Softball: Tartans win! Tartans win!

South El Monte knocked off top-ranked Charter Oak 5-3 in the opening round of the San Dimas tournament. Then they knocked off No. 2 San Dimas on Wednesday. But that's where the run ended. The Tartans will play Burbank, a 3-1 winner over Alta Loma, in tonight's championship at 6 p.m. Covina fell to Etiwanda, 7-3 in the championship of the Duarte tournament.

Fred- Do you believe?
Way to go LA! Not too bad in the San Dimas Tournament. You beat La Puente 16-0, beat North View 3-2 and you beat San Dimas 4-0. A tough loss to Burbank 0-1 during the tie breaker. You girls are starting to play better as the season goes.
Now its time to play in the Arroyo Tournament on Monday. Good Luck. Try to play error free softball, and you will go far.
Swing away
1 out 3 Ok i'll give you that but only cause of errors! It's a Win but come on know... No Earned runs on the books. And SD still has more wins over Bonita!
Guess 3rd times a charm. Bonita over the Saints 4-0.
How's that for a "marginal" team beating the 2nd rank team in the valley?? not too bad....
Going to give some JV Love
Bonita 7 Arcadia o
Bonita 13 West Covina 8
Bonita 10 So. El Monte 1
Rock On Championship Sat Night
I apologize for that.....No hard feelings!
No hard fellings Man. That's what this if for, to express our thoughts. Take care and I wish your team Good Luck the rest of the season.
Big Daddy we can go back and forth and never get anywhere. But like I said average pitcher, awesome defense. Without the defense she's nothing. The gloria of SEM should be credited to the SS. There were actually more hits that where not allowed due to the awesome defense, short stop! As for SEM el monte getting all those hits. The finally got there first hit in the 5th inning and after that 2-3 more at the most. Like I said you have to be there. Any way like I said back and forth... You have your take on this and I have mine. I'll be the adult, but really the kid and say we'll leave it at that.
Not Stunned
Like I said SD did not get the job done. The average pitcher shut them down
Sorry Big Daddy, It was "Please" who called the SEM pitcher average. Hope Fridays match up lives up to our expectations.
Big Daddy, the pitcher from South that you call average pitched 7 solid innings allowing just 2 hits, no runs and she induced 8 infield groundouts and 8 infield flyouts the day after pitching 6 innings and beating Chartet Oak. 2 wins against 2 of the perennial powers in the valley, then I'll take average any day. No hitting? They had 6 against SD including a bomb from Jessica Hernandez. Hernandez started the rally against CO and Diana Payan had the key hit in both games to give them the lead. They've also gotten hits from players throughout the line up. If Gaber can pitch another gem and keep the Glendora bats quiet we should be in for an entertaining game. The Tartans beat Bonita, a very good team, proving that they too are one of the better teams in the valley. "On Any Given Sunday", not quite, this is a Friday game.
Funny how you spent your afternoon researching the game and yet it's not right. Please don't commnent unless you were there...
Listen Lucky, I just call is like I see it. Here is the Box Score. SCORE

San Dimas didn't get the job done. What's the big deal, in saying they just lost!
very sorry for multiple post folks...computer issues.
Hey Fred, i think you may want to keep an eye on the Upland tournament too. I went to see Diamond Bar play Claremont and a good Temecula Valley team as well as a pretty good Colony team. The Brahmas are currently 2-0-1 with the tie resulting from the Temecula Valley game. They have a good shot at being atleast in the semis. Keep an eye out on #20 Stephanie Larosa(freshmen sister of ex-Brahma Brittany Larosa)..and these girls are BIG.

Covina-Etiwanda game is at 5 p.m. Just confirmed it.
Daddy, Etiwanda is no joke. I can understand the blowouts over Duarte and Baldwin Park, but to beat La Salle 10-0 is scary. They haven't given up a run, which means they have a darn-good pitcher. And they score like crazy. Who knows, Covina has been a surprise. They beat South El Monte, and we know what South El Monte just did to Charter Oak and San Dimas.
Big Daddy, let me find out the time again, I know the schedule says the Duarte final is at 7 p.m., but their athletic director left me a message saying that game is at 5 p.m. I'll confirm it as soon as I can.
In this case it was luck. You had to be there... You keep to your Duarte tourney and we'll keep you posted on the San Dimas Tourney.
Fred, I think the Duarte Championship game is at 7:00 tomorrow. Any predictions? I didn't see these 2 in the finals. I thought the Crescenta Valley would be there. Looking at the scores Etiwanda has blown everybody out. How easy was there pool, I wonder? Are they that good or the other teams that week? I guess we will see tomorrow. Covina has some good numbers, after all they got by Escamilla. Hope it is a good game for both teams.
Yeah, I've got someone covering Covina's championship tomorrow night. I've been told they're playing at 5. Etiwanda sure looks good though.
It's amazing how, when one them beats another, it's always luck. Why can't folks just admitt that there team lost. They just didn't get the job done. South El Monte must have done something right, they got the win in both there games. What does luck do with a base hit or a team making an error. Just give the team credit, they got the people on base when they needed and got the hits(all 3 of them) to win the game. That has nothing to do with luck.
Please South El Monte got lucky! There pitcher is average at best. No bats, they only had 3 base hits. What they have is GREAT DEFENSE! Rematch them again with CO and SD and South El Monte would go down! Glendora has this in the BAG!!!!
Tartans might be good, but I don't think beating Bonita can prove that. Bonita is marginal at best this year. If Glendora can beat South EM then I will be impressed.
Glendora Lady Tartans SHUTING THEM OUT !
Fight On Ladies !!!
TM
Fred, looks like Covina & Etiwanda in the title game at Duarte. Are they going to get any ink??
Fred-
Told you to keep an eye on the Bulldogs.
What a week at San Dimas Tourney. First CO loses to south el monte, LA loses to Burbank, and then So. El Monte upset the favorites, San Dimas. Todays games were unbelievable. Excellent pitching from LA pitcher Diana Patterson and SD pitcher Gipsy Ramirez.
But a lot of us are still trying to figure out why Gipsy Ramirez was pulled out in the 5th with 1 out, 1 base hit and just walking one batter(the entire 5 innings she pitched)???? Big mistake on coaches... We've seen this kid get out of worse!!! SD Sophomore pitcher Kortney Clark came in the 5th and gave up a base hit allowing a run in the 5th and in the 6th gave up a HOMERUN.
forgot to space.....oh well!
Joe Conqueror,
For an "adult" your spelling is sure questionable... "Anyway" not a real word. Any way good luck to you as well. : )
Burbank 9
Ontario Christian 0
Burbank v LA will be a good one.
Hello JC,
Well, if those 2 games set the tone for the rest of the season....then LA softball have a lot to forward to. Like I said, Los Osos is really good team and LA has nothing to be ashamed of. The pre-season is for teams to work on situations and learn from them. Anyways, good luck to you and your team.
Joe Conqueror,
What do you know you finally got something right... I am a kid. Any way, as other people/kids have stated one good pitcher can only take you so far. The defense wasn't there and look what happened... And as for the pre season remark, that just sets the tone for the rest of the year. Hope this wasn't to sarcastic for you. ; )
Okay everyone, I tracked down all the tournament scores, so everything is updated on this thread. On Escamilla, not sure where she is going, but I watched her since she was a freshman at Alverno. Like I stated at the top, she'll probably be the Star-News player of the year
Fred, I was able to see Michelle Escamilla pitch last night in Duarte. The young lady was amazing. What college is she going to? She was simply lights outs. Tough lost, a bobble at 3rd allowed the winning run to reach first, and the number 4 batter battle Escamilla to get the game winning hit. It was a great game. Escamilla had about 14 K's. That girl ws Good!!!!
Fred, what happend to the score board in regards to San Dimas tourney? There's nothing listed in regards to what the girls did for each team? Thanks
Wow! number one ranked team CO loses to South El Monte? Not number one anymore.
Covina defeats Alverno 2-1.... Covina off to a 4-0 start
Let me guess,
I'm guessing that your a student and not an adult. Your sarcastic comment reflects that. Patterson did pitch the 1st game. She pitched all 11 innings and didn't allow any earned runs against a really good Los Osos team. Then she came in and relieved for 4 innings and didn't allow a runner on base. LA had some mental mistakes that cost them the 2 games. That's ok, that's what pre-season is for. Los Osos had 2 pitchers who were outstanding. There better than any team around here...I bet the house on that. Good luck LA! Go and win the San Dimas Tournament.
Couple of weeks ago we scrimmaged CO and then SD. SD won. : ( But SD also scrimmaged CO and SD won them as well... Maybe the top ten isn't quite right yet... It was just a scrimmage but SD did get the WIN over CO.
Hey Great story on Los Altos' Rene Cuellar and her MVP award at the Girls Socceer All-star game she played in. She's such an amazing player!
I saw her play a couple times this season and.............Whaaaaaaaaaaaa? What's that you say? She didn't even play this season for the Conquerors? She got kicked off the team for attitude problems? They did better this year without her? How could a team drop a player like her and have a better record and finish higher in league than they did last season with her in the line-up? Hmmmmmmmmmm...
Sounds like there might be a good story there Mr. Robledo!
Let me guess... LA's number one pitcher didn't pitch either game???? Or did she???
Game scores from Duarte Tournament Monday 3-3-2008
Crescenta Valley 10-3 over Whittier.
Covina 11-1 over Gladestone
Fred,
Anyone interested in JV ? I Love this tourn. We beat San Dimas in there own back yard last year in the Championship. We pummeled them this year in our yearly double header. The best teams in the valley will be here and it is a great challenge. Good Luck to all teams and be careful sliding with those new metal cleats!
Keep an eye on the Bulldogs Fred.
Traditionally, the Duarte isn't a real strong tournament, but it's much better this year. Crescenta Valley has to be the favorites I would think. They have the pitching and a junior who was co-MVP of the Pacific League when she was a freshman. Also watch out for Flintridge Sacred Heart, they can sneak up on you. Alverno has the great pitcher, Michelle Escamilla, who will probably be the Star-News player of the year, and Maranatha is always tough. La Salle, is also a sleeper, but doesn't have the great pitching as in years past. My guess is that Alverno meets Cresc. Valley in the championship with CV winning.
Fred, any favorites out of the Duarte Tournament?? I know that Cerscenta Valley and Covina won there games by mercy rule. I haven't heard to much about any one else. Update me please.
Big Daddy, I'll post scores that are called in. Remember, you can report scores to scores@sgvn.com, or email the final scores to me and I'll post them.
Now that's what I'm talking about! Now all we need is the scores by the end of the day or tomorrow and we'll be on top of things. Thanks Fred.
