Football: CIF Expands To Five State Bowl Games
Read today's story from the L.A. Times
CIF adds more state bowl games
"I'm excited about the Federated Council's decision to increase the football championships to five divisions," CIF Executive Director Marie Ishida said in a statement. "Now the work begins. We will be sending out RFPs [request for proposals] for a location or locations for the games. What develops from those proposals will help dictate the format of the event in terms of whether the games take place at single or multiple sites."
Also, read this on football re-alignment from Eric Sondheimer.
Football realignment in 2008?
From Sondheimer
Leagues have until Feb. 8 to make recommendations whether to stay or move from their current alignment. Then the Southern Section sends out the new playoff divisions on March 14, and leagues can appeal.
Also from Mr. S ....
There was also discussion about private and public schools. There could be a proposal to have separate playoff divisions for private and public schools coming at the March Southern Section Council meeting.

Count me as yet another man or woman surpr ised which you did notinclude pepsi to the ??worst??? l ist and even acknowledge their redesign.Other unique comments. The brand new Pfizer logo looks sloppy and careless to me. The blue clearspace close to the wordmark is uneven. I like the concept, but the execution is unhealthy. The outdated one is tighter.I do notunderstand what you like much better regarding the new Guitar Hero logo. The unfavorable space involving the letters tends to make it practically not possible to read for me.As for El Banco Deuno, I do notget it in any way. The line breaks appear entirely jarring to me and remind me of a logo I did for my s ister is line of crafts when I was about 15 (it was the word pollywogs??? on two lines, which has a hyphen?- ugh).Ultimately, I would adore to discover your l ist of Identities that happen to be in desperate will need of a redesign. My #1 choose could well be Verizon.
I thought this blog was superb and everything that you referenced to was quite relevant to the cause. Cheers.
Hello,hi it´s just i so very much like your great blog, I wuold feel very honored if you would want me to post a long review on your awesome webblog on my little would you grant me permission? Steroid Forum is my main interest.
This blog is awesome full of usefull information that i was in dire need of.
Your thoughts and opinions help me see the light. Thanks.
Never thought blogging could be soo fun and interesting. Man you know how to do it brother.
inside the huddle is a moron
Mean Machine why waste time with that fool. Who is signing tommorrow from the SGV??
Wipe those tears.....LOSER!
lol
yes makes you the number 1 ***hole here. You win that title hands down!
No one reads it? See LowestCreature....we agree...you're right no one reads my comments or cares what I write....except you....and you are "NO ONE"...ouch! This is getting easier by the minute.
But alas that is my last response to you NeVerAwInNeRaLWaYsAlOsEr. Have fun, "skip" my responses and practice what you preach...blog about sports.
Doesn't that make me #1 yet?
Well LowestHeadCase, thanks for letting me know YOU NEVER PLAYED A DOWN IN A JOCKSTRAP IN YOUR LIFE!
Tendencies, I've said it along, are the "keys" that change a game. That's why Pete Carroll is better in the second half, why Walsh was a genius and why Wooden beat so many teams when it mattered.
Here's a tendency that wins games..."attack a team at the weakness in their strenght" Do some homework and look at the past Patriot Super Bowls...what was the Patriots strenght? The offensive line...what is the weakness on that offensive line?....old and helpless against speed and agressive pressure! That's just one tendency! Rotating DLINEMEN to ALWAYS have that advantage, play in play out, killed the Patriots O Line...As far a Bellinumcuck or whatever his name is....He's a cheater! Deal with it! I've been saying that for 2 years and now here comes Spector.."and now here comes the thunder" Wyatt Earp in Tombstone..great movie by the way.
SPYGATE is not small you nutless wonder anymore than you're not my b4tch. When the FEDS open up the Patriots training facilities and haul those computers away and Congress starts deposing the lowest level guys, "who just did their jobs", and they SING LIKE BIRDS then as usual "you'll be wrong and your stalker obsession will really take off!...when I'm proved "right again."
Must be something to come on here and pick a fight and then get the blogger crap beaten out of you...kind of reflects real life I'm sure. Let's see you mock...family, parenting, the joy of Trojan Man's newest addition and the death and funeral of my best friend. It really tells your story doesn't it? Tired and Worn Out? ClUeLeSss AgAiN.
Anyway, I like to help when I can so seeing as no one helped you with your loser list nominations...I'll venture my take to help you out.

Should be noted no relationship to Greg Gano.
Are you bi polar by any chance? You should learn to spell check your comments. It's Belichick not Bellichick!
They say birds of a feather flock together which might explain why you also are tired and worn out.
Congrats to the Giants but I think people are overblowing this spying thing. You still need to make plays on the field and the Pats did this for years. Moron Machine sounds like a Boston hater to me or worse yet a YANKEE fan.
You mean back to the homeless shelter you mindless boob.
ANY GIVEN SUNDAY !!! WOW what a game .
Congrats NY Giants fans ...
And to the rest ...there is always next year .
How about that Steve Smith !?!? Former USC Trojan .
FIGHT ON

It is of course a higher bar that Amat has to strive for here, and given the state of affairs on the football field in the receint past, it is hard to visualize how Amat can compeate in this tough, compeataive conference.
Even if the team is going to be good, and all the news points in that direction, then, without the same level of talent that OL has, then, there has to be some level of concern.
Dont forget, we play them again next year and I just hate to see another wipe out. Of course, you never know, right ? With the new coach and a new outlook, then perhaps anything can happen.
But, who ever the new coach is, it will be a difficult job for him, because he comes in not only against OL, but, Notre Dame and Crespi too. Not an easy schedual for the new guy. I hope he's up to it.
Take Not Amat, Pac5 has just gotten more competitive:
Football: 7 transfers arrive at Orange Lutheran
Orange Lutheran's football team might have become the favorite to win the Pac-5 Division this fall based on the arrival of seven transfer students who enrolled this week for the spring semester, four of whom could be immediate starters.
Among the new arrivals are kickers Mike and Connor Loftus from Servite. Mike will be a senior this fall and Connor a sophomore. Both are projected as college prospects.
Defensive back Gabe Lemon from Trabuco Hills had nine interceptions as a junior. Linebacker Donyae Fields from Los Angeles Verbum Dei was his team's second-leading tackler as a sophomore. Quarterback Ryan Orozco from Chino Hills was a 6-foot-3 backup as a sophomore, passing for close to 400 yards.
Mike Nelson is a 6-1 defensive end who started on the freshman team at Long Beach Poly. The other transfer is Chance Baker, a freshman from Norco.
Lutheran football Coach Jim Kunau said it was "very unusual" for the Lancers to gain so many transfers, and he insisted the school does not recruit.
Principal Greg Pinick said, "We take pride in trying to do things the right way."
Lutheran's success the last two seasons, winning the Pac-5 in 2006 and losing in the semifinals in 2007, could be a factor in attracting talent. The school is also the only non-Catholic Christian school in Orange County that competes at the Division I level
Whether coincidence or not, the players will make Lutheran an attractive team both in the Trinity League and Pac-5 for 2008. And the transfers also figure to add to the growing debate about whether to have separate playoff divisions for public and private schools.
Jcaz and Amat 73 are both number 1

Well said Jose. Loggin in from vegas? Now if that's not the sign of a real loser I don't know what is. Hey moron machine after you lose your butt in vegas you can always go to Circus Circus and play video games after all you have the mentality of a child. You and Trojan loser should trade e-mails and talk about your kids there. No one wants to read your dumb rants.
Mean Machine is like Roosevelt 74,
They talk SH-- to get attention. Watch MM will lose his ass in Vegas and then come back fabricating stories on how much he won $$$$ and how he had the Superbowl winner picked. If you ever happen to watch a movie called "Bronx Tale" with Robert Deneiro there is big bald character in there by the name of Eddie "Mush"..pronounced(moo-sh) , they call him Mush because everything he touches turns to Mush, well this is what Mean Machine looks like in person and frankly he is Mush. See thats why Damien never wins. They are mushed having him as a backer. He is a loser stay away from him if you know him.
Just getting in....."What happens in Vegas...NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!
Swore I wouldn't blog while on my "Great Escape" but I miss seeing my tormentor UpperCaseLowerCaseUpperCaseLower....yeah right!...get the best of me. Then I read the lamo comments and I know why vacations were made.
Anyway that's NOT the reason I'm on....
Hey what gives???? Trojan Man? ....hope everything went well and your wife and new baby are healthy.
So was the stem on the apple after all?
Best of luck...having kids is God's way of saying..."Is their any reason to doubt the existence of a Higher Power?" Seeing children born and seeing a woman push LIFE out of her body is miraculous. It will humble ANY man.
Well if everythings fine I think it's time for me to get some sleep! 24 hrs is long enough! lol
IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!!!!! LOL
Sounds like PEED O FILE Language!
What kind analogy is that weirdo!

HS FOOT: Recruiting allegations at Alemany High
Several local high school football coaches are considering asking the Southern Section to investigate possible recruiting violations by Alemany High and its principal, Frank Ferry.
Saugus coach Jason Bornn, Canyon coach Chris Varner and Valencia coach Larry Muir have complained over the phone to Southern Section commissioner Rob Wigod. Muir said he is attending a meeting today to decide whether or not to file an official complaint, and he believes the other two will file, too, if possible.
There is also a district meeting scheduled soon to discuss the William S. Hart district filing against Alemany, according to Bornn.
Southern Section representative Thom Simmons said he is aware about the allegations, but nothing is official.
At issue is a group meeting at Alemany in December, consisting of 17 youth-football players from Santa Clarita and their families. Bornn and Muir said Thursday that the meeting constituted undue influence.
"I dont agree with it. I just don't like it," Muir said. "I think we're going to lose kids, and obviously we don't want that to happen."
Ferry and Alemany head coach Dean Herrington said Thursday they have done nothing wrong, and Ferry said he had even called Southern Section commissioner Jim Staunton beforehand to warn him about possible future complaints.
Ferry also said the hiring Tuesday of longtime Hart of Newhall defensive coordinator Rick Herrington, Dean's older brother, has other programs worried.
"When Alemany was going 0-10 and 2-8, everyone loved us," Ferry said. "Now I have two of the best coaches in California on one staff, and every one is upset we're getting interest from eighth-grade kids, not just from Santa Clarita but the San Fernando Valley, Simi, Antelope Valley, all over."
Bornn sent a mass e-mail Thursday urging anyone with information about Alemany wrongdoing to contact the Southern Section.

Does anyone find this mean machine a strange person?. Here is someone in his 50's talking about panties and comments like this "Have fun peeing on yourself with little girl glee".
You are a sad person to make comments like this. You have 4 kids? You need to grow up little man
Tell us who you work for so we can show your higher ups these type of comments. Insulting younger people while supposedly a businessman must be insulting to the real business men of the world. If I am anyone at his company I check into this guy. He seems to have some serious mental problems.
Any word on new transfers for any school. O Lu just had seven and I hear they are recruiting hard.
You better get it done Danny boy if you are coming to play Amat.
There's some good things happening over at West Covina with their off season training program, lots of new kids taking interest and hitting the weight rooms & also heard just about the whole team is going out for track this year, seems to
be a lot of new interest in the program for the Bulldogs.
Mean Machine you crack me up, have fun in Vegas,
maybe I'll see you at some spring training or summer workouts.
Showsumpride -
You are correct but you need to realize. South hills, Charter Oak, Los Altos, etc. don't want to be challenged. they will try to talk about their pre-season schedules but it is alot easier to play up in pre-season than in the playoffs.(doesn't hurt your season) They have a superiority complex and feel it is their God given right to beat up on the LPs and Whittiers of the world. They live in a delusional world where not winning CIF Championships every year is for those other schools. This is what I would like to see. Put them in with the Baseline and Sierra. Then you would have the Baseline, Sierra. Miramonte, San Antonio and also maybe the Mt. Baldy League. Most of the teams in the Miramonte League and San Antonio would have a tough time beating Colony. Pacific league is weak. They couldn't hang in the Central Division so leave them with the Del Rio and Almont.

Like Hop sing would say, "ah so yuh ah berry funny gai, meeh jus a dum fuk"
Good Bet !!!
Mean Machine bet the Giants and the Points in Vegas.
They will announce it at their salute to the coaches event. Hagerty is the New Coach, count on it. Aguirre has a cush job with CIF, he does not want the headaches.
Any new rumors on a selection date for new coach ?
M&M,
Now you know what it's like to be a lancer. Someone gets their panties in a bunch and all of a sudden you're the brunt of all their posts...warrented or not...facts or not...and they are all better than you...true or not!
Consider this practice...you're getting closer to being a lancer by blood every day. I'm secretly pulling for your guy...but I wouldn't be disappointed with Hags either : )
Meanie you're the MAN!
Wait..... your response was in record time...and "I" have no life! LOL Look in the mirror MF. I have fun and I don't save Lassie's or your mother wouldn't still be pushing that cart. Although I do on occassion dole out a little "LOVE"...need some? Just ask. I'm always willing and able to help a person in need. Real need not handouts. Handouts don't help anyone...a helping hand does.
I'll take a vote...was that too high schoolish.
I think it was. My apologies Fred.
But somehow it felt good.
Going to Las Vegas tonight so nothing can put me in a bad mood....not even my newest anonymous stalker/personal improvement coach/I know more than you/I hate you/I wish I were you? No one pays attention to me at home/everyone at work thinks I'm an idiot.... "newest" friend.
By the way who is Tillis? And why do I care? No offense but what do I care about transfers? And when did I become your Daddy and resident punching bag? Get in line ALL THE OTHERS HAVE FALLEN OFF>>>and you will too. Bank on it.
Does it get ANY easier than this? By the way I love MickeY Spillane.. "It was a dark rainy night and there she was with legs that would stop rain and lips that would..." gulp...where's my coffee?
Coooommmmeee ooooonnnn !!!!!! Lighten up...it a freaking FART FEAST here.....opps Sports BLOG. Have some fun with it.
People will like you. lol
Mean Machine, Your a real FN Mickey Spilane knock off the ME ME ME crap. This is about HS Sports not your Lassie rescue or I fought off ten snarling mountain lions adventure stories. By the way Damien is done dont be sending us any more of your Tillis'es.
Yet you take the time to write...who's the loser?
Have fun peeing on yourself with little girl glee.
Catch up will yah!
And you do care....come on hit those key and get mean with your daddy,
:-)
Silly machine,
I do have to agree with the other posts. No one here cares about your life. Make your own website and blog about yourself all day. I'm sure you will get zero responses.
YOU ARE A COMPLETE LOSER!
UpperCaseLowerCaseUpperCaseLower,
I'm crushed.
"Back at the ranch...." lol
Like Jules in Pulp Fiction, "Maybe my answers fighten you."
NIce try little man.
why do you need to put your life story here? Do you really think people who follow hs football want to read that crap? My condolences to your wife for putting up with you for all those years. 7 knee surgeries huh? any on your small brain? Check your ego at the door grandpa
Amat 73 ...Anthony's boy? Wow where has the time gone?
As far as your question...no my brothers don't coach at Cantwell. Never! Neverevernever EVER! LOL
That was a friend of mine that coached at Cantwell and now coaches at Salesian and the Centurions.
My brother runs the Gird Iron Camp at Veterans Stadium before their local ALL STAR GAME and on occassion works with players who are referred to him. He's an excellent defensive techniques coach and well liked by players and parents. And YES I'm proud of his accomplishments as well...most recently Employee of the Year for saving a man's life while he was being stabbed. That took guts to kick the crap out of a man with a knife who's already stabbed someone and has bad intentions. Our family likes to talk ALOT but when it comes down to it....we don't stand on the sidelines and freeze. That's my Dad's influence. Do the Right Thing....or else.
But all hope is NOT lost 73. He might coach at Amat if they hire the right Head Coach. Wow that would mean a couple of Blue...boobirds might have to eat a little crow. lol He puts the odds at 50-50.
But that's a little premature. Bishop Amat will return to greatness very soon. I thought Damien would make a push after the spotlight 06 season and get alot more athletes but the truth is they fell on their face this year because of a lack of quality coaches. Players need quality coaches to bring in the talent and to develop what they ALWAYS have at Damien , BIG PEOPLE, ALOT OF TALENT and GREAT KIDS.
Isn't it something that with ALL the defections from Amat last year NOT ONE CAME OVER TO DAMIEN IN SPITE OF GAPPING HOLES AT THE RB, WR, CB AND QB POSITIONS. Even the QB from local South Hills which I think is pretty good came over and instead went to "St. Paul"...but hey he's got a ring so maybe he was better off there.
Next year will be tough for Damien's football team with even MORE gapping holes and I believe a big year for Amat once they commit to paying the money or executing a solid search for a locked down staff. (OC,DC, ect)
Good luck with the grandson.
BLUE,
Thank you for the information. I will go on the website and look into that. That works perfect since he lives in Whittier. GO LANCERS.
Amat 73,
You want a camp to send someone to, try the contact football camp. It was held at the University of Redlands and I sent my kid there. You can stay on campus or you can commute every day. It runs a week. The good part is that this year they moved it to Whittier college. You want that someone special to learn the game this is a very good camp. It is pricey but my kid got allot out of it. go to www.contactfootball.com go to california and you can get the info you want. It is contact and you wear the gear. At the end they have a game and your kid is guranteed to play a half at minimum.
Cuz you asked...
Let's see no life????....uuummmm...I don't think so.
But what do i know?
Last time I checked let's see it's been a while...let's see I have a 29 year marriage, 4 beautiful kids, a full ride kid at USC, run a private Charity Foundation, taxi kids to games and school everyday, still talk to my high school friends from 30 years back, been involved in my community, received various commnuity awards, sat on various school boards, coached for 20 plus years, help with homework, ect, ect, ect.....now that you MADE me look at my life...you know what....I DO HAVE A LIFE. LOL Matter of fact it's one I spent my whole life building. Don't hate other's people's passion ...it only goes to illustrate you obviously have nothing going on in yours,
Best of luck looking back on 30 years of your achievements and accomplishments. So do I have a life? YES I DO. I try and live by two simple rules..."Know your worth because if you don't who will." and the second rule, and it takes more of a commitment but has a much greater reward but can't be done without the other...ready???..."LEAVE THE WORLD BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT...MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO YOUR FELLOW MAN"
Hope that wasn't too deep. My Dad was a poor street kid with a second grade education, came to this country and retired from his job after 40 years and never made more than 31k in his life, owned his first new car when he was almost 60! Sent 8 kids to private school, and just celebrated his 54 wedding anniversary...so I guess I had a good teacher.
I love sports...especially football...but more importantly I love what sports teaches us about ourselves...the good AND the bad. So if you're asking why I blog so much....I've got a busy life...this is my fart time....MY FART AROUND TIME ...ever fart? LOL
Fred's Sports Fart Feast...that's what this is...some of us just got more gas than others. OPPS...my bad. Hope that's not too harsh.
nice example you are for your grandkids lowering yourself to engage in racial comments. It people like you who remind me to never send my kids to Amat. I will send them to a higher learning institution where the people actually have class.
loser,
I guess you were in the same English class as fang.My grandkid did not make the comment I did. And as far as racist scroll down to fang's comments if you want to see racisism at its finest. If I took it to his degree then yes you could label it that , but I don't believe I am even close to him . Now he is the real ignorant loser.
amat73 grow up. You have grandkids making racial comments that like? grow up old man
Fang chang ,
If anyone would know about cat meat tamales it would be you. But you really don't have to come down from your hill to enjoy one. I am sure you can find cat, dog, rat, and monkey brains in some deli in Walnut. To bad you spent so much time in Spanish class and not enough in English class.
Mean Machine,
Do your brothers run the summer camp at Cantwell for football.I thought you mentioned something about Cantwell in a previous post. I am looking for a camp for my grandson ( AMAT class of 2014 ) for this summer . He played offensive tackle for HLP Pop Warner and loves the position. Voted most improved and lineman of the year in only his second season . He still a little raw but has great potential with the right coaching.
It looks as if Fred and some SGV diehards will get what they've wanted... an all-SGV CIF division with the Pacific, Miramonte, San Antonio, Almont, and Del Rio will be competing in the new Southeastern Division.
dum gal,
Nice!
I'm using it!
machine do you have a life? you post here all day long.
lets see I will take a bean and cheese burrito.......rip! to go along with a la puente snappy taco cat meat tamale. a side of nose green over some taquitos and a tap water from your garden hose, for that I will give you some of my homies from home depot for $1.99 per hour. donde esta el sanitario?..uh try my new brefest jock!..hey pedro got any dinero for a 20/20 mad dog and some tequila for your papa. boy spanish class paid off at Walnut...on-da-le -on-da-le...
It was the first time they had flown together, and it was obvious by their silence that they didn't get along. After 30 minutes, the Captain finally spoke.
He said, "I don't like Chinese."
The First Officer replied, "Ooooh, no like Chinese? Why that?"
The Captain said, "You bombed Pearl Harbour. That's why I don't like Chinese."
The First Officer said, "Nooooo, noooo ... Chinese not bomb Pearl Harbour. That JAPANESE, not Chinese."
And the Captain answered, "Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese ... it doesn't matter. They're all alike."
Another 30 minutes of silence.
Finally the First Officer said, "No like Jew."
The Captain replied, "Why not? Why don't you like Jews?"
"Jews sink Titanic."
The Captain tried to correct him, "No, no. The Jews didn't sink the Titanic, it was an iceberg."
"Iceberg, Goldberg, Rosenberg, Spielberg ... no mattah ... all same."
Wang Chung or hung no low or Chow fun, please tell yo momma to make the kung pao chicken extra spicy and please don't substitute dog meat for the chicken. Be nice to the soul brothas and my latino brothas or we'll call the health department on you and have your fast food greasy spoon shut down faster than you can say Jackie Chang.
Ay least it's clever and in fair taste (no pun inteaded) and down right funny!
Hope no one makes this a racial sensitive thing....it was funny!
But NO I didn't write any of it! ...But I did laugh alot!
Way to go MR. T
Dang "fang" !! What's with all the ethnic foods stuff ?
Get a grip here dude and lighten up on the soy sauce ok.
Five state bowl games is the topic and it comes down to this.? what a mess.
Funk and Stunk with the Kerplunks,
Get a life. Walnut has no business in sports topics to begin with...I mean real sports like football baseball and basketball. not badminton, horse equestrian, ping pong with the chongs or chess with your mamma NO BREAST.
Soul Food why dont you go pull a 187 on a Collar Green patch as yo Momma cleans my house up in the Walnut hills. Dont be a menace in La Puente while drinking your jungle juice in the hood. have another 40 oz. homie dont you know me, thats right you knew me because you blew me.
STANK and CHANK with the CHINKS or whatever you call yourself. You've been eating to much bad left over chow mein. Stick to Badmington or checkers and leave football and basketball for kids that speak English as a first language.
Happy Fu Young and dont cream on sum guy.
ITS TSINGTAO and SPELLED MENUDO..
ITS PRONOUNCED TSINGTAO... ANS ITS SPELLED MENUDO..
and with the players they had left Amat beat rancho Cucamonga who destroyed West Covina - remember them? The team that shut you out! The Lancers could show up with the players they have left and without a coach and still kick the crap outta your sorry 1-9 badminton playing 'stangs. Maybe it's because the kids that are at Walnut now are the ones who are genetically suffering from all of the late '80s BKK runoff that might have ended up in that No-nut pool! Walnut musta been nice back then in the shadows of that wonderful landfill.
Amat 73 took last year off to rebuild. Heck your team has taken the last 3 years off to rebuild and now the once proud farm has lost it Farmer. Looking for another farmer to run that run down farm of yours. I'll have a Sing Tao while you dip your face in your sunday Meudo or what even you call that disgusting dish you make from the farm.
Dominique Austin first came to my attention when my son played and trained on the same team as DA's sister. YES, she played on boy's basketball teams. At the time DA's Dad mentioned his son and well I took an interest. 3 years ago everyone said he needed this and that. The Dad knew better, or asked and was reassured.."We like him just the way he is!" Next stop ARIZONA! PAC 10 FOOTBALLL BABY!!!!
When i saw Amat at a SH passing tournament I saw DA's Dad again. He mentioned the corner as the next LEGIT PLAYER...I said..."The skinny one???" After seeing him grab, tug, kick and step in the WRs's feet and arms for a couple of plays I knew Price is for real. What impressed me was his ability to make the receiver adjust/distupt his stride...that's affects the QB/WR timing. He was "inside: the WR stride. THAT'S TOUGH! VERY TOUGH! Kid got skills. Can he hit? Well someone taught him those advanced skills I'm sure his Dad taught him how to PROTECT himself and the colleges will teach him how to "PUNISH" and add MUSCLE THE RIGHT WAY!.
Try seeing that technique with any DBs in the Valley. Most "cover" corners are just fast twitch athletes that make plays ON the ball or can "hit"....and that's all. Price is size, lenght, technique, skills, and Football IQ....oh yeah FOOTBALL IQ...immeasurable to the uninformed. That's quite the package when all you're missing is a to grow into your body.
Is it any wonder there are so many stupid comments about the lowest level of football knowledge...looking mean, acting mean and being a "roider. Football is technique at the "skill" positions. That's why QBs and CBs make the most money.....it's a SKILL SET that makes you valuable. And Price comes thru on those assets.
Case in point BOTH Mannings make it to the Super Bowl, both were #1 picks and both are overanalized STUDS. And time will prove that out --- like most things I write. YES BOTH! Regardless of the outcome of the Super Bowl.
fang and stang,
I guess they took last year off to rebuild. By the looks of your grammar I will take the $5000 education. But when I attended it was only $330 per year. Imagine that, how times have changed.KUNG HA FAT CHOY to you too.
Amat 73,
We do have a football team and it also has a coach. Whats your excuse for a coach. oh thats right you dont have a coach and last year you also did not have players....oops they went elsewhere to play. keep paying your 5g's and live in La Puente while we get free education and live in Walnut. $$Happy Chinese New Year.$$
fang and stang
Very good reply .No we do not have a water polo team so there goes that one. Let's just stick to football or basketball or any teams we both put on the field. Oh, I forgot you don't even have a football team and I bet you did climb up on the roof to see if we really have a pool.
Amat 73 thats right you beat us and I will take that one..how about a game of Water Polo, oh thats right your rich ass school dont even have a pool..I guess we will have to face you guys in the La Puente county Ghetto Pool where they are pulling out the dead bodies from Bassett...oh thats right go to the top of that new gym and you will find it there.......heard that one.
Mr. Price will be fine at the next level. all he needs is heart and a big set of ba_ _s! look at Walter from WEST COVINA he is doing a great job at Oregon. and he is 6.1 180lbs. next year should be really fun to watch Oregon with Walter and Will Wallace playing in the back field for the Ducks. Both from West Covina High School. PRICE dont listen to all these none football players are they are are hatters. Good luck next year.. will see you at the game when Amat playes West Covina i dont know if its home or away

Come on now. You people have really taken your hate for AMAT to new low levels. Right now Price is playing high school ball and his height is a great advantage. His weight is not too bad either after all he is a DB. When he gets to college and he will get there I am sure he will physically be where he should be. These are high school players , lay off on put downs on these kids wherever they go to school . For FANG and STANG, still waiting for your reply about our has been Girls basketball team, to quote you " to show how a public school can destroy a so called state champ private school" . Now you are going after one of our football players. What's next , how you are going to school us on the football field. Stick your fang up your stang and maybe it will chang.
sWORDSMAN SAMMY.
I hear a couple of your football players may be leaving and coming to Amat to play for the new coach. Is this a true fact.?
At that height, maybe he should give up football and play basketball, that poor boys basketball team is just as bad as the football team and can use any help right now.
How much can he bench press tho? He is all skin and bones and height on that frame..no muscle....get some muscle and he is stud no doubt. Hula Hoop was kind of funny.
A HULA HOOP THROUGH A CHEERIO
I was reading the posts of people on this blog putting down Sheldon Price. That is simply not right the kid is a great player and is already 6'3 170, that is big. For all of you that think that is small didnt Cary Harris start for SC and he is barely 6'1/180. I believe that Amat and Sheldon will do fine next season. Too bad we dont play we have a year off from talking smack...LOL
Manute Bol comes to mind.
Sheldon Price
6'2" 140 lbs. sophomore
6'3" 170 lbs. junior
I think he is on track to gain a little more weight. But lets be real. He doesn't need to be 200lbs. He is a corner and growing daily. Just look at his genetics.
Case in point: the Rodriguez Brothers. They get bigger as they get older.
Sheldon Price has the body of Chris Rock, enuf said. I dont care who is dad is.
Showempride,
All nice to think that a SGV team can get o a bowl game. So Hills was the best the SGV had to offer this year and they were nornal.. a Running back in Wells and thats about all. To go to a State bowl there is no way So. Hills can beat out a team like Corona Centennial,Oceanview,or St. Bonaventure. SGV needs to stock a Amat with all the big fish if it wants to be represented someday. other then that El dorado who won it all in that low division could not hang in there with teams that did not make it. one being Orange Lutheran. Mater Dei . LB Poly and even a city team like Birmingham which I felt should have played in a bowl game this past season. The selection committee is not going to choose South Hill I dont care if they go undefeated. A D1 program like Amat with a all star cast a great season a championship and then maybe a bowl apperance..not going to happen demographics are not what they used to be.
What will Amat's OL look like this year? With Austin, Ochoa, Stremple gone. Who will anchor the line? Any big boys from the lower division stepping up this year to Varsity? I understand Teter is coming back, but by the looks of it, looks like the OL is pretty depleted, unless, of course, the new HC will have some needed transplants in its place. Unfortunately, the other 2 big boys, Hoskins and Jared Arnold are not Pac5 material.
reality check
the sgv is a great place foe football. we have studs all over. the sgv has produced teams that can compete in state bowl game but there was no such thing. so what people want is to take away the chance to even get to that point. people want a cif championship to be easier to get. a cif championship is supposed to be hard to get and for the elite teams to get. sgv had 2 teams in the semis yes the oc teams won the last 2 years but oh well. you cant put all the sgv teams together. teams like duarte and la puente and el monte and teams like that playing charter oak and south hills thats stupid the championship;s would be the teams that are un the southwest all the time. plus it would show that it was easy to get the cif championship therefore showing the voters for the cif state bowl games that no1 know how good of a team the sgv cif team is..........
How is he going to get to the next level if he gets smashed and creamed in HS ball. He will not get to the next level hurt. Look at Donnie McClesky and Wesley Walker, they knew they had a chance to get to the next level and they bulked up for their senior season. If price keeps his present frame he will get rocked.
You guys love to put down Amat players. Sheldon Price will be Amat's next D-1 prospect. Like Mean Machine said Price has excellent cover skills which will get him notice by college scouts. When he gets to college, he will be redshirted and he will bulk up with a real conditioning coach. You people said the same crap about D.Austin at his weight and he earned his ride the hard way with no respect. Price, Bowens, Prieto and Seals will earned the ride the same way and be signing a letter next year. All of these guys are from good families who taught their kids not to run or hide just because a football programs down. I guess they should just stop playing just because they lack certain skills or weight you people think they need to compete. All of these kids are fine examples of loyal Amat Lancers pride. They all hung in a tough PAc-5 divison and you better believe a scout has them on radar. Sheldon Price will get the "ride" that's for sure, even if he doesn't receive All CIF from a great area coaches.
mean machine,
you cannot compare Austin to Price. Austin is strong from the git go. Price is weak and will have to make pull at the jersey, horse collar tackles with his frame, but when that freight train is running straight at him and he has to go head up then ..smaaaaaaack he will not get up and be hurt in the process. Dislocated shoulder, broken arm , broken finger...he needs to body armour up for this coming season.
Yeah especially when it's a joke...much like you. Just put your website link and stop shilling for clients. Isn't that the same thing they said about Dominique Austin for 3 years and where's he act...ARIZONA.
The point was the Dad played in the NFL and if he's comfortable doing it THAT way who are you to know better.
That was my point you 'roid rage knucklehead.
But you did accomplish an unintended goal of having others slam Price. Well done ...the needle was the joke and now so are you...Isn't that how Baseball got into SO many problems.
hey machine. dont you corner the market on talking out your rear end?
Meam Machine,
No one said anything reguarding needles. Strenght conditioning and over the counter protein from GNC is not a needle. He does need to put on some muscle mass. He is weak and he was maxing out very low range with the weights last year. He has game no doubt but he does not have the frame for the contact. Haynes, Moss, skiny but strong. Price is Skinny and weak. Needs some stength to hit guys like a Blake Ayles, Austin Shanks and Pamasa Brothers. Oh and by the way that big back from Loyola will be back, think Sheldon will hit him straight up with his existing frame. I see Bowens playing the Blood linebacker and blitzing like a madman this coming season. He is going to be bigger and stronger this year and thats because he will put in the work in weight and conditioning....Price are you listening?
I saw Price attempt a hit on Orange Lutheran Stud All everything Tight End Mr. Ayres and he looked liked he bounced off 5 feet into the air like a rag doll. Pretty humiliating, if you ask me. I agree with conditioning coach, bulk up and put 30-40 lbs of weight on that boy and he'll be the next Amat stude this season.
Bowens looked like a stud last year, he'll probably look more intimidating this year. Any chance he'll be playing LB or DE this year?
AMAT GUY, and you think THAT qualifies Price's Dad to make decisions about his son!
Dude, next thing you're going to tell me is "Father Knows Best" lol
Some people talk out of their rear end and pretend to be qualified to speak on issues they know nothing about.
Good to see someone has that kid's back. I've seen him at a couple of Passing League Tournaments and thought he was thin but then I saw him in action with a helmet and he impressed with his man cover skills and "hands". That kid is an octopus but Refs respect his level of competition and skills...next level stuff. Very good.
What was the name of that corner who played for the Raiders years back who came over from the Patriots? Thin , tough, perrenial ALL Pro...Played on the other side of Lester Hayes? Was it Michael Haynes?
Anyway he was thin as well...so was Ware from UCLA. Thin is okay as long as you're strong. Think Michael Cooper. Different sport but Randy Moss comes to mind as well. what does he weigh 165? Wet...and 6'4"?
Conditioning Coach....please no needles.
Showsumpride,
Thats just it our SGV Teams are getting their asses handed to them by the OC teams and the San Fernando Valley teams. The only team the SGV has is Amat (which by the way are starving to get back to prominence), the rest are good (So Hills, Los Altos) but they play low level competition and have no business in a State Bowl game. Until the SGV starts to really beef up one school with all of it's neighboring talent and not necessarily sent to Amat but to a School that can cheat and get them all in there like Mission Viejo does...beef up one school and then you have a powerhouse football team. Amat is the logical choice because it is a private school. other then that the SGV is a low level farm for football.
Amat guy,
Well they should start now if they know whats best for him. Spring is right around the corner and he will get hurt again trying to hit D1 players with that skinny frame. He needs work now if they have plans of him playing the next level. Maybe he is not even in their plans to play football beyond High School, with that frame that may be best for him.
we need thode oc teams in the division. the way you get into a state bowl game is to have a great season and prove yourself. now we all know that the sgv teams can play but everyone else doesnt think that way so in order to send an sgv team to the state bowl game you would have to beat those oc teams that everyone thinks are so great.
Conditioning Coach,
I think Sheldon's parents know what is best for him seeing that his dad played at UCLA and the NFL. His dad is also a freshman coach at Amat.
Amat Parent,
Sheldon is a very good athlete but you are right no weight to play DB with any kind of sustantial hitting power (he can play the the position tho.). If you are his parent bulk that young man up. He has the height and the speed to get to the next level but he needs more weight to really put a hit on a Wide Reciever. GNC shop with protein shakes for muscle, food and weight lifting..start now and do this consistantly all the way up to spring and straight thur to game one of the season and you will have a monster of a player. You must not let him fall off the wagon and you will see a bigger and and more impact of a player. He has all the tools just needs more frame work.
He Fred, I heard that WEST COVINA and SOUTH HILLS are not going to play teams like Los Altos, Charter Oak, Diamond Ranch anymore. The SAN Antonio league will not play against the Miramonte league next year. So teams like San Dimas and Northview and Baldwin Park get to play teams from the Miramonte league. Thats why West Covina is playing Amat, Glendora, Diamond Bar and I heard Servit next year. Also South Hills is getting Northview and I heard Crespi. Could It be that we see these schools in the playoff or is it because of some other reason. It looks like the Miramonte league is going to play teams from the Valle Vista league, I also heard Los Alto is playing San Dimas the first game... need some feed back.. go WEST COVINA....
Bishop Amat just scheduled little sitters of the poor next year. Finally a team they can beat.
Don't forget about Sheldon Price who is a legit D-1 player who has the size (6-2)but not the weight to play DB. He's a very good player who was injured last year.
Fan of the valley,
Austin is headed over to Arizona to become a Wildcat. Silva and Wags are most likely playing at Mt. Sac. Ochoa I hear was talking with Fresno St. but that is still up in the air. Was this done with the help of Verti , I could not say but really Austin is the only one really moving on to play major College ball, lets face it he was the only Lancer that had the size and ability to advance to the D1 college level of play. The next Lancer class has some good talent but I do not see any really big guys to go to the next level. Seals could make it and he sure does have the grades. Prieto is good but is a HS stud and JC only, Bowens has the size of a D1 college athlete and the jury is still out for him, he could very well end up playing college ball. other then that most are JC at best.
Mean Machine or MATMTWTBAG, both of you seem to have some good info regarding Amat. Do you know when their going to hire a coach because I heard Verti hasn't helped any of the seniors with college recruiters. In fact I heard he as total ignored the seniors such as Steven Ochoa, Wagner, Silva and possibly D.Austin who have been seeking help colleges with no results from any current staff members at Amat. Signing Day is around the corner and I wonder who has been answering the phones at Amat. These kids have the chance to play in DIV I, II, or III. Amat needs to make a decision soon. Im sure some returning players and parents are getting tired of the same old song and are monitoring the hire.
Jhykron
Youe suggestion would actually be a very sensible approach. While the SGV vs. OC playoffs is fun for me, I am very intrigued by an all OC Division. In fact they are even talking about the South Coast league being part of this new all OC Division.
I would love to see El Do play Mission Viejo, San Clemente, La Habra in the playoffs.
But I would be equally as interested in seeing Glendora, South Hills, Charter Oak, Damien, Chino Hills and others in the same division.
Benny Tone Deaf:
North OC wants their own division? Sounds good to me. Maybe we could consolidate the space to make a couple sensible SGV/Whittier/Norwalk divisions.
SGV division A:
Sierra League
Miramonte League
San Antonio League
Valle Vista League
Mission Valley League
SGV division B:
Almont League
Rio Hondo League
Pacific League
Del Rio League
Suburban League
That leaves, what, Montview? Well they're screwed wherever we put them. I guess we could have them replace the Suburban, if we wanted to represent the whole SGV.
Thanks Matty, I get alot of grief for my opinions and maybe sometimes I deserve it but I know my family NEVER does. That hasn't stopped some from pissing on my family when all they have to do is step up and talk it out in person. I wonder how many people took that tact with Verti is all I'm saying.
I know Coach Aguirre isn't the type who suffers fools lightly so those days are numbered for the "roaches" if you will.
First time I ever saw Amat play Damien beat them @ Amat. It was a rush. 95% of my son's classmates were going to Amat and he decided to go to Damien. Let's just say it worked out for him.
That was Pasquerella's last year at Damien. They were well coached and had this LB named Rios I really liked. Anyway, Beating Amat meant something...then and now. It meant you stepped up. Now that Amat is down the true heart of a Champion must come through....act like you've been there before. Regroup, take down names and come back stronger than before. Notre Dame, Crespi and Servite did that exact same thing.
Winners can never be broken, truely, unless they quit. Look at Kobe....when you're the man...you need to act like one. Now how does the team respond to his summer time complaints? THEY'VE STEPPED UP!!!!! That was his point ALL along...ACT LIKE CHAMPIONS....HELL YOU'RE THE LAKERS!!! STEP UP! Bynum took his advice and look at him now...the next Kareem and Shaq in one!
The same should apply to Bishop Amat. Don't tell me who you were...that means you're not anymore....get it done, step up and act like you've been there before....because you have, At the highest level. Just remember every Champion deserves to be respected...unless you cheat like the patriots...so give the rest of the SGV their due from time to time. You guys make everyone fell like the Clippers...when they're not as evidenced by the Championship Gano, Farrar and Bogan have won.
Best of Luck
Mean Machine,
Well put, I too am of the opinion there are the ones that act up because we are not winning and pound their chest and bash the coach, his family and anyone else that gets in the way. As a Alumni I follow the team win or lose, heck we all want to be winners and we want Amat to shine every season but that is not possible and we all know it. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose and it is a process that goes on year after year. Amat, being around since 1958 did not always have the best teams fielded and then it took off and we won some chanpionships. We lost some too. Then the modern era changed things where sports in HS became competitive to the point of racial attacks, personal attacks and at times physical attacks. Times have changed from stealing ones Mascot to fighting, spitting and vebal abuse over a HS game. People have really changed even up to the Little League parents and their confrontations. I wish only the best for Amat and the new coach because we know he will be judged by those impatient cockroaches that come out and claim to be loyalist to the Amat Program. Win or lose I am there for the entertainment of the game, if a team such as Crespi or Notre Dame beats us I take my hat off to them say good game and place no blame on anyone other then to say they were better then us that nite, coaches go back to drawing board. I love to win like the next guy but I will not resort to all that hate that goes with it when you lose. Fans of today need to take it back to the 60's or even the 70's when it was rivalry and it was fun. Today it is almost getting criminal.
BRAGGING IS NEVER GOOD. EVEN WHEN YOU WIN. ACT LIKE A CHAMPION. SO ORTEGA I DON'T AGRRE THAT WINNING EARNS YOU THE RIGHT TO BRAG. NOW BEING PROUD AND ACKNOWLEDGING SUCCESS OR EFFORT IS ALWAYS APPROPRIATE.
SOMETIMES BISHOP AMAT BLURS THAT LINE.
Everyone thinks their school is the best or will be the best in the coming year. Bottom line is did your school win state, CIF or even league. No, then there is nothing to brag about. Plain and simple last years champions are the one who have a right to brag everyone else shut your mouth and play football. Go undefeated and people will recognize you. Dont live in the past, it doesnt matter what your school did two years ago, ten years ago, 20 years ago.
Matty...first I wasn't the one asking who Joe Amat is...he knows who I am so I expect someday he'll come up to me @ an Amat game and introduce himself. Outing people ain't my style. Second I'm a supporter of Amat because I have friends, famiy and former players there and as a Catholic school Alumnus I support that brotherhood, third I liked Verti both as a coach and as a good citizen. Went to Chalk Talks and thought he had the best interest of the players first and foremost. Verti stepping down was the act of a big man...don't you think? So no I am not a basher especially since my brother might coach there if things go as they might and since I actually played for Coach Aguirre... it would be cool to see Coach right that ship.
What I have always hated is the arrogance and mean comments about Verti's family (Mom and Dad), or the put downs of other SGV programs when being the only DivI program in the valley means something more than pounding your chest like a spoiled kid when things don't go your way. Not directed at you specifically but you know the ones I'm talking about. Those things I thought were uncalled for.
But don't be worried..like I said before help is on the way. I just hope the next coach gets a better shake than Verti did. At least on line.
Fred:
This was suppose to be a bowl discussion, not about Amat this and Amat that.
What a joke....
I find this Amat discussion quite funny. I in no way mean disrespect to the tradition and alumni of Bishop Amat, but I wish they would check themselves. They are a sub-par program now, they need to have more realistic coaches in mind. The offensive coordinator from Mater Dei, are you kidding me? He has been courted by D-1 college programs let alone superior high school progams from the O.C. Issue is, he will not leave Rollins.
As for these alumni who are into returning the program to glory, I'm all for it, but let's be real. Find an intelligent mind with great work ethic. Don't just chase down petigree and a graduation year. Just because you played for the program doesn't mean you will resurrect the program. Case in point...past few seasons. Big names require big pay checks and big funs for the program. Msgr. is not willing to give either. I should know, he's my uncle.
Mean Machine,
As much as you come on here reguarding Amat I wonder if you are a basher or supporter.? Who cares who Joe Amat is? Everyone here is anonymous and Joe is a good inside source here concerning Amat athletics. Good Job Joe. On to the Program. Amat did have a bad 2 years under Verti and I will give all the basers including you MM the right to slam us, but it is over and on to a new start which is encouraging for all of us Amat backers including you MM. The new coach will be put in place , the players are maxing out in the weight room right now, the players are coming back and there are no transfers this year. Jealous people are hating on Amat when they are losing, it is good to see a winner lose now and then (so hills and los altos you will get your turn). The hate continues towards Amat now that we are set for a new coach, a new beginning and a returning team that will win this coming season and return to being the pride of the SGV once again. MM it does not matter who hates on Amat, We are Amat we stand loyal and true to the Alma Mater no matter how many bashers come out. Oh and by the way as soon as the new coach gets named look for more bashing, it does not matter the better of the schools football program is coming back and I truly believe Verti did step down for the better of the program. Nice guy that Mark Verti. New coach equals new assitants, new designed offense, Defense, and also players coming to play ball for this new coach, not just the existing players but the new coaches transplants from where he used to coach..Remember we are a Private school we can get players from outside the area. Jealousy, Jealousy, Jealousy. See you at game one MM.... we know you will be there masquerading as a Amat backer. To all season ticket holders you are the lucky ones, keep those seats. This year is going to be a great year to come out on Friday Nights and Watch Amat football.
Mighty Are The Men That Wear The Blue And Gold!
Joe Amat,
Who are you?
“Invite potential talent in the form of a NFL type football competition Punt, Pass and Kick and Skills Events....make it Free! In the end people will see the Pride and Commitment BEFORE they attend the school.”
This is a mental image that will have me giggling for hours.
“Make Amat THE place to be! And for god's sake NO MORE AMAT NATION NONSENSE....mat isn't a "nation" it's a Legend...act accordingly.”
Man is this true or what?
Oh no another heart crushing comment....I'll go cry now..excused me. lol
Someone once mentioned that it is the leagues and not the teams that get moved around every so often.
It's unfortuante because I for one would very much like to have teams such as JW North, Centenial, Hart, Canyon, St Bonni and Oaks Christian, somehow in the Pac5/D1 playoffs together.
The reality is that regardless of enrolment, these teams mentioned above are truly Divison one, no question about it. They should be playing in the same playoof format as the Pac5 because they seem to always dominate the schools that they play against.
As another poster blogged here not to long ago, it is a joke to see those programs compeating against such inferior talent come playoff time. Why can't CIF come to grips with the reality that exists out there and put these schools on par with one other.
Part of the discussions on new playoff divisions is a proposal to turn the Southwest Division into an all OC Division with the following leagues:
Century
Sea View
Freeway
Empire
Orange
This poroposal is getting a lot of support in the OC. I'm not sure what Division they would put the San Antonio, Miramonte and Suburban leagues into if this happened.
mean machine is a fool and amat will always suck
M&M,
It's on the calendar. Please contact the Alumni/Development Office for your tickets to :
"Salute to Athletic Excellence Dinner"-Honoring CIF Championship Coaches
Saturday, February 9, 2008 - Evening event in the Student Activity Center
Only $50 a plate or you can have your own table for $500, $1000, $1500, or $2000 depending on the location. Lot's of memorabilia famous former lancers and MC'd by Rob Fukazaki of ABC Sports.
Great idea...but they beat you to the punch. That may be too soon to be there as a relative of a new staff member, but you're more than welcome to join in the festivities. I've got my spot guaranteed!
I'm kind of surprised that Amat Boosters would be sitting on their hands and wringing their collective hands instead of taking action. Part of any push to regain Amat's luster is to bring back the Tradition by starting a new event that illustates what Amat brings to the table. Amat Booster should organize and put their money where their mouth is!"
Have a Amat Pride Event...sell T-Shirts, have autograph signings, bring back the big guns and make it a Donor Night/Head Coach Funder....raise a warchest! Think Athletic Endowment.
Invite potential talent in the form of a NFL type football competition Punt, Pass and Kick and Skills Events....make it Free! In the end people will see the Pride and Commitment BEFORE they attend the school. Make Amat THE place to be! And for god's sake NO MORE AMAT NATION NONSENSE....mat isn't a "nation" it's a Legend...act accordingly.
This level of organization takes real pride and commitment. s Amat up for that? How knows? Joe? Amat 73? MATMTWTBAG, Blue Orca, Legend? Secondly the negative comments on the blog have to STOP! People read the nonsense and want no part of the drama.
Organization...opps...POSITIVE ORGANIZATION...separates the contenders from the pretenders, Best of Luck Bishop Amat
Joe Amat,
Personally, you better be on the interview committee because you are a more valued historian than anyone. You actually do very well making for a convincing argument because truthfully your right no one can argue with those credentials. How about a two for one and both Aguirre and Hagerty both come on staff together. We have such a "rich" tradition than lets put our money where our mouth is and I really think we would see an outpour of support if they just approached us and asked for help. Anyways, would be interesting to see who either "Man" would surround themselves with as far as staff. Sometime someplace we have to stage an event when you reveal yourself because my sense is we actually already know who you are but at the same time too obvious to even realize so. You have been on the sidelines yourself regardless of what you say and if you know the Bishop Amat brass as well as you appear to just make sure they do the right thing. Tell them to hire you too because you just may be the unofficial Pope of Bishop Amat!
I personally would love to see Amat go and get a big fish you'd never think. Such an example would include Mater Dei's Offensive Coordinator Dave Money. He's produced guys such as Matt Leinart, Colt Brenan, and even the first junior to be named State Player of the year in Barkley. He's been under Rollinson's shadow for almost a decade. I'm sure he'd love to rebuild Amat, beat Mater Dei and create a SGV vs. OC rivalry. Call him Msgr. Carrol. When you pay him they "5 star talent" will come. They'll come from all over. Coach Carrol, Neuheisel, and Weis will have your number on speed dial. You'll get his salary back and more in endorsements and ticket sales when Amat is back in the national spotlight. Show Money the "money" and he'll rebuild Amat's program, reputation, and most importantly educational facilities from ticket sales.
Lancer Booster / Alumni,
Cool tour jets with the speculation. The search has been just that - a search. No one is sitting around waiting for random resumes. No way was Layton anywhere near a "first choice", certainly was never "offered" anything. Bogan and Gano, while great coaches, have zero chance of leaving their public school jobs and tenure for the insecurity of a private school post. THere is no one from the West Side that comes close to fitting the bill, so that is not a question. Farrar having retired is in a different situation, but in all honesty. has been slammed a little by one former VP who is now his boss for his role in her husbands eventual ouster as boys basketball coach at Charter Oak (look that one up). There is no love loss there, and while big Lou is a great coach, has a snowballs chance in hell of being considered.
Aguirre and Hagerty have been targeted from the start because they are two of the most qualified candidates out there and both have a a firm understanding of lancer past and the expectations. We can only hope that it is "same old same old". Hagerty coached at amat during an era where there was a string of ELEVEN consecutive League Championships, then he left to take over a struggling program and won THREE consecutive CIF Titles at Paraclete- before finally getting another as a coordinator at JW North. Aguirre became the head coach at Garfield in the early '90s and was featured on the front page of the LA Times for his work there (look that one up-it was a GREAT article.) before coming to amat as an assistant when his son was a student. After coaching with Tom Salter during their successful run he went to Carson and won two CIF City Championships at the highest level possible. Since leaving there he has been an assisatnt commisioner for the CIF_City Section. Pretty good credentials if you ask me - and maybe not a better MAN around.
Is that the "same old same old" that you're talking about? I hope so!
Hmmm! If this passes I wonder what happens to private schools? With their Academic/"Sports" scholarships and easy transfers. It seems to me private schools operate without any of the restrictions public schools have.
LA TIMES
There was also discussion Thursday about private and public schools. There could be a proposal to have separate playoff divisions for private and public schools coming at the March Southern Section Council meeting.
Sure Public schools cost money, but disguising Sports Scholarships as "Academic" does not make for an equal playing field.
Let them play in their own leagues. This is the first step to change. I love it!
Any kid receiving money to attend a school for sports is under violation of CIF rules.
BTW, Why don't we make this an even playing field. Let our public schools offer something for the student to attend their school.
I'm going to get alot of backlash but all you guys know this is the truth.
Sorry I said anything, I should probably stop answering questions :)
Was Farrar just an after thought? You completely forgot to even mention him and some people have made sense since Coach Farrar is retired from teaching he would be a nice fit because he is already receiving the packages that the other two Bogan and Gano will eventually get from their respected schools which I think is part of their pension if I am speaking correctly. If you say, "there are so many coaches who would be good" to whom are you referring to because if nothing else maybe that is what we need is a list of candidates so we don't just interview the ones that have applied but actually recruit coaches like we should start recruiting athletes again. Aram last time even mentioned a few names of coordinators that he thought were qualified candidates. I am just scared that if we go through another rush to judgment we will make the same mistake twice and then Groundhog Day starts over again and again and again...Is there no one from your previous high school area when you were writing the sports section there besides Mooney that you could recommend and promote for the position? What about a college position coach going back down to the high school level? I would consider that a step up to have control but also knows the ins and outs with the college scene between sending kids to the next level as well as using his recruiting tactics down in high school. I just think this hire is critical because if we fail twice then we will legitimately be like a San Fransisco 49ers of high school football. Once in the penthouse now in the outhouse! Lancer fans keep the faith and keep praying for the right thing to happen...
You can forget Gano and Bogan, I have talked with them many times about it. They're both paid well, with great benefit packages, and are part of great traditions. But when you ask them if all things being equal, if Amat provided the money and benefits, would they go for it? They always kind of laugh and look around and usually say something like, "I don't know, it would be tempting." There are so many coaches who would be good, like Mike Mooney, who is now the assistant principal at San Marino. But again, he's probably out of their price range.
FredJ,
Now that was some quality reporting without disclosing anything that would incriminate or jeopardize the relationship you have with Coach Layton but teases us Lancer supporters at the same time. I have heard some conflicting reports from other Lancer faithful but I guess none of us can dispute what Coach Layton himself is saying if he is telling you the truth.
How about Bogan and Farrar? Your article this week about Gano obviously says he never applied for the job or was ever really interested but have the other two inquired or do we have any interest in them as candidates? I keep reading on the blog their two names but myself personally haven't heard anything first hand about either one of them.
I just think if we hire Aguirre or Hagerty we are going back to the same old same old vs. someone else coming in that has recent success and experience and realizes how to win in our Valley and in the playoffs.
What have you heard and what's your opinion? Are we missing anybody that would be a better fit?
The other thing I hear is that Amat wants an "Amat" guy, which is someone who played or coached there before. What I found interesting is that AD Manzo told me has little to do with the hiring of its next coach. He said it's the Monsignor's call, which is why the next coach will probably be a former Amat person.
I've had conversations with Layton, most of which I won't share because I told him I wouldn't. He's the kind of guy who can talk high school football all day. He embraces the Amat tradition, and wonders what it would be like to coach at a place where the possibilities are endless, which is the advantage of a private school, especially the private gem in the SGV. On the other hand, he likes what he's built and what he has coming back at Diamond Ranch, and thinks he can win a CIF championship next year in the Southwest Division. Nobody can blame him for having conversations with Amat, and as far as I know, the job was never offered to him. I'll talk to him again this week and let you know if there is anything new to report.
FredJ,
What about Diamond Ranch's head coach? He himself on the blog insinuated there is a story there ready to be told and he is maybe even willing to share the inside information with us fans if and only if you would be willing to do some more investigated reporting. Something tells me he was offered the job but did not accept and I want to know why he said no because to me there has to be a reason why and unfortunately none of know the truth. Please makes us understand the situation and anyways how will either Aguirre or Hagerty feel once they learn regardless of who gets the job that they were the second choice.
I don't mind sharing something from the L.A. Times ... Jaime Cardenas, the Times' SGV writer, gave this blog a lot of love on their site during fall football. To answer your question, my guess is that the Amat job will either go to Steve Hagerty or John Aguirre.
Outside of the LA Times, this is indeed the place to get all the prep sport info first and fast ! Good job Fred !
BTW, what about Randall ? Were there issues surrounding his departure ? I mean, you just don't "can" a winner...humm...Any possibilities on the Amat job ? Just wondering here...
