Sorry Dude, his numbers don't warrant any award in league or non-league.

Name some programs or awards were stats are not considered to be considered.

Heggins stopped posting for a reason!

It's "Brothas" like you that give PEOPLE like coach Heggins a bad name."Be man enough to call it like it is", are you serious? " Don't get together with other coaches and make deals". It's obvious you are a follower and have never been a leader. You believe " the hype" instead of looking at the truth." Be a strong, more intelligent black man like I know you can be." Now that is obviously the pot calling the kettle black. For the record - Here are some facts that you can write about so you do not come across as an ignorant follower who would believe the sky was falling if someone wrote it in this blog. Let's address some of these issues brought up on this topic straight out of a movie script :1st off - Heggins is far from a Racsist, if you knew him at all, you would laugh at the attacks many of you bloggers have made on his character. (That's just wrong). 2nd - The Conspiracy Theory is completely made up, I mean you actually think that these coaches would get together and plan a mission to screw over Nico Barbone? Please tell me that the audience in this blog is of a more mature and intelligent background then what I've read.3rd -" Heggins should be fired"- for what, nominating his player and the Valle Vista Coaches voting for him. Sure, that makes complete sense ha! Did you all know that the Valle Vista League "Back of the Year Award" was not based on who was the best running back like in most other leagues? It is based on the best back period which consists of RB/QB/DB/Special Teams Returners & really, even Wr's. So, when you mention the stats, keep in mind that it is based on this criteria. Is this the best way to do things, probably not but this is how it is set up in the Valle Vista League so if you're upset because of Barbone not getting Running Back of the year, complain to the powers that be to change the criteria of the award. If I remember correctly, Acevedo Ran for TD's- Threw for TD's- Caught TD's - from the QB position, Running Back position, WR position. He returned punts for TD's-Kick offs for TD's. He locked down WR's from the corner position, blasted WR's/RB's from the safety position. Not to take anything away from Nico Barbone - He is an awesome football Player, just showing you why the coaches probably voted on Acevedo. Also, keep in mind that the All League awards are based on just that, LEAGUE PLAY not PreSeason or Playoffs. And to the "SGVRESIDENT" - don't worry about heggins giving you a bad name, your ignorance and lack of knowledge on this situation speaks for itself. You should feel embarrassed. Speaking from your "Brotha" stand point, 3 years as Head Coach - 3 Playoff Births, A league title and a complete about face for the BP program....... congrates/no - good job/no - well done/no... just attack his character with nonesense because you are a gullible follower. I'm sure as a "Brotha" coach Heggin appreciates your support! Will someone please turn to this joker and pimp slap him in honor of Ike Turner-j/k.

To Heggins - Keep up the Awesome job you have done with your program for your community. There are "People" out here who have notice your achievments and support you efforts.

SGVRESIDENT said:

You can put Heggins in the same class as Crutchfield. You guys are giving all us brothas a bad name. Be man enough to call it like it is. Your guy wasn't as good as that Barbone kid. Just say it, don't get together with other coaches and make deals. Be a stronger, more intelligent black man like I know you can be! Crutch already has a bad name, don't follow that path.

I understand what you're saying but don't totaling agree. Very few players, ever win awards without the numbers to back up their performance.

Knowles and Barbone had way better years thoughout the season than anybody else in the VVL. If we use your theroy "one game that night" than Knowles should have won, because NV beat BP. Just doesn't make sense.

Any award, especially of this merit should be backed up with PROFF, not fiction. Heggins walks into a meeting without being prepared, then tries to justify why he didn't post throughout the year.

Simple... No Comparisions!

Knowles and Barbone got ripped off. Heggins is a joke!

reality czech said:

SGV HOMER - in the Valle Vista League that's probably true.

kahuna said:

to the gentleman that asked how i can explain that b.p.s acevedo got back of the year over barbone, the only answer i can come up with is both were THE key offensive weapon opponents had to key for when playing them and when they went head to head ,team against team, acevedo's team came out on top. nothing racist about that conclusion.and as you are aware of , stats aren't the only thing you measure when guaging a kid's value. some have the added characteristic of convincing a bunch of kids, that were vitually underdogs in every game, that a win tonight is possible.i'm in no way saying one is more valuable than the other but that is what the league coaches voted.then there is the idiot that assumes that because the vote didn't go his way that it is racist or coach heggins conspired with the other coaches to screw san dimas players.stop watching sci-fi movies and understand that each coach voted on how he viewed opponent player's the ONE night he saw them head to head.the point is are parents and/or bored ex-sideline wannabes overly sensitive of all- league voting and my answer is yes they are.

Hey Joe AMAT,

Except for BP? You really want to go there? All Bishop Amat fans/alums/those on the wagon really should not be saying much after the year you had. I think you have plenty of problems in your program. Over/Under- Number of players that transfer out of Bishop Amat before next Season: 6

Joe Amat said:

SD Wins(except vs BP),

Administration of the Valle Vista league is on a rotating basis and lists Covina as the school responsible this year. Take up your complaint with them.

FredJ said:

SD wins, if that's true, I didn't mess up, I printed what the league secretary gave to me.

SD WINS said:

Fred,

You fu*ked up!! I was at the banquet where Drew Annas received his All League selection Certificate, and 1st team all league patch. Not to mention He should be in the running for All-Valley selection. Give the kid his credit on this blog, and in the newspaper in the coming days please.

Joe Amat said:

The all league voting is not a public popularity vote like the MLB, NBA All Star game. No one "deserves" statistics in order to evaluate the "validity" of the list. This is a vote by the coaches who have to scout, watch film, game plan, and prepare for these guys. They should know - ya think?

They show up at one site and bring all of their "ammunition" (statistics). They get an opportunity to present those statistics and "go to bat" for the players being considered. If we weren't in the room it's hard to say how much lobbying went on with different selections - so it is what it is.

However, to say that it isn't sometimes political would be untrue. Sure certain coaches in certain leagues may carry a grudge or play favorites. That happens everywhere in life, doesn't it? Is it right - no.

The other thing that I'm not aware of, but someone out there might know - are the VVL guidelines for selection.

Some leagues select MVPs first and then go to the selections. Others have coaches vote for the nominees in order from best to worst and tally the votes. Then coaches might "strategize" what order to vote their opponents in order to help their guy.

To simplify the process some leagues have adopted "guaranteed slots". For example:
1st - 7
2nd -6
3rd - 5
4th - 4
5th - 3
6th - 2
then they might have some "at large" spots that are voted on. A game some coaches play is to "hold back" a really good player and giving a "guaranteed spot" to a lesser player, assuming that everyone will vote for the stud. At time this backfires and makes the list a little questionable.

Not saying that any of these happens, but if we weren't there - we don't really know.

SDSaint said:

I just saw the entire list in the paper and there must be some kind of error. There is no way that Drew Annas is not at least a second-team DB.

Fred, please look into this. He was the best corner I saw all season. This has to be an error. The guy shut down Cogburn and made Northview players quit. I don't think the coaches would screw him over that bad.

I was upset when I first saw that he wasn't on the first team, but for him to not be on the All-League list at all is something that has to be wrong. This makes no sense to me. Did Coach Z not nominate him? He was just as good of a corner as the Withem brothers were linebackers.

Anonymous said:

No stats makes it very hard to compare let alone believe anything from Heggins. There should be a rule that all coaches need to post on public form throughtout the year for anyone to be considered. It truly happens at the next level in alot of sports...

Sounds like the destorying of the recent FBI files.

Politics at it best! LOL

NO WAY!
Randy Hoskins is the offensive lineman first teamer from San Dimas??? Fred... what are you thinking??? Randy is a great kid! Top notch in fact... but he's about the 3rd or 4th best offensive lineman at San Dimas! Angel Acevedo as back of the year??? This list is all messed up! I'm happy for Randy and Angel, but it's a shame for the linemen from San Dimas that can push Randy around and the running backs in the SGV that could knock the crap out of Angel... like Nico Barbone for one! Oh well... Merry Christmas Randy and Angel... maybe the biggest gift you'll get this year.

THANK YOU said:

Fred:

Please remove BP Fan from the blog FOREVER.

OCFootball said:

Do you typically get a player who makes 1st Team Offense AND Defense? I've never seen that before. Maybe I've never paid that close of attention before....

RobertK said:

I am surprised that more SD Saint players are not first team, I am sure it is difficult to please or recognize all of the outstanding players,
Nico is the best back in the Valley, and he played both ways. He had one hell of a line in front of him that deserves credit also. Bronze & Kyle Withem were the anchors to one of the best rush stopping defenses around. congrats to the Saints, you made a believer out of a Bearcat father.

Mean Machine said:

Not sure how the woman is involved. Barbone has been a mainstay for 2 years @ SD. Put up big numbers against every team that keyed on him and ...played defense. Kind of sounds like McD. So it must be the "woman in sports" thing because Mrs. McD took it pretty good as well from bloggers...if you remember.

Either way. Tough to argue with "her" logic "IF" it is her....9-1 and Nico's the featured back. 229 yards against that OC powerhouse team? Kind of makes you wonder...but Moms are MOMS! Just like on TV...players never say "HI DAD!" now do they? Well these moms prove why....they're always in their son's corner...even when cornered themselves.

WTF

I don't think Coach Arellances had anything part of this. Plus, we did post our stats!

Look how we beat BP and Covina. Thomas and Heggins band together and Ganesha and Pomona follow suit. Similar to the Obama/Oprah campaign.

SD Loyal said:

Kahuna,

You're right about BP being a more defensive team. Their defense was one of the best in the valley. However, Explain how Angel got the Offensive award over a guy that rushed for over 1700 yds, and had 18 TDs. Interested to see what your take is on that.

UR Kidding Right? said:

BTW, how can the best defensive team in the league (gave up less than 10 points per game)only have two players on the defensive first team. That is just ridiculous! Further proves the point made in my previous post.

UR Kidding Right? said:

NO, YOU learn how the system works before you run your mouth! While you described the way it's supposed to work, the fact is, that the coaches from BP, NV, Pomona and Covina conspired to pad the list with guys NOT from SD. How can that bad of a Covina team have that many guys on the list? And the proof is in the fact that they put the BP kid at MVP instead of Barbone. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about football knows the truth on this. The embarrassing thing for those coaches, is that since Fred DOES know football, Barbone could very well be a first team All-Valley and the BP kid will be luck to be honorable mention!!!! Heggins, Thomas and the NV guy should be ashamed of their racist conduct.

Bad news for them though....Nico is the kind of guy who will use this as motivation and will be relentless on on these schmucks next year. He may have 700 yards, just on those three guys!!! Can't wait to see their faces!

Shame on you guys!

for the people upset that coach heggins did not post stats after game 5, you should know as a fan that b.p. was more of a defensive team that managed to score more points than its opponent. also for the knucklehead that says b.p. fans and supporters hate white people and don't deserve their victories ,its this attitude that sours high school atheletics as a whole. i know for a fact that coach heggins doesn't endorse any 'hating " and has put the b.p. program back in its place, not on the top,but competing in every game they play. congrats to coach heggins and continue leading b.p. back to the play-offs

It's a little interesting how Coach Heggins is the only team that didnt post stats after game 5.

After looking at MaxPreps, the stats of his team were very low thru 5 games.

I would bet he was concerned about not having any comparisions at year end.

Now that being said, we know they didn't beat us, only scorced 12 against Compton C and San Dimas, so where did the numbers come from Heggins? Pomona, Ganesha and Covina???

Something is in the air here??

Glad to see that coahes dont make the decisions for Fred. WOW, this coach should be disqualified for not posting so that everything is up on board!

BIG DADDY said:

Tough call considering they ran behind Arrant pretty much all season. The holes he opened up for Shorts and Olivas were huge.

SDSaint said:

Wow! Barbone got hosed. I can't believe the VVL coaches could not see that he was hands down the best player in the league if not the area. Yes Acevedo was good, but come on week in and week out people were having fits over Nico.
Also, why is Drew Annas not on there as a corner and so many Northview DBs on there. Did the coaches not realize that SD gave up the fewest amount of points in league. Ridiculous!!!!!!

Joe Amat said:

Barbone was the Back on the 1st Team Offense.
