Northview-San Dimas III ... Vikings Rally, 8-5
Northview 8, San Dimas 5
HOW IT UNFOLDED DOWN THE STRETCH: Ramirez texted me and said San Dimas had a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth, then just texted back and said it's 5-4 San Dimas, but Northview has the bases loaded and not outs in the top of the seventh. Uh, oh, it's another text, Arnold just hit a two-run double, the Vikings lead 8-5, and there are still no outs. Just got another update, it's 8-5 Vikings, but the Saints have runners on 1st and 2nd, 1-out in the bottom of the 7th.....Nervous Time ....Final text, those Vikings did it again, 8-5.
Northview, after getting just three hits through the first five innings, scored three runs in the sixth then made it 5-4 in the seventh following a single by Ruben Ramirez, a hit-batter and a two-base throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Gabe Jaramillo. Back-to-back hit batters then made it 5-5 before Shane Fraijo walked with the bases still loaded to make it 6-5. Ryan Arnold then doubled in two to account for the final 8-5 score.
San Dimas put runners on first and second with no outs in its half of the seventh, but a fly out to center field and line-drive double play ended it.
Northview coach Darren Murphy on the comeback: “There’s a saying in sports to never under-estimate the heart of a champion. I told them (going into the sixth), ‘Right now, that fits us to a tee. There’s a reason we’ve won this league the last two years.’ If you’re going to take something from somebody, you’re going to have to knock them out. We were staggering and on the ropes, but we came back with a Hail Mary. I’m just amazed, to come back the way we did after losing in 12 innings on Wednesday, it just says a lot about these kids.”
San Dimas coach Mike Regan: “It’s awful. I think we gave it away. That’s my own opinion. When you have a great team like Northview, you can’t allow them to have extra opportunities, because they did what they did, they took advantage of it.”
Northview's Ruben Ramirez, who went 3 for 4 and got the win in relief: “We just didn’t give up. We have heart. We knew we were going to win it.”
March 19: Northview 1, San Dimas 0, 8 innings
April 16: San Dimas 1, Northview 0, 12 innings
Fred's thoughts before the game, spot on: This nil-nil stuff can't keep happening. Northview's Aaron Elias and San Dimas' Kevin Ponzo should start, but something tells me the bats are going to come alive today. If San Dimas wins, the VVL race is wide open again and Vikes fans are going to hear it from the bloggers on how they're slipping down the stretch. If Northview wins, case closed, they won't blow a two-game lead. Start playing, "We are the champions."

I know we talk a lot in here about the Valle Vista, but there are other big games today.
Mission Valley League
South El Monte (8-4, 6-2) at Gabrielino (13-5, 8-0), 3:15 p.m.
The Eagles absolutely have to have this game to get back in the league chase. It's a tough assignment on the road, but definitely doable.
Montview League
Duarte (12-7, 3-2) at Azusa (7-6, 5-2), 3:15 p.m.
The Aztecs beat the Falcons 9-4 on Wednesday to move into a first-place tie in the Montview, setting up today's game for first place. The Montview is crowded though, Sierra Vista and Workman are both 4-2-1, but the winner today obviously has the inside track.

I wonder if Regan will blame his boys for the BP loss...Did they "blow it" again Regan. No disrespect to the sd players, some good talent there.
rc - that was good. NVfan, sorry that those people are calling you pathetic, but I can assure you I am not any of them.
Besides you love me, without me you wont have anyone to blame, so you would go to your miserable life and fight with your poor husband. You see i bet he loves me, because i take you off his back.
Look at it like this, I am the therapist.
As a matter of fact that will be my new name because i have come to realize that even the nv fans need my therapy, hell most of the posters here need my therapy, of course covinafan aka sgvfan is my worst patient.
all you can do is insult me because you know i am always right
guilty as charged - pathetic
What verdict?
NVFan - maybe the verdict is in
rocket scientist, only on person calls me pathetic, covinabaseballfan, sgvbaseballfan and now rocket scientist, all the same
Hey, no team can take Baldwin Park lightly. They are a scrappy team that doesn't give up and they have been like that for years. No shame there for San Dimas. It could have happened to any of the top teams. NVfan, won't mention names, but only one player is being pushed for POY on this board. If you don't think sgvbaseballfan is a kid, he's sure got you fooled! LOL
REGAN'S A BUM LOSING TO BP!
WHAT A JOKE..
LEARN THE GAME YOU LOSER!
sgvfan like i said his name was not mentioned in this thread, you bring him up for no reason. You do not sound like a kid. You really like the attention, stop campaigning for player of the year.
All you nv sd bonita covina people are all weak div 4 crap big fish in a small pond come out in the ocean and see what would happen to you
And tell me u say pill losses al the big games but the only 1 he's lost in league is 1 san dimas game when he got no offence lol
Obvious that sgvbaseballfan is a kid himself, definitely not a parent. Maybe a teammate defending his friend when people like you talk trash about him. You ask why he jumps in saying good stuff about Pill, but why do you always jump in with bad stuff about Pill? You're kind of pathetic, really. It's getting old.
He's not my kid lol
Dear sgvbaseballfan, i have noticed that whenever there is a thread and other kids are being praised like Drossell, all you can do is play the victim card about Pill when no one is talkig about him. Then you remind us about his abilities and stats.
is it hat important for you that your kid gets attention?
So i will remind you, he is not the best player in the Valley, does not hit in the big games, and does not win them on the mound. Grat stats against Pomona and Geneisha do not count.
If true about SD--Couldn't have happened to a nicer team. Did Regan say his team "blew it again"?? Even with Baldwin Park's W-L record this year, you can never underestimate them. They are usually much tougher than their record indicates.
Ya san dimas lost
Is it true that Baldwin Park beat San Dimas today 8 to 7? That's the rumor. Someone please confirm. BP does this once a year, not sure why they don't win more games, they have good players.
Hey no worse than the Drossel family--it's been one day and they haven't begged for him to be POY yet, probably due. Kind of embarrasing don't you think? LOT more to it than a GREAT pitching record, I will give him ups on some good games though BUT that is about it. Now quit begging-I am sure he doesn't want the attention and if he does how weak is that?
Hey mrs persatti thanks for the posts and updates on danny boy. keep up the good work, he's the apple of your eye isnt he?
FRED -- NOTE THE CAPS BECAUSE I AM SCREAMING -- ARE WE ANY CLOSER TO GETTING THIS POSTING ISSUE RESOLVED??? IT IS JUST AWFUL AND I AM SURE IT IS DETERRING SO MANY OF US TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO POST!!! IF IT ALL COMES DOWN TO HITS AND HOW MANY PASTS - SHOULDN'T THE TRIBUNE BE ON IT AND IF SO - HOW LONG DOES IT REALLY TAKE??

Its truly sad, because coaches are expected to lead by example, and this person has to be a product of his past.
Amazing that the product isn't re-tooled to serve a better purpose.

Insider,
I would agree with you about the kids getting along. I don't think the parents are the problem, in most cases. I think that there are a few coaches with bad attitudes that stir the pot and get the tempers flaring between rival teams. I think one of those coaches has been mentioned time and time again on these threads so I won't go there, but I think we all know who that is. If we could start at the top and have those positive role models for coaches it will dribble down and have a profound affect on our kids. I love to see the kids out there competing having fun!

Denny,
Joe Amat is correct, not too sure how hapless Bishop Montgomery is? They played Amat on the previous Tuesday and lost 3-2 - Amat was just on in this game and scored almost at will and Nieto was going station to station the last 3 innings. So, please get your facts straight before you pop off about something you obviously have no clue. Amat is really getting it going right now they beat Loyola this weekend at ELAC 9-3, Tommy Reyes hit a shot over both the homerun wall and the 80' net protecting the cars parked behind it What a shot that was, also the sophmore Paez came in the last 2 innings and just totally shut Loyola down, great pitching performance.

SO PROUD OF THE NV TEAM, COACHES AND THE FAN SUPPORT IS OFF THE CHARTS. IF THE CHANTS ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE L.A. ANGELS AND THE DODGERS THEN IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE VIKINGS. IT IS FOR THE KIDS AND NOTHING IS BEING SAID TOWARDS THE OTHER TEAMS AT ALL...ALL IN TOTAL SUPPORT FOR OUR KIDS. AS WITH MOST TEAMS AND MOST KIDS - WE ARE SO PROUD AND WANT THE VIKES TO KNOW WE ARE BEHIND THEM ALL THE WAY. IN GOOD AND BAD TIMES. KEEP ROCKIN VIKES.

Would have to agree with your comments.
Bottom line, Regan is not a very positive coach or has much to say unless they win!
The guy has little or no repsect in the coaching community. Too bad SD doesn't search for some new blood and upgrade the staff...
Players would response and excell to a different level with a players coach..
Baseball Insider,
Very good point. What I did notice right after the game between SD and NV on Friday was a couple players from both sides give each other high 5's or fist bumps as a way of saying "Good game". The funny thing is it's usually off the field that causes the drama or perhaps these blogs that stir the pot. Great coverage by Fred and Steve, but it's almost uncomfortable to read what's going to be on here next about your kid(s) or his or her coaches. I doubt it, but would be great to see everyone here post all the positive things they've seen this year on the diamond. Hey, I'll start with a few...
1. Level of talent in the SGV is tremendous. The players and coaches are working their butts off and the high quality of ball is showing.
2. Pitching in the area is lights out. Nice to see some low scoring games that have us on the edge of our seat in the 6th and 7th inning.
3. Crowds are off the charts at ballgames or at least the ones I've seen.
I'll come back for more or would like to hear some from some of you. It's Sunday after all, let's see if we can be positive.

Everyone,
Some good and insightful comments about the fans, kids, players and coaches. WE are all very passionate bout our teams and their players success.
Its too bad that a few parents or kids just being kids have to take away from what the game is all about, school teams playing school teams. Sometimes I wonder if its better to just have the kids and coaches at games, leave everyone else at home. Point of the matter is this - players on the field have a respect for one another - hey some ofthe kids on opposing teams play ball with each other during the off season. Some are pretty good friends. Lets use their example and leave things where it should be - on the field. Maybe all of us can get along. Good luck to all the teams and players.
Please, let's not start the Amat-NV thing again. Let a dead horse be dead. Northview won 4-1. End of story. Both teams move on and enjoy your seasons.

Denny - that Alzheimers is really kicking in. Turn off that caps key - it hurts the eyes.
I'm not sure how "hapless" bishop montgomery is, they have a .600 winning %, beat Palos Verdes who is 20-3 and have wins over Crespi (who was everyones "hot" team a couple of weeks ago), El Segundo, and Santa Monica (who knocked off NV in last years semis). No stat padding for Lancer starters either - 22 guys played and they threw a guy who had only pitched one inning this season. Saved everyone for the win over Loyola on Saturday.
Do your research - you can't just walk into the court room, pop off and win cases anymore. Ask Alan Shore - he'll tell you over a scotch and a cigar on the balcony.
Any school that gets to play 9 games against Baldwin Park, Ganesha and Pomona should not go around calling anyone "hapless"!
THE GAME IN THE NORTHVIEW TOURNAMENT.BETWEEN CHARTER OAK AND NORTHVIEW WAS WHAT HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL IS ALL ABOUT.GREAT GAME GREAT FAN'S EVERYBODY CHEERING FOR THERE TEAM.NO OBNOXIOUS FANS OR AIR HORNS.THE 2ND GAME BETWEEN SD AND NV,12INN. AT NORTHVIEW WAS ALSO A GREAT GAME.THEN GOING TO SAN DIMAS FOR THE 3RD GAME.JUST SEEM'S TO BRING THE WORST IN YOU.DON'T KNOW IF IT'S THE AREA OR JUST THE FAN'S LAST YEAR WAS THE SAME WAY WITH ONE LOUD MOUTH PARENT.THIS YEAR WITH THE STUPID AIR HORN.MAYBE SOME SAN DIMAS FANS HAVE MAD COW DISEASE.NORTHVIEW-COVINA HAVE A GREAT RIVALRY.BUT OVERALL THE FANS ARE PRETTY GOOD.
Barrio Boys (NV) 8
Stuck Up Whiners (SD) 5
Truth hurts and only truth here is the SCOREBOARD!!!
If that's what one or two of them think about the boys, so be it, but I wonder what they think of the 3 or 4 hispanic boys on their own team?

I agree with Denny Crane,
Why doesn't Regan do something other than disrespect the other team and our coach. I can tell you even since I played, he has always talked trash to our coach refused at times to shake his hand and I don't know why the SD parents tolerate his comments in the paper continually throwing his players under the bus, "we blew it" on and on. You guys have some top notch pitching to bad you can't ditch your coach.
HUH? That air horn thing was pure crap!!! I mean to blow the horn at the exact time as our players were about to field the balls is ridiculous. They should have been given a warning or tossed those stupid people. That's equivalent to yelling "swing" to an opposing batter. It is pathetic. As for our parents and fans, honestly there are only a few parents (2) who sort of get on my nerves. I'm pretty sure that Murphy has asked them to tone it down a bit. Bottom-line is that when teams are up they gloat and when teams are down, they complain. It happens at 99.9% of all schools, not just ours and SD. All I can say was that it was a great game. I enjoyed every minute of it. Hats off to the SD pitchers. Those guys are studs. I am also very proud to be a Viking because we have some amazing kids.
HUH?? (how befitting clueless one) You do not even want to get me started on classless coaches - COACH REAGN TAKES THE CAKE ON THAT AWARD. He is foul, a bad sport and quite the little cry baby - does SD always "give it away" when they lose, does HE ever give credit for the WIN to the right team? No he totally throws his own team under the bus by saying THEY blew it, THEY gave it away. He is just a low-life little whiner. WE WON'T EVEN GET INTO THE WHOLE DRINKING INCIDENT AGAIN, and the fact people have actually seen him drunk and shhoting off his foul mouth. Ido not ever agree with any parents yelling things at the other kids, NO HOW NO WAY, we do not have many at nv, and a few are the "much older" generation and think it's ok to say whatever they want-because they are old. I don't care if the coaches argue with the umps, be it Murphy or Regan, it's a tight game, the pressure is on and I am sure both coaches are convinced they are right and trying to protect their own kid. I am sure every school has their fair share of idiot fans, it's pretty hard to control the high school kids at the games though and i think the NV coaches tried but really THEY do have other things to worry about. Please in the future leave the tacky, racist comments out, and just remember NV and SD aren't that far apart and really are pretty similar in it's surroundings. what an ignorant, tacky, classless comment to make but after seeing the scoreboard on Friday - I can understand your hurt feelings. SCOREBOARD
denny crane,
If you were there you know there wasn't an air horn that anyone heard, let alone the players. How could anyone hear anything with the obnoxious NV parents with their little league chants??? Real grown up folks from NV. Wow dude, unbelievable. The air horn noise was probably an excited NV parent or student they brought with them, kinda like on Wednesday. Did NV pay the kids to yell obscenities and trash talk all game long, oh until they NV lost??????
I JUST CAN'TBELEIVE NIETO AND HIS AMAT RAIDERS. RAN UP THE SCORE ON HAPLESS BISHOP MONTGOMERY.24-5 THAT SHOULD HIS PLAYERS WAY UP THERE IN THE STATS.THEY SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 3 PLAYERS IN THE 600 BATTING RANGE.SHOULD SOUND GOOD AT THE ALL LEAGUE MEETINGS.MAYBE THIS IS WHY SOME TEAMS DON'T REPORT STATS.THERE SO INFLATED IT'S A JOKE.WHAT ARE THESE PLAYERS GOING TO THINK WHEN THEY START PLAYING REAL BASEBALL. AND DROP ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE 300 BATTING RANGE.THEY FELL LIKE THERE COMPLETE FAILURES.JUST ONE'S FAN OPINION......
PERHAPS SAN DIMAS COACH REGAN COULD TELL HIS RETARD FAN IN LEFT FIELD THAT NO AIR HORNS ARE ALLOWED CHECK CIF RULE 131-6 P46.ONE OF THE RETARDS IN LEFT FIELD WOULD BLOW IT JUST WHEN THE VIKINGS WERE TO MAKE A PLAY .ONE OF THE UMPIRES SHOULD HAVE GONE OUT THERE AND SAID IF I HEAR IT AGAIN YOUR OUT OF HERE.
sgv baseball fan
Yeah some of what you are saying about Pill is true. One though, he can't win the big games. He's been rocked a few times and folded under pressure. So there is doubt about him being a shoe in - ain't gonna happen dude. sorry for you and yours
Pill is the player.. He's gonna end the season with over 100 k's 1 loss in league and will be leading the league in homeruns and probly average.. Not to mention he throws the hardest outta anyone in the league and has the best control
Tddy
Sorry the VVl fans are not talking about your kid. Dross has our votes.

Bottom line is NV is in first and SD Third
What if's are just BS!
Will someone please get off Drossell nuts? Jeez, POY, come on...it's early and your team is not even in first place in your league. No knock on the kid, but he has some success this year and we're blogging him all over the place now...Come on Drossell family, chill out, enough already. Arguably one of 3 best in the VVL, let's not crazy here. Doesn't do enough at the plate to be the big Kahuna.

Fred J. and VVL fans,
DROSSEL for POY? I think its too early to tell, not sure about that. I do know he plays outfield and made a couple of great plays on well hit balls yesterday. I'm guessing his batting average is decent, I've seen him hit a number of doubles and triples. I can say right now he's got to be one of the top pitchers in the valley. I've seen him pitch twice this year and damn, he is definely lights out. Maybe there is a category for top pitcher?
Steve R. ,
Thank you for saying the truth about what you saw and heard. If you go back to the posts made by Northview fans after Wed. game, you saw quite a few that said how great a game it was and how well Drossell pitched etc. It was a great game on both days, both teams probabally got what they deserved, a split. Northview could lay claim that they should've won Wed. and SD vice versa for Friday. What I find to be offensive and elitist is when you get beat by Northview, a SD fan/poster uses the "barrio" card in reference to the Northview players. I'm with Steve on this one, I stood behind the backstop and I heard good cheering from both sides with a few comments made toward the Northview catcher by a SD adult that was uncalled for and if #18 got his payback after, good for him. What I see from Northview is a team with the heart of a lion that never quits. Whether you like that or not, you have to respect it and it's not luck, when it happens year after year. I do notice from a lot of coaches that their comments in the paper afterwards or about how they lost the game or threw it away, but look back over the year, Northview coaches give the other team credit all the time. Don't cry over a loss SD fan or poster (I don't think it's the majority or more than a couple fans), your kids battled and compete. To come on here after make a "barrio" comment is flat out racist. There's no other way to put it.
Hey NV fans
You already know this but let me take you to last Wednesday's game at NV vs SD. There were a few of us who were embarassed by what our fans (kids and parents) were saying about the SD players and umpires. Yeah it was heat of the moment type stuff but to make fun of all the batters, pitchers and umpires from the opposing team, etc. is really in bad taste. I want to emphasize, we have a good team and all that, but some of you parents are acting like little league parents and you hign schoolers are foul mouthed and acting like trash talking junior high kids. That's why we get the bad reputation. The ca\oaches asked you guys to calm down but you didn't. I can see where the other blogger was coming from. Please don't continue to embarass your team anc coaches. Keep it clean and be good sports and enjoy the success of our Vivkings.
D.B. fan?You sure, don't sound like a REAL D.B. fan! If, you were at ANY of the games...You would know who the #1 pitcher is!hmmm....
I have to agree with NVFan. The Northview contingent was loud, but I didn't notice any jeers towards San Dimas. I almost find the reference comical, because when Northview rallied back to make it 4-3, I was standing behind home plate and a San Dimas fan yelled to Northview catcher Robert Williams, "That's your run, '18,'" in obvious reference to Williams' passed ball in the fifth. So, when Williams popped back at the guy after the final out of the game, I didn't mind it. He earned that.
For me, I not a big trash talker, but it's one thing to talk trash to another adult or a young adult to talk trash to another young adult, but for an adult to trash talk like that to a high-school age kid seems a little classless to me.
The sierra league teams have one major problem lack of 2 quality starters. Seems like Chino Hills wins when Jonathon Montoya is pitching and the same with Glendora when their ace is on the mound. D-Bar has no real #1 pitcher and Chino and Damien has no real ace. Ayala has no pitching and thus in last place. Once the playoffs start these teams the sierra league will be in trouble. The #1 team in D2 REV has 2 aces in Tyler Chatwood(UCLA) and Matt Andriese(UCR). Yucaipa the #2 team has 2 very good pitchers in Scott Snodgress(Stanford) and jr Matt Davidson(USC). Chino Hills and Glendora may make it past round one however they will be out. The 3rd place team will be out in the first round.
It was obvious why Drossel wasn't pitching, after throwing 9 innings on Wednesday. POY Does Drossel play when he isn't pitching and what position? Is he a good hitter? Just wondering because you keep pushing him for POY.
Nv parents embarassing,
please...we may be loud and supportive of our boys, but your coach has always been a disrespectful foul mouthed bafoon who disrespects our coach, our players and his own players from the looks of it.
Drossel probly wassnt pitching because your only allowed 10 innings a week..that's why u need more than 2 pitchers.. Or if u do have 2 they gotta be able to pitch threw injury.. Not knowcking san dimas in any way by that so don't get me wrong that wassnt directed twords them
Fred here's the real deal,
NV escapes with the win
WHY Drossel wasn't pitching, end of story.
NV bats got a chance to heat up after Ponzo left the game due to injury. I guess luck, fate, whatever played into NV on Friday.
Yosemite Sam
Airhorn what the hell are you talking about? The only airhorn was the pathetic display of unsportman like parents who badmouth every umpire, berate the other teams players and whine about every pitch. Even the players follow your pathetic example. Hey it starts with the pathetic coaches who lead by poor example, followed by the players who badmouth other kids and whining parents who are no better. Nice reputation for a team that is lucky, can't hit and can't act with decency. Hope you lose every last game you pathetic school and waste of unsportsmanlike conduct. You are a poor excuse for a decent sport. Barrio ball
Vikes pull it out in come from behind fashion 8-5. These two teams are tough, nice to see the Vikes hit some balls in the gaps and 2 or 3 that would've been gone at most fields. Nice airhorn in left field by some kid or parent that would blow the horn when Northview was about to make a play. I don't care what side they were cheering for, that was ridiculous and uncalled for.

Who pitched for both teams today?
Fred:
This kid Drosell has to be considered for POY.
What a amazing transformation he has made over the last three years!
Yikes Vikes and you NV faithful,
Yeah we got the win and we're proud of that. But guess what? WE suck against good pitching. SD Drossel blanked us again, Ponzo blanked us for three on Wed and two today. What does that say about our bats???? We need to get real maybe this game will kick us into gear. Good luck Vikes.
way to make us proud northview, you guys are amazing!!!!!!!!
