Eddie Pedroza the young lefty for northview has really good stuff and could be one of the top pitchers in the league

This whole so called "budget crisis" is being totally over blown by the politicians so they can bleed you for more tax money, as if we aren't paying enough already.

It works something like this, every year the districts get an automatic increase in money from the state, for arguements sake let's say 7%. Well, with the forecast money being short for the next fiscal year, they will only get a 5% increase vs. 7%. That means they will get 2% less than anticipated BUT are still getting more money than the previous year and they call this the end of the world?

Don't let them fool you with their doomsday predictions, they have money, they just keep wanting more and more and more. With the price of EVERYTHING going up right now, can you honestly pay more taxes? Can the business you own or work for afford to pay more? Just like they tried to raise taxes on the oil companies, do you really think they wouldn't pass that added cost onto us, the customers? Hell, we're looking at the $4 mark in about 3 or 4 weeks from now.

Is it any wonder businesses keep leaving the state? Just hope and pray that your job is safe if the idiots in Sacramento get their way? Another thing they are looking at is raising the sales tax. L.La County already pays 8.75%, can you imagine paying 9 or 9.25% on everything you buy?

This may increase the numbers of walk-on coach. because of the loss of teaching spots of which many are coaches who often the lowest in seniority because they become the most recently hired due to coaching turnover. In Covina-Valley, at least football coaches seem safe, which may put other coaches at-risk. I'm guessing the same is going on at other districts.

Here's an excerpt from the article - that indicates it might get dicey:

"..The layoff system puts a priority on seniority. But with teachers hired in the same school year, the district will award points based on level of education, and number of special credentials held.

The district also released an exemption list, including those credentialed in language, speech, and hearing, sixth- through 12th-grade music teachers, math and science teachers and ***high school football coaches***. A list that union officials protested.

"These exemptions show the district is determined to take jobs from particular individuals rather than reducing the staffing level evenly," said Michelle Ramos, a negotiator with the California Teacher's Association.

The exemption for the school's football coaches in particular drew Ramos' ire.

"I'm sure in the world of `Friday Night Lights,' football is important," said Ramos. "But we are running schools, not athletic clubs."..."

Fortunately, private schools are not hurt (and may be helped) by these budget cuts and seem to find teaching spots for coaches and their assistants **hint*hint*wink*wink**!!

Speaking of budget cuts. What public HS will be affected by these cuts. I hear there will be coaches and lots of assistants on the chopping block this year. Thank God my kids are better off in a private school.

My point, plain and simple was to say I hope someone from Northview does not think Fairgrove Avenue (Amat) is somehow the hood/barrio. How are those comments related to Northview? Well, all of those events are within one mile of Northview.

I laugh at anyone from the ESGV saying Amat is unsafe. Drive the entire valley and it looks all the same.

With the proposed budget cuts it looks like the public schools systems may look in bad shape to boot. Covina Unified will be closing at least one school with more on the way.

When you hear about the robbery on San Berdo...that would be Northview Covina...the gang realted shoting in unincorporated Covina off Cypress...that would be Northview Covina...the guy that beatup his wife and shothimself in unincorporated Covina...that would be Northview Covina. I grew up in Covina (Kinside), but I would feel much safer in the barrior of La Puente than anywhere near Covina...

I'm sure you would be safer, but please enlighten us how you associate all these incidents with Northview.

Yeah the kid is small but so have many great ballplayers been in the Big Leagues and Foxy can flat out hit anyone from anywhere. GO FOXY GO. Tell NIETO TO GET YOU A DAM* SCHOLARSHIP!!!!

Props to your team #1 fan. Good pitching both ways, it could have gone either way, your team wanted it more. Nice job by your pitcher. Your SS needs work with his throw to 1st base tho. Times are tough for us without Melchor as our Ace right now.

Sure these are guys that are leftover from Kennys' era so one can always say they were on the radar already, and there's nothing that a new coach can do about that. You're right - we'll see how things turn out for the underclassmen. But, as '90 says, from what I've heard too he has been putting in some work.
You kind of answered your own question when talking about Mistone.

A coach might be able to get the conversation but not able to make someone buy - but the other reality is that you can't sell a bill of goods that comes with question marks or that really damages a coaches reputation. See how things turn out for Andrew -it might be best to do the JC thing and get a great opportunity to solidy what is his best position. We know that Nieto has an in with that group of coaches as well, to find the best place for Andrew. with scholarship limits as they are, sometimes that may be the best choice in the long haul.

If you remember the same thing happened with one of amat's best athletes in a long time under Kendrena - Andrew Soto. He was on two straight baseball National Championship teams, won a CIF title in basketball and started at fullback for the football team, but was a man without a real position. So he went the JC route and ended up getting $$$ to go to Concordia. It's not ALL about D1 - it's about getting the education.

I think that Fox is in somewhat of a similar spot and is playing out of his next level position. that leaves question marks in a recruiters mind. Does he have the speed to play the outfield? We know he does. Can he track a fly ball? How's his arm. Now maybe you blame Nieto for where the kid is playing - but no one is doing that.

And while anyone that knows the situation knows that MHphd doesn't strike fear in the hearts of coaches, I think Nieto feels a little loyalty to him and will heed his "suggestions". As for Manzo and Canales - they're just happy to be AD's and will go along with the flow without doing anymore work taht they have to. They're not going to do anything -that's for sure.

You may be correct, but I know that all Nieto had to do was make a phone call to the AZ. State coaches and the Amat boys were given a tour of the baseball facilities when they were playing in the Jr. Olympics last June, also I have spoken with a few parents and from what they are telling me Nieto is helping with the recruitment of their boys. Take it for what it's worth.

You're soooo off base about Nieto and his College connections. He has done NOTHING!! for any of these kids. UCI worked and offered Reyes because of their exposure to him while watching Maverick play last year. Nieto had ZERO to do with that. If his connections were so good, Fox would NOT be without a solid offer at this point of the year (with the exception of LMU). Don't you think so? Mistone' is a tweener who is neither a 3B in college nor a 1B to his size, thus Colleges must look at him as a MINF and there's doubts about his footwork and transfer to be a D1 MINF. Wouldn't Nieto had helped him too, if he had all your so called connections.

Boomer has had a standing offer from USF since his Soph. year, that was WAY BEFORE Nieto's time.

As for the others... you are right, good HS players only....

But again Nieto has had ZERO to do with the others.

It's been said time and time again, THESE ARE COACH K's players!! Let's see what Nieto does with the Soph class players and up....

Do you know that the kid who got pushed and held not choked was making threats to kill, and last year slashed Dorian' tires? there is a lot more but really is none of your business. Do you realize that these are facts with witneses? You guys definitely talk out of your ass without regards to a kid's reputation who is going to college on a baseball scholarship. Dimitri is a friend of my son and i have gotten to know a very respectfull kid.

Mrs North is fair and there was no need to throw anything under the rug, the truth always comes out.

College material wise there is not much after Reyes. Fox and Zuniga most likely will land some place and Mistone may be a dark horse, . Other then that not much there as far the next level. Seymore,Boomer,Herrera and the rest are just decent HS players. All teams have those type. Only so many can get the brass ring.

Exactly how many scholarships, letters of intent, scout looks and/or college looks has he obtained for any Amat player besides Reyes?? He hasn't done anything for kendrenas players/his past years players. What about this years players? I haven't heard anything about any of them? Just asking you because you seem to know.

While I find the identity speculation entertaining, if I was manzo I never would call for my own replacement and I've been on this blog long before Nieto even cared about coaching at Amat. But, just to put everyones minds at ease about some other topics, I can guarantee that MHphd has had a "discussion" with Nieto regarding his conduct. MHphd was the one that gave Nieto his first job HS at Cantwell and was responsible for the decision to bring him back after stints at JCs and USC. So he's, kind of, phd's guy. Clearly he needs to "readjust" to the level that he is coaching, behave and treat kids appropriately. BUT, it is much better to find a guy with baseball knowledge and try to mold his attitude than it is to find a nice guy that can't coach a lick. Granted, it'd be great to have both. And as far as I'm concerned the NCAA coaches don't have to like him they just have to respect his opinion on our players - which they do. He can call any coach in the country to push a player - and he does.

Here's to hoping he comes around before the need to make a move.

Don, you are missing the point man. One of the great things about what makes baseball fan, is comparing players, like who was better Joe or Mays? yet we never saw any of them. It is based on stats and observations, they are opinions that will change from person to person.
In my case, i watch a lot of High School games so this was my judgement. Nobody is getting insulted is a fun dialogue.
I do agree on Pony/Travel baseball, who cares when you were 13 this blog is about Prep sports.

3. Who wants to bet Andy Nieto would have gotten a pass from his detractors here on the blog had Amat won the Northview game?

Before anyone weighs in here about a “best” player at his position in the valley, he/she ought to be required to attend at least three games between teams other than their “home team”, (one should be a D1 game)... OR ... be forced to view seven innings handcuffed to a retired Coach. Maybe someone named Barbone or Bastion... no wait, that wouldn't be safe. Better just stick with plan A.

5. Does anyone else giggle when someone starts talking up a kid's pre-High School success here? Maybe it's just me, but the LL/Pony League/Travel Ball team posturing seems as irrelevant now is did when the kids were playing on those teams.

Since the only people who can hear the PA at SH are sitting in the Visitor's bleachers I hardly consider this a ringing note of condemnation. Maybe Smitty does need to mix in a little buck thirty eight or 12-pack or some other rapper type for a bit of diversity.

“2. Don't like Bishop Amat uniforms.”
Uniforms? UNIFORMS? Hey guys, even the Pope wears a different outfit from time to time. Don't belabor the “Amat Tradition” thing with something as petty as a little bit of color; it makes you appear unreasonable.

“3. That crowd at Henderson Field on Saturday was awesome.”
Great observation, great turnout for a terrific tourney almost every night, (well done by Coach Henley and the Glendora volunteers). What is even more true is that by the end of the season there will be three times as many people stating they were there and saw “the bump in the night”.

“4. Gladstone coach Rich Remkus goes for his 500th win on Wednesday.”

I understood what you wrote, but NO.1 fan has no clue just by the way he writes. I think he may have Tommy Reyes mistaken for RJ Arnold of NV. The chemicals that got sprayed years ago in Walnut realy have damaged those parents, #1 fan being amongst them. Add that to the hippy letuce these these Walnut parents smoked and you can see why #1 fan is all over the place.

Tommy Reyes and Jordan Dressner played travel as 10 and 11 yr. olds with the SGV Hurricanes, teamates included Victor Valenzuela (Covina)Tyler Buffington (South Hills) Brian Seymore (Bishop Amat) Ickky Torres (Bishop Amat)Ray Palafox (SFV) Oscar Robles (QB Northview)Albert Juarez (Arroyo)Timmy Soomantharan (John Glenn Norwalk) Charles Pacheco (OL Bishop Amat)Matt Dietrich (Los Altos) This SGV team was coached by Bill Buffington, Ray Palafox Sr, Johnny Torres, Dave Dietrich and Tory Valenzuela. A outstanding group of Travel ball players that won numerous Tounaments and represented the SGV. This team was at times almost unbeatable.

Joe Amat yes Predroza at 2nd is problaby a better choice for 2nb.

Since Joe Colt doesn't have the facts straight, here you go....Tommy Reyes and Jordan Dresner from Los Osos played on the Vineyard LL team that lost to Chandler AZ in the west regionals, not the world series and Reyes played for the Bombers!

San Dimas got rolled by a much better team yesterday.

Offensive is going to be the big question mark with this team...

Northview should roll thru the VVL.

Pedroza and Reyes are both great. I'd love to have them as a keystone combination up the middle. Move one of them to second, with Fox and Dimitri at the corners. Although in the future Fox's future might be in the OF. JMO

Pedroza will give Reyes a run for his money. Pedroza is a better fielder, Reyes has more power. Different players.
Best second baseman? No one stands out, would have to get another IF and move them there.
Best first baseman, Fox.
Best third baseman, De La Fuente. Arnold can compete but De La has the fear of opp managers and carries SH.
Arnold could be moved to 2nd base.
Best catcher, maybe Bailey from CO but not convincing.

He was on the Hurricanes when he was younger along with Jordan Dressler from Los Osos's who is also from Rancho, they were both on the little league team from that arera that did well in the little league world series when they were 12 y/o...

Where is there black on any of our other teams uniforms? They better stop it now or the other Amat athletic teams will have the right to place it on their uniforms based on a precedent that has been established. Hopefully someone is listening and will put a stop to this change of black.

I can see your point and it is the change of times and black is appealing to some on the pro and college of buying replica jerseys etc. The High school level thats why they are called school colors and most HS do not change their colors they were founded and established with. It goes back to the Raider mentality of Amat Nation that the change of color has come in. Players do not dictate the school colors especially at Amat. Best Shortstop is Tommy Reyes of Amat.

No one likes to have someone over their shoulder and that is what this blog has become altho you have the pros vs the anti on any given subject. Verti was roasted in here but had some followers. Nieto is getting his turn now and it has gotten uglier everyday. Amat uniforms I am with you the Lettering looks to be Hoodish ans Amat colors are Royal blue and gold, where is this black coming from? Hope this is not stemming from the Raider mentality the school has now been associated with. Black has never been a color of Amat only if it was cleats but never on a garment of theirs. Change needed there, absolutely!...The crowd Sat. nite was intense and it added to the Blog hype before the game. Glad thats all it was and no one went off the deep end and started a fight. Well the coaches themselfs almost incited that meelee, cooler heads prevailed which is good. I wish Amat played Northview in league and we can see 4 games between them.
