Boys Baketball

Tribune rankings
1. Damien (13-4)
Moved to top with win over Bonita
2. Bonita (14-3)
Lost two straight after 14-1 start
3. Diamond Ranch (10-5)
Undefeated against area teams
4. Nogales (13-5)
Wins over Diamond Bar, Glendora
5. Glendora (10-6)
Dominic Tiger-Cortes doing it all
6. La Verne Lutheran (12-0)
Will they lose a game? I don't think so.
7. Los Altos (12-5)
On roll, winning 10 of last 11
8. Northview (12-5)
Looking like the Valle Vista favorites
9. Walnut (10-7)
Solid wins on resume, but can they keep it up?
10. South Hills (10-4)
Winners of Azusa tournament. Nice, but who did they beat?
Notes: Even after December, I'm still not comfortable with the top ten rankings. Damien deserves to be on top after losing to Bonita earlier in the season, then beating the Bearcats in a late tournament rematch. But I have a feeling Diamond Ranch and even Nogales will make a charge. And you can't forget Glendora, even though its supporting cast is not that solid around Dominic Tiger-Cortes. And what should we think about La Verne Lutheran. They will go undefeated in their league, and will probably make a run in CIF. But are they among the area's best. After talking to Cameron Murray, I believe they're.

Tartans played with heart tonight and beat Chino Hills 59-55. Dominic Tiger-Cortez had 39 - he was unstoppable!
Glendora has NOTHING behind Tiger-Cortes! They will get walloped in the playoffs as a 3rd place team. Another early exit come playoff time for the Tartans in hoops. See ya!
Glendora is really good. They work well as a team centered around Tiger but they have a weak center they need someone stronger there.
Glendora got a very nice win on the road tonight. DB's a tough opponent with nice size, but the Tartans went on a run late and notched an important win. Friday's the real test at Chino Hills. It's not a MUST win for them to have a shot at winning league, but it would be a HUGE step in that direction. Good luck.
Well I saw the Glendora/Diamond Bar game; Glendora struggled a bit but went on an 18-2 run and closed out the victory 59-49 with Dom going 9 for 9 from the stripe.
In Other Sierra League Action
Chino Hills beat Damien in a close one.
Go Tartans.... Just Like Football!!!
Corey Yates is probably the best player
Ha Ha yah Corey Yates is very good, but he needs to touch the ball more if Damien is serious about winning
Damien is good, I predict Corey Yates will be a first rounder out of his first year in college
I was very curious about La Verne Lutheran. I went to a game a few weeks back and was surprisingly entertained by there style of ball!! I can see the similarities of the "Glendora Years" when Cameron Murray and Lutheran assistant coach Brandon Lee won CIF with a undefeated record. Has anyone attended a game? I have been to four games now, and will attend a lot more! They lack size, but make up for it with quickness, full court pressure and in my opinion the best freshman and sophmore in the area playing in there backcourt. These kids are highly ranked in the state of California and the nation top 200). I have done a little homework on this team, they are the real deal. In the fall they played in a league in Los Angeles. Rumor is they beat North Torrance, Gahr, lost to CIF Champion Corona Del Mar in overtime, and took Compton Centennial to the very end. I asked why haven't they played the local top 10 teams at a game I attended? A parent said the coaches and athletic department have sent emails and phone calls to every top 10 team in the pre season poll. Basically the top teams didn't want to play them because if they won, it would be expected. But if Lutheran won, these teams wouldn't want to be the first to lose and basically look bad. I have been watching basketball in this area since Scott Williams, Kevin Walker, and Tracy Murray. I am excited to see a possibility of one team bringing back the competitive "pride" of all the local teams!!! I would love to see a game against Glendora, Damien, Bonita or Diamond Ranch!!!
How can a team like Bishop Amat go from winning CIF championships to being as bad as they are? It looks like they haven't beat a good team all year, and they haven't played many good teams. Plus that headline "Bishop Amat crushed 63-23" must hurt. How can a high school team only score 23 pts? Aren't they the last valley team to do win a boys title? What happened?
La Verne Lutheran tried getting in the APU showcase game, but a certain local team that I won't mention didn't want to play them. From what I'm hearing, Lutheran could be the next small school power, like a Verbum Dei, Price, or even Renaissance Academy, which is the top-ranked team in the Star-News - which is saying a lot considering that's a Pasadena High town.
Fred,
Decent list, but can't see LV Luth. up that high. I don't care if they go undefeated, they don't play ANYONE as tough as the top ten teams...most aren't even close. I'm sure they might compete with some of the bottom teams, but until they do (maybe deep in CIF they will face some similar teams to the bottom half of your list) they should stay near the bottom of the top 10. I agree that W. Covina should be in over S. Hills, Nogales win over Glendora I heard was w/o Tiger, and I also agree the Diamond Bar will be a tough game for anyone in the Sierra. The Ranch has the talent to be top 2, but I don't think they have the chemistry there. We'll see, but a couple of those guys are more interested in their stats and their college possiblities than playing together to win. There's some good matchups in local leagues, especially the Sierra and the Miramonte.
hey i really dont think South Hills should even be on the top rankings because they didnt even play hard enough teams, i would also at least put West Covina up there....well thats my opinon
All good game of the weeks, but what about Los Altos?....They got 2 tough ones this week in South Hills and Diamond Ranch.....also i wouldnt sleep on Diamond Bar wither, they have lost a couple of close ones but it seems like they have talent...RIGHT ON on that NOGALES pik FRED i like them to win that league, Coach Roper has done a great job with that program....also a little off the topic whats the news on the local football kids and the recruitment process....is the safety from damien goin anywhere?, also the DL than they had?....also anyone from Diamond ranch?....Charter Oak?.....South Hills?.....i know the LA DE has a couple of offers but thats coming from my niece, so who knows how accurate that is.....any info from a reliable source would be nice fred.thanks

fred
id like to do nogales/walnut, if possible
=D
Well, we'll never know the answer if they can truly compete with the larger schools but my guess is absolutely not. Have you all seen the level of competition in those christian leagues? I would say that alot of the jv teams from the larger schools would also win those leagues fairly easily. It really is just many steps below the larger school divisions. With that said, Im happy for Murray and his players and wish them well. Lets not get carried away with their rankings though. What they need to do is get out and play in the big tourney to prove themselves otherwise they should really not get the major respect.
