If you're playing music before games or in-between innings, "Centerfield" has to be on your top hits list. It's the best baseball song ever. Hope those country folks at South Hills are listening.
Steve says, and I quote:
"This one is the best. Oh yeah, there's nothing wrong with country music, and a little Sinatra is OK, too."

MONDAY MORNING FOOTBALL-like it or not, the straw that stirs the drink!
Fred,
MONDAY MORNING FOOTBALL??
softball fan,
Are you also big daddy? you must have a freshman softball player in the area maybe covina? Why would there be such a list? There is so much talent out there and you want the focus on the freshman come on!!! I'm sure they have better things to report on!

Those situations are like umpires/officials calls. When they go against you - you got screwed but of you get one - well, you deserved that one... it was a good call.
People always remember the plays that would change the outcome without considering ones that went the other way. Like I said after Northview beat Amat - scoreboard is all that matters.
Forget the- "what if Amat doesn't line into that double play, what if Zuniga catches that line drive that went off his glove and doubles up NV, what if the left fielder doesn't drop a fly ball, what if...what if...what if...
But like Don Meredith once said on Monday Night Football,
"...If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a Merry Christmas?"
I never said anything about northview not deserving to win the game don't put words in my mouth
Umm, don't the better teams usually make less mistakes?
sgv--you seem to WANT to cover every angle why Covina did this or how the score was refective because of the non-hitting in the ganesha game...well no sh**, isn't there always an excuse..have we not said here 20 different times by 15 different people-IF NV HAD DONE WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED IN THE COVINA GAME, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 2-0 IN 7.. Could of, should of, would of, the bottom line is IT MEANS NOTHING.. NV WON, and unlike the steroids controversy with BONDS there will be NO **** after the NV-Covina game. GET OVER THE RUNNING ERROR, it happened, it was critical but it didn't allow NV the win, it gave a better team on that day another oppurtunity...YES--Covina had the same oppurtunity to come back and score but again IF this and IF that -- didn't happen. STOP WITH THE EXCUSES AND THE THEORIES... NEXT
Well the reason the lights are brought on northview close wins is because of mistakes that lead them to win.. The covina ganesha game covina just wassnt hitting it wassnt a mistake by ganesha that won covina the game
SGV FAN,
It was only brought up as an example of how much disecting each NV win gets. "It was so close" or "They shouldn't have won" etc...3-2 over Ganesha is a little too close for comfort though.
Well u also have to look at 2 other games.. Covina 10 san dimas 1... beleave northview beat them by 1??? Then covina 12 pomona 1.. You beat them 8-0 ??? Covina hassnt played bp so can't compare thoose.. But all that matters is the head up game that northview did win... so other games don't matter if they did covina wins lol but northview is in first so don't bring other "close games" up
Biggest oversight of the last couple weeks was the nailbiter 3-2 Covina win over Ganesha. That got overshadowed by the Northview Covina Game. Same Ganesha team that lost 16-0 to Northview. Much respect to the Colts, but lots of posts about close Northview wins, now a 3-2 win over Ganesha is CLOSE!!!
Baseball Nugget,
Good observations, but what about Northview beating the Colts in 7 innings 2-0 which the score should've been don't you think? It wasn't and that's fine, but the Colts should've tagged up, but they didn't, so mention both scenarios. Good stuff though.
Just watched the video from your post. I have always loved that song, and the video is TOO CUTE!
I remember those days with the "circle". My boys played Youth Pony Ball - I don't know if Little League had the circle thing or not. If that was a home video, it's great, and the little boy is adorable. Now you've got me all sentimental thinking about "the good ol' days", before it got cut-throat. That started when they were about 8! LOL Thanks for the video, I saved it.
Joe Amat - Just read your post. You've got me on those 8-tracks!! Had tons of those too. It cracks me up just thinking about the size difference between those and a CD! Graduated in 1977, back when my boyfriend/now husband would put 35 cents in his little truck and we could drive further than down the street! LOL O.K., so I'm older - but a lot wiser, that's for sure!
Fred,
Do you have a list of the area top freshman softball players. I know that there is some very good talent in the area. I interested who these young ladies are.
Fred
Cool videos. So are you covering this weekend's Northview Freshman tournamnet?
BB Nut,
Always look forward to your poll. Some good insight - and 3rd is about right for Amat.
I also was at the CHS/NV game, and if it goes the other way - then 1-2-3 would have been very clear with Amat stuck at 3. That's life and a result of the NV win over the Lancers - at Henderson. I knew that, but GHS was much easier to type in the middle of a rant!
BASEBALL NUT POLL V
1. NORTHVIEW (10-1)--- They could have easily lost the colt game, BUT GOOD TEAMS WIN CLOSE GAMES. I think shutting out colts for 11 (!) innings is incredible. Andrade mvp of this game.
2. Covina (7-2)--- Now settle down amat fans, Covina played NV alot closer than you and should be 9-0. If ty pill finishes game against damien & covina base runners dont screw up then they are #1. I was ready to move them up to top spot too.
3.Bishop Amat (7-3)--- I can hear the amat wags now, we play better teams, e.g jupiter,tn,oregon....then why cant you beat northview? Good win against chatsworth and a good st paul team.
4.Glendora (6-4)--- The hills are alive with the sound of line drives. After rough start, they are hottest team in SGV.
5.Damien (7-3)---Persati flat out tearing it up! Having to play in the tough Sierra, they are holding their own.
6.South Hills (8-1) I have to agree with fred on this one. Have not really played any great teams until Temple City. And then lost to Temple City.
7. Diamond Bar (5-5-1)---Another good team from the Sierra. Imagine having to play chino,c hills, glendora and then damien. Nasty.
8.Nogales (9-4)---Many thought that I was wrong about this team. But they are proving that good coaching and solid effort equals victories.
9.San Dimas (5-4)---Still a threat, lost heartbreaker to vikings and should bounce back. Too many good pitchers and hitters.
10.Blogger's choice.--- Who do YOU think should be in the top ten and is being ignored? South el monte, freds choice? How about Diamond Ranch or Walnut? Rowland? Write in your own poll or team that should be number ten in the rankings.
Baseball Nut Nuggets....After watching the crazy 11 inning marathon at Covina I need to say congrats to NV for winning. That being said dont blame the third base coach, anybody should understand the situation and should be tagging up. A mental mistake kept the colts from winning, pure and simple...When NV and Amat played in the showdown,it was not played at GHS Joe amat, it was played at Henderson Field. The distinction is important because it is a pony field with much smaller dimensions....Very cool watching the Glendora and Diamond Bar games, those teams play at a very high skill level and can really hit the ball....come on out and support the Covina/NV tournament starting next week, should be some very exciting baseball, Don you are right it will be well attended and should have an improved snack bar,lol...Good luck to all teams and PLAY BALL!
covinabaseballfan,
At least you didn't say "8-track"!:?) ...c'mon, don't lie - you had some too!
I thought it was called "Put Me In Coach" too.
This one might not be an "in-between-inning" song, but it is a great baseball song.
We sing this and "Right Field" around a campfire every summer.

I have to agree, nothing kicks off the baseball season like CENTERFIELD!!
Great choices. I always thought "Centerfield" was called "Put Me In Coach" for some reason. There are a lot of good baseball songs - love to hear them at games. There should be a CD with them on it. I have a cassette tape with a lot of baseball songs on it - really dating myself now!
that video is tight. Robinson looked out at home, the ump was saying safe before he even got there.
