Baseball: How about them Brahmas, 9-7

One proved to be enough for the Diamond Bar baseball team - but just barely.
The Brahmas, getting home runs from Jake Urban and Cory Levier, scored all nine runs in the fourth inning, then survived a late surge by Glendora to win 9-7 on Wednesday.
Kenny Mathews saved the day for the Brahmas, putting out the fire of a five-run rally in the sixth and retiring the Tartans in order in the seventh to earn his first save of the season.
Jake Ludik, Levier, Robert Torrez and Matthews all had mutiple-hit games for the Brahmas, who improved to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the Sierra League.
Michael Edwards had three hits and Kyle Layton had a three-run home run for the Tartans, who slipped to 5-4 and 2-2.

WE always read abou the coaches from the idiots who hate them for personal or less than professional reasons well how about telling us all who they do respect?
Surely there are coaches out there that coached this apparent sgv talent into being the next can't miss kid. Did these kids learn from someone other thantheir Dads? Youwould think so from the haters but in all honesty who are the best coaches out there.
Anyone want to take that on?

Winterburn is responsible for the younger talent coming up at Glendora? Didnt know that. Maybe that explains why his ULV team is barely .500 every year.

this stuff is hilarious....what do you people do for jobs?

I once coached my best game of the year when I called a double suicide squeeze and it worked but nobody was there to see it because we were playing at Caltech....I was so fired up when I came in from the 3rd base box I lost my mind and made everybody drop down and give me 50 pushups and called 'em all pussies....then I realized that what I had done was ludicrous when the Caltech 1st baseman promised me a free psychiatric evaluation next year when he became certified...now I'm the man that will take all the credit for turning glendora into a powerhouse baseball program...but what about my Laverne team? Oh, who cares. not even I would watch this crap if I wasnt paid to...

If the army needed a drill sargent Winterburn would be there man. Theres a reason hes at Laverne (div 3)and not at a div 1 or div 2 school. Does coaching at Laverne actually count for being a college head coach?
Posted by: Hut 2, 3, 4 | March 28, 2008 6:50 PM
Glendora 11 Diamond Bar 2. And, Winterburn is responsible for most of the young talent coming up at GHS,Regis, Woodward, Layton, Smigalski, Cage, Gonzalas, those are just the young varsity players, half of J.V. has been coached by him also. Outstanding coach.

Henley gets bashed on here because in the last 49 league games in the sierra league he has won a grand total of 10 of those 49 (spanning 3+ seasons). What is he young every year?

Jim Giles=Who is that? Buddy u on here so much you got a hard-on to be known. travel ball is about the kids not about the coaches. All you do is assemble all-star talent and play tourneys with it and call yourself a coach. this is what most/all these travel guys are. Assembliers of talent. Go ahead. Call yourself the reason that so and so or so and so made the pros or signed D1. If that makes you feel good? LOL you people are amazing. OK everybody we all know who Jim Giles is now. He outed himself for the exposure. Next up will be the fake Giles protectors who will tell everybody how great a coach/person he is. It'll just be Giles himself people. You see 60-70 % of the alias's on here are done by the same people who just change their alias. its pathetic really.

"Players need to stand up for their coach's" Are you feeling alright? throwing out wild accusations about players being high during games? Keep your mouth off the kids! you said, you agreed with baseball lover and in the same breathe took a shot at a player! Who's the oxy.....MORON now?

Uh Ok from the cheap seats, I Henleys dad. You part of the reason the dodgers havent won a playoff game in 20 years and you raised a son who couldnt play and now cant coach the sport you love. It's tough here on the blogs!
Posted by: just the facts | March 28, 2008 10:48 AM
By the way, for those who are doubting the talent of the soph pitcher, I'd wait until June of his SR year. Then you'll see. But I'd sign up to be his agent right now.
Posted by: frm_the_cheap_seats | March 28, 2008 9:22 AM
I guess it was just a matter of time before the Glendora Bashers came out again.
Here's a newsflash - Glendora is YOUNG. Their SR's are avg hs players despite their wonderfuly runs through Glendora American LL.... Their lone JR is very good. The heart of the talent on this team is the underclassmen who almost all START.... they are going to make mistakes. They are going to have growing pains along the way, but from what I have seen, they are far better than many of the underclassmen at other schools in the league. So, next year and year after, that is when I expect them to shine.
Posted by: frm_the_cheap_seats | March 28, 2008 8:52 AM
Baseball lover that's the way it's always been on this blog....slam the kid because you can't/won't talk to the Dad in person. I think if the truth ever came out as to who the instigators were everyone would be surprise...and I mean everyone.
I knew a parent a few years ago who would bad mouth the head coach without mercy, spread rumors about the coach's job security...going so far as to guarenteeing..."IT'S A DONE DEAL!!! HE'S GONE!!!"! (news flash he's still the HC)...and then EVERY time the coach hit the front door after the game he'd walk up and shake the HC's hand and say..."GREAT GAME!!"" and then go back to bad mouthing the coach to everyone within earshot.
Unfortunately for him one time, in his usual drunken state after a game, he slipped up and told me his screen name. I'll guard that secret to my grave but every once in a while I still see him slam CURRENT PLAYERS/PARENTS and hide behind his keyboard.
Too bad. I had more respect for him than that. But then again I had more respect for his kid until I found out he was high DURING games. Apples and Trees.
I never understood the fair game comment/theory though...is that an oxymoron...what's fair about being a coward?
Maybe for once we should give the kids an opportunity to give props to their coaches. That might humble us all.
I know coaches have banned the players from this blog but then again that's what Captains are for....leading by example. I'd run 220's until I vomited just to stand up for my coach...even if he'd make me run them for breaking the ban rule because once I walked off that field HE'D know I was a man of honor and so would my team mates. Sometimes you have to be a man...even when you're a boy. Check out Iraq.
Players "Sieze the day!!!"
Don you're a stand up guy...now duck for cover. lol
By the way....what's your opinion on a live chat room for bloggers in real time? It would be funny to catch those who don't have a clue, never coached, and never played. But then again it might just give everyone a better sense of accountability....INCOMING!!!!!!!!

Uh, ok Don.... I mean Henley we'll lighten up
Posted by: say what? | March 27, 2008 12:36 PM
Some of you Glendora guys are so quick to light up your coaches when things don't go well. Two years ago you did the same thing to Pasquarella after btb 7-4 seasons; jeez, you had a rope ready to hang the guy. Last year, he sweeps the Sierra and the same folks were running him for Mayor.
I can hear some of you now, “well, we paid for all of those hitting/pitching lessons and Jr did play on a TRAVEL BALL TEAM, we really should be winning it all every year”.
Henley is better than most and frankly, you guys should be happy to have him. For those who want more “leadership” go ahead and run your kid down Valley Center where Quinner channels Georgie Patton when he is displeased. Some former Tarts seem to respond well to the late night laps.
Those 11PM conditioning practices ought to toughen the little man up.
Posted by: Don | March 27, 2008 11:03 AM
The kid is still just a sophomore and his velocity is outstanding but you can never really know the intangibles until it plays out. And for a pitcher the intangibles are everything. Heart, balls, mental toughness, adaptability, confidence are everything. Hes still young. reality check you are right everyone saw that performance against bishop amat and went nuts way too soon. Thinking back that game probably has hurt him, with all the pressure and hype that came because of it. As far as Henley, he knows the game but is not a LEADER. Thats his biggest issue as far as what I can see. Sierra standings as of this am: Chino Hills 3-0, Chino 2-1, Diamond Bar 2-2, Glndora 2-2, Damien 1-2, and Ayala 0-3

Great Observation! I guess Henley relationship with old man Plutko only goes so far when you cross the white lines...
Henley needs to go!!!
Posted by: Reality is a b---- | March 27, 2008 8:33 AM
So are we still ready to nominate Plutko for Cy Young the way everyone was after the Glendora Tournament?
Posted by: reality czech | March 27, 2008 8:24 AM
To Steve I have not seen Bryan Stauffer name recently and did he play today? In the Loara tournament 1st game he hit 2 home runs.
Posted by: DB Fan | March 26, 2008 11:06 PM
And guess what? Kyle Layton is only a sophomore.
Posted by: Heater | March 26, 2008 10:49 PM
Well with Damien 2-1 with tough losses to DB and Chino Hills, and Glendora losing close games to the same. The Sierra league is looking for some SGV help. I think the Tartans can make a run if wins over Ayala, and Damien can push them up. But count no one out because there is a lot more league play to come.
Go Tartans
How bout Mike Edwards football and baseball star,
and a Junior Kyle Layton. Way to Go Boys. Now if Henley would step down and we get a descent coach i think Glendora could dominate Baseball too. (Since Basketball and Football were knock outs)
