I've got mail: Random Thoughts Part II

| | Comments (31) |

This email came from an area football junkie who loves to discuss what's happening in the SGV. I'll post your thoughts or questions if you have something for me.

Above: South Hills coach Steve Bogan is out of the hospital and recovering at home after having abdominal pains last week. Wish the big guy well next time you see him.

- Diamond Ranch: They need to find another player in the receiving core to complement Sermons. We heard consistently last year that Sermons wanted to play defensive back more than wide receiver. So finding a solid WR is a must this summer.

-- West Covina" Spartans will miss offensive coordinator Brian Murphy as he moves from WC to Don Lugo this summer. You could tell watching film from the second part of the season last year that the underclassmen were getting a handle of the Wing-T offense. The challenge for the new OC is going to be finding a way to get the ball in the hands of home run hitting running back Ricky Johnson.

Southwest Division -- I like the composition of the new CIF Southwest Division. It's going to force some of the teams on the west side of the SGV to play quality football against the teams on the east side. No one should fall asleep if they happen to get Arcadia in the second round or the semifinals. HC Jon Dimanlante is truly one of the good guys in the business and always has his players ready to go every Friday night. Linebacker Volper (who is a verbal commit to UCLA) is a stud!

Not great football?-- It can safely be said that you don't have to play great football to win the Mid-Valley Division. There could be several match-ups that could be interesting if the right pieces fall into place.

Chris Sailer speak -- Had a conversation with kicking guru Chris Sailer and he is very high on Los Altos kicker Jeremy Brown. He has made him a top-40 in the U.S. pick and could be ready for a offer is he has a tremendous performance at Sailer kicking Combine in Las Vegas this spring. In watching him on film, he has great technique and a strong leg.

Happy Gilmore -- What made Wilson's Tim Gilmore performance in the 200 meter dash last week at APU impressive (200m in 22.5 eletronically timed) was that he didn't use any starting blocks. If he uses the blocks, his times lowers to 22.2. Loved the way he defeated Monrovia's Johnson on the square in the 100. Great competitor. One thing that Gilmore needs to do is get more upper body strength. Looks like he hasn't been lifting in a while. But he is a top prospect in the area...no question about it.

Cheap Promo -- No football fan should miss the Nike Camp at USC on April 23rd. There will be quite a few players from the valley there and its just a great day to evaluate players. And you have to love the price for admission....IT'S FREE BABY!!!!

Dan,
Good to hear from you. Good luck this upcoming year for your Bulldogs. I hear you guys may be losing a couple coordinators. I'm sure Coach M will keep things strong.

As usual, we will have a very talented class. The new coach should bring a new energy and direction that will likely awaken us back into form. This knucklehead below doesn't understand the term sleeping giant. Oh well.

If I remember right you guy's should have a couple of good years coming up shouldn't you? The last time West Co. played you was in 06 and if I remember right your freshman team that year
looked impressive, they should be juniors now, do you know how they finished
that year?

of course I want challenge that. What is monrovia now like a division 12 school? you are a dreamer new york

New York said:

I hope we get Fil Lujan and Coach A stays put with you guys. Maybe our two teams will meet on the field (both head coaches having played for Fresno State)!

Raul said:

Well New York, for your sake you better hope you get Coach Arellanes, for our sake I hope he doesn't go. He definitely has to be the front runner for that job. The Vikings could make a run at a CIF title this year...if he stays!!!

New York said:

Yes, that's right. On a local level, aside from Bishop Amat. Do you want to challenge that. Wait and see if we get the right coach.

Arellanes is one of several candidates for the HC job at Monrovia. PSN reported that Monrovia might announce their choice for the position as early as this week.
Though the Wildcats lost a promising QB (to Amat) recently, the school has never lacked for talent. Last year they were bumped in the 2nd round by Paraclete, who then were edged by Bishop Diego. BD barely lost to Santa Clara in the championship final mudbowl.

Raul,

Monrovia football is absolutely a bigger platform than Northview football. The town recently past a bill to issue a huge muni-bond with part of the proceeds earmarked for a new football stadium, a new science building and other major renovations needed at the high school. Monrovia is essentially a sleeping giant in football(locally anyway). If Fil Lujan takes over as head coach, Monrovia football will consistently rank among the top public programs among the East AND West SGV.

Insider - are you saying Monrovia is getting a new field? You really think Monrovia is a step up from NV? They'll both be in the Mid-Valley division this year.

fred the nike football camp is on the 20th(next sunday), not the 23rd

Insider said:

Monrovia is a much bigger step up than Northview. Getting a new field and due to budget cuts, he might be losing coaches at Northview.

What? said:

I just heard a rumor/truth about the staff at Glendora and another steroid accusation. Fred have you heard anything about this or is this parents doing what they do best...gossip!

NV FOOTBALL MOM said:

I really hope that Arellanes is not leaving my son respects him as so do I. When I spoke with him about the budgets he didn't mention leaving. That would be really sad.

Raul,
I am positive that this is the situation. The media, neither TV, this paper that Fred works for or any other paper for that matter, is accuratley reporting the facts.

Sensationalism, like sex, sells the product. To find the truth, you have to look for it and not believe these politicians. They are liars by trade and you will NEVER, EVER get a straight answer from them. They serve only themselves NOT you and me.

Raul said:

Damn that sucks if Arellanes leaves Northview for that reason. He has done a good job there the past couple of years. What are they gonna do drop the program or hire someone else? Blue and Gold, you sure about this???

Bleeds Blue and Gold said:

As I have posted before, there will be NO teacher layoffs.

The politicians are crying wolf and scaring the public about budget shorfalls when in reality, they are STILL receiving the same amount of money they got for last year. The ONLY cut that will happen is that they will NOT receive their scheduled 5 or 7% increase that they normally get every year as "required" by the budget rules.

Don't be fooled by the politicains, the school administrators, or the media. It's just another ploy to get you to buy off on a tax hike. You have to ask yourself, with the cost of EVERYTHING, gas, groceries, etc... going thru the roof, can you REALLY afford to shell out more money out of your pocket and feed this black hole of government spending.

These administrators work just like the Wall Street CEOs. While the company is going to hell, they cut the jobs of the people ACTUALLY doing the work while they collect their million dollar salaries and benefits. Administrators are the same way, they threaten to cut teacher jobs while they keep all the fat in place that serves no purpose in the function of teaching the kids.

So next time you go to one of those school board meetings, tell them to get rid of waste, THEN see what's left over. You will never get an honest answer from these fools.

It has come to my attention, the Head Football Coach at Azusa High School has resigned.Coach you brought out the best in your players, making them believe what it took to be a AZTEC Football Player. Good luck to you in what ever you choose to do!

Coach Arellanes might be leaving because of the state budget cuts..

Alot of people losing their jobs because of the budget.

Government needs to cut the fat somewhere else

Budget Cuts said:

Raul

Word is that budget cuts are why he might be leaving!

Raul said:

Yeah Bravetown. Word on BP is 5th place in Valle Vista in 2008! haha. Just kidding...but not really.

Jeremy Brown is legit! He's primed to have a HUGE season in '08, especially since the Conqueror offense will probably struggle and stall on drives. I would expect Brown to have quite a few long field goals and touchback most if not all of his kickoffs. Good luck kid...hope you get a great offer somewhere.

Raul said:

Freddy, I hear Coach Arellanes from Northview applied for the head job at Monrovia. You hear anything and why would he want to leave the Vikings with so much coming back next year? Isn't this kind of like a lateral move??? Not really a step up.

West Covina Fan said:

"Spartans".... you know I love that "talk". The only way to make it sound better is to call them what they really are... TROJANS!!!!
