This blog was unbelievably helpful. Your the man. lol :)
You make blogging look like a walk in the park! I've been trying to blog daily but I just cant find writing material.. you're an inspiration to me and i'm sure many others!
Hi all. Temptation rarely comes in working hours. It is in their leisure time that men are made or marred. Help me! I can not find sites on the: Cf symptom diabetes. I found only this - diabetes natural. The doctor released by checking the qualification of health begun by the nothing, diabetes. If both leads have the risk, the youth of making it is 75 per mayor, diabetes. Thank :-( Rufina from Czech.
Who was the 1987 Coach of the year... Brian Beveridge, Northview?
ol-Aaron Michaelis #74, 6'3 280. He would punish blitzing linebackers, just ask CO and wilson
Just found out how fast time really does fly...No one's perfect....Matt Baca is a senior....my bad.
Baca is a senior this year, Ayala will be going with a new quarterback in 2008. They have a lot of seniors leaving but still have a strong core of juniors.
Mean Machine
Right you are! the four years have come and gone in a hurry. Actually to be more exact the last ten years have been a blur with all three of my kids up at GHS. Lots of memories to last a life time. Great school, city, community, and fan base. Although, some might argue all four of those valued points, it's still been worth the experience.
Since the SL honors will be posted by the Tribi tomorrow I'll refrain from bursting the bubble for those that will be waiting for the delivery of the newspaper in the morning. To the east of us a Chino local rag posted the SL selections and it is possible that what they reported may have already hit GHS and our players. Either way I think it is only proper to allow the Tribi and Fredj to do their thing.
As for next year (2008). The SL will be interesting to watch. As a homer you obviously know who I'll be pulling for. I think the SL gained some respect from our neighbors from the Inland Empire. Hopefully the draws to the CIF Playoffs will receive those benefits this coming year. Ayala and the return of Baca at the QB spot looks promising. He's a franchise player with the ability to connect when needed. With the return of certain WR's and TE's his numbers should sky-rocket. Damien is another team that no one should ever discount from the race. Morrison will be ready like he is every year and I'm sure his pool of athletes will rise to the occasion when competing for the SL title. GHS established some things this year that other plaid teams have not upon making the second round of the CIF. I look for them to be just as strong on defense as they were this year with C.Young and Meraz leading the pack. GHS will surprise those in doubt with Kid Kuluzny showing his stuff while Holmes, Gonzalez and Bankhead lay tracks.
Alot of the underclassmen received real time experience and that should benefit those claiming to establish their name on the field. As for the rest of the SL....well, Chino Hills, Chino, and Diamond Bar appeared a little thin this year. I honestly believe that the affects of new HS schools opening in each of their old governed territories has depleted their athletic gene pool to some degree. But given that all three schools are plum to come up with one or two franchise players that could make things interesting throughout the season. I'm sure several SGV teams would agree with that statement.
Hey, a lot can happen from now to then...just have to wait and see. (como no)
PLAID LAD
Plaid Lad...as always we find common ground in our love of football and family. I can't wait for the ALL LEAGUE selections for the SIERRA LEAGUE. This will be very intersting.
Glendora might have at least 15 ALL LEAGUE selections. At least 4 linemen Addison, McGarry, Sefton and one more) At least all four LBS. Maybe a corner and S Beckwith. And then you have Kovar and the other 2 DL who put pressure on QBs all season long. Well your boy Jake of course as well as the QB K, and the other RB. I don't think any WR or TE makes the cut but then again your team was exactly that a "TEAM". I don't know how you will fair next year but Coach P. really has you guys jelling pretty good.
Maybe next year everyone will be chasing AYALA with senior QB Baca at the helm for the Undefeated league title. With Damien and now Glendora pulling off that feat back to back maybe Baca "wills" a trifecta. Any thoughts what happened to Chino Hills this year. I saw them "quit" against Damien in the last game oif the season. I couldn't believe a Roche coached team could/would do that but they did. If you think about it the LEAGUE is kind of like a Cracker Jack's box...you never know what's inside.
Tell me Plaid Lad ...did the 4 years fly by or what? Any Glendora players getting any attention to continue playing at the next level?
Mean Machine
Sorry, you felt disrespected when I called you "Mijo." It was not my intent. Working around and recognizing those that you fully respect, no matter their age, title, etc, are often called, "Mijo" around my office. The word is used as a form of appreciated address, camaraderie, and or solidarity. Unfortunately, you and I don't work together. So, my bad!

Not sure what info you have as to peeps targeting mom's on the blog, but the general opinons and comments offered on this website come from all over the SGV and probably beyond. I'm not in the habit of trying to read between the lines as to who might have been vulgar or disrespectful to someone on this site. Those that have a pension of stirring the pot for the sake of writing "lol" or "LMAO" at the end of being disrespectful, offer little in response by someone like me. I try to make it a habit of not exchanging words with those individuals. As a word to the wise, mom's that are offended by what is said on this blog should act upon the same advice and ignore the frustration and continue to be the positive influences in their children's lives.

In response to your football question regarding coaches that recreate the "defensive wheel"...each year at the LB position. Well, as players come and go every coach throughout the HS football world has the same dilemma. Some teams I know have no problem reloading. My honest opinion is that most head coaches like the idea of playing their seniors no matter what talent might be waiting at the lower levels. Maybe some coaches do it because they like the look of senior leadership.....and maybe that isn't the answer at all. But I know what you're saying because over the many years of following HS football I've witnessed what you question. In the latter situation, it would make sense that the LB position would have to be reestablished each year. In some cases I've seen teams produce a strong group of athletes that fill that void yearly and it never affects the product of their successes. Yet, in other programs I've witnessed a depletion of that particular position (as well as others) and the team tailspins based solely due to the lack of field experience. Personally, I like the idea of "passing forward" the successes of last seasons experienced athletes to better establish your current and future core. Hell, I suppose if I actually had the answers I wouldn't sound as if I was theorizing what any coach really thinks.
PLAID LAD
76er,
you're right
Los Altos: 10
Bishop Amat: 9
then everyone else
and Bill Stone went to ROYAL Oak in '80
Fred,
I STILL count 10 LAHS players of the year! LOL, ya' know, just for the sake of accuracy!
Well Plaid Lad that's the difference between us. No point picking on women. Mom's hold a special place in my eyes and maybe that's a weakness on my part but still...bagging on moms is low. See that's an opinion and we just disagree. No harm and no foul.
For the hundredth time. It wasn't about my son. He doesn't need my help to show his athletic ability...wrestling proved that. So please stop the Dr. Phil impersonation. I'll make it simple. Coaches are human. A parent talks too much and disagrees too much and gets blackballed. That's fair. Rarely does it affect the player/kid as openly as it did with my sons. That's a fact. There... that's the personal side. BLOGGERS WHO COME ON HERE AND SAY OTHERWISE ARE LIARS. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
But Plaid I'll ask you a football question. How many teams do you know that have to start 3 different sets of LBs in 3 years (whole new sets). 05 Miller Hile Dawson Lucero/ 06 Stokes Hile Gomez/ 07 Dominguez Simmons Schott. 08 Williams Sale Flores Veith? See the pattern ALL 1ST YEAR STARTERS? Except Hile. 3 different senior QBs 06 Mendrun, 07 Pertusati, 08 Betance in 3 straight years? Maybe 4? Have one of the biggest pools of large football players and avg no more than 500 yards a season rushing for their featured back over 3 years, throw 85% of the balls to the same receiver ? Go 2-8 the year after starting Ian Johnson in the backfield and never change QBs? Even though the QB only threw for 460 yards all season? Gets schooled by any team that runs the T? Plays 6'5 and 6'6" 260+ lineman down on JV their Soph years? That's a question for a smarter man than me. Have at it.
Either way..way off topic.
Picking on Moms ain't cool.
Sitting kids to prove a point to a outspoken Dad ain't cool either.
Case in point. As much as MTC got under a few "buttonwearers" skin they never made it about his son or "OUTED" him....that's a credit to Glendora and a lesson for others to learn.
You're lucky to have Coach P. This year proves it...or maybe it was your coaching at the JAA level. Either way best of luck with your son. He was a STUD this year.
But please don't call me "mijo" anymore. Again that's assuming alot on your part. Besides I think my Pops sticks a foot up your a$$ on general principle for that alone....and he's 72... entiendes? Men are men and boys are boys. I'll assume you're a man as well.
ay fred don't worry about how i got on this sight but fred you need to PUT CHIMA IKE ON YOUR LIST
Mean Machine (let's talk mijo)
I've been absent from Fred's blog for a while, but recently I poked my nose back into what has transpired since everyone's season ended. A lot of newies on the site nowadays, some I kinda recognize under different names. So, be it!
In response to bagging on "Mom's on the blog," I'd have to disagree with you. I've always believed that anyone (including yours truly) is open for criticism when expressing opinions, comments, or agendas, on this site. Good, bad, or indifferent, there are no set rules on how any of us should communicate on this gray space.
I suppose the Tribi expects all adults to remain civil. Those with civil minds are more approachable when it comes to discussing true HS football interest(s). For others this site has become a "Chicken Soup for the Football Soul," as some bloggers vent and carry on under the umbrella of personal agendas, campaigns, and personal interests. Either way the blogging veil of this website has been good. Adversely, the one exception for me would have to be those bloggers that often cross racial boundaries. There should be a no tolerance for racism on this site, which I'm sure you would all agree.
Anyway, you've been easy to read throughout the time on this website. Your distain and anger with Damien's Head Football Coach is obvious to recognize, but difficult to understand.
If by chance your son happened to be the product of the Spartans successes on the football field, would you've been more in line to defend your head coach when verbally attacked by others? If the answer to this question is, "Yes" then it was best for your son and you to find solace in an individual sport...such as wrestling, golf, etc...
Even at the best of times, a "Coach's Call" may or may not be a crowd favorite. Over the years I've posted my own opinions in that regard. Coaches are human and often under the same stresses of life as anyone else. Do they make mistakes? You bet! Are their decisions in the best interest of our children? I believe they are.
I've also always believed that "playing time" for any athlete is earned. If by chance someone standing on the sideline became dissatisfied with his lack of participation and use come game day, then it was apparent that that athlete needed to ratchet up his performance during practice to gain the recognition to start on Friday night.
Anything short of being one of the starting eleven must be eventually accepted by the player if he is to remain a part of the team. I know you understand what I mean, and we are all aware of your personal bias...for we are all without fault and or blame.
Unfortunately, our best solutions to problems never reach the chalkboards of most HS coaches. When you understand WHY, you'll understand exactly WHERE, HOW, and IF, you fit into your program.
FYI: Best wishes to you during the holiday season

YES , I still play from time to time in Arcadia , I BULLY the little guys around .The shot IS the last thing to go , I AM OUT OF shape but still find SOMEWAY to bully the guys I played with 15+ years ago around . And the shot ...IS STILL THERE , best not leave me alone or I'LL MAKE YOU LOOK SILLY .Name time & place & if I can make it ...MAYBE . With a 18 month old & the wife due 1/31/08 my hands are kind of full . Mike Garrett is a pretty cool guy , I knew him from WAY back , he worked for my uncle in the mid 70's . BEFORE being AD @ USC .
FIGHT ON

Trojan Man...nice! Forgot the "h" in Champurado...lol. I'm a "pocho" ...what do you expect? The nice thing about mi cultura is it's always there right in front of you...que no?
Anyway, how about that distinguished gentleman from Roosevelt High School in my beloved Boyle Heights...somehow since he got the AD job the TROJANS have been racking up Championships in ALL SPORTS! And now soccer as well. Fight On is RIGHT!!!! Next year with Sanchez at the helm and McKnight and Tyler in the backfield he'll add one more. OJ Mayo came to USC for a reason. Galen Center Madness to follow.
Maybe there is something about coming from the bottom that makes people ignore the obstacles and concentrate on "getting it done"! (to borrow a phrase) Imagine a Heisman, a pro career and now this! Some people are just blessed or maybe it's just that Mike Garrett outworks everyone else. See the 60 minute profile on San Diego's LT? Hardest working man in the NFL and easily one of the best individual stars to come along in a long time. Bet San Diego is glad they traded the Michael Vick pick for LT.
Here's a toast to Mike Garrett! Rough Rider at heart and a Trojan for life!
Trojan Man you still up for a game of "hoops"? My son tells me the "shot" is the last thing to go...is that true?
Champurado ...
I'LL HAVE A LARGE CUP !!!
FIGHT ON

Good Fella...
I'm crushed! lol
My son wins summer wrestling tournaments @ 171/189 but rides the pine in football? (blessing in disguise really)By the way how did the JV players from last year do this year? Salter, Reyes and Betance were studs but what about everyone else? Anyway anyone who doesn't think it's personal with my boys need only look in the mirror. Like I said it's only sports. The difference between me and you is Morrison knows how I feel and and more importantly why (private matter). Where as you pick and choose your spots. The guy plays favorites, surrounds himself with yes men and doesn't admit when he's wrong or unfair to players or parents. (a long list by the way) In 30 years of sports I've never heard more coaches call players "soft or p&ssies" than I've heard from Damien coaches. That's a fact. Ask around. Better yet ask a coach. Their a pretty loose lip crowd.
Today my son was pulled by his arm by his travel ball basketball coach and held there at half court for 30 seconds. When the assistant coaches told the HC to "let him go!!!" he shouted "I don't care he needs to SHOT!" His name is Art Carrington and he coaches for Temple City's Varsity football team. 30 plus year at the high school level and he pulls that! The game was still going on and he didn't let his arm go even though the ball was on the other side of the court. My son's "sin" ...didn't take enough 3's. Too much of a team player for his liking. Even though he played 95% of 2 back to back games at the point. Toughest position on the floor.
When you have talent, and he does, coaches expect alot of you but my son said the magic words that puts it all into perspective..."It isn't fun anymore." That's it... we're done. He has the same view of his chances at Damien even though he's probably more fundamentally sound than most present players. At LA Fitness he's one of the few elementary age kids that plays with the big boys and holds his own. He's guarded Nate Dogg (a big thrill) and Mahoney fom San Dimas (great kid by the way)as well as starting guards from Bonita Troy & Garh(also great basketball players and also great thrill). But hey when he gets to DHS it'll be "his son...oh hell NO!". Well there's always Debate! And Ballingall would be happy to have him, just like he had my other son for 4 years. You know Debate right? Nationally ranked. ..Yeah where the smartest kids from around the country compete...their only weapon..BRAIN POWER. But you knew that didn't you? I don't think Debaters go the JC route (Let's see...Brown, Cal, Cal, UCSC, UCSB and oh yeah..USC. (Class of '07) This is cheering me up already Good Fella! lol
A nice PRS guitar sounds better to my son than a bouncing ball and a ridiculous over grown bully at this point. Try and put things into perspective my friend. I didn't rant and rave or confront the coaches or yell from the sidelines. I let my son handle his business. Try doing that yourself next time instead of finding fault with me in the most cowardly of ways...on line. You see me on campus...like I've said before (last year as well)...let's talk , shake hands and enjoy our sons. Life's short...let's not make it difficult.
The more you think you know me the more you find out you don't measure up. And we both know that's true. And I guess that would be very fustrating on your part. Get some help.
Fight on! Need some Rose Bowl tickets? Oh that's right...my bad. :-) Well there's always the discount rack at Walmart...USC TROJANS T-shirts $9.99 USC education...$200,000... being their Daddy...priceless.
Joe Amat, Dan, Amat 73, MTC, Plaid Lad...did that clear the fences! LMAO ! Some people will never learn.
Buenas noches amigos. Play nice. Campurado anyone?
Bonita was garbage this year threw the ball to(Zylstra) one guy CO had weapons South Hills had weapons All Valley is about players on good teams that also had good stats not necesarily the best stats sierra vista shouldn't have any all valley guys and Bonita shouldn't have there TE as an All Valley guy either there teams sucked and there average players anyway its about who had good stats on the teams that made it past the first round
Where are they now?
1984 Player of the Year....
Michael Johnson, Baldwin Park QB
He is an NFL Coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
http://www.baltimoreravens.com/Team/CoachBio.aspx?id=1352
Damien Dad, MEAN MACHINE, Trojan Dad, (and/or any other bogus name you blog under)
"Stop bagging on each over personal matters??????"
Aren't you the same disgruntled parent from Damien that bagged on our head football coach due to the fact that your son rode the pine. I recall Damien faithfuls pleaded for you to stop your one-sided spews. And now you want to give all of us the answers to the test! Man, that's just RICH isn't it? Thank you for being the honorary, "Shell Answer Man."
Merry Christmas
Bashing "MOMS"? Wow that's low even for this blog. Glad to see the Christmas spirit has overtaken a few misguided souls.
Whatever "anyone" does or writes can be ridiculed and made to look foolish and disgraceful. All you need is a coward, a keyboard and the twisted mind of an imbecile.
This goes out to all the bloggers. Enjoy the time your kids play sports. It's fleeting, fun and fantastic to watch but it will end in the blink of an eye. And like McD, Jon Joe or Mendrun, all great SGV legends in their own right, high school might be the top of their athletic mountain...best of luck to them all. At least I will never forget their will, their spirit or their individual performances. Maybe Nico will be that player as well..."remembered". Best of luck to him and his family.
My son's promising wrestling career was over just as it was beginning to take off this year. Being a Varsity Captain after only wrestling one year really was an accomplishment but alas a non segmented disk, discovered while looking at his injured shoulder, put his health at risk and his athletic career in the rear view mirror. Maybe not getting "playing time" in football was a blessing in disguise. Every cloud has a silver lining...I know. Either way I thank God for his health and wonderful spirit. He's a Champion and a "stud" in my eyes. Wrestling only helped "others" see what I already knew. He has the heart of a lion and the conviction to accept God's plan for him. Be a leader by example, be coachable and never give in to other's people weaknesses. Giving up is out of the question but giving in is a cancer that never stops growing.
Today my oldest son goes into his final week of exams at one of the finest school in the nation, USC. Never saw more than 5 minutes of court time in any one game over a 3 year period. Now he's on soccer and basketball teams at USC and having the time of his life! Bet every one of those favored players/parents would give their right arm to trade places with my son. Not bragging just trying to put things into perspective. Stop bagging on each other about personal matters. Come Graduation Day the real ALL VALLEY winners will be announced. " Attending ...." THAT'S WHAT REALLY MATTERS LONG TERM.
Maybe Fred could announce an "ALL ACADEMIC VALLEY TEAM" with colleges and see who drops off. Best of luck to every sports "nut" (I'm as sick as all of you) and just remember Lawence Phillips was Player of the Year and where is he now? Maybe all he really needed was someone who could help him rather than the hordes of people who cheered him on while his childhood "mightmare" caught up with him. I hope he finds peace in his life and God in his heart before he hurts more innocent bystanders.
Great season Fred. On to basketball!
Fight On!
Trojan Dad until the next one goes to college! By then I'll be 4 for 4. Not bad for a Zapatereo's son.
COY:james heggins, a year after losing aaron harris, u guys were talking smack saying we werent gonna do anything this season, well look wat he did...he created the #1 defense (thats right #1) in the valley. sure ray hernandez did good at L.P. but that league sux! at least the V.V. league is better.
for lineman: 66 and 54 of BP were both dominant and the one of the main reasons for BP's amazing run defense and both dominant OT's as well
for ap: angel acevedo...QB, RB, WR, LB, CB, SS, FS...u name it he did it all, anyone else who did this much to lead his team?
first of all Sd scored the most points on Oaks then combined all playoff teams and second you people need to chill your just jealous cause you dont got sons like nico
COY??
PASQY"
Could any coach do what he has done in Glendora?
Damien Spartan
You didnt answer Austins question. Why?
Real Spartans would like you to stop. Its easy to see your a woman in boys clothes.
chris allen should be looked at for player of the year.if we are talking about how much a person meant to a team.with leadership and talent. just look at his record.
Damien Spartan (Mrs.B)
Since you have such a new found glory of faith, please ask GOD which HS program will gain Championship status in 2008. Will it be a program that believes to be just Saintly (SD) or a program that honors a real Saint (Damien)?
I will pray for you!
Move on and get over it.
Damian Spartan, Did Father teach you to accept deceict? Are you defending those actions with Bible quotes? Promotion isnt the issue here. Its the bashing of players, coaches, programs during that promotion that has upset so many.
I just opened a Christmas card that read 'please vote for my son'.
Nothing to do so I read this entire thread. I then collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The prognoses was grime. I contracted a rare disease called Barboneitise. The Doc thinks its curable. With a little help from Mrs. B and the end of her constant solicitations for POY, I'm sure to recover. Been ordered to stop reading Freds blog. Oh, the pain of being so fragile. I'm now going to take up bird watching.
Dorian Wells!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
El Dorado scores with 25 seconds left in the game to seal a 13-12 victory! And back-to-back CIF Southwest Division Champions!!!!!!!!
Dan at December 7, 2007 7:09 PM
Great to see kids from the SGV moving on to the college ranks.
Keep working hard and the opportunites come around!
Thats awesome about Walter Thurmond,
Watched him on TV several times this year & last year, he is certainly a key player on defense for Oregon. I looked up his stats on the Oregon football website and he led the team in solo tackles,[72 solo + 26 assisted tackles] and was second on the team with total tackles. What is incredible is that he is not a linebacker or safety but he is a corner back.
As of this week he is the pac ten leader in pass attempts batted down, and he also has 4 interceptions, and 1 fumble returned for a TD.
I also heard that William Wallace, another former WC Bulldog from last years team, is red shirting and doing well on the scout team.
BP kid Acevedo got POY in the Valle Vista League.
Sounds great to me
LETS GET A PRE-SEASON BASEBALL THREAD UP!
WHOS GOING TO BE NUMBER#1
Update: Two Time Member of the Tribune All-Area Football Team (2003 - 2004) Walter Thurmond III.
This former West Covina Bulldog and current Cornerback for the University of Oregon was just named a member of the 2007 College Football News Sophomore All-America Team.
http://cfn.scout.com/2/708801.html
And
Earlier this week he made The PAC-10 ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM (Honorable Mention)
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/pac10/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/FB-AllConf2007.pdf
To SD Outta the box:
Barbone got most of his yards in the 1st half. Watch the game before you talk. I'm not saying he is POY, but he is 1st team. Gilmore was lights out so give him POY and Barbone 1st team Back. What's wrong with that?
People say he didn't get player of the year in his league. How do you know, have those results been posted yet? If he didn't that is a crime. Who else in the VVL did anything on offense? BP had no one, Covina, and Northview had nothing either. Without Barbone, SD was nothing but a pack of girls. Well I would love some answers about VVL player of the year. How do people know the results?
Fred,
Are you kidding me? Why did San Dimas drop to #8? They lost to Oaks Freaking Christian, as would anyone in this valley. Shouldn't be penalized that much. Anyone who watches football knows that the Saints would have beaten Compton Centennial, and BP could not. Hope you're not going to say, "Well BP beat you." Well, we beat South El Monte. You saw both BP and SD a few times, honestly who is the better team? I mean USC lost to UCLA last year, did that mean UCLA was a better team that season? Come on, use some common sense. STATS at December 6, 2007 7:06 PM,
Mr. Harris has very good numbers also, Overall I don't believe better than Gilmore being that you added 361 return yards. Not sure where you found that number being that I was looking for that number on Gilmore. In one game Gilmore had almost 200 yards in kick returns. On the defensive end of the ball I believe that Gilmores numbers are better with the interceptions and the yardage.
Once again excellent numbers, As I stated earlier he was the only rushing in the area that had more yards, be it only 27 yards. He is up their with Gilmore and to date the only person that is up their with Gilmore.
Gilmore 1978 rushing yards
Gilmore 406 receiving yards
Gilmore 232 interception yards (17th in the Nation)
Gilmore 5 interception
GILMORE 174 POINTS
GILMORE 29 TOUCHDOWNS
Can any one match these numbers?

(CONTINUED FROM BELOW) -be part of the decision-making. Included in this equation the evaluators should also consider, which of these listed athletes helped his team and program to progress the furthest while competing in the CIF finals against a worthy opponent. Taking into account all that I have listed will allow the onion to peel away for most considerations. Be honest, what ONE athlete fits those categories?
Sorry for the separation on this thread, my bad.

SGV's Player of the Year
Reading this site I have concluded that everyone has bias opinions as to who should wear the royal crown of POY. RB's such as Snowden, Wells, Gilmore, Barbone, Mcbride and Vega, peaked interest based on their achievements this year. What matters is our support of each athlete listed and those that are not, POY is definitely an athlete that produced yards but yet remained a CATALYST of their respective team. But this alone should not be the only rule of margin. POY's performances against QUALITY opponents throughout the entire season should also
Read the blog and now my eyes needed band aids.
SD Fans,
My god, you have one good year and you want to put all your kids in the hall of fame...jeez, be proud and even thump your chest around town, buy your kids an extra present or two for xmas, but think outside the SD BOX...there are much better teams and talent in the SGV than our league... It is what it is. We are not a real strong league this year (look at the playoffs). Stats are misleading, heart is not. I give N. Barbone a lot of credit for continuing to fight against Oaks Christiank, he put himself in the upper half of football players in the SGV...With that being said, be honest and realistic, Oaks Christian beat your a.. and a lot of yards and scores came when the game was way out of reach. That doesn't discredit the heart showed by the team or Barbone, but it does negate the stats to a degree. It's like watching a basketball game and someone saying so and so is the best because he scored 35 pts. against someone, but they lost by 35 pts...do you think the OC first teamers were in the whole time and their intensity was there after being up by 30 pts? Please say no or you will prove my point. Gilmore was on another planet this season , esp. at the end of the year and just athletically, he's a beast, he'll be playing big time football in a couple years. If you saw any Wilson games, you'll appreciate what this guy did with a very average footballl team at best...I'd say 3 descent players were on that team and in the middle of the year, 3 of their lineman got hurt and the guys that filled in, bless their heart, had no business being on a varsity football field. Once again, no disrespect to SD, but this constant blogging and defending your team is not warranted. I and many others recognize your successful season, but you were CO-CHAMPIONS with a very average Northview team and Baldwin Park team that lost first round to Centenial Compton...Granted, you got a helluva draw in Oaks Christian, but moral victories are only celebrated by certain programs and I think you are looking like "one" of those programs. Good luck to you guys next year.
A couple of San Dimas High School names to consider...
Ryan Doll #62 San Dimas HS
Ryan is very athletic and runs well. A little undersized, but a great blocker for Barbone, Joseph, and Brown.
Cory Geer #54 San Dimas HS
Cory is also a little undersized, but runs great! He served as an excellent pulling guard all year and made a number of crutial blocks down the stretch.
Nico Barbone #44 San Dimas HS
Great running back, but maybe even better on defense. Strong and fast with a great motor.
Chris Pace #40 San Dimas HS
Not a giant guy, but plays hard on every play. Loves the game and seems pretty easy to coach.
Garrett Smith #70 San Dimas HS
A big guy that runs well. A solid blocker and likely as much up-side as any high school lineman in the SGV.
Bronze Withem #55 San Dimas HS
All over the place on defense. Loves to hit and did just that on special teams. This guy has a motor and a half and a real head for the ball.
Kyle Withem #43 San Dimas HS
A little taller than older brother Bronze but just as much motor. Loves to hit and plays with great passion.
Saint's football was especially fun to watch this year. I think they will really be something to watch next year.
CO CHARGERS at December 6, 2007 1:36 PM,
First topic going both ways. They went both ways as you stated.
Match up the numbers;
Gilmore 232 interception yards (17th in the Nation)
Gilmore 5 interception
When I looked at the defensive numbers none of these guys you mentioned poped up.
Now you bring up what did he do in league but don't count LA because they had a few kids hurt. Wells and Barbone played LA when they had the injuries what were their numbers. Did they score SIX touchdowns against LA? Second of all how did these other players fair in their league games against the elite teams. Now let’s factor in the offensive line that Gilmore was running behind. That line was the worse line in the league hands down. Gilmore would hit contact two, three yards behind the line of scrimmage against the elite teams. Where Wells, Barbone, McBride would have wholes to run through. I went to most of the Wilson games and I never saw the Wilson offensive line control the line of scrimmage. If anything you would expect Gilmores numbers to be low due to Wilson's offenses line. I will ask you this, what would Gilmore's numbers be if he ran behind the CO offensive line, Higher or Lower?
Anonymous at December 6, 2007 1:04 PM
Dont get upset but Wells and Barbone went both ways. Snowden was on special teams all year too! If your just going on stats, Chris Harris needs to enter the mix, but his league may be the worst of all.
All these kids are great players and its time to let Fred make his selections. Nobody will ever be happy! Watch this blog blow up in about two weeks. Hopefully Fred has big shoulders....
But, Gilmore numbers were average at best in league and DR, Bonita and CO stopped him in league. LA game, we'll they weren't full throttle and it could have been different.
Sometimes you have to look beyond just the stats.
Personally i think when MTC started calling the some of the GHS fans buton wearers is when the blog exploded. It was the talk all over the with the parents.
Don't get upset, just found some more information. No one else out their wants to pull up the facts. By the way, that was only the offensive side of the ball. Gilmore has numbers on the defensive side, and most of those guys didn't even play defense.
Mean Machine you have been around long enough to know that it wasn't as terrible as it is now. You were one of those guys who used to wrestle with some of those legends of this blog. Now it's just kids cussing at each other. Not only here on this thread but the whole blog has just come down to calling each other cuss names or body parts.
Aram would throw you guys a bone and you guys ran with it. You have to remember at that time the blog was in it's infancy. It was fun.
I will say the whole blog gathered steam over the end-zone celebration thread and it took off from there. It was just fun to read back then.
Enough about Gulmore quite bragging

Sorry Fred I no its getting old, put it is positive and no one has come close yet.

If the award is Most Valuable Player, no way it can go to anyone other than Gilmore.
Stop all the bashing please, I'm very close to just eliminating this thread entirely.
Chris, I agree with you. That comment was totally out of line. Hey Fred! There is a huge wrestling tournament at Amat this Friday and Saturday. Would be nice for some coverage to showcase some of the local talent that will be on hand.
Wow,
It's really bad when bloggers resort to bad mouthing players and their parents! Mr. and Mrs. Barbone are great parents. They're involved with their kids and constantly invest their time and energy to ensure their children have the best chance of succeeding. There are a good number of folks who could learn something from these dedicated and caring parents!
So, Mr. and Mrs. Barbone, keep up the good fight and rest assured the two or three idiots on this blog that take exception to your efforts have an opinion that really only matters to themselves. My son plays football with Nico and thinks the world of him! Nico and his brother are both fine young men and you have done a great job with them!
That being said, Nico would be a great player of the year. He worked hard and his team's success was largly due to Nico's efforts. Rock on Saints!
Gfhhfg that is low and hitting below the belt...I am a Amat parent and we know what Dorian did and why he did not end his playing days at Amat, but to come in here and tell the whole blog is dumb and insensitive. He made a teenage Mistake and most do including yourself, Amat has rules and they enforced them. Wells went on to have a good year at So. Hills. His fate and punishment was no Championship not that he would have got one at Amat this past season and not graduating with the class of 08 over at his beloved Amat, yes his parents love our school and players. This slam you wrote should not have any barring on his right to recieve player of the year. After all McD was no angel......enuf said.
I went through MaxPrep 07-08 football season, to the leaders catagory and found these numbers. A very interesting note I found only one kid from the area that had 24 more rushing yards than Tim, his name was Chris Harris from Duarte. Other than that no kid in this area was listed in the top 100 in any of the other catagories. I am not perfect, so I welcome anyone to research the numbers, they are posted on MaxPrep (www.maxprep.com).

Like all former players, bloggers tend to exaggerate the past. It was HORRIBLE!!!!! Fred has really made the blog fun and at times very informative. He's had a sleath hand in over seeing the blog and managing egos. This is not a slight at Aram other than an honest opinion. He was in over his head. Sorry Fred I'm sure Aram is a friend but even friends sometimes act like morons.
Maybe people will remember the caustic way Aram would deal with comments directed to him or about him. Talk about a baby. No I like Fred. Reminds me of a parent that "expects" his kids to conduct themselves accordingly. Again the "sleath" hand of authority. No sense arguing "back and forth" with a child.
They were not good old days anymore than we were all great athletes. Much like our knowledge of sports...time and experience has made us see the big picture better. For some it's about sports for others it's an agenda. Either way it's interesting to see "life" exposed for what it is...fleeting.
Mrs. Barbone, There will always be scumbags that find some disturbed pleasure in "mocking" parents, players or coaches. So what. Great job with your son. DON'T EVER APOLOGIZE FOR LOVING YOUR SON. By the way he's a STUD!
I've taken alot of heat in the past but this year was an eye opener for me. Just like in high school this place is about the assholes picking on the weak. Most will NEVER say to your face what they will write behind a screen name. Cowards have that genetic dispostion to hit and hide.
I pick "Dan from West Covina" as "Blogger of the Year" . Always a fan first! Always a positive West Covina supporter with class and integrity. And ultimately one of the few bloggers who will actually be even classier in person.
What do you say Fred....is Dan the Blogger of the Year?
Okay what I wouldn't give to see/hear Joe Amat, Randy, MTC, Plaid Lad, Big Daddy, Mr. Castaneda,Mr. Foss, SGV GURU, Colt, Amat 73, and a few others around a Pizza and beer fart feast discussing the past and the present state of sports! It would have been fun...too bad most chose to "HIDE" from each other. Have fun gentlemen. Give it some thought ...I'll buy.
Trojan Man if what you read here are legit gripes to you, then you are part of the problem not the solution. And what you posted speeaks for itself.
Fred:
You need to start registration ASAP. I agree with "So long Ago"
The blog is out of control, especially when you have individuals coming on and insulting programs, players, families and coaches.
Don't you think enough is enough? Is this what the blog is intended to be? Is this journalism at its best? Come on, time to make some changes.
It will be the first step in making this blog a better place to express some intelligent dialogue. Until then, as MTC would say...
I'm Out
This BLOG is STILL Good , with the exception of DavidBrownfromCTown & maybe a few others . I can say it MIGHT need a litlle fine tuning but for the most part we all have LEGIT gripes if & when we do start the arguing .Stop with the CRYINg , SACK UP . Don't like what it has become ...TO BAD ! Like the Crue sings ..."Don't Go Away Mad , Just GO AWAY. "

I have been away from the blog for a while now and I can say I have not missed much I can see. Has it really come down to this fella’s? With personal attacks, parents defending their kid’s, name calling, just playground immature crap.
I remember when the blog started with guys like Buck, Bleeds Blue & Gold, Living Legend, Joe Amat, MATMTWBG (sorry if that’s not right), Mike the Clone, Plaid Lad, Tartan Fan, Joe Colt, Dan, Randy, C.O. Bro. The banter between Aram and those guys are some of the things I remember and was really entertain by. I really stopped paying attention when the attacks on Anymouse continued.
None of you guys here stack up against any of those guys. In those days it was about each other sports. Not this childhood name calling that goes on here now.
Whether it be Randy and Mike the Clone going at it about end-zone celebrations or Joe Amat setting the someone straight about Amat, or The Legend becoming The Living Legend or vice versa it was a lot of fun to see what was going to be said next and it was addicting to watch those guys express their views.
Some of you here need to go back and read some of the classic postings by those guys from back in the day, none of it contained curse words or personal attacks on each other in fact those guys actually respected each other. You guys don’t respect each other and the words you spew are just, well its just crap.
A lot of you just need to grow up period because this blog just isn’t what it used to be.
OH NO ...Here we go AGAIN . Cuccia fans blogging about Walnut players . Nothing personal Walnut but did you guys WIN a game ? I remember QUITE a few teams putting up BIG numbers on you guys . Cuccia might have had some sucess in L.A. A LONG TIME AGO , but in this day & age , his team is mediocre @ BEST ! Best of luck to the Mustangs NEXT YEAR . Although I do remember a Walnut team having some sucess a few years back ...Right . Was DJ McKinnon's son on that team ..?? I remember hearing he was , but never heard from him after that ONE sucessful year . After careful consideration & being OVERWHELMED with Gilmores stats , Maybe he SHOULD be P.O.T.Y.
FIGHT ON
TM
Nobody is going to post stats because they won't match what Gilmore did. There is not one single player in the Valley that did what Gilmore did for Wilson. Seriously....ask yourself if there is really MORE he could of done as a football player. Offensively or defensively, the kid made huge plays for his team.
This is just a recognition award, this is not the BCS, this is not the Heisman Trophy. So what school you go to or what league your in should be irrelevant. You can't dismiss his accomplishments because his parents chose to reside in Hacienda Heights. That is completely out of his control.

ryan mcmahon without a doubt
and if u dont have him fred
your ridiculous
Viking fan, sorry to pick on you but you obviously didn't read my last paragraph. I don't think many in the VVL deserve any all valley consideration. There weren't that may great players. SD only has one, Barbone. It isn't about who beat who, but who was consistent. BP did shut down Barbone, but it was close to the end. Northview got run by SD and Barbone. But here is what matters, Barbone was unreal vs. Oaks Christian who would hammer any team in our area. I'm not saying player of the year but definetly 1st team back for Barbone. As for the other players I stated, the only players from the VVL who you can even think about are:
Shorts DL covina
Barbone RB SD
Bronze Withem LB SD
Rodriguez LB Northview
Witty and #66 OL BP
There are other better linemen around the area I'm sure. LB better than those two, I don't know. RB better than Barbone, questionable, only Gilmore is in his class. Shorts, is hands down the best DL in the area.
Enough talking SD. Get off the boards and keep your mouths shut now. You give them a bad rap. I know it is tough cause you want to talk, but stop it. Fred is smart, he was at plenty of games this year. He will do the right thing.

I am responding to your comments. I am not a blogger. Ever. I learned about this comment tonight from a gym member that came into my facility.
I have read the blog from time to time, and had decided long ago not to participate in the back and forth that goes on. I don't find it a productive way to spend my time. Plus, most of it falls to personal opinion anyway. All players deserve recognition, and wether it be my son or another outstanding player...credit should be given to them.
The only reason I did decide to post a comment was because it was a pointed attack at my husband and I. If I was promoting Nico to friends and family, I wasn't doing anything different from other people who were voting for their choice. We all know that those polls are public opinion only and don't hold any weight with Tribune decision making. It was just a proud mom sharing with friends. Harmless really. I certainly know there are other players out there who are outstanding.
This person hasn't come to me to tell me their feelings...instead they chose a public forum to try to insult me. I am not insulted. My friends know me and my intentions.
It was done with love for my son.
I am done blogging.
oh and mrs barbone your a great lady and u have a great son dont trip on what these losers say
just wanted to kno some thoughts about all area team for d fense

Mrs. Barbone,
Now that we have you on the blog,(Wow!)how often which to me seems frequently, do you read the blog? You being a proactive parent and your son constantly being mentioned good, bad, and indifferent, what is your opinion of this blog? And why are you wanting others to campaign for your son?
He is a junior, plays in the Valle Vista league, was beaten by Baldwin Park, lost in the first round, and plays for a team that until this year has a reputation of being bad coaches and teams. Your coach and record this year indicate maybe the rebuilding process is currently taking place but do you seriously feel your son deserves and has earned player of the year over Gilmore, Snowden, or Wells?
No one and I repeat no one decides one day that they are going to consider leaving their present school to transfer and play for San Dimas. You already proved this year that regardless of what you do the entire season you will be mediocre and a second tier program compared to well you already know their names I do not have to mention them again. Do you get what I am trying to say?
Hey SD Parent Dec. 5 6:26pm
This is Mrs. Barbone. If you were included in any email sent by me regarding votes for Nico, it was intended for friends and family who would want to rally for Nico and his performance. Considering your comments, it is clear you are indeed not a friend, and I will be glad to remove your name from my email list of friends and family.
We are not "rotten fruit fallen from the tree". What a horrible thing to say to us. You don't know the first thing about me if you make a statement like that. Face me and say it. Just because I sent out an email to my friends doesn't constitute me being rotten. And true friends would not consider my actions embarassing. I am not embarassed in the least. Our son did do an outstanding job for the Saints Football team this season.
So please email me back or let me know your name, so I can remove your from any email list that I have. I can assure you, I will never send another email of any kind to you.
I am and always will be a proud mom.
why is everyone hating on nico he is a good athlete whats ur deal

Wheres the love for Alex Bromstead I mean the guy never dropped the ball...never complained or anything he had 15 catches for 300 yards and like 7 touchdowns and was a key weapon in the South Hills offense this season...was undersized as a junior and really hit the weights in the off season...I admire the guy!!!!He deserves first team All-Area more then any of the TightEnds...I saw him work hard on and off the field this season a true team player!!!!

First, "douchebag" since we are talking about GPA...your namesake Dave Brown from C-Town is playing college athletics at Pomona College, you know...the Harvard of the West Coast, whose students have an average SAT of about 1400...yeah, the one that, from the sound of it, you would have NO chance to ever get into. Maybe that's why you're a bitter little prick.
I can't remember one positive contribution that you've EVER made to this blog - or come to think of it, EVER read you claim a particular allegiance to a school or program.
So until you have something worthwhile to write or want to offer something better from where you come from, maybe you should just douche yourself ... it is rather smelly in here when you're around!
who cares about gpa.... its the sgv. most of these 'student' athletes are just future employees of subway. the ones that do a little better might get a gig at tgifriday... so why worry about gpa.
gpa check? what the?
this is sgv you're talking about... aka the south central la of the east. most of these athletes are just going to end up banging my groceries and serving my double double. i think i might even have one ex athlete delievering pizza to my place right now. hope he doesn't come late again.

So what are you tring to say, we need to check your gpa before the award. Or if you go to a private shool you get extra credit, since you must be smarter than the average player. Why don't we have the final four take a spelling test to decide who the winner is.

Gilmore 1978 rushing yards
Gilmore 406 receiving yards
Gilmore 232 interception yards (17th in the Nation)
Gilmore 5 interception
GILMORE 174 POINTS
GILMORE 29 TOUCHDOWNS
Can any one match these numbers?
Could you image the numbers with a quality line?
If the award is Most Valuable Player, no way it can go to anyone other than Gilmore.
from the VVL, I have one nominee for the line and that would be William Vess, the only returning starter on that line, he was center for Mc D .when the colts went to the semi's two yrs in a row, the real anchor for the colts.

Fred,
My son played (actually watched from the bench most of the time) for the Saints this year. Nico is a tremendous young man. Highly motivated, polite, hard worker, and tremendous football player. His parents were at every game and it's safe to say that the apple did not fall far from the tree. They too are very polite and extremely supportive of Nico's football playing. The Saints had a great team this year. Their linebackers (the Witham brothers) were as good as any and the older of the too, Bronze, was truely outstanding. Their offensive line was fantastic. As pointed out earlier in this BLOG, Cory Geer and Garrett Smith were outstanding all year. By the way, Cory Geer is at least 6-2 and 200 lbs and Smith is 6-4 or even 6-5 and 220+. I've stood next to both of them and Smith is really tall. Barbone, the Witham brothers, Geer, and Smith all deserve a close look for any all area teams. Barbone should be the player of the year. He has put Saints football on the map, a map that has never had Saints football on it before. Which brings me to my final point - where would these boys be without Bill Zernikow? He is a great coach and an even better individual. He insists on strong personal conduct from his players and he leads by example. Like his players, he deserves a strong look for the Coach of the Year award.

Sometimes adults can learn from our kids..
Too bad some dont get it!
For those of you out there wondering why parents spend the dough they do to send kids to a private HS, (I mean, you know, besides the guaranteed championship ring and D1 schollie), here you go.

Dear H Man:
First of all, I would to congratulate NICO on a great season. I am a proud Damien Student/Athlete and football player for the Spartans. I have known this family now for about six years, as I am a member of their fitness facility. I recently participated in Jimmy Nolan Speed Camps for the past year which I learned about through them.
I have learned a lot about how to better use my feet and speed thru these camps. One thing that has really helped me was competing against NICO. You see, he made me better because of his unbelievable work ethic and talent.
I would suggest to you, that before you make dumb comments about his Mom, maybe you should get to know them or NICO. It’s easy to pass judgment on a blog.
Have a Happy Holiday Season and God Bless you!
Go Spartans
PS: FRED, since you asked for nominations, my vote goes to Nico.”
Geez, this kid write better than Robledo.
Just kidding Freddie ;)
"Damian Spartan"
Thank you for that wonderful post. Do you expect us to believe a word of it? I rest my case your honor..
I would like to see Hernandez get it too. All too often the award goes to the CO guy or the South Hills guy or some guy from a big program. But they have a little more to work with. As a resident of La Puente I was really disappointed to see Ward never get honored for all the success they had. I also was disappointed that Smolin did not get honored at Bassett or (please don't hate me) Crutchfield in 2006. These guys have so many other hurdles to clear before they even hit the field that it is a daunting task. The same goes for Hernandez. if you do not feel that LP went far enough into the playoffs to garner recognition and you don't see this as a symbol for some of the other coaches who did really good things at some of these lower profile schools over the years then my next choice would have to be Pasquarella. Mainly because Glendora has not been much of anything for 10-15 years.
So McD is NOT playing ? I thought I read he WAS somewhere ...Fullerton or Somewhere.I NEVER saw him play , but did Covina WIN a title with him ? The CHS bloggers should GET over it . I DID see quite a few games this season & have to say the CO back was pretty good . Jake Vega was SOLID for GHS & the TE # 10 @ GHS will be a STUD in the years to come . HE WAS ONLY A FRESHMAN !!!
FIGHT ON

I think next years football seasin is going to be the best yet for Bishop Amat. I think they will be the best in the SGv
DO NOT FORGET ABOUT ANDREW ROMERO #84, WILSON...
1000 YDS, RECEIVING + 10 TOUCHDOWNS.....
THIS KID HAS TO BE, IF NOT THE TOP, TOP 3 RECEIVERS IN THE VALLEY.....
HE IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH RECOGNITION.....
Mcd is gone, done and didn't have the grades or talent for the next level.
OK So Mc D was a good one . WHERE IS HE NOW ? I hear he QUIT Football .Am I wrong ?
Does not matter who they pick as the POY....This player could not carry McD's jock. Point me out a player this year that was as rock solid as Mikey last year...there are none.
Big Reg:
Do you ahve a list of recommendations?
Fred,
Please give Barbone POY, so his mom will stop this endless promoting.
to #1 fan,
as i stated, my vote was biased towards shhs. and its apparent they don't teach remedial spelling at wesco. yes, i was greedy, but not "GREETY" as you said! but we could me meet, so i could greet you properly.
anyway, i wish to add to my list of players. acevedo from b.p. was spectatular for that team, he deserves some recognition. and drew annas fron s.d., great player on deffense, should have had more chances on offense, and, the fastest player in the valley, hands down!
as for tucker, shhs shut him down! yeah we let the gymnist run around on us abit! and, we'll see him for a couple more years. hope we're not afraid to rack him up next year! lol, mrlippy out!
to Truth -
I don't know about Barbone's speed. I watched him outrun a lot of defenders this year. For his size (I think he's around 190 lbs or so), he runs really well. And he hits like a mule kicks. So, there is nothing sad about that. As far as Geer and Smith go, Geer is definitely undersized, but Smith has got to be more than 207 lbs. Granted, he might not be the 245 lbs. advertised in the SD program I saw, but there is no way he is only 207 lbs. If he is 207 lbs., he's the biggest 207 lbs. I've ever seen and at 207 he pushed some really big guys all over the place. Back to Barbone, I'm certain he's not the fastet guy in the SGV by a long way, but he runs down hill in a big way. I've seen some highlight film of him knocking the crap out of people. On top of that he plays a great safety and is as likely to be a defensive back in D1 as a running back. Finally, Charles Shorts is a really rare combination of size, quickness, strength, and speed. So my picks stay the same - Smith OL, Barbone RB (POY), and Shorts DL (POY).
Dear DL Dawg,
Your assesment is true, but here are the sad true facts:
#70 Smith 6'3 207
#54 Geer 6'2 197
#44 Barbone 4.7 forty at best
The honest truth is the team played as a team.
To: Who Cares
I was just about to hit the 'post' button when your post came up. I agree with three of your four players. I think Shorts, Smith, and Barbone should be 1st team picks. Shorts was very goood and Barbone's stats speak for themselves. Smith is fun to watch running down field and I think he's a lower classman, so we'll get to see him a few more years. However, Geer was completely undersized to play on the line and despite his big heart, was knocked around in the San Dimas games I watched (which was only a few to be honest). Finally, I think Shorts deserves as much attention for POY as Barbone. Shorts made offensive lines change their game plans, but then again Barbone made defensive lines do the same thing. They are both great.
Barbone this and Barbone that. He is the POY, there really is no doubt. However, how about the guys he ran behind all year. San Dimas has #54 Cory Geer and #70 Garrett Smith on their offensive line and they played all year as well as any two offensive linemen. They both run great (especially Geer) and at 230 or 240 pounds, Smith absolutely dominated a number of larger DL guys. In the game against Oaks Christian, Geer ran in front of Barbone start to finish and Smith crushed several of their giant DL players. Finally, Shorts (#31) from Covina was awesome to watch. He is super quick and strong, despite a temper! He hits hard and loves to play the game. So here are three guys that warrant 1st team honors:
DL - Charles Shorts #31 - Covina HS
OL - Cory Geer #54 - San Dimas HS
OL - Garrett Smith #70 - San Dimas HS
player of the year: Nico Barbone, San Dimas
why?
Nico lines up 3 yards behind the QB every play with no lead blocker. He still gets over 1700 yards. Every carry he's breaking 3-4 tackles, carrying 2-3 guys on his back, and the whole defense knows he's getting the ball. Yet, he finds a way to crush his opponents as he leads San Dimas to one of their best years in a long time. No other back could take such a beating and stay healthy all year. In addtion, he is their top defensive player leading the defense at free safety...if we're talking "overall" top player of the year, Nico barbone is second to none. I wish he'd transfer so we could see him use that speed in a normal offense...senior year is going to be big-time.
The defense gets less respect, but it wins ballgames. Just ask CO, GT & SH. The 3 top teams in the valley and they had arguably the 3 best and most experienced defenses. Here's my valley list:
DL - Umodu, Bonilla, Bowdry/Kovar, Austin
LB - Kuklinski, Young, Padilla, Niles
DB - Wells, Crespo, Beckwith, Counce
Cogburn Should Be On Here For Sure Look He Had 1500 Yards Recieving Over 20 TD's and Most Of The Time Was Triple Covered Doesnt Get Any Better
if u were at the wilson charter oak game you would of never known there was 2 POY canidates on the field...snowden was dominate...if we were voting for the hiesman this would be taken into strong consideration
wow thank god we dont let kids and parents vote for the all valley team hahahaha this is comedy!
ok my turn
qb- the kid from ganesha can really sling it
rb- the azusa guy...hands down
wr- bassets starting x and z...take your pick
ol- i dont know if anyone did it better then garey
as for defense just give me all 11 from walnut
I want to nominate Bobby Boucher!
I love mama!
ALL VALLEY
POY=Gilmore
COY=Bogan
QB=DEEN
RB=GILMORE
WR=MIKEY HARRELL

OL=UMODU
DL=UMODU
DB=COUNCE
P=BROWN(LA)
K=BROWN (HIT A 45 EASILY AT DIAMOND RANCH AND PERFECT ON THE YEAR)
Not to trash any of these guys Fred, but if you put O-lineman like Rod Arrant, John Earnest, and Michael Valdez on the all tribune team, you have to put Chima Ike(DT/NT/ILB) from Walnut on the SGV Team, because he dominated each of those guys individually.

chad young is good but not best in valley sry the boys at SD are better whitems i think i seen these kids play they live and breathe football !!!first teamn no doubt
1st team all defense no doubter:
C-Young, 135 tack, 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, a million forced fumbles...and simply a beast.
I nominate Harris for POY. Harris is the leading rusher and scorer in the SGV. His offensive stats are impressive. He also had good numbers on defense.
Second thought to consider. If by chance TH beats ElDo then the best team, even though they lost by a greater margin, would have to point toward CO. With CO capturing POY (Snowden).
Let's fast forward to next week. Based on week three of the CIF Playoff's we are now looking at ElDo vs TH. This should produce a great finish as to who is the best in their respective division. As we all know CO lost to TH. We also know that ElDo beat SH. If we are to look at each margin of competition and examine the degree of loss endured by both teams, the outcome is that CO obviously lost by a greater margin. SH on the other hand also lost but their margin of loss was much closer in relation to a better competitive output. Now, if ElDo beats TH this weekend to take the crown the better loss (if it existed) would be SH since they were able to stay toe 2 toe with ElDo to the bitter end. Based on this concoction SH would win any vote from me that they are the number one team in all SGV. Hence, their athletes deserve to be recognized as the valley's best. POY should be easy to pick with this in mind.
WHO CAN PICK THE ALL AREA TEAM BESIDES HONEST PEOPLE. SO LEAVE IT UP TO THE WRITERS AND COACHES. YOU HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS ARE OBVIOUSLY GONNA VOTE FOR YOUR TEAM MATES SO TO BE UNBIASED LET THE STATS DO THE TALKING. AT EVERY POSITION ITS A CLOSE RACE WITH EXCEPTIONAL TALENT IN THE VALLEY. TO BE HONEST THE ONLY PLAYER THAT IS A STAND OUT STATISTICALLY IS SOUTH HILLS K/P MACIAS. EVERYONE ELSE PUT UP GREAT STATS BUT ITS TOO CLOSE TO CHOOSE JUST ONE.
605 Fan,
I'm a Northview Guy and I'll be straight up...you're right, Northview only has Rodriguez that should garner some sorta all valley attention and the skill guys are not very tough. With that being said, you now need to be straight up and honest...One, Barbone is a good gutty player, but Player of The Year? Come on, the coaches didn't vote him Player of the Year in their own league!!! Get off his nuts alredy. Also, you name all these Saints for All Valley and I can't say much to you about SD/NV game, you ran us that night, but you guys got BEAT by BP, which we beat, so what does one game prove? It proves to an objective Valle Vista League Fan like myself that WE (Northview, San Dimas, and BP) don't have too many all valley caliber players. We just don't. Gotta be a fan, but also gotta be honest 605 fan...perhaps the exhaust from the big rigs on the 605 have clouded your thought process.
Anonymous, using my theory who else but Wells fits that picture?
POY opinion at December 4, 2007 4:56 PM
This may hold true in the San Antonio league because you really only have to beat WC
COY is often understood as a person that taught and motivated his athletes to achieve in the face of competitive diversities. So, naturally a bias opinion of coaches that would be examined and placed into this category might reflect each head coach the blew a whistle this year. To be more definitive, there are few coaches that fit this image if we are to be FAIR and HONEST with each of our assessments. When making this critical decision one should think more in the line of "He who did more with less..and ultimately achieved success." If one coach defines this image we would have to honor Coach Hernandez as COY.
POY should go to an athlete that not only achieved yards yielded while playing the regular season but also contributed to his teams ability to EXTEND their performance while competing in the CIF Play-offs. Those teams that barely made the play off picture by a small margin of league victories should NOT be considered in the POY selection process. Additionally, the CIF deals each team that captures a "League Champ" title the most awards honoring those athletes that achieved that merit. If we are to mirror that process the SGV selection for POY is simple. (SH-Wells)
Hands down....coach of the year...Ray Heranadez..
he turned nothing into something...No one thought he could win any games after going 2-8 last year.
Look at them now...undeated league champs!..I know it sounds wierd but they did it. They went
against all odds. Everytime they would play someone Fred would of always choose the other team. And that unbelievable game against duarte.
Everyone thought tthey would of got blown 49-0 but
when the game was finished they were on top.......
.....
SO MY CHOICE HERNANDEZ!
What about Daniel Limon? He was I believe 2nd in state in receiving yards! That's right! 2nd!
ask the coaches they grade all the players every week, they are really the only one's that really know who deserves what, they vote for all league so why not this .
bean counter at December 4, 2007 11:36 AM
Call the school bean counter and talk to admissions.
Who cares, only Amat guys do!
It comes down to Snowden, Wells, Gilmore or Barbone. one of them will get it. There is no McD here but this what you have to choose from. Bryce McBride look to be it until he went down with a injury
Coach of the year: Farr or Bogan They got to the Semi's.... Darkhorses: Pasqy and Oveido.
Jackass Coach of the year: Crutchfield Duarte and Rowdy Roddy Layton Diamond Ranch.
Want to know how good the Damien program is under Scott Morrison? No Damien players are in the discussion for ALL AREA. Except for Miller the kicker. How do you like them apples? I can not think of a single player that suits up in green and gold that didn't have a better player or two at another school. Wells, Zytra, Barbone, Garay, Rodriguez. Contreras, Mc Bride, Horn, Kovar, Baca, ect, ect ect. Damien has no awesome players ...just awesome zealots. Did someone say Dorrell? Actually Dorrel, as over matchjed as he was has a better record than Morrison. The only difference being Damein players have been healthy over those years while Dorrell's last teams have the injury-itis.
anonymous you have no idea what ur talkin about and that y u put anonymous everybody and there moms kno that the withem boys are best in the valley hands down you chad young reminds me of sd #3 just bigger
chad young easliy the best linebacker in the valley the guys is a beast he benches 340 and squats over 600. he had around 135 tackles 2 interceptions 4 sacks and a few forced fumbles. this kid should be a first team sgv choice

TO MRLIPPY WHO POSTED AT 10:15 DEC 4. YOU JUST ABOUT LISTED ALL OF SOUTH HILLS FOOTBALL TEAM, DONT BE SO GREETY.
MY PICK WOULD BE I. TUCKER #20 FROM WEST COVINA.
TO ANY SOUTH HILLS BLOGGERS, SO WHAT HAPPEN TO #45 WHO BUSTED HIS HEAD OPEN WHEN HE HEAD BUTTED HIS OWN TEAM MATE WITH NO HELMET AFTER THE INTERCEPTION. I SAW HIS FATHER OR GRANDFATHER ON THE SIDE JUST SHAKING HIS HEAD IN DISCUSS.. I EVEN NOTICE BOGAN DIDNT EVEN TALK TO HIM #45 FOR DOING THAT. ALSO I SAW #88 WHO WAS WIDE OPEN IN THE END ZONE IN OVER TIME THROWING HIS HELMATE AND SHOULDER PADS ALL OVER THE FEILD AND DIDNT EVEN SHAKE HANDS WITH EL DORADO AFTER THE GAME NO CLASS... BUT ANY WAYS THATS MY PICK #20 TUCKER....
#81 from Amat's name is Julian Silva.
Fred...
Here are my picks...
LB - Bronze Witham - San Dimas
LB - Kyle Witham - San Dimas
TE - Name Unknown (#81) - Bishop Amat
OL - Rod Arrant - Covina
OL - Garrett Smith - San Dimas
OL - Robert Diaz - Northview
DL - Charles Shorts - Covina (POY Candidate also)
DL - Chris Pace - San Dimas
RB - Niko Barbone - San Dimas(POU Candidate also)
DB - Ben Counce - Charter Oaks
S - Zylstra - Bonita
This is my 2 cents worth. A lot of good players from the SGV this year and this will be an interesting all area team when it's all done!
Coach of the Year: easily La Puente coach Ray Hernandez.
Player of the Year: Tough choice, many are deserving. But short list for consideration is Gilmore, Harris, Garay, Barbone, Wells, and Snowden. My choice is co-players for Harris of Duarte and Gilmore of Wilson. Statistically, they are even and both teams were playoff bound.
OG Amat,
I agree 100% with you... Amat's TE (#81) was special all year. He has great tools (hands, speed, size) and he was truely a bright spot for BA in an otherwise tuff season. He would make an excellent all area TE! Rock on Saints!
I spoke with the principle from San Dimas High School on the sidelines during a game (the Smudge Pot) and she said San Dimas had 1445 students enrolled... For whatever that is worth. The issue I have is simple... if Bishop Amat only had 25 students enrolled, at least 11 of them would be top notch (and recruited) football players. They are just like Oaks Christian. They can say what they want, it isn't a flat playing field. Rock on Saints!
The only nominees I feel we have are:
LB - Gelalich who had 123 tackles
S - Zylstra 91 tackles
TE - Zylstra 425 yards, 28 catches and 7 TD's; no TE has those kind of numbers.
P.O.Y Gilmore without this guy they do not beat Los Altos and Mayfair this guy was a human highlight film and did all this at one of the middle tier schools in the San Gabriel Valley
C.O.Y Bogan from South Hills because they lost early and rebounded and should of been in the Finals.
P.O.Y Gilmore, without this guy Wilson does not knock of Los Altos and Mayair. Seen this guy in person and he has the speed and did all this at one of the less San Gabiel Valley School
SD Alum, did you count? JA listed a source that sounded pretty reputable. What was yours?
I count 10 POY from Los Altos
'72 Hertel
'73 Sproul
'81 Smith and Lauter
'82 Smith
'88 Martin
'00 Aguilar
'02 Drayton and Brown
'03 Harwell
IMO, The tight end #81 from Amat did a great job this year. He hasn't gotten the credit he deserves. I believe he is as good or better than anyone in the valley.

I went to Max Preps and looked at stats. I saw some of the top teams play and have seen Amat a little more than anyone else and was impressed with Price all summer and in season.
Is All-Valley an All Star team or a reward for winning teams? I would have redone my team if it is an All-Star because I left some great athletes off of it.
Does sierra vista play all double wing teams? They have a player with over 200 tackles and four with over a hundred.

first of all, congratulations to all our sgv teams. the dynamics have changed alot since i played varsity in '79 and '80. bottom line, we are still very, very competetive w/ most anyone. i would love to see a few of us take on a some of those i-15 teams in the future!

SD Alum,
The 2006/2007 enrollment reported to the State of California (which schools are required to accurately do to get State funding) list San Dimas at 1490. That's according to the California Department of Education's Educational Demographics Office with CBEDS that were reported on 5/14/07.
If the SD alumni office has issued you more recent or accurate data, please share the source. Now if you are talking about the ADA (Average Daily Attendence) that may be accurate, but does not reflect *total enrollment*
The Saints had several great players this year. Not just Barbone. I think Barbone should get strong consideration for POY, but #55 Bronze Witham has to be a first team linebacker as does his brother #43 Kyle Witham. They were involved in nearly every play on the defensive side of the ball. And don't forget, while Barbone was reeling off the yards on offense, he played an excellent safety. Additionally, #70 Garrett Smith did a solid job all year on the offensive line and #40 Chris Pace was strong on both sides of the ball. Finally, Coach Zernikow was outstanding all year. He was great with the kids, and despite a lack of talent in a number of positions, his team shared the title. I'm a Saint Fan (if you couldn't tell!), but I think the above mentioned players deserve at least a hard look. They played great and made for the best season of San Dimas football in recent memory! Rock on Saints!
bishop amat has 9 Mckay and Haden. That's two right there.
Joe Amat at December 4, 2007 9:41 AM
Your numbers at SD are wrong. Total enrollment is 1365.
Lets dont get into a private school vs. public school debate. This is not want Fred is looking for.
Hey players from, So. Hills, Nogales, Rowland, Walnut, West Covina, Baldwin Park, San Dimas, Bonita, Transfer to AMAT to play football next year. This is year they turn it around. Be a part of it.
glaster had a pretty quiet season. im lookin the the co db's
glaster should not be an all area corner his season was pretty quiet. im lookin at the co db's
hope you guys are lookin at stats for the all area team.
Pursuant to Fred's request, I don't think this is the time to bash programs, coaches or players.
He is asking for NOMINATIONS.
Try to keep it that way!
Merry Christmas......
It always make me chuckle when people talk about "small schools". I wonder if it is enrollment that they are referring to...or something else? Maybe expectations?
San Dimas has 1490 students. Is that small? Other "small schools" like South El Monte with 1527, Northview with 1533. Covina has 1606, and La Puente has 1806. Or Baldwin Park, who some think of as a "small school" has 2379.
Poor little bishop amat only has 1520 !:?)
With one win, Walnut players should not even be considered. They were horrible last year , they were horrible this year and they will be horrible next year. There is nothing over there at Walnut but a solid girls Tennis team. Demographics show that Walnut is 80% asian, how the heck are you going to field a football team that way? Dont even get me started on their baseball team, the boys sports over there are the worst. The girls teams are what makes that school. 0-10 next year for that Walnut team...they really need a new coaching system the present coaching staff at Walnut for Football and baseball is pathetic. Change is needed to turn that program around.
Fred:
I would like to recommend three coaches to consider for COY
Coach Bogan: Had a great year and took his team to Semi, but had alot of talent with him. This guy just keeps rolling along and is a true class act. And what's interesting, school size isn't all that big compared to others in his league!
Coach Hernandez: Great job leading his troops to league title. I do believe he had good players around him. Qb close to 1000 yards, two RB rolled up 1500 yards and 14 td's. So to say, there wasnt talent, dont quite by that.
Coach Z: Another fine job by leading his team to shared title. Its was interesting to learn about seniors 0-10, and how program is turnig around. That's coaching within a small school. Sure, this coach had some great talent too.
Did anyone see Barbone in the playoffs vs. Oaks Christian? Unreal. Rushed for over 100 yards and almost had 100 receiving. Oaks would give El Dorado and those OC schools a run for their money. Probably beat them. Good job putting 27 points on them SD. Zernickow should be considered for COY, if not Hernandez from LP. No one else did more with so little. SD had one player and somehow the team won 9 games, not bad.
The best performer for the Tartans this year was far and away the beast, CHAD YOUNG.He should be a definite choice along with the "K" kid from South Hills. Those two are monsters.
Fred what is this? This is just Valley Vista people responding? Joke. Barbone is tough. Covina Player, come on, the guy rushed for 185 against you guys and trucked most of you. To V.V.L. guy, you too are a clown. Obviously you are a Northview guy. Your lines where terrible. The only guy worth a nickle is Rodriguez. The skill guys are sissies. San Dimas Pounded you guys, so go home. BP has the best line in the area. Shorts from Covina is the best DL around.
Barbone, Withem, Rodriguez, and Shorts should be the only guys considered for All Valley. Now get the rest of the bunch from CO, Damien, and Glendora. Everyone knows Damien's line is huge and good.
FYI Ray Hernandez was a STUD player @ RHS . He was ALL MVL @ least twice & possibly lineman of the year in the MVL in the Ealry 90's . He was Center for Matt Koffler , and played D-Line too . What he did @ La Puente this past year was a MIRACLE , he made the players BELIEVE in themselves & his program SHINED ! Best of luck to The La Puente Warriors , and the continued WINNING attitude Ray Hernandez has brought to that program . HE WITHOUT A DOUBT is the SGV Tribune COY !
FIGHT ON
TM
Fred:
How does these awards get decided? Is there a group within the tribune that vote or do you talk with others like Big Reg outside the Tribune too?
Richard Gurrolla from Gladstone should be considered
POY Nico Barbone
LB- Bronze & Kyle Withem, The Bash Brothers made San Dimas defense a wall.
Hello Fred:
It’s going to be a tuff job selecting these awards….
I would like to nominate two players for consideration for POY. Tim Gilmore and Nico Barbone. Both of there stats were very impressive, but stats alone just didn’t justify my thoughts of these two kids.
Where would Wilson or San Dimas be without these players? These kids were the catalyst of their teams and everything they did on the field helped advance their teams success and brought notoriety to their respective programs. One can argue schedule from either team, but both crushed the weaker teams with stats and both had great games against some really top ranked opponents during the playoffs and performed very well in league.
The larger schools appear to have many more athletes on a field, and the smaller schools rely on guys like Barbone and Gilmore to carry a bigger load. It’s pretty impressive to see what these players have done this year. They both brought a lot of excitement to the valley and not to mention they are both two way players with good defensive numbers too!
Other Selections:
LB: Chad Young/Broze Withem, Kuklinski
QB: Cameron Deen or Jose Garay
WR: Tommy Coburn, Parham
RB: Snowden,Barbone, or Gilmore. One of these guys is POY
DB: Edwards,Glaster
TE: Tanner from Bonita
COY: Bogan
Good Luck Fred, you’re going to need it!
By the way, there were a lot of people who were talking negatively about Coach Hernandez when he was hired to take over the football program at La Puente. I remember reading posts that eluded to the AD's lack of intellect by hiring him and people making pretty harsh judgements about the coach, like "no heart" and "he's probably never played football before," and other similar type comments. I believe it was during this blog's early moments, about 2 years ago.
I would love to hear from those folks now...
Good Luck in the offseason, Warriors!
Joe Amat & Joe Colt,
It would be biased if I said that Coach Hernandez should be the Coach of the Year. It's good to hear that both of you (and others) at least recognize the accomplishment, not for only the school, but the entire community.
Now, only if we had the "players" that you mention, maybe we could have accomplished more this year. From what I saw, and if I was in a position to choose, I don't know if I would trade LP players for anyone else. Those guys this past season showed more heart that I've seen in a very long time at LP.
More "talented" players would be nice........
ANDREW ROMERO FROM WILSON!
he performed when it mattered look at the stats
1000 yard reciever 10+ tds. there is no better reciever then this guy. if so let me know?
Oh yea don forget about Jared Iloilo, Kyle Jordan and Matt Carriaga........playmakers!!!!!!!!!
if you want to look at walnut mustangs defense, some of them great individual stats.... EXample, Chima Ike had close to 40 tackles in san antonio league play alone.
lafan at December 3, 2007 9:34 PM
Same old talk from LA. If Oaks Christian could hold him under 100 and 250 all purpose, don't think you guys can. LA you are, Oaks your not.
Good Luck, not many have held Barbone under 100 for tha last two years!
AY dont sleep on the Walnut mustangs they have some great individual players on defense
I know walnut did not have a great season but some players like Chima Ike(DL), Jared Iloilo(ILB),David Acevedo(LB), Matt Carriaga(DB/S) Kyle Jordan(DL) and Kevin Sarekhani(OLB)
Does it really matter no team made it to the finals, fred no matter who you pick it won't be right so don't bother or to make it fair just go look at stats and good luck with the mvp no one was really that great this year a weak year to say the least no undefeated teams.
nominations for all valley.
db- eric glaster- basically came up bid when needed. A cover corner who gave up not to many yards.
lb- damon kuklinski- strong tough player with crazy intensity. made many tackles!
dl- kebin umodu- dominating force on the line
with intelligence. could have used him in the el dorado game though.
ol- john earnest- one of the strongest lineman in the area with some speed and ball carrying ability?!?!?!
rb- dorian wells- cant deny his stats or vision. an all area mvp candidate.
te-alex bromstead- receiving end with great hands and strenght. stat leader at the te position.
wr- brandon parham- all around athlete. corners couldnt handle his size or strength.
p- elijah macias- kid has a boot! not to mention 3rd highest avg. in the country.
SPENCER STUEVE OLB at DR did it all
KYLE LENGYEL LB at DR Final ststs were never entered but led his team in tackles. Already being recruited by PAC 10 schools and Notre Dame and he is only a junior
SHELTON MILES SS at DR Already has Division 1 offers
CHARLES CISNEROS OL at DR strongest player in the area. Check all combine scores.
BRYAN BONILLA DE at DR had over 80 tackles and 13 QB sacks. He is only a junior
BRIAN SPIRLIN RB at DR average over a 100 yards a game aginst So Cals best schools. He is only a junior
For a highly rated school all year don't punish the players more. A lot of the DR players are worthy of this distinction.
Sorry, the Aints had a great year in 2007 and coach z should be coy, but we will be ready for you week zero! Los Altos 42, San Dimas 10. Nico held for under 100yards! At least we can't knock your schedule next year! LOL!
u gotta be kidding if ur telling me shorts is the only legit player from covina. they had gutierez, tucker, daniels, montez. they had talent over there. coaches had a down year
how could i forget my boy Alex "hands of glue" Broomstead...had what 3 drops all year...owned d ends...had sometouchdowns...not thrown to a lot but helped the team A LOT!
TE- Alex Broomstead
how could i forget my boy Alex "hands of glue" Broomstead...had what 3 drops all year...owned d ends...had sometouchdowns...not thrown to a lot but helped the team A LOT!
TE- Alex Broomstead
i think even though Ray Rodriguez got hurt i still think he should make the team
or you can also pick the south hills tight end he was good as well
SD linebacking crew is best hands down
db- Eric Glaster...best corner around...aloowed 1 or 2 catches all season...not a lot of picks but made up for it by his cover skills
dl- kebin umodu...one of the best d ends around...made plays last year only going one way...made same amount of plays goin both ways this year...injured so didnt play against el do
ol-John earnest....poor kid doesnt have the size to go anywhere but is strong smart and the best ol in the area
lb-Damon Kuklinski....played amazingly through injuries and still did great...
wr- brandon parham...simple no one can guard him...except maybe Glaster
rb- Wells...one word...STATS...
p- Elijah Macias...1st in Ca fer awhile 2nd now....blasted the ball everytime
thats about all i got...rest is up to u
guess what next year is bringin undefeated saints

I find it hard to understand how even the average Joe (no pun intended) cannot see how it is impossible to compare statistics, especially tackles. So much depends on the type of team and the scheme that the team plays.
Examples:
If a linebacker plays on a team that forces alot of "3 & outs" he only has THREE chances to make a tackle on that possession. If another team gives up long 15 play drives - there are many more tackle opportunities. An "average" linebacker on that team may get more tackles than a great 'backer on the 3&out team.
Maybe the pass defense on a players team is so bad that more teams throw against them and there are not as many opportunities. Or vice versa. The team could give up big plays for touchdowns-again shortening the number of plays. Or the team may have a great punter and force the opponent deep in there own territory versus the team that turns the ball over and gives the offense a short field.
It's like saying the kid in basketball that plays the whole game on a bad team and scores 12 pts is better than the kid on a better team that plays a quarter and only scores 6. (sorry to some of you - that requires some math)
You can't compare the two.
Again, there are "Lies, Damn lies, and Statistics !!!"
Night in and night out you men do nothing but verbally abuse one another from behind a blog. You really sound pathetic. I am personally and professionally from O.C. and if you check our blog on OCVARSITY.COM you would never hear any one of us behave like you each do to each other. I invite you to blog on our website and learn the proper etiquette of blogging! Why does someone allow a blog like this to exist because truthfully you are humiliating your programs but more importantly your families!
FAN OF THE YEAR,
I believe in pulling for my guy but why do you make up lies. We all sat at the south end on the visitors side. This is why the blog should go away.
just realized that bronz withem if thats how you spell it leads the area in tackles over everyone ive seen this guy he is legit anybody at the oaks christian game seen his hit
Joe Amat,
Couldnt have said it better, La Puente wasnt expected to go anywhere let alone beat a very formidable (If not Dysfunctional) Duarte...
Hernandez took lemons and made lemonade so to speak...
The other guys were supposed to win, go back to pre season blogs and take a peek...
But as far as LP went... Nada, Zip, Zero, Bottom of the barrell... Yet Hernandez won league without a single marquee player...
How? Without a Wells, Gilmore, Barbone, Mcbride et al...
Simple.... He is a great coach without a great cast of characters...
Hence he is in my honest opinion... SGV Coach of the Year...
Joe Colt
I think that if someone wins it all, COY should be theirs. SH & CO went the farthest, but didn't win it. That brings them back to the pack... a little.
That being said, If I told you that CO and SH was going to win their league and get in the semi-finals, you might think, "That's about right". So those Farrar and Bogan did about what they should have done - no more, no less.
Now are they the two best in the valley? Probably...with Gano & Pasquy coming around the corner (if not knocking at the door).
Maggiore squeaking into the playoffs and pulling an upset wit ha young team - nice accomplishment.
Baldwin Park knocking off San Dimas after a week of Saints 6-0 chest-thumping, after SD beat Northview...only to have BP step in it against the Vikings (after a week of trash talk of their own) neutralizes the Valle Vista crew.
That leaves the biggest surprise, and therefore the best "coaching" performance - Ray Hernandez, from La Puente.Yes, the one who would knock off the man who had the following exchange,
"...We're the best team in the valley," Crutchfield said. Come again? I stopped him right there just to make sure I heard correctly. You mean the Montview right, or were you talking about the Mid-Valley Division? "I'm telling you we're the best team in the San Gabriel Valley," said the serious-toned coach. I had to ask again ... Over South Hills, Los Altos, Glendora, Charter Oak, Amat and all those teams? "That's what I'm saying," Crutchfield said. "You'll see. Just keep on doubting us."
Well, that provided us with some fun and fodder, but it also magnifies the La Puente achievement. So that puts Hernandez at the top of the heap when it comes to Coach of the Year candidates. If anyone said that LP was going to win the Montview after a 2-8 season last year I would have thought that they were crazy. But they did...and that's what makes him deserving. His team achieved FAR more than anyone outside of his locker room honestly believed that they would achieve.
Congrats to Coach Hernandez !
ONE OF WITHEM BOYS ARE THE BEST LINEBACKERS THE STATS DONT LIE CHECK EM OUT IF ONE OF THEM AINT PICKED U GUYS ARE CRAZY
man linbacker best in the valley withem boys at san dimas if u dont think so obviosly u dnt kno football that young fool aint got nothing on these boys oh and hands down player of year is nico
Joe Colt,
It's obvious that I am being somewhat of a homer, but I wouldn't be nominating him if I didn't think the things that Coach Z and his staff have done for this program have been awesome. He has been able to get the best done for a program that does not always support their head coach. Just look at how much people bad mouthed him when SD lost to BP.
Not only does he do a good job with X's and O's, but he also really cares about his players and makes a difference in their lives. That's not to take away what others do because I know that Hernandez from La Puente has a lot more kids in tough situation than Coach Z does. People at San Dimas are actually excited about football at San Dimas.
In addition, Coach Z has some young coaches (Mark Holman O coordinator, Doug Kappen QB coach) underneath him who are going to make great head coaches one day and that is because of coach Z.
Covina Player,
If you think Nico didn't play against anyone, ask the Oaks Christian players and coaches what they thought of him. He showed how tough of a kid he really is playing against the defending state champs. Yes BP schemed to stop Nico and did that, but they were the only ones to do so. Not even Oaks could contain him
COY= Coach Hernandez for his ability make good use out of what his school district dealt him. A true sign of a good coach is his/her ability to educate, motivate, and accelerate his players when it counts most.
POY= SH's Wells hands down. Great athlete and sportsman on and off the field. I sat behind the kid at the CO & TH game. The kid was pelted by CO haters and never lashed back. He remained respectful when CO parents showed their ugly colors.

coach pasqurella should be coy
POY is Snowden, Gilmore or Wells. the remaining two are first team RB's. Good luck Fred.
C.O.T.Y. - Hernandez - L.P.
P.O.T.Y. - Gilmore from Wilson or Wells from S.H.
I agree, Hernandez and Gilmore...
Joe Colt
No way Heggins gets COTY they lost to Northview then won a bullsh** coin toss and couldnt even beat a 5-5 Compton Centennial team at home. Northview coach deserves it more than him.
As for all league
OL/DL Robert Diaz Northview
DL Rashad Tillman Northview
DL Charles Shorts Covina
MLB/FB Andrew Rodriguez Northview
# 43 MLB San Dimas
MLB Christian Vargas Northview
SS/FB Barbone San Dimas
RB Jason Knowles Northview
WR/DB Anthony Farmer Northview
WR/DB Kevin Jones Nothview
SS/WR/RB/QB Acevado Baldwin Park
And the only person on either of Covina's lines that should get a mention is Shorts the other guys are not good enough.
Coach of the Year: Hernandez
Player of the Year: Gilmore
To be totally honest. San dimas did not have very good talent. All they had was nico. The sr. class was 0-10 as freshman and 1-9 as soph on Jv. Coach Z squeezed blood from a stone and still managed to win 9 games. Thats against Covina, Bonita, SEM, and Northview who had better talent. The reason they lost to BP is= BP HAD BETTER FOOTBALL PLAYERS. The Saints still scored more (27) points in the playoffs againts Oak's than any other team!
coach of the year, not san dimas guy, but heggins from bp. guys did alot of good over there with not alot of talent.
man if nico barbone gets it, something is wrong. kid fumbles, not as tough as everybody thinks, stats really arent everything. its who u play against. u put him against bp's defense, he choked. lost first round cif. it either goes to gilmore or wells. i would said gilmore is more all around
POTY will go to Dorian Wells of South Hills, sure there is the arguement of Nico Barbone but he will get it next year. UNLESS Nico gets it this year and sets the stage for next year to be a back to back winner...I still think it is Wells. That game on Fox realy helped his cause. I wished Bryce McBride would have stayed healthy enuf to get to the playoffs and had his whole team around him, at the rate he was going he was a lock for the Player of the year. Injuries are a part of the game tho. tough luck.
Fred,
Some nominees from the Tartans (although it's tough on D not to nominate nearly the whole group)
On offense:
RB- Vega (an obvious choice from our unit)
OL- McGarry (league recognition last yr. I think
& 2 yr. starter)
Bachmann (improved much this year)
Sefton (2 year starter at C)
TE- Jackson (his pass catching number not huge,
but 2 yr starter and solid blocker)
On Defense:
DL- Kovar (2 year starter, league recognition
last year. Had 2 nice seasons)
Bowdry (Come on this year and had great impact
numbers actually better than Kovar's)
DB- Beckwith (2 year starter, 3 PI's & a Sack.
League recog. last year I think.
Tackles down from last yr. but
front 7 stronger)
R.Young (Had a very good statistical yr w/6
PI's. Gambler who made some big
plays and a couple well known
miscues,but that's what comes with
his style. Played some on O too.
Edwards (Had a very good year as a "most of
time" DB while playing some on O
catching, running & even throwing.
Also returned punts...should be some
award for this all-around player)
LB- C.Young (Huge year...who could argue.
Tackles, sacks, INT's Fumble Rec...
you name it. Will be a FORCE next
year...is a good FB as well)
Horn (Numbers down from last year, but
injury bug played a part. 1st team
all-league last yr. Should play at
the next level)
Niles (2 year starter, league recog. last
I think. Back to back very good
years. Has talent to play on Sat.)
It's hard not to include Glassman at LB who had a great year stepping into that spot, as well as Nichols at CB who played/started part time last year and had a very good year as well. Mraz (DB/LB) also great season, but as Jr. will back back and receive notice next year.
IMO

Out of curiousity what justification do you have to nominate Zernickow as COTY?
What makes him a better nominee than lets say the coach from La Puente as an example or are you just being a San Dimas homer?
Joe Colt
CHARTER CHOKE!
POY- Nico Barbone
COY- Bill Zernickow
QB- SEM or SH QB
RB- Gilmore, Wells
WR- Cogburn, Parham
OL- GHS Center
DL- Shorts,
LB- Kalinski, Kyle and Bronze Withem (Bash Brothers)
DB- SH corner, #15 from CO, Drew Annas
Hey Fred,
Why only 3 DB's? Every team uses 4 in most situations. Unless you count the SS as a LB for you purposes.
You guys are on your own when trying to pick out the best 26 players, hard job. Too tough for me. Good thing this blog has sufficient resources and I await eagerly the final results.
Next year I propose a weekly “Top Ten” for a variety of positions allowing the paper to have the finished product on hand as part of an ongoing process. To that end, I took the liberty of soliciting help from a couple of my local Football consultants and a co-worker in Texas who played at A&M to come up with enough categories for your ten best series so that everyone on the blog will get to see their kid's name, (as well as the name of the kid he rides to school with), in print.
Another advantage is we can now accommodate a variety of Offensive and Defensive formations and not leave someone out just because he plays Tailback at a school which happens to employ a West Coast type formation or something else the coach found on the internet last summer. Talk about your win, win.
Kind of like Nancy Pelosi and Obama got together with Oprah and put it together, huh?
What really matters is that with this system we can have 300 or more best players allowing bragging rights for virtually anyone who ever laundered an athletic supporter.
Now I know that some folks are going to be disappointed. You know, like if your kid is the guy between the punter and the center, or that guy on the kickoff return team who waves that “it's ok to go now” but hey, if we can have 300+ this time, who's to say we can't find four or five hundred kids or more who deserve more than just that varsity letter.
Speaking of next year, consider adding in the ball boy/girl as well as those guys who keep the Gatorade bottles full.
DEFENSE
Nose Tackle (Middle Guard, Nose Guard, Mike, etc)
D Tackle
D End
Inside Linebacker
Middle Linebacker
Outside Linebacker (Hey everybody has their best guys at Linebacker, right?)
Strong side LB (See, you do it this way, you get to name like 50 kids just as the best Linebackers)
Weakside LB
Corner
Safety
Punter
Kick Returner (You could specialize this out and get 10 punt returners and 10 KO return guys each, but why be excessive)
OFFENSE
Strong side Tackle
Strong side Guard
Weak side Tackle
Weak side Guard
Center (T Formation Offense)
Center (Shotgun/Pistol Offense)
Tight End
Wing Back, (4 Back, slot, off back, etc)
Wide Receiver (Big play threat)
Wide Receiver (Possession Model)
Quarterback (Wing T, Double Wing, I, or other running/balanced offensive formation)
Quarterback (West Coast, Run & Shoot, Spread, or other passing based formation)
Kid next to Coach with the clipboard
Tailback/Running Back
Fullback/Blocking Back
PAT/FG Holder (Ask Tony Romo how funny this is)
Long Snapper (They actually have camps for this where mommies and daddies pay for instruction)
Place Kicker
The chain crew is part of the officiating team and doesn't count here but some of the other possible additions for '09 might include most intrusive Team Mom, scariest mascot, (that thing at the Gladstone games gets my vote), most unruly parents, best band, largest number of hangers-on littering the sidelines, best parking lot recycling opportunity, and niftiest coach's outfits.
Hope this helps Fred.
WR- Mikey Harrell-CO
DB- Ben Counce-CO
RB-Isaac Tucker
Look No Way! These guys are some of the best players in the area and in there league. Tough schedule and young team. These are a few of the Seniors that held the team together. They played great this year and deserve a little consideration.
I would like add John Earnest for OL!!!
Chris Allen derserves a look at Player of the Year.
Coach of the Year: Bogan
Player of the Year: Gilmore
I'll be publishing the all-league teams starting next week
Where would someone go to find the All-League Teams for the V V, Miramonte, Sierra, etc?
Inquiring minds, you know.
Interesting that Damien has never had a player of the year.
QB - Jose Garay
RB - Nico Barbone, Dorian Wells
