CTown Fella,
The Sierra has 4 teams in CIF top 16 rankings. Next door to us the Baseline also has 4. That's HALF of the top teams in DI-A! I'd say the area's top division's are as strong as anywhere around So. Cal. There's some mid & lower level teams ranked high as well. Bonita is #11 in II-AA, Nogales-SH-WC all ranked in III-A and LV Luth. is #3 in V-AA. I'm surprised that D-Ranch is not ranked at the moment though.

JIAA (clever)
The topic was hijacked by "The Truth" when he asked the question. I simpy aswered it with facts. Asked..and answered. Simple. Not bragging, and if you go back and check, "The List" has never surfaced as anything but an answer or response to a previous question. Not bragging and certainly not whining. Again, I challenge you to go back and find anything that vaguely resembles "whining" and is not based in facts.
These facts were very easy ti find and makes the "cut&paste" really quite simple. The info is available for all to see at the amat football website. Take a look at www.football.bishopamat.org. You could get a list of NFL players as well, if you'd like. Of course, the facts cloud your dislike for the lancers. And again (the archives are great) go back and check my response to being next years projected "...#1 program in the weak SGV..." (your words - not mine) when I wrote...
"...everyone knows how I feel - we've got bigger fish to fry and amat's aspirations need to be higher than that."
Mr. Brown from Ctown...
Actually I think the local area is pretty strong in hoops this year. Maybe football was average this year, but the B-ball is above avg. IMO. The Sierra looks solid with 5 very good teams. Chino Hills was in the times top 25 (barely), and I don't think a local team has been for 2-3 years (maybe Ayala a couple of years ago). And looking at the calpreps rankings the other 4 teams are pretty strong. In fact you can compare leagues with each other on that site as well. When you look at the entire state of CA there are 211 leagues. The Sierra is ranked #19 (top 10%) and the Miramonte & San Antonio are #44 & #45 (almost top 20%). That's not bad at all. Then if you consider our neighbors just east of us along the foothills, the Baseline is one of the very best in the State at #4! Now that makes the local scene pretty dang strong if you ask me. Get out and enjoy a game.
PLEASE STOP GOING ON ABOUT AMAT FOOTBALL!!This is a blog for Glendora Basketball. How rude to take this forum and commandeer it for your selfish purposes. Now, on to basketball...
The Tartan vistory was amazing, to be 15 points down in the second and go up by 14 at one point in the 3rd. Dominic Tiger-Cortes was on fire! The bigs from Glendora woke up in the second half and matched the powerful center and forwards of Chino Hills. The team has started to show signs of life - a tough match-up against Ayala on Friday will be the next step to seeing if they are for real. The Sierra League is second only the Baseline for depth and other than Chino each team is capable of winning on a given night. Go
Tartans!!
amat sucks compare to other LEGIT private schools that recruit. sgv basketball is also a joke just like football.
Gee Joe what have you done? You always have that Amat list ready with a cut and paste doohickey in your back pocket. I bet your feloow coworkers must roll their eyes everytime you go on that "We are the #1 program in the weak SGV" It's going to be really something if Coach Aguirre comes back and Amat starts to win. BRAG,BRAG BRAG,BRAG, BRAG, BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG,BRAG. you get the idea?
At least it beats your WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE,WHINE when Verti was the coach. Too bad you had all the answers and inside information and no one once of decency. Verti deserve better than you didhed out anonymously even if you think you were doing iyt for the school the truth is IT WAS ALLL ABOUT YOU, JOE AMAT FOR AD,HEAD COACH, PRINCIPAL,MSRG,GOD. YOU HAVE ISSUES MY FRIEND THAT COMING OUT WOULD ONLY CURE.
SO WHO IS JOE AMAT?
BBCW, that's Joe Amat's new acronym B*tch,Brag,Complain,Whine.
As usual you apologize for hijacking Glendora's basketball thread and do it anyway. Classic Joe Amat.
Thank you to Confused for trying to direct us back to basketball. Fred has plenty of other ways to talk about other issues - please use this valuable tool he has provided wisely.
Sorry they hijacked the thread about GHS hoops. They always get ready to play come league. Good luck the rest of the way.
But..The Truth,
Here is your "recent history". Please write back and top it with your list from each of the schools that you mention (CHARTER OAK, LOS ALTOS, SOUTH HILLS, DIAMOND RANCH, GLENDORA, etc.)

What does your point have to do with this thread on GHS basketball. The Tartans are improving quickly and may end up being the best in the area once again. Dom is amazing and all the other pieces are working well, doing the little things needed. They are actually a pretty deep team, but not a lot of other varstity experience at the top of the lineup. But they are growing and gaining ground on the rest. Should be fun against Damien, but first Chino and a surprising Ayala team next week.
My children are GATE students who attend a California Distinguished school and my wife and I make plenty of money. I am simply pointing out that parents no longer need to spend the money to send their children to private schools in hopes of a scholarship. Technology has shrunk the world. Recruiters can watch games without leaving their offices. Many recruiting agencies film games and major colleges pay to have access. Go to any major coaches seminar and listen to what the specialist say. Coach Verti is not a bad guy or a bad coach. Yes there were some things he can improve on as all coahes have their weaknesses, but simply Amat does not draw the same crop of players as before. The new coach is going to get hired and everyone is going to promote him as the savior of the Amat football program. There will media coverage and the Blog will be filled with comments. Parents are going to get so caught up in the emotions that they will make an irrational decision that will cost them thousands of dollars. Fred, Bloggers, school reps public and private, coaches and even head coaches, I challenge you to post your academic scores, courses of offer, recent scholarships and lower level (frosh/JV)record and potential scholarship players. I guarantee the only difference you will find is some schools are free and others cost thousands of dollars. The newer schools built in the last ten to 15 years have better facilities, academics, and records. No opinions, no agendas, just facts.
What was that all about anyway ? Isn't this a basketball post ?
I mean was that suppose to be a history lesson, or was it just some silly guy, rambling on and on about his hate for Amat ?
How foolish it is to simply waste your day compairing apples and oranges. Did he have an aganda or what ? Was he mad cause his kid couldn't pass the entrance exam at Amat or was he upset at his boss for not giving him enough money to send his kid to a private school ?
I just dont understand the hate here from people like this.....
Bishop Amat is like a payphone, it is no longer needed. Yes back in the days our parents sent us to Amat in hopes that they would provide a better education than the public school system. Many of us were not Catholics (forgive me Father). And, our dads sent us more talented athletes to Amat in hopes that we would get recognized by some college or pro recruit. We were very competitive, ranked in the state in most sports and at one time had a nationally ranked football team. Just like Army and Navy who use to have nationally ranked football teams in college and were able to produce great teams on the field, times have changed. In the 1940’s you could get a free education and play football for the Army powerhouse. You would graduate an officer and were pretty much assured a good quality life. The NFL was young and did not pay very much. But with the expansion of the NFL and the salaries that players began to make, serving in the military after college just wasn’t as intriguing as going to college and playing with the chance to go pro. My family is full of people who serve and has served proudly, so I am not putting down the Armed Forces, but simply making a point. How come high school players are more interested in playing for a USC, LSU, Florida, etc., than the army? The answer is simple. The payoff! What is the payoff for playing at Amat? Oh we know what you have to pay, but why? What purpose do Amat and Damien have in society today? Is the education at these two schools that much superior than the local football programs who are also competitive on the field? Compare Amat’s academics to the top schools in the SGV. CHARTER OAK, LOS ALTOS, SOUTH HILLS, DIAMOND RANCH, GLENDORA, etc. All have been recognized for academics. Each school offers college prep courses and AP courses necessary to go to college. All are competitive on the field. All are free. So your hope is that your son will get recognized by a recruiter? In the LAST 5 YEARS, how many scholarships has Bishop Amat and Damien produced and to what schools? Compare this to the public schools listed above. You will find that these schools mentioned above are sending out as many, and more in some years, players out on scholarships than the private schools. (We want recent history Amat lovers. Our children did not play 10, 15, 20 years ago) Certain high schools might get skipped over by college recruiters, but not CO, LA, SH, DR, Glendora and others. The same recruiter who stops by Damien visits Bonita, Diamond Ranch and Glendora. If they stop by Amat, they will swing by Los Altos. If a parent wants their child to get national recognition, they do not need to spend thousands of dollars a semester. Anyone can register on line for the Sparq camps, college camps, etc. for cheap. They can also spend a one time fee and have private companies actively pursue colleges for scholarships. The schools mentioned above all play enough quality opponents for recruiters to visit their campus. If you really care about the education and scholarship opportunities for your child do the following; Compare the academics of each institution (ask for API and AYP scores, ask how many AP courses the school offers, ask what percent of students are accepted to college after graduation, and the list of colleges the graduates attend), ask how many scholarships has the football (you may plug in the sport of your choice) program put out in the last 5 years and to what schools, and finally, how much is tuition? You will find that there is no longer a reason to pay thousands of dollars for a high school education. Your child has a better chance of winning a CIF title by attending CHARTER OAK, SOUTH HILLS, or DIAMOND RANCH next year than he does attending Amat or Damien. Your child is just as likely to receive a scholarship from these schools as well. After you finish the research go find your local payphone and call Bishop Amat.
dom is the man
