Bball fan
i was talking about league records.
that bonita game is non league
hey sgvpride i believe walnut's freshman team didnt go undefeated. bonita's freshman team played them twice and beat them by over 30 points each time. so yea bonita has one of the only undefeated freshman team around. their jv team only lost 3 games as well as the unbelievable varsity team. so yea bonita killed it this year and their varsity team will go deep into playoffs
I've got a question? Didn't the starting point guard start out at Diamond Ranch playing with that Big Man everyone's talking about Cunningham I think his name is?
When I saw him in a Chino Hills uniform i almost fell over...or was that his twin?
Just Asking.
As far as the Sierra League being strong or weak...the playoffs will tell the real story. Last year Damien was hot to trot and was bounced out at home. Looks like this year's team has better chemistry than last year with everyone pulling for Trevor seeing as he was a non factor for 3 years and now is the GO TO GUY. Cameron Murruy can obviously do miracles because Trevor is a new man. He's not the Sierra League MVP but he's at least it's Most Improved Player...EVER! Don't get mad that's a compliment.
We'll see what happens this year. Damien has 1 playoff win in 4 years and is 1-4 in the playoffs with 2 of those loses coming at home.
Glendora seems to have been figured out by West Covina..They haven't been the same since they lost at APU. Or maybe it was Tiger being tired carrying that team. With a week's rest Tiger comes back to form and hits more shots. 2 makes more against DHS and it's a 1 point win instead of fouling out and losing by 2 that became 4 with late freethrows on fouls to stop the clock. Great game by the way.
Chino Hills is tough but we'll see . The pairings come out Sunday and hopefully Sierra represents well..
To Blah Blah Blah,
Lavern Lutheran is having a good year but your
naive to come on here and say that Lutheran would beat teams like Glendora by 20 or Bonita by 15 or any other top ten team by 25 points. Lutheran hasn't played any team the caliber of the top ten teams in the SGV, so how could you compare? With the cakewalk schedule they have there is no way to tell how good Lutheran is. For this reason alone they shouldn't be ranked in the top ten.
Those in the Sierra League who are thinking of knocking off the back-to-back basketball champions, Chino Hills, should know that the CHHS JV team went 23-1 and was the undefeated league champion. And the Huskies return three varsity starters. Don't see to be any drop off there.
Lutheran Fan,
First of all people were talking about freshman teams. Your third leading scorer is a senior and two of your top players are sophomores, which means they are not freshman. Second, you guys played worse than a freshman schedule. There are junior high teams better than the schools you played. You chose which tournaments you enter regardless of who will schedule games with you. Choose tournaments that real teams play in and we'll see what your made of. As of now your state ranking on Max Preps is 349 which should put you at the bottom of the top 10. You don't realize that playing a patty cake schedule allows you to play awful and still win. There are teams that will play you if you look around. Come talk when you have beat somebody.
La Puente high school football and basketball league champions.first time in school history both sports won league.
DR Fan,
As a BONITA fan, let me first thank you for your kind words about the team & coach. BONITA's players & fans would also acknowledge the fine team, and program, at Diamond Ranch.
Secondly, I think your observation about the seating at Bonita's gym as a contributing factor is absolutely right. There is no doubt that separating the fans would help do away with a lot of what happens.
However, despite the obvious wisdom of your comment, past efforts to enlarge the gym to accomodate seating on both sides, has been met a very formidable opponent: money.
I attended a Glendora at Ayala playoff game in the past and, thankfully, that gym has the 2-side seating configuration. That game was loud, tension-packed and brutal. Fans entered and left on separate sides. That was the smartest thing they could do to avoid the overflow of emotions into the packed crowd.
Schools, like Bonita, if they cannot afford to expand the gym, need to come up with better "fan separation" techiniques. This appears to have been a big factor in the DR game thing. It's a problem waiting to happen not only at Bonita, but other schools with one-side seating.
But I have to add that DRanch is perhaps MORE guilty of the problem you correctly point out. DRanch, with this beautiful new gym, that has seating available on BOTH sides, only used ONE side at the Bonita game recently. Anyone who had been at the first game between these teams could have seen this was a bad idea. DRanch appeared to make a good effort to control things, but one could question the sanity of lining up young girls along the sideline to act as a buffer near the end of the game. Why not just use the other side? The sad part is that you HAVE 2-sided seating and did not use it, against a heated, league rival.
And, because a Bonita fan has taken a beating on this board, it's only fair, then, to point out how one DRanch fan can go too far also. As a Bonita coach (not from the boy's basketball teams) was leading a "B-O-N-I-T-A" cheer during the game's final, heated minutes, he was approached and assaulted by a DRanch fan, apparently a student or student-aged. He was removed from the gym, but apparently was able to sneak back in again. This person, although completely unacceptable, did not injure the coach but it gives some balance to the 2 school's, fan behavior. In virtually ANY large crowd, the law of averages says there's going to be those who get caught up in the emotions & cross the line.
Part of the excitement of high school sports is the passion, the rivalries and the emotions. And although most of us show up at these games to yell, cheer & boo without crossing the line, it seems that more common-sense efforts need to be made, as you suggest, to proactively prevent the chances of any such incidents in the future.
I have read all the talk about Bonita boys basktball and their fans. Here is what I have seen over the years. First, I think Bonita boys basketball runs a class program. Coach Eckler should be a candadate for SGV Coach of the Year. He would get my vote. In general I love the following that Bonita has and how loud and crazy their fans get. I wish more schools in the area had that much school spirit and pride. As far as the incident with at the DR game goes. This is not the first incident with parents at a Bonita game. I think they should look at the real problem. There is a reason that they put fans on opposite sides of the gym at basketball games. It seems to me they are asking for trouble when games are so emotional, and the people are so close. Does anyone remember seeing the picture of those parents fighting at the volleyball game in the fall? That almost never happens when people are on opposite sides of the gym. I think maybe it's time for those schools with bleachers on one side to look at that issue. Maybe they should take a look at what South Hills did to their gym. It went from an out dated cracker box to one fo the nicest gyms in the area. You are always going to have a couple of idiots at games. At least it would be harder to hear them from across the gym. And it would be much easier for their administraters to ID who they are.
FRESHMEN........YOU PEOPLE REALLY LIVE IN LA LA LAND!!!! BONITA FRESHMEN........OTHER FRESHMEN ON ANY FRESHMEN BBALL TEAM GOOD??? YEAH RIGHT!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!! LA VERNE LUTHERAN HAS 3 FRESHMEN STARTERS AND 2 SOPH STARTERS!!! 6TH MAN IS A FRESHMAN. THOSE 4 FRESHMEN WOULD BEAT ANY FRESHMAN OR JV TEAM 4 ON 5!!! U WANA SEE REAL BASKETBALL.........WATCH THEM!! ON THE VARSITY LEVEL LUTHERAN IS 20 POINTS BETTER THAN GLENDORA, 15 BETTER THEN BONITA AND 25+ BETTER THAN ANY OTHER TOP 10 TEAM IN THE VALLEY!!!! ASK ANY OF YOUR "HERO" VARSITY LEVEL HEAD COACHES WHY THEY DIDNT TAKE UP THE OFFER TO PLAY THEM??? CAN YOU SAY SCARED???
speaking of freshman teams
Walnuts freshman team i believe went undefeated in league. the only team to come close to beating them was west covina and that was by 2. i heard it was a whole travel ball team? does anybody know where that talent came from? because its not homegrown!
West Covina gets their 5th straight win vs Walnut, that makes them 19 & 8 for the season, they will go in as the 3rd place team in the San Antonio, so unfortunately it will be a tough road in the playoffs, the good news is they are one of the hottest terams in the valley right now
so anything can happen, Good luck Bulldog!!!
GHS Hoops....you're probably right. Tiger was off yesterday and never really made the adjustment to take Cory off the dribble. He would have fouled out by the 3rd Q...but props to Cory he did his job. He's not a good shooter but did hit the 3 that pushed Damien ahead. So that's that. As far as Woodlnd goes the key I believe is to run any offense thru whoever he's guarding or make him run by making his man the cherry picker. His shot is OUTRAGEOUS but his conditioning and defense is still coming along. Major Props to his Dad for coaching at the school and giving his son a chance to shine. That's not a slight just the facts.
I still like the Bonita freshmen to be the team to beat for the next couple of years in the SGV. They are quick, fast, shoot well and are excellent athletes. They have now played together as a unit for at least 5 years...that's incredible chemistry and role knowledge for that team.
ut back to Glendora, Le Duc is a STUD and a Gentlemen and whatever he decides and whatever he has he'll bring it with class and dignity. Best to the big man that missed that last second shot. He played a great game against Austin all night and has nothing to be down about.
Like I said best of luck to both teams.
Glendora/Damien game was another classic with a great crowd. The Tartans just didn't do enough in the end. Ref screwed up when he called Tiger for a 5th foul. Must have forgot that he had 4 and assumed he was trying to foul. Oh well, we still had a great shot at tying it, but our guy just missed the layup. We needed to get a win for momentum sack, but Damien was desperate for a win. It didn't end up changing Glendora's spot as the #2 team in league, but might drop us a couple of possition in the seeding. We still need to minimize the mistakes, but the playoffs are a chance at a second life and we have proved the we can beat good teams (only team in league to beat Chino Hills). Of the 9 leagues in our division, the Sierra is ranked #3 in overall strength, so I see our teams doing some damage.
Mean Machine, the Tartan Freshman went 10-0 in league & 20-4 overall and the varsity has 6 guys in their 9 man rotation coming back next year. They will still be a top of the division team the next few years, even with mostly homegrown talent. Mark my words.
Quite my point #1 fan. Greg Burns what has he done besides a minor league assignment. He will never get to the bigs and has failed miserably in the minors. Dont ut too much into that. Are you a Girl or boy because the way you pull for the girls squads you may be questioning your gender. Sounds like competeing at the HS boys level scares you so you play outside the HS level. Stop the excuses and get on the field and Man up. Check mate tells me youe a chess player dreaming of being a athlete.?
Fred
No press on your #3 and #4 teams in the area. Your fish wrap sports page is horrible. Buy the way Damien beat Glendora. Chino Hills has won leauge.
Case and point. Way to go to Walnut girls basketball, soccer, and water polo teams undefeated league champions.
Boys soccer on a second place
Sorry boys basketball maybe next year you can win one game in league.
check mate
Dean Kissenger
Sorry to tell you this but Walnut is not where would want to go to play baseball. I have A', and B'. Talking to Grag Bruns. He was seen at Weekend travel ball game. Not Walnut games. All them kids that sign are football players. Not one from Walnut. I know of girl that is signing from Walnut, because the girl teams are very good. They was seen on their club team first.
Saw Damien for the first time tonight. Austin is a true leader. The guy was banging ALL NIGHT LONG! The rest of the team is what Damien has always been. Slow, methodical and TOUGH ON DEFENSE.
Any team that runs will have their way with this team. The half court is where Damien shines. The plays are simple but the players are disciplined and in the end SIZE MATTERS. As far as Woodland goes...the kid can shot! Never saw him dribble more than 2 bounces of the basketball but you've got big screens and a big man in the middle so that's not what's asked of him. Also I thought #20 deserve more PT. Kid was tough, aggressive and clutch.
One thing that struck me after seeing ALL team levels is Damien will lose no more than 1 League game for the next couple of years. The League is DOWN and Damien is finally getting some serious athletes who can play the game. JV players #12, #20 and #22 are ballers as well as 3 curent freshmen who are pretty talented.
Couple that with what I think will be Coach LeDuc's last year....maybe he waits for Gonzalez but I doubt it. He's wasted at the Freshmen level though...and that's telling. The man has lost his fire and "players" and it shows. Nothing much at the lower levels and well he's been doing it a LONGGGG time. He has a bevy of former players as assitants so like Roche from Chino Hills and Monger from Chino every great coach has his time and The Great LeDUc has had his.
But I will give Coach Le Duc credit...his players play hard, are well coached, well conditioned and best of all ...play like a team. But where are the PLAYERS?
Damien I believe might have helped themselves in a big way in the pairings with this win. Glendora however might have let one get away. Best of luck in the playoffs to both teams.
Anyone know aything about Ayala and Coach Gregory?
Bonita's freshmen team is pretty good. Someday they may be one of the best teams Bonita has ever had. The majority of those players own a debt of gratitude to Carroll Wheatley who started the La Verne Stars team, a couple of years ago, that is essentially the entire Bonita Freshmen team. They went undefeated in their Summer Program and continued their winning ways during the preseason and League. That's undefeated for their Freshmen year! Pretty impressive.

Bonita has a solid program hands down. Just as the comment below said yes all 3 teams one the tough miramonte league today. so looks like Bonita will continue excellent basketball for years to come. Congrats to all 3 teams.
Thanks, Bearcat. 2 sides to every story I guess.
BTW, Bonita beat Los Altos tonight to go undefeated in the tough, Miramonte league. Congrats to the Bearcat & Coach Eckler.
Also, BTW, congrats to the entire Bonita basketball program. The freshman team went undefeated, the JV finished at 18-3 and the varsity finished at 24-3. The "program" went an solid 62-6. Each "won league" with only one league loss between the 3 teams when the DRanch JV beat the Bonita JV earlier in the season.
Here's hoping you have continued success in the playoffs.
Go Panthers,
I was also at the DRanch @ Bonita game and the incident of which you speak was a large misunderstanding. DR's # 23 was taunting Bonita's players as they were bringing the ball up court. He made gestures to the fans when they called him on it. That kind of player deserves all the crap he got. However, despite his display of poor sportsmanship, including being restrained by his own coach after the game, and being kept from going through the "high five" line at the end, even he would never deserve to be subject to any "racist comment". At the end of the game, as #23 was being restrained by his own coach, flailing his arms and being kept in the corner of the gym, a fan yelled at him that he was a "bush leaguer". That term has been around sports for decades & refers to a person who is not ready for the level he's playing at, usually because of his poor sportsmanship or attitude. That fit #23 perfectly. However, that term, uttered in a noisy gym, at the end of a tough loss, has the same unfortunate SOUND as a derogatory, racist remark. That man never used a racist remark but I can see where the confusion started. It is my understanding that fan actually called the Principal of DRanch, explained himself and how the misunderstanding happend. You can call him rude if you want, just as he can call #23 a jerk or a "bush leaguer" if he wants. But nothing racist happened & it would be wrong for your comments or perception of what happened to stand without rebuttal.
I can tell you that like the players, 99% of the people from Bonita respect DRanch & their program.
Even if he went a little too far, you cannot indict an entire school over any one person's actions because THAT would be discrimination. No one at Bonita would tolerate racism directed towards a DRanch player or anyone else.
Just my .02
nogales wins san antonio league title outright
nogales 52
south hills 50
although it almost wasnt be
down 8, with a minute left, south hills put a full court press and caused three consecutive turnovers to trim the lead to 52-50
congratulations nogales
#1 fan,
play Travel ball? Whats that getting you instead of playing for HS. If you read this blog you can see the kids signing letter to colleges because they played HS sports. I do not think recruiters waste their time going to Travel baseball games on Sat. and Sundays. You will end up playing in the Enchilada Beer drinking sunday leagues one day. Your wasting your time with Travel as well as not enjoying the HS moments of sports. get with it if there is still time for you unless you have horrible grade which may be the case. Step it up play-ah!
Hey, what Bonita fans call "extra spirit" we call rude and racist comments. I was at that Diamond Ranch / Bonita game and witnessed first hand the Bonita fan yelling out to the DR players by their #s and almost getting jumped after he yelled out a rascist comment at the end of the game. Maybe he wasn't banned but at least he was smart enough not to show up to the next DR/Bonita game.
I agree that the Bonita team is great but several of the fans make the rest of the them look bad. Someone needs to tell those guys to show some respect and shut up.
BONITA has the worst fans? OMG, dude you got issues. Sure, they are loud at times and as spirited as any other school, but you're facts are wrong. EVERY school has some fans with a little "extra spirit", but you're just gossiping now. But NO DAD or anyone else has been banned. BONITA, and their fans, have to deal with an unfortunate side of being a winner; disgruntled fans of the losing team stirring up trouble, blaming the refs, players or Bonita fans. NO one has claimed BONITA to be anything but the top team rated on this site's poll, so far. BONITA fans are understandably excited this season, thus far, because the value of many of those wins comes from the quality of their opponents. BONITA respects every school, every team and every fan's right to pull for their team; and that includes your right to make such stupid, unfounded remarks.
Bonita has a great basketball team but the worst fans ever. Absolute lack of class and an embarrasment to the school. I even heard one of the dads was banned from the rest of the season's games due to inappropriate comments yelled from the stands in one of their previous games. How sad.
Mustang Parent sorry to tell you that I go to Walnut. I don't think so. No I don't do water polo or swim. I play travel ball and the it. I will not wast my time with that team. The best team Walnut got is the girls teams. There is no QB at Walnut. So go girls sports. one more thing Girls waterpolo 10 CO 6
George Matar - You wasted 7 1/2 inches of space with your crybaby post. Why is it that certain schools always cry about the bad referees and horrible fans WHEN THEY LOSE!!! Not to mention that Bonita beat you without Tanner Zylstra's rebounding and great defensive play for the entire 4th quarter. In hustling for the ball, some players ended up on the floor and Tanner was the unlucky one with his forehead split open. It took 24 stitches to "sew" it back together. Get real and accept the fact that you lost to a great team and be thankful they didn't beat you by more than 4 points.
Wow, Look at West Covina they have won 6 of the last 7 and almost 5 straight with a easy win over a struggling Walnut team tomorrow. They have a strong leader in Kerry Carter and he leads that team with not a lot of size to a great defensive team, and a pretty darn good fast pace offense.
Well me going back to Glendora, but having to give credit where it is due, had another loss away at Ayala.(So the Debate comes up about still being #3) Baylon had his normal 15 points, but they just out played Glendora. Glendora had 18 TO to Ayala's 6, and got way too many offensive 2nd chances. Glendora's Big man did foul out in the 3rd, and a questionable call with Glendora up by 1 with 30 seconds left, which gave Ayala the ball under the basket for the chance to win, and LeDuc had 4 full timeouts left and with 6 seconds and down by 1 he doesnt use one to draw up a play. But you can't really question a man with 500+ wins under his belt.
Tomorrow will show us something about Glendora and if they can step up and hold the #2 spot in Sierra League, and beat Damien; The Bitter Enemy.Last game was close and i predicted it 45-50 and it turned out 41-48. So i am pretty confident when i say Glendora by 9 52-43. As much as i hate damien Trevor Woodland can shoot from anywhere and Austin N is a big force down low that can also step out and make the 3. So Tartans better come ready to play and fix the little things before CIF and they lose and go home in early February, instead of Early March, like they are used to.
hoops
nogales also won against diamond ranch
=D
i dont know about you but i like the ranking ;)

West Covina is now 18 & 8 with a 68 to 53 win over South Hills yesterday, Bulldogs have caught fire since their win over Glendora and coud play with any team in the SGV at this time, keep the focus Bulldogs!!!
Bonita defeats Charter Oak by 4. Remain unbeaten in Miramonte League headed into final game vs. Los Altos on Thursday. Way 2 go Bearcats.
(Tanner Zylstra gets 24 stitches in bloody collision chasing a loose ball- Get well soon Tanner)
PMP,
Is that you Scott?
See you in six weeks (and a day).
#1 fan,
I guess your kid plays those sports Swim and Waterpolo. Well my kid plays football and baseball and will play Varsity for the first time this year in both sports. I would not count out our baseball team this year, we are bringing up players to mix with our existing players and we will compete this year and shut up allot of loudmouths on this blog and at the campus. I will admit South Hills is the team that brings the most talent in football and baseball in the San Antonio but this year in football and baseball we will be evenly matched with the rest and it is anybody's league to win or lose. We will prove you wrong this year #1 fan. Water sports are not the only sports Walnut has going for them.
Walnut girl basketball kick Rowland butt
Walnut Boys basketball got their butts kick by Rowland. Why does Walnut have boys team anyway. The only thing they are good in is Water polo, and swim
Alexandra Quincey from St. Lucy's is the most legit freshman in the area, shes hangin in there with those two girls from ayala
FRED you have got to check out SWING CHUIANG of LOS ALTOS, First Team All Valley....
Walnut gets spanked by 26pts. to Amat and are #3? I mean Amat is good but a 26pt loss should drop you out of the top 5.
Can you post the CIF Rankings for Northview's Boys & Girls? Thank You!
Did the boys fall from 7 to 8 on your rankings? why? Glad to see the girls made the top 10
CONGRATULATIONS VIKINGS!
Wow, Nogales loses to W. Covina and stays at #2.
