Another VVL thriller, Saints 1, Vikes 0, 12
I've never seen anything like this, the pitching in the Valle Vista is surreal. It took San Dimas 20 innings to score on Northview and what a run it was. Omar Rodriguez's 12th inning double scored Scott Lambert from second for the 1-0 victory. This followed Northview's 1-0, eight-inning victory over San Dimas in their first meeting last month. San Dimas' Chris Drossel struck out four of the first five batters he faced, and gave up only three hits over nine innings, handing it over to league MVP Kevin Ponzo to close out the 10th, 11th and 12th. And what can you say about Northview starter Eddie Pedroza, who allowed just four hits over 7 2/3 innings before handing it over to Marc Andrade, who hadn't allowed a hit for four innings before finally giving up a run in the 12th. Just an amazing game. Northview's big chance came in the ninth inning when they loaded the bases with one out. They tried selling a bunt twice, then tried it again on a squeeze that they got down, but San Dimas got the easy force at home, then got a fly out to get out of the inning. Still, what another VVL thriller. San Dimas is now 12-5 and 5-2 while Northview drops to 14-4 and 7-1. I suggest you show up at San Dimas on Friday for the rubber match. Game time is 3:15 p.m.

“Our guys hung in there. We really have a good team, but we hadn’t won the big game to get over the hump until today.
On Chris Drossel.
"Chris Drossel is a difference maker. Nobody thought he was the real deal. When we played Covina, somebody was like 'who is this guy.' If you've been reading the papers he's the guy who throws the two-hitter, the three-hitter and today he struck out eight and pitched another great game. He's one of those competitors, just a totally different guy."
On Omar Rodriguez's game winning hit.
"He didn't have really have great at bats all day, but he's done this before for us. He's had games where he struck out twice and then comes back and hits two doubles. It says something about not only him but our team. They didn't quit. They fought through it all. I'm really proud of them."
On Northview's pitching
"The lefty (Eddie) Pedroza shoved it. He kept us off balance. We were out in front of everything. Then they bring in Marc Andrade, and anyone whose been around knows that he's an amazing pitcher too. For whatever reason, once he (Andrade) got in the game we took better strokes, and maybe that's because we didn't have as much time to think.
On Northview
"They're ranked number one in the Valley and number one in our Division for a reason. You have to tip your hats to those guys because they play hard and they compete. Today was just our day I guess, and Friday's another big one."
On the VVL
"Our league prepares us for everything. We've battled with everybody. We lost to Covina when Pill threw the best game I think I've ever seen a high school guy throw. This is by far the best team we've had. It's the best team Northview's had and one of the best team Covina's had. When everyone has a good team like this it's unbelievable. Look at the pitching you've got with Pill and that lefty from Covina. Northview's got three guys that shove it and we've got our two. Really, I've never seen anything like this."

On the game
"I'm sure it's a game that a lot of people that were here will remember for a long time. It was real intense, but I'm disappointed on our end because we had opportunities galore and we couldn't get one clutch at bat. We put guys in scoring position and their pitchers made pitches, but our hitters didn't make hits. We have to hit better Friday to win."
On what happened with the squeeze attempt in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and one out.
"We didn't execute it. If we get it in the right spot it's a run and we win the game. The kid that bunted had been struggling, and sometimes you have to force the action. Both coaches started feeling that you had to push a run across. We weren't getting a lot of clutch hits. They had one more clutch hit than we did, that's the difference in the game. Hey, we've been on the other end, it stings to be on the bottom end, but Friday we'll be back."
On the VVL
"We have two teams at the bottom that are struggling, and that kind of seems to be the knock when people try to compare our league. They concentrate more on our bottom two. There's not a lot of leagues with three teams having the wars we're having with the wear and tear we put on each other. It's one thing to win games 16-10, but the wars we're having are one-run games because the pitching is so good. That's what's exciting about the Valley Vista, the pitching is without a doubt the best around."

Who is Drossel? Who is Drossel? Drossel is the kid who completed 17 innings against NV and allowed 5 total hits, zero runs. He lost the first game on an unearned run caused by an error.

I've been keeping some other SGV thoughts in my head, so time to share those too. I talk a lot about Northview's absent offense, but what makes it worse is how did San Dimas pitching do that? Who is Drosel and other chunky kid that throws and why are they dominating? Charter Oak is a bust this year. I don't care about that crappy first place they are in. They can't beat a dead horse, but have a nice field, if that matters. Miss the posts on here by Ms. P from the Colt Empire. I guess the posts are missing just like the team lately. Lost Hills? Oh I guess that's who South Hills reminds me of. Has anyone seen them play this year? Big Ups to Bonita and the black jerseys. Didn't know that was a school color. Go get em wannabee gangstas from La Verne.

what i said was that nv has not blown any team away, except for early in the season against an ill prepared bonita team. but tell what quality team they have beat convincingly? and your gonna say a win is a win, i know thats how u idiots think. but think of the future. do u not see how this will affect them in the playoffs. you and i know they cant hit for crap. there is not one scary hitter in that lineup. they are all singles hitters. that catcher is a waste of size because he has no power, and the 3b is off and on. their pitching has been good so far, but come on they are not the 90's braves. good pitching does in fact beat a good offense, but you have to able to at least score a run in 12 innings!

I'm a Covina fan and follow the Colts, but we mercied a Monrovia team that threw a freshman or sophomore or both that don't normally pitch in our tournament, so it does make a difference who you face on the bump (pitchers mound for those that don't know).
Look these pitchers are good but the hitters are making the look better then they are. These hitters are undiciplined.
NV is lucky to score 2 runs on any team.

Pleaassseeee don't even mention monrovia covina mercied them the day before they are nothing compared towhat they are.. And to people saying "northview lost it" arnt they still in first place??? Every team goes thro a funk and northview has givin themselves a cusion to be able to do that.. so no reason to hit the panic button.. Now if they lose tommarrow then there in trouble
People that are Semi Intelligent (This excludes DodgerDork), You mention no real Impressive wins for NV, beat Bonita (winners of the NV Tournament), Alta Loma (who is 13-3 right now)and a good Amat team in the Glendora Tournament CHampionship. In league, they have impressive wins over 2 top 10 teams in Covina and San Dimas. They split a doubleheader against Mayfair earlier this year (Mayfair is 15-4 and in first place in their league) They lost to University 3-1 in a tournament game, the same University who beat Diamond Bar 10-1 the next day. Monrovia loss was questionable, but game was won with 2 outs in the 7th, but couldn't close it out, which happens...Did I mention Monrovia is a two time CIF Finalist the last 2 years in their division. If I remember right, that's 6 wins against teams in the Tribune top 10 with one loss. Not bad for a shitty team. So far, I 've heard Northview be called shitty and lucky...How many local teams would take that combo right now?

i agree with an earlier posting, nv is running out of gas. the problem is they did not have much to begin with. they really have not had a big time impressive victory. their good wins have been close ones and they lost to mayfair, university, and monrovia, thats pathetic. im not sure what that idiot earlier was blabbering about me but i have always said nv is not as great as their la times ranking and now everyone sees that. he was right about me saying they will be better next year. i predict they will be out by the second round in cif this year.

Northview you must remember you lost your own hosted tournament with teams you should normally beat, then we beat you yesterday. The horserace is not over but I can see your team is tiring in the stretch. Will there be enuf gas come the end for your team or will your team Peter out like it did last year.? Sure you beat B.Amat and you should beat them they are a big name playing where they belong D5. Honestly I see your team losing in CIF AGAIN!

Sd has been SPANKEd a few too many times to start giving out advice but HEY great game Wednesday and my advice to you - worry about your own team. Living on that one tournament win over Bishop Amat is not going to carry you Northview, you still have other games to play in your league. Drop them to #2 and put the Saints as No.1

let us all remind you how the idiot fernando/dodger lover came on board, ripping and ragging on the nv team and mentioning how much better the pitching was going to be NEXT YEAR, (a clue to who HE really is) ragging on the coach and then certain hitters, talking smack about inside information on some of the players, but according to him,initially the pitching was weak and would KILL next year -- well as you can see HE has back pedalled and changed his whole story. I am pretty sure anyone who knows the game can figure NV is struggling a bit with the bats right now-- unlike the beginning of the year when their amount of runs scored a game proved the CHUB lover's theory completely inaccurate. Just a reminder cause he will come on again claiming he called it all from the beginning all while he supports HIS "FAMILY" members team. This is a sad, loser who has taken joy with NV's struggles right now - all cause his "family" guy doesn't start! Laugh with us people.
I don't see no mention of AZUSA'S AZTEC baseball team winning duarte yesterday 9-4. AZUSA continues to get better every game they play.Their playing this Friday at AZUSA High School, and hopefully they team can get the sweep!Montview league CHAMPS? sitting in the drivers seat right now!

heres an idea for a blog: which offense is better, the nv baseball team's or the nv softball team's? lol, im just kidding, the softball team's offense is way better. i hear a lot of people mentioning how great the pitching is at nv and sd but was also has to be mentioned is how bad their hitting is. i was not at the game today but 1 run through 12 innings is pretty bad. you can say how good the pitching is because they shut each other down, but outside of league they give up runs. on a postive note, pedroza is still only a sophomore and hes bound to continue that great pedroza family legacy.

I'm a MV homer but I got to tell you that was a great game this afternoon. Another great pitching duel between NV and SD. That pitcher from San Dimas has done it to us twice, we were lucky to get that unearned run in the eigth inning the last game. SDs pitcher Chris Drosler or something threw an unbelievable nine innings and worked himself out of at least two jams. Great effort, whats that like seventeen innings against us with one unearned run? He's definitely as good as our top two. Good luck to both teams on Friday.

Wow! What a pitcher's duel that must have been. I guess it was sweet payback for San Dimas against Northview. The teams in the VVL must have set a record this year for extra-inning games. If this comes up twice, sorry, didn't think it went through the first time.
