Can someone please explain to me how the coach from Ayala still has a job? Am I the only one who noticed he had just been to happy hour? This has been a constant complaint yet the Admin fails to investigate, why?
Good luck Nogales, for you guy's to beat Serrano twice say's something about your team, our Bulldogs couldn't pull it off Friday, Serrano look real good.
Two CIF Champions crowned tonight.
Bishop Amat's Andrew Ortega and Julian Silva.
i agree with you, fan
but aside from myself, you and chris, there dont seem to be that much love for nogales out there
i know theyve been struggling ... okay they 'suck' in football (but that was not the case in the early 90s) their basketball has always been consistently very good.
i see rowland as a nogales clone and it is rowland and walnut who played them the best from what i seen.
even the serrano coach gave nogales props and said that they 'shot better' than west covina, so even though nogales is smaller than serrano, they found some other way to beat them, not once but twice
so keep it up...
oh how i see a quarter or semi-final appearance in CIF for them
go team =D
Everyone keeps talking about Rowland, Diamond Ranch, Serrano, and so on, but it seems to me they forgot Nogales beat all these teams. Nogales is a very underrated team by everyone on this post and outside of it. You guys need to accept the fact that Nogales 's basketball program is getting up there or surpassing all these other "big" high school basketball programs.
After reading all the stuff about LV Lutheran. I have a couple of solutions to this debate, and a couple of comments. My solution is for LV LU to schedule some of the top teams in the area. Maybe they should get in the San Dimas, Glendora, or Arroyo Tournaments next year. Winning one of those Tournaments would give them some street cred. I have never seen them play, but 25-0 is an impressive record. That coach is doing a great job of getting players in there. I just hope he sticks around for a few years, and is not another one of those guys who takes his ball and leaves once he sees he can't be on top year after year. Let's also remember that we are talking about a private school without great facilities. It would be nice to see the little guys (as in schools) raise up and take on some of the top teams in the area. I know that if they can knock off the likes of a Glendora, Chino Hills, Diamond Ranch, or Bonita they would most certainly have my attention. In closing I will say this. Good Luck LV LU. You youngmen have a chance to be perfect this season. It doesn't matter where you play. Not many of us have had the perfect season. So ain't mad at ya.
Bla Bla Bla,
You speaking to me in a different language, I simply said that these kids are not as good as those other teams RIGHT NOW. Yes they have some very good players. NO UCLA or USC type, but possibly a D-1 athlete or two (Cal State Fullerton). Not once did I say Rowland or Diamond Bar were good and that was my point. I hear all this nonsense about La Verne Lutheran BBall being the best in the Valley cause they are 25-0 and the ability to beat a team like Bonita, absolutely false. They are a great group of freshman and sophomores so I guess that justifies the freshman and sophomore teams they seem to play.
Also, I don't give a crap about travel ball or recruiting phone calls, that doesn't mean a thing either. READ the post more carefully before flipping out.
Lutheran WILL BE A VERY VERY GOOD TEAM in years to come, but this team I saw yesterday would struggle to beat La Puente.
KEEP TALKING ABOUT ALL YOUR TOP 10 TEAMS IN THE VALLEY. WHEN THE REST OF THE TOP 10 TEAMS LOSE, YOU WILL BE FORCED TO READ ABOUT LUTHERAN. ROWLAND SUCKS, DIAMOND BAR SUCKS, LOS ALTOS SUCKS, AND WHOEVER MADE THE COMMENT MUST BE SOMEONE WHO NEVER PLAYED BASKETBALL AT A COMPETITIVE LEVEL!!! CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT SCHOOLS IN THE TOP 10 HAVE KIDS GETTING RECRUITED BY ANY DIVISION ONE COLLEGE BASKETBALL PROGRAMS? AND NOT THE CORNY LETTERS THAT HAVE THE "STAMPED" SIGNATURE OF THE COACH??? BET YOU GUYS DIDN'T KNOW THAT EITHER HUH? THESE KIDS GET PERSONAL PHONE CALLS DURING THE RECRUITING PERIOD, HAND WRITTEN LETTERS FROM UCLA,USC, STANFORD, AND ANY OTHER PAC 10, OR BIG EAST PROGRAM. SO HATING ALL YOU WANT. I WILL KEEP LOOKING AT THESE POSTS EACH WEEK AND SEE YOUR NEW EXCUSE EACH WEEK AS OUR BELOVED "TOP 10" TEAMS WITH THESE GREAT DIVISION 9, JC, OR SHOULD I SAY THE LAST BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE FOR THESE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PLAYERS LOSE. SAME PEOPLE COMPLAINING ARE THE SAME PARENTS WHO PROBABLY COACHED THERE KIDS IN YOUTH BALL FROM 9-13 YEARS OLD. IS THAT WHY EVERYONE THINKS THERE KIDS ARE GOOD? YOUTH BALL??? LOL!!! OH WAIT, IS IT NJB, OR NOTHIN BUT NET??? LOL! THAT'S YOUR IDEA OF TRAVEL BALL!! OH WAIT, ARE THESE KIDS EVEN GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY THAT? ISN'T THAT "TRAVEL BALL" TO YOU PEOPLE? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! SORRY, NJB, TOUTH BALL, AND NOTHIN BUT NET ARE ALL LEAGUES FOR NON POTENTIAL DIVISION 1,2 PLAYERS. TRAVEL BALL DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU LEAVE YOU LEAVE DIAMOND BAR AND DRIVE TO ORANGE COUNTY FOR A GAME!!! LOL! HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A DIVISION ONE COACH IN YOUR GYMS? WOW!!!! IM DONE!!!!
Question for any of you Charter Oakians? How does Charter Oak win in football and baseball and again loses in basketball this year after bringing in supposedly a top basketball coach? Makes no sense to me..!
Go Bonita!
Oh you lost. that sucks.
chris
their = serrano
dude chris
you should have see the west covina game
their #50 dude was an animal
he had 6 dunks
i was like
"they dunk in high school"?
;)
Very nice win by the Tartans. 2 Sierra league teams in the 2nd round as predicted, but NEARLY 3 as Ayala almost pulled off the upset of the division. They lost by ONE to Rancho Cucamonga 84-83. Wow, I'd like to know what happened in that one. Speaking of what happened, What's up with Bonita OUT in the FIRST ROUND??!! Ouch. Nice wins by Northview and DRanch.
Nogales is the last San Antonio league team left
Rowland got crushed 90-42 ouch.
To answer Fred's question, I'd guess it was like 35 for Dom tonight. They didn't need all of them though as Glendora won going away 80-69. A lot of 3's in this one by both teams. One of the better games the Tartans have played against a very solid team. El Toro will be a nightmare for them though.
west covina lost, we just couldnt stop their bigs....good game and GREAT Year BULLDOGS!
Nogales advances to the 3rd round.
OK,
La Verne Lutheran
...Don't get me wrong, they have an impressive group of Freshman and Sophomores no doubt. HOWEVER, there is nnoooooooooooo way they are in the upper echelon of teams, even in this valley! They are athletic, young, energenic and have a nice sized big man in the middle, but their age really shows.
How does a team go 25-0 and not get even get close to a at a top 5 team in this valley? Well, I saw a first round 15-8 opponent, way too close at the half (18 pt lead). This 15-8 team (highland?) was THE worst team I have EVER seen in high school basketball. No exaggeration either. I honestly thought I was watching saved by the bell where the 'studs' play the 'geeks'.
Don't confuse me though, this Lutheran team will be a force to be reckoned with for the next few years and are definately headed in the right direction, but if this same team plays Diamond Bar, Los Altos and Rowland high school, they lose at least 3 games.
If Lutherans opponent tonight plays Los Altos, Diamond Bar or Rowlands JV teams, not to mention Bonita's freshman team, they lose by (NO JOKE) 50 pts.
covinabballfan,
Tanner is a terrific kid, but then you know that from having some at home.
Best of luck this season.
Dom will need a solid game, but they don't need a basket load of points from him to win. 25 or so with a good percentage, along with a few assists should do it. If the other guys just do their job, it should be a nice win for the Tartans. It's CIF time, which is GHS time.
I wish I were going to the Bonita game (nephew on the team - Zylstra) instead of the Covina-Corona Santiago game. I'm sure it will be ugly!
yes, do it
For those who want it, I will post halftime info on the Bonita-Hoover game
