Boys Soccer: Thrillers and Heartbreakers

GOAAAALLLLLL! Mountain View's super striker Jairo Aquino came through again.
The Thriller: In Thursday's CIF-SS Division V boys soccer semifinal, Mountain View's Jairo Aquino scored his 33rd goal of the season, converting in the 65th minute to give the Vikings a 2-1 quarterfinal victory over visiting La Canada.
The Heartbreaker: Just four minutes from taking its playoff chances to penalty kicks, the La Puente boys soccer team found themselves in disbelief after Hesperia’s Wualfre Gomez scored the game-winner in the fourth overtime, converting a corner kick from Mario Cisneros in the 117th minute to give the Scorpions a 1-0 quarterfinal win. I felt terrible watching it, the Warriors played their hearts out.
Heartbreak II: Sierra Vista was seconds away from advancing to the semifinals. Then Andrew Bierschenk stepped into the picture. Bierschenk scored from the middle of the penalty area with 10 seconds to play to force overtime and Oaks Christian then got goals from JP Herold and Aidan Leonard to score a 4-3 victory over the Dons.
If the Glendora basketball team's comeback against El Toro was the thrill of victory, then what Sierra Vista experienced today was definitely the agony of defeat.
