Monday Morning Football

This is great news for football fans. I received an email last week about a new "Scouting Service" for the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire that will be called, "The San Gabriel Valley/Inland Empire Scout Service." Although this is only available to Div. I and II college's on a subscription basis, I'm told they will share a lot of information that we can put on the blog. Next week, they will share the top ten college prospects in the San Gabriel Valley. Let me share the nuts and bolts of this letter.

The goal of the service is to be the "middle man"
between the high school and the colleges. Our service
will only be available to Division 1 and Division 2
colleges on a yearly subscription basis. What our
service will entail are as follows...

1) We will be getting raw high school football game
films from the high school of the potential prospect
to the colleges that are on our service.

2) We will be making "evaluation tapes" (or otherwise
known as highlight tapes) on area prospects so that
colleges can view those tapes on file for usage at
anytime.

3) We will be making sure that colleges are getting
unofficial transcripts daily so that they know the
academic standing of their prospects.

4) We will be providing for the colleges a list of
players that we feel are prospects in the area. They
will be categorized accordingly by our service with
recommendations on whether they are Division 1 or
Division 2 players. Our recommendations are solely to
be shared with the colleges only. They are not to be
viewed by a high school coach.

5) We will be providing for the colleges a complete
evaluation of the prospect from head to tow using the
same scouting forms that are used by National Football
Scouting (one of the two scouting services for the
National Football League). Again, our evaluations are
for usage by the colleges only and not the high school
coaches or their programs.

In ended with this ...
After speaking with many colleges this past year, they
continually informed me that they were finding it very
frustrating that many of the players in the area were
not getting properly evaluated because of the lack of
cooperation from several high schools. With this
service it is our hope that we can make their jobs a
lot easier so that players from our area can get
themselves in position to get a possible football
scholarship.

IN CLOSING: I talked to Wilson athletic director Dave Merrill about the head football coaching position, and though he didn't talk about candidates by name, he did said he was surprised with how many of the candidates were from out of the area. He also confirmed that former Amat coach Mike DiFiori is not among the list that have dropped off resumes, and that they hope to name a coach soon.

I always laugh at these wacko parents who shell out hard earned $ for these scouting services! Listen...if your kid is a player, college coaches WILL find you.

But Fred, if you want to provide these guys with our local info, that's cool. Just don't get caught up in them being experts, because "they ain't". If they were, they sure as heck wouldn't be available to do this thing.

SGV EDUCATOR,

According the California Department of Education, only certificated employees of a school district can legally access student transcripts.

According to coach James at South Hills, he has now going to lead this scouting service and be the middle man.

"According the"

"certificated employees"

"he has now going to lead"

Sounds like you need some EJUUMACATION!

Moron!

You're right but one important piece to add:

Parents have to sign off, or HS will not release them!

Hey Fred,
You should do your legal homework regarding this scouting service. According the California Department of Education, only certificated employees of a school district can legally access student transcripts. According to coach James at South Hills, he has now going to lead this scouting service and be the middle man. Coach James does not have a California teaching credential nor does he have a college degree. Great guy and means well but not qualified in understanding the NCAA Clearinghouse information. That information changes yearly with new requirements that only school counselors and administrators are aware of. No university will take chances with a scouting service that does not have certified or educated personnel. You might want to look more into this matter before this blows up.

Oh yah, what I'd like to be provided is WHO ARE THESE GUY'S? Where is their website? And schools like USC / UCLA / LSU / etc are going to subscribe to their brand new start up service just on SGV players....woo hoo

singldigit said:

This is nuts. These so called "scholarship services" have been cropping up for years and extorting money from unsuspecting parents.

Are we to really believe that a Division I football program is MISSING Division I caliber players because of HS coaches not cooperating.

Bottom line, there is NOT a Division I player in the SGV who get's missed. DI players are not missed. There are however many parents who believe their kid is a DI player - which is NOT the same thing. So go ahead and write your checks.

And ANY service who would take what is written on this BLOG and call it valuable informtion for a College DI program, what are you thinking... that should be a RED FLAG right there.

This is a scouting service ONLY AVAILABLE to colleges on a subscription basis, not for parents or schools to subscribe too. The fact that it is a San Gabriel Valley scouting service is interesting and fun, and I will share some of their information, like who they think are the top ten prospects in our area for next season. What's wrong with that?

Fred keep up the good effort any exposure is a lot better then none. A couple of guys to watch are Evan Williams and Tyler Peri ,Charter Oak returning lineman. both all league and CIF S/w div.

HS coaches are benefitting kids for sure. These programs, ranging from cif football caliber all the way to non playoff golf, all have coaches that are benefitting kids simply by being there. It is a great thing that most of these teachers do giving of their time and they should merit more respect than they do (for those reasons) But the outside entities all have grown so much because the parents have realized over time that hs programs and coaches are what they are and parents and kids have gotten smart and arent only being trained, evaluated, measured, coached by the high schools. They simply have gone out and gotten better help for their personal situations. So like Ive said now 3 times. This is just another example of an outside entity doing the job for kids and parents that the high schools dont and cant. Most of the time this falls right on the lack of quality in the coaching and administration of our high schools. On a side note, you'd be shocked to find out who I was. Ive been there and done that at every level.

Fred

You are just as naive as most parents out there.

Give us a break - what is this a service one of your buddy's is starting up - trying to extort money from parents - and you are trying to help him out with some free pubblicity?

How is this high school sports news?

Damn man - do your job - just report the facts!

pfromgsux is an idiot said:

Hey pfromgsux

why don't you get off your fat ass and do something instead of cutting down people who actually go out and give effort?

"So here comes ANOTHER outside entity to do the job most of these pathetic hs sports programs cant."

What have you ever done to offer up a hand to these so called "pathetic" HS programs? By the way what is your definition of pathetic? Just because someone calls himslef a trainer, camp coach, etc and charges naive people exorbinent amounts of money to "train" their kids does not make them better than someone who actually sacrifices and gives of his/her time and energy to benefit kids.

Like said before - why don't you get off your fat ass and do something ? ou are a piece of $h1t

I guess there is some truth to what Fred has said here and that is that coaches do read this blogg !

Also, who's that cute doggie on the top of the post here ?

You know when I read some of the responses folks make to Robledo's articles here I begin to wonder stuff like:

Is dyslexia communicable?
Is reading between the lines really better than just reading?
Which takes more energy, flying off the handle or jumping to a conclusion?

Or maybe it's just that some folks have some software scrambled and are getting a lot of this stuff in a foreign language. You know, like those emails I keep getting from that Nigerian lawyer who wants to make me rich. But then, I digress. Again.

Geeeez

Those that fall for it, and some will, are desperate people. There are no guarantees of getting a full ride. This is all a nice, thought up company that is sales pitching it, but really all they are doing is taking a picture and a video of your kid sending it off to anyone that will take the time to look at it, and thats it. Connections from a head coach of a HS to Head coaches of colleges is where it has always been. This new thought up way of doing it is a money making cash cow for the company. DONT DO IT IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY!

Not impressed said:

5) We will be providing for the colleges a complete
evaluation of the prospect from head to TOW

Am I going to trust a service that is going to send letters to colleges that can't even spell? And if a school doesn't contribute will they be roasted on the blog. This sounds like BS.

pfromgsux said:

What a fool, now its obvious you're a hs coach and i meant no disrespect to hs coaches. They provide a valuable, needed service and they do their best. Some better than others for sure. But for a 3,000 dollar stipend it's not enough money for the MOST QUALIFIED sports coaches to step into that field. Teaching is a nice profession but does not produce your best sports coaches. There are 10's and 100's of more qualified people in every city to coach our hs sports teams but they don't because either a, they are not teachers or b, they cant afford to give up their days from 1:00 to 5:00 to do the job or c, they are making more money teaching the kids the skills necessary to make YOU look like a decent coach (camp instructors, personal training, private instruction) These people make more money in a month or two than hs coaches do for the whole year. This is just the facts. So here comes ANOTHER outside entity to do the job most of these pathetic hs sports programs cant. Enough said!

gottasharemythoughts said:

well to be honest, I am a bit torn. I fear it's gives too much power to a "sports writer" and with first hand knowledge of a lack of professionalism with someone like Aram - if a writer, again a "writer", doesn't like you, your school or coach OR he really like MTC"s kid, should HE have that much say/clout???? Now on the flip side, cool that kids that do not get represented by their schools have another chance for some attention. Tough call for sure.

Fred:

YOu can submit your thoughts on players, but leave the production of the tapes and transscripts up to the parents and coaches.

I dont think the SGV Tribune should send materials out to scouting companies without approval from parents. You can make mnistakes and do kids harm if your not an expert in this field

What a fool said:

pfromgsux - wow you laid yourself out there bare for the world to see.

What the F do you think coaching is? It is teaching - it trying to get a kid to do something at a higher level than he/she is accustomed to. it is plainfully obvious that you have NEVER ONCE SET FOOT ON A HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC FIELD AS A COACH!

As for this "scouting service" - yea right. They are the experts huh? They don't spend a minute on the practice field, in the meeting rooms, or preparing and executing a game plan - hey just like you! But they pass themselves off as the expert in preparing athletes for the colleges. BARF!

"After speaking with many colleges this past year, they
continually informed me that they were finding it very
frustrating that many of the players in the area were
not getting properly evaluated because of the lack of
cooperation from several high schools"

Hook, line and sinker, you fell for the sales pitch like every other misinformed ignorant person who thinks a scouting service can get their kid a scholarship.

pfromgsux said:

This is just another example of the ineptness (did I spell that right?) of alot of our hs coaches and programs that an outside entity has to do the job the coaches are too lazy or too unqualified to do. Most of our best coaches, in any sport not just football, are NOT teachers. Thus at the high school level we are "stuck" with the best of the teaching lot to do our coaching. On one hand I commend them for doing their best especially for very little pay (have you seen their stipends compared to the amount of hours they put in?) But on the other hand most hs coaches are just not very good.
