, then who is? Give some respect to the current coach and she COACHED (not hope for) them to victory.
Congrat to our Walnut Head coach for a fine season. We played hard against St Joseph but they are just a little taller and stronger.
Finally! I thought no one cared anymore!!! congratulations to South Hills, St. Lucy's, Ayala, Bonita, and Upland!!! Just moving around the local freeways here! Could SL and SHHS be headed for a showdown?? Nah. The Regents would have to get past an always tough Corona del Mar first!! Nice job by the Huskies!! They finally beat Uni! I predicted that Ayala and Norco would meet up and this has the makings of a pretty gritty matchup. Good luck this weekend to all!!!
St. Lucy's pulled out a game 5 victory tonight against Corona thanks in large part to giant kills by Amanda Remmy and a tremendous defensive effort by senior libero Holly Berger who really stepped up in a major way. St. Lucy's setters continue to struggle, almost costing them the match. Middles didn't come to life until the fourth game. The lack of coaching is really starting to rear it's head as they begin to face tougher opponents. Hopefully they can pull it together for Round 3 as they will not survive if they continue to play like they did tonight.
Thursday results
St Lucy's wins in 5
Bonita wins in 4
Ontario Christian wins in 4
Laguna Hills over Ayala
St. Lucy's over Corona
although any school named after a beer is ok by me
all the other predictions I agree with 100%

2nd rnd predictions?
Gladstone at #4? The Montview league sure looked tough in the playoffs.
Bonita will end the Saints season tonight.
Corona-St. Lucy's should be a great match. St. Lucy's seems to be a bit inconsistent in big games. If they keep their cool I think they prevail over Corona. But I might be over confident of the valley teams.
There will probably be quite of few valley teams left in DIII after Thursday. But there may not be too many left in DII.
Corona vs St Lucy's
cooments predictions
La Puente's season is finished at 7:55pm Thursday night.
anonymous,
I agree, lets hear it for the setters. Los Altos has a pair that run the 2 setter set and their hitters have 884 kills.
On Maxpreps Carrillo has 401 assists and DeLavara ha 337. That is a lot of assists for setters that play 50% of the time.
This is one of the better tandums that I have seen in many years,
Can we give a Little Love to Covina? The Girls have won 8 in a row. The Colts are on Fire!
University finished third in their league behind Beckman. I think SH has a chance. They lost to them last year though. I dont know much about Corona other than they play in that tough league with Norco and Santiago.
Ayala. I like to include them only because they are part of the Sierra League. Ayala vs. Laguna Hills. University will be a tough match up for SHHS. Their big player is Bojana Todorovic (close). Plays for Laguna Beach VB Club. She alone could do some serious damage to the young Huskies. Anyone know anything about Corona High School? Go Bo High!!!!
South Hils @ University
Walnut @ St. Josephs
Corona @ St. Lucy's
Gabrielino @ Los Altos
Bonita @ San Dimas- smudge pot volleyball style
Covina @ Valley Christian
La Quinta @ Charter Oak
am I forgetting anyone?
The next round is up and the home games have been set.
I agree-setters deserve more respect. Gabrielino's freshman setter is awesome-she will be performing at a high level for years to come. Good luck to the Eagles against Los Altos-hopefully Annie Kim will still be available to sign autographs after their win.
Division III-A
Village Christian vs. Palm Spings
Western vs. San Gabriel
San Dimas vs. Bonita
Brentwood vs. Savanna
Gabrielino vs. Los Altos
Covina vs. Valley Christian
Charter Oak vs. La Quinta
As of 10 minutes ago they still had not flipped the coins!!!
La Puente won their first CIF game EVER!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rowland-Estancia???
I predict Bonita wins in a blowout. There will be a lot of hype but Bonita wins in 3 easily. Book it.
I haven't confirmed, but heard Bonita won, which sets up a huge second round match on Thursday, San Dimas vs. Bonita ... again.
I wish some of you reporters would start giving some of this Volley Ball credit to the great setters, who make those hitters look so good. Lets talk a bit more about the ones who "Set it up!" for that great Kill. Their decisions in the game can make it or break it.
I see the future!
Division II-AA

whoever this anonymous person got 6 or 7 outcomes wrong! What are his/her/it predictions for thursday?
Beckman beat Glendora in 3 games.
Someone got to put covina in the top ten
Gladstone, Glendora, Amat, Diamond Bar are already out of 1st round, our area schools are not doing so well.
We all hope there will be high security on Thursday game between Bonita and San Dimas match. Please no more choking kids in the stand.
All i came to say is........ XD I GOT ANNIE'S AUTOGRAPH!!!! WOOSH SELLING IT ON EBAY!!!! J/K J/K i have completed my mission of getting her autograph she is one kool chick ^_^ and GO Gabrielino!!! its okay if they won us! im a great loser ^.^
glendora win???
did bonita win? and did glendora win? and covina is underrated???
Bonita defeated Maranatha in a tough four games.
South Hills d. Diamond Bar 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 27-25.
Sounds like the local teams are doing great. Keep it up ladies.
Covina won in 5 over La Mirada
@ Anonymous,
He did you find the scores for the South Hills/DB game? I can find them anywhere. I know that South HIlls won....thats it
Gabrielino beats Ganesha in 3. I hope we dont lose our Ganesha bloggers. I like their fire.....most of time.
Cnarter Oak won also in 3 I believe
Rumor is South Hills beat Diamond Bar in 4
Los Altos beat Bell Gardens in 3.
Los Altos beat Bell Gardens in 3.
Walnut d. Santiago 25-23, 25-23, 29-27.
Other results?
Go Ontario Christian!
I'm pretty sure Beckman had their full squad at Ganesha's Tri-City tourney, but Walnut was on fire the entire tournament. Walnut went undefeated and beat a fired up St. Lucy's team in the championship. Ganesha almost beat Beckman, but lost in five-we played great and surprised them we think (we won the first game 25-12). Beckman seemed a little hit and miss, but they've beaten some quality teams this year so Glendora will have their hands full.
Meow
Walnut beat Beckman in 3 at a tournament early in the year but who knows if they had their full squad. Glendora like most teams in the area can be great one game and bad the next. If Glendora plays tough they have a legit shot to win.
Not a lot of creativity in this years CIF pairings. Just going off memory from last year there are a few of the same first round matchups. South Hills-Diamond Bar(South Hills won) Santiago-Walnut(Walnut Won)
Beckman has the Women's Olympic Volleyball Coach's (Jenny Lang Ping)daughter playing on that team. She played on the top TCA 18's team last year as a 14 year old. Along with a supporting cast of ballers, I'm not sure that Glendora will be victorious. This is a young team so you never know but, all of that orange county club training makes for a tough team.
The Diamond Bar/South Hills game can go either way. It depends on who wants it more. On any given day either team could take it. That'll be a fun game to watch.
Bonita and Maranatha will be tough if Bonita is done playing sloppy ball and can overcome their internal battles they could take it. Morgan is a smart coach with good players. Maranatha is one of those teams that could beat anyone when they are playing well. They've placed in the top three at all three tourny's this year and come from a tough league. If they get the ball to their hitters they may be unstoppable.
Dude, can't you just call the St. Lucy's front office or the CIFSS office and confirm the game time and location yourself?
Please someone confirm todays schedule. According to the Tribune St Lucy's will be hosting Cathedral for a wild card match today at 200PM

Let's post scores as soon as we get them tonight. We'll continue to update this thread with second and third round schedules the rest of the week.
Good luck to all the area teams tonight. Lets represent!
Covina definitely deserves credit. They've turned some good athletes into great vb players in a short time. The VVL hopes they go far in CIF.
Beckman in three. Too much OC firepower.
I hope your predictions are right. You have the SGV teams doing well. The Santiago-Walnut match is a repeat of last years first round. Walnut won 15-13 in game 5. Santiago is much better this year and defeated Walnut in a tournament. For Walnut to win it will be an upset. L.A. and Bonita have the best chance to go far in CIF because their division is a little down this year.
The Glendora-Beckman match should be a battle too. I think S. Hills beats DB in a close one. Battle of the the premier middles in the valley.
I see the future!
Division II-AA
Glendora at Beckman, - GLENDORA
Corona Santiago at Walnut, WALNUT
Bishop Amat at Norco - NORCO
Diamond Bar at South Hills - TUFF DIAMOND BAR
Rowland at Estancia - Estancia
Division III-A
Palm Springs at Arroyo - Palm Springs
South El Monte at San Dimas - SAN DIMAS
Maranatha at Bonita - BONITA
Bell Gardens at Los Altos - LOS ALTOS
Covina at La Mirada - LA MIRADA
Charter Oak at Patriot - CHARTER OAK
Division IV-AA
Bishop Diego at La Puente HOPEFULLY LA PUENTE
Sierra Vista at Viewpoint - unsure
Aquinas at Gladstone - GLADSTONE
my II-AA bracket has Walnut going till the quarter finals. Ayala will have a dogfight with Norco (sorry). Corona del Mar will have their way with SL in the quarters and if SH can get out of the 1st round, they'll battle University again. The semis could be interesting. Laguna and Ayala? SL took Laguna to 5 in the semis last year. Bottom half of the bracket has to include CdelM and ??? Finals: Laguna and Corona del Mar, again.
Is any one giving Covina a chance to do well in CIF? They have won six a in a row heading into the playoffs. Despite there record, they are leading the VVL in just about all the stats. I hope they do well.
