One player per position! YES!!!!

See it works.

Maybe next year the Trib will do the same for football.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

SGV Dude,

The only one i know talking to colleges is Sebastian Rivas of that horrible Amat team. I mean the kid is getting scouted by Wake Forest, UCSB, North Carolina, Stanford, and Ohio State only naming a couple from the ones i remember when i spoke to his father. The boy has been chosen for the ODP team for the '91s and has made 1st team all cif, what is now called ALL LA84 SOUTHERN SECTION. I believe the one with the horrible eyes should be those who see him as a bad player. I believe maybe those who are upset are those who maybe didnt have their kid picked for the team. I'm sorry but i feel all those who made 1st and 2nd team should be praised as the great athletes that all of them are and those who have a problem with it should maybe just keep it to themselves and let it all out when your crying yourself to sleep.

in my eyes i am a bit disappointed on how mtn view players were overlooked for 1st team, lets recall that mtn view was the best team in the league and it wasnt all due to jairo aquino, he obtained co-mvp next to his fellow sophmore classmate diego rodriguez, mtn views defense was one of the best, and also i believe the coach of the year award should have been awarded to the mtn view coaching staff, as it was their first year as varsity coaches, Mtn View went further in CIF and their record showed their quality, not to mention they were Wilson Tournament champs, a tournament that La Puente participated in... I understand it is a hard process in selecting, but if there is gonna be such a selection lets take more time into it... Because alot of the kids hardwork goes untold specially after going so far as CIF SEMIFINALS

Fred/SIG,
Playing an 'All Star' game this year and next would be fantastic. But Club Nationals are upon us and getting some players to play could get tricky.

I would also propose you have a Seniors only game and a Future Stars game (underclassmen). Most schools will only recognize (nominate) their Seniors, who may not be the best player(s) on the team.

Silence is Golden said:

Really ???? I respect that. No need to bring players into this that didn't ask for inclusion. I do however had a question about your passion about the game.

How about an All Star Game THIS year?

As far a talent goes is anyone going to play college soccer?

Thanks for the information. Soccer is a very passionate sport and like any other sport, if recognition is to be done, then try to be fair about it. Let's face it, Amat did not have a good team this year. To have two of their players on this list is beyond me. They struggled from the get go and still get props considering the SGV has much better talent to consider. Because of past experience with this blog, I would never mention any kids name on here.

While we're on the subject of soccer, I'm trying to get an all-star game going next season like the one we have in basketball where our all-area team takes on the Star-News all-area team in boys and girls basketball. I've talked to our other sister newspaper at the Whittier Daily News, and they're interested in having their all-star teams play ours next year maybe two weeks after the season ends. What do you all think? I've talked to some coaches here who want it to happen and will provide the facilities, referee's, etc, etc.

SGVDude said:

Really?,
Yes, there may have been more deserving players. I have not seen them all. Why don't you give those players some props and list there name/school and class on this blog. If they are underclassmen send an e-mail to Fred so that he can keep an eye on them next year.

Playing in Premier is not as easy as you state. If so, then any of the players that made the this years Tribune Team could waltz over to FC Stampede (Legends), FC Barcelona or Arsenal and write a check and make the team. NOT GONNA HAPPEN....
Most clubs will scholarship really good players that cannot afford to pay.

A new league has sprung up that doesn't charge, at least not for training. The Academy League, which has tons of College coaches at each showcase. There are a few players in the SGV that are part of this program and they had to forgo their High School season.

Amat,

Damien played much, much better competition than Amat in league! You obviously know a lot about soccer. Lol.

As I mentioned before...Amat was the worst team we have played in years! The only half decent team in their league was Cathedral and they were just ok.

Salesian Mustang Soccer 2007 CIF Semis (defending 2006 CIF Champions)

2007-08 Season
20-1-1 (16 Shutouts)

Santa Fe Undefeated League Champions

Southern California Regional State Div 3 Champions

Goals Scored 102
Goals Allowed 9

Fred you know alot about soccer. As your family has been well represented @ Salesian over the years.

Pretty impressive numbers when you consider they lost to Oaks Christian, yes that Oaks Christan!, 4-3 in double OT @ Oaks Christian in the CIF Semis only to get back up and win @ State.

Interesting that Alvenal beat Oaks Christian 3-0 in the Regionals and Salesian beat Alvena 3-0 in the Championship Game. Wasn't at the Oaks game but OC scored almost half of all the Goals given up by the Mustangs ALL YEAR? Smells fishy to me. But in the end it was settled on a bigger stage.

Props to the Mustangs.

is there suppose to be a game where these soccer stars will play in

Damien didnt even make it into playoffs and i dont see you crying about the first team all league from their team. Fred is right you dont know anything

SGV Dude,

I have seen him play, at least four times and not to mock the kid but the SGV has much, much better mid-fielders than him regardless of his premier status and the team he plays with. Now a days, it does not take too much talent or skill to play on a premier team as long as you can pay the club fees..Trust me, I have been involved with club level play for at least 10 years but according to Fred, I do not know what I am talking about. Obviously, he is the expert..

SGV Dude said:

Really?,
Have you seen him play? Maybe the talent around him doesn't produce. He can play a through ball to a forward and the forward shoots off target. He can slide tackle a forward only to have one of his defenders play a bad ball right back to the forward. He can't do it all but he can play Soccer his Premier status proves that.

Wow!!

vs Pasadena L 1-2
vs La Quinta L 0-6
vs Rialto L 1-3
vs Chino Hills L 2-4
vs Los Altos L 0-4
vs La Puente L 0-2
vs Rancho Cucamanga L 0-5
vs Santiago L 1-3
vs Cathedral L 0-2
vs Kaiser 0-3

I guess you are right!!! Considering mid-fielders dominate in creativity, scoring defending and assisting..you are right, I do not know what I am talking about! What was I thinking? After all, it is Amat we are talking about...

FredJ said:

If you don't think Sebastian Rivas is one of the area's best midfielders, then you don't know what you're talking about.

Fred,

I is amazing to see two players from Amat on this list. Amat was the worst team in the entire San Gabriel valley!! We beat them 5-0 and used most of our JV players in order to even out the game because our bench was scoring all the goals!! What a joke!!
