This was you for coach

I didn't know Duarte baseball coach Steve Richard, who died of cancer in December. But he sure made a huge impact on his players, who shaved "Richard" on the side of their heads to honor him in Friday's season-opening win over Pasadena. We should all be rooting for these guys, who have been through a lot in recent months. And you couldn't of asked for a better start from left-hander Michael Faram, who struck out 14 in the win. Way to go guys.

"You have no idea how hard it has been," said Duarte coach Kennard Kapono , who took over a month ago. "Being here for four weeks after what happened, and how they came out and played, you couldn't ask for a better game. This is what I've been waiting for. It's my first of hopefully many (wins). I couldn't be with a greater group of kids."
