Soccer Insight,
You reference 'we' as an organization trying to get expsosure for some players. Who is 'we'?
All the players you mentioned play for Premier Club teams, they should have gotten the exposure from their clubs at the various Showcases.
The self motivated parents & players are going to be the ones with the most options for college at the end.

Valley Dude,
Thank you for the Insight,
When looking at players we look at the whole picture. As I mentioned, we look at more that just stats, We look at their work ethic and ability on the field from tape. This is not a perfect rating system, however this is what we developed to provide some exposure to the girls. I do believe that the coaches who watch these girls play are the best ones who should be making the choices. This is just another tool for them to use in either remembering a player or jogging their memory from a past match.

Soccer Insight,
I give you credit for mentioning players that are deserving of making the first team. But how can you judge a players Speed and/or Intelligence from Stats. You have to take into account the competition. If other teams had the chance to play West Covina, Nogales, Rowland there stats would match those of the players you mentioned. Walnut vs. WC, N, R 36 goals to zero.
That doesn't speak to the ability of Walnut but the lack of talent/coaching from the other teams.
The Biggest determining factor to get selected 'ALL SGV Team" will be the players Coaches. The first team will be picked by the coach(s) that can catch some ear time with the Trib reporters. You would much better serve the process by listing 1 or 2 girls from each team that you think are the best players and then let the process of comparison begin. That would at least give us an idea of what teams you may have watched or are familar with.

These rating are a combination of stats which were found on the internet. Their overall ratings that you are questioning are given for each players performance and ability on the field. Remember stats are just that, and that is not taking them away, however to effectively evaluate a players ability all their skills have to be recognized
Their are more evaluations in process however it takes time to gather the necessary information and view those players that are deserving. If you have a player in mind send the schools name and position and jersey number. If we were at your school in the past 3/4 of game is on tape and we will review it and then send in the rating.

I normally dont post here, but the keeper in the photo is Megan Allaire. Although she is fronted by a strong team, that in NO way takes away from her skills as a keeper. She is quite strong in balance and footwork, enough so that she has an accepted a scholarship to SDSU.

All Walnut stats are on socalsoccer.org for those of you need who need to see them

Hey Soccer Insight...
Tell Coach Hansen to put some stats up on MaxPreps. It's hard to consider her players for all area when there is no data on which to base that decision. And no, your obscure rating system does not count as data.
Thanks-

Casual Observer,
Why don't you start the ball rolling by naming a few player's that 'played for less-than-strong high school teams'. For those others wishing to contribute, please don't slam the less than strong teams. Lets make this about the players.
I'll start with a few that I have seen:
Aliena Dominguez - Wilson Midfielder
Mckenna Gooden - Charter Oak (Power) Forward

The keeper photo currently displayed in the blog at the moment and your request for "Tribune All Area Player" nominees motivated me to submit this comment. I would hope that players submitted for this honor are based on their individual skill levels and not for the team record of their high school. I think there are a number of quality players that may have their skills or contributions minimized or overlooked becuase they played for less-than-strong high school teams. This can be especially true for Keepers. The most complicated position on the fielf is ofter the least understood. Good keepers are efficient in the movements (balance and positioning), strong fundamentals and good footwork. Their skill set makes a lot of saves look routine. On the other hand DFE Keepers (Dive For Effect) look spectacular as the throw themselves at balls. Diving at balls is a last result. Often times, diving to get to a ball becomes a necessity due to poor technique, poor positioning and balance (footwork). It can be difficult to seperate form from flash. I hope the readership keeps this in mind.
