Football: Wilson still searching for football coach

Now that Bishop Amat has hired Steve Hagerty to succeed Mark Verti, when Wilson name its replacement for Robert Oviedo? The only name I've heard mentioned, and I've heard it a few times, is former Amat coach Mike DiFiori. They better make a decision soon, I would hate to see Wildcats running back Tim Gilmore leave town. I keep hearing the Gilmore to St. Paul rumors, I just don't know how serious they're.

Wilson vs LA ??

I like both teams and attended many of their games in 07.

Not sure which WILSON vs LA game the Wildcat fanatics attended, but the game I saw was very *close*, with Wilson SQUEAKING-BY at the last minute.

In fact, during the closing minute, LA had the ball with a chance to win...you could've heard a pin drop.

I think losing Oviedo will be a big loss for the Wildcats, and sadly I believe Gilmore will move to greener pastures...

Good luck to both in 08, we'll need it.

MIRAMONT lEAGUE RANKINGS 2008

1. CHARTER OAK
2. BONITA
3. DIAMOND RANCH
4. WILSON
5. Los ALTOS

problem is wilson has no O-line

bunch of kids that get pushed around

I heard that San Dimas D-Coordinator might get the job. If this is true, then they will have one good young coach who could point the program in the right direction. He's an intense dude!

Is it Local Football? or LOCO football? that you call yourself.

Amat has 5-8 deep in skilled position players coming back this coming season. You have what one? Gilmore. He cannot do it all and like Bryce McBride he will get blown out (injury)if this is the case. You talk about Wilsons High Powered Offense. What is their defense about? you need to play D in HS football as well. I agree, Wilson can play with and beat Los Altos this year but to measure against a D1 Amat is not necessary given your workload is all centered around one player. Gilmore. Dont become a fan like the one from Los Altos that comes in here and measures themselfs against Amat. Amat would tear Wilson a new one, and that is with Gilmore. Retract what you said about Amat because you are giving the Wilson following a bad name.

I look at the football programs in this area and the only one that looks like it is going to compete next year is Wilson. With any type of passing game and Gilmore the offense is going to be unstoppable. Sounds like a real bold statement being Wilson has no coaching staff, but look at LA they haven’t had coaching in years and they can still win CIF titles. At the D6 level LA won four CIF titles on Cody and Harwell backs.

Both LA and Bishop Amat have no skilled players returning next year compared to the talent at each of their respected divisions. With the season that LA and Bishop Amat had last year who’s going to want to transfer into one of those programs. It is going to take Bishop a couple of years to build the program up, but the talent pool in the area is very limited.

I listen to all these LA and Bishop Amat parents on this blog trying to talk parents to transfer their kids to their school. Unless you son is a Gilmore then you are wasting your time.

Amat Salute to Athletic Excellence dinner? That must have been a short dinner. Why would Fred waste his time at an a** kissing event like that?

Really Joe not many on this blog care about a bunch of old men getting together and kissing butt about the past. I guess all you can do is look back because the future at Amat doesnt look good at all.

We haven't had any updates on the Amat Salute to Athletic Excellence dinner on Saturday yet - so I thought that I'd bring one. Fred, you should have been there and at worst call the school and get a copy of the DVD so you get a feel for the 50 yrs of history and the story behind each Championship year. It would be great to have as a resource for future stories.

There was a lotta love going on in the gym that night with over 500 guests(@$50/plate) and the chance to hear the legends like Cantwell, Marinovich and McLaughlin, former pros like Adrian Young and John Sciarra, as well as the more recent coaches, speak made it worth every penny. All were, amazingly really good speakers and should hit the circuit. Some great and entertaining stories, some motivational statements about the special place that Amat has been, the tributes to Lancer Coaches that are now in a Better Place, plenty of memorabilia, and some great jokes made for a spectacular evening.

The impromptu "coaches meeting" in the corner of the Student Activity Center after the event was a telling sign. Some of the old school assistants that have been mentioned were in attendance, so the rumors of Mulvihill return and others is a done deal. It will be a good mix of veterans and young blood. But the renewed attitude and commitment to a great work ethic and physical/mental toughness is what will bring the Lancers back.

The moment that made you squirm was when Mark Verti stepped up to the mike to introduce Coach Salter - that must have been tough, but MV handled it well. Patricio, Parades, and Martinez (all "outsiders' and not originally Amat guys) all talked about how special the place was and "always being a Lancer".

The feeling at the pre-dinner cocktail party and around the room was reminiscent of the change in attitude in the basketball program when Lokar was hired. THings were a little tough among the players and parents at that time, even though there was some talent. Most of our successful coaching changes have involved an assistant moving up, but these two are old time alumni/former assistants coming home. Hagerty will be the kind of "players coach" that Lokar was for his guys. That "renewed"enthusiasm will be a much needed shot in the arm and the players will play with a different kind of confidence that should show an improved performance.

Lokar did have one of the best jokes of the night when he congratulated Hags on stage and said that getting hired at your alma mater was like dying and going to heaven. So he told a story about him and Coach Leduc from Glendora (he was a former GHS assistant) in heaven with St Peter and LeDuc complaining that he had to stay for eternity in some little cabin while Lokar got a big mansion at the top of the hill that had a big flag with the Amat "A" atop a golden flagpole. St Peter told him that wasn't Lokar's house - it was God's house.(it was longer, more descriptive - and he told it better!)

But the bottom line is - God's a Lancer fan!

Amat football is going to change in alot of ways with the new coach aboard. The climite and attitudes of players play a big part towards the teams success. The boy's that go to Amat and play football know that being a Lancer is a honor and priviledge and their proud and that makes the difference, even if they dont get alot of playing time. Those same boys can play at other schools and start with no problems. I hope the new coach understands that he has alot of talent there from first to the fourth sting players. Just because the returning starters may look better doesn't mean they get a free pass. Alot of players pay their dues with blood and sweat and dont get a chance to play under the lights at Keefer Stadium on friday nights. Give them all a chance coach, you'll be suprised in what you see. Hail the Mighty Men that wear the Blue and Gold. All of them.

ConqAlum,

First of all "Hacienda Blvd" has no nephew, as we all know it is just another LA blogger pulling what Gano taught all the LA parents to do, RECRUIT.

"CATZ"

Have some respect for the "kids" (not men) that are playing HS ball. Calling someone else's child a loser, and not having any gonads only reflects on your own ignorance.

You people need to take a step back, and enjoy the sport for what it is: A game, nothing more.

If your children, nephews, etc... Could hear you spouting off on this blog, they would think much less of you.

To them, you're taking the fun out of the game. And at this stage of their life, that's the only reason they play.

They are getting the kids ready for what coach?
That's right the don't have one.Strange isn't it?

Hey, don't get your chonies in a ruffle!
Relax, I have nothing bad to say about the coaches from HLP. They are really good coaches. The problem is with the top brass at wilson. Now if they gave the job to the freshman coach and his staff, than he would be staying. But they are just jerking his chain he just doesn't see it. Sure, he could be playing at wilson under good coaching in the freshman level. But what than? That staff has no chance on moving up. And they know it.

Sorry, wildcats but that's the truth.

You mean like the ones we saw last year. Last year LA had a few players, this year no coaching and no players.

Wilson, Get ready for some surprises.
LMAO

Hacienda Blvd.,
Does not matter where your kid plays what you must realize is that he will be playing freshman ball to start with from there he goes JV or Varsity unless he s a phenom right now which I doubt. After Freshman ball it does not matter where you came from it is HS ball not Jr. All American or Pop Warner. Take him to Los Altos he sounds like a loser already. get out of your youth area and jump in where the real men play and thats HS ball. he better have the gonads because these HS players can bring it.

Boy it amazes me how many people on this blog have nephew's that played at HLP. This must be the third time with three different reasons why your nephew is going to LA.

First of all the freshman coaching staff at Wilson are returning and the core of the HLP team will be playing at Wilson next year. Alone with the recruits that the HLP players have been working on during the year. My son was on that HLP team and has played ball with these kids for the last 3 or 4 years. All the kids are on MySpace talking back and forth and one of the kids off that HLP team may have changed his mine, but his other option was La Puente not Los Altos.

Don't worry LA, you got the cougars.

I don't think the parents at Amat are ready for Nine Finger "Uncle" Bill "The Thrill" Mulvehill.

Their going to find this funny. You guys at HLP were pushing hard for him. I think their decision is made, and I don't think they are going to change it because you guys feel you know the future at Wilson country. Be honest this is probably wilson last year at being a contender who do they have coming up. No one special besides #3. LMAO sorry, but from the looks of it he has better chance at getting CIF title from a real contender that draws players. And no their decision is final they won't come back.

I hear Haggerty is going to bring back some of the the old staff that built the power Amat once was in the 90's. I heard he is bringing back Bill Mulvehill ex head coach at Rancho Cucamonga. Rich Escalera ex Offensive Coordinator at Amat 99-03. They were both on staff at Amat under Paredes and Salter so they know what it takes to be winners and what Amat football tradition is all about. They would be good hires for the program to get to get back on the winning track once again.

AMAT 73

Classic. Little did I realize I was dealing with a retired Catholic Priest.

U wilson and LA bloggers talk a lot of trash, just remember U still got to play CHARTER OAK and thats your problem

Hacienda Blvd.,

Welcome to Bitc- land. you will learn the hard way I guess. You will be back to Wilson once you get a taste of that low life attittude of Los Altos people. The Wildcats will get a good qualified coach trust me. Gilmore is staying and the team will get to the playoffs again. Los Altos is a thing of the past. Living in their glory years. the run is over. PARENTS GET OVER IT ALREADY.!!!!

The main issue here, Wilson has no coach. My nephew is a incoming freshman that played in HLP and is supposed to be attending Wilson. But with the indecision of selecting a coach, he and his parents have decided to go to Los Altos instead.

Sorry, wildcats

ANY WORD ON ASSISTANT COACHING AT AMAT. 4-5 COACHES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP. INCOMING FRESHMAN START TO SIGN IN MARCH. THEIR PARENTS ARE WAITING TO SEE. ADD A CHRIS RIX AND A KORY MINOR AND THE TALENT WILL FOLLOW. BOTH COORDINATORS ON 0 AND D SIDES NEED FOCUS.

Hey Get a Life and a room, why don't you join us and make it a threesome. We might even get a better rate on the room.

The parents are the most bitter over there in Conq-land. This is going to be one of their worst football seasons and after letting Bishop Amat have it over the past two years it will be Los Altos turn to take the blog beat down on how lousy their team is for the whole damn season. Boy payback is a Mutha F'er. further more our Wildcats are going to hand them their A--ES AGAIN!. Funny thing is they could not beat us last year and they will not beat us this year and their parents come on here claiming they can compete with a D1 Bishop Amat. Give me a break, I am not a Amat person but I know kids that play there and even on a Amat 3 win season like last year Amat would beat Los Altos. It is all blowhard words coming out of those parents over at Los Altos. Amat bloggers are going to roast you this here on the blog when your 2 win ( example:Rosemead and Walnut) season gets going. This blog is going to shread you guys this year.

Another thing why is it that everyone that comes on this blog is an "angered player from Los Altos" or a "parent of a player from Los Altos". Why does LA have so many angered players and parents????????????????????

The lack of intelligence over at LA amazes me. LA gets schooled on the football field this year. Out played and out coached. Their head coach comes on this blog and tells all that he has a real weak team coming back next year, it a rebuilding year.

Now the LA bloggers come on here and talk all this trash about Wilson. We beat you last year, now all you supposed talent is gone and all our talent has another year. Logic says you’re going to get a bigger beating next year.

I find it real interesting how you’re so good but all you do during the off season is attempt to recruit our players. If you spend as much time on the football field practicing as you did on this blog and trying to recruit our players, you may get better.

Wildcat dad,
its obvious youre an angered player from Los Altos.. just let it go and be thankful that youre school was able to dodge defeat for as long as it did. THe fact was that all of Gano's recruiting magic simply ran out this year..

did anybody get any transfers at the semester??

hey fred any idea as to what the candiates are? as well as who is on the hiring committie?

Wildcat Dad & AMAT 73

Valentine's Day is coming up. Why don't you two get a room.

Yeah there is also a rumor that tim will go to
la puente.
hahahaha

Amat 73,
They talk tough and if you put our two teams together here in HH we could not beat you guys and thats why you play D1. Head to head we have Gilmore and he will even be better this year and has added a additional 10 pounds of muscle to him. He wil be a rock and fast as all Hell. We will beat Los Altos again this year count on it.

Wildcat Dad,
If he didn't answer when first posed the question what makes you think he will answer now. Just consider the source now that you beat them they will throw all the words at you like they do to us. Only advantage you have is they have to play you next season and the can dodge us like they have so many years and still try to talk bull.

To all Conqs:
We Amat have come on and have mentioned names of our return players to go along with a good coach and new beginning. This team has talent but it is not known weather they can still get to CIF playoffs with Crespi, Notre Dame and Loyola in their way. You must win 2 out of 3 in this 4 team league and it is tough to do. Amat will have a good team this year but the fact remains can they get by these Monster schools.? Time will tell. On to Los Altos, what players do you have returning and is Gano just going to go thru the motions this year? Most of the talent is gone and that includes the Bishop Amat 3rd string talent , Tamayo,Tillis,McBride to add to Los Altos players Longoria,Maciel,Seanez,Rodriguez etc. What is left over there? even with the above players Los Altos failed to make the playoffs last year and this year can they even get to the playoffs?...No slam but what is left over there off Los Robles street?

ANSWER THIS CONQ. POWER?????

Wilson is a joke and this hiring process proves it. We will never lose to your sorry @$$#$ again!

I sure hope that Gilmore stays no matter what. I feel that it is a big gamble transfering to another school. Look at the Diamond Ranch RB, Aubrey Haynes. He transfered to St. Paul, got lots of write ups, won CIF Div 3... and NO WHERE!!! Only 1 player got a scholarship from a Championship team.... to a Div. 2 School! He was a transfer from Santa Fe. And if I'm correct, both of those schools produced players who went to Div. 1 schools. I'm new to this blogging. I usually read it for entertainment. But after this past season, it seems that transfering is a bad idea. Again, just my point of view.

It’s a joke what is going on at Wilson, Clegg being an old football coach has no clue what it takes to get a football program going in the right direction. I know Coach Merrill would never take this long to select a new head coach.
