Baseball Rankings & Standings

Above: Glendora and Damien will battle two more times this week with Damien hosting Tuesday's encouter at 3:15 p.m., followed by Glendora hosting Damien on Thursday.
Tribune Rankings
1t. Bishop Amat (20-4)
Ten straight wins and have outscored its opponents 204-77. What's impressive is not the streak but how easy they're winning too. La Salle is a pretty-good team and got hammered 13-5 and 12-2, which came a week after the Lancers swept St. Paul, who was No. 2 in Division V behind the top-ranked Lancers. The question isn't if they will reach the championship, but who they will play.
1t. Northview (19-4)
After losing to San Dimas the Vikings have won five straight, including a huge come-from-behind win at San Dimas to claim their third straight Valle Vista League title. I had the Vikes at No. 2 last week, but think it's only fitting that they share No. 1 with Bishop Amat at the moment. Bishop Amat is hotter, but Northview has been the hottest all season. It's obviously debatable, but why separate them. If they both go on to win championships, they'll both finish in a tie in my eyes.
3. San Dimas (16-7)
It's had to believe this team lost four in a row in early March. But they've gone 12-3 since, which included back-to-back wins over Covina and a split with Northview. They will beat Ganesha twice to finish 18-7, and they're obviously a team with a great chance to make a playoff run when you think of Drossel, Ponzo and how well they hit the ball.
4. South Hills (18-4)
The San Antonio League champions want to finish strong against Nogales today, and I'll tell you this, If they go on and win the Division III title, then all that talk about their schedule will be moot. If the Huskies win everything, I'd have to seriously consider them as the area's top team. But that's still a huge if.
5. Bonita (16-6)
The Bearcats had won 12 straight, beat Charter Oak early in the week then had their win streak snapped in a costly 6-2 loss to the defending Div. IV champion Chargers on the road. Charter Oak is now in first by a game in the Miramonte, but the Chargers finish with Diamond Ranch, which won't be easy. Bonita will likely sweep Los Altos, so a Diamond Ranch win would give them a piece of the title, but to win it outright, DRanch has to sweep, and that's not going to happen. Big-picture wise, Bonita still deserves to be ranked ahead of Charter Oak.
6. Damien (15-8)
Remember when they started 1-3 in the Sierra, and their playoff potential started shrinking by the week. That's when we find out what a team is really made of, when its backs are to the wall. Give the Spartans credit, they're now second in the Sierra after a huge sweep over Chino, and have won five of six to give themselves not just a chance at making the playoffs, but a chance to win the league title with a sweep over Glendora.
7. Glendora (13-9)
Read what I wrote about Damien, because now it's Glendora's turn to show what it's made of with its back to the wall. This is the team that started off well in the Sierra, looked like solid a playoff pick more than a week ago then lost two straight and four of five to slip into a must-win situation against Damien this week.
8. Charter Oak (12-10)
I'm trying to figure out what this says about the Miramonte that the Chargers are 4-8 against everyone else, but 8-2 in league. I guess it says the Chargers had trouble being the defending champs early in the season. They didn't know how to play with a bullseye on their chest. But they've settled down and have a lot of pieces from last year's title team, so you have to think this was about finding its confidence, and finding that swagger again. Still don't think they're all the way back, but getting close.
9. Covina (14-8)
I've said this from day one and I'll say it again, the Colts will be a dangerous third-place team for a league champion in the playoffs. Whoever the Colts face, they won't have a No. 1 like Cal State Fullerton bound Tyler Pill. And they way the playoffs are structured, Pill could pitch them into the quarters if the Colts are swinging their bats.
10. Diamond Ranch (12-10-1)
Believe it or not if the Panthers sweep Charter Oak this week, they could finish second and drop the Chargers all the way to third. So much can still happen and with the Panthers on a modest five-game win streak, who knows how this will end up.

AZUSA WINS! AZUSA WINS! AZUSA!AZTECS!
This time I won't input the AZUSA & Basset score, you'll have to find out in the next few day's! I would like to say AZUSA has won the MONTVIEW LEAGUE!!! Duarte lost to La Puente 9-3. Thanks La Puente...
Good Job AZUSA you played hard all the way to the end of the season! Good luck in the CIF play-offs!
Ok all you haters. Lay off of Joe here. It was me who brought this up. You guy's are just looking for any reason to pounce on him, and you're true color's, are sadly showing up here.
Anyway, all I was saying was that, when you beat another team, you dont have to humiliate them. The argument that "what were we suppose to do anyway" is a weak one at best is'nt it ?
I mean, a team has alot of options. They can let the second or third stringers play out the rest of the game, or at the very least, they can ask to end the game before it gets to far out of hand by using the mercy rule that someone alluded to earlier.
BTW, did any of you people happen to see the sports page the other day when two girls softball teams were playing for the championship ?
This one girl hits a home run, but get's hurt trying to circle the bases. She is injured so badly that she can't come arround to home plate. By rule, her teamates can not help her, because if they do, she's out. And if she cant get to home plate, the home run dose'nt count. So, what do you suppose happened here ?
The OPPOSING TEAMS PLAYERS carried her arround the bases and helped her to reach home plate ! Never mind that they lost the game becasue of that. It showed true honor on the field.
After all, the game was really a moot point because, the girl had hit the home run.
But what it showed us here was what true sportsmanship is all about. These are high school kids, not million dollar atheletes.
That is what im all about, when I make an observation such as this. No excuses, just play the game without humiliating the other team, thats all.

basset and amat have one thing in common. BOTH ARE IN THE BARRIO! AMAT SUCKSSSSSSSSSSS
COME ON WHAT IS THIS!!!{NOTHING GOOD TO SAY}. Man have you ever heard the saying"IF you don't have nothing good to say, don't say it all".
I'm not going to bite on your comment, and lower myself to your level. Racist comments like the you wrote don't belong in this blog.
The Montview League can play baseball with any league and win. MR. Nothing! log into maxpreps.com and you'll see they have won different schools from other leagues.
Who cares about the Montview league. That league should be banned from CIF. Nobody in that league speaks English, only as a second language and like to eat churros and frijoles with lots of lard.
Joe Amat, my oh my, we are thin-skinned?? I WAS NOT even referring to the Azusa score when making my comment to Nieto...IF He reads, HE knows what it pertains to...but back to you - DO YOU GET PAID FOR EVERY NICE THING YOU SAY ABOUT AMAT, is that what all your responses are about? DUDE, you seriously need to chill especially with all your boring FACTS - go make good use of your time.

No blame and not passing judgement at all. Sometimes things happen - I wasn't there, so can't say.
BUT,
what a joke said, "Shame on you Nieto-ito" because it was thought to be an AMAT score.
Just interesting how quickly people jump on the Lancers perceived shortcomings. Simply pointing out the misunderstanding - no more - no less.
congrats to Amat and Northview both teams ranked in the times agian 15 & 16! well hopefully Northview gets there no.1 seed back after Patriots loss, my money is on both of our teams to win CIF.
Don't look now but Charter Oak just snapped a 12 game winning streak by Bonita and a 5 game streak by Diamond Ranch. They've got Garkow on the bump Thursday with 5 straight victories including 4 shutouts in that span. They have arguably the best catcher in the valley in Jake Bailey and they are hitting now!!! Watch out!!!
BIG JOE AMAT;
Don't blame the coach of AZUSA,for some unknown reason the coach from Basset and the umpires wanted the game to continue? Hey even the AZTEC FANS wanted the game to end early! What's AZUSA to do, if the pitchers from Basset walked so many batters, that I lost count. AZUSA plays Basset,at Basset.Hopefully if the score gets out of control the umpires, will call for the mercy rule.
BIG JOE, AZUSA can win the league today if Duarte loses to La Puente today. If Duarte wins today, they will share the title with AZUSA.
Hey isn't Basset High School located around the corner from Bishop Amat?lol...
what a joke,
Pay attention!!!
34-0 was the Azusa win over Bassett.
Now are you ready to rip on the Azusa coach as quickly as you were ready to pounce on Nieto?
Shame on you Nieto-ito
SGV...I agree. They clearly more than held their own whey they were in D1...
Maybe because bishop is d5 and faces no other good teams in the valley every other team faces eachother in cif

O.K., let's not even get started on the subject of what kids are playing where because we all know it happens everywhere. That is NOT why Northview is a great team. They are dedicated players, with dedicated coaches, who practice long hours to be prepared to compete and win. Just watch them. They never give up. I am NOT from Northview, just calling it like I see it.
34 to zero...wow, was that a real score ?
Winning a game is one thing, but to compleatly humiliate another team, is another story. Come on people !
The folks at Amat got on their team (justfiably I might add) for their big win against Bishop Montgomrey, but it was nothing like this.
Anyway, I was at the home game against St Monica today, and I made a few observations that I thought I would like to share with the Amat faithfull.
First off, it was nice to see the team honor the seniors and their parents before the game. I thought that was a very nice touch.
Second, I could'nt believe that it was Montsenior Carrol singing "take me out to the ball game." That was a bit of a suprise.
Lastly, Fox is a monster is'nt he ? That guy can really really swing a bat. He hit an inside the park home run to start the game.
After that hit, I think I was more suprised than the ump was during course of the game when the opposing team let him bat in another crucial situation.
It was funny because, the umpire looked at the dougout to see if the opposing coach was going to walk him intentially, and when he did'nt, I think he did a double take just to make sure he got it right.
In the end however, their coach must have made a good call on that one, cause they got him out. Oh well, you can't win em all I suppose.
amat keeps setting themselves up for this criticism... do any of us baseballers really know any of the kids, the stand-outs in their same league?? No - that is why their championship and their league standing means little or nothing to us.

amat will be upset in the playoffs
Besides Amat, the rest of the SGV teams will get beat eventually and not see a Championship round.
Hey Fred, Good call on the co-number 1 teams. That is the way it should be and appreciate that you acknowledge the FACTS. Just one thing, since Northview BEAT Amat, NV should be the first team listed -- RELAX DUDE I AM JUST KIDDING!!!!!! lmao
This is a top ten ranking. Nothing personal against the Montview, I just don't think any of their teams should be ranked higher than anyone on this list. When Charter Oak is 8 and Covina's 9, that's a pretty tough list to crack.
Fred, can you mention anything about the Montview league, after all you had mentioned it was the "heart of the VALLEY". Your missing the big story! and let me fill you in. AZUSA won Basset 34-0 yesterday, and Duarte lost to La Puente 10-9,in the ninth inning. This put AZUSA and Duarte tied for first place. AZUSA plays Basset for the last game of the season this Wednesday, and Duarte plays La Puente again. If Duarte loses to La Puente AZUSA wins the league!
LETS GO AZUSA!
