Monday Afternoon Football

This is your chance to talk about anything football. We'll do a weekly football thread on Monday, which we should probably call, "Bishop Amat conversation," since most of you will go on and on about the hiring of Steve Hagerty, and who's he's thinking about bringing on staff. Steve had no idea we had this blog when he was hired. I told him how Verti and his staff hated it, and that there are fanatical Amat bloggers that will dissect his every move. We laughed about it, then I told him where to find it, so hopefully he's not taking it too seriously.

Above: Not exactly a town-hall meeting, but here's Hagerty explaining to the guys how he's going to bring the glory days back.

Other things to discuss
When will Wilson name a head football coach?
Now that the signing date has passed, where are others thinking about going to college?
Who should be in this year's Hall of Fame all-star game?
Have any significant players changed schools?
Will Los Altos make the playoffs next season?
And who or what will be the next, "Breaking News" thread.

Some shameless promotion: Don't really know what a widget is, but I'm told it's a great way to share this blog on myspace, or any other social networking site. Just click on the "Get Widget" and follow the directions.

Derek Bub new Chino Hills Coach.

Derek Who?

Sounds worse than Mark Verti..

I know this is not the IE but I read today that longtime coaching legend Terry Roche is being replaced by Derek Bub. WTF? Who in the hell is this guy? I heard they had three guys apply. One was Roche's Son in Law and the other was from one of the other high schools. Of the three The guy from the other high school was the only one with any head coaching experience let alone coaching experience.
Even still you had to figure Roche's son in law was the obvious choice because of their relationship and they picked this guy.
Wow!!!
I sure hope Glendora and Damien realize what a potential gift they have just received.

i agree with sgv
you should give each sport its due
football is over..get over it
wait til october like the rest of us

just my 2 cents...

Sorry, the old days are long gone, so are 14-16 page sports sections. Advertising is way down for all print newspapers, and our staff is barely half the size it once was.
That's why we only get one page to devote to prep sports.

Hey Fred

I hope your preview issue is more then one page long. Back in the day the SGV Baseball preview was one of the best around. But over the last 10 years the preview and the coverage of baseball has been a joke, with you guys cramming everything in 1 page and printed it only one day. I will look forward to the preview issue and I hope u give all schools fair coverage!

thanks

I wonder how Bishop Amat will fair against West Covina?

I don't know the order, but it Looks like West Covina's Non-league schedule for next season will be all new teams, in no particular order they are:
Glendora
Bishop Amat
Los Altos
Diamond Bar
El Rancho
Blair

I heard Amat will not be playing Serra HS this year after the announcement of the new HC. What gives?

Hey, came across thid video on youtube.

Tom Brady Serra Highschool, San Mateo CA

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=2_wrlz3O2lg&feature=dir

Thats my point Joe Amat. Look who is playing Chatsworth, Amat, and they are getting banged on here for playing D5 ball not at their choice. Amat is going to spank CO and Northview should they meet in tournaments. Football it is West Covina and Diamond Ranch next year. Wait til Amat cleans up then they will say how Amat payed low level WC and DR.

Amat plays Chatsworth in Chatsworths opening game of the year. Amat has the Glendora Tourney before hand which could be good - or bad. Will the Amat pitching be depleted after a week of tournament play - or will the have the competitive juices flowing after a week of competition? Will C-Worth be "rusty" - or fresh? The game will be 3/12 at Loyola Marymount. Should be a good one.

My Opinion,

Is that why you are posting on a football Blog's Topic. This is Fred's Blog now and Aram is gone and football remains the hot topic and will be all the way to this coming season. Baseball is ok but the teams in the SGV are ok. CO winning last year and BA winning last year did not really lite up the the Times top ten. Until the SGV teams can compete with the San Fernando Valley teams ala Chatsworth, Simi Valley, then it is just local sgv action that is not that hot. Football on the other hand has Amat playing top teams and that is the way to go. Play and measure yourself against the best. Win or Lose.

Any word if Amat will get any transfers with the coaching change?

The reason the football blog was more explosive is because that is really the only sport aram knew and he let his little posse run wild UNTIL someone dare debateD the BIG Blowhard who cried foul until the even bigger bullies rallied around poor little aram - but make no mistake the SGV IS ALL ABOUT BASEBALL AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN - THANK YOU

I just got emailed this cartoon that you might get a kick out of

We've discussed this phenomenon a bunch on this blog and it was, kind of, Aram's pet peeve. Fred, pass this along to the big guy.

SGV, when baseball gets here, it will be baseball all the time, I've already posted two threads, let the preview issue come out on the 27th, then we'll talk baseball..

It would be interesting to see next season schedules. Can they be listed or can I find them somewhere else?

SGV,
sorry but football put Aram and this blog on the map. When this blog started Football dominated it and still does. I really like baseball and wrestling and basketball but the SGV loves their football and the die hard Amat fan like myself, even when losing are coming in here and riling up everyone. It has some kind of character to it when it comes to football, some give some great insights aka Joe Amat and some are clowns aka Mean Machine but it is hilarious at times and then it is informative. Some bloggers have first hand knowledge to the players because they are their parents and they get the news fist hand to what direction their coaching staff is taking them, and dont think that all of the Verti smashing did not come from disgruntled players telling their parents that this guy cannot coach or that his staff was not a high caliper staff of assistant coaches. Players know if the system is good by the way they get prepared. Note to Hagerty, get them ready to play coach, Focus being the key word. Make adjustments, Pep Talk before games in the locker room should be high on your list. This is what lacked last year to give you a parents perspective. I believe Coach Hagerty will bring this to Amat because thats what older, more mature coaches do, they get the best out of their players. Verti did not do this and this is no slam on Mark, just that age does matter sometimes in coaching. This the season Amat comes out firing on all cylinders.

SGV,

Relax, there will be plenty of stories on baseball once the season is in full swing. You have to admit though, Football is just a different beast here. The emotions are running on red daily. I understand your point of view, and I'm sure Fred is going to make sure we get our topics out there...aren't we Fred?

Seriously Fred!

Its bad enough that Baseball gets so over looked by the Tribune compared to other papers in other areas. But do we really have to talk football when Baseball season is starting.

Jeez...I am sure the Baseball review will barely be one page total for the whole valley...When years ago every league had there own page on seperate days. Get back to what made the SGV famous!! Note to others: its not Football!!

thank you for your time

I think Steve needs to go out on a limb and let everyone know that its not about chance but what a coach can bring to the table. Come on Steve...say it....Amat will kick ass this fall...don't be afraid to say it!

Just go on and do the Amat ticker thing.

I'll play.

It is a good idea to have something related to football at least once a week on this thing, because if you just happen to notice how many people post on this blogg, and what the numbers are compaired to the rest of the sports topics, then, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize the importance of this topic.

As for the Amat issue, no kiding ! Amat dominates the discussion because, as they used to say about Reggie Jackson, "he (in this case, Amat) is the straw that stirs the drink."

Amat is the big fish in the little pond. That is not to say that a spirited discussion regarding other schools is out of bounds but, it seems as if Fred got it right here.

I hope the new coach at Amat is not to thin skinned, because there are a lot of expectations for next year. I just looked at Max Sports to take a look at (what on blogger said was an opponent next year) Serra, just to see how they did last year. They played in the CIF championship game ! So even if the schedual is not as tough as last year's, it still gonna be a mine field to get through.

any other info on local guys singing? there's gotta be more than the few the trib covered. offers come in for how long? mt sac has gotta be feeling great about getting alot of guys to come there after the signing of craft at ucla. even the guys going small school should get time here. later
