Steve Ramirez and Fred J. Robledo going head-to-head throughout the season.

Records:
Robledo: Last week (17-2); Season (150-48)
Ramirez: Last week (16-3); Season (150-48)

Notes: Finally, I tied Ramirez. With one week left in the season, it's come down to Northview-Baldwin Park, the only game we picked differently this week. Steve will explain why he chose to go with Baldwin Park and not his alma mater, and I'll tell you why I'm picking Northview in an upset in this week's two-minute drill. The lunch bet includes the playoffs, but the regular season bragging rights is on the line. Last week, Steve and I both didn't believe La Puente could beat Duarte, and it happened. Congrats to the Warriors, that was a gutty performance in taking the Montview League title. I also picked Wilson to beat Los Altos and Rowland to beat Walnut, grabbing two wins on Steve who went the other way. But Steve got one back by picking Aquinas over Western Christian, and after seeing how easy Aquinas won, I'm wondering why I gave Steve that freebie. Get ready for a great final week, lots of games on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday game of the week: Charter Oak at Diamond Ranch
Friday game of the week: Baldwin Park vs. Northview at Covina District

Thursday's games
Charter Oak vs. Diamond Ranch, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Charter Oak); Ramirez (Charter Oak)
Bonita at Los Altos, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Los Altos); Ramirez (Los Altos)
Covina at San Dimas, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (San Dimas); Ramirez (San Dimas)
Chino Hills at Damien, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Chino Hills): Ramirez (Chino Hills)
Walnut at West Covina, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (West Covina); Ramirez (West Covina)
Glendora at Diamond Bar, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Glendora); Ramirez (Glendora)
South Hills at Nogales, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (South HIlls); Ramirez (South Hills)
Wilson at Rowland, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Wilson); Ramirez (Wilson)
Sierra Vista at Duarte, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Duarte); Ramirez (Duarte)

Friday's games
Baldwin Park vs. Northview at Covina District Field, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Northview); Ramirez (Baldwin Park)
El Monte at South El Monte, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (SElMonte); Ramirez (SElMonte)
Loyola at Bishop Amat, 7:30 p.m. -- Robledo (Loyola); Ramirez (Loyola)
Mountain View at Rosemead, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Rosemead); Ramirez (Rosemead)
Gabrielino at Arroyo, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Arroyo); Ramirez (Arroyo)
Azusa at La Puente, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (La Puente); Ramirez (La Puente)
Workman at Bassett, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Workman); Ramirez (Workman)
Arrowhead Christian vs. Western Christian at Arcadia, 7 p.m. -- Robledo (Western Christian); Ramirez (Western Christian)

Final Thoughts: Once again, the Miramonte League heads into the final week with all five teams in the playoff hunt. It's a headache going over all the scenarios, but Wilson's alive because if Charter Oak beats Diamond Ranch and Bonita beats Los Altos, there will be a three-way tie for third between Los Altos, Diamond Ranch and Wilson, with a coin flip deciding the final entry into the Southwest playoffs. For Diamond Ranch to get in, they need a win and a Bonita win over Los Altos. For Los Altos to get in, they simply need a win over Bonita. Charter Oak and Bonita are in regardless of what happens. In the Valle Vista, Baldwin Park has clinched a share of the league title, but If Northview wins on Friday and San Dimas beats Covina, there will be a three-way tie for first, meaning coin flips will decide the order of finish into the playoffs.

DB Realist, Nice post.....I hope he does something for the underclassmen too! Those kids laid it out there this year, the JV winning 5 games this fall is the most wins ANY level has had in awhile, last year they went W4-L6.....we just gotta keep backing our kids, make sure they are seeing the big picture......

You going to any games tomorrow? I'm going to the Servite-San Clemente game, i have to work in Norwalk so my choices were limited.....

Whatever pal, and The Schwab,

Did not happen and the Amat seniors got that much desterve win and did not end up in the basement in Serra. Verti will be back. No Major players transfer out of Amat and Amat sees the playoffs next year. You guys are real sad to think we would lose to Loyola. Amat owns Loyola.

DBRealist said:

Hey, I was happy with the way the varsity played this year after what I've witnessed the past three. We actually had an offense that moved the ball. I know that Coach Martin was shocked that he inherited 3rd year varsity players (defensive backes) that didn't know what a zone or cover two defense was. He really had to start from scratch. I personally think that not giving him at least two more years to try to build his program would be idiotic. My point was that anyone who expected a return to the 90's is completely misquided. My son plays JV's as well and he'll continue to play here. No running off for greener "fields". He is a Brahma! Martinn can really help his own cause by including his JV and freshmen teams in the honors banquets. I was shocked that DB does no banquet for any non varsity sports. Makes the younger guys, who will be your program, feel really important.

Amat will lose to Loyola and finsh 2-8 on the season. Verti will probably resign because there is too much pressure. McCutcheon will hopefully take over and hire the right staff. Amat will also send at least one player this year on a D1 scholarship!

just for the record,...DB Realist is not me posting under some other name, though i hear what he's saying...

I wish we could drop in just one sport though, in Basketball we are looking good with our big men returning and a JV team who kicked everyones butts last yr....in Baseball we WILL ALWAYS be a factor...but we in a bit of a drought with football, no doubt....

I'm sure they will evaluate what worked and what needs a fixin' very thoroughly before spring, while they have these kids hit the weights till then,.....the team has improved from last yr, and there is no way they are firing Martin this yr....thats a bad rumor,......

we got knocked off our top seeded perch pretty quickly just a few yrs ago...but WHAT HAS ROCHE won with Chino Hills since he bailed? NO CIF Championships! What has DR won in their glorious 10 yrs....no CIF championship in fb, thats fer damn sure...

Its gonna be tough,..its still be gonna be ugly once in awhile, but i believe they are working the kinks with this first year program....i feel your pain too though with some of things you mentioned in your post....this years JV team was 4-1 going into league, beating Temescal Cyn and Troy.....today Glendora had us 27-13 with 5 min left in the 4th qtr, but it felt like they were up by way more (and eventually did)...this Sierra League aint no joke....WE KICKED ITS ASS for a long time,...now way we gotta make the climb back--with integrity, discipline, and heart...STAND TALL AND HOLD YOUR HEADS HIGH BRAHMAS, your on the way back!!!!!!!!

Totally agree with the asian population statement. Prime example of that fact is Diamond Bar H.S. At one time in the 90's they had 9 D-1 propects on one team. They had a small dynasty. Look at them now, the program has faltered and will never get back to where it once was. Hell, they have a great band and badmitton team.....

AMAT 73 said:

Very interesting reading all the blogs concerning the transfers from AMAT to LA. It went from the greatest coup in high school football to now the downfall of the program in the short span of 9 weeks.

DBRealist said:

Hey, I'm a realist. Diamond Bar needs to find a new league. I know CIF keeps us in division 2 based on enrollment, but come on! We're now pushing 60% asian enrollment. Since Diamond R opened and started the recruiting factory, DB has been doomed. Now people are talking about firing the coach after one season. Vince Lombarte could rise from the grave and he would go 2-8. It's not going to get better. After watching the JV team play in the Sierra league and look at the physical size difference in the players, the number of players and weak coaching staffs for our lower levels (they try hard, but two coaches on the sideline for two JV games in a row?). Wake up people, it is not the '90s. We do have the best band, badmiton and tennis teams around. Go Brahmas!

I guess the Bishop Amat connection of Seanez,Maciel,Tillis,Tamayo,Ortiz and McBride did not pan out well for you, Los Altos. Thats what you get when you rob Peter to pay Paul, stick to your own next time and promote from within your own core of players. Going to the outside for help got you nowhere and much worse had your home grown talent sitting for these guys. Nice Job Coach. Better luck next year

Los Altos 14

DSM22s,

Your living in a dream world. Los Altos is loaded with a bunch of average football players, a real weak quarterback, basicly no running game. That Wilson team doesn't have a very strong defense. And a weak offensive line. You are going to be way over matched against Bonita. Lose by 21 points. See ya next year

sgv 1,

You would have a two way tie because both teams would be 4-1. NV gets the VVL #1 seed because of the head to head, but they are co champs because they have the SAME RECORD. They will both get league championship patches on their jackets. If NV beats BP that doesn't make their loss to SD (whom BP beat) dissapear. I do agree with you however that it is likely a moot point since I believe BP and SD will win.

For example, in baseball NV and SD finished tied for first but NV won 2 out of 3 head to head. I still saw several SD guys wearing (rightly) 2007 league championship shirts around town.

I'm just stating the soon-to-be facts of football programs on the Pomona freeway. Thanks to the buddhist temple in Hac. Hts. we have become the adopted holy land for the newly landed asian population, who now dominate the local HS populations. More asian residents = less white, and black players to be had by local schools, and their sports programs.

I've lived in the community for 40 years, and have seen it change before my eyes, and it's not finished yet...

DSM22s said:

LA will get back in it and go far in CIF...they have no earned physical wins on the field during league but cmon, there los altos, they will get fired up somehow, expecially after losing the rival game... there coming up in 2 days against bonita. They need this game more then the past games. it will be a challenge but they have kids stepping up their game and it will show against bonita.

How do you have a 2 way tie? NV won't get it done anyway. BP is the greatest program in the SGV. I would like to see them stop playing weak pre-season teams and start playing Glendora and Damien and Charter Oak and Chino hills or Ayala etc. Then we can stop the debate.

Those years for the amat players are their High School graduating years, so the 2002 players are seniors in college. I know you don't want to debate any list that is older than that(or any list that includes NFL players) Kansas is one of only 3 undefeated DI teams in the country and Rodriguez starts at Right Tackle so he is a big part of that. That's pretty big-time if you ask me.

If you want to downplay any kid playing college athletics you are barking up the wrong tree on this blog. Any blogger here that knows anything knows how small a window a playing career is so every year, anywhere, is special. If you never played, or never played after high school - you might not realize that.
If "... wouldn't even admit you were playing on a football scholarship at those schools...." that probably means that you couldn't.

And yes "...Free school is free school..." - whether you are a football fan or not!

Tartan Killer,

You're killing me! Damien to the Semi's!!!??? Now your right about our division being tough, and I said earlier that winning our league may only mean a home game against the likes of Santiago (at large, but very large) or #3 from the Southeastern league (a team rated on calpreps right about where we are). If we are fortunate, we would get the #3 from the Citrus Belt or Baseline, both of which are at about the same level as the Sierra. Still, a tough challange. You also said are non-league was a joke?!?! Ha, look at CIF rankings...Etiwanda @ #10 may be Baseline league champ & we dumped them. El Do is by far top dog in the Southwest not to mention #6 in the entire OC and #24 in LA Times poll. West Ranch had to battle in the huge league with Hart, Canyon (only lost 10-3), Valencia...and we easily handled them. CO...abviously a tough hombre. Covina's the only "softie" you can point to and they have a winning record and with a win could still make CIF. Dude, give me a team in the SGV with a tougher pre-season schedule(that actually had a winning record). I also said that if the Tarts can win a first round game, it would clearly set this Tartan team apart from other recent years...2 wins and we'd clearly be the best in the SGV (unless a local runs the table in the southwest including beating El Do...I'd have to put them side-by-side), because that would mean beating one of those top 4 teams in the division (ouch). It's a fun time of year and we should all get up for this last week and then support our area teams in CIF. Only makes us all stronger.

Notes on Amat

B&G

I am not the one who is advocating a new head coach. I stated so earlier in this blog. However, as I mentioned before, there has to be a change in the direction that this program is heading (for the short run) and two of my firm beliefs, to first, recruit, and second, to play some of the local schools. Interestingly enough, it appears as if the second part of my thought process is in fact, coming to fruition (according to Fred).

I believe that this is a step in the right direction, but they have to play more than just one game and one team. BTW, the idea that a coach needs to have 5 years to turn a program around is a College football philosophy, not a high school one. Teams can become better in two years or less. Just look at what is going on at Alemany right now.

You know, just for sh_ts and giggles, I went onto the CALPREPS web site for 2001 and looked at the Amat football teams record for that year. Do you know that they went 9-2 ? In fact, they beat Alemany 62 to 7 that year. That wasn’t all that long ago you know.

For what it’s worth, playing against ND, Crespi, Orange Lutheran, Hart, (etc) and getting slaughtered is no way to ”test yourself.” The reality is that if we had played more of a lighter schedule, (and won) then, we could have “possibly” made the playoffs this year and last, even if we had gone 1-2 in league. Just look at what happened the previous year. We beat St Paul and Charmanade and St Francis, and they all went to the playoffs while we stayed home.

Fred mentioned week 5 for next year. Anyone know the rest of the schedule for next year? Are we even in the Serra League next year?

...and I would say that while amat has fallen, it was only the year before last that they beat Mater Dei and the CIF Champion Loyola Cubs, while sweeping Charter Oak, Glendora, and Damien by a combined score of (come on..you know I have to) 96-16. That is a litlle more than "just competing" and it is not so distant a memory that rules out a return.

The word around the Heights is that you ran up the score on the freshman team. Was that a recruiting tactic because it sure was classless? Looks like you paid for it on Friday night, I heard that the Wilson varsity kids were real pumped up after they watched the freshman game. Besides, the refs do call the bad plays when they throw their little yellow flags..I'm sure, who ever your team is, has never commited a questionable hit..maybe they should stick to flag football..if they are as innocent as you think they are..all season with out a flag

You guys need to take a close look at the play-off picture. There is a good chance Glendora will get bounced in the first round, while Damien may end up in the semi's Take a look at seeding and competion played. Glendora's pre-season was a joke. Even though we all know Morrison will be gone after this season (according to tons of alumni at the 5th quarter social) he will still get the Spartans further than the coach Paster-ella will. Yes, Damien will beat Chino Hills by 10 and Glendora will manage to let Diamond Bar hang around. Tartans, be ready to have your pride stepped on a bit come thursday, I have a feeling you guys are in for a rude awakening. And as for my son not being involved in the program at Damien anymore, it was my choice not his. I didn't want him to learn under Morrison. If I were coaching we would be 9-1. Hey, guess I can apply after the season. SEE YA MIGHTY MO!!!

Note: BP's Defense is good, but SD has the best defense in the league. Check the scores. Covina will be tough for the Saints this week but they will have to step up.

Easy Glendora fans, not saying SD's D is better than yours, just better than anyone in the Valley Vista right now.

I have seen several D.R. games. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing C.O. play however. I think that the Panthers are a very good team but at times they are their own worst enemy..Too many penalties..They need to minimize this problem and should have a good game..The QB is into his SR. year and I'm sure he does not want to end it with a loss.Look to him to pull this one out. I'm sure that they are well aware what this game means...I'm also sick of hearing about cheating..let's put this behind and focus on the future...Good luck to all the SGV teams!!!!! i've seen it from 2 teams that come to mind, one is bp and the other nv. nv players go to other games and are so loud, obnoxious and disrespectful...and on one occasion, bp players as a visitor, were yelling nonsense to the opposing team and their parents and fans...

coaches can't do it all, it's up to the parents also.

all these vvl teams need to remember that there is no "I" in TEAM...too many players wanting to be the "STAR" nowadays.

one or two great players, doesn't make a TEAM! i think that is what is wrong with vvl teams this year.

Since you guys now think you’re the best team, strongest team and have the best defense, in the valley maybe you should crunch the numbers in the VVL stats.

I know math in BP might not be your forte, but here's a little statically data for you to chew on. It appears that BP isn’t the best defense or offense and NV is right on your butt on D and the same on O in league.

Here are the facts for your defenses in the VVL
League PA
28 - SD
44 – BP
61 – NV
98 – CV
Non- League PA
54 – SD
61 – BP
97 – NV
159 – CV
Overall
82- SD
105 – BP
159 – NV
257 – CV
If I were you, you better start worrying about NV because there points allowed aren’t much different than yours. Now let’s take a look at offense boys!
League PF
134-SD
108- BP
108- NV
110- CV
Non-League PF
170 –SD
93 –BP
133- NV
132 –CV
Overall
304- SD
201 –BP
241 – NV
242 –CV

MAYBE YOU MORONS SHOULD LISTEN TO BRAVETOWN! AT LEAST HE REPRESENTS YOUR TOWN WELL. NO WONDER YOU GUYS GET NO RESPECT... EVEN IF YOU ARE TO WIN THIS WEEK...

Mea culpa.

For Inland Empire Football Fan, I have seen both the D R and C O teams this season, C O twice.

I think C O has the better pass rush and QB as well as the primary ball carrier although D R has better LB's and a more open-minded staff. Neither team, (I've seen C O twice this season), played as well as they could, (IMHO), when I saw them. Either has the talent to be a dominant team in the Section and it is frankly a tribute to teams like Los Altos and Bonita when they hang with them.

Although I know only that which I know.

I look at each SGV program as a reflection of our total community-at-large. For this I support several teams that vie for greater opportunities while competing within the forthcoming CIF trials.”

This is as nearly golden as this blog gets.

Interesting when you get right down to the bone, some schools boast, others are purely self centered, and others bark like a dog in a dark yard.

There are other schools that are rarely heard from and seem to want the on-field performances to stand on their own.

That this is in some small way a reflection on our communites at large seems pretty accurate to me.

It sounds as if you allowed the bluebirds to get under your skin. Don't fret my good friend, because no matter what you or I might have to offer as an opinion, there will surely be those that agree and disagree. That is what makes this website perfect as anyone can theorize or hypothesize the outcome of certain situations as they unfold under the big lights each Friday.

Did you ever stop and think that those that pound back toward your responses or offered opinions, do it because they need to control the final word in your exchange. Others might feel that your opinions are not valued or warranted by whom they personally represent. So, naturally in a line of defense they feel obligated to paragraph their feelings, like any parent or supporter might do.

I look at each SGV program as a reflection of our total community-at-large. For this I support several teams that vie for greater opportunities while competing within the forthcoming CIF trials.

My advice, if acceptable, is that we need to avoid the "small stuff" that only creates a division between neighbors, families, and friends. As the year draws toward an end, we need to support all the SGV teams that will begin their final phase of HS football, for 99% of our young men will never adorn a football uniform beyond the time before us.

As a parting note, I recognize whom you all are, and appreciate your commentaries and I encourage you to continue to represent and support your programs...for this should be, the best of their HS memories.

It has been stated many times here that there were many qualified applicants for the job but Mnsgr. just does not want to give up the money. How do you figure we can get that top level coach if the top man does not want to pay. Instead of knocking people for standing behind Verti because after all he is what we have, come up with your solution to this problem . If you think Daylon is the answer do you think all the people who are calling for Verti's head will wait for him to cut his teeth or expect a playoff berth in his first year.

It would appear by the next statement, "Crist completed 10-of-15 passes in the first half for 185 yards, but he connected on only 1-of-6 afterward" that Crist and possiby others in the srarting offense were on the sidelines. Can the same be said about the defensive squad?

As for the earlier comments by "B&G" about rebuilding, Notre Dame's JV squad was undefeated prior to the Amat game and their Freshman squad was 7-1. Loyola's lower level teams have also done well, losing to N.D. and Fresh to Chaminade by 2 points.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how reasonable is it to think this was a legitimate second half or did Amat get well on a 2nd/3rd team defense as well as benefit by N.D. running a 2nd team offense.

As far as all of the Verti and team bashing:

Some people really to need to have a reality check. It appears that old PREP WATCHER 22 or whatever his handle was has finally realized his posts was not going to get any time at QB and has finally been silenced

Dear Fred and Steve,

I had to go back and look over my SGV score-sheet since this weekend pick thing is serious stuff for me.

Well, not really serious, (I do a couple more HS pick sheets with friends; we have one each in the OC, the LB/So Bay area, and also the Whittier area. We don't mess around with sandwiches at Capri Deli like you guys and Aram either, we're talking martinis and pepper steak at Del Rae after the playoffs finish.

Well anyhow, your numbers, (150-48), concerned me since they didn't jibe with my totals of 148-48 so I had Price-Waterhouse go back over my figures and they found the differential was due to my apparent propensity for making jokes about some of the Western Christian games instead of picking a winner, (my apologies to the Fighting Lancers).

Hard to imagine me actually joking about something so serious as HS Football, but there it is.

We are actually so close, we might be the NL West here. I have decided that if I do manage to finish ahead of the two of you, I will treat myself to a nice cigar in the Del Rae piano bar after dinner. If I lose, I'll just have to save it for Christmas dinner.

Your Friend,

Don

JFR,

I've been reading most of what goes on here for a while. I seem to remember your posts being mostly reasonable and fair. Can't remember who your team is (DB?, DR?, CO?), but don't let the "over-the-top" posts of one or two Glendora faithfull get your panties in a bunch. I've always felt that the majority of the posts by "anonymous" (or some other moniker at times) that make some grandios boast about Glendora are all one person. The rest of us "faithful" aren't getting TOO myopic (I hope). Excited, yes. Knew we had a good team early on, sure. But there's a lot of good teams and players out there and winning even one CIF game in our division would be a real accomplishment. Does that mean I don't believe we could win one or two or even 3? Of course not. We'd have to play at a high level, but I think we could put it all together and make a run. The talent is there. But the competition realistically is going to be like facing CO's & Ayala's at worst, El Dorado's on average, and the top end of the division would beat El Do on most nights. So JFR, don't put your opinion of Tart fans/Dad's/whatever on all of us and just try to ignore those silly comments...I know I try to. Thanks.

Prep Watcher 22, JCAZ,

I think you two do not have patients enough to give Verti and Amat a chance to bring the football program back strong. I am a firm believer that he is going to turn this around by next year. Two years and you want him out, that is just flat out wrong, then to say we need to play the locals to bring us back some prestige is foolish. We will continue to play the top teams and test ourselves only then to get ready to go back to Notre Dame and Loyola and have Crespi at home next year. Diamond Ranch has us set up next year great. We have 20 seniors that will be gone and the Jr. and Sophmores will really be good next year, some are starting right now. I do agree with the recruiting part and who knows we may get a player or two to transfer into our program and blend with this years Junior crop and Amat will be back I back Verti and you all think I am crazy I know, but 2 years is not a fair shot at any leadership position, he still has 3 years more in my estimation. 5 years I give this coach, he will be at the midway point next year and that is the year we break thru. Be patient it is coming.

Can you imagine if the MIGHTY SD Saints don't make the playoffs? Wow, now that would be some egg on some past blogger's faces. And CO would still be champs if they lost to DR...just not "on the field" as DR would have been champs w/o the forfeits. Tartans are champs, but they could end up in a "tie" with Ayala. They would win the tiebreaker in that one as far as seeding. Still, nobody wants to "share" the title and a loss to DB, who has yet to win in league, would be embarrasing. This is a real trap game for them. BTW, Diamond Bar IS improved. They could be the "Ayala" story next year. Their pre-season was close to being 4-1 with good wins against some strong teams. Watch out Tartans.

Bravetown,

It depends on what happens in the Northview-Baldwin Park game. If Northview wins, then Covina would go by virtue of the head-to-head win; but if Baldwin Park beats Northview and Covina beats San Dimas, then Baldwin Park would be the undefeated champ with a three-way tie for second. Then a three-way flip would be necessary to break the tie, because under that scenario, Covina beat San Dimas; San Dimas beat Northview and Northview beat Covina.

IF BP wins and Covina wins

BP 5-0
SD 3-2
NV 3-2
CV 3-2

There would be a coin flip and the odd team out would stay home.

If NV wins and Covina wins

NV 4-1
BP 4-1
CV 3-2
SD 3-2

NV would get #1 seed and CV would get #3 seed for head to head victories.

If BP and SD win

BP 5-0
SD 4-1
NV 3-2
CV 2-3

Fred has already addressed what happens if NV and SD win.

Notes on Amat

To B&G,

I really don’t know what you mean by what you just said here, because, I have to let you in on a little secret, and that is to tell you that next years team looks to be about the same as this years.

Not to take anything away from coach, but the JV team is just as bad as the varsity was this year. They have been absolutely manhandled against good teams and to somehow expect the results to get any better next time around because it's a new year, is simply ludicrous.

To tell you the truth, the only way I can see any significant improvement next year for this team, is to go out, and recruit some good local talent, and at the same time, reschedule some games against some lesser opponents.

Perhaps games against local teams would do the trick for the short run, as I am certain Amat could take on many of these schools and do fairly well against the best programs in the SGV.

It’s funny, because I know that people don’t like to hear stuff like that, but it is what it is here and there is no way around it. You have to build a winning program around “winning some football games” and if you have to beat up on some of the locals, then so be it. There is a down side to this approach of course and that is if we should lose to these teams. At the very least, it is a first step. After all a win goes a long way in peoples perception, and in the moral of the players.

Let face it, victory makes the program much more attractive to those kids (and to their parents). The fact is that, success would go a long way in building prestige for this program and reinforce the dominance that was once Amat football.

Keep in mind that the only good team that we had this year was the freshman team and they won’t be playing varsity to a few years yet.

ARE YOU RELATED TO VERTI? THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE TO SUPPORT HIM. HE DOES NOT BELONG IN D1 FOOTBALL. HE IS INEXPERIENCED AND BISHOP AMAT DESERVES BETTER AND WILL GET BETTER AS SOON AS HE LEAVES THE PROGRAM. MANY HAVE VOICED THEIR OPINION AND AGREE THAT VERTI NEEDS TO LEAVE AMAT IN THE HANDS OF A SMARTER AND MORE EXPERIENCED COACH. HE SIMPLY IS OUTCOACHED EVERY GAME.

To the fans of loyal Damien, oh how the mighty have fallen. 300? Hardly, more like the crippled turncoat in the movie. Morrison will lose friday night, and we can finally move on to the coaching vacancy that has been awaiting Damien since Morrison 2-8 season. What's most disheartning is the amount of scholar athletes that were lost due to the program he runs. Can you imagine if he actually believed half the comments he makes to the parents? Damien WOULD be a powerhouse, but instead they are at the bottom looking for a freebie from Chino Hills to get into the play-offs? (Insert Mora replay here) I just think that the Mighty Mo is about to coach his final game and in the process finally do what it wright for Damien...resign. His team has already left, he just doesn't know it yet. They quit on him weeks ago. You can't count the past two weeks they were against a team that had no coach, and a team with as much pride has the Brahmas butt. Goodbye sweat Mo, Goodbye!!!

West Covina - Walnut, Wow! I predict W.C. rushing for 300+ yards That #3 is something.
South Hills should be tuning it up for CIF in a big win over Nogales.
Rowland, if they play like they did against South Hills in the first quarter, could beat Wilson.

My final thoughts on the La Puente Duarte game.

While many people couldn't fathom the idea that the Warriors could beat the Falcons last week, The coaches and players knew in their hearts that they could compete with anyone in their division. This was their defining momment, time for them to let everyone know with no doubt that can play with anyone! These kids play with their hearts on their sleeves as was proven Friday night. As for Duarte, There's no doubt that they are still one of the best teams in the SGV. I know they will go deep into the play-offs but sometimes it takes a little humbling experience to let you know just how hungry you must be to get the big prize! Good luck to both teams the rest of the way!

By the way, don't think for one minute that the Warriors will take this weeks game against Azusa lightly. Immediatly following last Friday nights victory, I heard the players and coaches already talking about this weeks preparation and "Closing out this thing" (The Montview League Title).
