Breaking News: DiFiori, Gallagher returning to Bishop Amat
I told you some big news was coming. La Salle High School head coach Ealar Gallagher (Amat graduate) and assistant coach Mike DiFiori (former Amat head coach) have resigned at La Salle and accepted assistant coaching positions at Bishop Amat, coach Steve Hagerty said today. Gallagher, who guided the Lancers to the CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division championship game in 2006, will be Bishop Amat's offensive line coach, while DiFiori, who left Amat following the 2005 reason for family reasons, then took a lesser assistant role at La Salle, is returning to serve as the linebackers coach.

Former La Salle coach Ealar Gallagher.
Ealar Gallagher's reaction: “I talked to the Amat people a couple of weeks ago and it was a tough decision,” Gallagher said. “There’s a lot of good people and good kids at La Salle and I have a lot of friendships here. But professionally, this is the best move for me and my family.”
Mike DiFiori's reaction: “I spent a lot of time there (Amat) and Steve’s a great guy, and I think he can do a lot of good things there, and I’ll be a part of it,” DiFiori said. “One of the things is that my parents moved to Los Angeles from Northern California, so now I have family that can take care of the kids, which is why I left. When I got the job at Amat in 1992, he (Hagerty) was still there and we did coaching outings and clinics together,”
Fred's thoughts: This is how you build the program back up, by assembling a talented and respected coaching staff that players will want to play for, and I don't think Hagerty is finished. There could be a couple more surprises before this coaching carousel is through. If you're an Amat fan, this is much better than the April Fool's joke I played on you earlier. I dealt with Gallagher at the Star-News and he's a class individual and a great coach.

For a pair of area football coaches, the opportunity to get back to their roots knocked too loudly.
La Salle High School head coach Ealar Gallagher and assistant coach Mike DiFiori are both leaving the school to take assistant coaching positions at Bishop Amat.
Gallagher will take over as offensive line coach, while DiFiori will be in charge of the linebackers.
An assistant for his first seven seasons, Gallagher departs after leading La Salle to a 31-28 record in five seasons as the Lancer head coach.
He guided La Salle to an appearance in the 2006 CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley Division championship game. His team posted a 6-6 mark in 2007, losing to eventual champion Santa Clara in the quarterfinals.
“I talked to the Amat people a couple of weeks ago and it was a tough decision,” Gallagher said. “There’s a lot of good people and good kids at La Salle and I have a lot of friendships here. But professionally, this is the best move for me and my family.”
The La Salle coach had his mind made up, but wasn’t able to meet with school officials until Tuesday, the first day back following the spring break.
“We’ve been talking about it for a while, but I didn’t tell (Principal Pat Bonacci) about it until (Tuesday) morning,” said Gallagher, who played at Bishop Amat.
Gallagher and vice principal/athletic director John Matheus addressed the team later in the day.
“Ealar’s had some success here and has built up the program quite well, and we’re sorry to see him go,” Matheus said. “We’re grateful for his time here.”
Bishop Amat’s new head coach Steve Hagerty had a lot to do with Gallagher’s decision.
“I played for Coach Hagerty and I’ve always had a lot of respect for what he’s done,” Gallagher said. “When he called, it seemed like a great opportunity.
“I’m an alumnus from Bishop Amat, and there’s a lot of people there that I have a lot of respect for.”
At the same time, Gallagher leaves La Salle with a heavy heart.
“There are a lot of good people here and things are going to be in good hands,” Gallagher said. “They’re going to do very well whether I’m here or not.”
In Gallagher, Hagerty is elated to get a quality young coach.
“Any time a head coach can get another head coach on his staff, it’s a blessing,” Hagerty said. “Ealar’s done a nice job at La Salle, but he loves Bishop Amat High School.”
DiFiori leaves La Salle after two seasons as an assistant coach.
He returns to the school where he served as head coach from 1999 to 2005, compiling a 41-36 record.
“I spent a lot of time there and Steve’s a great guy, and I think he can do a lot of good things there, and I’ll be a part of it,” DiFiori said.
One of the things that made DiFiori’s decision easier was having his family around to help out with his children.
“One of the things is that my parents moved to Los Angeles from Northern California, so now I have family that can take care of the kids, which is why I left,” DiFiori said.
Amat’s former head coach also has strong ties to Hagerty which led to his decision.
“When I got the job at Amat in 1992, he was still there and we did coaching outings and clinics together,” DiFiori said.
Added Hagerty: “Mike and I crossed paths. We’ve never really coached together, but we’ve done a lot of football stuff together.”
Besides coaching credentials, Gallagher and DiFiori bring an extra intangible to Amat.
“I think Mike and Ealar are good men, and that comes before being good coaches,” Hagerty said.
Matheus is now in search of a good head coach and assistant at La Salle; a search he expects to be a quick, but thorough process.
“We’re going to open up the selection process and we’ll have a selecting committee to review and start the interview process as soon as possible,” Matheus said. “There are various teaching openings, so maybe that person can be an on-campus coach as well.
“We’re looking for somebody who is program-oriented.”

sgv you are nuts. amat is going 3-7. you must be another myopic amat fan
my bad, i meant Crespi is the deciding factor for playoffs
Just cuz:
9/5 @ Los Osos-WIN (close)
9/12 @ OLu-LOSS
9/19 H West Covina-WIN
9/26 H Damien-WIN (very close)
10/3 bye
10/10 H Diamond Ranch-WIN (close)
10/17 @ St. Francis*-WIN (streak shows up)
10/24 H Chaminade*-WIN
11/01 @ Loyola-WIN (the deciding factor of playoffs)
11/07 H Crespi*-WIN (payback)
11/14 @ Notre Dame*-LOSS
My Pal,
Regardless of who I picked it was my opinion and who's to say it is wrong only because they have a different opinion. Same could be said for Deacon Jones versus Reggie White . I go with Deacon and many go with White . Different opinion no one is right or wrong. Both were outstanding players.
My Pal
not refering to you on the goody two shoes comment . There are plenty of others out there that fit that bill . As you said this is no place for high morals.
There was talk of Gardena Serra moving into the Mission League leaving the Del Rey League with only 5 teams (but still 3 playoff spots). Serra and Loyola would give the Mission League 4 (but still only 2 playoff spots) and if St Francis and Chaminade move up to the Serra League that would give us 5 teams (3 playoff spots). Those moves give the Parochial Area an additional guaranteed playoff spot, so it would be for the greater good - but I can't see Serra competing with Loyola.
I'll update when I get a for sure answer. Either way - good balanced schedule
I'm only printing what's on the schedule. The *s are on the correct teams unless there is a misprint or something. Loyola didn't have one.
Joe, perhaps a call or email to JA would get you a faster answer.
Thats why it didn't seem right to me, because if that were to happen, the numbers, wouldn't add up.
To tell you the truth, what I would like to see happen (and what wouldn't happen of course) is a Serra league with St Bonnie and Oaks Christian included along with Crespi, ND and Amat.
That could work, with the exception of the distance in travel and because OC is not a Catholic school.
I know for example, that a lot of people in St Bonnies league would be very happy to see them go somewhere else, because "they haven't lost a league game in over two years." So the idea would intriguing.
Are you sure that Chaminade AND St Francis are both coming, with only Loyola leaving? That leaves the Mission League with only 3 - unless someone else is moving in there.
Could we be playing TWO cross league games against Loyola AND one of the other two?
jcaz,
I don't know the reason as to who moved where and why, sorry. I just got my hands on a schedule. Loyola must have dropped because of the last two years like Joe said so it looks like this is the league for the next two at least.
Actually, in looking over the schedual for next year I can see that they could very well be 8-1 by the time they get to the Crespi game.
The reason I say that is because last year, Amat had Los Osos on the ropes at half time. We should not have lost that game. But give that team the credit they deserve for comming back and winning at the end of the game.
Still, I can see the Los Osos game as a solid win for the team this year given the revenge factor.
As for the rest of the schedual leading up to Crespi, even when Verti was coaching the last couple of years, this team was still able to beat St Francis, Charmande and Loyola.
The other teams won't be a cake walk but when you consider how good this team should be this year, then it would be hard to bet against them.
BTW, the Crespi game is the only toss up here. The last time they came and played at Amat, Crespi struggled and it seemed for a while that Amat was going to pull it out. Of course that didn't happen but you never know this time arround.
I would agree with most people here and say that perhaps the Orange Lutheran game and Notre Dame game will be losses, but depending on momentum and how the team gells under the new coach, that the end result could very well be an undefeated season !
Whoa !! did I just say that ???????? Yup, it could happen. Stay tuned
jcaz,
Every league is eligible to have at-large spots, if available. The at-large spot just goes to the next best team that does not receive an automatic berth by finishing in the top half of their league.
The good news is that Amat's league will now have FIVE teams - meaning that there are THREE automatic berths - rather than the 2 available spots in a 4 team league.
It looks like they must have moved Loyola down to the Mission League based on their back-to-back winless league seasons.
Blue and gold,
If the league has been realinged, then what happens to the mission league.
I heard that Notre Dame wanted out of the Pac5 so that they could go down a division, but if this is the case as you say, then the serra league, with four teams, will be eligible for an at large birth in any playoff senario next year.

Joey,
Any news on the situation with the boys basketball program? You don't build a McGym and allow that kind of record. Hard to know why that happened but the football hires tells me BA ain't done wish their X-Mas shopping.
Why not let Wiard coach both? Mike Anderson at Magnolia did it this year coaching BOTH the boys and girls teams. I believe the Girls basketball team went Regionals didn't they? And won it all right?
Good coaching matters but Great coaching gets it done.
Best of luck with the school and maybe next time we'll share a couple of JA stories.
USC-Arizona is going to be a blast!
Damien and Bishop Amat will be represented.
Finally Amat 73...no one is a goody 2 shoes. You know me too well to believe that. Like you said we all grow up..some more painfully than others.
Here's a blogger question for others to contemplate and end this tired discussion...Let's talk sports.
Who's a better or more significant Linebacker?
Jack Lambert or Lawrence Taylor?
Amat 73... I still remember your answer...it was wrong then and still wrong to this day....any blogger want to pick and tell why.
I know this is a NO BRAINER but we'll see. Maybe I was wrong.
I think that it would have been part of the deal if JA had been chosen. Obviously, he would have been great as an AD too. But he has his work to do where he's at - and he's getting it done! I get the feeling that something is in the works for us to solve our AD weakness too. the key is if MSGr stays outta the way.
Amat fans mark my words - more big surprises are in the works
DP is having a monster year at the plate. I hope we can keep him inside the park. I was surprised to find that he didn't pitch. The Lancers are notorious for splits in a DH, so we'll see if it turns out different. Can't be there so I'll get updates.
Big day on campus at Amat too - Freshman Registration Day. Almost a holiday in old Lancerland - let's see if it's back! By afternoon we'll have a good idea if we have some good looking athletes coming in the first round if entrants.
No reason not too !
make me laugh,
Wow all that came from my post about Rix.This blog is what it is a sounding board for those who wish to post, nothing more. If a person puts himself out there as some goody 2 shoes who has never uttered anything bad about someone, and has, then expect to be pulverized on this blog. As far as the moral batton I will leave that for other self righteous people. As far as your reference to the knee pads yes I did post something on that but if you read who it was geared toward you could see why it was done. Sorry if I offended any youngsters who read this blog but you know as well as I do there are far worst things going on in schools and other blogs geared to the younger crowd then what is written on here. As far as you waiting for apologies from posters who made those comments on your list, don't hold your breath. They most likely are some big time AMAT haters and get off bashing us anyway they can. It is what makes their life fulfilling. Winning yes but at any cost never. I believe you are mistaken on that.
Thanks Joey.
Yes i did read it and Don's as well. Just tried to move on is all. Very classy move on your guys part. "to those that much is given much is expected"...those were trying times for my family but I did appreciate every word. And still do. You got room for JA at BA for AD? It's not Pig :Latin but I'm sure you understand my question.
See you at the game. Any comments on Danny P. ? Seems to be a hella BB player...maybe he goes yard? lol
FC incase you didn't read this:
I thought you were never coming back to blog here? what happened?
FC,

and after looking at the picture at the top of this thread, are you sure it isn't Dan Fouts that is coming to coach at Amat!:?)
I was speaking of course of "make me laugh."
A sad little man...
I was speaking of course of "make me laugh"
That my friends was a classic "Drive by."
He took a shot then ran for cover. What a loser.
and BTW TRUE AMAT
you're Oh-fer-four
Rix was not on the Amat sideline because he was not welcome by the previous staff-period. This was due to the immature grudge still being held by an immature staff regarding circumstances that occurred surrounding his departure from Amat in HIGH SCHOOL - over 10 years ago). Oft times those who have had struggles and made mistakes are more qualified to help others through similar problems in the future. We've certainly had some Presidents, from both parties, that have had some, should we say, "past discretions. I'm sure a high school football coach can be forgiven for his past. What do they say about "glass houses"?
Rix offered, on a number of occasions, to join the previous not-so-dynamite staff for free - and his offer was rejected. After all, why would a 4yr starter for FSU who played for one of the legendary coaches in college football after being tutored by the preeminent QB coach in HS (Clarkson) have anything more to offer a HS QB than last years Amat QB coach (who'll remain nameless to protect the guilty)???
*please - note the sarcasm!
I wouldn't expect Rix to be an "official" coach this year either (due to time commitments) but I do think that his offer will be accepted and he will be more accepted and welcome to work with QBs on a semi-regular basis.
So what if kids read this, you know they hear worst at home.
Are you kidding me? As a parent of two kids i am appalled at what people like you put on this blog. I advise all kids I know of to stay away from this blog. It's very sad to see cuss words and some of the things other adults put here.
Well put Amat 73. No need to defend or bash Rix when we can talk about sucking cook (sic) and cum slurping in the name of fun. So what if kids read this, you know they hear worst at home. Those knee pads sure cum in handy when you're sitting at your computer and thinking about the difference between a Catholic education and a remedial public one. Often alluded to by some at Amat. mighty are the men that wear blue and gold (no caps necessary) and all the comments about Verti's mom were just plain old entertainment. Why do people take things so seriously here? WE JUST WANT A WINNER! It's all in fun. Mrs. Vert knows it was only a joke that she slept with the AD, Mr, Verti Sr.knows he's welcomed on campus after the comments he bought his son's job and his wife sleeps around...that a beely buster don't you think? . Let's all move on and keep our eyes on the prize... WIINING AT ALL COSTS! So I can hang my life on my high school's winning tradition instead of what really matters in life. Is that moral superiority when you make a public mea culpa...I'm still waiting for others who said worst and giggled like girls at their computers to do the same. Here's the wait list of apologies.
Mrs. Mc Donough...Pelican Bay (Cute)
Coach Regan (What is it drunk or abusive?)
Henley (Incompetent, mean, stupid,coward)
McD (crimianal, lowlife, ect.)
Coach Q (abusive, vindictive, ect)
Coach P (Incompetent, egomaniac)
and so forth and so on...
The Verti Family....(where to start)
ect ect ect
Vasquez (drunk, drunk...play my kid or else I'll tell about your personal life wah wah wah) Hey are we all laughing now....I am....I am missing the point don;t you think?
Canale (lazy, incompetence, sleepwalker, company shill)
Should I go on?
So please enough with the moral high ground baton. Put it away it has no use in this blogger nirvana.
Here's a telling slice of what passes for sports today...
The idiot T.J. Simers is on page 2 daily and the always informative and morally uplifting Sondenheim (sic) is on the second to last page from time to time. So much for our priorities. Welcome to the Jim Rome world...another twerp who inspires numb brained worshppers and bags for gags....Remember 'Chrissie Everett" ...that beat down MADE him ! Maybe others are trying the same tact here. At least he said it to his face.
Good game this weekend. Damien vs Bishop Amat. Double header. Play ball! front row!
Rix ia bandwagon Coach period. Last year going over to So. Hills because he brokered the deal to get Wells into So Hills after Amat dismissed Wells. Altho he works with Lenhart he was not on Amats Sidelines like he was So. Hills. Rix is not a true Lancer he jumps to the team that has the best chance at winning ala Amat coming up this year. He knows Hags is getting a dynamite staff together and he wants part of what is going to be a very good year for the Lancers. We do not need or want Rix. I hear some old lady has a distance to walk to get to the Market front door, you parked in her Handicap space for some quick Hair Spray purchase.
What is with all this sh_t about Rix. If Coach Hags decides to use him as a qb coach then so be it. No need to stand up for Rix or put him down for a bad decision he made in high school. Is he a good coach or not that is what needs to be addressed. I am sure most people have different stories as to what happen to cause him to leave AMAT but he is the one who has to live with that no one else. I am sure we have all made some boneheaded mistakes in our time and with maturity some of us have learned and some have not. Let's hope Rix has learned and will use the skills he has to teach future qb's and if not let Coach take care of it which I am sure he will.
It would appear that a lot of folks have alot of issues here.
Perhaps some of these points and comments have justification, but there is no need to carry this on forever. To continually bash each other over and over for the same thing gets tiring after a while.
Lets talk sports here ! (perferably Amat sports right ??...he he he).
Intersetingly, the one thing that I have mentioned before holds true once again I suppose, and that is the concept of the "Drive By Post." It is difficult to respond to someone when they are afraid to tell you who they are. I mean, how can you resonably respond to a comment like that ?
Anyways, and for what it's worth, we all know that it's the same people eventhough we don't know the "drive by's" name. Lets move on and have some fun with prep sports !
The people who make those terrible comments you mentioned NEVER claim moral superiority. You frequently DO.
Your personal life would never come into play on this blog if you didn't brag about it every chance you get. The last poster was right, this blog has never been about you, so stop using it as a forum to promote yourself.
the word at amat is that snoops son corde will be attending there next year..
I could have done a lot of things...like ask your approval...I didn't and won't.
You read people slam coaches, their families, talk about drunk coaches, kids with drugs on buses, coaches drinking on buses, a coach's mother sleeping with the AD for job security for her son, blatant lies, slanderous comments, college nicknames for coaches, steroid use and abuse, gyms that provide roids to minors, private trainners that funnel kids to schools, illegal this and illegal that, tales out of school, comments so out of bounds they have to be deleted, full on conversations about oral copulation, sperm drinks, sloppy seconds, molestations, knee pads, racial insults, threatening kids with violence, starting rumors without a basis in fact, using other people's names for fun and gun comments, and alot worst but somehow I move you to comment.
Where is "your" integrity when you read those comments from other bloggers. Somehow I've missed your righteous indignation with others. But that's okay. I understand you more now than before.
The truth is you are a coward, any one who does nothing but pick fights and calls it entertainment...."hey it wasn't me?" deserves what you got coming. You like to rattle my chain and are pretty good at it but this time I'll forgive you and concentrate on enjoying things in my life that you will never accomplish or attain. No matter how much it irritates you.
Pathetic as you are the fact remains you are a coward, Plain and simple. Your name at the bottom would prove me a liar. But you won't and no amount of money is worth spending on you. Not a fart's worth of gas. I found better things to do with my time and energy.
So do what you do best and come back for more, demand integrity and show absolutely none.
Ask yourself is it worth starting this over again? I got a couple of pennies left if you wish to continue our dance.
I'll post my email if you'd like to take this private were it belongs. Send me all the vile comments you like to your pathetic heart's content. Feel like a man. God bless you. My hatred for you almost consumed me last time but this time I'll ask you kindly...leave me alone and LET IT GO.
I thought you were never coming back to blog here? what happened? I can't tell what's worse reading your mindless rants or reading all the amat garbage. I think it's a tosss up.
You could have made your point without giving yourself a big pat on the back. Take your own advice and display some integrity. It's not always all about you.
Point was people can change...apparently you can't. But then I'm not surprised.
Are you so callous as to not see it for what it is....as far as tooting my own horn I thought I was tooting Morrison's but then again you've never been based on anything but cowardice. I still read your stupid comments and drive by BS. And you're right "it shouldn't be taken seriously"...then why do you?'
Go back to kicking rocks and move on. The last time we talked you didn't have much to say. You cried like a coward then and ultimately proved your worth...it wasn't much.
That's what's pathetic. Those that got the point great those that think otherwise great as well. Not into the back and forth.
I remember when kids like you used to keep ushered out of church by their ears. I see it's done you no good.
Have a nice life.
If integrity happens when no one is watching, then why do you insist on "tooting your own horn" on the internet? Do you really need the validation from an online community that badly? Pathetic.
We all learn lessons in life. Some more painful than others and some more public than others...in the end it speaks volumes what you do for others when no one is watching. I heard it said that "Integrity happens when no one is watching." I believe that and teach that to my children. Make a difference in someone else's life and the whole world opens up.
Making a difference is someone's life is a great start in the healing process. I know this from personal experience. Kenny Gibson's Family spoke glowingly about the Morrisons and the Damien Family which he is a part of. Kenny still lights up talking about football and situations on the field. He is without a doubt a magical individual. Sports is always about opinions both reasoned and unreasoned... life is about REALITY.
I have been as hard on Coach Morrison as anyone, in some people's mind, more than everyone combined. But the truth is not always as it seems.
Recently Coach Morrison along with all the Damien Varsity players sent "Thank You" cards signed by the whole team to my house. It was a class act, given our perceived history, and a point I have always made. Coach Morrison is a great Dad. I've said that often. I said it after the Chino Hills Game while everyone was celebrating the last second win he was walking around holding his daughter's hand and "sharing" the moment with her. That image still humbles me.
Maybe Rix is everything everyone makes him out to be but then again maybe he's grown up. Walking away is easy....making things right takes courage...and in some case...takes time.
Ask yourself this question. Will someone benefit from his generosity? ALL players want to get better, need help and want to trust...why deny a player that opportunity? Deen did,..and look at the improvement. No one knows what is in Rix' heart but Chris. We all can learn to forgive...even the meanest of machines.
I wonder what the world holds for Kenny and the truth is no one knows for sure. But I know Damien will never abandon him and neither will I. Those Thank You cards, with player and coach's signatures are next to my most prized possession. A keepsake for all time. My uncle's Marine Cap he gave me in 1968 before he went to Vietnam and did 2 tours. He came back...and I believe with enough will and determinations others can as well.
Best of luck Chris.
hahaha this is not Joe amat. and yes i do know all about bishop amat.
Rix also has NCAA records. Like losing to one team five times in his career.
Joe Amat thinks he knows all because his kid went to school there. He has never coached at Amat but he loves to criticize players and coaches. He never was a teacher there so he doesn't know the everyday life. He never was a player so he doesn't understand the brotherhood between the players. But he will back Chris Rix in a second and pucker.

a know it all who can't spell? ha ha Gotta love that amat education
Being prepared and winning games are two different games. 3-7 and amat still suckssssssssss
i cant this anymore. people think they know what happened to Chris. people come on here talking about what he did or didnt to. maybe you should find out why he left amat. maybe a move to cotsa mesa would make it hard to get amat everyday like he was trying to do for a few weeks. maybey ou should find out why he was on the south hills sidline, maybe cause he personally worked with the QB there. He has worked with a few QBs around the area. Now if this guy was a no loser like you claim he was wouldnt FSU get another QB to take his place during his 4 yrs there? would they go after him as a JR in high school if he wasnt any good. you may not like the guy then so be it but why do u need to put down someone has a college degree. someone that started 4 yrs at a top D1 progam. someone who has ACC records. but if it makes you sleep well at night then so be it. and for everyone that says amat will be 3-7 i say just wait and see. Hags and his staff will have his kids more prepared then anyone in the area for each and every game. and true amat fans know MIGHTY ARE THE MEN THAT WEAR THE BLUE AND GOLD. so true amat supporters need to stop all this childish talk and prove whos the bigger man. Good luck amat this year its going to be a good one. if i have spelling or grammer mistakes i dont really care. oh and if you think you know all about amat and want to talk Trust me I KNOW ALL!!!!!
Last time I looked I saw Rix on the sideline coaching So. Hills. Then see him hanging around Amat, granted his wife works for Amat. He is not what he is cracked up to be. He is trying to create his own Air7 and copy Clarkson, not going to happen, Clarkson is a real QB coach. Rix with his charm and his fancy hair style and sales pitch BS is all smoke and Mirrors, Amat does not need him, they are fine without him., why is he not down the 5 over at Santa Margarita helping out there? They are not sold on his stock. OR LACK there of. Here is a guy who parked in a handicap parking space in college just to get to class and thought nothing of it. Shi- dont stink type of guy. Amat is smart not to have him back, he is not part of the family , he bailed on Amat and now Amat should bail on him.
The great thing is that those are the problems that are now gone. Move on - the school has
gotta love problems in the amat coaching staff. Let the losing continue at amat. Here comes another 3-7 season barrio fans!!
Former classmate and teammate ,
As I said. "... There will be no more childish grudges that exist between him and staff members...". I see you still carry one of those. You were obviously one of MV's teammates-so I'm impressed with your loyalty. That's OK , we all had those as kids. It's just that most of us moved on to something better. I was mad at this kid that took my crayons in the 3rd grade - and by 6th grade we were best friends. Let it go. Mature staff members have moved on - you should too. Funny that you should mention Burns in the same post about loyalty. Didn't he bail and leave Amat pretty late at one point too? How is that different? And since you are so "close" to the situation, being a former teammate and all, you would also know that Chris Rix, Jr's biggest problem may have been Chris Rix, SR. Rix didn't personally bail on his teammates after 3 years as much as certain academic circumstances and Rix. SR made it necessary to do that. Once again, most at Amat have taken the high road on that matter, unlike teammates that still hold childish grudges.
Here's to hoping that you aren't judged for life based on circumstances when you were 17.
5150,
We can see by your post how great of a free education you received. Why don't you pick some new school to hate because with us you are just out of your league. Your posts are getting more ignorant as you go along. You did get one thing right . The raiders do suck.
Speaking of Rix, look for him to do some more work with Amat QB's and for him to be a little more "accepted" among the Lancer staff. There will be no more childish grudges that exist between him and staff members that prevented Amat from benefitting from his help the past couple of years.
I do not want my cousins being coached by Chris Rix. I don't buy his act for one minute. Joe Amat and every other Amat parent might have been suckered by his charm but the people that were with him for three years know what he is about.
"Benefitting from his help"
What help is that. Play three years at one school cheating and backstabbing. Then transfer.
Joe Amat,
Ask Coach D what he thinks about him. Ask coach Burns or any other coach on that old staff. Better yet, Ask Mike Wagner. Ask the state of Florida. Read his teammates clippings from college. It's nine years of a sad saga.
5150,
Do you mean that Loyola team that Amat has beaten the past two seasons? Is that the one that "must be calling Amat a joke?"
The same Loyola school that Amat has beaten 20+ times against only 8 losses? Is it that Loyola that "must be calling Amat a joke?"
I guess the jokes on them!
Let's not start the whole Wells "leaving" mess again. Move on! But his "actions" forced him to leave not the other was around. It's called consequences.
Second chances are nice when you own up to your actions, take control of your life and succeed in spite of your previous actions. He did so props to the Wells Family.
Villanova is a good school. He's very fortunate in fact that Bishop Amat worded his leaving in such a way as to not interfere with his enior season. I've seen school make life hard for transfers so the best to both parties involved.
Time to move on.
5150-what playerS left and got a DI ride?
Wells is the only one that got a schollie and we know he didn't CHOOSE to leave but was forced to. He was on the DI radar because of his junior year at AMAT and the word on the street is that he would have done better than Villanova had he stayed.
Truth!
Fred, when do we get the news about the kids that couldent make it at Amat and transfer to another SGV school and shine and get a D1 free ride as they say. Free school free football away from this colt that Amat has... And I cant wait to hear all the excuses for the kids leaving... I bet OL, sherman oak, Loyla are all saying this school is a JOKE... at ONE time is was a GREAT school but so were the RAIDERS.. they suck...... but have a great past....
Actually, all that banter was kinda funny. I have to admit though that "drive by" (insert/pick a name for him here) got us good there.
Yup, he threw in some pretty good "licks" there(pardon the pun, I couldn't help myself).
Anyway, im sure it's not all over just yet....
Having said that, and as Amat 73 said, "it's all in fun." Don't take all this stuff to seriously ok.
Anyhow, I have to admit that when im wrong, im wrong, and at this point I can see that perhaps I was on the wrong side of the fence with the new football coach.
He seem's to be really coming out with guns a-Blazing here, and it looks real good at this point for Amat football.
BTW, I was at the La Salle baseball game, and the varsity team is really awsome !
They put up 4 quick runs in the first inning and realy made La Salle look weak. The reason I say that was because one of those run's in the first inning came off a stollen base. Not second base mind you, (which is the one usualy stollen) but of Home plate !
To make matter's worse for La Salle, they tryed it again in the same inning, but that time, they caught the Amat runner half way to home plate.
No matter what most folks have said in the past about Amat's baseball coach, I can see that his team was on their game that day, because he realy out-coached his opponent.
Rettig comes from a long line of LaSalle graduates and it would take much for him to transfer. I don't see that happening, and not sure that I'd expect him to follow to Amat- the new CIF rule says that transfers have to prove that the transfer is not athletic related transfer if their is a pre-existing relationship with any coaches or players at the new school. Transfers like this have been approved, but it's a stretch. More likely would be a move to St Francis, if anywhere, although Sierra Madre (I think the family lives there) is not THAT far from Amat. Maybe he can carpool with DiFiori...it's a joke, fellas!
As for Rettig's development, he has a chance to be really good and has done some work under Steve Clarkson, of Air7 (Chris Rix's old private coach.) He'll be just fine nat LaSalle-even if he doesn't transfer...but I guess anything is possible.

How come no one is mentioning Chase Rettig? how much you want to bet the Lasalle qb is transferring to amat or to another school and thats why Di Fiore and Gallagher left.

Wow, a lot of new things happening at Amat, looks like you guy's are making
some solid changes over there. Joe Amat, BBG, Jcaz,
Amat73, etc. your Amat future is starting to look
brighter, I wish the Lancers good luck next season except for when you play West Co.
It will be exciting to see our Bulldogs get another chance to play
against Pac 5 talent vs Amat, I got a feeling both teams will bring it to make for a great SGV match up. Was the Gilmore thing really an april fools joke?
West Co. will also have a few other interesting new SGV matchups next season with games vs Glendora, Los Altos, and Diamond Bar. Looks to be a fun year.
thats fine bisop amat people im actually happy for you!
its been a while since you have had somethin to get excited about
i just want to see if you guys have the same enthusiuam about all this stuff were talking about in mid november when your 3-7
grow up,
Easy there boy. It it is all in fun. No harm in jousting. Don't take everything you see on here to heart. And it is ok to write ass believe me I won't be offended.
amat 73 GROW UP AND ACT LIKE AN ADULT FOR ONCE COME ON MAN
Well at least you finally got your first name right. Maybe you should have gone after a better education. POSTED BY :sucksssss . Like I said you got your first name right this time. Does your last name start with a D or C. Let's see how long it takes you to figure that one out.
salary tracker,
I'm sure that coaching stipends are a bit higher at Amat than La Salle, but the teaching salary is on the Archdiocesan pay scale - so I wouldn't think that it is much different. I'm guessing that Ealar's stipend as a Head Coach at LaSalle would be substantially higher than as a position coach at Amat - but the benefits are elsewhere. An opportunity to coach at the highest level possible and against some of the finest high school athletes is certainly a lure. Plus, believe it or not, if he wants to move to a higher level - this is probably a move that he needed to make. At LaSalle he'd be a successful guy that was a Head Coach at a small school, but add to that some Pac-5 experience and now he becomes a much more viable candidate for a good job down the line, if he so desires.
DiFiori's least concern is his salary/stipend. Dr.DiFiori(Mrs) does just fine and Mikes "quality of life" is far more important than the cash.
Amat 73 / BB&G ,
Is it Mahoney or Me-so-ho-ney!. You two are losers and cum guzzlers. you two swallow the sword that the Lancer carries too.?
amat 73 and bleeds brown and yellow.
You two are very sad people. sitting online all day talking to us teenagers. my parents warned me about people like you two. This is a good reason why people should never send their kids to amat so they don't wind up like you two.
Maggot,
You sound like a former altar boy whose an expert at slurping like the bottom feeder you are. Good bye.
Amat 73 and BB&G you know all about knee pads. With all those priest over at Amat former and present you have sluurped your way for playing time and now are sluurping your way for your kids playing time. Home depot knee pads not necessary you use the baseball catchers shin guards you are on them so much. I hear you are still trying to get rid of the backdrops of Mahoney.
"Goal Line Blitz"
If you're jonesing for some football try this new game.
Been going around Rivals.com and is fun. Leveling up players and games and all the works.
Free to play.

OK, it's time to ignore this poor little maggot. He is just some HS drop out who sits at home all day long getting off on pron (intentionally misspelled) while his parents get high all day, wait for the mailman to deliver their welfare check and sometimes watches his 17YO sisters kid when she goes out on a date with her next trick.
I'd rather be working standing on my feet than on my knees all day. I saw an add for Home Depot that knee pads are on sale. Maybe a pair of those will add years to your ability to perform your duties. Are you sure you don't want a Coke to wash down the residue of the leftovers you can't swallow when your on the job.
beats your job at burger king. now be a good old man and go get me some fries with my burger
suckssssss,
Is that the only word you have in your vocabulary. Or is it just wishful thinking on your part as to what would like to be doing as a job.
all these new coaches and the same results will happen this year as last year 3-7 amat sucksssssssssssssssss
Salary Tracker...I think Gallagher and Di Fiori asked for their salaries in "Euros" but in th end they got theirs in good old American Greenbacks like everyone else.
Hope that answers your question.
Joey see you April 6 I believe for the double header. Word has it you might be getting a couple of transfers in soon. As far as the football game I always liked seeing two private schools go at it. The matchup I'm looking forward to is Price vs Herrera. Speed on speed. Taylor ran 10.96 for 100 meters and he's still getting faster. Especially if/when he does TRACK full time. If they ever taught a skinny post here he'd really light it up. Next year's QB has a cannon and is a cold blooded gunsinger so we'll see. Maybe he's the next Baca ..we'll see. Herrera destroyed the Div1 corner prospect from SJB for 6 straight catches before half! He's raw in terms of route running technique but the boy can fly. Think Willie Gault becoming Issac Bruce if he ever learns to catch a over the shoulder streak! lol Funny how he hasn't mastered that catch but then again I could never throw a slant without bouncing it off the ground 3 out of 5 times...go figure. Who's the WR coach at Amat by the way?
Finally Joey what's gojng on with the lower level coaches? Any major changes? And what are they doing with Spooner? Great guy, extremely loyal and well liked.
Good News Amat!!
Coach D is a fantastic guy... Glad he is back!!
Icing on the cake would be for one of those gentleman to become the NEW AD!!!!
Tell us Manzo is history!!
That would be the "fresh" start that Coach Hags needs to succeed!!
83'
Not for noting but it really makes Aram's slighted words about DiFiori seem pretty childish and petty in hindsight. Seems DiFior's "family matters" were in fact very valid. His parents moving back to Southern California being paramount to his decision to both leave and come back to Bishop Amat. Sometimes it's easier to make comments about "family matters" when one, you don't have children and two, you don't have a wife. Last time I checked Aram had neither. Best of luck Aram wherever you are. You really missed the boat on this on.
how much does amat pay its coaches? anybody know?
what about la salle?
M&M-Great words, and glad our game is back on. It should be a tradition. And some form of that league would be great-but the two SGV schools are a must!
I talked to our boy (the "other" candidate) and he had all the right things to say. He would have been great too - and we might have seen much of the same. But it is a new era at Amat and we'll move forward knowing we have the infrastructure in place (coaches, facilities and *the ability* to attract players) to build a quality program.
BB&G-you said that very well and echo sentiments from everyone closely involved.
One of the things that enabled this to happen is that Ealar and Mike are both great "teachers" not only on the football field - but in the classroom as well. DiFiori is a great Bio teacher (he was Science Dept Chairman before he left the second time) and Gallagher is the Social Studies Dept Chair at LaSalle. So they will both fit into the academiuc environment - which makes it attractive enough to leave.
Remember it still takes 4 things to win " talent, talent, talent and Farrar
"all the way" means prominence. Bishop Amat did themselves right by corralling that kind of talent at the coaching level. BREAKING NEWS probably was never coached by anyone of stature. That's what I get out of anyone who would make that kind of comment. NO offense but what would this staff have done with BA the last couple of years and would all those transfers have left? Highly doubtful but I do think players would have transfered in.
Ben Howland at UCLA came from Northern Arizona before he was a hotshot at Pitt. Same goes go Steve Lavin who in spite of his Elite 8 record at UCLA is considered by most a terrible coach but a great recruiter. Tons of talent and no rings.
Where are his former staff members? Where is he now? Commentating like Barry Melrose another hack of a coach in spite of his singular Stanley Cup appearance.
Bishop Amat will do just fine. And as always coaching matters more than the athletes. Look at USC and the Linebackers they put out every year....Ken Norton Jr. 'nuff said.
Naturally the news keeps getting better every day.
Great coaching, like every other leadership role in life, be it a parent, teacher, even a boss will bring out the best in every individual if properly nurtured.
I would rather have a great coach teaching "average" kids because he will take the kids to the next level and bring out the best in them, whereas an average coach, no matter how much talent he has on the field will keep the kids playing at an average level.
I am looking forward to a better season this coming year and will never say "we are going all the way" since even I know our limitations, however an improvement is always a step in the right direction. Eventually the talent will, over time, make it's way to the door.
As the old saying goes, "If you build it, they will come".
common not comman, sorry guys
Your forgettng something breaking news. Each of those coaches had success at some point due to their ability to recruit the right athlete for their systems. Yes it's true, they all struggles at different stages of their careers but the one thing they all have in comman is the ability to bring in the right people to make their coaching system the right one for the organization.
you still have to have the talent though i dont care how good of a coach you are
what did pete carrol do in the nfl?
whats pat riley doing with the heat?
bill bellichick with the browns?
all great coaches but without the talent there a bust!
Joey read the news and I must say I wish you guys all the best. I think that's what is lost on so many bloggers and parents today. When you've played for the best, been coached by the best and competed against the best it's hard to settle for Dads and Grads with no real sense of what's going on coaching our kids. And by "our" I mean the players who when injured are "ours" for life. And that should never be forgotten.
Same goes for the players from your "list". They become a part of your Tradition and indeed a source of "Family" Pride. I still smile everytime I see my Alma Mater do well. And they still do! They are a part of me for better or worse and in good times and bad. It's a bond that hopefully all players feel. I saw it at the Madrigal funeral. I wonder how many people will go thru life and never feel that connection. I count myself very fortunate in that regard.
Sometimes what people think is nitpicking, backstabbing, knowitall, living in the past BS is real holding out for accountability. There is a standard for excellence and that begins at the beginnng and ends at the end...all day everyday, all night every night. WINNING IS COMMITMENT...and it starts at the top. it speaks volumes for Amat that so many HCs have signed on to resurrect a Sleeping Giant (if the SGV really does have great athletes they now have a place to go). It may take a while to win it all but the athletes will come overnight. So congratulations to you Joey...for being the pain in the butt, the spur in their shoe, the voice that would not be silenced.
Pencil in "our" game. It's going to be a test for both programs and an eye opening experience for the loser. I hope both teams step up and the game is decided by the will of the players and the grit of the coaching staffs. I still would love to see an All Private School League.
Bishop Amat, Damien, St. Francis, La Salle, Crespi, Notre Dame, Loyola.
Joey:
You better hope coaching matters.. because your record sure needs serious help
OUCH!!!...I'm hurt!!!
you're right...but very excited about providing Amat football players with the best staff possible.
See...coaching matters.
Someone a couple days ago said it's about the players. I think that a 14 r old in the SGV is the same as a 14 yr old in the OC. What you do with them during those 4 years makes them a player... or not.
Anyone who doesn't think so needs to ask themselves how they think that Charter Oak, South Hills or Los Altos would be if you replaced Farrar, Bogan, or Gano with staffs from Ganesha, Workman, or Nogales? No disrespect intended. OR ask Arroyo what life is like after DJ MacKinnon. And how far has Claremont fallen since Bob Baiz departure.
Coaching matters!
Joe,
It sounds like you guys are doing things the right way. I wish you guys the best. Haggerty must be a good guy if Ealar and Mike want to work for him.
dont pull a muscle patting yourself on the back joe
welcome to losing culture new coaches. Let the 3-7 season begin!!
Finally!
I've been biting my lip raw for over a month. Promised early that the staff would be experienced with former head coaches and a mix of youth-with some BIG surprises. I bet that no one saw Ealar coming. When you've got head coaches leaving their jobs or passing up jobs to become an assistant that says something about th eschool and the head coach. Mulvehill, DiFiori, Gallagher all position coaches with legitimate HC experience. That commands respect (and performance) from players, and they are all good guys that kids will respect. It was a long time ago, but if I'm not mistaken even Canales was a HC at Cantwell back in the day.
GREAT NEWS!
"...Fortunately, private schools are not hurt (and may be helped) by these budget cuts and seem to find teaching spots for coaches and their assistants **hint*hint*wink*wink**!!"

Some excitement in the air at Amat with Coach Hagerty's first week on campus. The weights are flying and some interesting prospective assistant coaches have surfaced. Some surprising names to some that have been around the valley.
Posted by: Joe Amat | March 5, 2008 4:40 PM
Some of the old school assistants that have been mentioned were in attendance, so the rumors of Mulvihill return and others is a done deal. It will be a good mix of veterans and young blood. But the renewed attitude and commitment to a great work ethic and physical/mental toughness is what will bring the Lancers back.

AMAT WILL STILL LOSE...
DONT CARE WHO THEY GET FROM A COACH OR PLAYER...
LEAGUE THAT THERE IS OVER THERE HEAD!!
Nope, this is the real deal. Promise
You know, its still April 1st right ? So with that in mind are you sure your not pulling our legs here once again, eh Joe ?
