As we have seen many time in the past with Gano as the head coach of the football program, taking a issue to him is like saying I want my kid benched.

Lost doubleheader to Los Osos.
Record 2-2
I will keep posting facts also.

No one is questioning the talent on the team, we are questioning if Gano is looking out for the best interest of the school or his crew of freshmen girls. Please don’t use a game against La Puente as a measuring stick as to how good our softball team is. We all know that we have a great group of girls our issue is with Gano’s intent on playing time of the freshmen girls while risking a LA win.

Let’s talk about this Gano/Softball issue at LA. The girl’s softball team has a head coach that is the AD of the school and has a freshmen daughter on the team. Gano is playing favorites with the freshmen just like he did in football. The other issue is the boy’s baseball team. We are now on the short end of the stick. Girl’s softball is now the number one sport at LA because our AD is coaching the team. Have you seen the cheap A** fence the boy’s varsity team got and the nice 20 foot high fence that the girls softball team got. In all my years at LA I have never seen a fence like the one the girl’s softball team got this year. Gano can justify it how ever he wants but everyone knows that it is going to be all about girl’s softball for the next four years with his daughter on the team.

Fred,
I don't see any tournament schedule listed. Is anyone covering the tournaments this week?? I checked out Sat & Sun Tribune and there were on a few games listed. What's the deal? We have some great teams in the area and no press!!! Also I would wait a litte longer to post area rankings. I heard the a few of the Top Ten have gotten beaten this past week. Are you going to set up a softball\baseball score board, that would be nice. Lets get some coverage and all will be good.

Wow LA over Shurr, don't get too geeked up, Shurr has been the whipping child for the past 5 years and didn't seem to pick it up at all.
Softball fan,
You asked the last time Charter Oak or San Dimas beat St. Lucy's or Glendora. Well here is one for you, when was the last time LA beat Amat. Amat should be stronger than last year. They lost Maribal, a stud, but that was it. I said it before it will come down to coaching decisions and that has killed the Lady Lancers the last couple of years. Time has passed by Coach Walt. I hear he lives with Gano, interesting match up.
Good Luck to both teams this year.........

2006 LA beat Glendora 6-1 in the Charter Oak tournament. I think St Lucy's took that tournament.

Fred
The best local softball teams still are in the Sierra League. Can you tell me the last time a Charter Oak or San Dimas beat a St. Lucy's or Glendora team. Especially over the last 5 seasons. CO hasn't defeated either of those teams over that time period. I don't believe San Dimas has either. Don't get me wrong, Higuera and Pollard do an outstanding job. And los Altos has been decent lately (But now they have a football coach for a coach. They lost an excellent softball coach.) But the caliber of play top to bottom, throughout their league play (Chino, Hills, Ayala, Diamond Bar, Chino, Glendora & St. lucy's)and CIF division isn't even close. Charter Oak and Los Altos are the only decent teams in their league, while San Dimas is in probably one of the weakest softball leagues in the San Gabriel Valley. The Charter Oak Tournament is a good tournament in which St. Lucy's has been in the Championship game the last 3 seasons, and won the last two. In fact the last several years there has been 2 to 3 Sierra league teams in the semis of the CO Tourn on a regular basis. The San Dimas Tournament is average at best. Anyway, good luck to all of the local teams. hope they do well, especially when they go out of the area.

LA Over rated...
Who gives a rat's A** about last year! Yesterday LA 12, Schurr 0! Great start LA!!!

To: LA over rated
LA lost to Beckman (CIF Champs) 3-2 in extra innings (the bottom of 9th), at Beckman High.
Oh yeah. LA beat C.O. 2 out of 3 last year and the loss was without their star pitcher. Otherwise, LA would have swept C.O.
And LA won the San Dimas Tournament last year too, beating Alta Loma 8-3. Where was San Dimas?
Don't be a hater. LA is for real. Beckman was awesome and in the way of the CIF championship.

Can anyone tell me how LA did in CIF last year?.. NOTHING. Charter and San Dimas on other hands, semifinals:)

I can't wait to watch the first game today. Go Diamond Ranch Varsity softball!

Let me just say that the negativity can stop right here. For all that is said or "Blogged" about, the game still has to be played. LA has had a rich tradition in all athletics and we should come together to support them or not at all. I know this is Cali. but LA doesn't need fence fan. We win, I love LA. We lose, fire Gano. Come on...act like an adult and be an example to us rather than bring us down whenever we hit a stump. We need you help LA, let's get em. By the way Diana I love you...good luck sweetie!

Good Luck to the Los Altos Softball Teams(varsity, jv) and Coaches. Ladies Leave NO DOUBT.........Play as a team and good things will happen!
Posted by: LA softball mom | February 29, 2008 9:17 AM
This is unbelievable. All the negative comments are coming from within our softball family. Already, the parents are going to be quick to point the finger. If anything, your negativity is what going to "SCREW THINGS UP". Just tell me this...How is being negative in your daughter's ear after games going to help? If you parents had any courage...you would take it to the coaching staff. But you won't because all of you are gutless. Just remember, the girls are on the diamond playing...not Gano. His job is to make sure they are focus and have them play as a "TEAM". Which I know he knows how to do. Good Luck Gano!

I know plenty about softball, 20 plus years... : ) And everyone knows that 1 pitcher can only take you so far and everyone is hittable!!! The pitcher is only as good as her defense... And for the freshman, haven't seen her pitch. But Diana was a freshman at one time as well...
Posted by: LA Over rated | February 29, 2008 8:11 AM
Diana Rocks! She will lead LA to the CIF title and go down as one of the best LA has had in years. Best of luck to her and LA, hope coach Gano doesn't screw it up.
Posted by: diana rocks | February 29, 2008 7:59 AM
If you know anything about womens softball, its all about the pitching. With Diana out 4 games last season, LA lost 4 in a row. Diana is awesome on the mound. Coach Gano will make the mistake of taking her out to early and using his freshman player to pitch. That is how they will loose. Keep the star in for the tough games. Put the freshman in for the easier games.
LA has some bats in their lineup. They have at least 4 girls in the top 10 in Miramonte League. Go LA.

LOL. the girl on the right has a mustache.
Posted by: DavidBrownFromCtown IsADouche | February 29, 2008 12:05 AM
Ok so all this talk about LA but what happened last year when Diana was injured they fell to $hit! The last time I checked if your a strong team you shouldn't rely on the "one" pitcher. It takes more then a pitcher to be good team. Other schools in the area are just as good if not better... LA over rated!!!!!

Gano is a great diamond coach as well as football, should be a great race between him and Higy at CO.

Fred,
I heard that one of Rosemead hs wrestling coaches has passed away. Do you have any info on this?
Posted by: ? | February 28, 2008 3:38 PM
Gano was a very good baseball guy back in the day and has always had more than a passing interest in girls' softball !:?)
I think that his knowledge will translate and he'll do great.
Posted by: Joe Amat | February 28, 2008 2:56 PM
There is much talent on the team, but behind a strong team you need smart coaching. Will Coach Gano utilize these girls in the proper positions, I guess we need to wait and see. Diana Lynn is one of the strongest if not the strongest pitcher in our league, why mess with something that is not broke, careful the way you are subbing the girls in Gano because that will be the difference of the girl's moral and how strong they become and end the season.
Posted by: softball girl | February 28, 2008 2:29 PM
Though Los Altos has a lot of great talent, will Coach utilize them correctly? Behind a great talent you need a strong and smart coach. I could see this group of girls winning CIF two years in a row,but will they? I am behind you all the way girls stay focus and play hard.
Posted by: softball 12 | February 28, 2008 2:22 PM
Fred,
In the article you have Diana-Lynn Patterson listed as a senior. That's incorrect, she is only a junior. Wow, how scary is that?
I do believe Los Altos should be #1. They have it all. Pitching, Defense and Hitting. Where as I think all the other teams are missing 1 of the 3. Good Luck LA!!!
Posted by: Joe Conqueror | February 28, 2008 1:24 PM
Los Altos is a force to be reckoned with however I think Pomona Catholic could give them a run for their money. Grace Frost is a sophmore phenom. She will be listed as a utiliy but trust me, the girl has game. She has the pedigree as well having three older sisters play for P.C. She is going to be fun to watch.
