CO players/fans you all need to check out the Orange County Register Newspaper. El Dorado fans and sports writers think little of CO's abilities. They are more concerned with South Hills based solely on their preseason scheduling. Reading all your hype on this site only makes us think that the only thing you pack are big mouths.

"Aints not for Nico" - you are crazy! Nico is just fine at SD. I am a NV fan and have watched this kid play the last 2 years. Why would he leave now? SD is going to be even better next year. If he is good enough to play at the next level, schools will find him, PERIOD! The playoff problem could be solved after this year, when the division realignment happens. It is not SD's fault they are placed in a BS division. They or any of the Valle Vista teams can't compete in that division with those teams. Come on now Oaks-last years DIV III STATE CHAMPION and people are saying MORRO BAY could represent the south in the DIV III STATE game this year. SD and NV had no chance! Place the VV in the Mid-Valley or Southeast DIV and watch what happens. Best of luck SD and NV. Great season and have a great offseason in the weight room!

after Oaks Christian Crushed you do you really think someone wants to transfer into that school to play football. Nico needs out of there and should really test his skills at the pac5 level of play. He dont need SD, SD needs him. He should go out as a senior competing for a CIF title..He will not get that playing for SD. If his dad is a wise man he would get him over to Amat or Serivte. All he is going to get at SD is low level talent around him and have to carry the load in the playoffs and then get bounced in the first round. Nico needs to play with better players around him.

To SD#70 who if any good player would want to call SD and transfer into your school and jump into your bandwagon so they can play in your leauge, get over it... I would say as of right now if anybody is going anyware they will want to go to WEST COVINA or South Hills just because of the teams they play... Good try...

I never played for Gano, my monikor, Conq'76, is trying to relay the idea I am from the class of '76, a loooong time ago. I played with the Hertel boys.

I realize you see yourself as some legitimate judge of coaching talent, and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but to my mind, succesful programs speak for themselves.

I don't know of one coach that has made the comment that Gano is a good coach. I do know of parents/boosters that say he is a good coach. Coach Welch, Coach Johnson, Coach Ladoucer, Coach Despain, Coach Merril these are coaches that coaches talk about.

Nico will not be going anywhere. He already has been getting college attention. And by the way we will be better next year! We only lose 4 Sr's who started. With 18 returning starters, I think we will continue to "do what we do" but, "make it better." In Addition, word is several kids have contacted the school for mid semester transfer. Could it be that other kids want to jump on the bandwagon? To all the people who rag on SD. Believe me when you call us names and put us down, all that does is continue the fire us up in the weight room! Thanks for the motovation! Have a great offseason and see you in sept!

First of all I don't assume that he can't coach, I see that he can't coach. I understand that you had a great time being coached by Gano on the oline, there are many kids out there that don’t share your experience. If these kids won or lost their position on the field then they can walk away saying they did their best and got beat, but these kids walk away with resentment toward Gano and staff. I do understand winning is important but at what expensive. Being that you weren't one of those on the short end it is easy for you to sit back and support this staff. I have too many good friends that weren't so fortunate.

It is real easy to type words in this blog, that doesn't make them facts. With the talent on LA's team’s year in and year out they should always be competing for a championship. Look at this year’s team, with the kids that they ended the season with. Are you going to try and tell me that the Wilson team has more talent than the LA team? Wilson had one player beat a whole LA team. If you are a well coached team one player doesn't beat you. The bottom line a well coached team stops Gilmore; a poorly coached team can't stop Gilmore.

Why is it you assume that simply because a coach recruits, he cannot coach also? Gano has demonstrated an ability to do both, that is one of his recruiting tools, he convinces the parents of the kids he recruits he can teach them to be the best they can be. What do you think he says to the families of the kids he recurits? Come play for me so I can kick back and relax? Of course not, it is likely along the lines of, "come play for me and I will teach you how to be a winner in football and in life."

If his message were any different, the secret would be out by now and no one would consider going to LAHS.

And I'll say it again, successful programs are certainly allowed to play on that success as long as they do so legally and ethically.

Gano can recruit, good for him. What stops other head coaches from duplicating his efforts? Oh yeah, it is a bit more difficult for the coach at Workman or Rowland or Nogales to parlay the history of their respective programs into something palatable to truly gifted atheletes.

I saw McBride interacting with teammates after running over LB Wilson. Everyone was slapping each other on the back and enjoying the moment. Winning was what was important to each of them. Looked to me that the Martinez' and the Seanez' were all happy to be playing with Mahmud rather than against him. Winning is a great morale builder.

I assume because of his recruiting skills, you would bet that he would be great at the collegiate level, right?

Here we go again, about LA and what would have been if they still had McBride. What would happen to LA if they dropped off all of Gano's recruits? Coach O doesn't go out and recruit like Gano does, Coach O, coaches his kids. That is why you see a bunch of over achievers out their playing for Wilson. Even when Wilson beat Los Altos a few weeks back. Match up the teams, Los Altos should have walked all over Wilson. The difference is heart and coaching, that is something that Gano can't recruit.

What is really funny about this LA Wilson rivalry is right after the Bonita lose do you know what was coming out of all the LA Fans mouths. O don’t worry about it we will be back next year. Gano’s getting a kid from CO and another from St. Paul both of them started on Varsity this year. I haven’t heard a single LA fan talk about their talent within their system. Last years LA freshman team went 9-1. I think this years Junior Varsity team won 2 games all year. What happen to all that talent? This years freshman team went 9-1 where is all that talent going to end up. You would think that with back to back 9-1 freshman teams LA would be set for the next couple of years.

As I have said in the past and will continue to say, I feel for those kids that work their way through the LA system. The odds of them every starting on the LA Varsity team isn’t very good. What is really said about this is they have loads of talent in the under classmen. But Gano’s lack of confidences in his coaching staff and the local kids is embarrassing.

Dont fool yourself..San Dimas sucks compared to CC, OC, and Glendora. There is no comparison. You probably think SD could beat CO. Compare that!

Northview people petioning for a RB recruit.

If I was a legit sophomore or junior lineman, I would go to Amat. They produce them. Whether your light(Cesar Rodriguez) or heavy(Brandon Bennet) or a little of both(Austin). To give my child a shot at a big time place, that's where I would send him to be a lineman.

Their skill guys are the cream of the crop for next year.

Great Season for the Tartans tho. I do give them all the credit but they are in way over their heads.

Best chance for Glendora to pull the upset: KO the CC running back in the first quarter and you just may have a chance.

Oscar is not leaving NV. Like it was said below, he should have been benched around week 7 or 8 and in fact was against pomona for about the last 3 quarters. He just needs to get his head straight again and figure out what he wants. Does he want to be one of the best, or just mediocre? Insider, your a joke, did u say coaches that can get him to the next level? I can think of no better coach than Coach Arrellanes, who went thru the recruiting process, played in college and in the pro's. QB is the most demanding position on the field, especially mentally, you have to know what you are getting yourself into when you decide to play this position. Oscar, NV showed you alot of loyalty sticking with you, now its time for you to show the same loyalty. True champions do not ride the coat tails of established programs and simply transfer when the going gets tuff, they rise to the occasion and dig themselves out of the hole they dug themselves. Dont point fingers unless your looking in a mirror.

amat has won 2nd round games as both the favorite and the underdog. But maybe as important to GHS we have also LOST in the 2nd round as the top seed, as CC is. amat went thru a string of disasterous 2nd round losses in the late '80s early '90s to the extent that some referred to it as the "Second Round Jinx". Maybe our best team EVER, that had several Division 1 and future NFL players lost in the 2nd round... so it can happen to even the most talented teams.

Something that is a little unique that sets the second round apart is that it gets teams out of a routine. Thursday practice on Thanksgiving? Early... or regular time? (South Hills does a great job of using the second round as a celebration and look at practicing on Turkey day as an honor. I think that they include the families and make it a big deal) Friday presents a bigger problem - No school. What to do all day? Bring them in early... then they sit around all day and think about the game. Is that good? Bad? Let them stay away and who knows what they do all morning... lay around and get lethargic? Walk the mall and lose their legs?

I guess the point is that sometimes this round is an equalizer and goes to the team that handles the different routine the best and stays the most focused. I'm pretty certain that the worst thing to do is worrying about winning. The scoreboard is pretty irrelevant and the most important thing for players is to focus on individual responsibilities on each series... each play.... not the score.

As fans, boosters, parents (bloggers), the worst thing that we can do is overemphasize the game and make it seem bigger than it is. For GHS it should really be no bigger than playing Ayala, CHills, or Damien. What are they going to do? Try *harder* than their best? They should be striving for that every time out - regardless of the opponent. Play "better" than their best? Impossible, by definition alone. Maybe "redefine" what your best is and raise the bar, but the tasks are the same. The beauty is that while CC might be #1, #19, whatever... the Tartans don't have to match that... they just have to be better on Friday.

I have been watching films of CC and, I agree they are "machine like" and methodical in how they play offense. Defense makes "hits" like the pros. Bass runs up field like a hot knife through butter.

This team will make Hart look like a JAA squad. Glendora will have their hands full just keeping their offense on the field.

Oscar is fine at Northview. He had some mental problems at the end of the year thats it. Northview will be fine next year huge numbers returning. All Northview needs next year is a running back. Dbs Wrs Coming Back, o-line d-line coming back, Qb coming back, linebackerws coming back, we just need a Running back. If you wanna start and take an open job Northview is the Place to go. Northview League champs next year compete for cif Championship.

CC and Oaks Christian should be playing Pac 5 division. I was at the San Dimas game and the San Dimas crowd was taken out of the game after two scores by OAKS C. Their lineman look line college lineman. they blew SD off the ball. I do give credit to Nico Barbone he was trying to keep pace but he was over matched. He is a very good player and with all the Robles transfer talk, Nico is the one that should consider transferring to a PAC5 school, yes he is that good. Hey Amat,Servite,O-luth, Mater Dei come get him. SD is not going to be very good next year and he is all they have. Nico goes Pac5 and he will get a ride to a good college. As far as Robles tranferring Bryce adn Tillis will move out of the apartment soon and you can move in and be one of Ganos recruits. If your parents want you elsewhere do not try to move up stay in the D6 or D7 level, you will get cracked or will not even start if you try Amat.

LA was a slight underdog a few years ago against Orange Lutheran in the Div.6 championship, and the only advice I can offer is to focus on your own strengths. Do what you do best and endeavor to do it better then ever.

CC is a machine, but machines can break or have a power failure or two from time to time. Bass will get his carries as long as Corona has the ball. When you have the ball, keep it, strive for the four and five yard safer plays and avoid the urge to go for the big gainer or "homerun" play. Even if it is successful, you are going to be handing the ball back over to them sooner rather than later.

I know, "ball control" is a bit of a cliche', but when you know what is coming back at you when you give it up, making an effort to hold onto it a bit longer may help to control what many believe is an inevitable outcome.

Sorry for the GHS faithful getting a little carried away. Yes, we are in territory we've not been in for a while. Actually, I think only Amat and I guess Damien can say they've been here before. Round 2 of a top tier division facing the best of the best. Any words of advice you long time Lancers? You've won in these situations before. Maybe as a favorite, but I'm sure as an underdog a time or two. Not trying to take your seat as the top dog upper division program in the valley, but this year I guess we're left holding the torch. What's the approach in a game like this?

The computer rating system does as good a job as it can comparing teams from different parts of the country, but realistically these teams rarely play oneanother. I'm a Viking Fan and have mixed feelings about the subject on Oscar leaving or not leaving...If this is coming at all from his family, you have got to be kidding. I was a little surprised by the preseason coverage of this player...Sorry, but he's an ok qb early in the season and a very questionable qb late in the year...If anything, kudos to the coaching staff for taking care of this kid (allowed him to play late in year when he had no business playing). QB is a tough position I'll grant that, but Oscar and family, Northview is where you started and it's where you should want to finish...As someone said earlier, get better, don't point fingers, you know deep down that you stunk late in the year and they still played you. It might've been the poonanny you're wrapped around that distracted you this year. Look within.
If you go, please don't go anywhere up(tougher league)...you will regret it!!!

my honest opinion, i think they would be in the same boat as sh and co, meaning would not be surprised if they won the thing, after saying that would also not be suprised that wc could knock one of them out, i think the other teams are beter than wc, but wc is good enough to beat them on any given night,charter oak could of beat us by 50-60 that night, i also saw your game against them, i really believe they could of won that onme by a lot more also.my reasoning for saying what i did about la, mcbride !! dont know how much you saw him, ive seen snowden, gilmore, wells, all very very good players, honestly mcbride one step above them, in my opinion, but we will never know.so, i think co is the better team but also think if there off and your on you could beat them, remember this is hs footbal, still just young men out there.

Everytime I ask about next years or future schedules, all I get is silence, yet when ever there is any other, seemingly trivial issue, then everybody seems to know everthing all of a sudden !

The other day, someone in this post said that Amat was going to play Diamond Ranch next year. Ok if that is so, then Amat still has to fill in 4-5 more games to make up a ten week schedual, because they already have league games against ND, Crespi and Loyola, plus a game against OL. Right ?

Well that makes a total of five (possible) confirmed games so far. Still need those 4-5 more games. Anyone care to chip in a few more details as to whom is in consideration here ?

Robles to AMAT never!. Amat has Nick Lenhart and he will be back and even better next year. His Back up Jerry McClanahan is also a pretty good QB. I can see Gano luring him to Los Altos or a Up and coming WC team needing a QB or even Covina. Amat he does not belong there. He will stay at Northview. Walnut needs help at QB but Robles would get himself killed with that O-line Walnut has. He lives in WC so So. Hills, WC and Covina are good choices for him to go. He will not leave Northview..

Hi ferd im an insider to northview football. I know our season is over and we accomplshed great things but there is rumor going around about QB oscar robles transfering to bishop amant or another school im not shure. Ive heard from people in the stands at the last game that he and other family members are unhappy with his treatment at this school. In my opionion he is a great player and im sorry vikes he does not belong at northview. He needs coaches that will help him develop and help him to get to college. According to everyone he was playing with a hairline fracture in his ankle from week one where in the case the coaches left him in to long and practily riun his season.Fred if you can update me with anything pn this i would like to know. And myself and many others would like to know what schools are involved with robles transferring.

After my 162-51 regular season finish I thought, can the playoffs be any tougher? You tell me; 17-4 and I called for the wins by South El Monte and Wilson (which I said on the 11th was the Valley's best chance for an upset).

Had I stuck with the conventional wisdom and picked Bonita to get rolled by the “hills” team they were saddled with or bet with the points in the Santa Fe game I could have floated a bigger gloat. My mistake in the West Covina-Canyon game was ignoring my earlier statement that WesCo had “the second best chance for an upset.

If I were Fred and Steve, I would also predict a win for CC. It's Fred and Steve's job to think with their heads and not their hearts. You don't think they want to see Glendora upset CC? On paper you have no choice. I picked USC over Stanford and said "no way Stanford even stays in the game". Hey, I was dead wrong on that game. Strange and unexpected things can happen in HS sports.

You almost have to chuckle with the thought of upsetting the #13 team in the country. But, you know, what the hell! Can you imagine if it did happen? Maybe this is the test that Tartan Haters were referring to? Can it be that the Tartans wouldn't be considered a good team unless they beat the #13 team IN THE COUNTRY?
