Baseball: Amat 1-2 in National Classic
The Bishop Amat High School baseball team lost its second game in the National Classic sponsored by Esperanza High School, which features several of the countries top-ranked high school baseball teams.
Florida's Jupiter High School, behind Vanderbilt-bound pitcher Jack Armstrong, defeated the Lancers 11-4 at Esperanza High School in Wednesday's consolation semifinal game.

The Lancers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but a bases-loaded error in the bottom of the second led to five runs for Jupiter, who rode Armstrong for six innings to get the victory.
The Lancers (6-3) will finish the tournament this afternoon against either Aptos HS or Tennessee’s Christian Brothers at Esperanza High School at 2 p.m.
The tournament has been a breakthrough for Amat’s Jordan Fox, who was 2-for-3 against Armstrong, and is 8-for-9 in the tournament. He’s reached base 11 of 12 times, and has been intentionally walked three times.
Fox, who also is doing well academically, is considering Cal State Fullerton, Stanford, Notre Dame, Loyola Marymount and several others.
The Amat first baseman is batting .667, and that’s after playing against several of the area’s top programs like Northview and Charter Oak in the Glendora tournament, as well as facing L.A. City-Section power Chatsworth and the talented teams in the National Classic.
“He’s getting it done against the best pitching out there, with scouts all over the place and college recruiters taking notice,” Lancers coach Andy Nieto said. “If he keeps this up, he’s going to have a great list of school’s to choose from. He’s been that spectacular.”
The Lancers opened the Classic with a 6-3 loss to St. John’s College Prep HS from Washington, D.C.
St. John’s pitcher LJ Hoes, who is headed to North Carolina, got the victory over the Lancers. St. John’s is ranked No. 15 nationally by Rivals.com.
The Lancers advanced to the consolation quarterfinals with a 7-0 win over Oregon’s West Linn HS on Tuesday.
Lancers pitcher Paul Paez threw a complete-game shutout to improve to 2-0.
West Linn retuned seven starters, including three All-State players from its 2007 Oregon State 6A semifinals squad that ended 20-9.
“This tournament has been such a great test and measuring stick for our ballclub,” Nieto said. “The big difference is the depth. To win three or four in a row in this tournament you have to have the depth, both at the plate and in your pitching staff. These teams are just too good.
“But you know, I thought we came out and competed with everyone. Sure you want to win, but these are the types of games that get you ready for CIF. When we get to the (Division V) playoffs, we will have certainly played enough championship-caliber teams to prepare ourselves to defend the title.”
Northview defeated Bishop Amat 4-1 in the championship game of the Glendora tournament earlier this month, which drew more than a thousand fans to Henderson field on a Saturday night.
If the new CIF-Southern Section playoff grouping proposals go through as expected, Bishop Amat and the Del Rey League will move up to Div. IV next year along with West San Gabriel Valley teams from the Rio Hondo League.
The Valle Vista League would remain in Div. IV, which could potentially set up some much-anticipated playoff games among San Gabriel Valley teams.
“I think it would be great,” Nieto said. “You saw in the Glendora tournament that the San Gabriel Valley isn’t lacking talent.
“I think the area would love it, and you would see a lot of dog-fights like you saw in the championship at Glendora. It would be a lot of fun, bring it on.”

Whatever...One question - Huh? Duh what??? Moms, Dads, what????
the problem on these blogs is the fact that people take the comments way to literally. If people took the things said here with a grain of salt and take it for what it's worth then people would get less upset. When you read these comments take them for nothing more than cheap entertainment and everyone will be better off.
welcome to jerry springer's blog. JERRY JERRY JERRY. Popcorn anyone?
That is why it gets ugly in here. When one can hide behind a screen name and have no backlash for what he or she says to a adult or child in here, then it is a all out war of words and hate between whoever is writing on this blog. Shame that there is no accountability in what a person posts here, but that is the way the internet future of blog life goes, to be opinionated while hiding. Freedom of Speech , Freedom of the press, altho taken way out of context when it comes to blogging, it is a battle royal in here. Shame isn't it?
This blog has to be run by primary barrio and ghetto mentality bloggers. At least 85% if a roll was called. All over the SGV very day idiots fighting for respect, disrespect, turf that doesn't belong to them, communites that they embarass to no end, hating each other, killing each oher, bastardizing mascots, schools, teams, cultures, religions, communities in the name of being worthless to society. I just came back from UC Merced a small farming town up north with big time ambitons and what do I see and hear...it's turning ghetto!??? What??? 10,000 planned housing communities and less than 1/10 built before the builders packed up and left town. Whole sections of brand new streets, wiring sticking out of the ground, infacstructure, street lights ALL NEW!!!, brand new beautiful high tech cutting edge UC campus and what happens??? Ghetto mentality in the surrounding community where once it was Mayberry. One such planned development had 4, count them 4 freaking houses built instead of 300 that it's prepped for....it's a sight! The locals call it their private "Ghost town" Almost made me embarassed to ask why and the locals were embarrassed to speak on the matter. It's painful and gut wrenching to see that lifetyle and gangta mentality so common in our society and on this blog. Lowlifes cutting each other to shreds and for what???To act tough? What a horrible joke! Like the LA Dodgers logo on the shaved head of Latinos all over the SGV. Disgusting! It's embassassing to see so many Latino kids with nothing going on in their lives but looking fly, acting tough and accompishing nothing in school. But that's the same mentality that makes fun of the SH kid with a 4.3 avg and interest from Ivy League schools. Being tough, acting tough, thinking HS sports is the end all and be all of your existence is not only misguided it's criminal. How do parents allow those sorts of kids to exist in such large numbers today? It's pathetic! But with this ailing econmy and deep, deep, deep recession on the horizon for the next 4 years! those gansta acting and looking fake thugs will need more than a McDonald's job to sport those ridiculous 24" chrome rims on their over priced cars. Go to Glendora, randomly chosen, and see how many well to do parents have bought into that stupidity...24"rims on MBs,BMWs and Escalades. What a joke! Hey there goes Mrs. Flanagan with her pimped up White Escalade, riding 24s? Why? That's not fashion that stupidity..
IT'S ONLY HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS!!!!!
NO ONE WHO MATTERS REALLY CARES.
LIKE YOUR FUTURE EMPLOYER OR COLLEGE RECRUITER! BMOC? Want to SUPERSIZE YOUR ORDER SIR? Get used to saying that!
S T O P! From your mouth to God's ears! Let's bring some productive and positive comments about all schools in the SGV! We have so much to be proud of here!
E v e r y o n e should M A N UP OR S H U T U P ! ! ! ! !
Bishop Amat, Northview, Charter Oak – all schools: Stop and look at what you are writing. Can you look in the mirror and be proud of yourselves? Most of you are insulting and ridiculing not just each other but teenagers as well. TEENAGERS. Every school is like a family. It should be treated as such – RESPECTFULLY. All of you know that your children read these blogs. Are you being examples of how they should act they are your age? NO. Maybe it is the teenagers themselves that are blogging. Is what they are saying to each other and about each other ok? NO. But they are TEENAGERS and they are acting their age. They have not experienced what time and maturity has supposedly taught us ADULTS. If I am lured back to this National Inquirer type of reading again do I expect to read a backlash to what I have written – of course. I only hope that it is from the TEENAGERS that read and write here. They have yet to learn better. Those of you who are ADULTS and writing these things, act as your titles suggest: adults, parents, fathers, mothers, grandparents, teachers, coaches and most importantly EXAMPLES TO OUR FUTURE GENERATION, TO OUR FUTURE LEADERS AND TO YOUR FAMILY. If everything we say and do is for our children, if everything we do is out of love and concern for our children and grandchildren, then why can’t we love and care for them enough to bite OUR tongues, keep OUR opinions to ourselves and stop dragging THEM through this crap that WE continue to write?
"Clue and What a family" - It sounds like you're an outsider too, huh? Point made. What a family, at least it's our Dad's and not our moms like your school!
Lance, sounds like the bickering is within your Amat family. The Amat faithful is coming apart at the seams. Concentrate on your kids education, that's about all he'll get.
"Bring it on" big of Nieto to tell the paper to bring it on in Div. 4 when he should be Div. 1 or 2. He gets to openly recruit in Southern California (the best place for baseball in the USA). I'm a true blue fan, but we don't belong in Div. 5 or 4. It's not fair to the other teams. Truth is truth.
amat family= big bellied old men drinking beer in parking lot. gotta love family. ha ha
ICCKY GOT PEPPERED!
Enough of the bickering with people you don't even know...a "guess" at an identity and you're inclined to engage in an argument with a ghost? The person talking all the smack probably doesn't even affiliate with BISHOP AMAT. Let's hope the boys finish strong in the tournament and continue prepping for the upcoming season. Remember why we call it a FAMILY - The Amat Family!!! Outsiders don't get it, will never get it and can never be a part of it. Go Lancers!!!
amat loses again? ha ha amat suckssssssssssss
this is the same stuff thats going to happen when Amat has another bad year in football... all the bloggers will fight because the Amat bloggers will get made fun of and then they will start getting angry... and start there old excuse about how our kids couldent make it at Amat.
So pathetic,
Is that the best you can do? Where did you get your education - probably home schooled by your younger siblings. Get real man, you sound like your name, buth you should change it to "No clue and I'm looking for my brain", and my manhood.
oh wow man - I hope your parents are not paying for that education. Not only are you pathetic, but embarrasing as well. You aren't man enough to carry my jock strap...your mama so ugly........ is that what kind of game you want to play? you young, juvenile fool. bring it idiot child
Hey Pathetic
You're just like your name man. Too bad you are as stupid as your attempt to sound "cool" - too bad its just the opposite. Talk about hiding - you take the cake. I suggest you grow up and quit acting like your shoe size - home boy.
SEE YA-IS THAT AS MANLY AS YOU GET? WHAT KIND IDIOT ARE YOU, POPPING OFF ABOUT HIDING BEHIND A NAME AND THEN SIGN IT -- SEE YA. YOU SIR ARE ONE TOUGH DUDE. MUST BE A NIETO PUPPET GROW A SET HUH.
You two sound like Northview fans whining and whining like pitiful little puppies....Just calm down and enjoy your grandkids play the game. Good night now!
Yea Right Talk about a WEASEL only a pus y would post that and hide behind a screen name.. MAN UP OR SHUT UP...
YEA RIGHT. Sounds like your kid didnt get any playing time? Maybe just not good enough? Maybe your local public school would have been a beter option? We dont need you to be a Amat fan take your sh t and hit the road....
Nieto is so ghetto - he would enjoy the dog-fights because he starts most of them. Then cowardly backs his way out with his tail between his legs. SUCH A WEASEL, I am NO longer an AMAT baseball fan, he has done damage beyond words. AND DO NOT START ON THE CIF CHAMPS - NOT HIS TEAM
