Basketball rankings: Bonita moves to top on boys poll

Above: Bonita's Robert Schmidt dropping two on Santa Fe in Alhambra tournament championship game.
Boys Basketball
1. Bonita (9-1)
Alhambra tourney champs should be considered Miramonte League favorites
2. Damien (9-3)
Great showing in And1 tourney; Austin Napolitano averaging 16 points and eight boards
3. Diamond Ranch (6-3)
Triple threat with Chris Cunningham, Ryan Kelly and Garrett Johnson
4. Nogales (9-3)
One of area's hottest teams has won seven of last eight
5. Glendora (7-4)
Three-straight wins, but going to need more than just Dominic Tiger-Cortez
6. Diamond Bar (6-4)
Should give Damien a run for their money in Sierra
7. Northview (8-4)
Hard to digest how they lose such an ugly game, 28-25 to Alhambra
8. South Hills (7-1)
Okay, so it was just the Azusa tournament, but a title is a title
9. Walnut (7-3)
Love the overall record, but can't escape the two blowout losses by more than 40 points
10. La Verne Lutheran (7-0)
Could go undefeated with a group of freshman and soph's leading the way

Above: Amat's Kristen McCarthy earned second straight tournament MVP honors after win over Monrovia in championship of Arroyo tourney on Monday.
Girls Basketball
1. Bishop Amat (8-0)
Arroyo tournament was too easy, let's see how they do in Ayala tourney after Christmas
2. Covina (9-0)
If Colts win Rowland tournament next week, they will go undefeated until the playoffs
3. Diamond Ranch (7-4)
Obviously not the team they've been in recent years, but still one of area's best
4. Wilson (8-2)
Coach Ed Bruynincx had a smile from ear to ear talking about this team
5. Walnut (6-3)
Ella Rodriguez doing it all as Mustangs the clear favorites to take San Antonio
6. Glendora (6-4)
Don't look at the losses, look at the solid wins over Upland and Sonora
7. Azusa (5-1)
The early surprise of the season has a 46-40 win over South Hills on resume
8. South Hills (4-2)
Sophomore Melinda Gomez is already one of area's best, but she needs help
9. Sierra Vista (4-4)
Should be better than this, but to be fair, all four losses were to quality teams with winning records
10. South El Monte (5-3)
You win three straight and have a winning record, you should be in top ten

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
anybody happen to catch finals of La puente girls tournament final between Sierra Vista and Diamond Bar??
Fred,
Heard there was a Glendora basketball article in the Dec. 30th paper. Is it available to read here online also?
Glendora plays a tough and big Los Alomitos team for the Championship of the Century Tournament in the OC tonight. Should be a good test for the ever improving Tartans who have won 6 of 7.
Okay Diamond Bar boys team is offcially off my radar as of now. Whats up with Brahmas?? Im most intrigued at the fact that they are losing close ones.

Fred,
I think a lot of people still read the basketball stuff with interest. The fans may not be as aware of this sight, they may not be as outspoken either. Also, I think as league gets closer, it'll get more interesting. The main reason is probably that there are many less players and therefore many less parents to got on, get worked up and respond. Doesn't mean we're not paying attention though. Thanks for the coverage.
pfromgsux,
listen hear d**k..... I never said the previous teams were good.....all i said was that they were stacked this year... They've got plenty of young pitching (who use their left arms)... and they are renovating their field from what ive heard... All Im saying is this team, and Chino Hills are both going to open some eyes this year.
Aram told me there wasn't a lot of interest in blogging boys and girls basketball. Guess I should go straight to boys and girls soccer after the New Year
Glendora will finish in the top 5 this year. It pains me to say this but I believe they have a legit player in Tiger-Cortez and solid team. Coaching is always iffy with that guy but at least he has talent to bail him out of his mistakes. They will not beat Damien, but they will make for good highlight reel material. Thanks Tartans!
Fred,
it appears your ability to prevent posters hijacking other bloggers monikers isn't working ! This was posted on the South Hills thread.
"why is Freddy Krueger holding a huskies flag in a picture on this blog?

I DID NOT POST THIS! and never would. for those of you who hide behind hijacking others names, You are nothing but losers who dont even have enough backbone to post on a blog as yourselves. Get some confidence and come up with an idea that has something to do with the topic on the thread and then post it.

"Holy Sh*t I never thought I'd see the day when the Damien Basketball program is the best program among the 3 majors in the school. Football has been relatively average and baseball has fallen dramatically since the late 90's when they won a CIF title. What is going on at that school? Congrats to the basketball program. Is it still a good school academically?"
pfromgsux,
DHS does have some problems with football but BASEBALL,,,,,,
hold on to your panties this year buddy.....I hear they are stacked in pitching.. That has been their problem for years....This program is promising for this year and for years to come.... Watch out, these guys are going to be legit..
south hills hasnt even played anybody worthy
how are they ranked?
Thanks for the write up on my daughter Khalalah Todd today from Northview High School. Very much appreciated!!
these teams aint got nothing on a Compton team led by Demar Derozen. Demar would baptise each and every one of these schools....
Looks like the Sierra is going to be a battle this year. DB, CH, GL & DHS all off to solid starts, but nobody's running away with things. I thought Ayala would be down this year, but coach Gregory seems to have them playing well also. It's up for grabs and can't wait for league play to begin. The most competetive and best ball around this valley.

Fred/Steve, not on topic, but Thanks for the wrestling preview! Keep em coming! Go Lancers!
Right on Lady Colts, after the Blaire Egardo teams you are still going strong and holding your own... Awesome...
