tell me what sgv football player is ranked in the top such as players like nick crissman dj shoemate matt kalil matt barkley. or is even going to a school like them. domnique austin is the only player going to a top d1 college. no team in the sgv can compare to a mater dei servite esperanza, etc.

reality czech said:

OC is also bigger with more high schools and a larger % of high division teams (Pac-5).

A much more accurate comparison if you only count North OC and their Leagues

fan said:

not too many people signed to a big division 1 school because the talent isnt that good in the sgv... the oc has better talent which is the reason why more kids signed to a big division 1 school

To add with Oldtimer:

Some other methods to get recruited are to go to the free high school combines (Nike, Scout, and Prepstar), and/or go to the one or two day High school colleges camps like USC and UCLA. Or any other colleges camps which is listed on the college official sites. That's the best way to get noticed. Some of the camps are contact and non contact camps. The college coaches/recruiters are working first hand with the high school palyers camps. All the colleges hold the camps in the beginning of June.

SUX said:

Heck when it came to Manzo and Verti these past two years they downgraded some players to colleges Dominique Gaise,Wagner,Silva,Mead Milar,. The one that got in Austin, well his parents did his legg work for him. Some coaches and AD's hold that (College Offers) over their athletes head in some cases.

Joe Amat said:

Our old boys basketball coach, Coach Lokar, operates a website, among other things, that contains info he gave to our kids about the recruiting process. It's a good guideline for all sports and I still send friends there for guidance. its at http:www//basketball4all.net and find the "Recruiting Guide"

oldtimeparent said:

OK PARENTS. LISTEN TO ME. WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING YOUR SON/DAUGHTER RECRUITED, GET INVOLVED. DON'T LEAVE IT UP TO COACHES AND AD'S. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR "SPECIAL" KIDS. I KNOW OF MANY A KID WHO WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR D1, HAD THE SKILL AND THE GRADES. BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE COACHES AND/OR AD'S TOLD THOSE SCHOOLS? THEY TOLD THEM THEY WEREN'T READY OR GOOD ENOUGH. SO THEN THESE KIDS END UP AT A JC, WHICH ISN'T THAT BAD, AND THEN END UP AT A D1 SCHOOL.

MAKE YOUR OWN TAPES, DO YOUR OWN BIO WITH A PICTURE AND SEND THEM OUT TO EVERY SCHOOL IN EVERY DIVISION. YOU MAY NOT GET YOUR #1 CHOICE, BUT 2ND OR 3RD ISN'T HALF BAD.\

IT'S ABOUT GETTING AN EDUCATION, AND IF THEY ARE OFFERED A SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP, THAT'S EVEN BETTER.

BUT CHECK THE BACKGROUND OF THE COACH AND THE AD. HOW MANY KIDS HAVE THEY MOVED ON TO D1 SCHOOLS ON SCHOLARSHIPS. WHAT DOES THE COACH KNOW ABOUT RECRUITING.

THEIR ARE MANY WEBSITES NOW THAT AN ATHLETE CAN POST THEIR OWN INFORMATION ON, INCLUDING VIDEO CLIPS.

I JUST WISH WE HAD THIS BLOG A FEW YEARS AGO.

GO LUCK TO THE CLASS OF 09, 10, ETC.

I fell sorry for the Glendora team. This Henley should have either stepped down or been fired last year. His record speaks for itself and this year probably won't be much better.

Tartan land said:

No big names from Glendora, but it was not a big name team. It was a TEAM first. It was a very good class of kids that will graduate and there are a large number that plan to play next year. 8-10 from what I've heard. Most will go the JC rout, but as we've seen, that can lead to a place in a 4 year school. A couple will play for good DIII/NAIA programs or walk on somewhere a bit bigger. Time will tell whether they will make an impact, but I'm betting there will be a handful of good college ballplayers from that group. Good luck Tartans and to any Sr. looking to "play on". To the others who will focus mainly on their education and future careers, best to you as well.

Was loaded with talent, what the heck happened. You have so much speed, so many Athletes that could have played D-1 what happened. Oh, i forgot they left Amat. I bet you if they went to Amat, they would of gone some where. Yet, no names were mentioned from Charter Oak. Pity...

no excuses, its just they could be so much more than than they have been, no playoff run since roemer, and coach henley figured that out almost too late, football seems to be more of if your good, you are on the field, thats the way it should be, but i'll be calling for henleys head all year, and all the donators will be mad, like the carving on the stands at ghs says, coach can be bought

COME ON said:

playallday,

come on dude.... if your such a big high school baseball fan, you of all people should know that every school does that. Its "politics" and it sucks, but dont make excuses for GHS because they are a bad team in a tough Sierra League.

playallday said:

ever wonder why ghs baseball program never wins, its because they cut good players so they can keep brothers of players who play in the program no matter how good they are, if you are rich, you can donate your kid on to the team, if you are a friend of coach henley you can be on the team, if you keep your mouth shut and work hard you WONT make the team, this needs to stop, they cut a kid this week who struck out 9of 12 batters in a scrimmage, throws 80 and has awicked curve, and he's only 15, this program will never be good again as long as its run this badly

WHO CARES ABOUT SHELTON MILES AND ALL OF THE OTHER SPOILED, DUMB AND SELFISH PLAYERS WHO ONLY THINK ABOUT THEMSELVES. THESE PLAYERS BARLEY QUALIFIED FOR COLLEGE AND WILL EVENTUALLY DROP OUT OR BE ASKED TO LEAVE THESE SCHOOLS. FOR ALL OF THE GOOD HARD WORKING, RESPECTFUL PLAYERS I SAY CONGRADS AND GOOD LUCK, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DESERVE IT. FOR ALL OF THOSE 09 PLAYERS TAKE MY ADVISE AND GET YOUR PARENTS INVOLVED IN THE RECRUITNG PROCESS, BECAUSE IF YOU DONT YOU WILL BE STUCK OUT IN THE COLD LIKE A LOT OF PLAYERS. I KNOW THAT IF WE HAD NOT OUR SON WOULD NOT HAVE SIGNED A LETTER OF INTENT.

what a weak batch of prospects... they go from being the scrubs of cif to the scrubs / tackling dummy of D1. big whoop.

ps as for that kid who "committed" to USC... mcwhateverhisnameis, i think pete carroll needed a few extra waterboy since they play ohio state next year.

I agree Tartan Killer, but going to a Ivy League school puts a added 10 to 20 grand per year more income in your pocket after graduation with their degree. No gurantees at SC with him starting or even making the squad, allot of talent goes to USC seeking that same dream. I wish him the best tho.

Good to see Duarte High School sending another kid D-1A. That is three kids signing from the past two seasons. Pretty good for a school with 1,200 students. Good luck Chris Harris.

Ryan McMahon will start on special teams next season for the men of troy. Trust this. He is an awsome talent and nobody should be knocking this kid for pursuing his dream of playing for the Trojans. USC may not be Penn (adademic wise) but it's not like he is going to end up delivering packages after graduation. Good luck Ryan!!!

Next year Lancer pride rest with Seals, Bowens, Price and Lenhart. Preito could figure in there as well. I also thought the coaches could have helped not only Ochoa a little more but also I felt Julian Silva had poetential to go to the next level. If they would have utilize Silva more and pass to him more frequently he would have been spotted by a recruiter. Tough luck and not all get to a shot at the brass ring. As far as Bryce I agree if he stays at Amat he most likely is headed towards a team like Fresno State,Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or even a UNLV.

I agree Silva was not utilized enough. He did his job and didn't complain. Don't forget he is a heck of a wrestler. I am sure whatever he pursues will turn out well..

No disrespect Joe, Matt, Lancer D2

"SOS" If Amat had more responsible coaches and AD staff members there would have been more players being signed. Wagner and Ochoa didn't receive any help. Ochoa "may" have a shot with Portland State. All the Amat parents knew that that Austin was hustling on the camp circuit and obviously they were successful. "No help from the coaches" Hopefully a new coach will bring that element to Amat Football. Joe, Matt, and Lancer D2 like you already said, Austin is a good kid and fine example of Lancer Pride. Heard nothing but good things about him. His signing yesterday with Arizona gives us more hope for future players. "PAC 10 is back at Amat" . "Mighty Are The Men That Wear The Blue And Gold"!

Joe Amat and Keep the faith

You both make good comments but bottom line, the parents have to be very active with the recruitment process and they can't rely on HS coaches anymore. I know the father's for Wells, Austin, and McBride were all constantly taking their kids to combines, HS camps, and college camps together. Wells and Austin earned their scholarships the hard way. It's not to late for McBride and he will be rewarded. He is not to small to play in college. USC signed a 5-6 (McNeal)RB and LSU has a 5-5 WR. It doesn't matter if it's D1, D2, D3, its about getting an education. Good luck to all the players and to McBride, there's nothing wrong with JC (Mt. Sac) for now. Good Luck

Im glad someone sees my point (footballcrazy). You hit it on the money.

N It doesn't matter what school you go to in order to get a scholarship. You don't even have to go to just Amat to get noticed, what a shocker. This year Amat had the same number of D1 scholarships as the likes of Los Altos and Baldwin Park.

Keep the Faith said:

Joe Amat

I would have to disagree with your comments this time.

I have friends who have played at local HS, went onto D1, D2 and even D3 programs and had NFL carreers. Some longer than others, but they made it.

Kids, keep your grades up, work hard, be loyal to whatever school you attend and believe in yourself.

Bryce didnt get a scholarship.. because he got hurt in the middle of the season.

and it doesnt help that he isnt the tallest kid on the block.

from wat i hear Ray his teamate tried his hardest to make it a package deal but in the end bryce was just too short..

it sux but thats just football

Fan of Los Altos,

By going to Los Altos what did Gano get for Bryce as far as college recruitment. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!. At Amat he would have signed a letter this past Weds. He was everything to that offense and kick returns. Who else was scoring for you like that. Overworked but you fail to see it. Shame how you used this young man. Thats why you have parents upset with your program and players not wanting to play there anymore. Your upcoming season you guys are toast. I dont care how undefeated your lower level teams were.

Would've Could've should've it goes both ways Amat Alum. Bryce was a stud at LA and no he wasn't overworked. He barely played defense so it wasn't like he took part in every play of every game. I remember a few years ago LA had a player by the name of Richard Mirmontes (same height with less bulk) and HE played Every Down RB, Safety, Return, kicker etc and no Im not kidding he did it all and did he get hurt? NOPE! So don't blame some excessive playing time for an injury that's ridiculous. Bryce was injured by simply taking a helmet straight the the leg. There's nothing you can do about that. So Stop being bitter Amat even with LA's poor season (with injuries!) they still favored better then the Lancers.

Lets just give the athletes the credit they deserve.

Fan Of Los Altos said:

RECRUITING IS 95 PERCENT POTENTIAL AND 5 PERCENT WHAT YOU DID IN HIGH SCHOOL.....WHEN THE ALL STAR GAMES COMES AROUND WE WILL SEE WHO THE BEST HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS ARE....WHAT THEY DO AFTERWARDS IS ALL QUESTION MARKS.....CONGRATS TO ALL THE KIDS THAT RECIEVED A FULL RIDE, IT TRULLY IS A TESTAMENT TO YOUR HARD WORK AND YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEMS AT HOME

Amat Alum said:

If Bryce stays at Amat he never gets hurt and he signs somewhere this past Weds. He was a piece of meat overworked and spit and chewed out by the recruiting machine over at Los Altos..aka Gano. Bryce was carrying that team single handedly and that injury was inevitable. At Amat he shares the duties of Tailback and returns kicks and maybe plays a little D., Preserved and would have a schollie right now. Shows how the grass is not always greener on the other side. Then again no one twisted his or his parents arm they fell for the HS recruitment okie doke of Ganos.

LAC said:

If Ray Rodriguez and Bryce Mcbride never had there injury riddled seasons, I think you would be seeing them signing with Pac 10 schools. To bad for Bryce's size he needed an injury free season to get that scholarship. Very unfortunate.
However Good luck to Ray at SJSU he will step right in and compete.

Looking forward to seeing you play Pac 10 football against USC and UCLA here in L.A... Amat turns out another Blue Chip Recruit. Mom and Dad great job! God Bless.

Congratulations to ANY kid that gets his chance to extend his playing days into college - even at the JC or DIII level. The bottom line in LIFE is to get the education and for those that can get that paid for or have sports help them get into good schools that they might not normally get accepted too.

But the reality, from a FOOTBALL perspective, is that there is only ONE big time Division I automatic BCS conference signee in the SGV. Only Dominique Austin signed with a school in a big-time conference. Even from a team having a "sub-par" season in the eyes of many. The reality is that all of those "top quality" players in the valley are really second rate in the eyes of college recruiters compared to the "top quality" players that compete at the highest level in CIF. It is the rare player (Cody, Harwell, etc) whose ability outshines the question from recruiters, "can he do it against better competition?" The reality is that if those players on the list proved that they could compete in the Pac-5, they would get more looks from top NCAA schools in the Pac 10, Big 12, SEC, etc.

Remember that every recruiter that comes to watch Orange Lutheran, Crespi, Mater Dei, Notre Dame, Servite, Loyola, etc, also see the players competing against those guys. THAT"S where players really prove their metal.

A Penn or Stanford education should have come first. Come on parents of this Kid, A USC walkon???? gives you no gurantees. USC is still a good educational school but it is in the hood and he I believe made the wrong choice, but oh well it is his decision. Wrong one tho.

Too bad Ryan McMahon wasn't given the RB position full time. Maybe then he would have signed instead of walked on at USC. Just my opinion...for two years!!! Either way congratulations to Ryan. A great individual and outstanding family. USC is a GREAT school both academically and for years to come with their legendary "NETWORKING CULT" but kind of SCARY giving up going to Stanford but giving up Penn was nuts. Maybe Ryan should look to the NFL and see that great players have come from the Ivy Leagues but more importantly going to an Ivy League school puts you in another class academically and socially all together. But I guess when you raise "great kids" that's the priviledge you imstill in them...."It's their choice" and as parents you can only sit back and admire their confidence and support their ambitions. OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUAL! Hat's off Ryan...and that doesn't HAPPEN too often! lol

Finally some cred HAS to go out to D. Harper '07 who was last year's USC walkon after bypassing Geargetown. I'm sure Pete Carroll gave some thought to the kind of individual Harper is and the kind of men Damien produces. Ryan and Harper are the kind of students Damien produces. Stanford, Georgetown, Penn....what more needs to be said.

Best of luck to everyone who makes the jump either on the field or in the classroom...as they say in basketball ...."IN IS IN!!!!!

FIGHT ON Ryan!

Well I was talking to Mike Edwards from Glendora, MVP of the Sierra League, and 1st Team All Area, and he said he is going to make a late jump at some private school. I would really like to see him do well. Good Kid, Smart Football Player, will probably be a coach someday like his dad. I see that he's a pretty good Baseball player too, so maybe a school will pick him up for baseball and he'll find his way back to the gridiron. If anyone has any new on his prospects I would really like to know.
